I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,I have Lenovo y700-15isk, Win 10.The problem: Suddenly the keyboard began behaving weird. Some keys perform different actions than expected. For example, when I press 5 from Num pad, it shows 5 but also activates "options" key (between left Ctr and left Alt). When i hit - (minus from Num pad) it opens Start menu. Strangely, the Win key does not work and does not open Start menu and sometimes instead shows a minus (-).When i hit + from Num pad, the cursor immeadiately goes to the top of the page and then adds the + symbol. When i press 2 from Numpad the cursor goes to the bottom of the page and then adds 2.It is as if the NumLock is on and off at the same time making the keys perform double action. In short, the problem seems to be in the Num pad keys (with the Win key exception).I tried changing languages, layouts, safe mode, holding power key for 10 seconds, restarting... nothing changed. Please, guys, this is very frustrating, can you help me with this? Anyone had something like this?

Hi everyone, newbie here. Sorry if I've posted this in the wrong spot. I joined this forum to get help with another problem but after reading the posting instructions I'd better do some homework before getting into that little mess I've made .

In the meantime, I've pulled out an inherited (but brand new) laptop and there is a glitch in the keyboard.

The @ key types " and vice versa.

Because the laptop was probably bought 1 to 3 years ago (and I don't know where from), I won't bother trying to fix it under warranty.

Any ideas please?

Many thanks in advance.

You possibly have English UK/English U.S. problem.

On Task Bar where it say EN, right click and Settings
(if not there, Control Panel - Region and Language - Keyboards and Languages - Change Keyboards)
Click Add - Find the appropriate keyboard in the list.
Change Default input language above to new language you have added
Remove the old one below box (Installed Services)

Ok, so I had Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2, but I wanted Professional because I heard it takes advantage of the dual core thing when Home doesn't, so I installed Windows XP Professional Media Center Edition 2005 and then upgraded to Service Pack 2. I didn't do anything on the computer before upgrading to Service pack 2, except register the computer and things, which I found out my problem. When entering my Email, instead of the @ sign coming up, the " sign came up.. here is a list of the keys that shouldn't be coming out when the button(s) is/are pressed(Note, I have an American Keyboard and an American copy of Windows):

Shift+'[email protected]
Not this / but the other slash=#
Shift+Not this / but the other slash=~

Is there anything known to fix this? Because this is getting very annoying, and I just want my keyboard to be normal lol.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance,

I have the Gateway NE56R12u 15.6-Inch Laptop
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1

A few drops of water was spilled onto my keyboard (I don't think the water got down into the laptop... as far as I could tell the water landed on top of the keys, but I could be wrong) and when I went to clean it, I didn't think ahead and turn it off before cleaning up the spill. So many keys were pressed and now the keyboard is not functioning correctly. When I press the majority of the keys, they will either add other letters/symbols, or they will trigger Windows shortcuts.

As an example..
B = "B (it also brings up the right click menu) (this will also bring up this: € symbol as well as times)
O = 7i7o0
L = *L{YK

M = HM

k= yk*

j = brings up googlechrome downloads

i = takes curser to the start of the text

The space key types b ' and brings up the right click menu.

7 brings up the "open file" shortcut

and so on

Some keys are working properly: a c d e f g q r s t v w x z

I browsed google a little to see if anyone else has had this problem. A big fix was pressing the FN button and the NumLock at the same time. That didn't work. Which, I doubted it would since my laptop has a full keyboard.

Is it possible that it's stuck on some sort of sticky keys or toggle keys setting?

I don't know if this is a software or a hardware issue, but using the onscreen or an exter... Read more

Hi, I have Lenovo Y700 gaming laptop which I purchased 5 months back. My drive D and E (which equals to 900 GB) doesn't show up anymore. It used to happen before but after a restart it would be ok so I ignored it lately. Today while accessing those drives I got the error message "The request failed due to fatal device hardware error". I restarted my PC and now those drives doesn't appear anymore. ?I looked for solutions over the internet and most of them led me to renaming unallocated partition in Disk Management. But I don't have an unallocated partition as well!?Intel Rapid Storage Technology prompts that I should supress the problem of SATA disk (932 GB). Doing that doesn't change anything either!! Please help. It would be highly appreciated.

I have an English/Hebrew keyboard in my laptop (Toshiba Satellite, Windows 7 64-bit) and for the past few days the blinking text cursor is facing to the right sometimes when my keyboard is on Hebrew (it supposed to face left). Only when I start writing in Hebrew does it change direction, but then when I move to a place where there's a text in English (like the Address Bar) the cursor faces left even though it still on Hebrew.
So what happens is that I never really know what language I am on - only when I start writing, which is very annoying.

Hello, I have a friend here who has a Lenovo Y700 and it has been giving an issue lately that he has made rather obvious constantly cursing and saying how much he hates his laptop so I decided I was going to come here and ask y'all for some help or advice. The issue he is having is with his keyboard. The only example I have of this issue is when we play Garry's Mod. The popular steam game. He can play for a while. We have a good time messing around with stuff. Then his keyboard stops working. All he can do is look around and when he tries walking, he walks in one direction and can't stop it. The only solution he has is temporary. He just shuts down his laptop then turns it back on, then the same issue occurs between 10 minutes to an hour or 2.We have factory reset it once and it worked for a little while but then the same issue came back and he is getting really annoyed by it. If any of you have a solution to this very problem or a solution to a problem similar to this, it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Forums, I already saw that I am not the only one who has a problem with the keyboard on a Lenovo laptop. My keyboard randomly stops working when I am in a game like League of Legends (i guess it happens only in games because I use the keyboard intensely then). I just want to check if anyone has the solution to this problem. I already invested many hours trying to solve the issue (eg reinstalled Windows) and my next step would be to send it back to Lenovo and let them repair it (maybe change the keyboard). Greetings, Leesinovo

Hello, My laptop configuration:OS: Windows 10 64 bits (up-to-date)Model : Lenovo Ideapad Y700 15ISK (80NV)BIOS : CDCN37WW Five days ago the keyboard suddenly stopped to respond (nb : the Num Lock led remained on). I tried to restart Windows but since it could not (stucked on the reboot screen) I pressed the power button and heard a "clack" sound. When I restarted the computer the hard drive made some noices and the fans started to turn at high speed for ~3 seconds.NB : I upgraded to bios CDCN35WW few days before. After the incident I updated to CDCN37WW. Today the problem happened again (keyboard not responding). Before trying to reboot I unpluged and pluged back my mouse (Lenovo gaming mouse). As I expected, it did not function once I pluged it back. I tried to log out before rebooting. At that time Windows crashed and I saw the BSOD for 1 second before the computer shut down and reboot showing the Novo Button Menu (the keyboard was still not responding at this time).I rebooted by pressing the power button, once again some worrysome electrical noices while I was doing so.The computer restarted and once again noices from the hard drive + fans at full speed. Any suggestion ? Are BIOS updates bugged ?Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello, On occasion, the keyboard of my Lenovo Y700 will cease accepting input. It however is still being fed power due to the persistence of the backlight and lights of the Num Lock and Caps Lock keys. I can still navigate with my mousepad. Some time after the keyboard locks out, the computer will slowly crash, e.g. my applications begin displaying the "Not Responding" dialog, and eventually the computer boots to a Lenovo Safe Mode screen where my keyboard still cannot receive input. I then shut the computer off using the power button (which makes a strange popping noise coming from inside the computer) and reboot. The computer then works fine. And then the same error happens over and over again. I dealt with it for a little bit since it would happen only once a day or so. But the rate of lockout-crashing has been increasing. My drivers are all up to date. I'm at a loss. This is incredibly frustrating, especially considering the error happens at unpredictable times.Thank you for reading, neitorfuModel Name: Y700-15ISK Laptop (ideapad) Serial #: PF0I44L4 Machine Type: 80NV0026US

Hi everyone, I bought this laptop about 3 months ago and I'm loving it so far. But every so often the keyboard would just stop working and when I try shutting it off, it would go through the entire shutting off process and the screen goes black but all the lights and fan would still be on. I am then forced to hold the power button down to force it off. When I restart the computer instead, it would take me to the blue screen where it would say "Windows has ran into an unexpected error" then the screen would turn black again and everything else would be on. Anyone have any idea or solution to what's going on? Thanks in advnace!

A few weeks ago I bought a Lenovo Y700 15ISK with Windows 10 already preinstalled. I've noticed two main problems: the keyboard sometimes stops responding (this happens mainly when I am gaming, it happened firstly with Fallout 3 and then with Overwatch). When it happens I can't do anything but force shutting down the machine. It had been happening for a week or so, now it's been a while since it last occured. Second one, is that I keep on getting random BSODs while doing not much intensive activities. It's been happening once a day for two weeks now, and it's getting annoying. One thing that I can note, is that it's always happening while I'm surfing the web (Facebook, Youtube, etc). It has been preannunced once or twice by the screen blinking black for less than a second. The error message last time was "system_service_exception, igdkmd64.sys".If you need more information, just tell me.Thank you in advance.

Any help to correct this problem would be appreciated.
I don't know if this is a hardware issue or a software issue. Whenever I press certain letters I get a numeric stroke. For example:

The only reason I'm able to type this is because I've connected another keyboard up to the laptop.

A:Solved: Fujitsu laptop keyboard showing wrong characters

Most likely you have some kind of number lock feature on. It's so you can use the letters as you would a number pad on a standard keyboard.

Try to find a key on your keyboard labeled "Num Lock" and press it (you may have to hold down something like an "Fn" key while pushing the Num Lock button).

A:Lenovo Y50 Keyboard Wrong Behaviour

Hi AnkurSharma,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
Try connecting an external USB keyboard and test the same keys (zxcvbnm).
Another alternative to isolating if such is a Windows issue or a hardware keyboard problem is booting the machine using a live media image similar to this.
If the same issue with another boot image and likewise fine using an external USB keyboard then it is probable that there is an issue with the keyboard itself. You may try reseating the cable and cleaning but if still, the same, replacement may be proper.
Update us how it goes.

A:Application Icons not showing their symbols?

Hello Cyanide,

Do the shortcuts still work?

You might see if rebuilding the icon cache may help.

If not, then you might see if creating new shortcuts for them directly from the program's .exe file may display properly.

Hope this helps.

I download a registry cleaner and ran a system check with the software. After I rebooted, instead of showing english, it was showing symbols . any idea how to fix this problem?

A:Symbols showing instead of English language

Try restoring a backup the program might have made before "fixing" your computer.

You should definitely avoid Registry Cleaners, Boosters, Optimizers, TuneUp Utilities... This type of software will do a lot more harm than good. Most members coming here with WEIRD symptoms had their computer messed up by malware and/or registry cleaners. There have been reports from members saying registry cleaners had fixed a specific problem with their computer. Although it might be possible in some cases, legitimate files still in use will be deleted in the process, crippling some programs and Windows applications beyond repair.

Keep in mind that they will always find "errors" to fix, even on a fresh Windows install! In itself, this should be enough to convince non-believers...

Why I Don’t Use Registry Cleaners

Registry Cleaners and System Tweaking Tools

Do I Need a Windows Registry Cleaner?

Hello. I have odd problem. I'm running windows xp home, service pack 2. I just got my laptop back, so had to reinstall everything again on this new hard drive. things were fine at first. then i noticed after i installed the new version of winamp, that my font was messed up. It may not be caused by winamp, but i hadnt noticed the error before that.

when i try to type certain symbols: {}[]<> (the only ones I noticed so far), they often show up as different characters.

It didnt do it when i just put them here, nor in notepad, my firefox address boxes, or character map. but they show up in googletalk, and on my emails, in various programs, etc.

I tried to ask my friend for help, so i took a screencap of it while in googletalk. I'll put the image below, but forgive the spelling, as i did just type it to a friend, during an illness lol

has anyone seen this problem before?

I always knew that by pressing Alt+Caps on the keyboard, I got other symbols when I pressed Caps plus a key, I mean: the symbols you see above the keys that have more than one symbol, such as the upper row of numbers.

Now I'm getting these when I start Windows, so I have to press alt+caps each time I start Windows and so get the "default" symbols.

- not terribly good grammar in that header... sorry!
My problem is in my very long document (92,000 words), into which I've just replaced a font with another, that I downloaded from a reputable site.
I tell you about the reputableness because the problem I'm now experiencing I was having the other day, in a slightly different format...
When I turn on Show/Hide, which I do often, instead of seeing small dots representing character spaces, there are empty squares. (Sorry, I haven't been here for ages, and have forgotten how to post a screen-grab as evidence.)
A couple of days ago, the problem - now gone - was that in tables I was seeing euro signs instead of the little round thinggy with the four prongs.
So I would seem to have some deep-seated... SOMETHING going on, yeah?
Can anyone help, please?

Hi, I'm new here. Thanks for your great site!

I think the specs are close to accurate:
I'm running XP Pro, P4 approx 1.8 ghz processor, 256 mb Ram

Anyway, when I type certain letters in my word processor (or any other program) they work fine, but other letters do some crazy things. Example, pressing 'm' will close the current window.

I recently formatted my hard drive and reinstalled XP and it STILL does this.

I also verified I am using the correct keyboard under Regional Settings (English: United States).

Any suggestions? I am desperate. Thanks.
