IdeaPad Z710 battery NOT detected, not charging

Q: IdeaPad Z710 battery NOT detected, not charging

I would not have bothered making an account here if I could have found a fix otherwise. The battery is not charging AND it is not detected. I want to stress this because I have seen a million and one webpages for batteries that were plugged in but not charging. Mine is not detected. I have checked my power settings, I have done a power drain (take out batter and adapter, hold power button), I have restarted, I have looked for updates, and I have uninstalled the two battery things in the device manager and restarted again. I did NOT do battery gauage reset because the battery is not detected (I have Windows 8, so Energy Manager rather than Power Manager). I have not touched the BIOS because I'm wary of anything else going wrong. I bought this laptop in December. It is quite new, still under warranty, and even though I use it every day, it is still good and not bogged down or worn down in any way. I have had multiple problems since buying it, even a few right out of the box (shame on you, Lenovo), all of which I was able to fix myself. I can't imagine why I would have whatever problem I am having right now. For a short while after this problem initially occurred, I was still able to unplug the laptop and move to another outlet. So it's like the battery was actually detected. But once the battery charge ran out, I couldn't unplug anymore without immediate shutdown. Considering everything I have already tried, is it possible that the battery is bad? Can anyone help me? I have not been able to find a fix. And literally, as I have been typing this, my battery was suddenly detected and is now charging again. But I am not satisfied, I want to know why this problem occurred and how to fix it if it happens again, as I suspect it will. Now that the battery is detected again, should I do a battery gauge reset? I don't have a problem with battery life, so I don't know whether that woud be a good idea.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It has now happened again. All I did was unplug my laptop for about an hour.

My Lenovo ideapad Z710, after a year of use started telling me the battery was not the correct battery.  I thought the battery might have died.  I eventually bought a replacement battery.  The new battery gets the same message.  My wife has a different model but uses the same battery.  My OEM battery does not function in her machine but the new one does.  So it appears that my machine has a problem recognizing the proper battery.  Once I accept the message, the machine boots and runs fine plugged in.  The battery does not charge so I assume the machine is protecting itself from improper battery.  The new battery is a DR.BATTERY Notebook battery with a two year warranty.  When I was shopping for the battery, there were numerous suppliers and of course they all claimed to have only the highest quality that meets or exceeds the original battery specs. Does anyone know a solution?  Could it be a software problem?  I had assumed it was a hardware problem.  The computer works fine as desktop machine, but with no battery it is pretty worthless as a portable.

HiI've just now replaced the battery of my ideapad z500 with a new one but it seems not chargin... My system is Windows 10. I've updated "Lenovo Energy Management Driver" (for win 8.1) and "Advanced Configuration and Power Management Interface (ACPI) Driver" (for Win 10) but when I've restarted the laptop the issue persist. The Windows 10 bar shown me this message: 0% and batteri not charging. When the laptop is turned off and the AC is plugged in I don't see the power button led light up like I remember (maybe I am not remembering well I don't know, but maybe it is usefull to diagnose the problem). Do you have any advice on what can I do to solve this issue?Thenks

It says the battery will be fully charged after 5 mins. But even charging up to 2 hours it still says the same. Also, the battery is draining very fast, it comes at 89% from 95% within 3-4 mins. Please suggest something.

Battery is not being charged.  When I disconnect the battery and leave the AC adapter plugged in and switch on, should the tablet work.  If it doesn't (my case) does this point to the AC circuit being faulty?  If the unit is plugged in but left for a while the battery will charge up, but very slowly. It was left for 24 hours like this and only had 33% charge.

A:Ideapad Battery not charging

Hi PandyO,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

What is the model or machine number of your laptop?

The machine should turn on without the battery and directly plug the charger.
It would be best to follow the "Power check out guide" from the hardware manual which you can download from here on the support site.

It would also help if you have a spare charger to test with aside from using a voltmeter.

Update us how it goes.

is it possible to run this laptop without the battery pack? my last laptop  had a removable battery but this model appears to be fixed? there are screw fixings but im not sure if these will detach anything, would welcome any information on this.
when the battery is fully charged can the adapter remain plugged in? or should i remove it? i was wondering if there is a cut out for when full charge is reached or it just keeps charging as i use it, this is why removable battery packs were standard a few years ago and the laptop could run off the mains with the charger plugged in, i would rather do this than eventually have to replace a worn battery later on at more cost etc,
thanks for your help in advance

A:ideapad 110 - Battery charging question

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

As you found out, the battery for your model is not removable by the consumer.  A simple solution to your problem if you are using Windows 10, which I'm guessing you have, is to use the Lenovo Settings app.  One of the options of Lenovo Settings is Conservation Mode.  That mode will maintain the battery at a 50 to 60% charge level which will allow you to power the laptop by the adapter without continually charging the battery.  The Lenovo Settings app is available in the Windows 10 Store if you do not have it installed already.  Just search the store on the word Lenovo to easily find it.

Once in Lenovo Settings just click on the battery icon on the left menu.  A new screen will open on the right and in the middle of that screen will be Conservation Mode.  Just enable it.  In the event you need a 100% charge to go portable with the laptop, just disable Conservation Mode.

Basically, my laptop's probably about 3 years old now, and as expected, the battery that came with the laptop reduced itself to a state of no charging. As a result, I bought myself a new battery because the laptop itself works perfectly fine. The first day I got the battery, I had the issue of the battery being not detected, but I fixed it through going into Device Manager, uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, and then scanning for hardware changes, and it worked an absolute dream, percentage and time remaining were spot on. I then didn't use the laptop for about a month, and when I turned it on, it will either give me "Plugged in and not charging" or "No battery is detected" and there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to which one appears... I thought it might just be a simple fix again my doing the uninstalling and scanning for changes, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything at all! It's an Advent 9915W that I'm running, with all the specs below.

I have an IdeaPad 500.  The A/C charger is "plugged in" and the icon says it is "charging" but there is no charge to the battery, which is now at 53% (it was 55% yesterday).   I have gone to the forum and done what they suggest (e.g. turned off the Conservation Mode).  Unlike most questions on the forum, my system says "charging" rather than "not charging".  And because it is an IdeaPad, I cannot remove the battery (at least not without opening up the case).  I am a bit worried this is a hardware/battery failure -- but I hope this forum might give me a software fix

I've been having issues with my battery. If I unplug the charging adapter, my laptop immediately shuts off. The battery would stay at 0% and say "plugged in, not charging". I figured the problem was the battery so I replaced it. I still have the exact same problem but the battery percentage is 54%. It neither drains nor charges. I've tried reverting my power options to their default settings. My drivers were up to date. I've uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. And in advanced power settings I've tried restoring default settings and also changing reserver battery level for on battery and plugged in from 7% to 100%. Despite all this I still have the same initial problem.

Hello,I know there is a few post on this particular issue and I will list what I have attempted to do.1. Deleting the charging driver (and also AC Adapter)2. Pulling the plug using windows+b+power3. Updating bios to latest.4. Checked all the wall outlets in my house.5. Used Hp Assist Center/Bios to check battery status.I keep hitting error 601 mainly and have hit error 502 on boot.  In the HP battery checker the both batteries are not detected which is weird.  It's like the battery is not plugged in because both batteries are grayed out, is there any reason why this should be?  I'm really hoping I dont have to replace the  battery or it is covered under the "battery recall" I saw on the hp site somewhere.  This laptop is hardly used by my mother as she really has only been using it for work for the past year-year and a half, I would say nothing over 200 charge cycles.Thank you!

Hello, I got the Lenovo ideapad 110 near a month ago, I liked it a lot, until many problems started happening and it ticked me off a lot. The main problem with this computer is the battery life. I looked up what the average battery life for this computer was, it said approximately 3 to 4 hours. And it is hard to believe that because at fully charged, the battery life says it is 2 hours, but runs out quicker than that. The charging speed, I was at 0% with this computer, and it said that to be at fully charged, it would have to take nearly 3 hours! What??? I researched online if there was any way to replace a more long-lasting battery or to see if there are some ways to save/improve the battery life. What I got were ways to save more battery, but none of it worked, they don't make a difference. Lowering the brightness, probably only saves 5 minutes of your battery, and that's the most I could really do (out of all the ways showed in the support page), since I never use bluetooth, etc. Really need some help, would really appreciate some better ways to saving more of the battery, or if there is a way to replace the battery in this computer with a bigger life. But I strongly dislike the problems with most Lenovo computers, thinking of returning/exchaniging it. Thanks for your time.

A:Brand New Ideapad 100s 14IBR battery not charging

Well, The battery most likely is Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) and either have been a production defect; or have not been properly charged at the factory; or have been drained completely, been sitting for a long time, then as a result have suffered damages to the chemical bits inside. You may have to return only the battery to the store (If accessible to remove form outside/If not internal) , unless they tell you to bring something else in addition. Sincerely Cklone.

Initially my device was working just fine. Of late though (I don't know exactly when) I've noticed that only the internal battery discharges - then takes me to low power, plug in your charger, without discharging the external battery. I've installed all the latest updates for drivers and BIOS. With the laptop plugged in, the external battery is charging. But when I disconnect the AC it tells me the internal battery is 'in use' and gives me an estimated battery life based only on the single internal battery.

I have an IdeaPad Y550P (bought in 2010) running on Windows 10 and I recently ordered a new battery for it but it wont charge. The seller first suggested that I uninstall MS ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and rescan for hardware changes in Device Mgr. When that didnt work the seller said the laptop's BIOS needs to be udpated. I cant log into BIOS as I dont know the password even though I am the only owner of this laptop. I then went to Lenovo's support page but it doesnt even have this model listed there anymore to check for udpates. I downloaded Lenovo's system update tool and it says 'no packages applicable to your system were found.' This is a Lenovo computer so surely there must be some updates available. Hello, I have a 3 yr old Ideapad Z510(that came with Win8)which worked absolutely fine until recently. If I plug in the charger when the laptop is on, it abruptly turns off and would never boot again until I remove the charger. However, this is not how it behaves every time. There are some rare instances where I could still operate the machine with charger plugged in.  When turned off, battery is charging and also goes to full 100%. When turned on(battery mode) it does not drain rapidly - I could still get a fairly decent stand up time. So I am assuming the battery is good. I don't see any thermal issues either. Things I tried:-------------- > Tried with a different charger - no help.> Updated the firmware - no help.> Update the entire driver pack - no help.> Applied windows patches, reinstalled and also upgraded windows to Win 10 - no help.> Reseated the battery and associated cables - no help.  I am not sure if there is anything that I could do to at least diagonize the problem before I give it to the service station. Any pointers on this is much appreciated   Thanks much in advance.

Hello BillD55Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)1. Turn the unit off2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter5. Turn the unit on as normal
Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

Hello. First of all, thank you for taking the time to view my post and potentially help me out. So the problem is that my laptop will not start. I was using my laptop here one day and it was working fine, but it was unable to charge for some reason and ended up shutting down so I went to bed. The next morning I tried turning it on, but it was dead. I have tried a different charger as my sister also has a lenovo laptop, but this did not work either. I would think if the battery was the problem, the laptop should still be working with the charger in? I have tried calling support line several times with no answer, the warranty has gone out and I forgot where i bought the laptop sadly. Really frustrated over here, and any help is highly appreciated!
