redirect to https when there is no https version of the site

Q: redirect to https when there is no https version of the site

Using internet explorer.
When typing in a website address www.example.com the browser auitomatically inserts https. This is fine, but does so when there is no https version of the site it goes to "we cant reach this page." Then have to manually remove the s and then it's fine.
This was how the computer was setup when it arrived.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Dear Friend,
I am Anil from India. I have recently joined the forum after struggling for a week to stablise my unstable PC. I used to have some Anti Virus software on my pc before few years. But since last few years I was not having any AV software as this PC was not being used for surfing etc.
Since I started to use it again for surfing, downloading etc., I wanted to instal avast AV software. I installed it from some recent installer file with me. But when it tried to update the virus database, I got the message that "can't connect to server". Then I tried to open avast.com. But I again got the error message "The page cannot be displayed". Then I uninstalled the avast and tried to open other antivirus sites like norton, mcafee, avg etc., but all failed.
Then I tried to update my system using automatoc update utility. But again failed. microsoft.com also failed to open.
I use GPRS connection through cellular connection to browse the network.
Now I have downloaded and installed Hijack This.

Hi,

I have been unable to log into a particular https site that I use for work. As I type in my name and password, I get "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".

I diagnosed the connections and looked for more information and there is nothing obvious that stands out.

I assumed it was an issue with Windows 7, so I created a Virtual PC to operate Windows XP and I am able to log in.

Any ideas? I would prefer to access this site through my host PC.

Thanks so much for your replies!

Using IE8 on Windows 7 Pro on my laptop, I am able to login to the control panel of my Web site (hosted by Siteground, if that's significant) but on my desktop computer, with the same software, I can't. Siteground had me run a PING and a TRACERT and concluded that everything is just dandy and told me to find a "local computer technician" to solve this problem. The desktop is brand new (just a few days old) so I'm relatively confident that it has to do with a software setting somewhere as opposed to, for example, a blocked 443 port at the router. I experience the same problem in Firefox so I'm guessing the software issue isn't with IE8 specifically. Help?!

add the site to "trusted" sites. Then check your IE settings to make sure you're using SSL 2.0 and or 3.0

Hello! Thank you all in advance for reading and helping.

I own an old Dell Latitude D600 and yes I do know it's outdated. However it is a trusty little thing and comes in handy for basic internet stuffs. Until recently. For my main browser I use firefox.

I had went on vacation and took my laptop along. Not wanting the battery to be plugged in on the trip there and back I left it out. At the time I really had no net connection and was mainly using it to store photos and videos. When I got back everything loaded fine until I tried to access my e-mail account. I had received a not trusted site error and apparently the certificates that went along were considered outdated and my laptop couldn't acquire new ones. I tried everything from rebooting to checking the security options as firefox tech support had instructed me to do. Thinking it's firefox I had tried internet explorer and google chrome all which seems to have the same problem. Nothing so far has helped. I'm turning here to hopefully get real human help. Thank you all once again for reading and helping.

Iím almost at my wits end here with a problem. I keep trying to get access to the following sight:
https://online.parker.com/pol/portal
It is an employee website. Iíve used it many times before with no problems, but for the last several days I keep getting error messages, such as:
Access Denied or You are not authorized to view this page or HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden or sometimes it asks for a username and password (which I supply it with), but it will just keep asking the same thing until it goes to a screen that says: Login Required
You must login before you can access the resource you have requested.
Explanation
The resource you have requested is secured by Access Manager WebSEAL, and in order to access it, you must first login.

I have ran Norton antivirus an it found no issues. I have also ran Spybot S&D, and AdAware; but neither of them reported any problems.
I have tried logging on from 2 different computers at neighbors, and it works just fine, so Iím assuming it something in my systems.

I have WinXP Ser.2, Norton Firewall, and a linksys router. I have bypassed the router-and nothing. I have turned of Norton and nothing. Windows firewall is OFF. I have checked and rechecked my IE security options and they are as they have always been.

PLEASE help if you can. I ran HijackThis, but itís all greek to me.

Any help would be most appreciated.

To use some features on the Nascar.com web site, you need to log in through https://secure.audience.nascar.com. Problem is, the site can't be reached or pinged. Increasing ping time generates nothing but timeout errors. Something in the computer is blocking it from reaching that web address, whether it's entered as a name or a numeric address. This problem happens with four different web browsers - IE8, Firefox 3, Chrome and Safari.

It's a Gateway laptop with Vista SP1. It happens with a LAN connection. WiFi and Ev-Do. The web address is available on one machine with an identical WiFi link but not with the Gateway laptop.

Here are some of the attempts to solve the problem that have failed:

Resetting TCP/IP stack.
Switching DNS server.
Removing Norton Internet Security 2008.
Shutting down Windows Defender.
Running the computer with no firewall.
Removing and reinstalling network adapters and reinstalling drivers.
Running Vista in safe mode with networking.
Removing all temporary files and history.
Adding the domain to the IE trusted sites list.

The secure.audience.nascar.com address and the nascar.com domain are not blocked in the Hosts list.

NASCAR tech support has no idea what's going on.
Several checks of other web sites and Microsoft's online support on problems with accessing https secure sites have turned up no problems with accessing that site.

The Gateway has no trouble accessing several other https secure sites, but can not reach secure.a... Read more

I am having the dickens of a time figuring out how this should work. It seems that I have to get my tomcat engine configured somehow to accept it, also I have to buy a certificate from someone?

Can anyone point me to information on how to do this?

Poker Netcast | Live At The Bike | LABT

Their login is https. Ive been in IT for 15 years and even this has stumped me.

When I go to login in IE9 starts looping from the login page to the https page and back to the original page and never ends. I load firefox, same issue. I load Crome, it worked for 1 day then same issue. It used to login in fine last week. It logs in fine on my 2 other PCs and my Kindlefire.

I have checked for viruses with Avast and A-Malware Bytes in safe mode - nothing. These 2 pick up 98% of stuff. Personally I dont think its a virus

in IE9 - Deleted browsing history, cookies, temp internet files, everything under the Geneeral/Browsing History section. Did a disk cleanup, put the site inthe trusted zone, turned off popup blocker just in case, Cleared SSL state, Reset IE9. Zippo

I have not done a check disk. Which I will try next. And now its affecting another site in which I download secure information.

I am not a super expert on SSL and https. Any thoughts appreciated.

Only that you should stick with Firefox or Chrome if they can do what IE can't.
That would be the simplest solution so why put up with the hassle IE is causing you?
I only fire up IE these days if someone on the forum wants to know how to do something with it and I can't remember the exact method from memory.

Used Chrome accessing a website dealing with money and although it shown as a 'https:' its marked as 'not secure'.

Yet on the first page just giving you info, it is shown as 'Secure' .

But the next page where you give your details, it is shown as 'Not Secure' yet it is 'https:' but that is crossed out.

Reading on the net about this problem, it is related to Chrome marking most sites with 'http;' as 'Not Secure' since Chrome V56 release. Which is what I have.

So why would a 'https;' be shown as 'Not Secure' when its suppose to the 'http:' sites.

A:Chrome showing a 'https' site as 'not secure' instead of a '

Because HTTP sites are not secure, so if a site requires a password it will be marked as not secure if it's not using HTTPS. An HTTPS site can also be marked as not secure if the sites certificate has expired or has been revoked, or if it's signed for another site or incorrectly signed or another issue with it's certificate. I would be wary of using a site that deals with money if its showing as not being secure.

The title says it all! Basically, I've been using AdFender (which I believe was recommended by this site) and it was working great. However, it seems that certain sites (like google and youtube) will only load as an https now, even if I'm logged out of the account. AdFender doesn't work on https sites, so now I'm bombarded with commercials and banner ads on videos: It's absolutely terrible!

So, can anyone either:
1. Recommend an adblocker that works on https sites?
2. Tell me how to run sites that default to https as an http?

Thanks for your time!

ADDITIONAL INFO: I forgot to mention that I am using Windows 8.1 and have had this problem on both Google Chrome and Internet Explorer.

Try clearing your cache, Are you getting interrupts with your internet service? I believe Citrix will complain if your internet drops out while connected. Try running CCleaner, it will clear out all of your internet cache and other junk sitting on your machine.

Also you might want to run spyware scans. Download Windows Defender and Spybot search & destroy.

Hope this helps.

I download a lot of content from a movies newsgroup. I recently found out the newsgroup has secure access https. What I'm wondering is, if I'm downloading movies from the newsgroup is my isp going to see matrix.avi comming across there server from alt.movies.divx or it is just going to look like garbage. My isp is cracking down on movies/music downloads.

More so just an example to figure out how https works.

I am having trouble with IE7 and https:// sites. I can open all http:// sites no problem. When it comes to https:// it will not work. Is this just a setting that got messed up somewhere?

A:Ie7 & https://

This is a c&p troubleshoot for https connect problems.

Verify that Internet Explorer Is Using 128-Bit Encryption:

In Internet Explorer, on the Help menu, click About Internet Explorer
The level of encryption on your computer appears next to the words Cipher Strength.
Verify that the Cipher Strength value appears as 128-bit
If the Cipher Strength is anything less then 128-bit, download the "Explorer Internet High Encryption Pack" to your computer's hard disk, and then install it.

Delete Temporary Internet Files
There's also a possibility of some corrupted files in your Temporary Internet Files (TIF) storage. You should clear these
In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and select the General tab
Under Temporary Internet files, click Delete Files, and click OK when you are prompted to confirm the deletion

Configure Security settings for the Trusted sites zone in Internet Explorer:
In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and select the Security tab
Select Trusted sites, and then click Default Level
Add the secure Web site you are trying to access to the Trusted sites zone. To do so, click Sites, type the address (URL) of the site in the Add this Web site to the zone box
Click Add, click OK, and then click Apply

Clear the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) slate and AutoComplete history:
In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and select the Content tab

Security has always been critical to the web, but challenges involved in site migration have inhibited HTTPS adoption for several years. In the interest of a safer web for all, at Google we?ve worked alongside many others across the online ecosystem to better understand and address these challenges, resulting in real change. A web with ubiquitous HTTPS is not the distant future. It?s happening now, with secure browsing becoming standard for users of Chrome.

Today, we?re adding a new section to the HTTPS Report Card in our Transparency Report that includes data about how HTTPS usage has been increasing over time. More than half of pages loaded and two-thirds of total time spent by Chrome desktop users occur via HTTPS, and we expect these metrics to continue their strong upward trajectory.
Percentage of pages loaded over HTTPS in Chrome

As the remainder of the web transitions to HTTPS, we?ll continue working to ensure that migrating to HTTPS is a no-brainer, providing business benefit beyond increased security. HTTPS currently enables the bestperformance the web offers and powerful features that benefit site conversions, including both new features such as service workers for offline support and web push notifications, and existing features such as credit card autofill and the HTML5 geolocation API that are too powerful to be used over non-secure HTTP. As with all major site migrations, there are certain steps webmasters should take to ensure that search ranking tra... Read more

Hello.
I'm running W10 and IE11. Earlier my internet connection went down but now has come back up. There is a noise problem on my line and the disconnection is expected behaviour. But, since the connection came back my browser will only access https capable sites, no http. This is a pain because a lot of my Favourites are http only. As a matter of fact, even some https sites wont download. There are far too many of these instances to be just sites going down etc. Does this sound like a setting has changed somewhere, or maybe could the poor connection be causing an issue, even though everything was working as normal until the system went down for a while, and the noise problem is not new.
Cheers

Q: https?

How do l get my browser type in only the https sites. My roommate thinks if I don't use the https. Then we are going to be hacked, jacked or who knows. Please can someone shed some light on this for me. Thank you

A:https?

Oh dear, nope, it's not true, https connections are just for passwords, websites come across encrypted in https mode and decrypted when the site gets a handshake from your pc, it's just a more secure way of entering form info and passwords, but to be honest, if your computer isn't secure on the virus front, the https connection is irrelevant.
