Q: sound card agony 2

can anyone tell me if sound card drivers exist for a sbt-sp6c 6 channel 5.1 surround sound audio card to run in vista x64? the card has two chips on it. the large one is a forte media fm 801-au. the small chip is a realtek alc650.

i have not been able to find the correct drivers to install the card in my pc. i have tried many different drivers and none have worked. i've tried all the realtek sound drivers. none have worked. i have downloaded the latest forte media drivers i can find. they don't work with vista x64.

please, help if you can. it's very frustrating not being able to install the sound card.

thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Despite my efforts to maintain a clean and safe computer, something miserable has bitten me. I'm not entirely sure what the issue is, but I know something unusual is going on.

Here are some signs and symptoms ...

Recently, after periods of unattended downloading, I would lose internet connectivity. The only way I could regain connectivity would be to reboot. Reboot would take what felt like forever. Sometimes there would be a windows dialogue box asking for login credentials for dial-up, which is odd considering I am not on dial. Recently, it has been discovered that all boot ups are agonizingly slow with apparent lengthy periods of inactivity (ie hard disk activity, or even a signal being sent to the monitor) On average, 4-5 minutes to boot up.

Today, while surfing, my AVG anti-virus went crazy picking up immediate virii from websites that were appearing out of know where. Bam Bam Bam Bam! A new virus infected webpage auto opens and is caught by AVG. There was also an unusual blue webpage titled windows critical update that could not be closed. I use Firefox, not IE, but if I recall, these websites may have been hosted by IE.

I have randomly been asked on occasion to shut down.

I have lost ability to access regedit (says the administrator has removed privledges, even in safe mode as the administrator). Even known workarounds commonly available on the internet have failed.

I am unable to run Adaware ... it says it's already running, when it's not ... that I ... Read more

MS Update installed a Realtek driver that really does not agree with my system. I'm fine with the MS 5 High Def version.

Ever time I g to device manager and programs & features and delete it and spec the MS generic version I'm good for about a minute then the Realtek gets installed. Even after I delete the folder in programs. I am totally stumped here as this version MS is pushing out is really having problems and I cant make it go away.

I have gone to advanced settings and set it to prevent downloading ANY driver updates at all. It keeps coming back.

I've tried just about everything I can find on Google. I'd really appreciate some help on this. It began happening after this past Tuesdays update. I had other issues (now solved) with that update

A:MS Realtek driver agony - please help

The following steps worked for me...
First uninstall the faulty driver, but do not restart your machine until you do the following:

Type"Device Installation Settings" in your Windows search box. A result named "Change device installation settings" should show up.

?Choose No

Once that's done, you have to go into the Windows Update Settings and change it to "Notify Schedule a restart".

Now go ahead and do a restart.

At this point, the driver won't automatically install, but will be listed in Windows Update. Microsoft expects you to install it anyways. What you need to do is hide it from Windows Update. Download the "Show or hideupdates" troubleshooter package

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

That tool will then let you see what's in Windows update and you can then hide it from Windows update.

Hi Everyone,

Hello Peeps,    I just received T520 package today and my excitement suddenly turned to grief when I saw a bright glowing red dot on my screen. OMG... a dead pixel right out of the box! Did I just drop my hard earned grand that I have been saving for months on something that would bug me for the rest of the products life?    I quickly searched Lenovo's dead pixel policy and almost fainted when I found out the unit has to have at least 3 dead pixels to be considered for replacement noooooooo...wahhhh....boohohoho..sob       Why did they ship out a unit with dead pixel??? I'm pretty sure it was NOT missed by QA because it glows like a laser beam in the dark and a dead pixel would not develop while in transit!           I'm going to contact Lenovo post sales tomorrow and really hoping something can be done. I know some of you will consider this as another guy who got a dead pixel rant, but man, when someone spend this amount of cash, and I'm not rich, I would at least expect to receive a non-defective product. Oh Lordy, I should have trusted my instinct and buy something of this value in a brick and mortar store. Hoping for the best but this night would not be a pleasant one. Sigh,Jason

A:hard drive agony -- please help!!

I had a Western digital and a Maxtor HDD together in a system a few years ago. I can remember that they didn't both work together. Since then, I have sort of become brand loyal and only use Maxtor (Western digital and most others are just as good)-I don't mix hard drives. Most drives will work together but occasionally you get two that don't and you can avoid the possibility of this by just using one brand. If this is the case, then you might be able to put them both on different IDE channels long enough to transfer files.
If it isn't brand compatability, then check to see (in cmos) that your unrecognised drive is using the same access mode as it was before when it worked, probably LBA. If it is somehow set to a different mode, then what you described is exactly what happens.
In event of a corrupted partition, you may need to buy some partition salvaging software. One peice of software you can get for free usually on the Maxtor site is Maxblast, which runs on DR. DOS (one comes with each new boxed HDD too, if you still have it somewhere). If you download this HDD installation disc, and put it on a floppy it will give you a lot of great utilities to install and troubleshoot Maxtor hard drives.
One more thing to check is the cable. I have had ribbon cables that had one wire break somewhere and even though the drive continued to work, funny things would happen. You do have the proper 80 pin (not 40 pin) IDE cables, right?

Okay quick run up on how XP boots Boot.ini file loads windows. Most experienced users know the way to check a boot path is the msconfig option from run that is on every windows except win 2000. Start>Run>msconfig>boot.ini. You can change some boot options here and get rid of os's that were deleted with their boot path. But you know what not so on Vista, it uses a whole new system called bcdedit.exe I believe that boot.ini doesn't even see or acknowledge. So to bring you up to speed here's what happened:

I was on the release candidates with build 2600 I tried to install it to my 2nd spindled drive. A totally seperate physical drive I labeled as F:. It wouldn't work it would give the black screen of death with no blinking cursor, no nothing, just my monitor looking at me saying "I'm glowing amber on my led what are you going to do?". Obviously install Norton Partition Magic and make room for it on the main drive.

So now I stretch out room on my C: for two more partitions. Another Primary I label G: and an extended volume I label as H:. Guess what Vista RC1 build 2600 works great! I get a dual boot option after the motherboard logo goes away and it will default to Vista but I can also choose Vista...... for about 2 weeks then the same pill looking icon Windows says to install for protection starts causing problems, I think the thing was PC Chillin or something like that. I uninstall it, RC1 kind of works but inevitably something is ... Read more

A client brought in his laptop a few days back saying it wouldn't start up anymore. I took a look..

When turning on the laptop, I am presented with a HP login screen requesting a fingerprint or password. This password is known, we type it in and get a windows error stating that the bootloader is corrupt.

I figured this would be easy enough - simply repair the bootloader. I booted off of the windows 8 disk and tried startup repair. Startup repair failed, because it could not access the drive the OS is installed on.

I decide to look up what the HP login screen post-bios is all about. It turns out HP Protect Tools was used to encrypt the partition the OS and my clients (important!) data is on. I later found out that messing with the bootloader on a drive encrypted with HP's software can mess things up further, so I'm glad in a way that the windows DVD repair options didn't function.

I searched online for ways to recover the data and found a way to perhaps rescue the files here:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/ftp1/pub/caps-softpaq/TCE&Q/
However, this method requires the backup encryption key (typcially saved to usb) to work.

Now here comes the fun stuff. The guy this laptop belongs was not aware that his drive was encrypted and didn't even know it was installed.. His laptop was originally installed at his companies main office, so we turned there to get the key file required to unlock the files on the drive. They don't have the backup encryption key. Brilliant.

Oh, did I mention tha... Read more

My first post so please be patient with me. My PC is a Dell Dimension 8200, (vintage 2002) Pentium 4, 512 cache, 2GB memory, 120GB HD.

I upgraded my OS from Win XP Pro to Win 7 Ultimate in Nov 2010 and my soundcard completely stopped working as being incompatible with Win 7. There are no updating drivers as it is old technology according to the manufacturer (Voyetra Turtle Beach Santa Cruz DSP). Went downtown and bought a replacement and when I tried to install it I found that the connectors didn?t match. The salesman said that Dell uses proprietary connectors therefore I must use a Dell card. Dell doesn?t have any for my outdated system.

So my question is: Will a USB soundcard, (such as the Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro or equal) actually solve my problem, i.e., do everything a regular soundcard does? It just sounds too good to be true!

Many thanks for any assistance you can provide.

yes of course, all you have to do is disable the mobo sc from the BIOS and install the new one. if you have any software that was installed for the mobo sc just uninstall it and make sure u remove it from the device manager.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

First. Go into your bios, and disable your onboard sound, and save and exit bios.

Once your computer has booted up, go into contol panel, and double click the sounds and audio devices icon.

Click on the audio tab, and set the sound playback device to your new soundcard.

Do the same for the sound recording device. Click on the voice tab and do the same. Click apply/ok.

Make sure you have the correct drivers installed for your new soundcard, and that your speakers are plugged into the new soundcard.

Ever since I got my second Video Card and went SLI I have had crippling sound problems. After playing for a while all sounds get replace with a high pitched squeal. This is only with games, not music (using WMP), DVDs (using WinDVD), and only with my sound card, not the (crappy) onboard sound (which has no problem). Some games may play for three minutes, others for close to fifty before this consistently happens. It seems to be simply subsistuting all sounds with this annoying noise. I quit the game it goes quiet, but music is now affected and DVDs have NO sound. Single GPU works fine (either card, either PCI-E slot), sound card in either PCI slot still causes the problem. I recently got a newer, better sound card but it does the exact same thing. I think it may be either a video card issue, or the motherboard. Is it something to due with the way the video card handles sound? Or the motherboard? HELP!! I really like the improved graphics (on a relative budget) that SLI brings, and don't like being hobbled like this.

Tried Turning down Sound Card Acceleration with the old card, didn't help.

Hi,

I recently purchased the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy FX and am having problems getting it to actually play any audio or record any sound.

I've browsed other threads with similar issues on this board and as such have disabled my motherboards onboard audio in my BIOS settings, have reinstalled the drivers from disc and from the Creative website, and even attempted to use Driverpack Online to download any missing drivers. However my problem still persists.

I can see that the Sound Blaster Audigy FX is present on the sound option on the control panel, but it never actually plays any sound. Additionally, whenever I try to play a test sound in the speakers advanced properties I am returned with the error "Failed to play test tone".

I've included a few screenshots that might help make things a bit more clear, and I'd be very appreciative of any help I can get with this issue.

First thing, I assume you have correctly attached your speakers to the new SoundBlaster.

As you have a separate sound card, did you disable any on-board (on the motherboard) audio in the BIOS? If not, that is the first step. The on-board, is still enabled, can conflict with the SoundBlaster.

Also, temporarily disable the AMD HD audio in the Device Manager for testing (the AMD is for HDMI audio). Reboot after doing this.

Finally, although this has may not have any affect on playback, the default recording device should be the SoundBlaster "What You Hear". In the Recording sound panel, RIGHT click in an empty area and then check to show Disconnected and Disabled devices. If the SoundBlaster was installed correctly What You Hear should now show up and you can enable it and make it the default recording device.

Hey everyone!

I'm having some serious problems with my sound card over here. I have an Asus P4SDX motherboard that SUPPOSEDLY has an integrated sound card, but it doesn't seem to be working. We're talking no headphones, no speakers, NOTHING. I downloaded and installed the AC97 sound drivers and it's STILL not working. Windows Media Player gives me an error that says "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly."

I've tried Microsoft's troubleshooter, too, and it didn't tell me anything that I hadn't already tried.

I'm new to this whole taking care of my own computer thing b/c I'm off at college now and it's really starting to frustrate me. I know more a/b computers than most girls do but apparently it's not enough! Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi,
I'm working on husband's pc, it is an HP Media Ctr. set up. Pavilion 4100e. We had to do a System Restore when pc was over run with virus/trojan infections. SR resulted in some lost Driver/Controller files, including ethernet and sound card. I have recovered all Driver/Controller files-- and everything is working except for sound.

I have uninstalled Creative Audigy Audio Processor (through Device Manager) and reinstalled (through Found New Hardware). I have run dxdiag, only to find "device cannot start" under problem devices/sound card.

Any suggestions on how to get this to work again? I cannot use System Restore to go back to when it was working, because that would take me back to all the virus/trojan infections and nothing was working.

Any help would be appreciated~

Thanks,

I am so close to having my new audio system established. On the headphone side, all I need to do is place my order. However, I've run into a bit of a snag considering the sound card.

I was originally recommended the Sound Blaster Z to pair with my headphones. Exact card here, the one with the external microphone since I'll need it. Unfortunately, this sound card specifies Windows 7 and 8 as supported operating systems. I asked if it would still work for Vista, but the other forum (headphone forum) seemed to think that it wouldn't, unfortunately. I'm not looking to upgrade my OS. As horrible and clunky as it is, I've made it work for me.

IF it would work with Vista, than just let me know and read no further. If not, I'd love if I could get some recommendations for a comparable card.

I'm looking for the best sound card possible, given my physical and operational specs. I have PCI-E slots 1x and 4x free, and my OS is Windows Vista Ultimate 32x. The card will support both gaming and music, though I'm more concerned with gaming than music at this point. I'm not looking to drop a bundle (the SB-Z was a little on the expensive side) but as high as 70 or 80 is acceptable. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. I'm raring to place my orders, haha.

It's the most suspicious sound I've ever heard. It sounds exactly like fat, felt tip marker making a quick check on paper. It can also be compared to a rat sniff or a piece of paper being turned. I wear headphones and can hear this noise occasionally for up to 15 minutes. It likes to happen at night, when 'they' are active ( humor me ). Because of the sneaky, low volume, discreet, low down, creepy, stalky, shifty sound I am disposed to imagine that someone is looking through my files for credit information and they are unaware of these sounds from my sound card, or they don't care about the sound because they are safe from being caught.

Sound like I'm crazy? Just paranoid. I did say it makes me imagine. The kind of person I am is the same kind that will run system restore at a moment's notice for anything that looks suspicious or a NoScript violation. Because that sound is clearly designed to resemble a sniffing rat doing something sneaky on my computer. I tried to record the output with Audacity 1.3, but it had stopped before I had recorded anything.

My setup:

Windows XP Pro 64 bit Service Pack 2
Verizon High Speed Internet
Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller
LinkSys Router routing to a Windows 7 laptop, WPK-PSK, TKIP
Soundblaster Live!

Mozilla FireFox

A:Solved: Suspicious sound coming from sound card output.

It was that Windows XP search dog. When you ctrl + f to open the search side bar in a window there is an animated dog that seems innocuous. Every 15 minutes or so it will scratch itself and make that noise twice. As long as that search side bar is open, minimized or not, that noise will persist.

my lenovo laptop was running fine, but all of a sudden the sound started freaking out and about every second or so, the sound would cut out, and cut back in,

ex. im playing a video and the people are talking, but it sounds like
"th--- is h--- fin---- compu----" or something like that.

the weird part is, the speakers arent working, but when i plug in my headphones, sound starts working, out of the speakers, while the headphones are plugged in with no sound coming out of the headphones, and thats pretty strange. but it gets stranger, pretty much anything plugged into the audio jack would make the speakers start working, even if it is just an adapter for another thing, and not even a headphone...

so i checked the sound in the control panel, and i said that it "could not detect sound card, restart and it will try to find it" or something, so i restarted and the problem still happened, but this time, the control panel says that "your device is working properly" when its obviously not.

ive looked on the microsoft support page and followed the instructions, no help. lenovo support? no help.

ive tried running a troubleshoot on the audio playback, but it said that it could not detect the problem,

ive checked the device manager and under the video, sound and game controllers, it has listed "Conexant 20671 SmartAudio HD", and "Intel(R) Display Audio" and they both are listed as "working properly" (nope)... Read more

Been having major issues playing GTA IV.

First, the sound kept getting cut during gaming. When I exited the game, there was no sound in Windows either. I had to reboot to get sound but after a couple of minutes, the sound cut off again and I wasn't even gaming then. Video playback became really laggy (YouTube played videos as if in slow motion) and there was no sound.

I had to reboot the PC several times. Unisntalled sound card (through Device Manager) and then reinstalled it as well as the latest drivers. Still had same issue when I tried playing GTA IV.

Today, I got consecutive BSODs while playing GTA IV. I've had several issues with GTA IV like missing textures, no sound, freezing (at loading screens), CTD (crash to desktop) etc. Tried reinstalling the game several times from scratch and even tried different hard drive but none of them work(ed).

I'm playing GTA IV heavily modded (Gionight ENB mod with several custom cars/weapons etc.) but my computer is a beast and it should be able to handle it easily.

My specs:

Video: EVGA GTX-580 3GB Tri-SLI
Sound: Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Titanium HD
Power Supply: PC Power & Cooling 1200W
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1

The first BSOD was STOP code 0x124 and that was with stock clocks for the GPU. The second BSOD was STOP code 0x1000007e and that was with GPUs OC'd to 850MHz.

A:distorted sound in vista/createiv x-fi titanium sound card

I had a Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic in my rig and I constantly had distorted audio - manifesting in the form of 'crackly', echoing sounds. Really frustrating, I tried all kinds of solutions including a clean uninstall of the audio drivers, replugging the sound card in a different PCI slot, etc. For a while everything would be fine, and then back into crunchy-sound-land...

My rig used to have Windows XP Pro as the OS, and the sound card worked perfectly. It was only after I changed the OS to Vista that the woes began.

This is probably not the solution you want to hear, but after 2 years of despair I flogged the card on eBay and bought myself an Auzen X-Fi Prelude 7.1 card. Although that is still an X-Fi it works beautifully in Vista, absolutely no problem with the sound since.

A:Connecting sound pins from front panel to sound card

I can't find any detailed information. In any case, I don't know why you would want separate speaker outputs on the front panel. Most of the bay panels I've seen have standard features like mic in, headphone out, and misc other connections like USB, Firewire, etc.. I've not seen any with individual (ie: left speaker, right speaker, center speaker) connections, and it would clutter your front panel having all of the those cables hanging.

Hi! I just installed a new mother board and cpu. Its an ECS 755-A2 mother board with a 3200+ AMD Sempron/64-bit CPU. It's not the best, but i was trying to save money.

Before, I had a soyo and a 2800+ AMD Athlon XP and i had the Sound Blaster Live 5.1. Now with this ECS mb, the sound card doesn't get detected anymore, even in device manager. I downloaded the new driver for the Sound Blaster Live 5.1 from their official website and when I came to install it... it said that there were no Sound Blaster cards detected on my computer even though it was securely pushed in IN a pci slot!!

Then I decided that I don't need sound blaster so i installed the driver for the integrated sound card on my mb (realtek AC-97) and everything LOOKS fine according to their program and the control panel (sound and audio options) but i dont receive any sound from anything at all. I was planning on buying a NEW sound card but then i decided to test this Sound Blaster Live 5.1 on my bro's computer. Ironically, it was detected on his 1.2 ghz AMD Athlon Thunderbird and now i'm puzzled as why it wasn't detected on mine.

What solutions have I tried?

I installed numerous drivers for both the sound blaster and the integrated sound card repeatedly and there wasn't any hope.

I re-installed the OS twice (I'm willing to do a third though)

I don't know what else I can try.. can anyone help and please don't say the mother board :[?

It doesn't pick up anything at more than an inch away from my mouth, and to get a loud noise i have to put it literally in my mouth.

I'm using the realtek HD Audio Manager as it came with my mobo. I tried changing the jacks around, but it always comes up as some sort of device incompatible or some similar error.

Regarding the headset, i'm sure it's not broken- i tried it on a laptop i have and it worked fine.

A:Both Sound Blaster Live 5.1 and Integrated Sound Card Does Not Work

Your Card

E-mail Teechnical Support for the Sound Blaster Card

The problem might just be the new board, it may not support the sound card, or maybe it really isn't plugged in all the way.

Happened to me with my Firewire card took me forever to put the dump thing in I keep pushin and pushin, but not to hard because you'll break the card and you don't want to do that.

so just keep pushin slowly it may look like it is in but it probably really isn't

I hope creative can help you with your problem.

Or ot may be the new processor/ board combination, why didn't you just get the Atholon 64 instead of the Septeron 64.

I don't think many cards are compatible with that

Hi all,

I recently bought a relatively expensive sound card on Amazon and after the second boot of my PC with the card installed and working my on board LAN card decided to not work throwing error: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
The card IS enabled in the BIOS and I HAVE disabled the on-board sound card.

LAN Adapter Details:
-Make and Model: Realtek RTL8137/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC
-Driver Provider: Realtek Semiconductor Corp.
-Driver Version: 6.112.123.2014
-Driver Date: 23/01/2014

This sounds like an IRQ problem, which is strange because modern PCs can usually resolve these conflicts automatically. But seeing that your system is a Pentium 4, maybe the motherboard is old enough to still be dealing with the issue.

One thing you could try is to perform a Clear CMOS procedure. This will force the motherboard to re-enumerate all the devices and will often solve IRQ conflicts. Note all your current BIOS settings
Shut down the computer > remove the power cord.
Remove the 3v motherboard battery.
Move the CLRTC jumper from pins 1-2 to 2-3.
Touch a metal part of the case and Press and Hold the reset button for approx. 30 seconds to discharge all power from the board.
Put the CLRTC jumper back on pins 1-2.
Replace the 3v battery > replace the power cord > boot.
Immediately go back into BIOS and reset all your preferred settings. If the CLRTC worked you will need to reset the date and time in BIOS.
If that does not work then you could try to get the 2 cards to play nice together by installing them in different locations, if you have the extra slots.

Keep in mind that when removing any card it is important to remove it from Device Manager first. Remove it from Device Manager > shut down > then physically remove the card > then restart into Windows > then you can shut down perform the next procedure.

Sometimes you can simply install the newer card in another PCI/PCIe slot and that will resolve the conflict. (You must re... Read more
