Plugin container.exe - application error

Q: Plugin container.exe - application error

I get this message occur quite frequently when I close Firefox.-

Plugin container.exe - application error

What is causing this and how can I prevent this from happening ?

Preferred Solution: Plugin container.exe - application error

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm running Lenovo 32-bit on Win XP and for awhile keep getting freezing and script issues with message
"plugin-container.exe has encountered a problem needs to close....etc..."

I read that the Adobe Shockwave Flash( in Firefox(my browser) needs updating, then i read that in fact in you need to go into Mozilla Firefox ADD ON's and you should uncheck the box that shows
"Enabled Adobe Flash Protected".Basically disabling it.
So it can't be both options can it? So who is right on this and what should i do.
Or are there other reasons i am getting plug-incontainer exe issues?

The version was updated over 6 monfhs ago -Anyway see this >> To disable, see here >> http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=9530495#p9530495 I would suggest you type about:config in the addressbar (note, that there are no spaces in that) and search for ipc in the seachbox at the top of the about:config page.No mention of >> type in "dom.ipc" Link edited -

I've got FF v.3.6.20 and with one tab open and the recent "plugin-container" running after a little flash player action, task manager says, between the two
they take approx. 80,000 K of RAM

Chrome v.13.0.782.112 m with one tab open is sucking up approx. 180,000 K of RAM. task mngr. also shows 5 processes named "chrome.exe"

after reading that, Chrome still loads as fast or faster than FF.

I'm not all up on what my browsers do with RAM and how/if that effects page-loading

Can someone please explain this to me?

A:FF3 + plugin-container vs Chrome

With tabbed web browsers it's normal to have several instances of the browser running in processes. There's one for each open tab, but that does not in any way effect page-loading times. Google Chrome uses a different browser engine, and that's what makes the difference.

Firefox 3 is in any case well out of date now by several versions. The latest is v6.0 so you should consider updating it to enjoy the extra security and new features -- it's faster too.

If you upgraded your FF you may/may not have problems with it's plugin-container.exe. It apparently causes crashes/lock ups of FF on some systems, slowdowns on others.

I saw some reports associated with this file, which takes up (in some instances) an inordinate amount of RAM, thus causing the browser to lock up.

Some AV/Malware programs are registering it as Malware.

On a personal note, it really does bug me that the file REQUIRES internet access (*and there is no option to bypass or disable it). If you don't allow it, some sites that require flash just won't load.

Aside from that, no problems with the new browser.

For release notes:

How else do you expect it to get content that resides online then? To put it into perspective, when Firefox encounters a plugin required container (object, embed) in the HTML it diverts those off to plugin-container.exe to handle and download the necessary resources it supports. So of course it needs access to the internet. It would be no different denying Firefox internet access.

Recently when I use Firefox to surf on the Internet, I always have like 5-6 tabs opened. After 5-10 minutes, the browser is running very slowly and sometimes at the top bar it says (Not Responding). It is like a performance drop, changing tabs is slow, scrolling down a page is slow. I check the Task Manager it uses like 1907.23 MB of Memory and it shows 99% of Memory used.

I always have to end the Firefox process and open it again and restore my last session. It always use 150-180 MB of Memory at the first minute. But the longer I keep Firefox open, even on Minimize, my computer slows down and again it use 99% of Memory so I have to end process again. This happens over and over again. And when I check my Crash Dumps folder, I saw a lot of plugin-container dump files.

So how do I solve this issue? It's not a big deal though but I want a solution.

EDIT: Firefox is my preferred browser, I don't really like Chrome and not to mention Internet Explorer.

A:Firefox plugin-container

First, make sure you have the latest version of Firefox ie. 38.01
Next, right click on the Title, and select Menu Bar. From the Menu, click on Help->Restart With Add-Ons disabled to see if you experience the same problem.

If the problem is gone then go to Tools->Menu->Add-ons and disable all the add-ons then re-enable one by one until you experience the same problem then you might have a bad add-on.

If the the problem still persist. Tools->Options and create a SYNC account and sign-in. This will save all your Bookmarks, Add-ons etc...
then uninstall Firefox completely.

Next, download and install Firefox again then sign in to SYNC to get back all bookmarks, add-ons etc...

i have finally found a real resort to removing this damn virus out of my system, but it will take you a whole day.
first off
These are the things you need to google.
AdwCleaner : Cleans the registry of the infection
CCleaner: Removes the Cookies and programs (use trial version pro)
Kaspersky (Anti-Virus) removes the virus infecting the pc
Malware Bytes: "As Described program to cover more basis to remove it"
then finally Junk Removal Tool.
But follow each program in these steps.
"Anti-virus: use first a latest virus protection program (Not Nortons: Back door into windows)"
CCleaner: Clean all your windows background applications and cache
Malware Bytes
Junk Removal Tool.
i should say your computer will be clean of this peice of s### infection.
but the process will yet again, take all day.

So I'm using the latest version of Firefox and Flash player, and for some reason the plugin-container will lock up in certain situations.

If I play quake through quakelive.com and exit a match, at any time, the plugin locks up, have to open task manager and kill the process.

If I'm on youtube, foxnews, or any other place using flash for video, and navigate away from the site, or select a different video it locks up.

Now this only happens the first time I try to leave a page or exit a game. Once I kill the process and bring the page / game up it all runs perfectly fine no matter what video I click on, new page I go to, or play 10 - 20 games.

It happens no matter how much memory the plugin is using as well. it could be 15,000kb or 235,000kb.

Not really sure how to troubleshoot a problem like this, so any advice would be welcome.

hi...i know there's a way through firefox to disable the plugin container (plugin-container.exe in resources at the task manager) and keep it from gobbling up cpu resources, but i can't remember how to do it. i know you just type in something in the browser location bar and from there type in another short piece of text, and from there double-click a couple of items to take the plugin container out of contention for the cpu. does anyone here know what i need to type in at the browser location bar, and at the screen that firefox shows after that? i know what to double-click once i get there. thanks for all help.

A:[SOLVED] plugin container eating up cpu resources

Type about:config in the address bar and hit Enter.

Type dom.ipc.plugins.enabled in the Filter bar and you should see 4 entries appear as you're typing. Right-click each one of these entries and select Toggle to change their values from True to False, then restart Firefox.

(I've used this setting in Firefox 4 and 5... it works)

This has been a recurring problem with the 32-bit versions of Firefox that I've used in the past. I've now switched to the current 64-bit version (43.0) only to find that this problem is occurring.
I had been keeping the 32-bit version bug at bay using the user environment variable "MOZ_DISABLE_OOP_PLUGINS" but that no longer works for the 64-bit version. I've gone so far as to add "64" to the variable in several different ways but none of those worked.

Any suggestions on a fix or workaround for this?

Suggest: Clean install flash player.

Flash Player removal tool: https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player...r-windows.html

Make sure you follow all steps including step 3d

%appdata%\Adobe\Flash Player
%appdata%\Macromedia\Flash Player

Confirm deletion by attempting to navigate to the above folders once they have been deleted.

Important: Step 4.1
Restart your computer before fresh installing flash player.

Other stuff you can try:

Backup your profile (bookmarks and extensions)

MozBackup - Backup tool for Firefox and Thunderbird

Uninstall Firefox and delete leftovers:

Include these steps:

To remove other files and folders that may not be removed by the uninstall, you must manually delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations by default:
32-bit Windows: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
64-bit Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

Pess the Windows key +R to open a Run dialog, type in %APPDATA%\Mozilla\ and click OK to open the Mozilla folder, then delete the Firefox folder.
Reboot. Clean install Firefox then restore your bookmarks and extensions from the Mozbackup file that you saved.

Recently, I was given a laptop in which the OS environment is XP SP3. Since I started using the machine, there have been an untold number of problems that have occurred that seem to point to ntdll.dll {5.1.2600.5755 (xpsp_sp3_gdr.090206-1234)} and plugin-container.exe. To help you all understand the situation, I use Firefox, not IE.

It doesn't seem to matter whether or not I've installed addins to my browser. The problem is most prevalent whenever I run streaming audio which requires the Flash plugin.

After ~ 30 minutes (the length of time is never consistent) of listening to streaming audio, the browser either hangs, or crashes...sometimes, I have to end the firefox.exe process via Task Manager. Here's an example of the details logged in Event Viewer-->Application:

Go to Index page ? mozillaZine Forums ; on the right-side of the screen, in the search box for Boards, enter "plugin container crashes" (without the quotation marks) and read some of the threads, which may lead you to the solution.

My quick look at a few of those threads indicated that hardware acceleration may be the culprit; if you need help with that, do another search for that subject.

There was an amusing incident on mozillaZine recently concerning hardware acceleration: One person posted a vituperative message blaming the moderators for frequently suggesting turning off hardware acceleration on the grounds that doing that had never helped a single person.

The very next thread I read was from a person thanking the moderators: He had been told to try turning off hardware acceleration, he did so, and his problem was solved.

Via this program I installed many others, e.g. USB Disk Security, Windows 8 Manager, IObit Unlocker (I think this is the one that's problematic, with it came IObit toolbar and my browser's startup page was also changed), Vuze, AutoHide IP. What happened is that when I rebooted my system, I got the error message from the topic title. I followed these instructions:
So I ran Autoruns, deleted the Conduit Background Container.dll, rebooted, ran ADW Cleaner and JRT. What I noticed was that I could not open Adobe any more. I uninstalled all the above programs, cleaned up temp files and everything with CCleaner, uninstalled Adobe and then installed it again but - nothing.
Then I tried to do a System Restore hopefully to anull all the previous mess I made, however, I had a restore point done right after I installed all the programs and decided to uninstall them - that's when Revo Uninstaller made a restore point I hate myself now.
So I restored it to that point and luckily, Adobe worked. Then again I removed the Dll message, rebooted, Adobe still worked. And after ADWCleaner also it worked if I recall correctly, but after I ran JRT it does not open! Is it maybe because of something deleted in the registry? Should I put th... Read more

AdwCleaner and JRT logs would be very helpful if you can locate them.
Let's see if you have a restore point to work from:
Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.
Checkmark the following checkboxes:

I created a page on MySpace.com . Lately when I go to mine or anyone's page on MySpace.com I get a popup error message saying:

" (X) Plugin error - The data the plugin requested did not download successfully"

I only receive this popup on that Web site, and after I click the "Ok" button nothing appears to be missing or different from what I can't tell. However, the message is annoying and I would like to understand what it's talking about and fix it. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

STOP: c oooo 145 {application error. The application failed to initialize properly (0x 0000005). Click OK to terminate application. The above message is what I receive, when I run "error check". It was advised from the Microsoft website that I ran ERROR CHECK, along with "disk cleanup" & "defrag" analysis, to see if the machine needs to be defragged.I went along with the advised procedures by Microsoft, because it was said that the computer would run faster. I've been doing the ones that worked, defrag analysis, disk clean up & CC Cleaner. Along with those maintenance tasks, I update all the definitions on the malware software. With the aforementioned error message problem with the lap top, I also have a problem with Adobe Reader (listed in another topic), that I can't uninstall it, without getting a 'Error 1402' message. Then the one last problem is the cursor jumping around at random times, when I am typing to either the forum or in a Word document. I mention these other issues because I am not sure they're not related. This is a DELL Inspiron 1520, Centrino (2007). What steps are you taking to run the check?

That error seems to indicate a hard drive problem, which is why it was suggested to run chkdsk /r.

Start/Run...type chkdsk /r and hit Enter. Type Y in new screen and hit Enter. Reboot the system. The command should execute, before booting into XP.

I was brought a machine the other day from a friend who got it from a house she was cleaning...so of course there is no telling why they left it behind as it is souped up with all the fans, lights, and amd EP-8KHA motherboard with the counter on it...which when I first loaded it..it took forever the boot screens came up then the wonderful....Services.exe - Application Error. The application failed to initialize (0xc0000005). came up. I went through the prompts of ending it...then 20 mins or so later windows finely loaded but the start menu was gone....at first the whole desktop was just the blue screen but my patients in letting it load I finely had icons but still no start menu...I found that someone had removed nortan...so there is no anti-virus on it....well I tried to load AVG on a CD that I burned off my PC and load it...along with Spy-bot, ad-aware SE, and a few other programs to see if I could get some of the tried but true to repair any virus, malware and such off. Well to no avail did any of the programs load...so I had noticed that when I tried going into user accounts to see if this account had admin. privileges the user accounts never loaded. Doing some investigating I found on Microsoft that I could make another account with admin privileges and that it should load....NOPE....I got the account created but when I tried to log into it no windows just a blank screen...Ctrl.Alt.Delete. brings up the task manager on network I see that it says that the INTERNET is run... Well...it seems to me (I may be misreading) but that system belonged to a unnamed 3d party, which had the operating license.

If I had found such system, the first thing I would have done is wipe it clean (because I don't like using someone else's data which they've decided to trash) and to give myself a good start at seeing if the system worked properly.

Then I would have done a clean install.

That's the only way that I know how to go from a series of unknowns...to a known good, working system.

Worst case scenario: The system is highly infected.

Best case scenario: The system has O/S or malware problems or a combination thereof.

A user is getting a popup warning upon login (see event log entry below).

This started last friday and another Tech ran chkdsk and the user was able to print a few times before they left at end of day, not able to print today. I ran the chkdsk but no luck.

The print spooler service will not start, when forced the popup shows.

I have removed and replaced spoolsv.exe with no luck.

Hi There

I have been given a friends computer to fix. The way he described it, it sounded like it was full of Malware etc, however I haven't been able to start it up as I get the following message appearing when I power it up.

userinit.exe - Application Error The Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click ok...

This message appears twice, I then get the wallpaper of the computer up, but nothing else, no icons or task bar. I have tried a wee trip to safe mode but don't get anywhere from that either, just the same message.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

DLL GB PLUGIN error on start up
Hi there everyone, good to meet you - this is my first thread so here goes !...

I've seen a similar thread put up a few days ago but as this is a different error message, I'm not sure whether the same solution will apply.

Every start up results in this error message:

" Error loading C:\Program files\GbPluggin\gbiehdst.dll"
The specific module could not be found.

AVG 8 doesn't pick anything up. I've run run a registry fix with CCleaner ( allowed it to fix all problems it found) and kept a back up and also deleted an improcserver 32 key that may have been a virus - nothing has changed. I have now restored the 32 key. ( by the way - I have no idea what this key is or what its for, I just came across these instructions in a thread somewhere)

I'm not sure what the problem is. Should I use Hijack - what is it and is it necessary?
OS is XP.
Any ideas?

Many thanks
