When I put in the original charger to my ThinkPad E555 after pressing the power button, I get a message the wrong charger is connected. But when connected later or when off the laptop charges fine. A BIOS bug? I have BIOS 1.18 and WIndows 10.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi I've been using my X220i for the last 3 years or so and decided to upgrade to an i7 X230 a few days ago. After a few days of no problems, using the same charger I've been using on my X220 (the 90w slim travel charger) I plugged it in to charge while the laptop was powered on. The laptop powered off instantly and now it will not power on again. There are no status lights visible and nothing happens when I plug it in. I have done all the steps of removing the battery and pressing the power button etc and on putting the battery back in the fingerprint sensor light was flickering orange - it is now back to no signs of life at all again other than the left side of the palmrest gets hot when I insert the battery. I am strongly suspecting a fault with the charger fried the motherboard when I plugged it in but am wondering if anyone else has any suggestions before i try to make a claim within my remaining 1 week of warranty. Thnaks

Its really annoying to have your laptop restart whenever I have to plug it in. (My laptop is almost 3 years old but the problem came up after 2 years i believe.  Suggestions are welcome!!!!!!!

First of all, thank you very much for all your previous help. I'm back with more difficulties.

My laptop (HP Envy dv7) recently forced a Windows 8.1 update. Ever since, whenever I plug or unplug the charger, the screen goes black for a second or two. Troubleshooting didn't fix it? Help is much appreciated.

A:Temporary black screen (un)plugging charger

That means your display driver is not usable for windows 8 and windows 8.1. I would advise you to download and install Windows 7 display driver in compatibility mode and review if it helps.
There are few steps to set up window 7 display driver

Install & download display driver
Right click on the driver & go the properties
Select compatibility’ tab and test the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for” and click Windows 7 operating system from the drop down.
Finally click on button ”apply” then “ok” and run the file to install it

The past few days, my laptop has been freezing after about 20 minutes (lately the amount of time has been decreasing to now about 15 minutes). First it would only freeze if it went idle but now it's freezing randomly. It would only freeze when I plug in my charger.

I replaced my adapter to see if that was the problem, but it wasn't. I also tried changing my set up so that my computer wouldn't sleep but still, it would freeze. I also launched CCleaner to try and clean up my registry and though it did fix up some problems, yes once again, my laptop would freeze.

I installed several anti-virus/malware programs as well but none of them seemed to work. They wouldn't detect anything through quick scan but once I try full scan, it would freeze. I tried going into safe mode, but before making it in, my laptop would stop and go into regular mode. And just a few minutes ago, I got the blue screen of death.

Please help!

You'll want to give the system a deep scan with a malware removed - the free version of malwarebytes will clean up the system just fine.

I was wondering if anyone is familiar with a method to enable sounds for when you plug in or remove a charger connected to your laptop. It is not a problem with my pc, but is an option that is not available for me which i would like to install to let me know if i accidentally unplugged the charger, particularly if I'm working on a full-screen feature. Any help would be appreciated.
I have Windows 7 home Premium 32-bit installed.

A:How to enable sound when plugging/unplugging charger for laptop.

In the System Sounds, there is an option for device connect or disconnect. This will probably do what you want. You will have to assign a sound for those functions.

The System Sounds panel can be accessed from Start/Control Panel/Hardware and Sounds. Click on "Change System Sounds".

Hi, my new Acer V Nitro laptop makes a short, beep tone (coming from the speakers) when I plug and unplug the charger. I have read online that it is due to the driver and/or BIOS and I have done everything to disable it (installing new driver, searching for options in sound menu of Windows, going into the BIOS settings...). Finally, I have found the solution: deactivating the autostart of Realtek Audio driver on Windows start. Do you think that it is normal to hear this tone? I have completely reinstalled Windows and the tone finally reappeared (only after installing all updates). Thanks,

So i was wondering if i can use the modem by using the charger USB port or not. That way i will not have to keep my PC powered on all the time. My charger has a output rating of 5V and 830mA. I reckon there shouldn't be a problem but want to be sure lest i damage the modem.

My Dell Inspiron 17R 5720 doesn't recognize charger any more. And unfortunately my warranty expired 2 month ago.It was plugged in and working in the morning, but then in the afternoon I noticed that it was running on the battery only. It wont start without battery (just charger plugged in).
1. So here what I have done to debug. Me and my brother, we have purchased the same Dell laptops at the same time a year and a bit ago. This is why for a debugging purposes it was good.I took my charger and plugged in to his computer. And it works. Definitely not the charger issue I guess. And when I plug charger in to my computer, green light is still on the charger. And I have the original charger that came with the laptop.
2. Now, laptop works on the battery only, so this means that motherboard is working. I guess.
3. Next thing I did was unplugged charger and removed the battery from the laptop. Then I pushed and hold "Power" button for 45 seconds to discharge a flea charge. Plugged charger back in but laptop wont start.
4. Next I started laptop on the battery, went to BIOS and checked if the charger is recognized in the BIOS. No, it doesn't recognize charger. So, if it is not a charger then what else can it be?
5. Laptop doesn't have any strange smells so I'm not sure if anything happened with the motherboard, but I would assume mother board is ok because it works of the battery.

A:Dell Inspiron 17R 5720 doesn't work with charger. Charger is not recognized. Not charger problem.

Hi CJ777,
Thanks for reaching out with your query. You pretty much figured out all points of failure. Good job.
If the adapter is not detected in BIOS, it most likely is an issue with the mother board. In the BIOS set up, AC adapter should show up as 65w or 90w. If the adapter status is 'None' or 'Unknown Device Installed', it indicates that the mother board is not detecting the adapter for which the battery is not getting charged. Once the battery charge drains, I'm sure the adapter will not charge it again. Replacing the system board should resolve this issue.

A:e555 + ssd?

rule of thumb: even an average performing SSD will make your laptop or PC way faster ...because of the reading speed and especially the access speed to the many different small data files that get accessed during boot or application starts. It also helps a lot with multi tasking when more than one of your 4 cores does read/write operations.

Hi! I have 4 years old Lenovo Yoga Ideapad 13.  The problems started couple weeks ago, when the computer wouldn't run or start up without being plugged in. I followed some other people's advice and got a new battery. It seemed to fix to problem for while. Now few weeks after the same problem stands with the new battery. It won't start or run, but when plugged in it says the battery is 100% and charging.   I tried checking if the charger isn't working, but it charges all fine on my other Yoga, which has the same charger model. So please note that this isn't the common problem that is seen here on the forums, that the battery doesnt charge. I'm pretty frustrated, as this problem persists even though I changed the battery. Anyone have ideas? I figured it could have something to do with the battery wire connecting battery to the motherboard, but there doesn't seem to be any defects or loose wires.  However, I tried taking off the battery connection wire when plugged in, and then I get the message "No battery detected" instead of the regular "100% Fully charged". Any help is appreciated.

When I plug the charger in the message on the battery icon on the bottom toolbar reads as "73%, plugged in, not charging". Obviously the laptop is recognising the charger (i.e "plugged in") but it is not allowing the battery to charge.
I have installed every update on the computer and I have recently searched for any outstanding BIOS updates. The system seems to suggest there is a BIOS update to be installed yet when I try to install it the system says that it cannot detect a charger, and won't complete the update, or it won't complete the update without a charger plugged in in the first place. It's a no-win situation. The computer and charger are only 14 months old so this is very unsatisfactory. When I remove the battery the computer operates on AC power only, so again the charger is working, it simply won't charge the battery and therefore once the battery runs down to 0, which it will eventually, I will be limited to using AC power only.
If I restart the laptop with the charger plugged in it diverts me to a warning page saying that the charger is not recognised and I am given the option to go to the BIOS setup, go to diagnostics or to continue. If I choose "continue" it simply returns me to this warning page every time so the only way to power up the laptop is to do so with the AC charger out, and to then plug it in once the system has started so that the battery doesn't drain completely.
Please help.

A:Inspiron 15 5559 charger not charging battery (manufacturers charger being used)

An unrecognized AC adapter will not charge the battery.
First try a new OEM Dell adapter.  If that's also not recognized, replace the DC power jack:
www.parts-people.com/index.php
If neither the new adapter nor the DC jack solves the problem, you've got a bad charge circuit - replace the mainboard.

So I bought an E555 back in February. From the start, I had issues connecting to my wireless network.  At first, I thought it was my NetGear router, but after doing every troubleshooting step their customer support had to offer, I came to the conclusion that it was my laptop. Mostly because out of the 8 or 9 devices connected to the router, I'm the only one with this issue. My laptop connects to the router, and may work for a few minutes or so, but will then NOT work without warning. I'd say about 65% of the time, it would get the yellow mark over the wifi icon. Doing Windows Troubleshooting never solves the problem. I've updated my BIOS and Drivers frequently, but nothing seems to work. The only way I can have a stable internet connection is by connecting via ethernet... Which is very 2002. I don't know what else to do besides to send it in for repairs, thinking that the wireless card may be defective or something. Any ideas?

I have this problem too with four E555s and one e530, I hope someone can help with a resolution. It usually starts out as the original poster described except on larger networks we had lots of trust issues before the wifi stopped working all together. Three of them I sent back and besides replacing the wifi cards Lenovo also restored factory media which just created more work for me to get them back into circulation. The fourth one I had them just send me the wifi card but the problem persists after replacing it.No software fixes that I know of solved the issue. Please help.

Does anybody know the max memory speed possible for Thinkpad E555 in a dual module configuration and with most recent BIOS?AMD lists in some documents different speeds possible for single SO-DIMM and dual SO-DIMM as well as single rank or dual rank. It claims that there might be a fall back to 1333MHz even. But what is the reality for the Lenovo Thinkpads? I can't find any official documents on that. There are brands (like Kingston HyperX Impact) that have DDR3 SO-DIMM available for 1600MHz, 1866MHz and 2133MHz, while the latter one is not specifficaly offered as being compatible with the E555. Anybody with higher RAM speeds than 1600MHz DDR3 on the E555 or a similar Thinkpad?

I don't use the touchpad often at all, and never when there is a USB mouse.

I find that I am constantly pushing the cursor off when I am typing (I assume by gently touching the touchpad).

My previous laptop had a setting where I could disable teh touchpad entirely when there was a USB mouse hooked up. That was perfect. There isn't any for this ThinkPad.

I know there are sensitivity settings for the touchpad, but I'm not sure which ones work, and where to move them. What settings would be best for me to adjust, and in what direction?

Other than that, I've had this for a couple of weeks now and I really like it. I just wish I could deal better with the touchpad.

My new Thinkpad  with Win7 and AMD processor was delivered with a faulty operating system.  The problem is that Windows update does not work.  If you search for updates it will search forever and not return anything found.  It also states that last search was "never" and last update was "never". However, it appears that it was loaded with 64 bit Win7 service pack 1 and updated March 28, 2016 with a March 16, 2016 cumlative update.  My guess is that something in the update broke the update function. Does anybody know the fix for this problem.  I can not be the only person with this problem.  Is there a known Lenovo fix for the broken OS?  This is a critical error considering the pace of security updates coming in recently. ThanksCharles

Just got my Lenovo E555 back from the service depot after having it one evening and I turned it on and it automatically upgraded to windows 10. Not that I minded going to 10 from 8.1. Point being I never got the chance to see if the touchpad worked in win 8.1. Now in win 10 the touchpad works about 1 in every 4 or 5 times I tap it. It scrolls just fine. I've adjusted the sensitivity in control panel but to no avail. I saw it was suggested that the driver might be out of date for the win 10 64 bit OS, but when I tried to install the driver made available from Lenovo, I was informed that I was about to install a driver that was older than the one currently installed. I tried installing LSB but it wouldn't install. All it said was that there was "an error" while attempting to install LSB. Am I going have to send my laptop back for the second time in two weeks? Also, I've noticed that if I move the pointer too close to the scroll bar on the right of the screen, the cursor changes shape into what looks like a tiny scroll bar that scrolls the whole page when I move the cursor instead of just letting me move the cursor where I want it. Any ideas how to get this thing taken care of?

So, I bought my Thinkpad Edge E555 less then a year ago. The left 'Ctrl' became permanently loose after only a few days, and little to no use, but that issue was solved excellently by Lenovo, by sending me a new drop-in keyboard. Since November though, I have been having some graphical issues as well: it occurs in multiple games which otherwise run perfectly fine, and for which my system's specifications easily surpass both the minimum and recommended specifications. Some objects have black, partially black/broken or alltogether missing textures. It does not occur all the time, when it does happen, it happens to different objects every time in the same games (e.g. one time it may be quest markers, the other time it may be chests or weapons). Also, other games show blank or low resolution  textures on boot, at the start of each session, but these textures might pop up after half a minute or so. An Ati/AMD support employee suggested reverting to Catalyst 15.7.1 WHQL drivers (from current issue Crimson drivers), and initially that did seem to contain the problem somewhat. After a while though, problems seem to be getting progressively worse. After playing for a while, games might show 'black skies' or untextured ground upon loading a new map. I've experimented with both the new Crimson Beta drivers, as with 16.3.2 WHQL. Initially the Beta drivers gave some decent results, as long as I turned off stuff like "morphological filtering". However, newer beta drivers, as... Read more

Hoping someone can maybe point me in the right direction.  I had my e555 thinkpad hooked up to a tv with an hdmi cord, I unplugged it and the screen when black. Restarted it and the Lenovo logo popped up for a few seconds only to go to a black screen that hangs around for a few minutes and then the computer shuts off.  I cant really do much besides get to the Startup Interrupt Menu and even then if I choose the recover your system option I am taken to another black screen. I can get into BIOS setup and I can diagnose the hardware. I've run through an entire diagnosis and everything passed.  Any idea? I think it must have something to do with the hdmi port but I've even tried plugging it back in and it won't recognize my laptop.

A:E555 Stuck on black screen during startup

I've solved my own problem. Basically, my computer got stuck thinking my laptop screen was the secondary screen, through the startup menu I was able to make a secondary screen the primary screen, and then switch it back to my laptop screen. I think there was just a bit of a hang up.  Thank you anyway.

Recently I bought a charger for my HP G61-110SA which was just a replacement adapter. Now yesterday it did something weird. Basically, there are two pictures of the two indicators there are to show whether it is charging, one is on the front and one is next to the port on the side. Basicaally the charger wasnt changing the indicator on the side or the one on screen but the one on the front was working when I turned it on. By default the laptop chages brightness when plgged in but now it sort of brightens a bit (not to the full level as should do) and then goes back to normal. Today the laptop is still doing the same but the front light now only turns on for a few seconds before turning off! I dont know whether it is charging. Is this the laptop or the charger. Any help would be useful, I have attatached the side indicator and the front one

UPDATE: I found a website which said you could turn it off and start without battery but with charger and then turn off and use both. However, I turned it off and removed the battery and it wouldnt charge. Then I put the battery in and it started charging-weird. Also the light on the front doesnt last very long so I am stuck. ANY HELP?

A:Charger icon not changing but charger is working

it could be that your battery is not working properly. how old is the laptop ?
I have read in places on the interwebs about people resetting their batteries by putting them in the freezer overnight.

I don't use my computer for maybe a whole year.
Now, I wanted to use it but it's not working. My battery is addicted, basically, if I don't have a charger I won't be able to turn on the computer.
So when I plugged the charger on the wall, the light on the box charger was solid (it didn't blink); However when I plugged it in the computer the light blinked.
I don't know what's the problem and I would like to fix it, if possible.

Hi,My laptop won't hold a charge. I have replaced the battery and charger. The only time it works is when the charger is inserted into the laptop but even though it's plugged in it won't charge and will shut down immediately after the charger is removed. Please help.
