I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi.

I recently got a monitor from one of my friends saying that it was broken. Its a Dell 19in LCD. I have my main monitor a 22in Samsung wide screen So i just plugged it into the second DVI slot on my graphics Card. When i went into the display config i set up dual monitors just to see if it was working. The dell monitor would blink up then quit on me.

When i was messing with the Display settings I made the Dell. Not my Samsung the Default Monitor. I unpluged the broken Dell and restarted. Now my computer regognizes the Samsung as the second monitor and it just shuts it off and recognizes nothing as the main.

I managed to get it into safe mode and it recognized the samsung but every time i try go back to Normal Start the screen is blank.

How can i get it to recognize the Samsung as my main?

i have only one monitor, and somehow it is being treat as though its the secondary monitor in a dual monitor set up.

i cannot view my start menu, or view any programs being opened, as when i try to open them, they presumeably open on the phantom primary monitor.

even when i try to open display settings, i cannot see the box.

i am able to move my mouse to the left border of the screen and move it off into oblivion, and occasionally drag random folders and short cuts over to view.

if anyone can walk me through how to fix this (im not very good with computers, beyond playing games it would be appreciated.

im on my gf's mac right now to write this post, as my pc cant do anything at the moment.

Then all out of a sudden, it appears that my monitor is freaking out. I was seeing colors changing, green lines going up and down the screen, as if it appeared something had occurred with the monitor. I go back and forth switching VGA and DVI cables from my monitor to my compute,r with no luck. I tried restarting the computer manually a few times as well, and one time I was lucky to get back to the desktop, only to have it freeze on me and turn off. One other time it allowed me to get to the f8 f10 boot menu, but when I tried to possibly boot up in safe mode it froze again and appeared to show more freakups with the monitor.

I then took the vga cable from my monitor into my laptop, and it is working perfect. Not a problem at all so this is making me believe the computer is the problem. What could possibly affect this over night? I've never experienced anything similar to this. It's as if it is making the monitor appear that something has burned out, but in reality it is the computer that is not working correctly.

When the computer does start up, which it clearly is, my monitor is saying it does not detect the DVI / VGA. Other times, like right now, it appears as if the computer is starting up fine, but if the past 10 minutes tells me anything, it will freeze again and the computer will shut off by itself.

Hi, Yes, you can. The following link shows specs of your machine:     http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c04168240 It has 1 HDMI port, this is very handy. There are many monitors around which have HDMI port. 21" to 24" monitors are very popupar. Just go out and buy one (please check to see HDMI cable is included otherwise you have to buy a cable). Now, you can connect your laptop to the monitor, then power them up. Normally they will connect automatically, otherwsie hit F4. Regards.

Have you installed the drivers for your grapics card of the orignal, cd, if so then do the folowing
rightclick on the desktop>properties>settings>advanced> and mess around with the settings there. It is best to note if you have a clone option on the grapics card settings then this will enable you to have a dual display

I thought it was my LCD monitor giving the fault. So I switched my LCD with another and it works fine without the double vision. However after installing the new Nvidia drivers, the problem came back on this new LCD i switched to. So i suppose it must be some settings instead of physical hardware fault. What can cause this? It is really irritating. See attach photo.

I have NVIDIA GeForce 7500 LE installed. It has double output ports: a DVI and a VGA. So I connected my VGA output with the monitor (VGA-VGA cable) and the DVI output with my TV by means of DVI-HDMI cable (my Philips HD TV has got no DVI plug in). Both connection function but:
- they only function sepatately (depends which connection is set as primary)
- it is a minor problem if I couldn`t watch them simultaneously, the TROUBLE is: if I e.g. preset my TV connection as the primary, I have to disconnect the cable from the DVI output each and every time I want to use my monitor connection, and v.v. - an impossible task if one has in mind that both outputs are situated at the back side, under my desk (beside the fact that constant dis-connectingcting would sooner or later ruin the output)
- second trouble is that the picture I get through my TV, is far too large, thus disableing the commands (as they fall outside the TV picture) ....changing resolution won`t help either-

I have heard that maybe this type of card just isn`t capable of simultaneous double connection and that maybe I should upgrade it with another driver. Computers aren`t really my speciality, so, can somebody advice what can I do.

A:Double connection TV & Monitor

The NVIDIA GeForce 7500 LE cannot run two monitors at the same time. If it could, the two ports would either be both VGA or both DVI (a "twin head" graphics card). Your NVIDIA GeForce 7500 LE merely gives you the choice of using one or the other depending on what type of input your monitor has.

Your oversized display on the TV may be because your graphics card doesn't have the correct/high-enough resolution available, especially if it's a very large (and possible widescreen) TV.

I have HP Desktop Tower Pavilion with windows 10, I had two HP S2031 monitors in dual mode, worked fine. One of them died, I got a good deal on a larger HP 27er monitor.  I hooked it up, they were both working fine ... it was using a default monitor
setting ... and then yesterday the computer downloaded some updates, and in doing so, it downloaded the driver for the HP 27er and installed.  The next thing that happens is the older HP S2031 starts to go dark ... like it is going into sleep mode, and
then it is totally black.  On reboot, it starts up with both monitors working, but within seconds of reboot the HP S2031 goes black again. The HP S2031's buttons do nothing, other than the power button, which turns it off and on, but that is it.
I have done all troubleshooting, I did not even have them set up to sleep, all settings are at NEVER.  In coming here, I have done all the fixes I can find for similar  that are posted for similar issues, the Windows Key + W... nothing.
The create new power plan ... nothing.  the device manger>display adapters>disable then enable ... nothing.  and lastly Start>Control Panel>System>Device Manager>display adapter>driver tap>update ... still nothing.  HOW
DO I GET THE HP S2031 MONITOR TO NOT BE IN SLEEP AND HAVE BLACK SCREEN.  I can not figure this out and am not finding any fix.

I can bring my mouse way over to the left, and when i open windows, like internet explorer or my documents they are way over to the left. The only way i can retrieve them is if i right click down at the bottom and click move.

I was pretty sure this problem could be solved by going to the display settings, but since a bar doesn't come up for the display settings, i can't move the settings box to where i can see it.

Edit: I have windows xp

I have an HP laptop and I have been running it with dual monitors. I finally decided to upgrade to Windows 7 and after I installed it I noticed that the built in monitor of my laptop looked strange and when I opened the display settings to change the screen resolution and set the external monitor as a separate monitor rather than a mirror I noticed that only one monitor was detected and it was the external one (Generic non-pnp monitor on standard VGA graphics adapter) and the built in monitor does NOT show up at all.

I've tried the detection button, in hopes that the computer would read the built in monitor and I could fix the problem. This did not help. I tried unplugging/replugging the external monitor to no avail. I tried restarting without the external monitor plugged in and it STILL reads the built in monitor as if it is the external one. Is there anyway to fix this? I have not tried re-installing the OS, not yet anyways.

Any suggestions ?

I was never able to get the settings to stick or to log by trying to connect to NetZero through Windows Dial Up Networking. So I just click on the NetZero Icon and I can connect with no problem except that the double monitor icon does not show up in the system tray so that I can monitor my internet connection.

I emailed NetZero and they said it is not possible to connect to NetZero using Windows Dial Up Networking.

After I log on by using the NetZero Icon I can them go to control panel> network connections> properties and check the show icon box and it will show up in the system tray.

Am I doomed to have to do this everytime I log on or is there a way to make the icon stick in the system tray?

I have two computers. The one that is running Me does not have this problem. When I log on with NetZero the system tray will show the monitor but my computer with XP will not show the monitor.

I am using a 22" screen for my primary screen and the laptop lid open for a secondary screen. The main screens resolution is 1680x1050, I can set it to anything I want and it's always using the full screen. The laptop screen on the other hand will only use the full screen if it's at 1400x1050 resolution (max for that screen, IBM Thinkpad T43). With the large 22" screen I have no trouble reading the screen at high resolutions, the screen is huge, with the little 14" screen though I have to strain to read the screen at 1400x1050.

The problem is when I set the laptop screen to anything lower than 1400x1050, it uses less of the screen. Preferrably I want it at 1280x1024 or 1024x768 (I dont know which I want yet as I can't see the freaking screen at that resolution). At 1280x1024 for instance the useable screen is just a box in the middle, so the "1280x1024" is still barely readable for me cause it's shrunk from full screen, plus it's just annoying only using a portion of the screen.

I have played with the ATI Control Center, the Thinkpad display settings and windows display settings and just cannot get this thing to go full screen at lower resolutions when docked and using the external monitor.

Anyway to resolve this?

Hi,

I have just found a double entry for the Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME graphics controller and the Plug & Play monitor in Device Manager on my Windows XP SP3 machine.

I suspect that there should only be one entry and the other thing is that the computer is very slow - checking the resources tab on the graphics driver shows both entries are using different memory resources. One entry has a full record of memory resources, IRQ, I/O range listed. The other entry has two memory resources only listed.

The question is: is it safe for me to remove one of these entries, however, since they are different can I delete both and have windows redetect and install one correct entry?

I'm assuming Windows will detect this adapter - how do I know it will as opposed to having to install it myself?

Surely the Plug and play monitor is a duplicate entry? This is a laptop and there is so second monitor in use.

Many thanks for any help

this is a many faceted and increasing in facets issue (ill try to make it as short as possible);

backstory:
the male side of my video cable connection (the part on the motherboard) had bent pins; the pins were unbent and the cable was able to fit back in, BUT

problems:
the picture was garbled--wrong colors, moving lines, etc. the people at a tech store told me the video cable was pinched and knowing that it had been jammed in the hinge for a while, i believed it extremely feasible. I finally ordered a new video cable but replaced it, and to no avail. the picture may have been slightly better--but not significantly if so; additionally (and im not sure if it was this way the first time as well) the computer was displaying at the size of the external.

i restarted, and reazlied that the laptop screen displayed nothing at startup, until logged in--exactly like the external. i figured that at least a portion of what was going on was the computer was sending the external screen signal to the laptop.

things i've tried:

-reseating both ends of the new video cable MANY times
-turning the computer off, taking out battery, holding start button, putitng battery back in, restarting
-every variation of screen resolution/external monitor setting
-pluggin in the external, putting laptop to sleep, unpluggnig external
-reinstalling video/image drivers

I'm tired of this problem, I've had to reinstall windows so many times because of this error because its the only solution I know of for it. I dual screen with my tv for watching movies. Later, when my tv was not currently dual screening, I noticed notepad opened into an area other than my monitor so I assumed that the tv must be connected, I went to display properties and settings and just turned off the first one I saw, and realized it was my monitor that I turned off and not my tv, and to make it worse, my tv is also not being read by it. So basically, I have a computer that doesnt want a monitor. When I start my computer, I can go to recovery console and BIOS and actually have a display, but as soon as windows boots up, the screen turns off. I tried using my keyboard to guess on where to go using tab and the arrow keys, but that failed and so Im at a loss to what to do. There has to be a way to just copy over the one windows file in recovery console for the display properties, but I dont know what it is. Any help?

I started to have problems a couple months ago. I just have not had alot of time to try and fix it. The computer went out. The first thing I tried was the power supply, which seemed to be the problem. The computer went back to working, but alas, not for very long. I checked it again, and though the computer goes on, and the power supply fan is going, I now get nothing on the monitor, and also noticed there are no lights on the keyboard.

I tried hooking up another monitor, that I know works, and it also was blank. I hear no beeps or anything when I go to start it up. I cannot get into bios, or safemode or anything, because I cannot see anything. I did try all of the F keys, and nothing helped.

Any suggestions on what I could check next?

Thank You!

When I turn on my computer, the monitor seems to try and turn on then goes blank. I tried using another monitor and the same thing happens. Does this mean something is wrong with my computer?

A:Why is my monitor blank

Probably.... It could be a number of things.

1st off, what type of machine is it? Laptop, PC? Do you have any Specs on it?

Does it make the little "beep" like it's booting?

Can you hear any action inside - fans spinning, any lights on, Hard Drive noise.

The more info we have, the better we can hopefully help.

Hi guys.

A friend of mine brought his pc to me. I built it for him 11 months ago. It worked all that

time without a fault. A few days ago he switches his pc on, power and harddrive leds come

on, dvd-rw led blinks once too, led on the monitor turns green ...for 5 seconds, then

monitor goes back to standby. Pc doesn't continue to boot. I do not hear harddrives to spin

or anything. All fans inside keep on running. Led indicator near RAM slots, is on.

I have no clue what's up with the old horse.

I got another PSU, connected it only to motherboard. the same picture. No beeps for missing

floppies, or bad RAM or bad Video. No signal on monitor except that the led turns green for

a couple of seconds.

With the psu which is inside the case, I disconnected everything except RAM. Nothing new.
I swapped RAM slots, put it into new slots, try to do with one stick, then with another.

Nothing new.

First of all, I took off the Video, expecting motherboard to beep, Nothing.

I suspect something terrible happened to motherboard, or CPU.
Maybe something else. I don't know.

It is P4, 2.4GH with HP, 2x256 crucial, Gigabyte GA-8IK1100, chipset Intel 875P, 2 HD -

1200JB and 800JB, DVD-RW LG 4040B. Antec case and PSU 350W true power. on board Audio. Video

- Geforce 5600 128M MSI.

Any idea?

Try toggling the capslock or numlock, if the lights won't go off and on then it is not POSTing, since you seem to have removed everything from the problem except the mobo or CPU, one of those is the likely culprit.

3 year old HP desktop and HP Pavilion 22 xi flat screen monitor. Few days after Windows 10 update monitor started going blank in the middle of use. No error msg / warning and no cursor, etc, shown. Monitor power light stays on and unable to switch off manually. Solution is to unplug and replug monitor. Taken back to screen I left without loss of work. This has continued for a few weeks now and monitor will function for say first 20 mins of the day without going black. The longer system is in use the worse it gets. Eg went off 9 times in one hour. Connections all checked. Microsoft and HP drivers up to date. Norton reinstalled and I'm told that is not the cause of problem. I am trying to borrow another monitor / cable to test, but any suggestions will be appreciated please.

Last night in the middle of gaming, my husbands year and a half old, Sceptre Monitor, X9s-Naga II model, just went blank. The green LED light stays on, but there is no picture. The cables are plugged in correclty, there are no pins missing from teh signel cable, there are no nicks in teh cords. The cables work fine on my pc/monitor, however when i hook his moniter up to my computer it does the same. Turns on for a moment, (1 sec) then goes blank. My moniter works fine on his computer. I really am at my wits end, the warrenty just expired and im having a really hard time getting ahold of the maker of the company to find out what could be the problem.

Please if you have any suggestions help!

A:Monitor going blank.

if it works fine on another computer then it obviously your own machine. im guessing its the graphics card, so try swapping it with the other computer only if you know what your doing and see what happens. the rest hopefully shouldnt be too dificult from then on ^^

A:Monitor becomes Blank

Perhaps the PC itself is dying?

When it happens next, try tapping the caps Lock key and seeing if the Caps light goes On and Off each tap.

Thats a reasonable indication that the PC itself is still running.

If the light does not go on and off each tap of the key, its a good indication that the problem is within the PC and not the monitor or video card.

My monitor remains blank on boot up. When I disconnect it from the computer the "no signal" message comes up, so I am assuming that the monitor itself is OK. On one occasion it worked after several successive bootings. On another it worked when I disconnected a USB hub that I recently added to a USB port. What could be the problem? Thanks in advance.

A:monitor blank

Either try another monitor on your computer or try your monitor on another computer. This will help isolate the problem.

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers for the video card and also the monitor.

Look in device manager also to see if there are any conflicts. yellow ? or !

My windows 7 has been a complete nightmare. Upgrade from Vista, didn't work since it got stuck and the rollback to vista was corrupted. I lost all my data, but that's not why I am here.

After cursing at Microsoft I did a complete fresh install of windows 7. It seemed to work except for this freak error. My monitor goes blank when windows 7 starts after the installation has finished.

I get an image "Windows is starting" but then it just goes blank. I got a nvidia 9600gt.

I can get an image by plugging in my projector with a vga/dvi connector. With this I downloaded the nvidia drivers but windows seven just fails to regocnize my monitors. I have tried with another lcd with dvi, but all it recognizes is the projector.

I have tried reinstalling. Same problem, when windows 7 starts, if I got an LCD plugged in which have worked fine during the whole installallation it just goes dead when it's finished... and all that works is the stupid projector with vga/dvi adapter if I plug it in.

Any advice what to do now? After messing with windows 7 for 24 hours I feel like I am on candid camera.

A:Monitor goes blank

If VGA devices work but DVI devices don't, it sounds like you still need to find the right video driver. First, make sure you didn't download a driver with the wrong bit architecture (32- vs. 64-bit). What model is your Nvidia card?

You definitely don't need to drain your energy reinstalling over and over - just get comfortable using the projector for now, and maybe move your PC to a dark room until we figure out a solution.

Okay I have 3 systems in our house. My wifes seems to be the one with the biggest issues (hmm coincidence? maybe)

Anyway she has auto update enabled on her system. Last night her system auto updated before it shutdown last night. This morning, when she powered up her screen remains off. Its not recieving any video signal from the PC. It remains off from power up, so its not even recieving a signal before the OS is loaded.

I have checked the power. It has some.
I have swapped the cable between the two graphic connectors and the main board connector. No result.
I have swapped cable into my laptop on dual display. Monitor works fine.

Now obviously this could be a gfx card issue, but i doubt it. I suspect the updates have done something they shouldnt have, as the monitor was working fine last night.

Im open to suggestions?

.

A:Blank Monitor

Do you have a boot CD? Something like an XP CD, live Linux distro or UBCD? If so, try booting the computer using the CD and see if the monitor gets a signal. If it does then you have a Windows software issue. If not then the gfx card is probably the culprit.

a couple of days ago my new lcd monitor went blank. when i reboot i do get the boot info on screen after that it goes blank. my first thought was my video card. replacing it in the same pci express slot with a new card didn't work. next i replaced the monitor still nothing. i have tried running it with both a dvi & serial cable.

btw the computer was bought at the end of 06 with XP loaded. still running XP.

what are possible causes. my next guess is a bad motherboard or the unlikely event of a second bad monitor.

i haven't tried using a crt since last week i gave my old 1 away since the new computer was running beautifully.

thanks in advance.

Does the power-on LED stay green or orange when it goes blank? Are you getting the "No Signal" message on the screen at all? Were you running the recommended resolution? Can you get as far as entering the BIOS of safemode. Don't mean to ramble, just asking
