Problems with Outlook

Q: Problems with Outlook

Hi lately Outlook is very haphazard - times out whilst receiving messages etc. Also a program called Freedom Hidden Window keeps popping up as a non-responding program - no idea what it is my Adaware and spybot 0r Ntl netguard don't pick anything up could yhe 2 be connected.
Have included hijack this log to see if this turns anything up

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

Hi all at Techguy, I hope someone can help me!!!

My outlook express has changed to Microsoft outlook! This has also caused me problems with Word and Excel.
I cannot open any e mails in outlook express as it says there is an error. I can go back to a restore point fro a few days ago and all is fine, a day later it changes again to Microsoft outlook and the same problems occur.

When I try and open a word or excel document it says preparing to install!!

I can not open attachments in my outlook also!!

I have AVG as my Anti virus protectiion
I run SpyBot on a daily basis
I run Ad-Aware on a weekly basis

Hello. I'm having an issue with Outlook 2007, as part of Office 2007 Ultimate. In the past week or so, I've started to have a strange issue when launching Outlook 2007. I have resolved the issue with a work-around, but thought that I'd post here for suggestions.

OS: Windows Vista Premium 64-bit
App: Outlook 2007 as part of Office 2007 Ultimate

Outlook 2007 configured to start in Outlook Today. When launching Outlook, receive warning that Outlook did not start properly the last time it was launched and asks if desired to start in Safe Mode. Choice not found to make any difference in Outlook launch.

Sometimes, Outlook launches properly from this point.
Sometimes, Outlook launches and hangs wtih "Databinding" showing in lower-left corner of Outlook; Outlook will eventually "un-hang" and seems to work properly.
Sometimes, Outlook launches and hangs with "Loading Dataset" showing in lower-left corner of Outlook; Outlook will eventually "un-hang" and seems to work properly.
Have not been able to determine any course of events that determines which of the three occurs.

As a work-around, disabled "Start in Outlook Today" and issue no longer occurs; Outlook launches without problem or hang.

I've searched all through Technet and MSDN resources, but have not been able to locate any article referencing this issue.

Good day;
I have followed all directions in the "read this first" post. I pretty much do that every week or so anyhow.
Anyway, the problem. Recently on MS Outlook, when I check my mail, I find I have 10-20 messages in there from either, Postmaster Hotmail, Mail delivery Service, Mail Delivery System or Mail Administrator with a Subject line saying either "Mail System Error-Returned mail or Delivery Status Notification or Undelivered Mail-Return to Sender and a few others. The text of the message is along these lines:
This Message was undeliverable due to the following reason:

The user(s) account is temporarily over quota.

<[email protected]>
<[email protected]>

Please reply to <[email protected]>
if you feel this message to be in error
I have no idea who these people are.
I am religous in running my updated AdawareSE, Spybot S&D, SpywareBlaster and also have EZ Anti-virus which is updated and has recently picked up a lot of incoming viruses via emails. I dont open any emails from Addees I do not know. I have run online AV scans and have not found anything. I also have Kerio Personal Firewall.
I am totally up to date with all WinXPSP2 updates as well as MS Office 2003 updates
Any idea why I am getting all this garbage.

I recently did an upgrade from Win ME to WinXP Pro on my Mom's computer
Dell Dimension 8100
Not sure of specs exactly but- (sorry)
2.6Mhz P4
512MB Ram

*pretty much stock Dell components for this system*

I installed Outlook
Outlook Express

Outlook Express is their preferred "Default" Mail handler and I have set
it up to be so.

The problems are these:

When connecting (Dial up ISP) Outlook automatically receives Mail without being opened (can hear the mail received notification).

Outlook Express was set up with two Identities, but all mail is going to just one identity.
In other words ALL mail is going into one Identity's mailbox, thus mixing up the mail and not separating it.

I checked Identities again, and it appears to be set correctly, so I don't know why all mail is defaulting to the one Identity's mailbox.

I am not familiar with Outlook or Outlook Express as I don't use those programs much, but know enough to set them up.

Can't figure this one out, please help if you have any ideas, thanks.

I just recently bought a new computer. It came with a trial version of Office 2003 which includes Outlook. My old computer used Outlook Express. I have been trying to import my dbx files from OE into the new O but it just won't cooperate with me. I have tried both methods recommended to me and both have failed. It appears I need to have OE installed on my new computer for either way to work. I haven't been able to download it because it won't let me download on older version of IE6. The XP service pack doesn't have it. I am unsure what do to at this point.

To make matters worse, the OE on my old computer won't let me export using the program export function. I downloaded OE again hoping it would correct the problem. It didn't work.

I have been using Outlook Express 6 which seems to be working fine. However, I wanted to switch to Outlook. When I try to install Outlook, I get a message that "Outlook Express 5 or higher needs to be installed." It is installed and working.
When I boot up the computer, I get a message that "Outlook Express has been removed and asks if I want to remove related files." I don't want to lose all of my stuff in Outlook Express, so I say "No" and the system continues with boot-up.
I am running Windows XP Pro with 2.53 GHz system and 1.00 GHz RAM. I have scanned for Adware, and Spyware and run a good antivirus program (Avast) which is kept up to date. I am also using Office XP.
Can someone please assist with this or will I have to do a complete "format" and start over.

I have the same problem in both applications (outlook XP/2003 beta).
I have two E-mail accounts.

1. is an exchange account (current set as default)
2. a private email account
when I send internal mails (in the office) outlook use the exchange server...as I set (that is OK!).
but when I will send an external email (for example to [email protected] )
Outlook use also the exchange server to send the email and I get an error message.
The only possibility to send external mails is for me to set the email account by hand for every
outgoing mail.

The proble doesn't exist with outlook 2000.
Outlook 2000 automatically use the second email account when it see that the mail must
be send to an extrenal account.

How can I set Outlook XP / Outlook 2003 beta to do the same as Outlook 2000?

Got Outlook XP running on Windows XP. Office (and thus outlook) is patched with service pack 1.
I've set up my mail accounts correctly. The test button works like a charm (getting good results).
But when i try to actual send mail, it stays in the outbox and i get an error. "The operation timed out waiting for the SMTP server"
Using outlook express or any other mail client, everything works fine (so no problem with the mailserver).
I know there's a ticket on Technet about this, but the solution provided there is patching to SP1, which i have already done

Hi.........I'm hoping that someone can assist me, as I have got great help from here before.

I have an older PC that I can't replace/update (well probably could) because of my web site that uses an older version of windows. Anyway, I have Outlook Express 6 and it has suddenly started freezing up when I try to delete certain emails (mainly Facebook emails). When I click on the error report, here is what I get:

Also, if I fgure out a way to get my web site to work (Cute Site Builder) with a newer version of windows, how can I transfer EVERYTHING (emails, etc.) to a new PC? Buy a drive and put it on that?

One user on our network appears to be having problems sending external email via outlook on the back of exchange 2003. There is no error message, the email just wont turn up. Other users are not having the same problem.

To begin with it appeared to be something with the local users profile, as logging on the machine next to him with that account could send emails ok, therefore his local profile was deleted and all worked for a brief moment.

However it soon turned out that it wasnt working and the account in Active Directory was deleted and recreated. This again appeared to work for a brief moment and has stopped. The user has also had a new machine in place of his old one and it still doesnt work. However I can log in as that user and send emails fine.

Any ideas?

My elderly neighbour, who normally uses a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7, has recently inherited a pre-owned Apple Mac laptop from her daughter, which she now intends to use upstairs, so as to save her from having to carry one machine up and down with her.

She, having no one else to ask, and knowing that I am perhaps a little more technically minded (I wish! ), has asked me to take a look at the Apple machine in order to hopefully sort out a problem she is experiencing pertaining to Outlook.com.

When using the Toshiba laptop, when she opens Outlook.com using Firefox, down the left-hand side of the email window appears a pane which includes details of her email contacts. When she composes a new email, or wants to forward an existing email to multiple recipients, she is used to just clicking on carbon copy (cc) where she can select from a complete list of all her email contacts arranged in alphabetical order. However, on the Apple laptop, and when using Safari to view what I presume to be the same Outlook.com email screen, she says that no such list of her email contacts appears.

Myself, only being familiar with XP and Win 7, and never having used a Mac in my entire life, am not certain what to try in order to correct this issue.

In the absence of any replies, and after a little more research of my own, I am beginning to get the idea (rightly or wrongly) that although Outlook.com (formerly Hotmail) is accessible to users of both Windows and Mac, some features, such as the contacts pane, only become accessible after installing Microsoft Outlook Connector on the Windows device being used to view the account, and that as no version of this software is available for the Mac, some features such as the contacts cc pane are unavailable. Can anyone confirm my understanding as correct?

Not sure if I have a virus or hardware issues. Microsoft Outlook regularly generates errors and shuts down or locks up. Windows Installer pop-ups now appearing that are apparently wanting to install or re-install Outlook or some portion of Outlook. Business contact manager often crashes and requires computer re-booting to bring back. McAfee Security Center toolbar for Outlook no longer shows up with options to note spam or good messages. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP4 won't install and keeps trying/bombing.

I have Verizon FiOS and an verizon email. almost everytime I try to open outlook, it fails and I get a vista message saying sorry, send us some info and we will try to fix. Well, I have never heard from microsoft about how I might fix the problem.

What happens is that either the outlook doesn't open at all or if it does open, after it initially receives my messages, it freezes up and won't let me send or receive mail. Also, after closing outlook, usually I have to do it through task master, it will not let me open outlook again unless I restart my computer.

I am very frustrated.....

I have a Dell XPS desktop running windows 7.  My hard drive is failing so I am trying to move all my files to a new drive.  I have been using Outlook 2010 for my email.  My outlook pst file will not move.  I was able to get it to copy with errors in Linux but the file size is not quite as big as the original.  I can't seem to open the copy either.  Outlook says it is not a pst file when I try to open it in Outlook.  Anyone have any experience recovering a pst that has serious issues?  Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

It's possible the PST file has become corrupt.   In that case you can try running the Inbox Repair Tool (called scanpst.exe ) to see if you can fix any corruption.   This guide will provide details   .

Ok. I'm going on holiday in a couple of hours, and i want to send some important emails a.s.a.p, but outlook is giving me problems.

It is coming up with the error, when trying to send emails:

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. Server Response: '553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)'. (Account 'account name', SMTP Server: 'smtp.pc2web.co.uk', Error Number: 0x800ccc79).

Does anyone have any suggestions? I thought SMTP might need to be activated - but it doesn't change anyway.

I am having a problem with my Outlook 2003. I sent myself a test email and it comes back immediately like it is supposed to, however, it says 12:30 am, 6/1/08 when I sent it at 11:30 pm, 5/30/08.
Does anybody know what causes this problem or how to fix it?

Check your PC time/date properties. Then check the next tab - time-zone. Either may be wrongly set, is someone playing games with you? Also check the internet time tab, where you may (unknowingly), be synchronising to an internet time server.

Alternatively, it may depend upon your ISP, whose server may be completely wrong. Yet another factor is that NTFS file times are held in international time and date format, and then translated for viewing by your local time zone and daylight saving time settings. This can cause havoc with data you must synchronise between NTFS and FAT32 based data storage media, as the fall out of sync twice a year, leaving me sadly shaking my head at MS obduracy.

Have a Dell PC with 1.7GHz processor and 256Meg Ram. Plenty of storage.
Had been using Windows Me and Outlook and everything was fine. System crashed and had to reinstall everything. Decided to upgrade to XP w/SP1.
Installed XP and reinstalled Office 2000. Got Outlook up and running and does mail fine. I have set up two accounts on the system; one for me and another for my bride in the event she want to have her own stuff.
Have a couple of problems I cannot figure out.
(1) Cannot add entries to address book. Whenever I try, the system allows me to type in all of the info and save. When I go back to access an individuals info. only the name is there. When I get an email from a person and want to add them to the address book, using the add to address book feature, the system allow me to do that successfully.
(2) BTW, when I add people to address book as noted above, I keep getting reminders to contact them. It gets annoying. How do I turn off reminders?
(3) Cannot add meetings, appointments, events to calendar. I go through the entry of all the information and then the calendar shows nothing.
I am inclined to believe that the above is somehow to related to the interface between XP and Outlook. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks in advance.

I have Microsoft Outlook and when I try to print an email I get this message. "The required file x2utiIE2.DILL cannot be found in your path. Install microsoft outlook again" I click ok and then it asks to send the error report and restart oulook, but that does not help! This was working fine yesterday. Internet browser delays in loading with detecting proxy settings on bottom address line. Also some email addresses have not been able to receive my emails. Someone told me that I had been blocked at Port 25 as suspected spammer. I am not a spammer all I did was try to send email address change to my address book. Now for instance I cannot send email to any sbcglobal.net . My ISP says that they do not have any blocks in place.

I have Windows XP - I bought the laptop last year, and since after christmas I have had problems with my Outlook Express.

It may take 3 -6 times to send it!

I am with AOL and have been told that they don't like you using other servers for outgoing mail (as I don't use theirs)

Could this be the case and that they are treating some of my emails like spam? Sometimes if I change the name of the email they send quicker rather than using the reply option!

Could it be a problem with Outlook and something has happened like a bug etc??

Are you not using the smtp.aol.com as the Outgoing mail server setting?

Does your anti-virus program have e-mail scanning enabled or an antispam option?
If so, see if disabling those options makes a difference.

When i open outlook it loads fine, but then when i try and click on a message, it freezes completely. I tried to repair the installation and it asked for a Office disk, but i have not got the same office disk as used to install it so it doesnt work. Is there anything i can do without completely removing it and then starting again with installing office with another disk?

Two weeks ago Outlook began opening on its own with no prompt. I installed a new virus protection program to see if the problem might be a virus but other then a couple of adware issues there was no virus to be found.

Shortly after that my computer crashed due to an SATA drive failing (for the 2nd time in less then one yr) and needless to say I decided to reinstall XP...

The problem has been that since the fresh install Outlook still seems to act of its own accord and opens at will thereby forcing anything I am already doing, to be minimized. I have tried closing it multiple times only to have it open right back up and it is totally random as to when it occurs.

I am also running behind a router and no ports are turned on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My Microsoft Office 2002 is turning out to be a pain in the nevermind. I have set Yahoo, Gmail and Hotmail up to it. But it's being stubborn;

^ Yet I've followed Outlook guides and instructions to the finest detail, many times.

I am trying to set up outlook 2003 (XP) but I am having serious trouble.

I have set up a new profile in order to access via my works Microsoft Exchange Server and all my details are entered correctly including my work server etc.

My server and user name will not underline so when I start Outlook it will not connect.

Any advice would be welcome.

Could your work server possibly be located behind a firewall, and, if so, does you work admin provide an alternate port to bypass any firewall issues? And, if you are not sure, you may just want to try port 443, using RPC over HTTP (actually HTTPS) and see if it works.

A:problems in my outlook xp

Could be there are too many messages stored in Outlook in your usual Windows user account. When you created a new user account the Outlook folders would have been new and therefore empty, because Windows keeps separate identities and folders for each Windows user account in a different location.

Maybe exporting then deleting some of your messages to a backup folder will solve the problem?

Multiple Antivirus
I see you have two or more antivirus programs installed (McAfee, Norton, Windows OneCare Antivirus). Multiple antivirus programs can bog down your system, interfere with each other, and may even cause crashes. I highly recommend you remove all but one of them using the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

Unhide Files
Go to My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View tab and select "Show hidden files and folders". Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" option. Also make sure there is no checkmark beside "Hide file extensions for known file types". Click OK.

Download CleanUp!
Download and install CleanUp! but do not run it yet.

Main problems with system are errors opening Outlook Emails with html attachments, and IE6 runs extremely slowly. Adaware, spybot and cwshredder have been run. Mcafee AV installed and up to date. Could not do online scans recommended due to problems with IE, and the sites don't support Mozilla.

When I try to explore Temp Internet Files, explorer gives error and exits. When I try to delete files, IE hangs.

A:Problems with outlook and IE6

Please download Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/.

1. Install Ewido Security Suite.
2. When installing, under 'Additional Options' uncheck:
* Install background guard
* Install scan via context menu
3. Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double click it.
4. The program will now open to the main screen.
5. When you run Ewido for the first time, you will get a warning 'Database could not be found!'. Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
6. You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.
* On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
* Then click on Start Update.
7. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. The status bar at the bottom will display 'Update successful'.
8. Exit Ewido. DO NOT scan yet.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link doesn't work) and install it.

*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp!

once in a while, my computer get stucked. it's always happening when I'm using either Outlook or IE. when I say "stuck" I mean that these programs stop responding (whilst I can work with the rest of the programs on the computer), and when I try to restart windows or shut it down, I just can't. I need to manually power it off.
This happens almost EVERY day. it can happen 5 minutes after a restart or 5 hours. when these programs get stuck I also can't open WMP or winamp. like I said, the rest is fine.

Then click on Start Update.

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido
When you have finished updating, EXIT Ewido.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Use the up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode and press Enter.

Run Ewido with it's updated definitions:(...it's important that all windows must be closed) Click Scanner
Click Complete System Scan to begin scanning.
Click OK when prompted to clean files
With the first file it prompts to clean, select the option: "Perform action on all infections"
Choose clean and click OK.
Once finished, click the Save report button & save the report to your desktop. Post that in your next reply along with any other logs requested.

The first problem is this:

One of the users in my office has problems recieving mail but it is
intermittant and only from 2 or 3 senders. For instance 1 user sent him mail
yesterday (7/12/06 8:56pm) and he didn't recieve it. This morning (7/13/06
9:30am) we asked the same user to send him the exact same piece of mail and
he recieved it.

Things done to solve the problem:
1. Reinstalled outlook 2003 on his machine.
2. Reinstalled Office on his mahine
3. Turned off his flters.
4. Recreated his filters manually
5. Checked his views

After reinstalling outlook it seems to have been narrowed down to one user
but it is a problem I can't put my finger on. I also checked the mail server
and the mail is sorted into his account then his local machine will check and
download it but it doesn't show up in his mail box. Any help would be

Another user will send email to certian users (narrowed down to 2 specific
users) and somtimes when they reply to his email he can't see their reply but

Although I have anti-virus software, I think my computer has picked up a virus somewhere. I use Outlook for sending work related e-mail. Although my e-mail appears to be going to whom it is addressed, some of the addressees have stated that they are not receiving my e-mail. I send a lot of e-mail to one particular company, and nobody at that company can receive anything that I send them out of my Outlook, but if I use my personal e-mail account, they receive it just fine.

Also, something is wrong with my CD Rom drive. I put in a CD and the computer recognizes that it's there, if it's a music CD, it'll play just fine, but if it's a software CD, I can not download the software to my computer.

Please help.

When you say "download the software to my computer" do you mean installing the software, or are you trying to copy the data to the computer? If you mean installing, do you get any errors, or does it just not do anything? If the autoplay is disabled it may not prompt you to do anything. Try inserting a disc, then access the disc manually. Go into My computer then double-click your CD\DVD drive.

I've been receiving emails from a friend which weren't meant for me. Individual emails are being sent to many of his other contacts too. He was using hotmail but now it's outlook and he uses a mac. He can't send emails from his home computer to his work email account in case the email goes to everyone else at work! He wasn't sure if he's opened a dodgy attachment but has noticed that this problem has started when he was getting junk emails with a space in the one word subject line. I haven't received any spam via him yet but am worried this might happen and have banned him from emailing me! I've been doing a lot of googling to see if others are getting same problem but nothing so far. Has anyone here heard of this problem?

My Outlook stopped functioning. I have two email addresses. One formal and one informal. The formal address was not sending or receiving and blocked the informal address from doing the same. I deleted the formal account and the informal one worked. I called my internet provider and they changed the email from a Pop3 to an IMAP account. Now where I used o have an inbox, sent folder, out folder Junk email folder, now I still have them BUT I have a separate one for each email address. My formal address has an inbox, sent folder, Junk folder and draft folder. So does the informal address. Now when I delete an email from my inbox, instead of it being removed from the inbox and placed in the deleted folder, a line is drawn through it but it remains in the inbox. My inbox states there are over 300 emails in the box but they all have lines through them. I keep getting an Outlook Express message when I try to send mail through it, for instance, to respond to a Craigslist entry. Example: "Hotlmail", Server smtp.live.com Protocol: SMTP Port 25 Successful SSL yes, Socket error 10060, error number 0x800CCC0E. My mail is not sent in these cases. Maybe I can try to send the response withut Outloook. I have obviously entered the wrong iinfo into Outlook E. My regualar E-mail works fine, it's just when I go through Outlook, (which I only do because my Acronis backup requires it, to alert me through E-mail, if needed.)

A friend's pc is sending out e-mails twice to me and one other person. He is running Vista with Outlook 2003.

No one else he e-mails is getting duplicates

I had him remove both of us from the cached e-mail addresses to no avail.

I started to have problem sending mails from application Maximizer, that uses Outlook for sending mails. It all works ok, til a few days when I upgraded Windowows on SP2 (and also IE and OE 6.O)
I think it does not recognise the form of mail addres if it is written like this: name surname <[email protected]> (that is the form, that the other application enters the emai addreses while using outlook).
We use Mcafee av 4.5.1 on all machines. When send and receive it returns error: The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected email address was Michelle Petitt <[email protected]>. Subject 'Test', Account: Server: smtp.siol.net, Protocol: SMTP, Server response: 550 Cannot route to <[email protected]>', Port 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number 0x800CCC79

BUT EVERYTHING WORKED. I then run inetcomm.dll. It worked two days and now doesnt work again. It is not reasonable. I do not understand everything is checked many many times. What should i do?

smtp server is not problematic problem is that neither OE 6.0 nor Outolook 2000 coul not recognise xxxx yyyy <[email protected]> form of email when sent trough Maximizer application. If i type such email address directly inot outlokk, it works. An also trough Maximizer worked til a few days ago. An this is really strange because for one day it also worked when I typed regsvr32 inetcomm.dll.

Can't open some pages that require script, have reinstalled some items and I can't connect to windows update, all was fine yesterday before I updated NIS/NAV 2004.... does this log give a clue ?

Also cannot get Symantec security check to work, it says it doesn't work with my os ?

A:Having Outlook and Ie6 problems

It also seems that the latest norton update caused some problems, my Symnetdrv.dll has disappeared can I get this from somewhere or do I have to reinstall ?

I'm having problems with Outlook locking up whenever I get a new message. This started after running Spybot S&D yesterday. Today I ran Adaware SE and a full virus scan. Here's the analyzed HJT Log:

I keep getting this same error message. I have chated with AT&T. And they have walked me through so much stuff. And nothing has worked. I'm getting this error: Task 'postoffice.worldnet.att.net (1) - Sending' reported error (0x800C8105) : "Unknowns Error 0x800C8105'" Now they are telling me my MS Outlook maybe corrupt. Got any ideals what I can do.

This error can be caused by Norton AntiVirus software, do you have that installed?
What Windows version?
What Office version?
