High CPU Usage and Reduced PC Performance

Q: High CPU Usage and Reduced PC Performance

I have purchased a gaming laptop in august of last year and it has been about 11 months since I've got it. For the first 8 months everything was amazing, i was getting high fps and good performance on all my games. Then about 3 months ago, the performance
went dramatically downhill. I wasnt sure as to why this happened so i restored my whole laptop but to no effect.
Any ideas? Anything helps,
Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I sincerely hope someone can help. I do not consider myself really computer illiterate, but this is where my understanding ends and I would truly value all help offered.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro M70 of 2 yrs old and I am a definite advocate for Toshiba. However, my operating system is slow. Average day usage with Internet Explorer and Office 2007 is a painstaking process that takes too long. I have had conflicts with Trend Micro Internet Security 2008, which works perfectly.

But starting up the computer takes ages. CPU usage is usually high and System Idle Processes as well. I have reinstalled Windows XP from the Toshiba Boot DVD already 4 times with starting fresh and installing everything time and time again. Each time after getting everything up to speed again, the performance is disappointing.

I have extended RAM to 1,49 GB which made little difference from the original 1/3 of RAM. It seems that something is slowing down the computer, but this is not visable in the processes; other than quite a few svhost.exe processes that take little processing capacity nor CPU usage.

I have used Windows Gold Certified Uniblue Power Suite with a good registry cleaner. This helps a bit, but after a couple of days it seems to get only worse. I have an Intel Pentium M 1.73 GHz processor. Research online reveals that Trend Micro IS 2008 is quite good and demanding little capacity in comparison to competing security packages.

Is this system/software related or could th... Read more

A:Re: Satellite Pro M70 - High CPU Usage - Low Performance

Hi

I doubt this could be a hardware issue? I mean a CPU usage could goes up if a certain service or applications would run in the OS background.

Usually the Antivirus applications are one kind of software which could cause such issue? I had a Norton System works installed on my notebook and this software needed a lot of hardware resources which slowed down the notebook?
Furthermore some Toshiba applications which are installed and running in the background could affect the performance. But such applications are needed in order to use all notebook features?

However, in msconfig you could disable it.
Start msconfig -> startup tab and disable some processes which are not necessary for you.

Furthermore you could use the CCleaner to clean the OS and the registry?

i have a problem but i bought a new Dell laptop with the following specifications
Dell inspiron 15R
core i7 3.1GHz Turbo, 6MB cache
16GB DDR3 RAM

now the problem is that when the system is ideal it takes around 2.5 GB RAM usage
even there is no running applications
also i noticed that it's performance not that much.

is it normal?

A:Windows 7 high RAM usage and low performance

I think it's OK. For Win7 Ult it's normal to use about 25-30% of the RAM in idle. And it's about that percentage no matter how much RAM do You have installed .

Hi everyone,

I have some problems with my relatively new dell laptop (4 months old, and the problems are present for like 3 months), which include: Very high RAM usage: 80% when only Microsoft Edge is turned on.
Very high Disc usage: 100% almost at all times
Low performance in games (the laptop meets the req. for a game, still cant handle it; low fps, stuttering, freezing.
Can't handle videos sometimes: the sound works but video is frozen, or video Works and sound freezes.
Sometimes VERY S L O W: sometimes when i open an app, it turns on after a minute; when i type, the letters appear after a while.

I have already reset it to factory settings and wiped the HDD, didn't help. I have a lot of free space on HDD, no dust in the laptop, no physical damage, no viruses, no (useless) background proceses.

I have already had a call with a dell technician (he did some changes and driver updates), also didn't help.

Do you think a RAM upgrade would solve this? Or do i have to take it to service? Or anything else? Please help.

Thanks for answer in advance. (and sorry for my weak english)

Regards,
Martin

I'm posting here because we are talking about performance and resource monitor.

As I have noticed before, my machine last night started being quite audible, sounding really busy. When I looked in task manager and performance and resource monitor I noticed that my cpu usage was running between 55% to 70% without Firefox or IE8 being loaded. This may be normal, yet my question is why could I not see that usage in either monitors? Something under system (kernel......?) was showing the biggest usage of about 20% but the rest of the list showed either 0% or perhaps a few kept fluctuating between 1% to 2% but there was nothing I could see that added up to what I was being told the usage was. My memory usage at that time was about 23% to 25%, disk usage 1%. So, what kept my machine so busy? This morning all is back to normal cpu around 3%, memory about 33%.

A:High CPU usage in Performance and Resource Monitor?

I would first check to see what programs are scheduled to perform scans around that time. Depending on the settings (daily, weekly, etc) it may take a while for it to recur.

When you open up Task Manager, go to the Processes tab.
Make sure that you click on the button in the lower left that says "Show processes from all users:
Then click on the View menu item, then on the Select columns menu item.
Place checkmarks in the I/O Reads and I/O Other boxes and click OK to exit the dialog.
Then expand the Task Manager window so that you can read the columns (you can double click on a column header to sort by that column).

Then wait for it to happen again - and check for the highest numbers in each of the columns. Let us know what you find and we can work from there.

I've just started having a problem where my computer becomes periodically unusable for chunks of time, like 30-60 minutes.
Everything is going along well and then it slows down to a crawl.
In the task manager, under performance, I see a crazy amount of activity, sometimes pegged at 100%, sometimes less. But even when it shows the cores around 50-70%, I can't even right an email without significant lag.

It's a Dell, Windows 7 x64. i7 processor, 16gb of RAM.
The thing is, when I look at the applications running, none of them account for all the activity.
When I look at processes that doesn't add up to all the activity I'm experiencing either.
I got something called Process Explorer which gives a more thorough list but that doesn't show very high activity either for any process.

I ran several virus scans while the computer was booted into safe mode with networking. One of them caught some stuff, but subsequent searches came up clean.

I ran a tool to clean up the registry.

I can't figure out what is causing the problem and I don't know what to try now. It's weird because after a while the activity will just stop and I can use my computer again. And then just as mysteriously the problem will start up again.
Thanks for any help.

Sounds like you got background programs running try control alt delete check and checking task manager to see what processes are sucking up CPU and you could try config.sys check your startup services are running.

I think this is a sata issue or a BIOS setting or perhaps just a Windows 8 bug...

Basically this happens:

I recently installed Windows 8 and finally some free time to get Steam installed. Installed Steam and am copying over my Steam directory (Disk 2, K) from my Win 7 to where I installed Steam this time (Disk 0, C). This is the same physical computer as I had Win 7 on prior.

What has changed since Win 7 is I thought since I was doing a fresh install, I would turn on AHCI in the BIOS and do it proper rather than IDE emulation or whatever it is called. But now crap like this happens. I googled a bit a week or 2 ago trying to figure it out and basically all that I could gather is either a hard drive is dying or it is an NCQ problem. Hard drive is not dying, I've ran plenty of diagnostics on it, and plus, it has less than 200 powered on hours at this point.

Now I turned off NCQ on ALL my drives just to see if the problem went away. It didn't, but I think it may have improved a little.

Device manager doesn't show any yellow "!" for anything.

Obviously this is completely unacceptable. Ideas on what to change to make it behave normally? Hopefully I'm missing something obvious, I've never used AHCI on a system before, mostly because when I had a system capable of it I was on XP and didn't want to load 3rd party drivers. Then for Vista and 7 I simply forgot before installing to switch it in the BIOS. I remembered this time for 8, ... Read more

Evening Folks,

I just recently installed Windows 10 on my Dell Inspiron Laptop and so far I am not impressed at all - in fact, I am very seriously debating one of two actions - re-install Windows 7 or switching to an entirely different OS.

The reason for reverting to Windows 7/switching OS are as follows:
1) Currently with an idle system (i.e. no applications running at all), an svchost process is using anywhere from 40 to 60% of my cpu. When I did a tasklist on this process the following processes are attached to this one pid: Appinfo, BITS, Browser, DsmSVC, IKEEXT, iphlpsvc, LanmanServer, lfsvc, ProfSvc, Schedule, SENS, ShellHWDetction, Themes, UserMananger, Winmgmt, wuauserv. My question is this - is it necessary for these processes to be run. If they are, then am I looking at only being able to use 50% of my processor (since this one pid is using the rest of it)?

2) For a virus scanner - I am using McAffee and under Windows 7, it took my laptop 24 hours to scan 231 GB of data. Since I switched to Windows 10 (Same hardware, same memory, etc) it now takes my virus scanner over 48 hours to scan 231 GB of data.

3) If I had not been poking around and trying to change my update settings, I would never have found out that Microsoft expects their users to update the windows of the other users (Microsoft calls it Dynamic Updates). Now this is all well and good if some one had said something since I would have loved to know about it sooner since I am on a metered ... Read more

A:Poor Performance from Windows 10 - High CPU usage from SVCHOST

Something is not right with your installation. For comparison, with my idle system Task Manager shows 0% CPU use and 0% disk use for most of the time. Over a period of 1-2 mins it will jump to 50% for a few seconds on a number of occasions as it completes some task or other but then drops down again.

How did you install W10? Was it an upgrade via the Windows Update service or via an installation disk? Was it a clean install or did you choose to keep all your files and programs. I'm guessing it was the windows update route which has proved to be troublesome for some users.

As you are already thinking of a re-installation I would suggest you first try a clean install of W10. If you get it working correctly on your system it will be worth it.

Make sure you get the correct version/edition of W10 as an ISO download from the MS Tech Bench (this will make sure you get the latest build and avoid further updates) to match your original W7 version and proceed to install, skipping any activation steps as this will happen automatically once you are finished.

There are tutorials and many threads that run through this process for you on this site.

Seems I've gotten a bug over the past few weeks. I typically run AvastFree but seeing AvastSvc was consuming a lot of CPU resource, I uninstalled (using the Avast uninstaller through Safe Mode) prior to running FRST and posting this topic. In normal operation, CPU usage typically runs in the %-12%, sometimes 15% range during normal day to day usage. Now it's consistently in the 70%-90%, sometimes 100% range, when doing the same activities.
One other thing I've noted is I can't get into "Add/Remove Programs". A window opens when I click th elink out of COntrol Panel, but it never populates - although in the past it has always been slow to populate (30 secs to 1 minute), I've let it sit 5 minutes now without success. In the past, it would always populate while I was doing other things. It won't now.

As always, Thanks in advance!

After I returned from Holidays...I noticed that when I perform tasks that use considerable amount of CPU, the computer 'lags' and the sound seems to freeze. Each cycle being 1 sec long. It will continue to do so until I leave the computer and close CPU-consuming applications such as games, Media Players etc...It usually happens when I play games and watch movies though...

I initially thought that it was a virus so I scanned etc, then I thought it might be due to the CPU overheating, so I opened my machine and checked the CPU paste. It was fine no problems there. Then I checked the processes, nothing and finally arrived at System Resources where I saw that 'System Interrupts' was eating around 30 - 50% of my CPU. I have searched google and haven't come to a solution for this. I have updated my chipset drivers, graphic card drivers, sound drivers, Network card drivers, Motherboard etc. There is no effect whatsoever. It's really frustrating me as I can't even listen to music sometimes...I had used up all of my USB ports, so I tried taking some out, but there was no result...

When I restart it kind of calms down, but then it comes again. Even when I type in my password to enter Windows, the welcome sound freezes momentarily again. I have recently bought this system (custom built myself) so I'm really frustrated and cant think of a reason why this happens so suddenly

Any help will be greatly appreciated

A:Laggy performance during high usage - caused by System Interrupts

Welcome to SF, msjamalan!

If it's a virus or malware problem, please reboot into safe mode and run your scans. Malwarebytes should be your malware scanner.

If you have a lot of applications open at one time, you may want to bump up your memory.

You can also run msconfig and see if you can uncheck startup items. Be careful with this one.

Still, I wonder why this change has occurred after you have returned from vacation. Can you think of anything different before and after holidays?

Hello,
This is Devendra from India. Recently I purchased Dell 15 3567 (i7,8GBRAM). After purchasing I notice that it performance it not good and in Task Manager the Disk usage is always high. I contact lots of time to different-different Dell Agents. Each time they try some solutions like Resetting PC setting, Refreshing OS image, by disabling background services, Replace Hard Drive but unfortunately the actual issue has not been detected and fixed yet. I've requested to them to send Dell engineer to my place to check the system, so exact issue can detect. But they can't help. It has been since a long time that I'm requesting. Can anyone please help me. My details are given below.

A:Inspiron 15-3567, Performance Issue, high disk usage

It's just about impossible to quantify the "performance it not good" element.  Relative to what?
It is very possible the CPU is simply outstripping the ability of the hard drive to keep up - in a system with a conventional, spinning hard drive, that will be the slowest element -- and this is a very low-end system.   It may well be you're running applications the system just isn't capable of running well.
A Dell engineer can only run the same diagnostics you can -- if your system shows no faults, you may want to consider either upgrading it to a solid state drive, or if it's new enough, upgrading to a more capable system than this low-end model provides.

Hello guys. Recently I've bought I PowerColor ATI HD 6790 1 GB DDR5 video card. My old one was the 4670 version, though it was from Gigabyte. And oddly enough, my performance seems to have been reduced.

This is my current setup

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+
PowerColor Ati HD 6790 1GB DDR5
ECS GF8100VM-M5
Lc-Power LC 420H-12
Western Digital 500gb Sata2 7200 Rpm 32mb Buffer
3,00 GB RAM
TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S203B ATA

What could be causing this and what would be the solution?

Thank you

I've had a lot of reduced performance with my system lately, in addition to a lot of windows error messages for some reason. I just un-installed a handful of anti-spyware/malware apps because I had way too many.
Now I'm left with HJT, MalwareBytes (w/ active protection), TuneUp2009, ZoneAlarm, & Spyware Blaster
Is this sufficient protection?
Applications load up much slower and the start is lagged.
Otherwise I haven't had too many issues, a couple crashes few and far between.
Any ideas?

Hello everyone, I've been having a very weird problem recently, in which I BELIEVE is involving high physical memory usage. Sometimes I will be doing things such as playing a game, or watching a stream, and my computer will run fine for a little while. But at random times, my computer will majorly slow down and sometimes even crash. If it doesn't crash, sometimes it will get so slow to the point where I have to hold down the power button and manually shut it down. Every time my computer slows down I notice it is using a TON of physical memory. It's actually happening right now. My computer is going very slow and it's using 6.22 GB memory out of 8. There are no big programs running right now, so I don't understand why it's being slow. I hope someone is able to help. Thank you for taking the time to read this!

Update: I just tried to open chrome, and the computer froze completely. It would not unfreeze. After leaving it frozen for a minute or two, the screen went black. This is becoming very frustrating.

As the title implies, my HP Pavilion dv6 running Windows 7 HomePremium 64bit goes >80% CPU usage at that option. While when I changed it to "HP Recommended" option it goes normal again.

It's not like I have a problem with the "HP Recommended" settings, but it's just wierd: just changing the screen brightness and no-sleep setting could make CPU Usage >80%?

Anyone knows why did this happen? I just got my HDD changed by warranty 1 week ago so the windows is still fresh + added MalwareBytes.

A:>80% CPU usage at "High Performance" power option

I think it's a thing to do with Intel CPUs. AMD have a technology called 'Cool & Quiet' and it means that when there's no demand for a high clock, the frequency will automatically go down. I think enabling 'High Performance' mode in the battery options since they clock cannot go anywhere, the usage will increase.
It's only from personal experience that it seems to be Intel, I've never heard of this problem from AMD CPU users. I think it's just OK to leave the power mode to 'Balanced'. This way, it won't waste power.

It takes about ~4 mintues to boot this laptop, inexplicable CPU usage. Though the usage isn't consistently bad. Today I experienced such taxed resource usage, that simply moving the cursor across the screen had a choppy latent effect. I'd move the cursor, and about 1-2 seconds later, it would move it's position on the screen. I have ran Ad-aware, and Spybot, and they removed only tracking cookies. Trendmicro housecall came up with nothing. Here is the HJT log:

Mal/Generic A

unfortunately it keeps jamming up so it wont erase them. Any help scanning the system would be much appreciated.

Windows 7 Home Edition, standard HP desktop.

Btw I did install a video card upgrade today, dont know if that could have potentially effected things, but it has been runnning worse since.. went from 256mb integrated to 1gig ATI Sapphire HD4670..

Thanks,

Cry Performance reduced after reinstalling WinXP pro

I have just reinstalled my system (XP Pro) and updated it online to SP2. Authenticated updated and all. I haven't changed any hardware and in fact I reinstalled less software than before.
Since reinstallation and updating, I've noticed considerable deterioration on system performance, reflected e.g. on scroll speed (eg in Firefox and in Word & Excel. For firefox I've checked "smooth scrolling" it's off. Especially Word used to be up to 1page/sec while scrolling with arrow keys, now is down to 5-6 sec/page. Also: normally Word shows the page numbers (lower left corner) changing as you scroll - not anymore in my case. Page numbers remain change only after scrolling stops. Other example is when I move windows on the screen, movement is not spooth but rather jerky.
Any ideas?
My 2.66GHz machine is clean according to avast antivirus, spybot, adaware & adwatch, Netscape's own spyware scanner. Reg mechanic finds no problems. HD (40GB) is error free and cleaned-up and defragmented. Smooth scrolling options are off.
Thanks to anyone who could help.

Help with MS Office is another forum, so I can't hep you with Word settings.
As far as your general slowness issue: If it's slower now than it was before the re-install, then you did something different this time than you did previously. Try and think what that might be. I could sit here and guess all week and we might never stumble across it, there's just too many things that could affect performance.

I am reasonably computer-literate, at least to the point of maintaining an efficient and virus free computer to operate at top performance. Inexplicably, my gaming performance on applications which normally achieve steady frames in the 40's and 50's range are completely stuttering around 2-3. My computer is very well maintained, with a commit charge of 123, regularly defragged, registry cleaned, scanned for viruses, etc. I thought that it might be a case of conflicting drivers, and as such updated all of them, with the exception of my BIOS (was going to try but am out of floppy disks). The only other thing that I can think of besides a BIOS conflict is that in the add/remove programs list is a Client Hack 1.9.2d that cannot be removed, nor is it recognized when I do deep scans with kaspersky or bitdefender. it seems unlikely to me that one virus is drastically reducing my gaming performance, its possible that a particular setting on my computer is wrong, but I checked everything I know (including BIOS AGP aperture settings, etc). Please, any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated, as this has been driving me mad as I've been trying to remedy this on my own for the past few days.

Hello,

Week ago I bought new SSD drive. (OCZ Agility 3, 2.15 firmware)
I made fresh install of OS, newest drivers etc.
SSD and my system was working very well but I was disapointed to my SSD-benchmark results. Well I tried to increase performance by updating my motherboard bios. Bios update succeed but it didnt really increase performance of my ssd, new bios reduced writing performance notable. (MOBO = Asus m4a87td/usb, bios v.2001) AHCI is on.

What with that 103424? Shouldnt it be 1024? Previous score over 400 points, now just 300. (disappeared in picture)

Also noticed another problem. I can't boot my comp if I have external drive plugged in.
I just can't change my 1st device boot to agility drive in bios because it's not in the list of boot devices. Well I unplug external drive and its working. Also thought that bios update would fix it but it didnt.

-Valtsu

A:SSD Performance reduced after BIOS update.

Your numbers are lower than most, but I don't know if it would be noticed in real life as opposed to a benchmark.

I think that 103424 is a reference to alignment. If it's evenly divisible by 4, it should be OK--and it is.

Not sure about the BIOS/external drive issue. Was the external connected when you did the clean install to the SSD?

One way or another, I'd make sure all boot files were on the SSD and that it appeared in the BIOS and was bootable, regardless of whether the external was plugged in.

Hi,

This problem has me completely baffeled. I'm not even sure if this is the right forum to be posting in. (If you can suggest a forum better related to topic please do).

Recently I noticed my whole system being slower and more sluggish. Especially playing games. I checked my windows experience index and it had changed from 6.5 to 2.9.

The only scores in the list that have changed signifigantly are my cpu (now at 2.3) and my memory access(2.9).

This happend to me once before about 6 months ago. In the end I updated my dell bios from a10 to a11 and my score went up to 6.5 and my performance was percieveably improved.

Now I dont understand why (what seems like the same problem) has happened again.

I'd be very grateful if somebody could help me figure out why my system has suddenly slowed down so drastically.

Thanks,

dub

A:CPU and memory performance suddenly drastically reduced

Take a look at Task Manager when it is running slow. Look at processes to see what is taking up RAM and CPU cycles.

Does it boot as quickly as before?

I wouldn't expect a BIOS change to improve things.

Look at Resource Monitor to see how much RAM you are using at any particular time.

Have you done any tests of your RAM or hard drive to confirm they are OK?

How confident are you that you have no viruses or malware?

Ive an older notebook that i still use when needed, but recently it has become  increasingly slower and slower and very temperamental. By this it can take a load of time to load up a page, or any simple task can just hang, to the point i will go start making a coffee! It just seems to some days really struggle to do anything.Whilst not the fastest notebook it has saved my bacon on a few ocassions, i would like to keep it as a spare but dont know why its all of a sudden having issues.

The notebook is a Operating System is a Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit SP2 running an Intel Celeron M @ 1.86GHz Conroe-L 65nm Technology, its RAM consists of  1.00GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 266MHz (4-4-4-12), the Motherboard is a Acer Volvi2 (U2E1) and the Hard Drives is a 75GB Hitachi HTS542580K9SA00 (SATA).
The hard drive has been partitioned by the previous owner i assume, as i certainly didn’t do it. It looks like the following
Partition 1
Partition ID         Disk #0, Partition #1
                Disk Letter          C:

Hi

Yes, low free space on the C drive is a problem here. Experts recommends at lease 15% free space in the OS partition for proper system operation. Other than the free space issue, there might be additional problems in your system such as malwares, failing or old aging hard dive etc. Please try the below steps.

Transfer all the data that can be moved from C to D partition. Free up maximum space as you can.

Download and run TFC to clean all kind of temp files.

      http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/tfc/

 Uninstall unused applications.

Open Control Panel --> Programs and uninstall all the software which you never used. They only help to eat hard drive space and slowing down Windows by adding unnecessary services.

To detect and uninstall bloatwares pre-loaded by laptop manufacturer, you can use the free program PC Decrapifier.

     http://pcdecrapifier.com/

Use Microsoft Security Essentials as the antivirus solution.

Most of the third party AV programs are huge resource hogs and known to slow down  systems. Microsoft's own AV program MSE requires very low system resources and works very well with Windows. I highly recommends uninstalling your current antivirus completely and use MSE instead.

I have a DV6 Hp Pavillion laptop, which was working perfectly up until a few days back. Even though it is a little old, because of my 8GB RAM , 2Gb ATI Radeon and i7 Sandy Bridge it was functioning efficiently until now.
I replaced my battery and charger a year back. The laptop was was also replaced about 2 months ago.

In the last 1 week, I have noticed that my laptop is always heated and overheats even when I play any low graphic games .This I presumed was because of a battery/power issue which caused the laptop to lag/hang. Henceforth, I ran an energy diagnostic test on my system and came up with the follwing results (I will post them below this paragraph).

The diagnostic report shows that there seems to an issue with the ACPI _TSD Object Failed Validation. Can anyone please help with this and tell me how to rectify this issue?

I have a NX9420 for about 9 years now and love it.  I recently not only upgraded to a SSD but also maxed out the max supported memory of 4GB yet only 3.37GB are actually used. I have the latest BIOS version installed. How can I use more of the installed memory?? Is there a trick to activate it??

A:NX9420 reduced memory usage??

Hi: What you are seeing is perfectly normal.  Actually 3.37 GB is not bad at all.  You will never get all 4 GB to show up on any Intel PC unless it has a Mobile Intel 965 or newer chipset (one that can take 8 GB of memory).

So, I'm at school and I receive a text from my mother stating that she is receiving porn popups and that google results are sending her off to random pages. This isn't uncommon because no one in my family understands computers anymore than your average secretary (no offense, but let's be honest. lol)... That being said, I went over and ran a few scans as I normally do which tends to clean it up fairly well. I begin by running HiJackThis and looking through it's logs and then looking at the startup items...

During this processes, I noticed several suspicious files that definitely did not belong. I then made sure to update the definitions on the current AV installed (BitDefender) and ran a scan with it. Afterwards, I continued to run Malwarebytes AntiMalware and SuperAntiSpyware. All 3 of them came back with results of finding several trojans... After running those, cleaning with them, rebooting, ect.. The popups were gone and the system was operating much more smoothly...

However, I got another text 2 days later, after returning to campus, that she was getting redirects again and BitDefender kept popping up several alerts about trojans... For insance, when I used that machine to google GMER; it showed the proper results but when clicking on the first result it then redirected me to:
"hxxp://www.njksearch.net/cc.php?id=27946228"

Also, to summarize what MBAM found, it listed Rogue.Spypro, Trojan.Agent, Trojan.FakeAlert, Trojan.Dropper, Exploit.Drop.2, and Ba... Read more

I should also note that ComboFix results in a BSOD everytime.

While you may see ComboFix being used quite often, and possibly you have used the tool yourself without incident, the tool should not be run unsupervised (as stated in the Disclaimer that is first displayed by ComboFix when you run the tool)

Going forward, I highly recommend you heed such instructions. As explained in Post 2 of our pre-posting topic...

Quote:

Why we don't ask you to run ComboFix from the onset

ComboFix is a very powerful tool which when improperly used may render your machine to a doorstop.

We first need to verify if there's any rootkits present and how they could affect our tools. DDS & GMER are preliminary scans. We use their logs to map our strategy for attack.

With these logs we can determine the infections present & decide whether to deploy ComboFix.

That being said, I'll need a log from another tool. Again, it's important you follow these instructions as given.

Please download aswMBR.exe and save it to your desktop.

Double click aswMBR.exe to start the tool. At this time, select No when prompted to download the Avast database.
Click Scan
Upon completion of the scan, click Save log and save it to your desktop, and post that log in your next reply for review. Note - do NOT attempt any Fix yet.

About a year ago, I noticed that my computer was running slow (both online and off) and that the explorer.exe process listed in the Windows Task Manager was usually running very high. Windows Explorer seemed to crash a lot as well. A few months ago, I attempted to install Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 on my computer and before the install completed a warning window popped up saying something like 'there is already another instance of Kaspersky running' (which was not the case since this was the first time I had ever attempted to install Kaspersky software) and the install failed. When I rebooted my computer, I got the blue screen of death for a few seconds and then Windows booted with a message saying that Windows had recovered from a serious problem. Since recovering from whatever happened after the failed Kaspersky install, my computer is slower than ever and the Task Manager still shows a high CPU usage even though the System Idle Process is high and there isn't any processes listed that are using much CPU time at all.

I just scanned my system with the latest updated versions of AdAware, Spybot S&D, SuperAntiSpyware, and Avira AntiVir. All of them found nothing. I then cleaned my computer with CCleaner and ran HijackThis.

Here is the log:

This problem began yesterday. I noticed my CPU was at 90C constantly with very high CPU usage (>50%). I had no major programs running. I rebooted several times and the program persisted.

1. I went into safe mode and everything was normal. So this rules out hardware issues.
2. I reformatted and everything was normal..but then after installing these few programs, the problem began again.

Hello. First off, having utorrent effectively craps you out on this forum since it has a bad rep. Suggest you remove it and come back, start a new thread. That said, if you're familiar with Task Manager, check the CPU percentage on the processes tab (click CPU column to sort). This may help pinpoint which app(s) are whack.

There is a serious issue with svchost.exe on my windows 7 computer. My HP Touchsmart 300-1025 has windows 7 64bit installed and svchost is slowing down the computer and using very high cpu and memory usage. It is not a virus or malware. I know the computer is not infected because one the computer has webroot and two if it was a virus or malware I would not be able to use the computer at all. So it has to be an issue with windows 7 64bit itself. Here is a screenshot of what I'm talking about and proof.

Hijack log below

Two weeks ago my Quark 7 stopped working - it will start and come up with the splash screen, but then will not go any further - a list of processes shows it's running at 50 cpu usage and 78944 memory usage. I have tried uninstalling reinstalling and have ran Norton's Antivirus, Spybot Search and Destroy and CCleaner to no avail. I have attached my HiJack log below.

The main programs that I use daily (and yes Quark is one of them) are the following

Adobe Photoshop CS3, ACDSee 9, Outlook express, Quark 7.0, Internet Explorer, Dreamweaver 8

Thank you for taking the time - I'm pretty frustrated!
