Flex 2-14 - Warranty: Replacement policy

Q: Flex 2-14 - Warranty: Replacement policy

Hello,
I want to know the warrant policy regarding the following issues:
I have a Lenovo Flex 2-14 laptop.
Will my warranty be void, if:
1. I upgrade my RAM to 12GB by making use of the two provided slots. 4 Gb Ram the implicit one and adding another 8 Gb Ram.
2. If I dual boot my laptop with Ubuntu Os.
Kindly let me know the warranty status in both the cases.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Flex 2-14 - Warranty: Replacement policy

Hi wavare_ajinkya ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As a general rule, CRU (customer replaceable parts ) will not void the warranty as listed from the hardware manual . However most upgrades on this model shows that such are considered FRU (field replaceable unit) , meaning you would have to open up additional parts and might require skill and specific tools thus CRU ID is N. (item6 page 72 ).

1. Upgrading your RAM however would not void any warranty.
We had same issue discussed on this thread .
On quotes: " Similar to this query is this case for the Z500 replacement of optical drive which is also a CRU Id - N and this thread.

Warranty agreement :

What this Warranty Does not Cover
- failure or damage resulting from misuse, abuse, accident, modification, unsuitable physical or operating environment, natural disasters, power surges, improper maintenance, or use not in accordance with product information materials
-damage caused by a non-authorized service provider
-failure of, or damage caused by, any third party products, including those that Lenovo may provide or integrate into the Lenovo product at your request

Warranty is not covered if during the process of modification , damage or accidents may incur both on the replaced parts and the original devices ."

The answer would be no , upgrading the harddrive ,RAM will not void your warranty not unless that original parts gets damage because of or during the process of upgrade.

For best measure , you may give Lenovo Tech a call so that they would be able to note it on your account for the pc that you have plan for upgrades .

2. Changing the original operating system would not void the hardware warranty , but support for the software such as the new or original Operating System (example to restore it back/ drivers issue etc.) would be users responsibility and functionality thereof.

Hope this answered your query .

Regards

Hey guys, Short version: Battery is broken. Need a new one. Will not give away access to my notebook in any way. What to do? Long version: A few days ago, the 6-cell battery (model: 45N1023) of my ThinkPad X230 (model: 2325CN3) dropped to a capacity of about 50%. Today, it's at about 45% (which means if the battery is charged 100%, it will only last 45% of the time it did when it was new). The device is from November 2012, so I am still within the 1 year battery warranty and I would like to get a replacement. I called technical support this morning and (after spending 15 minutes in the queue) they told me that the only way to get a replacement battery is if I allow them to remotely access my system to troubleshoot the problem. The only other option would be to bring in the device to a warranty partner and give them all my passwords so that they can troubleshoot it. I think that this policy is very unprofessional, unnecessarily lengthy and not acceptable at all for the following reasons. I don't use Windows, but Linux as an operating system. I told that to the support technician on the phone. She told me that battery replacements can only be done if the "original image" is used (not sure what she ment by that, I guess with image she means the operating system -- a ridiculous statement anyways). I told her that I bought the Laptop without a pre-installed sytem, which confused her quite a lot.I am very sensitive about my data and I am... Read more

A:Warranty: Replacement policy

By the way, I am of course willing to provide support with all information (logs, screenshots, whatever) which they need, as long as someone tells me what they need to know. I am just not willing to give away control over the machine.

Hello All, My Flex 4-1580 just got back from the Lenovo Repair Center, where they fixed the backlight and the microphone. Thrilled, I opened it up and proceeded to play games on it for a few hours, then closed the laptop. When I come back and open it up, the top of the screen is cracked and the touch is permanantly clicking at the top of the page. Upon further investigation, I noticed that the screen case was not properly reinstalled, as there are gaps that did not exist before I sent the laptop to Lenovo. I want to know if this repair is covered by my original Lenovo Manufacturer's Warranty, as I have a third-party warranty that explicitly covers ADH repairs. I would assume that Lenovo would cover it, as the damage here was caused by their oversight, but I wanted to make sure. I'm going to call their customer service number when it opens tomorrow. Reply if you'd like an update with how it goes!

Hello, I recently purchased Lenovo Flex 5 (14") laptop (Part Number:  80XA0011US). This comes with 16.0GB DDR4 2133 MHz and 1TB 5400 RPM+128GB PCIe SSD.  I have 3 questions: 1) I am hoping I like the laptop. If for some reason, I want to return it, how many days I have? And, is that from the date of purchase or date of delivery?  2) I forgot to buy warranty with the purchase. How many days I have to buy warranty?  3) I bought accessory - Slim DVD Burner. Will this be attached to the laptop or is this an external one? Thanks!

I bought a Lenovo Flex 5 14" and at first really enjoyed the product, but it quickly had screen flickering issues. Thankfully, it was still in warranty, so I shipped it back and the LCD was replaced. However, the testing must not have been very rigorous at all because after a while, it still has the same flickering issue. The root cause analysis was incomplete, the problem was not completely fixed, and now my device is out of warranty. I tried to contact Lenovo months back, but because my device was out of warranty, I couldn't get through. Now I really need to use this laptop again and it is basically useless without an external monitor. I am very disatisfied with the level of service received.

When it is moved and especially when the screen is moved up or down the flickering appears. Hello, I had a failing hard drive that was replaced in warranty just a couple of days ago. However the hard drive that was installed on my computer is not a new one - CrystalDiskInfo reports it has been turned on 450 times. Is that a normal policy to send refurbished hardware as replacements?  Also, I've noticed the hard drive does an unfamiliar clicking sound when beign used. (and since it's the same hard drive as I've had before, I assume the usual working sound should be the time, which it isn't)Check disk and CrystalDiskInfo don't show any errors though, so I'm not sure if it's a bad sign or not? I will definitely take it to the authorized repair shop that did the HDD replacement but I still thought I'd ask here. Thanks in advance.

I've had to send my Flex 2-15 out for repairs, and it either came back missing screws or they've fallen out in the meantime. I really don't want to have to deal with Lenovo support again. I've looked up the parts and it shows that it's a repair technician fix only. Ideally I would lovee for Lenovo to just send me some extra screws, but again, the support received thus far has left a lot to be desired. Searching the forums, someone mentioned they've used (on their Yoga 2), M2 5mm screws, or even the 6mm. Can anyone confirm this screw type could work for the Flex 2-15?

A:Lenovo Flex 2-15 Screw Replacement

hi frustrated09,

Welcome to the Forums.

Depending on the part / area where the missing screws are, yes, the M2.5 (4mm, 4.5mm) and M2 (6mm) will work on the Flex 2-15 as they're listed on the hardware maintenance manual.

My screen has been plagued by yellowing in the corners but the digitizer is perfectly fine. I was wondering if anyone has any answers on whether or not you can just replace the lcd on laptop without replacing the whole screen/digitizer. the whole screen is 150 dollars and a lcd is just around 50-100. Also if you can point me to any part # or repair manuals that would be great. Thanks

Hi, I have a Flex 14-2 with a FHD (1920x1080) touch screen.  The screen has cracked - the glass is cracked and the screen is dead (black). I can get signal through the HDMI output on an external screen which makes me think the issue is with the screen and not with the GPU, so I'm looking to replace my screen. My question is whether I can replace the LCD screen but get a regular glass on top instead of a digitizer, as I don't really use touch functionality.  If so, where can I get a simple glass to go on top of the LCD? Thank you!

Hi,
my battery recently reported permanent failure, it was under warranty so I contacted Dell support to request a replacement. I've provided all the necessary information and had also ran some diagnostics, the person I was in contact with was happy with all the information provided and informed me that they'll send me a replacement.
Few days later he messaged me the below. I'm not quite sure why they need my whole laptop for this, I'm not really happy to have it collected and kept by them for what I can imagine will be several days if not  weeks. Is this a normal course of action for faulty battery?
"I forgot to tell you that the warranty on the system is Collect and Return, which means we have to collect that system and have that fully diagnosed and checked through our repair team. "
 Thanks.

A:Replacement of battery under warranty

It depends on the system you have.  If the battery isn't user-removeable (i.e., it's inside the system rather than easily removed by sliding a latch externally),it's not a user repair and you will need to return the system to the depot for service.

I brought a brand new  HP envy unit  for my son's school last July 30 2016 from authorized retailer here in the Philippines and after only 2 months ( 1st week of October) of minimal usage ranging from typing, surfing and playing casual steam games it suddenly stopped working unable to turn on. I brought the unit to  the authorized retailer where i bought it who in turn asked me to bring it to a HP authorized repair center where diagnosis of defective motherboard was made. We decided then to bring the unit to HP repair center directly  on October 14 and up to now it isn't fixed yet. In fairness HP repair center is constantly updating me with emails telling me that the defective parts is being imported from other countries and so on and so forth. I am totally peeve as the unit costs 60,000 pesos (1,200 US$) and yet the motherboard become defective at so short a time. It has been three weeks,  almost a month now and yet it isnt fixed yet. My son depends a lot on this laptop for his studies and he agonizes a lot as he hasnt any laptop to do his school works. I think i got a lemon product and i would like HP Philippines to give me a brand new replacement as this cause enough pain already. Please help me to forward this sentiment to the proper authority who would help me with this issue.

I had bought a HP 15ay008tx laptop in October, 2016 and the battery had a manufacturing date of June, 2016. The problem is that HP Battery Check is not showing any sort of problem in the battery, but in reality, the battery is continuously degrading. The battery loses 20% charge overnight even when it is switched off and the battery backup has degraded to almost half of the starting and that to is degrading fast. I would like to know if my battery is still covered under warranty and how to i go about getting it replaced by HP.

I have an active case on an Inspiron where the AC adapter has an intermittent connection between the AC cable and the AC/DC adapter body.    It has been flaky for some time but has recently prompted me to put in a warranty replacement request before I get to the 1 year anniversary.    The support personnel seem insistent on making this a wear and tear issue when clearly it isn't (the adapter just lies there all the time, no stress is imposed).   They have twice pointed out that they would gladly replace it if I had Complete Care on the laptop (damage, accident coverage).  I have replied that this is completely unacceptable and they need to re-evaluate this response, but I want to know how I can file a complaint if they maintain course.   Thanks in advance for any council I could get on this matter.

My Laptop is no longer warranted by HP but the manufacturer has a 5yr. warranty on its internal hard drives and my hard drive isn't 5yrs old yet. The HHD I'm referring to came installed within my laptop at the time I purchased it. Anything else you need to know? Thank you.

Hi, I am relatively new to the thinkpads, but really enjoying my new X270.  The only problem that I have is that mine came with a 1366x768 display. I thought this would be fine as I am using the laptop only for text editing and statistical analyses, but it on using it for a while I realize that I would like to update this to a full HD display. Now the issue is that I have three year on-site warranty that I do not want to lose. My question therefore is: - how can I update the screen without using warranty? I know it is FRU, so that it must be installed or replaced only by trained service technicians, but I am not entirely clear on what trained service technicians means. Does this imply that I have to have it replaced by one of the lenovo registered companies that also perform warranty or can I have it replaced by a local computer shop? The latter would be way easier for me as I live in Amsterdam where there is no Lenovo service provider, but many shops around. - Is there a list somewhere of the screens that would be compatible with my device? I've tried finding such a list online, but have been unable to do so. (model = 20K5S0VM00). All help is really appreciated!
