I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I have this laptop and it comes with a 2.4ghz wireless adapter. I see in the specs that it can come with a 5ghz ac adapter as well. I would like to upgrade it to the 5ghz adapter.

Thank you!

I'm planning to buy a WiFi 5Ghz USB adapter, but I don't know which one is truly plug and play.

Edit: By truly plug-and-play, I mean using the adapter without a driver taken from a website (and manually download it) or from a CD.

The target system is Windows 7, whatever version it can be.

Do anyone know if such WiFi adapters exists ?

A:upgrading WIFI adapter to support 5ghz

Hello,               Since you mentioned that you need to chage the frequency band to 5Ghz. It is not possible as the maximum frequency band that this card can run is 2.4Ghz Only with data transfer speed of 300Mbps. However you can change the channel settings in the router and check whether that works.  ******Clicking the Thumbs-Up button is a way to say -Thanks!.********Click Accept as Solution on a Reply that solves your issue to help others** I am an HP Employee#HPExpertsday

Hi there

If you use Chromecast - great device too even if it is made by Google a drawback is that the wifi receiver in the Chromecast device is limited to the 2.4 GHZ band which can get severely congested at times (so slow performance).

This little device is an Ethernet adapter for your Chromecast - so you can plug the thing straight into your router / cablebox via its LAN connection.

Now you can use 5GHZ band on your client devices -- much faster wifi experiemce - for example I'm getting absolutely no video lag accessing Chromecast using 5GHZ band with INTEL Dual band AC7265 wifi adapter built in to my laptop.

If you have 5GHZ band available on your router - especially in urban areas / large cities use it before "The masses" discover it. !!!

Cheers
jimbo

A:Chromecast - ethernet adapter - you can use 5GHZ wifi for clients

There is a way of connecting Chromecast via hard-wired Ethernet at about 1/3 cost of Google's device by buying a couple of adapters from your local electronics store or Amazon. See https://productforums.google.com/for...st/xo_NDh5CZA8

I've just done this and it works fine.

Good evening! I purchased this laptop earlier today and was surprised that the wireless adapter was not dual band (I should have checked). I'm very blessed and have 250 mbps up/down fiber internet at home, so I really need 5GHz to take advantage of the speed. Is it possible to upgrade the adapter in this laptop or do I need to return it and choose a different laptop?  Here is what is currently installed; let me know if you have any questions. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi everyone, I have a Linksys AE6000 Wireless USB adapter in my Laptop and it is 5Ghz enabled. When I first got my laptop it had Windows 8 on it, but before I did anything I reformatted it to Windows 7. Under Windows 7, this wireless adapter connected to my 5Ghz SSID on my router (the 2.4 and 5Ghz SSIDs are different from one another on my router) just fine and I was getting 500Mb/s speed over Wi-Fi. Then, I upgraded laptop to Windows 8.1, where adapter only detects my 2.4Ghz SSID, and now I only get 150Mb/s over Wi-Fi.

What do I do? I have tried reinstalling driver, using Win7 compatibility mode drivers, installing manually without GUI, I have made sure internal card is fully disabled, etc etc...

My specs are as follows:

Intel Core(TM) i7-3632QM Quad-core mobile CPU
8.00GB DDR3 RAM
Intel HD Graphics 4000
AMD Radeon 7670M GPU 2GB
Samsung Evo 120GB SSD
HP ENVY/Pavilion m6
Internal Wi-Fi card - Intel Wireless-N 2230
External USB Wi-Fi - Linksys AE6000
Router - Netgear R6300
Internet Connection - 150Mb/s down , 10 Mb/s up
Thanks

Any idea which internal card I could upgrade to?
I have looked at external USB cards but none of these seem to be significantly faster than the 300Mbps of the existing card. Or am I comparing apples with pears? And would an external card conflict with the current internal card wifi / bluetooth.
Does anyone have any experience of upgrading to 5Ghz on this laptop and whether it was worth the effort.

On my t460p, the wifi was very stable connecting to all networks whether 2.4 or 5ghz. After the latest Lenovo update to driver 20.30 via the system update, 5ghz networks now take ages to connect and sometimes fail to connect. This is on 2 routers used all the time and previously were very stable. I tried installing the latest intel drivers, 20.50 and they also had this issue. The routers are a BT hub and an Archer D2 so it is safe to say the issue is with the laptop not the router. How can I report this as a bug to lenovo ? Also, I would like to now install the previous drivers but I cannot find them on the lenovo website, does someone know how I can find them ? HII have an HP envy bought in 2016. Just found out that it doesnt have a dual band adapter duet to which I am having issues at several places where I need to connect to wifi. How can I get this resolved, my machine is still under warranty . Secondly almost everytime I come into my home or office network my laptop fails to detect the wifi and I have to restart the machine to get online. This is very inconvenient. Can anyone suggest a way out. Has any of you with the same machine noticed that its a bit slow, even after being the configuration that it is. My old laptop boots and performs much faster.  Cheers

A:Network Adapter not detecting 5Ghz

You simply identify the laptop as an Envy and there are lots of Envy models. Please specify yours. If your laptop does not have a dual band (5 ghz) wireless card the only way to get one is to replace your card and install a dual band card. That is not going to be a warranty thing it will be at your expense. As for the slow performance that is going to require a bit more information and troubleshooting.

Other devices on the network do not have the same disconection problem and have much faster broadband speeds via wifi. It seems that this is because they can use the 5Ghz band. Is there anyway to upgrade my current driver so it can recieve the 5Ghz band or failing that is there another wireless card that would be compatible with the HP Pavilion Notebook - 17-g150 that would allow me to pick up 5Ghz? Thank you.

Hi: See if updating the driver to the latest version helps... 7.35.351.0 Rev.A (25 Oct 2016) ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp78001-78500/sp78044.exe In order for the notebook to work on the 5.0 GHz wireless band, you need to replace the wlan card with one that is dual band. That is a hardware issue.  You can't turn a 2.4 GHz card into a 5.0 GHz card with a driver update. I would need to know the full model number or product number of your g150 notebook, in order to suggest a suitable hardware upgrade if one exists. The product number can be found on the same sticker as the serial number. There are at least half a dozen g150 model variations.

Hi guys, I have just upgraded my internet in the UK, and I can now receive speeds of up to 150mb.
My iPhone is fine and can connect to the 5Ghz network channel but my laptop cannot.

After a bit of looking into it, it seems my wireless card is not compatible, so I either need to change the wireless card within the laptop, or buy a dongle.

I'd rather install one within the laptop if that is possible (hp) or worst case, use a small dongle. The problem is, I really wouldn't want one the size of a normal USB pen, at the very most, one that is very small and cannot break.

Is there any suggestions on what to get? I type in on google but the dongles are all quite big.

Thanks

I just got this dongle the other day: EDIMAX EW-7811UTC AC600 Dual-band USB 2.0 Wireless Mini Adapter, ideally for upgrading Laptop, desktop, Macbook or Ultrabook with 433/150Mbps data rates - Newegg.com

It's the smallest I could find that supported dual band (2.4 & 5Ghz).

A:Does Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter Support 5Ghz

Hi: Your notebook has the Broadcom BCM43142 802.11b/g/n 1x1 Wi-Fi Adapter. It only works on the 2.4 GHz wireless band. Anytime you see a wifi N adapter with a suffix that ends in b/g/n, that means it is a single band (2.4 GHz only) wireless network adapter. Dual band wifi N adapters have suffixes that end in a/b/g/n, or a/g/n.

Hi. We bought this laptop yesterday and found that 5GHz wifi is very slow. The setup: LaptopLinsys WRT1900ACLG Nexus 5X On 2.4GHz everything works according to the Internet subscription - 30mbps/5mbps (down/up). On 5GHz, the phone still works accordind to the subscription,  but the laptop was about 4/3. We reloaded it and got 22/5 on 5GHz, but 2.4GHz is still 30/5. We tried many times and different spots but 2.4GHz always worked better than 5GHz.

A:5GHz wifi is very slow

The wifi status shows "Speed: 433 Mbps" and 4 bars in "Signal quality". Nexus 5X shows 866mbps and "excellent" on the very same spot.
