I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It depends on what version of Windows you are using.. Language packs can only be used on Windows Ultimate, or Windows Enterprise versions....

Hi all,

I have searched all over the net for a solution and can't find one. First, a description of the problem:
The Language Bar is showing up fine. I can use Chinese and alternative English keyboard layouts without any problems. However, I can't use Japanese at all. It is not even shown as an option when I click the button to change languages. Furthermore, keyboard shortcuts don't work.

I got it to show the Japanese option when I "restored" the Language Bar, right clicked it, and turned it vertical, but after turning it back to horizontal, the option disappeared. Desperate to get it back, I turned it back to vertical. It's no longer there either way!

I heard that a Windows Vista Update removed some guy's Japanese language support completely. He fixed it with System Restore. But I'm using Windows XP Pro and there's so many updates I don't know when to restore to and I don't want to restore.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Greetings,

An IT staff at a company where I have been working seems to be unable (or lazy enough) to install an English Language Pack on a French Version (a base installation) of Windows 7 Enterprise via Windows Updates.

When launching the update with English Language Pack selected all seems to work well til a certain moment of an installation.
The process is stopped with an error message and the update is not applied.

I cannot believe that the IT technician keeps assuring me that the operation is impossible to achieve.

I would appreciate any suggestion or advice leading me to manage to get the English Language Pack installed.

Thank you in advance.

I just received delivery of a mini camera/voice recorder that has an instruction sheet in both Chinese characters and also broken English...very broken! In fact, it's basically incomprehensible. Is there anyone viewing this that may be able to help me translate the instructions, because I can't get the recorder to work yet. The colors of the light indicators on the recorder and the instructions don't even match. All that I can observe is red and blue, while the instructions refer to a yellow and green in addition to red.....go figure. And yes, I've contacted the seller about this but they haven't responded yet. I strongly suspect they don't have a clue either...they're just merchandisers, not tech folks.

I've attached a copy of of the so-called English instructions, but if you can read Chinese please contact me and I'll send you or post the instructions written in Chinese characters.

Thanks for your interest.

Working with Xp Pro system, pre-installed on a PCG-Z1WAMP Vaio Laptop.

This problem popped up out of the blue.. whenever I try to type traditional chinese the keyboard either locks until I shift+ctrl switch to english, or the application running freezes( e.g IE has encountered an error and must close).
Strange that only the chinese traditional character set is affected, ALL other languages work perfectly(As did traditional chinese until a few days ago..)

Tried System restore, removing/reinstalling IME, banging against wall, etc.

Thing about this preinstalled XP Pro is that I cant clean install the East Asian language files - the check box is faded and inaccessible.

Anyone have insight to the dilemna? Preferably without clean installing XP, it takes more attention than I can muster to recover these VAIOs...

Windows 7 language packs are available for computers that are running Windows 7 Ultimate or Windows 7 Enterprise
Windows 7 language packs are available for computers that are running Windows 7 Ultimate or Windows 7 Enterprise. The Windows 7 language packs can be installed only from the Optional Updates section in Windows Update. However, these language packs are not
available on the Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) server or through the Microsoft Download Center.

To download and install a Windows 7 language pack, follow these steps:

Start Microsoft Update. To do this, click Start

Collapse this imageExpand this image

, type Microsoft Update in the Start Search box, and then click
Microsoft Update in the Programs list. Click the optional update links for the language packs. Under the Windows 7 Language Packs category, select the desired language pack.

Note If you install many additional language packs, the disk space and system performance are affected. In particular, disk space and system performance are affected during servicing operations, such as Service Pack installations. Therefore,
we recommend that you only add a language pack to your computer if you will use the language pack.
Click OK, and then click Install updates to start the download and installation process.

Failing to repair my old Dell, I bought a Lenova laptop with XP Professional here in China. A:Switch Windows XP language from French to English

Hey,

The problem is that there is no ?switch? to change the language. You can change the keyboard layout but not the language of Windwos itself. In such cases you have to make a new and clean installation of Windows using installation disk.

I don?t know what notebook you have exactly but all drivers and tools for your Toshiba notebook you can find on Toshiba homepage.

By the way: If you install XP, I would recommend Service Pack 3. It contains important security updates.

There's no mystery. You are not supposed to use "direct download" links for language packs that are only delivered (automatically) if you either use a multi-language edition of Windows (Ultimate, Enterprise) or a server edition (2008 R2). The "DISM" command
can be used to deploy single-language editions of Windows from a multilingual Windows Image, like stated in your link, but it's purpose isn't to change the UI language of a bought, single-language Windows SKU."192 GB ought to be enough for anybody." (from the miniseries "Next Generation's Jokes")

Hello,
I'm attempting to evaluate SCCM, and have created an evaluation environment in Vmware.
I want to create a windows 7 Pro based virtual machine as that company will not be moving to windows 10 for 3 or so years, as it's update process looks too risky and fault-prone.
I have 2 unused boxed retail versions of windows 7 Pro and ultimate.
While I have these DVDs, I'm looking to get the iso version for a virtual install.
But after going to http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7
and verifying the code, the mandatory Product Language dropdown lists 25 languages from Arabic to Ukrainian, but not english (No British English, No US english nor any other).
Is this an error on Microsoft's website or a deliberate act. Is it acceptable to create an ISO for this purpose from the retail media? (Used to be able to do these evaluations without hassle using my old Technet subscription, without this petty time-consuming,
goodwill burning behaviour from Microsoft.)
Edit:
No English, Spanish, French, German. Doubt that's accidental.

Hi all, I thought I'd share this with the community, as I myself had been looking for an answer for quite a time.

Scenario: English ex-pat living in Spain. Bought new laptop (Toshiba Satellite L500-20Z) with OEM Windows 7 Home Premium in Spanish. Want Windows 100% in English.

I'd been trawling through the threads, and had found these:
Completely change language of Ultimate installation? & win 7 language change

Googling also revealed I could only change the language if I had an Ultimate or Enterprise licence.

I had thought of downloading a legitimate English version Home Premium ISO from Digital River, but a format and clean install was a last resort - even though there's plenty of OEM bloat, I didn't want to risk some things not working or have problems trying to activate later. So I made a C: drive image, just in case.

Solution: Download MS English language Pack (don't forget to check the MD5 hash), download Vistalizator. The language pack won't install by itself - probably because the OS isn't Ultimate or Enterprise, but launch vistalizator (it doesn't install, just runs) and open the language pack from there.

The only thing is, I wanted my main account in English and a secondary user account in Spanish, but that isn't possible. I CAN still change back and forth between languages, but I have to do it through Vistalizator and reboot… The language settings in the control panel don't do anything, and the vistalizator language switch is a global change - ... On the last night of Win 8 Pro being available at $40, I got a question about changing the operating system language of a computer fitted with Chinese Win 8 PRC to English. Unfortunately I had done my own last-minute purchase and download of Win 8 (in English), here in China, and had gone to bed. I'm so sorry about this because I got a lot of help at this forum, on the same night.

My computers were bought mostly outside of China. The reason was that it's quite difficult to turn Win 7 PRC or Win 8 PRC pre-installed on a locally bought PC to English. In China, most new PC's are sold with the basic version (not the Professional or Ultimate versions) of Windows pre-installed. This means you have a big problem. You can't change the O/S language to English. Windows 8 PRC can be superficially set to English. But Chinese will pop up at every corner when using the machine. The "core" O/S language remains Chinese.

"English-speaking" PC's with Windows as O/S cost about 20% less in Hong Kong than in the PRC, for the same computer model. A second-class overnight return train ticket between Shanghai and Hong Kong costs around $200. An English Windows DVD in a box might cost you around $500 in China. Through shops in the Computer "Markets" (Plaza's, Bazaars) you can buy a genuine English Win 7 OEM version for around $150-$200.

The best thing is to travel to Hong Kong to buy your new computer, or -- for much the same money -- get someone to install a Win 7 o... Read more

Yes - you can switch between languages. For example, you can install an English version of XP along with Chinese language support files (if you wish) and vice-versa. However, when talking system menus/dialogs, the language displayed will depend on the version of XP. Eg. - Chinese version of XP, menus display in Chinese; the reverse is also true.
