Problem with drivers for Radeon9600Pro or problem with the hardware?

Q: Problem with drivers for Radeon9600Pro or problem with the hardware?

I've got serious problem with my Radeon 9600PRO:

I installed Win XP SP2 on my new PC, Windows detected a new VGA device, it tried to install default drivers but it couldnt find it, (although WinXP CD was in a drive, and internet connection was working)

I installed DirectX9 and then launched the latest Catalyst Setup downloaded from ati.com, and installed drivers. After that, my card was noticeable as HIS Radeon 9600 series properly for Device Manager.
However, it didn't work well - in CCC there is 3d a graphic test - with 3d preview - a car driving on the road - and on my display it wasn't looking good, image was blurred or sth, also the icq icons were blurred (flowers and smiles) - while after uninstalling ATI drivers, when card is seen as a default VGA device (default frequency of monitor, default resolution) icq icons are looking well...

With Catalyst Control Centre installed, after reboting my display goes blank, and the only solution is reboting in safe mode, unistalling ATI drivers, and installing them once again, then it works but until the next rebot in normal mode...

Anyone knows what' the problem is? Rahter software or hardware?
Mayby Radeon 9600Pro cann't work properly with Athlon 64?
Maybe I should change something in BIOS?

My hardware:
HIS Radeon 9600Pro
Epox 8KDA3+ NFORCE3
Athlon 64 3200+

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

For some reason Windows keeps telling me that ALL drivers i install aren't "Windows Logo verified" and asks me if i wanna procceed or not, while this might seem normal i know that its not, becouse drivers that i used to install with no problems now this happens. Also i have LOTS ( and i really mean LOTS ) of "Found new hardware what action do you want to take" dialogs during an hardware instalation when this also didn't used to happen before. For example i just installed my X-Fi Sound Card, before it would install with no prompts what so ever, now when i'm installing it i had about 15 prompts telling me that it found new hardware and i had to choose "Find drivers automaticly", and after i did that i would get the "Driver is not Windows Logo Verified" prompt. It all seems to work fine eitherway if i just choose "continue" with the prompts, however this is becoming quite annoying since it happens for every driver i install.

Does anyone have the slightest idea of whats going on?
Oh, this started happening after i made a clean install on a new partition i made on a RAID 0 setup, and i got Windows XP Pro.
Thanks in advanced.

Hi, I'm new here (meaning I just made an account but have been lurking around every time I had computer trouble. This time however, I couldn't find anything that resembles the trouble I'm currently experiencing) and I'm hoping if anyone can help me or tell me if I should just throw my laptop against the wall.

I've had my printer (details and TSG SysInfo below) for over a year now, and never had any trouble with it. A few days ago, I needed to print something but wasn't able to (I can't remember what the error said, it didn't happen again) so I uninstalled the printer and re-installed it by downloading the drivers from the HP website. Pop-up balloon said that it wasn't successfully installed and when I would try to install the driver by going to print management and click on Printers I would get: "An error has occurred on the script of this page. Line: 40. Char: 21. Error: Object doesn't support property or method 'SetPrinterName'. Code: 0. URL: res://C:\Windows\system32\pmcsnap.dll/81". So I clicked on Drivers instead and tried to install the driver there and it said: windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error.

Do understand that I have no idea what I'm doing whenever my computer doesn't behave as it is supposed to, and everything is done by trial and error; mostly error. For some reason I felt the need to do a chkdsk /f /r which was scheduled on the next restart, b... Read more

Good afternoon Tech Immortals,

I am working on a friend's computer.
The hardware setup is the following:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ 2.1GHz

2.5 GB RAM CRUCIAL (Memtest says the following about it: DDR2(64 bit)
373MHz DDR746 CAS: 5-5-15

Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT pci-e

MSI K9N6PGM2-V motherboard

The problems:

Problem1. When the computer is turned on it gives out 2 short beeps (memory error, I presume according to an Internet search). Then it loads GRUMP for Ubuntu 9 or Win XP pro
Problem2. Anything that is graphics intensive makes the computer crash or graphics get glitchy. For example videogames will either make windows crash or crash the game and exit to windows. On Ubuntu while running Compiz the OS freezes. It only crashes or glitches with graphic intensive software.

Solution tried:
For problem1. While loading GRUMP there is an option for memtest. Diagnostics came out fine, no errors.

More background information:
I've inspected the motherboard, the graphics card, ram, everything (looking at it physically for any burns or liquid spills etc)
Everything is roughly 4 months old, bought brand new when purchased.
In the past the user had the same setup except that his old graphics card (GeForce BFG TECH 8800 GT) died on him (will get further details about that in about an hour).
Replaced for graphics card mentioned above. Those problems are occurring.
The card gets warm, but not to an alarming point (I want to say around 60 degrees celcius).... Read more

Hi guys,

About two months ago I bought an Acer TimelineX laptop (the 11.6" version with the i7 core.) Last night it started havong some vicious problems. It will instantly shut down or freeze with the current displayed graphics being very distorted, seemingly at random intervals. I suspect a hardware problem because a few minutes before all this started I noticed the cover protecting the internal components was out of place, so I snapped it back into position.

I tried running some of the pre-boot Windows diagnostics, but they came up clean. The system crashed once during this process and gave me a blue screen of death that said "PFN_LIST_CORRUPT". I ran a diagnostic on the memory and it came up clean as well. I'm thinking I might have broken some critically important piece of hardware. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks!

-Kai

A:Problem with Acer TimelineX turning off/freezing, suspect a hardware problem

A few silly ideas that i've tried with my Acer ..
try taking the battery out !..
just run it off the lead..
I've been told its something to do with a hardware issue with the standby mode of the fan or the CPU or some standby/neutral position that some gizmo inside does (have you guessed that I'm no techie ;o)
Try it out, it could be a simple (if not permanent) fix.
Good luck

Hi, I'm in need of figuring out if my laptop was infected by a trojan, the operating system went kapoot and i need to reinstall it, or if its hardware failure. I used it last night and my AVG caught a "small trojan horse" called cryptbase.dll and after removing it i believe is where it began. My computer restarted and ended up starting up with the acer splash with me able to click f2 for setup. But f8 doesn't work and causes a long beeping noise if i leave it alone it goes to a black screen with a underscore blinking at the top left. i've done some research but, im unsure which route to take without taking some advice for my own laptop. My laptop is a Acer Aspire 5741-3541, Windows 7,intel core i5-450 processor, 4 GB DDR memory, 500 GB HDD. if you need more information please ask because im unsure with what is needed to fix the problem. The solutions i've heard is reinstalling windows 7, or it might be a HDD problem. Thank you.

Hi all, I was hoping someone could help me out. I've been having a reoccurring issue with my laptop. The basic issue is that it runs very, very slow - using about 80%-100% of the CPU when a program is open and 30%-50% of the CPU when no programs are open. If I try to restart the computer, it will hang on a black screen between the "Starting Windows" screen and the "Welcome" screen.

The first few times it occurred (July, October, and mid-November) a System Restore from Safe Mode solved the issue. The fourth and fifth times it happened (late November and early December) I had to try restoring to multiple different restore points before it would work again. The sixth time (mid-December) no amount of System Restores did anything. I ended up running the "sfc scannow" command and that seemed to solve it. The seventh time (late December) neither System Restore nor "sfc scannow" did anything. I ended up reformatting and doing a clean install of Windows. That solved the problem for about a week, then last night it started happening again.

I'm a little lost at this point. I've run tests on both the memory and hard drive and they came out fine. I looked through the event logs each time the issue occurred and didn't see anything that seemed likely to cause this. The fact that it keeps reoccurring, even after a clean install, makes me think it's some kind of hardware issue. But the fact that the computer works completely fine... Read more

The short version of my problem is that at some point after a reboot, certain web pages fail to load.  I'm not sure what the root cause is, at all.  I am running Windows 7 SP1 and was up to date with updates when this started.

When it started happening:
Thursday night, the power flickered at my apartment and made my computer reboot.  I figured it was a good a time as any to install Windows updates since I hadn't done that in a while.  After doing so was when I first noticed the problem.

The problem:
What happens is after I reboot, at first, everything works fine.  At some time after, some web sites just don't load.  The sites that don't load are consistent (if I reboot and wait, all the same ones fail).  A couple examples are bleepingcomputer.com itself and any of Valve's (the game developer) sites.  It doesn't seem that computer help/anti-malware sites are all not working, since MBAM and AVG's sites work.  Google itself always works and when Googling for info on this problem, I seem to find more sites that don't work than do, once it starts happening.

I don't know specifically at what point stuff stops loading.  I tried rebooting then going to read a book for an hour, and it was working when I tried immediately after.  If I reboot and open Firefox with a ton of tabs and start browsing around, it might stop within a few minutes.

What I tried:
At first I thought it was my Internet connection or ... Read more

Yesterday, I came home from work to see that my computer had done a reset on its own. When I turned it on, I found the Win 10 Anniversary update waiting for me. Since then, I have had several crashes with games, and even blue screens.

The BSOD's go by so fast, that I had to turn off the automatic restart just to read the error as STOP CODE: MEMORY MANAGEMENT. Apparently, this means that there is a problem pertaining with my RAM.

A few months ago, I came on here with a similar problem after my PSU blew and I had to get anothr one. I solved that by buying 2 new RAM cards to replace the ones inside. I ran a memory diagnostic which showed no problems, and right now I'm running a system file check scanner as well. If both of these come back fine and there are still problems, I may have to get new RAM sticks.

I have a 2 year warranty on them, so replacing them again would be no problem. However, before I do that, I was wondering if the problem might be my motherboard or CPU as they are the only components still used from the computer from when the Power Supply blew? These would be my 3rd set of damaged RAM cards in a year, and that just strikes me as weird, especially since they are designed to withstand overclocking conditions.

A:Unknown hardware problem (possible software problem)

As the computer shut dow/reset for some unknown reason, I'd suspect that unknown event to be related.

Could be power related (ie: power surge or dirty power), power supply (if you are using a non-Tier one model, or possibly the motherboard.

Bottom line, some event occurred which caused this issue and it likely isn't related to previous issues.

Hey, I'm new to the forums. I would just like to ask if there are any specific drivers that would work best with this card. I currently use the 5.5 Catalyst and in Counter-strike 1.6, i drop to about 50fps when i look across a far map, or see more than 4 ppl on my screen. I never had that with my Fx5200 128mb. I tried running it in D3D and it's even worse. Any settings that could possible make it smoother, but not have like random wierd texture colours around the map like when I try to put it on Optimal Performance?

Here are my Specs

Intel Pentium 4 Processor @ 2.6Ghz Hyper Threading
512 Mb Crucial pc-2700
Radeon 9600pro 256mb - AGP 8X Enabled - 256mb Aperature
Asus-P4P800
Windows Professional w/ SP2
Ingame CS - 800x600 @ 100hz
Onboard Soundmax Audio

I don't know what else there is, but if I missed something please ask for it, because i really do not understand why my FPS is more brutal than a Fx5200..

A:New Sapphire Radeon9600pro 256mb LOW FPS in OpenGL Programs

You're new graphics card is a lot better than a FX5200. The problem should be software. Did you uninstall the nvidia drivers before you installed the ATI ones? If you didn't you should uninstall both drivers, then install the ATI ones again.

I am using a Samsung V30 notebook with a CDRW/DVD (the drives are Generic DVD-ROM SCSI CdRom Device and SAMSUNG CDRW/DVD SN-324F both of which are working properly according to the device manager). I am running Win XP Professional with SP 2 and PowerDVD 6.

Until today I could play all the CDs and DVDs I had. Today I tried playing a DVD from my school library where the lecturers recorded some of the lectures for re-viewing (I am saying to this to indicate it's not a commercial product). The CD itself seems to work on all the school computers (PC) and I also tested it on my flatmate's iMac and it worked fine. However my computer does not detect it - it's as if the DVD drive is empty despite the DVD physically being in there. It just spins for a while and then stops without being detected. But as soon as I try playing a commercial DVD it works fine. So I don't even know if it's the DVD (although it works everywhere else) or my DVD-ROM (although everything else works on it).

I have a friend whose son uses ProTools to produce music on his PC. He purchased this PC from a company lat year that has since gone out of business. A few weeks ago he told me the PC all of a sudden would not boot up so I immediately thought it must be a hardware problem. A week ago he had another friend who supposedly knows a lot about computers look at it, he claims it?s a Windows problem, not a hardware problem. This guy brought the PC to his place and says he got it to work for a couple of hours, but when my friend brought it back home after just a few minutes it shut down again.
I finally made it over to his house to take a look myself, what actually happens is the PC boots to the Windows XP splash screen for a few seconds and then shuts down and restarts continuously. I tried booting into Safe Mode but the same thing happens, it just continuously restarts. There were a couple of viruses (Trojans) on the PC before this problem started happening but I was told they ran an antivirus program and that the viruses were removed.
So my questions, what can be causing this mysterious behavior? Unfortunately he never backed up his files so reformatting is truly a last resort. Is there something anyone can think of to get the PC to boot into Windows?

Hi all,

Issue: The sound on my internal laptop speakers does not work when I try to play audio.

Solution: However, if I go into "Device Manager" and click "Scan for Hardware Changes" on the "Sounds, video and game controllers" section, my sound returns instantly. The moment I click "Scan..." the sound appears straight away and plays back without issue.

The Problem: Problem is, while the sound plays back fine as long as I am playing sound, the problem of no sound returns once I stop audio payback. I've noticed I can stop playback and the sound will still play back for a minute or two, but if I don't play audio for longer than about 5 minutes the sound again disappears next time I try to play back and I have to do the "Scan..." thing again to get it working. It's as though my system keeps defaulting back to an incorrect setting or something after a few minutes.

External Speakers: There is no problem at all when I have my (bluetooth) external speakers selected. Sound plays through them fine.

What I've tried to fix:
- Troubleshoot both "Playback Audio" and "Hardware and Devices" through Control Panel, but neither fixes issue
- Update Driver Software for my "Conexant High Definition SmartAudio HD2", but it says I'm up to date
- Read the forums to find my specific problem, but couldn't...apologies if I've missed it.

There is no other setting I can find to alleviate this problem so wondering if it is a hardware problem ? Hope someone can offer some suggestions

the wife is having problems starting World of Warcraft on her computer. It tells her the following:
"World of Warcraft was unable to start up 3d acceleration. Please make sure directX 9.0c is installed and your video drivers are up-to-date."
So I told her to download dx9.0c and the latest Catalyst to see if that helped. and it hasn't. I'm starting to worry that when her powersupply blew last week that I either put the new on in wrong, or that it my have fried the 3D part of her video card.
Here's hopeing for an easy software side fix.

I use a 60GB HDD Video Jukebox mpm-202, what I use to backup. before formatting and re-installing this pc I put my files on this device, to put them back later, now, I also used this device with the Mac OS 10.2.8, and this should be no problem, because this device, and driver work on both mac and windows. but now, in every directory on my device in which I have put a file in, there appears a unknown file called: .DS_Store .And now, when I connect the device to my re-installed pc, the pc doesn't recognize this device, after I have installed the correct driver.
What do I do to fix this? is it an XP problem, or a hardware problem?

This message might be a lil long, sorry! I just finish upgrading from W2K to XP Everything is working fine, except for 2 things. I have been trying to figure out why but I cannot. I have 2 HDD, master and slave & 2 cd-drives, regular cd and a cd-rw. I made sure everything in the bios is right. Bios looks good, under device manager it shows them with no problem. But in Windows explorer I cannot see my slave HDD and in Nero burning software, it wont detect my cd-rw. Please help me!! I really appreciate it! I dont know what else to do, I have done everything I can, thanks in advance. -Robert

A:XP hardware problem

try uninstalling nero and reinstalling
if you are using nero 6 go into services and check the imapi cd burning is disabled
the h/d the only thing i can suggest is delete it from the device manager reboot and let windows reinstall it

Hello all, PC crisis mode.

I have a machine one of them "pick-all-the-parts-and-they-put-it-together" type places (American Computech). I installed XP Pro on it, and it's worked like a charm for about 8 months.

Recently my machine has stopped booting entirely. At first, it would get to the BIOS screen and then reboot itself. Once in every 5 tries or so you would make it to the Windows login screen and be able to log in. At this point, however, it stops just after the BIOS screen. There's a message at the top (with a blinking cursor after) that says "Error loading operating system". It's still a black screen with white text.

I'm not quite sure where to go with this. Do I just try to reinstall the OS from scratch? Or is this possibly a hardware issue?

Second question - the fan I got with my PC is REALLY loud. I presume a better fan would be quieter. But, not being terribly technical, how do I figure out which fan is the loud one? Hard disk fan? Case fan? I don't even know if I have multiple fans in there. The only one listed on the invoice is "ECS Socket A Cooling Fan". I'm not sure how to tell.

Thanks!

Steve

I have just purchased a new Motherboard, CPU, Case for my PC

1 Gigabyte GA-7DX Processor
1 Athlon 1.4Ghz Processor
1 N880 FULL-TOWER ATX-300W CASE

After building my PC I discovered that the PC wouldn't power up at all (the fan for the power supply wouldn't even spin).

So what I decided to do is to go down to my local PC World and have them test the power supply (as well as make sure that i wasn't doing something stupid). After returning to PC World I then was told that they had swapped my power supply over with another power supply, but still nothing. Due to the problem not being the power supply the guy in the shop said I think it is probably the motherboard, so I then sent the motherboard back to the place I purchased it from.

The motherboard was then tested and results were 'After Testing Your Motherboard We Have Found No Faults At All, It Works Perfectly'.
Please Could Someone Assist With This Quite Major Problem

Many Thanks

Matt

I have a Dell Dimension 8400 running Windows XP.
In the past 36 months I have had 6 DVD and CD drives replaced in this computer. The problem is always the same in that the tray gets to where it will not open. I open it with a paper clip and the tray is loose and free moving. A couple of times I have seen the small drive belt and it is broken. I have gone through 2 (20X Liteon) drives in the last 60 days with very limited usage. I am the only user of the computer and extremely careful so I know the tray is not being beat up and abused. Would appreciate any help someone may offer.

Hey everyone - this is sort of a continuation from my thread in the Win2k forums, since the problem is now pointing more towards the hardware side of things.

So, some backstory: A few days ago, let's call this magical day "Tuesday", while playing a game of no specific importance, my computer locked up. I thought, well, this is odd. So, naturally, I rebooted. And quickly, my PC locked up again. This repeated for some time, before I cursed and booted into Linux. No problems there, so I assumed that I was having software issues - hence, the post in the 2k Forum.

Now, it seems that my problems are growing rapidly on that blessed machine. In Linux, my internet connection rarely functions, and when it does, the modem will have to wait through being turned on, hearing a dial tone, and listening to the operator telling me to hang up and try again before dialing. This lead me to suspect that somehow, the Modem - a USR 56.6k Internal Fax modem, forgive me for not recalling the model number specifically at this moment - is faulty. So, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver in Windows. Now, Windows can't find my PCI slot that it's plugged in. And it can't find the driver on the mainboard (PCChips M848A) CD.

So that leads me to think that the MoBo might be the problem.

Another thought that originally came to mind was my power supply - an Enermax 300W ATX EG301P-V could be going a bit shaky. That would, I would think, explain the freezing problem... Read more

Hi! I recently assmebled a new CPU and its been giving me trouble. I have a Intel 2.4 GHZ core 2dual proccessor on a Intel 945GCNL SND/VGA NIC Motherboard with XP Pro loaded. It started out well but then a message was displayed "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer
The problem seems to be caused by the following file igxprd32
If this is the first time you have seen this stop error screen restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps.

The device driver got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually incicates problem with the device itself or with device driver programming the hardware incorrectly.

Please check with the hardware deivice vendor for any further driver updates".
I went to the Intel website and downloaded the driver updates and tha BIOS update installed it also. It seemd to be okay for some time and then the same thing happened again. What could be done? Please Help! Thank You.

So the other night my PC takes a dump and decides to reboot. Basically it began the whole windows failed to boot up properly error and has the endless loop of loading "normally or safe mode or last known good configuration". Ive tried them all and its an endless loop and never see the XP splash screen. So initially I thought my hdd was dead or dying so I purchased a new drive (I needed more gigs anyway). Now Windows XP will not even install. I put in my XP disc and Windows goes through the whole initial loading files stuff and then says "starting windows", then reboots, and starts the entire process over again. I never get to the actual setup in xp, i.e. selecting the drive, formatting, etc..

So then I thought it was ram related.. I have two sticks of ddr2and four slots on my abit fatality mobo. I did the entire musical chairs routine trying all slots with one or both of the sticks and nothing changes. Does DDR require pairs? I thought that it didn't, but if it does this could simply be a bad stick issue.

My BIOS sees everything correctly, total ram, hdd's, dvd drive, etc..

Any suggestions on this issue?

A:XP or Hardware Problem?

Sure looks like a hardware problem. You already eliminated two major components, the HDD and Memory (maybe). It would be good to get a hold of a bootable CD with hardware tests. Two free ones are Ultimate Boot CD 3.4 and #1 TuffTEST Lite. They have memory, CPU and HDD test routines on them.

If you have access to another Power Supply (PSU), try to swap it out. A fluctuating voltage can cause reboots too.

So yesterday I try and boot up the computer, but it makes a beeping noise (one) and the monitor fails to be recognized. I decide to move my ram (2 sticks) to the Dimm 2 and Dimm 3 spots instead of where they used to be, Dimm 1 and Dimm 2, I boot up, and the monitor is recognized again. However, I get windows wasn't shut down properly message, I go with normal startup, and it freezes during the windows loading bar. I restart, choose safe mode, restart once in safe mode, and I am able to get it working. Next I noticed that my sound wasn't working, check my device manager and see that the Creative game Port and main Audigy driver's aren't installed properly now. So I reinstall the audigy drivers, which worked, and then try the game port but it won't install. After trying many times I look around to the net to see what the problem could be, and decide to look in the BIOS. I see that onboard game port is disabled so I enable it, try to install the driver but it still won't work, so I went back into BIOS and disabled it again to be safe. Frusterated and getting late I went to bed. This morning I try and boot up again and it freezes during the loading screen again. After going to safe mode and restarting a few times over it finally works. Now my question is, is my sound card defective and could that be causing XP to freeze? And What did switching my ram slots have to do with all this?

Just before i went on holiday (this was 3 weeks ago) one of my 2 (SLI) 6800GT Graphics cards overheated and broke. I removed it switched to 1 graphics card and tried to get onto windows with no avail. I left til when i got back from holiday (Today) turned the computer on, it worked fine, minus the 1 graphics card, i then went to plug my headset (which i had in already and was using i just took it out to listen to music) plugged it back in and the computer crashed. Now i use Auidigy ZS Pro so i was plugging it in round the back. I rebooted the computer it loaded into windows fine except no sounds, and windows media player was saying there was a problem so i rebooted again and now, with the sound card in or out it freezes on the Start windows normally screen.

I am currently using my old HDD which is running fine without the card in, i havent tried it with it in yet as i might have to reboot the other HDD anyway because that is 200 gig and i would much prefer to use that one. If any of you have any ideas of how i can fix this without a reboot then please help.

Joe.

EDIT

When i try to boot from my normal HDD i click start windows normally and a white line goes accross the very bottom very quickly like a loading screen then does nothing.

I was approached by a former customer today who asked a question that I need some assistance with, so here goes!

When surfing the internet, with Win XP running IE7, they experience a problem with the computer not advancing to the next page of a website. They see the "Page Cannot Be Displayed". Now if they go back, the former page comes up and they can work with it, but again if they try to advace to the next page it will not display. They further stated that there is no particular website this occurs on, it can happen on on game sites or Ebay, etc. and there is no certain amount of time that passes before it starts. They have other computers in the house that this does not occur on, just this one system. But it should be mentioned that the computer that previously occupied this particular space in the house did exhibit the same problem.

They have changed ethernet cables (using DSL) to the computer and phone cables to the modem, but problem still happens on this system only.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Further information - I asked and was informed that the computer is in close proximity to both a cordless phone and a microwave oven. Is it possibly interference with the 2.4 GHz signal?

Thanks again!

I'm quite sure it is, but the question is what. I recently built a new computer, an ASUS motherboard,http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131354 an AMD Athlon II X2, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103687 2 gb G Skill ddr 2 800 ram, and a 250 gb Seagate hard drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148261. The problem starts when I try to install an OS. Everyone that I have tried to install has messed up somewhere. When I try to install Fedora 11, it freezes on the hard drive partitioning screen and will NEVER make it past that point. When I try to install Windows XP I get an error saying "Cannot boot from CD - memory overflow problem" or something similar. When I try to install Vista, the CD will not boot at all, it doesn't even act as if it's reading the disc. I managed to install Ubuntu once, but after about 30 minutes of use the screen went white, and up until the time prior to that the screen would flicker randomly every few minutes. I did not try to restart it because I don't really want to use Ubuntu right now. My goal is to install either XP or Vista. I am thinking that maybe there is a bad piece of hardware somewhere, but every single OS points me in a different direction. Perhaps the motherboard is bad? Or maybe nothing is wrong at all and I just set something up wrong. Anyone have any ideas? Any help would be truly appreciated.

Thanks

Yet again, I've come to a boot problem. This time, when I boot up my machine, it stops at the PCI listing, and at the bottom of the screen I get something that looks like this: AФ AФ

I tried resetting the BIOS, but it didn't work. For what it's worth, I had just downloaded and ran the FEAR demo, it froze, and I rebooted. That's when I got the "AФ AФ" thing. I checked my GPU, and I didn't smell anything burning, so I don't think it's my card. (It wasn't rendering anything at the time anyway)... I am completely stumped. (And more than a little pissed lol)

I'd start disconnecting one piece of hardware at a time and see if you can get past where your at now. It could be a card, a drive, or a piece of memory that has failed or maybe just needs re-seating.

I came back to find that my computer was somehow seriously injured. It will start and run bios checks just fine, then it takes me to the little screen that tells me that windows had failed to start properly and askes me if i would like to start in safe mode, The last known good configuration, or start windows normally. Upon selecting any of theise options, about 3 seconds after the computer begins initializing windows (the little windows XP screen goes up and the blue loading bar is active beneath the logo) the computer will reboot and the whole process starts over again. Please help me out here, im clueless!

I've been looking thru the posts in this forum and see that a lot of us have PC problems caused by hardware errors. No two seem to be exactly the same. I've been having some problems that started about 6 to 8 weeks ago and was hoping I can get some assistance. It started with my PC rebooting and then running CHKDSK automatically when it came back up. I would usually get an error message stating that Windows has recovered from a serious error, but didn't list anything specific. Once I did get to my desktop I would get a similar message and then it asked me if I wanted to send an error report to Microsoft.

After a few weeks of this, then my PC would just lock up. Couldn't use my mouse or keyboard. I would have to power off my CPU and reboot. But I received no error messages at all. The lock-up seemed to occur most often when the system was idle. Also, a few times when I was away from my PC for a while, when I came back my LCD would be in power saving mode, but I couldn't get it to display anything. I'm suspecting my PC locked-up again.

My latest problem is the BSOD, but this time it says my system is recovering from a hardware error, says it must shutdown to prevent any damage and runs CHKDSK again. When I get to my desktop I get the message asking if I want to send an error report to Microsoft. When I click on the button to display the error report, it took me here: http://wer.microsoft.com/responses/....2.0?SGD=901c364a-9ec6-43dd-833b-c2429628... Read more

A:Hardware Problem?

You mentioned that you got the BSOD by any chance did you get that Technical Information. If so what is it also did it provide a error if so what is it.

Now there are some BSOD that that information is pretty useless however there are some that are rather useful. For example the 0x000000ED Unmountable Boot Volume usualy has 2 solutions Replace the Hard Drive or repair the system using various methods and or reinstall the OS.
Also you mentioned that you got a chkdsk screen come up when starting the computer. This usualy indicates a failing Hard Drive. There is a amount of failing in a hard drive that is considered acceptable. If you are not getting a persistent Blue screen then you could probably excape a Hard drive replacement and just do a chkdsk in the recovery console.

Did your hard drive or computer come with any diagnostics if so run them.

one quick way to find out is if you get the bsod dump file and upload it to us. the file is located in c:\windows\minidump. its called *.dmp. if it isnt in minidump you can search for *.dmp. once you find it zip it and upload it to us by using the attachment icon (shaped like a peperclip) in you reply

If you need help with this just let us know
