Wifi issue specific to my laptop and home wifi

Q: Wifi issue specific to my laptop and home wifi

I have issues connecting my Laptop to the Wifi router in my house, however, there are no issues connecting to other routers? You would therefore assume that the issue lies with the router at my house. However, every other device and laptop connects to the router at my house with no issues at all. So it seems to be specific to the combination of my laptop and the router at my house. I have been having these issues ever since I downloaded Windows 10. I fixed it initially by downloading an old driver for the Wifi on my laptop. This fix lasted for about 3 months but since the latest windows update, the issue has come back. The issue is intermittent wifi where it shows I am connected to the Wifi but then the internet doesn't work. It says "DNS probe cannot be found" when running troubleshooter and then it resets the wifi on my laptop. This can temporalily fix it, sometimes for 2 seconds. Sometimes for 2 hours. But then the issue comes back. Does anyone have any clue what the issue might be or how I might fix it? Sometimes, when I run the troubleshooter, it says that I have missing protocols. But then this doesn't happen every time. I have tried a variety of fixes that I have read up on in forums but none seem to work permantly. One thing I haven't tried is a clean install of windows 10 which is something I am very reluctant to do and also, have my doubts as to whether it would actually resolve the issue.
Many thanks,
Joe

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

It all depends on location, location, location. Some Gateways are just garbage. If you are not getting a strong enough signal, get an Access Point. Also you need to make sure that you are not on a congested channel, which is usually Channels 6 & 11 for 2.4 Ghz units.

I've read through hundreds of posts trying to figure out my issue. Unfortunately, I've been unsuccessful.

Here's the issue, I was given a new laptop for work and it connects fine to our secure wireless network at the office, but when I brought it home it will not connect to my wireless network at home.

When I try to connect to my network at home the wireless manager sits and spins saying "trying to acquire network address". I have 2 iPhones, 1 eMachine and 1 Macbook connected to my network working fine and dandy. However, the HP laptop from work simply won't connect unless wired.

I have tried the following:
1. Uninstalled and reinstalled the driver.
2. Power Cycled my Router
3. Power Cycled my entire network
4. WinsockXPFix tool

I'm completely at a loss here. No idea what to do to fix this. I'm running Windows XP and have a 2Wire router.

I appreciate any advice anyone can give me to help solve this annoyance.

I noticed that recently my computer has been having problems connecting to my specific home WiFi. I first noticed when I randomly lost connection at home, so like anyone I checked my phone to see if it was only my computer, to my suprise it was only in my computer where I was unable to access the WiFi. It would connect then randomly disconnect and it would keep doing this on its own. I would connect randomly and quickly disconnect. I tried troubleshooting, and it would say that a network cable was broken, and that it was fixed. But it clearly wasn't. I am able to connect with other WiFis, be it at school or a cafe or even my phone's hotspot. The only solution I have found is that I HAVE to restart my modem at home EVERY SINGLE TIME I want to connect. Which has become very annoying, for me and for my roomate as my laptop is the only device facing this problem and only with this WiFi. But once I restart it is as if it never had this problem. Only to recur when I leave my house and come back home. I have tried uninstalling the WiFi driver and reinstalling, as well as manually reinstalling the most recent WiFi driver, but none have been succesful in fixing this problem. What is really odd is that this problem only began a few days ago, when I have had this computer for years, as well as only to this specific WiFi.

Hello everyone!

I don't usually go the "beg for help on an unknown forum" route but I'm clearly out of my depth on this issue and hours of furious Googling and tweaking have not helped me one bit.

What I'm trying to do is trying to setup file sharing between 2 computers connected by an ethernet cable.
So far so good, except those 2 computers are ALSO part of a Wifi network to connect to the internet through a wireless router. There are other computers on this network (other roommates) that must NOT have access to anything shared on either on those 2 computers.

I've tried fiddling with homegroups but the only homegroups we can create are on the WiFi network. If I set the LAN connection to anything else but public by setting PC2 as a default gateway, I can't get access to the internet anymore.

How on earth can I set that up properly, if that's even possible?

EDIT: my brain is so close to imploding that I forgot basic curtesy-

Of course, thank you in advance for your help.

Sounds to me like you are using ICS to create a secondary wired connection for the second machine.

You need to use the LAN ports on the router or a switch rather than sharing a connection using ICS "internet connection sharing". Homegroups won't work with ICS.

Once you are connected to the router with a regular LAN connection with both machines, you should have no problems setting up a Homegrou... Read more

Hello guys, I'm new here, and I know that this sounds like a duplicate thread, but I couldn't find anything similar to this one.  I have said laptop with the Intel wireless card (7260) running Windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.04. I'm on the go quite often so I have connected to several wifi routers with no issues.  And there is my home. I am rarely here, but when I get here I can connect to my wifi router (2.4 GHz), but often experiencing unusually high pings (above 1000 ms). This happens on both OS-esI have the latest wireless driversIn Windows Device Manager I set everything I could to max the wifi performanceNo other device has this issue (two laptops, two smartphones, an USB wifi stick on my home network (not simultaneously of course))The environment should not be an issue. The router is 6-7 meters away, with two walls between the router and the laptop. I have an older Lenovo laptop next to this one (G580) and it has no issues at all. The laptop does not have this issue with other devicesThe issue is with the connection between the laptop and the router (I tried reaching the router's config site, same slowness)The network properties say that my connection link's speed is 27/27 MBPS, sometimes less, sometimes more, but I always have a strong signal There is only one other wifi router nearby and that's on a different channel. It is starting to get really annoying, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone.

I'm building a website right now and since yesterday, it seems that it won't load on my laptop, and only my laptop. I use a wifi network with this laptop.
The website is http://infocom.ca/rea-pathologies, and the error it gives is "Connection timed out".
I tried on Chrome, Firefox and Explorer, and I get the same problem

Here is a list of everything I tried, and all the information I could gather :
I tried loading the website on my smartphone (Galaxy S4), both with LTE and Wifi, it worked both times.
I tried loading the website on my laptop using my smartphone as a wifi access point, and it worked.
I tried pinging the website, it works. I tried loading the IP it returns in Chrome, but it won't work.
I tried rebooting my modem and my router, without success.
I reconfigured my router (D-Link, DIR-655), without success.
I checked the HOST file in system32, there is nothing there related to infocom.ca. I tried forcing the proper IP on infocom.ca, no success.
I tried ipconfig /flushdns, /release, /renew
I tried using both auto-detect DNS, OpenDNS and Google DNS in my IPv4 and IPv6 settings, with no success.
I tried the diagnostic tool, tells me everyting is fine.
I tried turning off Windows firewall, nothing happened.
I scanned my PC with Anti Spywares, without results
I tried everything the user SLOOKSTERPSV suggests on this post, without success: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1750739.html

About a week ago, our cable internet connection went out. Before I had a chance to reboot the modem & router, my 11 year old decided to completely reset the router to factory settings! Ugh! This caused several issues: my home network is now gone, only a unsecured factory network is available. When I try to plug my laptop into the router via ethernet cord (in order to login to router and setup secure network) my computer will not recognize the router and won't connect to internet. I tried troubleshooting with my cable provider and they say it's in my computer (IP address will not reset) and he recommended I replace my network card. However, today when I brought my laptop to work, it will instantly recognize the wifi at work. So is it really my network card that is causing issues? Please help, I'm desperate and not tech too tech savvy!

hello.

i have cable internet that is connected to a belkin wireless router. one computer gets slow internet access when connected to this. multiple other computers get better speed. the one affected computer gets fast speeds when accessing the internet at other locations, like a friend's house. also, the affected computer gets fast speeds when connected to the router by a cable.

so the problem seems to be very specific to the connection between these specific devices.

the laptop in question is a thinkpad e420 running windows 7.

Hi there,

I have a new problem that has just cropped up today. I am no longer able to connect to public wifi or my phone's wireless hotspot. My laptop either will not connect or connect with limited access. It has connected without issue in the past and as soon as I returned home it connected to my wifi here.

What I did notice is I am connected to an unidentified network with no internet access in addition to my home wireless network:
Specs:
Acer Aspire S7 392
Windows 8.1 64 bit
Intel Dual Band Wireless 7260 (driver updated)
Disabled my firewall and antivirus

I just connected to my phone's hotspot again and here is what I am coming up with:
Attachment 57082

And when I run ipconfig/renew
Attachment 57083

Any ideas what could be causing this?

I upgraded my friends HP laptop to Windows 10. The issue now is I can't enable Wifi. The card is recognized correctly in Device manager and no issues is found with it. It looks like it is fine. However in the Network Settings WLAN is set to "Off" and when I try to turn it on it always jumps right back to off. eg. I can't enable it.

HP is now help as they clearly state any laptop bought prior to specific date in 2013 will not get any driver updates from their side for windows 10. (Guys, never buy HP again please...). And updating through device manager only tells me it's the newest driver available.

The Wifi card i Broadcom 4313GN card. I searched for win 10 drivers but did not find anything. They only offer linux drivers on their homepage...

So can anyone either provide a solution to the issue or link to a win 1' driver for this wifi card?

I have an HP Spectre x360 laptop that was purchased with Windows 10 approximately 3 months ago. For the first several weeks I had no issues connecting to the internet using my home wireless router. Then something went wrong because now I am having issues connecting to the internet. At times I will connect for a few seconds and then get "No internet" and other times I cannot connect at all. I have restored my machine to factory settings multiple times and removed the McAfee anti-virus software from the laptop. I've also removed and reinstalled the latest network driver multiple times.

When I use the troubleshooting feature it tells me there are missing network components. I generated a event log report and the last event that caused a disconnect reads as follows:

WLAN AutoConfig service has successfully disconnected from a wireless network.

Reason: The network is disconnected by the driver.

I've tried to connect to the internet using a couple other home wireless routers and get the same negative result. Although, I am able to connect to the internet successfully using my Verizon Hotspot and through a secure WPA2 connection.

I'm running Windows 10 Version 1511. My network driver is Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 7265. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I need to please ask that you be patient with me as I have an extremely limited knowledge of computers or laptops, so I am actually struggling to even word this question correctly! I have an HP G60 laptop with Windows XP.

I had WiFi installed at my university digs, and I believe I am the main laptop through which the internet connection runs. My parents have recently had a WiFi (Netgear router) installed on their home computer , but I am unable to connect to the internet through my laptop. i was told that as my laptop IP address was set to my university WiFi connection, all i had to do was reset my laptop's IP address and I would be able to connect to my parents WiFi.. However I am really unsure of how to do this, and am also concerned that if I do so I will be unable to connect my Uni WiFi once I return! Or even if this in indeed the problem!

Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

So basically got my school laptop yesterady, the internet worked fine at school but when I came home it wouldn't work. When I came to school again today it worked, when I came home again it wouldn't.

The internet connection showed that it was connected () but I don't got internet acess. Some restarts I have internet (pretty slow) just on the beginning, sometimes pages just loads forever or very long without connecting and sometimes it just loads a little bit and says network error.

I've been working with trying to fix it all day yesterday and like one hour today, and now I just want to get it done so I came here to make a thread. My network is fine with the computers/telephones in my house so it's not the router.

I've tried to use the windows network error checking tool, it just says that the strandard gateway isn't available (which is not getting automatically resolved) and it identifies a problem aswell that the connection between the router and internet has disconnected.

I have tried to...

* Restarted
* Changing battery network card settings to high priority
* Disconnecting, reconnecting
* Re-typing wifi password
* Deactivating ipv6
* Using a DNS
* Few CMD commands
* Changing an option called "dulex/rulex someting" or something that tells how much mb/s you should receive (or something like that) from router to automatically detect to 100mb/s, didn't make any difference either
..and more

A:New laptop, can't connect to wifi at home but can at school

This is quite simple - The School is using a proxy within Internet Explorer. You must have admin rights for this to work.

On Internet Explorer, - Tools - Internet Options - Connections - LAN Settings - Untick the bottom box (Proxy)

Close and re-open IE, everything should be working.

Make sure you make a note as you will need to re-tick the box when you're next at school.

At Best Buy they said that there's nothing wrong with my laptop. I'm past the return policy and only have manufactures warranty. It works on other wifi. Also other devices connect to the home wifi just fine.My laptop used to work on the wifi. Something popped up saying there's a problem and Windows can automatically fix it, so I let it. Ever since when I try to connect it'll say connecting is taking longer than usual. And then it says can't connect to network. The Internet at my house is HughesNet, and the router is Belkin, but what I don't get is why my laptop connected to the wifi just fine before but now it doesn't.I rebooted it before I went to Best Buy, but that didn't fix the problem. But like I said, they said that my laptop has no problem. They said that it might be the Internet Service Provider or the wireless router. Every other device connects just fine still. And my laptop connects to other wifi still. I'm at a loss here.

Check in Device Manager that the WIFI driver is there and doesn't have a yellow question mark by it.Even though other devices connect, unplug your router for a minute and plug back in, start the laptop.Find your laptop here:http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers and check for a newer driver.Download whatever driver is there, uninstall the driver in Programs and Features and Device Manager, checking delete software and reboot.Install the new driver.

I have just got a new laptop for my wife, and am having problems connecting to my home wifi.  Work wifi, and android hotspot is perfectly fine. Laptop is a 250 G4 (i3 8GB Ram, Windows 10), with a Realtek RTL8723BE 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi Adapter. It's connecting to a BT Home Hub.  Everytime I connect to the wifi (wired is fine) I get a 'No Internet, secured' status. All other devices inthe house can connect fine, inc a Windows 10 tablet. The HP Laptop connects on my works wifi and my android hotspot, just not the BT Home Hub. I've tried updating the drivers, and factory resetting the laptop. Has anyone come across this, or have any ideas I can try before I send the laptop back?

Hi all!

I'm having a bit of a trouble with my eMachines netbook M250. I was going to contact their customer support, but for some reason their services kept telling me that "That serial number is not in our database".
I'm hoping you guys can help me!

I have 3 laptops and a desktop PC. Two of my laptops are connected through wireless and my Desktop PC through a cable. Now this small isnt finding the wireless network my other computer are connected to. It has found all other wireless networks, tons of them (neighbors, city wifi, etc), but just cant find my home wifi.

I have reinstalled windows XP and reinstalled the wireless drivers. Also checked that they're the newest out there.

EDIT: I found a solution to this problem. Once I changed the Channel Selection settings from my router from Auto to 1 (out of 13), My laptop could find the wifi!
After changing it back to "Auto" it loses the connection to the wifi. The "Auto" selection chooses channel 13, which is the channel with the least noise, according to the channel scanner of the router.
Is there any cause to worry that I have chosen Channel 1? Why cant my laptop find the wifi when the router is set to Channel 13?

Thanks,
dertzi

A:One Laptop can't find home WiFi, All other laptops can

the US are only allowed to use channel 1 to 11 and some machines sold still have that restriction - Europe can use 1-13 - hence the router is switching to 13

there maybe a setting in the wireless adapter properties to allow you to use channels 12 & 13 (Japan are allowed to use 14)

goto device manager and network adapters and right click on the adapter - choose properties and see if anything there helps

Lets see the wireless networks and channels in use - use xirrus and post a screen shot

channels 1, 6 and 11 are the most common used, as they do not overlap - so wee need to look at signals greater than -80 and see what channels are in use around you

Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply

I have two laptops here at home that I run through a wireless router for my internet. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite series laptop running Windows Vista and is giving me absolutely no problems whatsoever. My wife's on the other hand is losing connection from the internet about every hour or so. It's not happening at any certain interval but sporadic. When this happens she has to use the Repair my Connection option several times to get the internet back working again. Her laptop is a Sony Vaio running Windows Vista 64 bit.

I wondered to start with if the 64 bit was the problem. I've updated my routers internal software. It's a Netgear wireless router. Anything else I need to add? Help?

A:hp laptop not detecting home wifi network

Hello @rohitseth21 , Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand you're having connection issues on your 15-R005TX notebook.If the notebook sees the hotspot but doesnt see the routers SSID you might be better off inquiring with your Internet Service Provider or router manufacturer. Here are some steps you can try. Powercycle the network:1. Shut down your notebook.2. Unplug the power to your router.3. Unplug the power to your modem.4. Wait at least 45 seconds.5. Plug in the modem, and wait for it to come back online.6. Plug in the router, and wait for it to come back online.7. Turn on your notebook, and test your connection.Reset the TCP/IP settings on your PC:1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.3. In the window that opens type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without quotes, and press enter.4. Restart your PC and test.It may also help to reset the winsock catalogue:1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.3. In the window that opens type "netsh winsock reset" without quotes, and press enter.4. Restart your PC and test.Reinstall the network adapter drivers:1. Download the drivers from here but do not run them yet.2. Go to your start screen/menu and type Device Manager.3. Expand Network adapters.4. Right click on the wireless adapter and choose Uninstall.5. Run the downloaded ... Read more

Hi, I purchased a new laptop that has windows 10. My home PC has windows 8. I am wondering if this is the reason why on the new laptop I cannot connect to the home wifi for more than a couple of minutes before it disconnects and the internet connection is no longer available on the laptop.

Or could there be another reason why the new dell laptop won't connect to wifi. I have followed all troubleshooting instructions but nothing is working.

When I try to enable wifi on the laptop it stays on disabled.

Thanks for any help.

Melanie.

Although I am connected to our wireless network on the Folio 13, there is no internet connection. I can, however, connect to the internet via Wifi on two other household laptops, both of them HP, so I believe the problem is with the Folio itself. I can also connect to other computers on the network on the Folio, but something is preventing it from getting on the internet. I can only get the internet via hardwired ethernet connection on the Folio. I have tried the following fixes, multiple times, without success: -Run the Windows troubleshooter for Internet/Network. It says the connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the internet is broken. (But not on other wifi computers here--works fine.)-Reboot/Reset the modem.-Disable/Renable the wifi adapter (Intel Centrino Wireless N 1030)-Update wifi adapter driver (it says driver is up to date)-Uninstall/reinstall wifi adapter-Remove Wifi Network from list of available networks; reboot, add this network back in-Roll back all Windows updates from the past month-Searched self-help forums for a possible solution And yes, the wifi keyboard light is blue, not orange. Can someone help please?

1) Wireless connection issue. I believe wired works -- haven't tried lately -- but the major problems are wireless.

2) ISP: XfinityWifi hotspots and/or in-house router sharing said hotpot.

3) Conn type: Cable

4) Router: D-Link DIR-651

5) AV/etc: McAfee (out of date), MSE (not genuine anymore, thus disabled)

6) ipconfig /all output included below.

7) Xirrus wi-fi inspector: Downloaded on my desktop computer, USBdrived over to laptop, installed, run, screenshot attached. skmk is my in-house network; xfinitywifi is a bit too weak, but that's not the issue with this laptop.

Basic issue may well be an OS file corruption issue, as Dell support threw up their hands and suggested a clean Win7 install. Install repair hasn't helped.

Laptop is a Dell Latitude D630 or thereabouts, 4GB RAM, Win7 Pro 64, SP1. Onboard NIC is Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN, 9/30/2012 driver v 15.3.1.2 from Intel.

Adapter is enabled, but fails to find any networks at all. Complete removal/redetection/reinstall of device makes no difference, nor do latest NIC drivers. Under Manage Wireless Networks, the "Add" and "Adapter properties" buttons do nothing, and under Network and Sharing Center, "Set up a new..." and "Connect to a network" are similarly unresponsive.

I also have a Belkin 54G USB wifi adapter, which works perfectly in other computers, but it too finds no networks in the laptop. Previously, after the onboard NIC went unrespo... Read more

If wireless are enabled then perhaps check services.msc for WLAN AutoConfig (automatic - started). Your repair install should have taken care of this though so not very hopeful.

A couple months ago, I upgraded my cable modem to DOCSIS3.0, and just yesterday upgraded my WiFi router. I also changed the WiFi security settings and went around to all my devices to make sure they were accessing properly.

The weird thing is that all of the network devices were able to connect and work properly except one laptop.

Dell Lattitude D820
Windows XP Home SP3

The wireless network card seems to be working properly in connecting to the network, as I can type in direct (numeric) IP addresses and see the router and modem, but this machine has no Internet connection. Under LAN & Network connections, there is no internet connection listed. So far, I've tried:

Tried to "Add a Connection" - still not showing an internet connection
Updated the Driver for the 1390 wireless card - now matches Dells most current version

Any ideas?

A:Upgraded home wifi and now laptop has no internet connection

DOH!
I found the setting.

Under the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) settings, I had "Use the following DNS server" checked.
The DNS server changed with the new router.
I updated the DNS server and things are working again - (I could have also used "Obtain DNS server automatically").
