Dell Studio 1537 freezing up/Stuttering Randomly

Q: Dell Studio 1537 freezing up/Stuttering Randomly

Help guys..I don't know what the problem could be. I'd be doing something on my computer when all of a sudden, everything freezes and if I'm playing music, it's non stop stuttering until I turn it off manually. I just recently finished troubleshooting the laptop shutting off by cleaning the fan and removing the dust thus preventing the overheating which was shutting it off. But a few days after successfully dealing with that, this problem shows up. HELP ME FIGURE THIS OUT!

I'll post a Hijack This Log

Delete any existing version of ComboFix you have sitting on your desktop
Please read and follow all these instructions very carefully
Download ComboFix from Here or Hereto your Desktop.
As you download it rename it to ironmogul123.exe
**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop and run from the desktop and not any other folder on your computer**
1. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus and anti-malware real-time protection and any script blocking components of them or your firewall before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results" or stop combofix running at all
Click on THIS LINK to see instructions on how to temporarily disable many security programs while running combofix. The list does not cover every program. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
Remember to re enable the protection again after combofix has finished
2. Close any open browsers and any other programs you might have running
Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts. If you are using windows XP It might display a pop up saying that "Recovery console is not installed, do you want to install?"
Please select yes & let it download the files it needs to do this
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" for further review
****Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall or freeze ****

Note: ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making it the default browser.
Note: Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CDs, floppies and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you -- please tell us when you reply. Read HERE why we disable autoruns

Please do not install any new programs or update anything (always allow your antivirus/antispyware to update) unless told to do so while we are fixing your problem. If combofix alerts to a new version and offers to update, please let it. It is essential we always use the latest version.

Please tell us if it has cured the problems or if there are any outstanding issues

Alright so i have a Dell Studio 1537 with Windows Vista Home Premium on it. I was playing on it the other day and now whenever i boot my computer, it will not get past the login screen. When i boot the computer in safe mode, it takes an usually long time to boot but boots without much hassle. Sometimes safe mode booting is quick, others it takes 5 + minutes. Right now i am trying a selective startup and my computer has been "Shutting Down" for over 15 minutes (i'm trying to be patient rofl)
Any suggestions?
*UPDATE* After getting fed up with the 20 minutes shut down time, I did a hard shut down and just held the power button. After booting back up, my computer couldn't locate my battery?

I'm sure you all have had this question asked dozens of times, so please excuse me. I bought a Dell Studio 1537 a little over a year ago. It has worked great up until two day ago. After getting home from work two nights ago, my computer would not turn on. Noo lights flashed, no startup noises, nothing. After monkeying around with the battery and the power adapter I finally got it going like an hour later. Once I turned it on the battery had nearly full life, that wasn't my problem. Same thing then happened last night. This time no amount of messing with the battery helped and I ended up removing and replacing my memory card. After which it booted right up. Tonight, once again nothing happened and this time neither of the previous procedures worked. So this time I ended up pulling the hard drive and plugging it back in and the laptop booted right up. Any clue what the problem might be? Once I get the stupid thing running I have no problems. However, it's not starting up when I get home at night. Thanks!

Hi I have an issue with my laptop display not turning on but it works fine with an external connection.
I am running windows 10 pro with no problems and up till a week ago I only had screen flickering issues due to the LCD cable. Now that the cable has been replaced it still wont work but when I do a BIST i get all the colours display but nothing else. I suspect a driver issue but I updated all my drivers and still nothing.
Any Ideas.

I am having issues with my dell laptopas it wont start up at all. I click the on button and all the media lights will all flash and the cd drive will make a sound but after that it will go off again. The screen will remain black at all times.

Can someone advise me on what the issue can be?

I know there have been issues with the dell laptops and they can be fixed with the battery taken out however that dosent seem to work in this case.
I've also taken out the hard drive and put it back in but I still have the issue.

Many Thanks

I have a 4 year-old Dell Studio 1537 laptop that I have babied and taken good care of. As soon as warranty ran out, I split it open, cleaned it out and tightened hinges etc. All of the internals are still running fine (HDD, motherboard, Wifi, webcam, etc.), however, in the last few months, the LCD has taken on an unfortunate attribute.

It has magenta/reddish lines going horizontally across the screen that can be manipulated by tapping on the sides of the display. Because of this observation, I'm quite sure it's not a software issue. I just took it all apart today and thought it might be the ribbon cable on the back of the LCD that has to be touching the conductive metal at the bottom of the back of the display. I tried to secure with some creative taping as its adhesiveness has worn away. I checked the ribbon cable's connections and found those all secure.

Again, everything is displaying fine on the display, it just has the magenta lines covering the screen. From the looks of it, it is not an inverter issue.

Here is a video of the brute:

Any ideas?

A:Dell Studio 1537 LCD Screen Dying

I cant imagine any software causing that.It could be that the screen itself has had it or a bad video or graphics card. The best thing would be to take it somewhere and find out exactly what the problem is and go from there.

I have had this laptop for about four years and the last time I tried to switch it on I could hear it booting up but the screen remained black.

I have tried connecting it to an external monitor and the image is scratchy with lines going down the screen. I can however run it in safe mode using the external monitor and the picture is fine.

Is this likely to be a graphics card issue? Any idea if it's possible to replace it and what the cost would be? Trying to figure out if I'd be better off purchasing a new laptop.

A:Dell Studio 1537 Black Screen

It could be either the graphics or video card or a problem with the screen itself.First take it somewhere and find out for sure and go from there before you buy another laptop. It might be an easily fixable problem that might not be to expensive to fix.

Hello. I have a Dell Studio 1537 which doesn’t display any video output; the screen is completely black.
I ran the D + Power test and the screen displayed different colors and then the laptop tried to boot as always, but nothing changed. I also ran the F12 diagnostics and got the error:
Error Code 2000-0321 LCD EDID - Unable to access EDID EEPROM.
I thought that it could be that the LCD cable to the motherboard was cut because the screen hinge is broken and somehow it’s been touching the cable for a long time. It seems that the cable is slightly damaged but not enough. But what worries me the most is that I connected the laptop to an external screen through a VGA cable and I had screen issues in the external monitor, some stripes and soon I got a blue screen. However, if I enter Windows Safe Mode I don’t have any problem.
I reseated the LCD cable and nothing changed. Should I buy a new cable or as it seems I have a GPU problem? If that’s the case, does it have any solution?
Thank you!

Greetings... Driver help needed...

**[Base System Device]** x2 Not located found for Win7 fresh install under Device Manager.

Struggling with my ONLY Win7 upgrade (fresh install on a previous Dell Vista OS) to date. Being this Dell Studo 1537 laptop is my 'newest' computer, Win7 32/64bit doesn't seem to like this one. Win7 64 bit didn't stay stable after only one day with a fresh install from a cleaned/wiped drive.

Had to reinstall to Win7; this time the 32 bit, but still have 2 devices not loading properly under 'Other devices'. States, 'Base System Device' with an exclamation mark.

I have read other thread's on the possibility of audio drivers being doubled; and to disable one...but this isn't the issue. Win7 correctly loaded the appropriate driver and I have not loaded the bloated IDT driver that cuts the sound down.

Basically I have gone through the 'list' on Dell's website and can't seem to locate anything in particular that would satisfy these driver requirements. Any help would be 'greatly' appreciated.

Lastly, this system has been flawlessly stable under Vista; just slow as heck - under Vista's bloat-code. I finally started to procure memory leaks that would drain the battery in hibernate mode in as little as 4 hours; gotta love Vista... So, on to Win7. Unfortunately, Win7 64 bit would freeze/BSOD, you name it... Win7 upgrades on my other two machines have been met with less issue; and they were with older hardware!

Any direction or idea that anyon... Read more

I just upgraded an older Dell Studio 1537 to 8.1 64 bit. Was running 8.0 64 bit OK.
Did clean install of OS.
Now the display seems to be stuck at a lower resolution, and can not be changed, its greyed out.
It says 1024 x 768, but it doesn't look the same.
Device manager shows one item not loaded due to missing driver: base system device
PCI bus 9 device 1 function 3 NTPNP_PC10026

In system information it says PCI\ven_1180&DEV_0592&SUBSYS_029F1028&REV_12\4&31FC8C23&0&0BF0
Microsoft basic display adapter

I have tried loading several different video drivers, but to no effect.
I am not even certain of the exact video chipset, I believe it is ATI ATOMBIOS and/or A series APU
It looks like it could be a 4500MHD or 4570 but I'm not sure how to be tell.
I also upgraded to the latest bios A11.

I am not sure that the problem device in the device manager is the same as the video problem, I read somewhere that the device manager problem could be related to the Ricoh card reader.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, display really looks crappy/low res.

I usually download and then extract ( just Cancel Install) or use WinRAR to extract the exe contents..

Then go into device manager and point to the extracted driver folder(s)

Windows will search for usable drivers - then if needed windows update will update those drivers

Hi Guys

I've recently decided to upgrade my girlfriends dell studio 1537 from Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 professional and since then i've encountered countless BSOD. Funny thing is it's always at random but and only when surfing the net using Chrome?

I have uploaded my SF diagnositc file for your interest and any suggestions would be much appreciated. Please ask me any questions, if felt appropriate and i will do my best to provide you with all the information you need. Worse case scenario i will have to roll back to Vista, however if this can be avoided that would be great.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

My dad's Dell Studio 1537 laptop hanged during a bios update, so the bios chip is fried. I want to desolder the chip and replace it with a preprogrammed new bios chip, but I'm not able to indentify or locate which EEPROM is the bios chip.

Anyone with tips how to identify the right chip?

A:Dell Studio 1537 BIOS chip number or location

I got a reply from the website that sells the chips and they identified the right chip for me based on a picture I've send them. In case someone else has the some issue: it's the chip on the back of the mainboard next to the large chip with the label ITE.

The id of the chip is:
MX - 15G

Hey Guys,

I've had my Dell Studio 1558 Laptop (Windows 7) for around 2 years and 9 months. Iv'e been having a fair few problems with it ever since I bought it.

This time it's been playing up mostly when Iv'e been facebook gaming within the last few weeks (more often anyway). Where it will just decide to freeze and becomes un-responsive where pressing even Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't work. I'm forced to hold down the power button to force a shut-down and then start it up again. If my facebook game isn't open generally at the moment I don't tend to get problems.

Although prior to this over the last approx. month, my laptop was shutting down or restarting without warning. Sometimes it will still do this after freezing, it will just shut itself down and stay turned off until I power it back on or restart itself instead. Twice within the last week or so it wasn't able to start up properly and attempted to do a 'system restore' but failed. But after that it was able to start up again. A few times when it shut down and I had to press the power button a few times because it kept powering down instantly each time I pressed the button.

I've had to send it away twice already once for a dead Hard Disk Drive needing replacing and the other time for the fan/heat sink needing replacing. Both times before I had trouble with this laptop randomly shutting down or restarting (rarely freezing though). When my HDD failed my computer was unusable and wouldn't start at all, and when my fan/... Read more

A:Dell Studio 1558 Laptop Freezing and Randomly Shutting-Down or Re-Starting

Hello lilkimmy2468

How many other programs/browser tabs do you have open when you are playing these Facebook games? It seems possible that you are trying to get your laptop to do too much. From what I can see the Dell Studio 1558 laptop comes with 4GB of memory, which may sounds a lot, but once you are running a few programs and resource heavy programs (especially on the memory such as Facebook games), it can slow down your laptop, possibly creating the issues you have.

If you are only running your browser with one tab open, you may have a memory issue, so you may have to run a memory test/diagnostic, depending on your answer to the above.

I will say that it sounds like your laptop needs some general care and attention, when was the last time you run a disk defrag or disk cleanup? How do you normally use your laptop, does it sit on a flat side where air can circulate easy? We may need to run some extra repairs/checks to make sure everything is working correctly, the last thing you need is to do a system restore but then find that fails for some reason, disastrous.

Problems Concerning   Dell Studio

I have Dell Studio 1537 with Windows Vista
I noticed that sometimes my integrated webcam works well and sometimes not, now
not at all, sometimes it worked with the integrated Mic and sometimes worked
without it.
Do you know how to solve this issue?
Since the webcam has completely stopped cooperating, I have
reinstalled Dell Webcam Central, but it still says “Please plug-in a supported
webcam,” which is impossible since it is “integrated.” The webcam components
are not listed in the Device Manager, so there is no yellow exclamation point
saying there is a prob... Read more

A:Dell Studio 1537 Laptop(Vista) w/ Integrated Webcam Problems? Driver?

Your second problem mentioned maybe the cause of your webcam problems. If your Device Manager does not show a device with a problem (exclamation mark) under Imaging Devices or you have no such category at all, then your integrated webcam is not being detected as conected to the computer. The integrated webcam is in fact an internal USB device, so the sound of USB connecting or disconecting when you move the computer might be the source of all your problems. It is rare but the internal connection might be loose or the cable runing form the LCD top section to the bottom where the connection is on the mainboard damaged, causing your webcam not to appear.
Attempts to reinstall a driver will be useless if the device is not listed in Device Manager to start with. If  you get the device to appear on the Device Manager and have a driver issue, please attempt to download and install the original dirver from the link below. Windows Update will show an updated driver available for Creative Laptop Integrated Webcam if you check for updates manually in Vista, I recommend not to install this "updated" driver, it does not work properly.
Download original Creative Laptop Integrated Webcam from here:

I'll try to keep this brief.

I purchased my HP Probook 4530s off my friend last week. Naturally, I formatted it to give a fresh install of Windows. Since then I have been having this issue:

Laptop freezing up - YouTube

Watch the video above, as you can hear the video lags/stutters as well as the sound 'buzzing'. The mouse lags across the screen and for some reason the internet disconnects during this time. The only way to fix this is to restart the laptop, although is happens again.

I have re installed Windows 3 times now and every time I get the issue.

I notice it the most under the following circumstances:

-Awaken PC from sleep mode
-Run laptop on battery power

In saying that, it is completely random. I was just in a Skype call on battery power and it was fine. I hung up and then rang someone again and it started freezing/buzzing/stuttering. The internet disconnected and I had to restart the laptop for fix it.

What on earth is causing this? The laptop worked perfectly before I formatted it the first time.

HP Probook 4530s
i5 2430m 2.4GHz

Please and thank you for anyone who can offer any advice!

A:Laptop Freezing/Stuttering Randomly During Use

I believe I have narrowed it down to my network card.

I guess it would make sense why the internet disconnects when I get those issues, but why would it freeze up my system?

I ran the DPC latency checker, and sure enough after 5 minutes on battery, I got the issue. I disabled things in device manager 1 by 1 and found when I disable my "802.11n Wireless LAN Card" the issue INSTANTLY goes away. Re-enabling it brings the issue back again.

I've tried updating the card's drivers yet it doesn't change the driver version of the card.

A:Windows XP cannot install in Studio 1537 .

Hi fasi, Your software manual HERE does say that dell does not support XP on the 1537, so any drivers needed will have to be 3rd party. If your hard drives are SATA, then XP will need this driver HERE load it at the F6 prompt, and you will have to go into your BIOS to change to your hard drive from ACHI to ATA. HERE is an journal on how to install XP, and HERE is an journal on how to install your drivers and in what order.

The keyboard is bowed up in the middle, presumably as a result of the method used to secure it to the chassi.
This means that the keyboard centre section is higher that the two sides, and that the keyboard flexes downward when typing at the centre.
How do I fix this design or manufacturing fault?

A:Studio 1537 - keyboard flexes in use

Just purchased a Dell laptop (17") and the firsts thing I noticed is how miniature the keyboard was for the size of the actual computer. Lots of wasted space that makes no sense to me. The second thing I noticed was that it was bowed in the middle, causing a lot of bounce with those keys. Did you ever find a resolution, or just get used to it?

Dell Studio 1537 Laptop (c. 2009)
I'm trying to determine which replacement lid, hinges, and bezel I should order to fix up my old Studio before I sell it.  I know that I should be able to take it apart and read the stickers to find out which revision it is, but Dells repair staff swapped so many parts around during the process when I'd sent it in to them, I'm not sure which parts are original, or where I could look to determine which revision number I would need with the current configuration.  Any advise would be appreciated.  Please read on for further details...
The Problem
The Bezel fits the lid properly, but not around the screen.  It covers up the bottom edge and one side of the screen by about 1/8", while there's an exposed black area on the top edge and the opposite side.  Basically, it looks like the lcd panel is not aligned properly inside the lid, but I took the bezel off to fix it myself to find that the screen is mounded and aligned properly.  after doing some research i remember reading something about various revisions of the Studio 15 series using different parts, which aren't all compatible with each other, but I dont know if the lid is the cause of the problem, or having the wrong bezel for that lid... or if those parts match but the lcd panel is wrong for both.  so for the past however-many-years, I've lived with the off-center screen.

hi there. i am having some issues with my new studio 1537. this is my second studio. the first, a 1535 was replaced by the 1537. both studios have the same problems.
at 1535, the eject - light was on, the dvd-rw was trying to eject, without having a cd in for several times, until it came off and all media panel buttons working correct. some times, the eject -key remained on and no other key worked, or the mute key was on and the pc didn't start windows at all. motherboard and media panel was replaced, but the problem insisted. that' s why dell hellas delivered me a new 1537.
unfortunately, the same problem appeared in it. a technisian came in my place and found out that tha media panel cable wan not properly installed on motherboard. that seemed to be the problem, until next day, when the eject - light appeared again. i reinstalled vista, upgrading to ultimate and solved the problem for about 15 days, when suddenly after "waking up" from sleep mode, the eject - key light on again...
i believe that must be a software problem with media panel or a hardware motherboard problem.... i'm waitin for media panel driver or firmware fix.
any suggestions?
ps: an excuse for my english.
acgiannopo from greece

A:studio 1537 media panel problems

I am having the same problem with my Media Console as well.  The Up Volume stays light and it is causing boot problems and volume problems.  The Media Console issue affects the Studio 15 and Studio 17 line.  I am starting the RMA process to get a refund as I find this unacceptable.
For users of these models who would like to keep using their laptops I would suggest you by pass the Media Console by unplugging the cable from the motherboard.  The technical manual can be found via your favorite search engine and I suggest only experienced technicians do the work as you can damage the laptop if you are not careful.
Dell should address this common defect.  Who knows if this is a cable connector problem on the motherboard or a software problem.
It is a shame that Dell is shipping these defective units to their customers.  As an IT professional I have traditionally recommended Dell products.  I will not recommend the Studio line.

Hi there,
I bought the new Studio laptop DS1537K20C75RM a few days ago. Everithing seemed to be fine untill 3 days ago when I was working in the evening.
The screen is really bright! So I tryed to set the brightness to the lowes level. Suddenly I found that it flickers realy hard and it is easy to nitice!
It seems like the LED is flickering on a low brightness level. I was thinking that it shouldn't!
It is really hard to work in evening in such conditions!
Setting the brightness level to the maximum removes the flickering. I was trying to set the brightness down by the video card properties. It helps but in some reason these brightness settings do not affect the cursor! It just shines anyway! It seems like a workaround but I still hope to find a normal and official solution.
I really think that such a flickering affects my eyes. It is ugly!
Is it a general problem of all LED panels? Why does nobody say about that? I heard only the "great" and "exelent" words about LEDs and thats why I actually bought this model..
I'm open to hear your thoghts! And I hope to engage the technical guys here to explain what's going on with my laptop!

A:Studio 1537 LED screen flickering with low brightness level

Hello.I have the problem, but not only on lowest but on Low Bright LevelS at all.
Studio 1737
It is really not good, and It cause eye strain.
I think It is faulty LCD display, because I have another Studio. The difference is clear like day and night.
I put both Studio's side by side and I compare them, and It is really huge difference not only in flicking, but in the colours too.
Till colours is not problem or not warranty problem, this easy noticable flicking must be covered under warranty.

I have this issue where sometimes when playing a game, whenever it's about to load a new audio asset, the game briefly freezes. Like for instance, I'm playing the Brutal Doom mod, and it will go fine for a little while but whenever I"m about to for example fire a new weapon, it will freeze itself for a second to seemingly load the new audio file for the gun being shot. There are other games that do this as well. Also, sometimes when watching a video on YouTube, I get audio stutter for a few seconds.

I've done scans with Avast!, Malware Bytes, and Spybot and so far nothing conclusive has come up. I ran the Intel Driver Update program and updated several drivers, but that hasn't fixed it. I also tried disabling Andrea ST but that didn't fix it neither. I've had this laptop for several years now, and it never did this until recently.

Hi Everyone!
I'm not sure if this topic has been covered before, I tried doing a search and couldn't find anything on it so that's why I started my own thread. I recently just purchased a Dell Studio XPS 13 laptop and just got it a little over a week ago. From the first day I got it, it froze up on me while installing firefox. I didn't think much of it so I just powered down by pressing the power button. Then a few days after that while trying to install the lojack for the computer it froze up again. I powered down and then before it even loaded completely on start up it froze again so again i powerd down. This happened 6 times over and over again and there were times when trying to boot back up the screen would just stay black and not load up at all. I finally talked to a dell tech support guy and he had me restore my laptop to factory. It didn't freeze up again after that for a couple days and then it started to do it again. Has anyone else have this problem with this particular laptop? Any suggestions on what it is or what I can do? Or do you guys think I have a defective laptop and should just exchange for another one? Help!

A:Help! My new Dell Studio XPS 13 Laptop keeps on freezing up!

Hi BeyondxFlatline
I'm currently experiencing the exact same thing on my Dell Studio XPS 13 laptop, and seeing the exact same scenarios as you describe. It seems the system locks up quiet randomly. Usually lockups like this happens when you run ressource demanding games, but this doesn't seem to be the case. I have been running hwmonitor (http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php) to check if i could see any heat related symptons and eventhough this laptop seems to have higher temperatures than usual, they don't seem critical to me. I have experinced my laptop freeze when; when the system has been idle and i have returned and moved my external mouse, other seemingly random moments and even when running dell diagnostics . I have also experienced that my system won't bootup after it has froze and that i needed to wait a little while before i could boot it again. I haven't talked to tech support yet, but it seems it might soon be a good idea.

I am currently trying to fix a Dell XPS Studio 1530. It is around 1 year old, but showing signs of problems. It is freezing often, where you can't do anything. Ctr/Alt/Del does not help and eventually you have to press the start button to shut it down. I started doing a malwarebytes and Super Anti spyware scan, but it stops after about 5 min of scanning and doesn't restart. I am not able to boot into safe mode with networking. It wouldn't allow a Degrag to complete either. I was finally able to boot into just safe mode and am currently running some scans. I am unsure if it is a virus or something else going on with the laptop. I tried to do a disk check, but once the computer restarts it says disk check is complete after reboots, without looking like it completed the disk check. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

About a week ago, my computer started freezing up. It won't unfreeze and task manager won't work and I can't soft restart it. I have to press and hold the power button to reboot. Then it works okay for maybe 2 to 4 hours, then locks up again. And then I have to do the same thing.
I've run malwarebytes, it found a couple registry bugs, got rid of those. Rebooted, ran malwarebytes again, nothing found. Did a MS security essentials full scan and nothing was found.
Is there any hope of fixing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't recommend a full fix to this, but I also run malware bytes. It doesn't get rid of all your registry errors. Try downloading Hitman Pro and use the free 30 day trial, it gets rid of all cookies as well as many many more registry errors that malwarebytes overlooks. Good luck!

Hi guys,
This is my first post here, so I'm not sure whether anyone else has reported on this issue.
Whenever I'm browsing the internet (whether it be on chrome, firefox, opera or microsoft edge), the screen freezes randomly. The sound (if there is sound) either also distorts, or sometimes actually plays back normally. All other applications (paintshop pro, illustrator, spotify) work without hiccups.
I've tried plugging in my laptop and switching power management options (dell/high performance etc.)
I love this laptop but this issue is bugging me out.
My specs are as follows:
512GB SSD, i7-7700HQ, 16GB RAM, 1080p screen, 90Wh battery
As well as that, Windows keeps telling me that my product needs to be reactivated.. This is weird since my laptop is just under one month old.
Thanks in advance!

I'm on a Dell 1537 Laptop which is less than 6 months old, and it's running on Vista. It has the standard sound and video card that came with it.

A week ago, I attached the computer to my new Television which is an insignia with the video cord. As soon as the video cord was removed the blue screen of death appeared with an OxOOOOOO7E error message.

Since then, the error and crash dump have become fairly reliable whenever anything inserted into the computer (USB, video, HDMI) except for the power cord is removed from it.

I have removed all recent files and programs as well as examined my drivers because that was a suggested thing to do on other forum posts.

The same crash dump has recently reared its ugly head without anything being unplugged from the computer, and this usually happens when on the internet and with multiple programs running.

I have attempted a full scan using both McAfee and MalwareByte, but they usually don't go all the way through because the computer crash dumps during the process. I did manage a quick scan on MalwareByte with no problems and it did not solve anything.

I hope you can help! Thanks a lot,

Once it freezes I have to manually shut it down with the power button and then it is fine for another 5 hours.

The only other software which I encounter this is ezvid video editor.

I'm guessing it's something on the software/system side, given how my hardware is relatively lag-proof. My games also don't suffer from this stuttering issue, so it can't be the generic 'game stuttering' fix going around the net.

I had an issue in the past where I installed a 32-bit version of a program and it messed everything up. You can take a look at this thread for more information.

Mouse/Keyboard/USB don't work anymore after turning off computer

I had to do a repair install in order for my computer to run properly again. However, 3/4 months after the repair install, my computer is acting strange. It constantly stutters/freezes every 5-10 seconds or so. When I browse the internet, it freezes for about 5 seconds before it resumes; when I open up anything, it freezes before it starts; when I play a game, it lags/freezes randomly for a good 3-5 seconds.

I have no idea what happened or if this has anything to do with the "repair install". I assume it does and I am asking you guys if anything can be done to fix this issue before a complete format of my system.

If this began 3 or 4 months after the repair install, it is probably not related to it.

I think you should check for malware.
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and save it to a convenient location.
Right click on mbam-setup.exe and select Run as administrator
Before clicking the Finish button, make sure that these 2 boxes are checked (ticked):Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware will now check for updates. If your firewall prompts, please allow it. If you can't update it, select the Update tab. Under Update Mirror, select one of the websites and click on Check for Updates.
Select the Scanner tab. Click on Perform quick scan, then click on Scan.
Leave the default options as it is and click on Start Scan.
When done, you will be prompted. Click OK, then click on Show Results.
Check (tick) all items except items in the C:\System Volume Information folder and click on Remove Selected.
After it has removed the items, Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply. You can also find the log in the Logs tab. The bottom most log is the latest.

Note: You can use either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox for this scan. You will however need to disable your current installed Anti-Virus, how to do so can be read here.

PC is still under warrenty until 8th Jan but issue been around for years - PC used to be a windows 98 - they did an upgrade - could they have missed something?

They think they've done enough - I need a working pc!

Any help welcome

Let's see if you have any nasties hiding there first.....

Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. Open up the result.txt file created. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

Hi, all.

I've recently put together a new multimedia computer which I've hooked up to a 32'' LCD 1080i TV.

The machine has up until now, played DVDs fine, but when I tried playing my first HD DVD the other day, I noticed a slight 'stutter' every five seconds or so, during playback.

I tried changing some of the ATI Catalyst settings, but nothing worked, so I turned to downloading the newest ATI drivers I could find on their official website.

After I'd installed them and restarted, an error message appeared saying that the 'new' drivers I'd just installed (even though I'd double-checked) were in fact, 'old' drivers, and that Catalyst would now not work under them.

I tried rolling back the drivers, but that didn't help - if anything, it made things worse - I lost all sound, and eventually picture whilst running XP - so as a last resort, I tried reinstalling Windows.

This has pretty much restored everything to how it was before (and also HD DVD playback in PowerDVD Ultra) but now I can only play a film/disc for so long (about 10-20 mins) until the image freezes and/or goes into an infinite stuttering loop (video, that is - the sound keeps running).
I'd be eternally grateful if anyone could help me with this.

Thanks in advance,
PS - I've also recently installed WMP11, assuming I could play blu-ray and HD DVD discs with that, but it doesn't seem to recognise HD DVD's at all.... Read more

I would really appreciate it if you could help me sort the issues of it which are it being slow, and seeming to stutter / pause and jump forward. in games, sometimes in the browser and in YouTube videos. Its also extreemely noisy when Im playing games, im not sure if this has anything to do with it or not.

All i wish for, is the computer to let me play games such as World of warcraft without any issues, and use things such as facebook.

Okay, so I've tried working on this for a while now and nothing seems to really be helping.First here's my specs: http://i.imgur.com/4Xl5Dph.pngThis usually only happens while I'm using Chrome but it happens at random times while I'm using it. Suddenly my internet will like come to a halt, no new pages will load at all. It will just show the circle that is supposed to represent loading but it will never get anywhere, then it's like my computer just locks up...except it doesn't? All of my applications, like chrome or windows explorer just kinda freeze but I can still move my mouse and sometimes open my start menu. If I can open my start menu and click a bunch on something, let's say "My Computer" once it unfreezes it will open them all at once and load all of my internet tabs and everything. When this first happened I thought it was my SSD just taking a bleep, which it could still be, so I looked up some fixes and I found something that is supposed to stop your SSD from stuttering/freezing ( Link to tutorial HERE it may just be for laptops or not compatible for me but I gave it a shot anyway) and it seemed to work at first but now it's gone back to it's old ways and now I'm starting to notice the second issue even more, which I will explain now.The second issue happens occasionally but especially when I am trying to do something off of my SSD, like run some programs I have on it or something. What happens is my computer just kinda starts to lag and I hear an audio scr... Read more
