My wife's laptop is acting crazy. It's been working fine, then the other night the screen starting blinking and became unreadable. It would just blink a ton and flash on and off. She took it in the next day to her work to the tech guys there and it worked fine. Today the same issue. I was able to get it to start in Safe Mode and it works just fine. Trying to start in regular mode it starts out just fine, then goes to blinking/flashing, etc.

Any ideas? Sorry I can't give more details, but that is as good a description as I can give!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Recently I recieved by mail my brother's laptop to fix, since I`m the "smart" guy inthe family everyone is pushing me with IT or Electronic choirs...anyway, it`s not why I`m here. The laptop has a broken screen, I tried to attach the laptop to another monitor via VGA but didn`t wor, no image at all. So I`m wondering if the mainboard is bustedm since I don`t know if I should order a new display for it or just toss it in the garbage can. The colored leds are on when I start it, no booting sound, but the HDD is working, so is the dvd-rw, I mean it takes commands, all the buttons work, I mean restart and power.is there a chance that the mainboard is bustend and I still have power on cpu/optical device/storage?

Thanks for the answer

Hello my name is Gringoyle

Let me start from the very begining, I was play Ever Quest 2 when my key board started acting up i found that it was my mouse, when my mouce was in movement the keyboard was inop so if was to use the (W,A,D,S) keys to navigate than use the mouce to move the cursor i would stop movment.

So I decided to test the mouce in safe mode, I and made a big mistake by using msconfig to do so. Well it started an endless loop of chrashing when windows would boot causing the loop to start over. I can however use F8 still which i did to to try and repair my system, it recommended that I use the recovery, that had failed. I than used the F8 last knowen good configuration option to start windows and I am running again, I than when to change the settings in msconfig i had made but i am unable to. When in msconfig under the general tab the "Selective Startup" is selected, under the boot tab the options are normal, safe mode is not selected. However if I select the Normal Startup option under the general tab the safe mode box becomes check under the boot tab and if I uncheck the safe boot box, the Selective Startup option is than selected again under the general tab.

And my dang mouce is still causing the keyboard to be inop when in use.

Thank for any advice you fellas can offer me,

I video conference speeches and process them to VCD format. I capture video on miniDV tape or directly on computer using 1394 (firewire) port. I take audio seperately from mixer into computer using 'audacity' or 'accoustica' program. I use Ulead Video Studio 8 to match video & audio and then process it. These 2 streams match well in the begining, but then these go out of sync by upto 5 sec. Need help urgently.

Using Core2Duo desktop, 4 GB DDR2 RAM (800MHz FSB), SATA Hard Disk 7200 rpm.

A:Audio-video out of sync in video processing in Ulead Video Studio

The problem is that the framerates are a little bit different and there is no keyframe info for each to keep themselves in sync.

In fact some media companies deliberately introduce keyframe errors so that conversion prgrams and the like don't keep the video and audio in sync.

I'm still waiting for a good solution myself but at least you know you're not the only one with the problem by a long shot.

There should be a Firewire (otherwise called IEEE 1394 or DV Link) port on the camera, it looks like a mini USB port. Using a Firewire cable, connect this port to the Firewire port on your laptop or PC. If your PC has no Firewire port, you can add one by buying a PCI Firewire card.

i use vista 64-bit and the media player that came with it plus a codec package from windows. for the past 2 years i have been very happy with it with no problems what so ever. however now, without downloading any patches, my media player has decided it won't play certain videos.

i have some music videos and some films that i have downloaded and they still play just fine. but the ones i have ripped with DVD Fab (i own them btw) have since stopped working properly. they play audio but there is no video. when i play in full screen, instead of getting black like before, i get the same visualisations as if i was viewing an mp3 (the vortex/battery thing)

i downloaded the K-lite codec package thinking it may be that. nothing happened.
i have also noticed that when i view a movie/video, even though i can close the media player [X], it still playing. i can hear it. when i re-open it, its still playing as if i just minimised it.
so i don't know what to do.
(could my G15 keyboard be keeping the file running in the background somehow)

i am not in favour of a 'roll back' (system restore) because i don't know when it started. (not to mention the loss in data)
and for those who don't know. the vista media player is apart of the program. it can't be uninstalled nor re-installed without re-installing all of vista again.
not a pleasant thought.

thanks for any help you can give me

The thing has worked great over the years. But last week out of nowhere it stopped booting. When I try and power on it the monitor says there is no signal coming in and I get one long beep immediately followed by two short beeps. I believe my bios is Award, which from google searches would indicate my video card is causing the problem. Since I did that I had no indication of any heat issues (ie no symptoms of overheating, and according to motherboard monitor the inside temp was fine when I checked it) so my $.02 is that this current problem is unrelated. I also installed more memory at that time, but again I had no issues with the memory since then so I believe it to be unrelated too.

OK here's what happened.
Someone was trying to add a video card to a Gateway GT5228 PC so that they could use two monitors.
The PC and existing monitor was using the on board video.
They installed a new video card and loaded drivers for it.
The on board video showed up in device manager and was deleted.
Somehow the new video card was also deleted in the device manager as well.
Now the PC will boot and you will see video until the windows splash screen then the monitor will go blank.
The PC is running as someone suggested using MS Narrator to hear the menus and try to get to device manager.
However he was unable to navigate to the device manager using this technique.
Using F8 and trying to boot into safe mode resulted in the same issues.
Trying forced VGA also the same.
Trying to use system restore to roll back to the previous setup also resulted in the same outcome.
Can anybody suggest a good way to be able to get the video back up and running?
I personally have not looked at this PC to try a few things but will be looking at it tonight.
Anyone else run into this problem?
I would think windows would not allow all video to be deleted from device manager but I guess it has happened to many folks before.
The OS is XP Pro.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

A:Deleted Video card in device manager now no video past splash screen

take out the new card and reboot. restart (whatever happens) and go into BIOS, check your onboard graphics is enabled, save and reboot. ...you were still using the onboard graphics by he way...tell me when you've done the above..

I have a 1994 Sony Handycam . I was going to unload it because I thought I could not transfer video from the Handycam to my PC. Then I happened upon a site that said:

"It is perfect for transferring your 8mm videos to DVD or VHS, PC or Laptop, or just viewing them. To transfer to DVD recorder or VHS, just use the included AV cable. To transfer to computer, you will need a video converter (analog to digital) such as the ones made by Dazzle(cheap on Ebay)."

So if this information is correct, I have two questions. One-which converter would work with my Handycam and PC (details below). Two-where would be a good place on internet to find one.

Hello Group,

Windows XP, Powerpoint 2007, Window Media Player 9

Created a simple Powerpoint page, with a menu of small graphic icons that when clicked activate a particular video clip.

All works fine, video is activated properly, and when it ends, the media player closes and control is returned to my Powerpoint page.

However, the graphic icon that was just used to activate the video is now turned to all black. Why?

Kisok mode is set to ON so the next user can make their selection. Rewind video at end option has no effect, same behavior whether on or off.

How can I stop this blackening of the graphic icon on the Powerpoint page when the video activated by clicking that icon ends? It is acting like Kiosk mode is not being recognized, as by definition the page must be preserved intact for the next user of the kiosk application.

Hope someone can help. Thanks for looking in. Also posted to Multimedia forum in case the problem is the media player.

Okay, here's what I want to do. I want to send video output to a Plasma in my family room and also have output to the computer monitor in the adjacent office. I have the option of using either VGA or DVI to either monitor, so I can use a video card that has dual VGA/DVI outputs. Or, I can buy a separate PCI video card. Right now I have an ATI All-in-Wonder 7500.

Am I better off to get a new video card with dual monitor output or have two separate video cards. If the former, what video cards do you recommend? I know I've seen recommendations for the 9600 Pro, which seems to have dropped significantly in price? I'd like to stay with ATI as I've always used that.

I didn't have enough time to read everything on the blue screen, but I caught a little bit saying that Windows had encountered an error with the video driver and needed to shut down. The computer rebooted a bit sluggishly, but now appears to be fine. Any ideas as to whether this is a problem with my video card's driver or the video on the site? Videos elsewhere work fine.

First you can download Speccy to check the temprature of the display card, mainboard to see whether it's normal:
Then you can try to reinstall the driver of the display card or upgrade the driver.

Alright, I have spend about 3 years trying to resolve this problem and I have done so much research that I felt it would be a waste for me not to post something about it.
After I owned two Dell laptops, the XPS13 and Alienware 17. Both having the same problems. I tried everything, I read through all of the forums and I tried everytthing these forums have suggested and at multiple occasions I ruined my laptop and had to format it.
I also always had the full warrenty with Dell customer service and have replaced my xps13 TWICE and my Alienware once. This is of course after replacing the motherboard and the hard drive and spending endless hours over the phone with them while they update all my drivers and ensure my software is running correctly. They ran 100's of tests on my computer to see why this is happening and no one could ever solve this problem.
However, after all this research with no solution in sight I thought of the problem logically. My alienware was running 16 gb of ram and 1 TB of HDD regular hard drive. I figured if I have so much ram to run anything I want, maybe it is having the regular hard drive that is not keeping up with the ram. Sure enough, when I went and bought the best SSD out there Samsung Pro 950 256 GB and installed it and used it as my operating system while the HDD ran as my storage. For the first time in 3 years and 4 computers... my pc was running with no jitterz or lagging or any issues!
At the end of the day there wa... Read more

Hi, something seems to be wrong with my windows media player. I cant watch videos that I downloaded or have but can watch a DVD movie. Every time I try to watch a video that I downloaded or have, no video appears but has sounds. Whenever i try watching a video, a message in the buttom left appears "error downloading codec". I tried watching a DVD movie and it worked. I don't know why only the sounds comes out but not the video. Please help me. Thanks.

You don't have the right codecs. I suggest just downloading VLC. It's better than WMP for video playback, even with the right codecs.

We have T470 (20JM) and T470s(20JS) in our environment. Both models are having a problem connecting to external displays using HDMI Intermittently and sporadically the screen goes blank. It does not matter what order I turn on the devices or connect the cables. Randomly the screen will go black - sometimes the image comes back within a few seconds; sometimes the image blinks on and off for up to a minute; sometimes the image is steady and the monitor is usable for an hour or two; sometimes the image stays off for so long (about 30 seconds) that I get a "No Signal Detected" message from the monitor, only to have the image return (sometimes within seconds, sometimes within minutes, sometimes within hours).

Media Used: DVD disk and video movie download (Cinemanow.com)

Issue: Video Display has slow update and loses frames on both DVDs and Video Movie downloaded files.

[1] The computer has always had this problem; this is not a new issue.

[2] I have tried adjusting the Display settings provide by XP with no measurable improvement.

[3] Sound is not affected and has good quality.

[4] When MS-Media Player is used and is minimized to the task bar (mini screen presentation) the Video Display quality improves, but is not acceptable.

[5] Only about half of Video Movie can be viewed. Image freezes and play button is enabled. When play is clicked, the Video Movie restarts from the beginning.

Does anyone have a suggestion, I am out of ideas.

Wow, it just might be the ancient processor you have and the very small amount of Ram you have. Video really eats up resources and I think you dont have the power to run it without problems, The key here is that when you minimize your preview window in Media Player, you have less problems.

Hello Im currently Unable To Use Xillisoft Video Converter / MS Movie Maker (2012) or CUDA Video Converter

I have a video that I captured using FRAPS its avi and I want to convert it to youtube format MP4 OR WMV for easy upload.

When I try to to convert the video with movie maker I get no visual only audio with a black screen. With Xillisoft and Cuda Video Converter they both end up with a failed to convert message.

I scanned my computer with malwarebytes pro and no issues. I also scanned with this program called rouguekiller I found off the internet that scans for rootkits and 0 access viruses, It found a few but I Don't know if they were actually viruses or not but I went ahead a removed them and restarted computer but still have issues.

Ive also tried installed the software titles in different compatibility modes, Im using windows 8 64bit and tried windows 7 comp mode and windows xp compatibility mode and still having issues.

The Video I made with Fraps works fine in windows media player but not in latest movie maker. I was using almost identical configuration with radeon hd gpu and didn't have any issues, it worked once with my NVidia gpu which is a gtx 650ti.

I have latest graphics drivers and turned off anti virus / firewall when I try to convert video.

I don't know what else to do Any Help Appreciated, Only thing I havnt tried is uninstalling and reinstalling Fraps but I don't know why I would be having issues that would cause this.

Are you only experiencing this problem with only one FRAPS file or does it happen with any FRAPS video you create?

Would you mind sharing a short video file with us to see if we can re-create the problem on our systems and see if it is the video or the system causing problems?

I am having problems with my computer, in fact my old laptop had the same problem with the same video files, any 1080p video files I may have on my computer will have a problem where the audio will stop for 3 - 5 seconds while the video continues to play, if I play-through the whole video with the audio stopping, the video ends before the audio, but if I skip to the end of the video at any point in the playback, the audio is in sync. I'm wondering if it is a Windows 7 related bug because the computers with the problem all run Windows 7. I could only find things on the internet regarding video websites like Youtube and such but I couldn't find anything with files on the computer. If those same videos I have problems with are uploaded to a video hosting website, they play just find without skipping on the website, even when my Internet slows around 6PM.
