Browsers Closing Themselves: "crome.exe" process found

Q: Browsers Closing Themselves: "crome.exe" process found

Spouse showed me her Dell running Win 8.1, said that Chrome was closing itself.
Tried to find security program for scan, learned that it is Windows Defender (I use Win 7 on mine, running MSE).

But in the task list, I found a process called "crome.exe" running at 76% CPU!!!!! (yes, the spelling on that process is correct)

Had to use End Task twice to shut it down.

This all looks fishy to me, which is why I post here. Google search for "crome process" gets no meaningful results

Started running Defender full scan now & not complete.

Told spouse to use IE rather than Chrome for now, and it is shutting itself down just the same.

Appreciate information about what it going on.

Preferred Solution: Browsers Closing Themselves: "crome.exe" process found

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

As a precaution download and run Malwarebytes Free, not the trial version:

What changes when I press the "End Process" button besides the obvious stopping of the process, or likewise if I press "End Process Tree".
The next obvious question is, what is the relationship between a process and a process tree?
(I tried to take a screenshot of the context menu which contains the choices "End Process Tree" and "End Process Tree", but the menu disappears the moment I try to click on anything else.)
I drive a laptop with only a single-core processor and Win 7.  It's so overburdened that, even if I wanted to upgrade to Win 10 or better, I don't have the horsepower to do that, either.
I spend hours trying to get things done, when the CPU Usage reading is at a consistent 100% for several minutes at a time.  There are moments of desperation when I end one of the CPU hogs -- a browser... anti-browser/security package...  most frequently
one/more of the svchost.exe pieces...  by "End Process".  Otherwise I never get the point of meaningful action.  And in these circumstances, it takes even longer if I save file, shut down apps, restart, and bring up everything!
Thus this question!

Neither Firefox nor Internet explorer will start and the error I'm getting is "The procedure entry point SetupDiDestroyDeviceInfoList could not be located in the dynamic link library SETUPAPI.dll". I'm currently on Safari. Also, my AIM and other programs shut down as soon as they start. When I open World of Warcraft it says something about a "trojan-downloader" being on my computer, but I can't get to that point because WoW won't open anymore either. scans reveal nothing, but every so often Norton tells me that a trojan horse has been found and deleted.

I've been having a problem with my browsers (Firefox, Chrome, IE) over the past few weeks, in which every 20 minutes or so they will stop working and all webpages will give me a "server not found" message. However my internet connection itself seems to continue working with all other programs, and simply disabling and re-enabling (via the troubleshooter) my local area connection fixes the problem, for another 20 minutes or so.

The problem seems to be exclusive to my main hard drive and did not persist when I booted from a separate one and used it for an hour or so.

I'm a bit at a loss, and at the moment am treating the problem as a potential virus or malware.

First post so I apologize in advance if I'm missing something obvious or am in the wrong place.

I checked my Processes and I found "servicenow.exe".

Couldn't find anything specific on that .exe searching Google, but there is a website for "ServiceNow". Don't really know what it is or why it's running.

Can't right click/delete the .exe because it says it is being used.
If I try to end the process a message shows up saying:

"Do you want to end the system process "servicenow.exe *32"? Ending this process will shut down the operating system immediately. You will lose all unsaved data. Are you sure you want to continue?"

If I end it after that, I get a BSOD and when the computer restarts, it is still there and running.

I've been surfing the web as usual with no changes in settings, and as of 2 or 3 days ago, I have been bombarded with server not found error messages. I have seen this with Firefox and Google Chrome. I have tried doing a dnsflush in cmd prompt and I changed my settings in firefox to automatically detect network proxy settings. I am hooked up to a wireless router, then to the dsl modem. I have resetted both, and still same results. Any ideas to solve this??

Hi TechGuy,

I'm having some recent problems on my laptop. When I log-in and start using it, the performance starts slowing down. When I look at the Task Manager, I notice that the task called Explorer.exe takes up a lot of my CPU. In a couple of minutes, I also start getting Internet Explorer windows to pop-up on my screen (I normally use Firefox) with advertisements suggesting that my computer is infected and some software downloads that could help. I recently installed McAfee Total Works, or whatever they call their 10-in-1 software which is supposed to do it all. I ran several scans, and on some of them, if did find and disable the Generic.dx trojan. Even though it claims it is doing something, I don't notice any changes - Explorer.exe continues to bog me down, and the IE windows keep popping up to the point that I cannot use my computer effectively anymore.

Microsoft XP-Professional

Any pointers would be truly appreciated!!

I only get the BSOD when playing games, not any specific game, but any, sometime i can go a whole week of playing games and have no BSOD at all, and somedays 5 minutes after a game is running it will BSOD everytime, all day long. When I try to Run any game like GW2 Or Inquisition my pc turns into Bluescreen with an error CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED or KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR ..I've already Updated all my drivers and reinstalled all my games, also run chkdsk /f and memtest with no problems.

This is the screen:

Also this is my dump config:
(note that i have windows 8.1, not 7)

Still it doesn't create any File or Folder and when the BSOD happens the blue screen say that its collecting info but it doesn't get off 0% .
It's the same with the critical process died it just goes to the blue screen saying its collecting info but it also doesn't get off 0%.

I'm completely baffled with what to do as the blue screen view hasn't picked up anything and i cant find the dump files.

I bought a refurbished Dell Optiplex 780 running windows 7 a few days back, was running fine until this morning where I woke up to see the error along the lines of "SATA 1 not found" which is strange as the computer was on sleep mode overnight with no background operations. Tried restarting it several times to receive the message "Boot drive unavailable", looking in the boot menu the drive ID shows on the SATA 1 port. I can't get into safe mode either. Is there anything that can be done or is the drive somehow corrupted? Any help would be appreciated

You may want to check your hard drive to see if it is not disconnected.

A:*RESOLVED* Media Center "Tuner Not Found" error, "Receiver service has stopped"

Okay, I resolved the first two issues, Tuner error and ehrecvr error. It had to do with multiple Admin user accounts on my computer. My computer was originally set up with a user Robert Baker with full privileges as administrator. I then also set up a MediaCenter account with full privilidges. For whatever reason the MediaCenter account has access to EVERY action on the computer except starting the ehrecvr service.1.  First set Media Center Service Launcher to log on at NT Authority    Services > Right-Click Windows Media Center Service Launcher > Properties > Log On tab > Log On As 'This account: ' > Type " NT AUTHORITY/LocalService " > Click Apply > General tab > Start service.2. I then set the Media Center Scheduler Service AND Media Center Receiver Service to log on as my other admin account. Same as above but with other account credentials and started the services.3. Reboot and no ehrecvr errors. Since this was a good sign I tried WMC and was able to set up my TV fine.I STILL, however, get the "Upgrade in progress" message when I open Media Center. Anyone know how to fix that? I've run setup again and can't get rid of it.

Hello, TSG!

Just yesterday I was using the computer normally until I got a Blue Screen. Getting a blue screen is usually something normal that occurs to my every so often, so I didn't mind it and rebooted the computer normally. However, I got two more blue screens within the next hour. The 3rd time rebooting, my computer starts to act strange as if it had a virus. Upon powering up the monitor would just display a black screen with two lines about something --- which I don't remember, sorry --- and stayed like that unless I plugged out the power cord or held on the power button to shut down. Then when after a few tries it boots and displays a message "Floppy Disk Failure" and "Drive 1 not found: Serial ATA, SATA-1" (and the same message for Drives 2 and 3) show up. Also it asks me to continue loading by pressing the F1 Key.

When Windows loads the first time, it displays a message saying a bunch of hardware has just been installed and ready for use. Also, my internal clock resetted itself back to Monday, November 07, 2005 (Which, if I recall, is the date when I got the computer) and my speakers do not work.

TL;DR Version
3 blue screens within a short time
Floppy disk fail
Drivers 1-3 not found: Serial ATA, SATA-1-3

Anyway, I browsed through Google but I haven't seen anyone with both problems. I disabled my Floppy Disk Drive and that message doesn't show up anymore, but the others do and my computer still isn't fixed. I ran a vir... Read more

That dxdiag "no sound card" message is misleading as I've found it says that if no driver OR sound card. I think you're missing the right driver

Also, it would seem from your post you have High Definition (HD) audio. Which means you'll need to find the right High Definition audio driver. (AC97 pre-dates HD audio so the Realtek AC97 couldn't be right)

Try starting on the HP support website HERE and enter your model number or they have a button where they'll try to identify your product and drivers for your model. They should list an HD audio driver there

Hi, just as the question title says, I am having a RunDLL error with the windows dll "streamci.dll".

I am getting this error while trying to install my Audio Drivers on my newly set up XP OS.

During the installation of XP, a couple of files were not copied properly.
because the CD was scratched up pretty badly, but I had no other copy of the CD, I had to just skip and hope windows installed, and was usable...

Are there any tools, that can scan your computer for missing windows DLL's and re-install them?
I have already tried downloading the file streamci.dll from the internet and installing it with

regsvr32 streamci.dll
in the command line, but I get the following error:

"Streamci.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found.

Would downloading and re-installing SP2 from microsoft, possibly fix this problem?

Any Ideas?

last November I installed and ran the Gov't Malware Program by Amnesty Int. called "Detekt".
It found that my PC was infected, with "Ghost": Unfortunately, this program only finds spyware/malware but does not offer any removal tools. I tried running Avast and CCleaner but they were not able to find anything on my Computer, Detekt would still find "Ghost".

Later in 2014 I installed a new Avira Anti Vir program (instead of Avast whih I used before) plus Malwarebytes Anti Malware. All programs were updated. Neither one of these three programs did find anything at the time (to the end of 2014).
Now today (Jan. 5, 2015) I updated and used Malwarebytes and it found "Babylon.A" (a kind of "Ghost", if I understand right) in the "Unlocker" (1.9.2) program files. It was put into quarantine by MWB.

I will try to do as you describe the process, and first post the log files that MWB put out today. My external Hard Disc Drive was connected during the scans.

Please let me know if my Computer is safe now, and if there are any safety measures to take (like , not using old USB sticks, or the like)

Hi All,

I'm having some issues with WinDBG and a crash dump analysis for a Windows Phone 10, so I hope someone could answer this question here.

Background information:
Recently I bought a brand new Lumia 950 XL Dual SIM phone which keeps restarting over and over on a very random basis. After reading several threads it turns out that many people are suffering from the same issue and generic remediation steps are not working
at all. This includes using Windows Device Recovery Tool, turning off certain features such as WiFi & Bluetooth, SD card usage, etc.
After troubleshooting this issue for a while I decided to get on with Field Medic application which clearly indicated a 000000F9 crash. Unfortunately this didn't tell anything too specific so I captured a minidump from the phone and went straight to WinDBG
for further analysis.

Now my issue is that although I can load the crashdump into WinDBG, I'm unable to get the appropriate symbol files as WinDBG is constantly complaining about not finding the required files. I've changed the required sympaths as necessary so I've been trying
to use the official MS online repositories but WinDBG just doesn't want to cooperate and get the files. Unfortunately I couldn't find an offline symbols repository for Windows Phone 10 and therefore I'm stuck with the analysis. The symbols would be required
in order to nail down the root cause making the 0000009F crashes. So far I can only see that this is possibly a driver re... Read more

My computer suddenly lost all of its cookies for sites I frequent.

I updated Windows, updated my HP software (based on a quick Google search), and scanned my entire system with Norton.

Norton says it killed the "Downloader" virus.

My computer is still bringing up the "Generic..." message and when I try to unmute my volume button, it says there are "no active mixer devices available." I'm just waiting for my computer to freeze up again.

Hi, guys. I'm having a heck of a time with setting up my wireless network. I have an old desktop wired to Netgear wgt624 and trying to connect my laptop wireless to share internet connection and files between the two computers. I want to transfer all large files from desktop to laptop so I could burn it on DVDs. I used to be able to share internet connection even though laptop speed was significantly lower than desktop it was o.k. for browsing internet. Settings for router: Network authentication=WPA-PSK, Data encryption=TKIP with network key and don't broadcast ssid. In the process of trying to make file sharing work I changed a couple of settings. I changed automatic IP address to static (copied from desktop), created same usernames for both computers (even though it doesn't ask to set a password for some reason), and made some files and drives "shared". In Windows XP, fully updated, I have several folders full of mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

But all the figures in the "Duration" column appear to be in "hours" and "minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03", but what I want is "minutes" and "seconds".

Any thoughts as to how to change this?

Hi Everyone
I recently did a System Restore on a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit system to correct a strange problem I was having with IE. It seems to have solved the problem, but now Process Explorer is displaying the messages in the screen shot below, and I'm not sure why. The computer is functioning fine, in fact, since the System Restore it is running like new. Is this something I need to worry about? The computer is a pretty old Dell Optiplex 760 with a 3.0GHz CoreII Duo CPU, a 140GB harddrive, with integrated graphics. I'm not sure what other info might be pertinent

I am running Windows XP SP3, fully updated, on an Acer lap top PC.

I have several folders full of .mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. To do this I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

The two new columns appear, but the format of the "Duration" column appears to be "hours:minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03" for most .mp3's, when what I want to see is 'hours:minutes:seconds", e.g. "00:03:45".

This also happens for video files (.avi files), e.g. all my episodes of "Heroes" (sad, I know) have a duration of "00:42" instead of "00:42:xx".

Here are two pictures showing the problem with the .mp3's. The first is of Explorer showing the Duration as "Hours:Minutes":

The second picture is of the properties window of the first .mp3 in the list above:

I copied some .mp3 files to another (old) PC on my home network, and it displayed the duration field correctly:

Also, the properties window correctly shows the duration also:

I'm not the only person to have this problem. I received a private message from a member of another forum where I posted about this problem several weeks ago. That person also has the same problem with the duration field.

The tech guys on that forum were unable to find the source... Read more

I just upgraded from Vista Home Premium to Win7 professional x64 hoping to fix the above mentioned problem. After a complete re-install Im getting the same errors.

Im not sure of the proper terminology here, but during startup the computer does a scan of all hardware and "Volume 0" has a "failed" message.

The odd thing is that sometimes after a few restarts and pointless boot menu visits the computer starts up fine.

I tried windows repair feature by booting from the disk, but when I get to the window where i select the operating system to repair, its empty. Drive C, where the operating system is, is not showing.

I have a feeling that the hard drive itself has gone bad and is very unstable. Please let me know if I'm missing something or we just need to get a new HD.

Thank you

What type of hdd do you have. For example if you have a Seagate drive, there is software you can run to do a diagonostic on the hdd before the operating system boots.
This would be a good idea, especially if you were having same issues when Vista Home Premium was installed first.

Do you have more than one hdd installed. If yes, make sure in BIOS settings, the proper drive is selected for First Boot. And better yet make sure its the only drive attached when booting.

My Vista laptop has worked free from problems for a while but last day when I tried to normally boot it, it said "operative system not found" and "PXE-EX1; media test failure. check cable" and so forth.

And then, when I tried to re-install or perhaps restore Vista, when the "Where do you want to install Windows?" comes up, it says that "No drivers were found", altough they were in some weeks ago.

What should I do? Has my computer gone to inevitable death, or is there anything i can do?

It happened after I used RegCure, i believe that it corrupted my registry and now it cannot find the winsrv. I was wondering how i would go on about fixing it. At the moment I am using a Linux Live CD and I have access to all my files on my hard drives including the windows partition, so if there is a way to revert to old registry settings through that please let me know.

Hello, I've run into a problem with my Windows 7 install. For context, I originally had Windows XP dual booting with Windows 7 because I wasn't sure if I wanted to make the upgrade at the time. Windows XP was on my old 300 GB HDD, while I had Windows 7 on my 1.5 TB HDD (with 83GB allocated into my Windows 7 partition while the rest is used for storage).

Yesterday my 300GB HDD died (R.I.P.), and I realize that along with it, I must have still been using that hard drive for my boot loader. With the drive dead, I can no longer boot into my Windows 7 partition, even though bootrec /scanos reads that it's still there.

My issue is that /fixboot and /rebuildbcd both give me an "element not found" error when attempting them. My Windows installation doesn't appear in the list of installations to repair on my recovery DVDs. I've set the partition as active via Diskpart and Partition Wizard, but it still refuses to boot. It used to be a logical partition, but I set it to primary with Partition Wizard, so it should be fine.

I have executed the automatic startup repair option 6 times, and my installation still isn't listed under my repair DVD. The repair informs me that my Partition Table is corrupted, and that Windows should work after a restart, or repair will try again next restart. However, Windows is not repaired and automatic repair still doesn't fix anything. It's rather frustrating, because I know for a fact my files are all there and unharmed, but there's simply no w... My office just upgraded, and I can no longer use Windows XP. On this system, I was able to add a separate taskbar to facilitate quick access to commonly-browsed folder locations on our vast network, and another one expedited the launching of useful programs and lists. Each task on each taskbar was represented with a big custom icon to save eye strain. I had them installed in opposite vertical margins, and they were set on auto-hide to keep them out of the way when not being used. Just move your mouse pointer to the left or right margin, and BAM! Sorry for the cliche, but I really got used to the convenience of what I had set up, and I just don't think I can be as efficient without anything comparable.

Now there appears to be nothing comparable in the Windows 7 GUI, and it's making me sick with rage! I see only the option to put a "toolbar" on an existing "taskbar", and no option to create any additional taskbars! This cramps up your one-and-only taskbar, plus the tiny toolbar access buttons require way too much precision for anything that's supposed to be quick. When you've figured out how to bring up that ridiculous button, the list that it yields is small enough to cause painful eyestrain - nothing efficient, much less cool about this at all! I have seen customization options in other OS GUIs that may have resolved some of these issues, but I see none such in W7.

I have tried every google search string that I can think of, and found... Read more

A:Win 7 x64 0x19 BSOD When closing "Kerbal Space Program"

Hi webbwbb.

Your Crash dump is not showing any probable finite cause.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.
If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.
Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

If these two tests comes without any issue, enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

If you fail to get on the Desktop because of DV, Boot into Advanced Boot Options > Safe mode. Disable DV there. Now boot normally again, and try following the instruction of enabling DV again.

So I have an iPod and external hard drive connected by USB.

My Dell only recognizes these devices maybe 50% of the time or so, unless I start with the iPod connected, which will work fine. If I start with the external hard drive connected, it isn't recognized until I reconnect it.

I had USB recognition problems, and Dell sent me a new motherboard for my Inspiron E1705, which I installed myself successfully. Now my computer recognizes my printer consistently, but the hard drive and iPod are iffy.

I disregarded this and tried to add more music to my iPod. At first, it was giving me disc writing errors. Later on, it would either freeze or only add a small portion of the songs.

So I started fiddling around with the order things were connected, and now My Computer freezes when I open it. I restarted my laptop, tried a diagnostic in iTunes (with the iPod attached at startup, which opened iTunes, then closed iTunes so I could turn on my external hard drive where my music is stored, reopened iTunes where music worked by iPod wasn't being recognized by iTunes), and it said I was having iPod connection problems.

I went to the apple site and followed their instructions by closing the iPod Service in the services menu of My Computer management. When checking My Computer to see if Windows recognized the iPod as a disc, My Computer froze yet again, causing my Start toolbar and desktop icons to disappear when trying to end the task.

Is there any setting to tweak , which will display all the 3 options for HTML attachments as well?

As you know, the Open-Save-Cancel dialog box helps you prevent your computer from affecting by virus while downloading.

However, since you can normally download the other documents, I suspect there is some restriction in the website which you are trying to view. I recommend you to contact the administrator of that website if possible.

Hello there,

Which i just did ten minutes and one required restart ago.
I use a Dell inspirion 1525 laptop, all hardware is the same as it shipped with, my operating system is vista home basic 32-bit, which is also shipped whith the machine.
I have the latest drivers available from the dells support page. Vista is also updated itself a few hours ago.
I also tried to istall the Mobile Intel? 965 Express Chipset Familydrivers downloaded from intels homepage, but it wouldt let me install them.

Another issue i have is that vista just minimize the game (happens with fullscreen ones), and whenever i wabt to turn them back fullscreen, vista minimizes them again onto the tray...
Why is it doing that???

We are a small company with about 20 users connecting to a terminal server.

here is the problem:
current user profiles will run the first time log on installers ex "setting up settings for IE 6" or the office user configuration wizard. these are long time users who have already done this a wile ago.

a user will log on to the terminal server, in this case the system admin, they will start outlook 2000, do what they need to do, then upon closing, the dialog box: "please wait wile outlook closes" hangs

However; when a new user profile is made, the installers do not run and the outlook closing box goes away in about 3 seconds. all the applications are running fine. this has been going on since the original install of the server

it would be best if we didn't shut it down, users log into it 24 hours a day (we provide a 24 service) I do however have an idea how to get around this problem, but it doesn't fix the problem. I would like to know what is going on with it to maybe implement a better solution
