I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi.

I recently got a monitor from one of my friends saying that it was broken. Its a Dell 19in LCD. I have my main monitor a 22in Samsung wide screen So i just plugged it into the second DVI slot on my graphics Card. When i went into the display config i set up dual monitors just to see if it was working. The dell monitor would blink up then quit on me.

When i was messing with the Display settings I made the Dell. Not my Samsung the Default Monitor. I unpluged the broken Dell and restarted. Now my computer regognizes the Samsung as the second monitor and it just shuts it off and recognizes nothing as the main.

I managed to get it into safe mode and it recognized the samsung but every time i try go back to Normal Start the screen is blank.

How can i get it to recognize the Samsung as my main?

i have only one monitor, and somehow it is being treat as though its the secondary monitor in a dual monitor set up.

i cannot view my start menu, or view any programs being opened, as when i try to open them, they presumeably open on the phantom primary monitor.

even when i try to open display settings, i cannot see the box.

i am able to move my mouse to the left border of the screen and move it off into oblivion, and occasionally drag random folders and short cuts over to view.

if anyone can walk me through how to fix this (im not very good with computers, beyond playing games it would be appreciated.

im on my gf's mac right now to write this post, as my pc cant do anything at the moment.

Then all out of a sudden, it appears that my monitor is freaking out. I was seeing colors changing, green lines going up and down the screen, as if it appeared something had occurred with the monitor. I go back and forth switching VGA and DVI cables from my monitor to my compute,r with no luck. I tried restarting the computer manually a few times as well, and one time I was lucky to get back to the desktop, only to have it freeze on me and turn off. One other time it allowed me to get to the f8 f10 boot menu, but when I tried to possibly boot up in safe mode it froze again and appeared to show more freakups with the monitor.

I then took the vga cable from my monitor into my laptop, and it is working perfect. Not a problem at all so this is making me believe the computer is the problem. What could possibly affect this over night? I've never experienced anything similar to this. It's as if it is making the monitor appear that something has burned out, but in reality it is the computer that is not working correctly.

When the computer does start up, which it clearly is, my monitor is saying it does not detect the DVI / VGA. Other times, like right now, it appears as if the computer is starting up fine, but if the past 10 minutes tells me anything, it will freeze again and the computer will shut off by itself.

Hi, Yes, you can. The following link shows specs of your machine:     http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c04168240 It has 1 HDMI port, this is very handy. There are many monitors around which have HDMI port. 21" to 24" monitors are very popupar. Just go out and buy one (please check to see HDMI cable is included otherwise you have to buy a cable). Now, you can connect your laptop to the monitor, then power them up. Normally they will connect automatically, otherwsie hit F4. Regards.

Would this be installed when I get a new card or ?????

Have you installed the drivers for your grapics card of the orignal, cd, if so then do the folowing
rightclick on the desktop>properties>settings>advanced> and mess around with the settings there. It is best to note if you have a clone option on the grapics card settings then this will enable you to have a dual display

I have NVIDIA GeForce 7500 LE installed. It has double output ports: a DVI and a VGA. So I connected my VGA output with the monitor (VGA-VGA cable) and the DVI output with my TV by means of DVI-HDMI cable (my Philips HD TV has got no DVI plug in). Both connection function but:
- they only function sepatately (depends which connection is set as primary)
- it is a minor problem if I couldn`t watch them simultaneously, the TROUBLE is: if I e.g. preset my TV connection as the primary, I have to disconnect the cable from the DVI output each and every time I want to use my monitor connection, and v.v. - an impossible task if one has in mind that both outputs are situated at the back side, under my desk (beside the fact that constant dis-connectingcting would sooner or later ruin the output)
- second trouble is that the picture I get through my TV, is far too large, thus disableing the commands (as they fall outside the TV picture) ....changing resolution won`t help either-

I have heard that maybe this type of card just isn`t capable of simultaneous double connection and that maybe I should upgrade it with another driver. Computers aren`t really my speciality, so, can somebody advice what can I do.

A:Double connection TV & Monitor

The NVIDIA GeForce 7500 LE cannot run two monitors at the same time. If it could, the two ports would either be both VGA or both DVI (a "twin head" graphics card). Your NVIDIA GeForce 7500 LE merely gives you the choice of using one or the other depending on what type of input your monitor has.

Your oversized display on the TV may be because your graphics card doesn't have the correct/high-enough resolution available, especially if it's a very large (and possible widescreen) TV.

However after installing the new Nvidia drivers, the problem came back on this new LCD i switched to. So i suppose it must be some settings instead of physical hardware fault. What can cause this? I have HP Desktop Tower Pavilion with windows 10, I had two HP S2031 monitors in dual mode, worked fine. One of them died, I got a good deal on a larger HP 27er monitor.  I hooked it up, they were both working fine ... it was using a default monitor
setting ... and then yesterday the computer downloaded some updates, and in doing so, it downloaded the driver for the HP 27er and installed.  The next thing that happens is the older HP S2031 starts to go dark ... like it is going into sleep mode, and
then it is totally black.  On reboot, it starts up with both monitors working, but within seconds of reboot the HP S2031 goes black again. The HP S2031's buttons do nothing, other than the power button, which turns it off and on, but that is it.
I have done all troubleshooting, I did not even have them set up to sleep, all settings are at NEVER.  In coming here, I have done all the fixes I can find for similar  that are posted for similar issues, the Windows Key + W... nothing.
The create new power plan ... nothing.  the device manger>display adapters>disable then enable ... nothing.  and lastly Start>Control Panel>System>Device Manager>display adapter>driver tap>update ... still nothing.  HOW
DO I GET THE HP S2031 MONITOR TO NOT BE IN SLEEP AND HAVE BLACK SCREEN.  I can not figure this out and am not finding any fix.

I can bring my mouse way over to the left, and when i open windows, like internet explorer or my documents they are way over to the left. The only way i can retrieve them is if i right click down at the bottom and click move.

I was pretty sure this problem could be solved by going to the display settings, but since a bar doesn't come up for the display settings, i can't move the settings box to where i can see it.

I have an HP laptop and I have been running it with dual monitors. I finally decided to upgrade to Windows 7 and after I installed it I noticed that the built in monitor of my laptop looked strange and when I opened the display settings to change the screen resolution and set the external monitor as a separate monitor rather than a mirror I noticed that only one monitor was detected and it was the external one (Generic non-pnp monitor on standard VGA graphics adapter) and the built in monitor does NOT show up at all.

I've tried the detection button, in hopes that the computer would read the built in monitor and I could fix the problem. This did not help. I tried unplugging/replugging the external monitor to no avail. I tried restarting without the external monitor plugged in and it STILL reads the built in monitor as if it is the external one. Is there anyway to fix this? I have not tried re-installing the OS, not yet anyways.

Any suggestions ?

I was never able to get the settings to stick or to log by trying to connect to NetZero through Windows Dial Up Networking. So I just click on the NetZero Icon and I can connect with no problem except that the double monitor icon does not show up in the system tray so that I can monitor my internet connection.

I emailed NetZero and they said it is not possible to connect to NetZero using Windows Dial Up Networking.

After I log on by using the NetZero Icon I can them go to control panel> network connections> properties and check the show icon box and it will show up in the system tray.

Am I doomed to have to do this everytime I log on or is there a way to make the icon stick in the system tray?

I have two computers. The one that is running Me does not have this problem. When I log on with NetZero the system tray will show the monitor but my computer with XP will not show the monitor.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I am using a 22" screen for my primary screen and the laptop lid open for a secondary screen. The main screens resolution is 1680x1050, I can set it to anything I want and it's always using the full screen. The laptop screen on the other hand will only use the full screen if it's at 1400x1050 resolution (max for that screen, IBM Thinkpad T43). With the large 22" screen I have no trouble reading the screen at high resolutions, the screen is huge, with the little 14" screen though I have to strain to read the screen at 1400x1050.

The problem is when I set the laptop screen to anything lower than 1400x1050, it uses less of the screen. Preferrably I want it at 1280x1024 or 1024x768 (I dont know which I want yet as I can't see the freaking screen at that resolution). At 1280x1024 for instance the useable screen is just a box in the middle, so the "1280x1024" is still barely readable for me cause it's shrunk from full screen, plus it's just annoying only using a portion of the screen.

I have played with the ATI Control Center, the Thinkpad display settings and windows display settings and just cannot get this thing to go full screen at lower resolutions when docked and using the external monitor.

Anyway to resolve this?

Hi,

I have just found a double entry for the Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME graphics controller and the Plug & Play monitor in Device Manager on my Windows XP SP3 machine.

I suspect that there should only be one entry and the other thing is that the computer is very slow - checking the resources tab on the graphics driver shows both entries are using different memory resources. One entry has a full record of memory resources, IRQ, I/O range listed. The other entry has two memory resources only listed.

The question is: is it safe for me to remove one of these entries, however, since they are different can I delete both and have windows redetect and install one correct entry?

I'm assuming Windows will detect this adapter - how do I know it will as opposed to having to install it myself?

Surely the Plug and play monitor is a duplicate entry? This is a laptop and there is so second monitor in use.

Many thanks for any help

backstory:
the male side of my video cable connection (the part on the motherboard) had bent pins; the pins were unbent and the cable was able to fit back in, BUT

problems:
the picture was garbled--wrong colors, moving lines, etc. the people at a tech store told me the video cable was pinched and knowing that it had been jammed in the hinge for a while, i believed it extremely feasible. I finally ordered a new video cable but replaced it, and to no avail. the picture may have been slightly better--but not significantly if so; additionally (and im not sure if it was this way the first time as well) the computer was displaying at the size of the external.

i restarted, and reazlied that the laptop screen displayed nothing at startup, until logged in--exactly like the external. i figured that at least a portion of what was going on was the computer was sending the external screen signal to the laptop.

things i've tried:

-reseating both ends of the new video cable MANY times
-turning the computer off, taking out battery, holding start button, putitng battery back in, restarting
-every variation of screen resolution/external monitor setting
-pluggin in the external, putting laptop to sleep, unpluggnig external
-reinstalling video/image drivers

I'm tired of this problem, I've had to reinstall windows so many times because of this error because its the only solution I know of for it. I dual screen with my tv for watching movies. Later, when my tv was not currently dual screening, I noticed notepad opened into an area other than my monitor so I assumed that the tv must be connected, I went to display properties and settings and just turned off the first one I saw, and realized it was my monitor that I turned off and not my tv, and to make it worse, my tv is also not being read by it. So basically, I have a computer that doesnt want a monitor. When I start my computer, I can go to recovery console and BIOS and actually have a display, but as soon as windows boots up, the screen turns off. I tried using my keyboard to guess on where to go using tab and the arrow keys, but that failed and so Im at a loss to what to do. There has to be a way to just copy over the one windows file in recovery console for the display properties, but I dont know what it is. Any help?

Also, any other tips on checking back to point where voltage is lost would be appreciated. Could it be an adapter card?

Then i plugged the computer into a labtop, and, Black screen still.
The computer is a HP
I've tried a couple things
-Restarting it obviously
-I tried reshing CMOS or w/e, Pretty sure i did it
-Tried plugging it directly into the wall
Both the computers fans are running, And it's starting up fine, No beeping noises when it starts up, I can't try to do like disk repairs because obviously the screen is black.
It will probably take me about a week to respond to any posts back, But i will when i can.
Any other info needed?
Oh, And i belive my computer is almost 2 years old, Nivida graphic card, And the computer crashed while i was loading a game, and that started the problem.
gain, Ask me for add. info. I'll respond asap.

Weird. My monitor will go 'black' for a second and then the display returns to normal.
This can be a bit annoying if I am playing a game, it is just as if someone blips the power off for a second and then on again.
No computer freezing or anything like that so everything I was doing is normal when the display is back.
Anyone any ideas ?

No error messages, no software updates,  OS was installed when purchased. Out of date warranty. Randomly monitor goes blank. It will go off and on two times in succession then I can work again. Do I need a new monitor or a new vidio/monitor board for my tower?

Hey. Is it possible for you to enter "SAFE MODE", do you know how to do that, or do you need help with that? What operating system are you running??

A friend has asked me to install Windows 95. He gave me his computer and monitor, when I turn them on, the computer starts, however, the monitor goes to a blank screen [ no c prompt]. The monitor is connected ok and works as i swapped it with mine and all okay. I have connected mine to it and same result, just a blank screen. Unless I can get the c prompt I'm stuffed! I have floppies for video drivers but they are not much help.

My dell lcd monitor recently went blank while in use.

I turned my monitor off/ on and after a few seconds it went blank(black) again

I then rebooted my cpu, and again after a few seconds of the monitor working it went blank again.

I connected the cpu to another lcd monitor and everything worked okay.

After some research on this site and elsewhere, I've come across comments suggesting that since the cpu works with another monitor, the problem cannot be with the video/graphics card but instead the VGA cable.

Other comments suggest the inverter board for the LCD may be faulty.

In the light of the above, could anyone provide some clarification or direction on the best way to approach the blank monitor problem.

What is the VGA cable? My thinking is if it's the cable linking the monitor to the cpu, it couldn't be faulty if the same cable worked with the replacement monitor. Or does VGA only refer to the jack (connection) on back of the monitor?

If it's the inverter board, is it located in the monitor or cpu?

Again any help is most appreciated.

If everything works perfectly fine with a different monitor, then the monitor was bad. It's that simple.

Earlier today I put my computer on standby for a while. Then when I went back to my computer I moved the mouse to start the computer again, however, the tower started functioning again but there was no images on the screen. I restarted the computer again and there was still no image on the screen. I later plugged a different monitor up to my tower and the same thing happened, no image was being shown on the monitor. Do any of you have any ideas on how I may be able to troubleshoot this problem.

Try re-inserting the video card, could have come a bit loose.

My mother's Desktop seems to be having problem after problem. She's had to bring in her computer to the geek squad quite a few times for motherboard problems. She's had the motherboard replaced a few times because the screen would freeze up and also randomly shut down.

But as of recently the current problem is when you go to start her computer up the monitor just stays blank. Thinking it may have been just the monitor or monitor cord I tested it out on another computer and it worked fine. Yesterday it was working, although the black screen before the desktop showed seemed to take a bit longer to show then usual. And then today nothing.

Can someone please give some advice on what may be going on and what I should do?

She owns a HP pavilion a6514f and has Windows Vista.

Also don't know if this helps any but yesterday when it was working certain sites wouldnt load.

Enter the BIOS and change the boot order so your PC boots from your HDD first. It sounds like it's trying to boot from the CD drive instead of the hard drive.

Unless you are trying to install XP, are you?
