D-link DI-264 Power Cycle without Factory Reset?

Q: D-link DI-264 Power Cycle without Factory Reset?

I haven't used a d-link in a long time and I'm just wondering if I can power cycle a DI-264 without resetting the router to factory default settings. I just pull the power plug for 30 seconds correct?

Preferred Solution: D-link DI-264 Power Cycle without Factory Reset?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: D-link DI-264 Power Cycle without Factory Reset?

Yes, pulling the plug on any router should not erase any of its settings. You would have to use the reset switch to clear the settings or the option within the router menus to restore it to factory defaults.

Hi, i recently purchased a d-link router, so i could have a wireless router. Ive got it up and running, but having some problems with letting others to connect! I know what the problem is, i just dont know how to solve it!
The router is currently connected in port 1, which makes the ip adress messed up, and i can only have one other pc connect to the network, and that computer has to type in my DNS adress, because the router will not accept ip adresses automaticly. However this can be sold if i connect the router in the Wan port. But when i do this i loose my connection, it just get limited connection. and to fix this i have to go into the admin panel, which i cant connect to! Have tried by wireless and with cable, with no luck.

If i reset my router to factory settings, this will be solved. But the router wont reset, ive tried reseting it for 30 secs with power on, but it just restarts and the settings are the same, have also tried this with power off!

What am i doing wrong?

Please help

I'm trying to rest my D-Link DWL-2100AP to factory settings so that I can put a WEP key on the wireless and gain router control... I followed the D-Link page on resetting the range of models that includes mine to no avail. I held down the button for 10 seconds, and waited a bit. Yet I still can't connect to the router's supposed default IP ( I also tried a large range of other router IPs that I have previously used on it.

Additionally, all the sites say to wait for the WLAN light to stop blinking. I waited... and waited... and waited... Didn't stop.

Any ideas?

A:D-Link DWL-2100AP won't reset to factory defaults.

It's not a router. Nonetheless, its default IP is and if it won't reset to factory default settings it is defective. My only suggestion is to unplug it for several hours and then try the reset to factory defaults again.

I had a virus or a bug on my comuter so I thought I would just factory reset it and would just get all my suff back over time because I won't lose much. But while it was reintalling windows 10, my power went out and when i turned it back on it would go throuh the booting process with ACER on the screen the just black for two days strait. Then I tried to Google a way to fix it and it told me to hit Shift and F10 to get to a menu and change a setting from 1 to 3. (Sorry, I actually don't remember what thing I changed.) Now I can't find what web site I went to and when I turn my computer on it boots up through the two ACER screens then a screen that says 64% donlowded pops up for a second or two then it restarts and it dose it all again.Thats the story behind it, and I was woundering if a new copy of windows would work or is my hard drive to messed up and I need a new one, or any other advise anyone has would be helpfull. Thank you for your time,AJ

So basically my computer has ceased to function on the latest windows 10 update, 100% disk usage is occurring at all times leaving the computer inoperable and I've found that reverting it to factory settings and not updating fixes that. Well the other night I clicked on update and shut down accidentally rather than sleep. I immediately went to factory reset it again and it finished and put me at the setup screen, at that point my power went out. Upon turning the computer back on it came up with the screen That shows the windows logo and has a loading circle, let this "load" for about 2 hours before shutting the damn thing off and rebooting. It takes me back to the same screen where I proceed to give it 8 hours, finally it takes me to a screen that says administrator and has another loading circle, I have now been on this screen for an additional 8 hours. I have no Idea what to do at this point, I have tried to reinstall windows from a DVD and from a USB but for some reason it tells me to insert actual boot media, I have tried multiple different win 7 and 10 isos on dvds and usbs and none will work. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I fear this os is slowly taking my sanity. Thanks.

2 quick and easy's :

Say your working with a modem, router, and laptop.
-When doing a power cycle to refresh your settings, in which order is the correct way or does it matter?

Also when resetting a router, linksys wrt54g, which is the correct way to reset the router while keeping your security settings you've already set.

A:Power Cycle

If you are just trying to reestablish your high speed internet connection I am not sure it matters.

Generally I have been told to power off the modem for a couple of minutes and then turn it back on. At most, I have turned off the modem, turned off the computer waited, then restarted the modem and rebooted.

The router is generally less of an issue, but if you want to make sure, then unplug the router and plug it back in when you turn the modem back on.

If you are having a different problem with the modem or the router, then give us more specifics about your problem and someone can probably help you.

I have a power on problem. When I hit the soft start power on button the LEDs on the front panel and on the mother board light up. The lights stay on for about 5 seconds and then the unit shuts off. About one second later it tries to start again with the same result. It will do this forever. I've measured the +5 VDC and +12 VDC at the peripheral connectors and they are correct when the LEDs are on and they go to zero when the unit shuts off.

During the on period nothing shows on the monitor.

I had the power supply tested and the +5 volts was slightly out of spec (+5.4 VDC), so I replaced the power supply with no change in behavior. The power switch works as expected, when pressed it closes at the mother board pin connector.

Also I've disconnected all peripheral devices, hard drives and CD/DVD drives etc. with no change in behavior.

I'm running a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R motherboard and an Intel Quad Core i7-920 processor.

It would seem that I'm down to either the motherboard or processor. Can anyone shed additional light on this. I'm puzzled as to why the motherboard keeps trying to start without the soft power button closed even though the power supply has shut off.

I have cable internet service with comcast. They provided me with a Motorola Surfboard SB5101 modem, I purchased a Belkin Wireless G router so that I could use my latop arond the house (compaq v4000 w/windows xp). I've had minor problems with the setup since i got it. At first I had to "Power Cycle" (unplug the modem and router, wait a few mintes and plug them back in) several times a day, because the internet would just stop working.

It would still say that i was connected to my network and everything was fine but it wouldnt work. If i power cycled the devices though it would work again.

About 2 months ago that changed and I only had to unplug everything every 2 days or so, still to often but i was willing to deal with it.

A few days ago it went back to the initial state. I have to unplug eveything like 8 times a day because I loose my connection (although it still says im connected) several times a day for no apparent reason. Particularly when i close the laptop or leave it sitting a while, although it deffinetly happens at other times as well.

Comcast wont talk to me about anything with my router because i didnt get it through them at a high mark up, PLUS a monthly fee!!! They will only say that my modem works when i hook it directly to the computer so tough luck with everything else. Belkins tech support tried but i got guys who dont know much more than i do. It's not clear to me where the connection is lost--modem? Router? PC?

Since the connection is not lost when the PC is connected to the modem, I'm guessing that the problem is the router dropping the connection or, more likely, the PC losing the wireless connection. If the latter, the most common cause is wireless interference, especially from 2.4Ghz cordless phones.

If you disable the router's wireless signal and run with modem to router to PC via ethernet, do you still get the disconnects?

Hi guys,

I'm hoping someone can throw me a bone here, since I don't know which way to go with this.

Basically, power surge last night, my PC now goes into an endless reboot cycle whenever turned on.

I cannot start it in safe mode, as it hangs on the list of files. Can't start in Last known good, can't boot from CD, as it will get as far as 'Checking hardware configuration' and then reboot.

So essentially I can do nothing at all. I guess it's obvious some hardware is fried, but I can't afford to replace things at random- any suggestions on likely causes, or ways I can narrow it down?

I am running the Dell XPS8300 on Win 10. Occasionally when I first start up or during a period of hibernation the computer will go into an unending cycle of fan ON and after 2-secs OFF. This repeats continuously until I hold the power button down for 10-secs and then disconnect the power cord for 30-secs. If I then hold the power button down for a second or so until the activity light illuminates then release everything boots perfectly. During sleep or hibernation the same thing occasionally happens and the only way to recover is to hold down the.n power button for 10-secs and disconnect the power cord. What's going on and can it be fixed by someone technically challenged  :-)?

A:XPS8300 Continuous power cycle on start

Thanks for writing to us.
XPS 8300 is not tested for Windows 10, but you can try these steps, it may or may not work.

Use the standard Start Menu > Power > Shutdown, you may think your computer is totally shut down, but it is not. Windows 10 can perform various maintenance functions while your computer is in this supposed "shutdown state". If your laptop is off AC power during this period, you will definitely notice a drain in the battery. One option you can use is to set up a desktop shortcut for a full shutdown. It should contain the following:
       shutdown /s /t 0
That is "shutdown" space "/s" space "/t" space "0" [zero]. The zero indicates the number of seconds to wait before shutdown.

From what I understand, when you click on any of the shutdown links, the computer goes into what is known as a "hybrid" shutdown, not a full shutdown. It saves information from your current login and allows you to start up faster the next time you turn on your computer (known as "fast startup"). The other complication is the "automatic maintenance" that Windows 10 has set up. This has an option to wake up your computer to perform this maintenance. There is a good article on this here for turning that off:
The other option would be to shut off "fast startup". This should then allow a full shutdown.

The steps are provided by one of... Read more

Since I don't want to keep my external hard drive constantly powered on, I normally turn its power switch off after "safe to remove.." confirmation. The problem is that when I switch the power back on the drive often (but not always) fails to connect and USBDeview confirms that the USB 2.0 is not connected. The only way I can get a connect is by cycling the power switch, sometimes 2 or 3 times, but I think that's a poor solution. Once connected, the drive works fine.

I'm looking for a software solution that would retry or force the USB connect (restarting the OS is unacceptable). Perhaps something in the system software (Windows XP, home, SP3)? Other software that would do the job?

Thanks for any ideas.

Whenever I turn off my computer or let it sleep for a decent period of time, pressing the power button on my case causes the fans to spin for a second then they stop. Well you are using the wrong power supply for you system so I'd start there. 430 watt power supply is pretty low for high-end system and it's a basic power supply for basic systems even according to the manufacturer: http://www.corsair.com/en-ca/cx430-80-plus-bronze-certified-power-supply
Realistically you should have a 600 watt or higher unit and from a series designed for high stress such as the Corsair TX, HX, or AX lines or a higher end Seasonic power supply.

Hi All,

I've been dealing with BSOD's for a while and have never been able to find the cause. Sometimes the computer will BSOD and restart fine and run for a little while and BSOD again. Sometimes it will BSOD and then refuse to start, just power cycling before the BIOS screen even comes up.

To fix this I usually wait 24 hours or I've realized I can remove one stick of RAM and that also tends to fix it. I can add the RAM back later and it will work again for a while until the next BSOD.

Other times it will run for days no problem.

I also tried running verifier as instructed on this site and the computer would BSOD on boot for wdf01000.sys. The other BSOD s typically had an error regarding IRQ, but lately it's been different things I can't recall the new errors just that they're no longer IRQ.

I've tried testing the memory with Memtest so I think it could be the motherboard, but I'd like to confirm with some people who know more than me before I go through the whole hassle of RMA'ing it.

Hi all,

I hope someone can help with this problem as it is driving me slightly mad… I apologise if this is not in the right part of the forum but I couldn’t find a section that it seemed to fit into.

Firstly I’ll give you my set up details for some background:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64
EVGA Nvidia 560 TI
HP 1080p monitor

Onkyo TX NR414

LG 42LW550T

The computer is connected to both the HP monitor (by DVI) and the Onkyo Receiver (DVI to HDMI cable). The receiver is then connected to the LG HDTV. Windows is set to duplicate the display on both screens, the resolution is set to 1080p 60hz which is meant to be the native resolution for both the monitor and the HDTV.

The problem I am having is that, when using the computer on the TV, it will sometimes cause the TV to power cycle (go into standby and then turn on again).

I also have a Sky HD box and Xbox 360 connected and never experience this issue with either of them, so I assume it must be computer related.

The main time this happens is within XBMC whilst watching a video, the screen will freeze (I can still hear sound), the TV power cycles and then comes back on. However, this has also happened whilst using the Dolphin Emulator and watching a game trailer in Steam (in Big Picture mode).

I have tried updating the video card drivers, rolling them back etc… but the problem persists. I have also tried different HDMI cables and HDMI ports etc...

I can only assume that some... Read more

A:Windows 7 64 causing HDTV to power cycle (turn off and on)

Hmm, another update.

This has now happened whilst watching TV via the Sky HD box. However, it only ever happens when the PC is also connected to the receiver.

Interestingly, at the same time as the TV power cycled the PC monitor went black and the computer beeped as though a device had been unplugged. The problem is I don't know whether the TV turning off caused the computer to do this or whether it is the computer losing connection that is causing the HDTV to turn off then on again...

Firstly, I apologize in advance for using any incorrect terminology because I'm not the most tech savvy individual and my knowledge in the area of computers is limited. My wifi is dropping with a frequency of every 30 minutes to 3 hours. When it does drop, the wireless internet drops across the board, and any and all devices with wifi functionality are not able to access the internet. I do not experience this wireless connectivity problem with my laptop while I'm at school or at my friend's house. The wireless network doesn't repair itself, and I always have to intervene. While the wifi network is in this condition, I have run Windows 8.1 manual diagnostics in an attempt to troubleshoot the issue. It passes everything but the ping test. The Windows manual diagnostic result is always "No response: default gateway DHCP server." Also, I'm sometimes able to use the "identify and repair network problems" in Windows to temporarily resolve the issue. This does sometimes fix this issue, but when it doesn't, it spits out "Wifi doesn't have valid IP configuration." I have a Samsung SCX-4826FN printer that I bought refurbished and I did not take it out of the box until several months later because of lack of space and I was still using my old printer. Anyway I have bought things from this website before and never had a problem so I thought all would be fine with the printer when I took it out. I know it is all my fault and now I need a fix that I can do myself. However I can not find help for my problem and the books say send the printer in for repair but I hope it is something you can help me with

I turn on the printer and all it say is
System Error
Cycle Power
There is a solid red light on the status area.

I have tried to Press MENU # 1 9 3 4 in sequence rapidly. The LCD panel should now display TECH.

But it will not do anything. I can hit copy and you can hear something scanning or something going on but it does not even try to take the paper it just sits there after printing. That is all it will do.

Please tell me what to do for the system error cycle power red status light?

After power cycling the desktop. Windows 10 says "no boot device found". I was able to see files in the DOS prompt from recovery options. The boot diagnostics all passed also. Restoring from a system restore point taken several days ago didn't change anything -- i.e. Win 10 still didn't find a boot device.
Any suggestions? I'd call Dell support but the warranty expired 3 months ago (of course).

I added a new 36Gbyte Fujitsu SCSI disk to my system. It already had a 9.1Gbyte Western Digital as the "C" Drive running win98se. The controller is an Adaptec AHA-2940W/AHA-2940UW PCI SCSI device with driver "Microsoft V2.21a 4-23-1999".

Using my win98 or DOS commands, I performed the fdisk and format E: /s (D was a partition on the original drive). Everything appeared to be good, I was able to load the new Windoes XP Pro software on the disk and performed multiple reboots in the process. Here is the problem! Once you power cycle the system, the new disk is not recognized as "ready" by the SCSI Controller and all the configuration appears to have been destroyed! Please help!

basically, i am forced to use comcast. when its working, the internet works great and i can't complain. however, sometimes i can go couple days without any drops. other times it will drop 3-5 times a day sometimes twice within an hour. so i swapped out the modem to a new motorola SB5101 and i still have the same problem. i logged into the modem doing the typical and pulled up the logs and this is what i get (note: the error coincides with time internet drops):

Code Description
E107.0 SW upgrade Failed after download - Incompatible SW file
E102.0 SW Download INIT - Via Config file d11_m_sb5100_silver_c01.cm
R002.0 No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out
E102.0 SW Download INIT - Via Config file d11_m_sb5100_silver_c01.cm
E107.0 SW upgrade Failed after download - Incompatible SW file

and it just repeats with E102 and E107 error with dates and time matching to my problems. does ANYONE know how to fix this? i would call comcast but i have a feeling the guy would be like what log? now fixing the problem is simple, i just powercycle everything and it starts working again. please help me im being tortured.

My problem is almost identical to this thread http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic121358.html
I am putting a new video card (HD 4650) into the system in my sig.
Uninstalled drivers, put new card in, plugged in power supply and the CPU and GPU fans started for 2 to 3 second, than stoped, started again and stopped, they continued to cycle on and off without me ever pressing my cases power button.
I had to put the power cord the get the fans to stop cycling.
Then I removed the video card and the booted the computer using the integrated graphics and everything worked fine.
Is the start up power draw from the video card is to much for my Dell 305w PSU? Maybe the PSU can't supply enough power, which would explain why removing the card fixes the problem.
I tried removing two of my computer's four RAM stick and reinserting the video card, but the fans would still endlessly cycle until I pulled the power cord.

What should I do?
Should I get a new power supply?
I measured the current PSU and it is a weird size:
~3 7/8" tall (9.8 cm)
~5 1/2" long (13.8 cm)
~6" deep / width (14.7 cm)
Voltage and such... 305W
+5V = 22A
+12VA = 18A
+12VB = 18A
-12V = 1A
+3.3V = 17A
+5VSB = 2A
combined max 12VA and 12VB = 22A

I saw this PSU... at newegg
Any help, comments suggestions? Do you think it really is the psu or am I barking up the wrong tree?

P.S. I just noticed that the HD 4650 box and newegg page recommend a 400w power supply, so I guess the power supp... Read more

I'm having issues with a MSI CR 600 with windows 7, I saved all my photos and files that I wanted to keep. I then proceeded to do a factory reset and the counter is still counting at just over 600 minutes. I don't have a boot disk for it, I'm just wondering if it normally takes this long or longer? Any help would be appreciated.
