I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

my mother bought a refurbished acer aspire one D270 nine or so months ago and its pretty obvious who ever "refurbished" it had no idea what they were doing (considering the only thing they changed was the os) it has the same 1GB RAM and 320 GB HDD it came with and everything else was in place, (aside from the fact that the webcam doesnt have the protective lens and doesnt work, leading me to believe they tried somthing with that)

but i digress, my problem is that it seems they pirated windows 8 and installed it onto the system, my mom started up the computer and after it booted up we got a screen stating windows 8 hadn't been activated, after about a month my mom asked if there was some way to take it back to factory settings (my sister had done this for her system the year before) and going through the computer i could not find any option to do that, bringing up setup and the boot menu doesnt give me this option either, upon further delving into the files on the computer i realised they had completely removed the original os (windows 7 starter) and i have no idea where to go from here other then to buy a whole new operating system, which i would like to avoid if possible.

A:what to do if the original os has been deleted

In the Search Box, type Activate Windows. Select and if Windows is genuine you'll get the message Activation was successful.

Hello all,

I was recently looking up some solutions for a Photoshop problem i had recently and one of the solutions were that i delete some of the original windows fonts
turns out....that solution did not fix my Photoshop and i would like to know if there is any way to get back the original windows fonts i deleted?
i have already tryed system restore but it goes way to far back to when i really had serious issues with my comp so is there any other way?
as always thanx for any help you guys can give a me.

A:Deleted Original Windows Fonts how to get them back?

You could try a repair install, that might replace the fonts, but I'm not sure.

You also might be able to find the fonts in question on your install dvd. It would be located within the x86/x64 directory and then under the fonts directory. If you can't find it, search for it via the search command.

I had a post about a 2nd computer that was killing my internet connection, and it appears to be gone. I had an issue with a mysmas.exe, and a google search would bring up my post here, so I tried that to make sure, and it no longer came up.

My problem started with my girlfriend's computer seeming to kill the internet connection. I'd power cycle the modem/router and leave hers off and all would be fine. But when hers was turned on, the internet would stop responding pretty quickly.

I ran some anti-spyware and posted an HJT in the original post. I also looked over her processes and folders and found some unknown .exe files that I could find no info on. She had an lsass.exe and an Isass.exe (with a capital i), the latter being a hidden file in the same folder as the other, as well as a process called BWProxyClient.exe.

Thereabouts, I began having issues on my computer even with hers off. I ran some more anti-spy, including AVG, which found some trojan hiders, including the questionable .exe files. After cleaning those, I found a couple other .exe's on both computers, so it appeared to be replicating.

All throughout the process, I kept seeing this mysmas.exe in processes on both machines, and I'd end process on it and briefly gain connection again. I found and disabled mysmas.exe in msconfig>services, and then internet seemed to work fine again.

So then I took both to trend micro's house call site, which is when RTKT_FARFLI.UW was found. And on... Read more

A:RTKT_FARFLI.UW, unknown .exe's, ms04-ms09, original post deleted?

After disabling mysmas.exe, both computers have been able to stay connected to the internet without the interrupt issue. Only problem I have had is sometimes in connecting to yahoo.

AVG has popped up a few more times tho with messages about hacker programs, so I'm pretty sure whatever I have hasn't been delt with totally. I simply cut out the infected exe that was cutting off internet.

Using Internet Explorer 7.0 - I use a website that has links that open up into a new window, and a Quicktime video comes up... I'm using a lap top that I've had for almost a year, but haven't used online much... anyway, when I click on the link, a new window opens, and the video begins to play.... but the original window also changes to the video, so they are BOTH playing, at the same time. How can I change it so that the new window opens and plays the video, but the original window stays on the page where the original link was selected?
Additional Details
I've been going to the site using both Firefox and IE7 on THIS computer with no problem, but the problem is with the OTHER laptop... The site is lynda.com - but for the above reason, I don't think it's a problem with their site. Where, on IE7, can I find "preferences"? Is there such a thing?

A:Click on link, new window opens AND same opens in original window

Look under Tools in IE and click on Internet Options. Look in Control Panel under Folder Options as well. Hope this helps. Jazz

This computer has never worked well since upgrading from the factory installed 8.1 to Windows 10.  It kept crashing or giving my low memory messages.   It does not seem to have a hardware problem (according to HPwwhen I first starting having problems).  It recently crashed and did a disk error recovery and now it seems Windows 10 is not fully installed and I have lost my bookmarks in my browsers and some of the older software.  I want to reload all of the softward before I give up on this machine--it is less than 2 years old.  Anyway, I see from the microsoft page, I can redownload Windows10.  My question is should I do a system recovery to the factory installed windows 8 before I I upgrade to Windows10?   Will Microsoft recognize I have a valid copy of windows10 if I start totally over?  I have a USB drive labelled recovery, date 4/2016.  Not sure if it 8 or 10, probably 10, but it could be corrupted, too.

Hi, As the machine has been previously upgraded to 10, a hardware profile ( Digital Entitlement ) will have been recorded by the activation servers. As long as the previous installation of Windows 10 had activated Ok after the upgrade from 8.1, you can just create your own installation media and perform a clean installation as detailed in the guide on the following link.  Note: At the activation screen, select 'I don't have a Product key' - Windows will activate automatically once the installation has completed. http://www.howtogeek.com/224342/how-to-clean-install-windows-10/ Regards, DP-K

My window sizes and positions are a mess and I was wondering if there is a way to reset the windows so the next time I open the program they look as if I opened them for the first time. I am experiencing an issue with IE 11 where I click on a web link that is supposed to open in a new tab, it does but the original window also goes to that page. I have tried looking in the tabs section and nothing is out of the ordinary. I have gone though the advanced settings and nothing is out of place and I have fully reset IE without correcting the issue. I loaded Firefox and went to the same web page. Firefox also acts weird in that it leaves the original page alone but rather than open it in a new tab it opens the page in a new window. So does anyone know why this is happening and what would effect both browsers but manifest in a different manner in each.
Thanks.

did you change the boot order in the bios to boot from CD first

if you can borrow another PC with a DVD/CD writer - you can create a UBUNTU bootable DVD and run from the CD drive on the faulty drive and hopefully copy all your data off

UBUNTU Stand Alone CD

Note the latest version of UBUNTU needs a DVD to use and boot from

if you only have CDs then you can use an older version, version 10 or 11 from this archive list

It may be possible to boot from another Operating System
This will at least test the Hardware and also see if you can see the Harddrive and possibly get data off.

If you have another PC with a cdwriter and spare CD

You can also run from a USB device now - if the Machine supports booting off a USB Stick

Your help with this is *tremendously* appreciated, as I'm dead in the water (stuck on the other side of the world) w/an essentially non-functional laptop trying to work done for a client....

Have run AVG several times with a clean run, as well as Avast!, VundoFix and ATF Cleaner. However, whenever I go to open up a Firefox browser, go to a new url, click on a link, IE launches a pop-up window. Occasionally, it will keep spawning windows.

All I can do is try to kill the process as soon as I see it start up. Strange thing is, however, just a split second before the ie process starts up, I will get the Avast! script blocker (like it's going to kill something) and then it disappears. That's when the IE pop-up window (urging me to buy something). It may be noted that I had "Webbuyer.exe" in my Programs file earlier which was cleared out by AVG, but I keep getting the IE pop-ups anyway.

Hi guys.

This evening I went onto my Windows Vista laptop just to browse the internet when I noticed this message pop up straight after I had booted up:

I saw that it had been deleted and I have no idea why. Now, I'm not an expert at computers but I knew this wasn't good, so I clicked 'restore' and I never saw it again. However I restarted and noticed it again, but I didn't click 'restore' this time, and as I went to download a file it wouldn't download (something along the lines of: .exe couldn't be downloaded... please contact administrator)

I don't think it can be serious because as soon as I 'restore' it everything's back to normal, but it is really annoying that after every statup this pops up. Please can you help me rectify this and allow me to have a stressless time whilst browing on my laptop.

I assume it is OS (operating system) disc you mean ?

You should also have a Cd with chipset/motherboard drivers. If you have, install network drivers from there.

Can I recover messages I accidentally deleted in Outlook Express of Windows 2000XP? These messages were in their own file but somehow got moved to a subfile of the Deleted Items folder. In trying to removed the Deleted Items folder the sub-folder went with it. There were a large number of messages I had received via e-mail that I intended to keep.

Hi

My mums computer was full of viruses and malware so i thought i'd help her bydoing a fresh install of windows xp on it. Her computer is a fujitsi siemens lifebook E6540. I ran killdisk, 1 pass zeros on the HD. Now when i turn it on all that happens is the boot screen with the fujitsi
siemens logo doesn't come up all that does is:

Batchfile 'A:\AUTOEXEC.BAT' not found
A:\>
does this mean i have to reflash the bios. The only cd that works is the one with the killdisk boot on it. please help someone.

A:Help required please, deleted HD with killdisk think i may have deleted bios

Check the floppy dirve for a disc . . and, wiping a drive will not affect BIOS . l. it resides on a chip on the motherboard. Why use some third party program to wipe the drive . . you can boot from the XP install cd and do it from there.

Enter your BIOS and reset to defaults . . then change boot order to first boot from CD and restart with the XP in the drive.

Hello All,
I've never seen this happen before.
I have a main directory with 80 files in it. I created 8 sub-directories under the main directory and put 10 files in each one. I then went back to the main directory and deleted the 80 files that are there. The files I deleted from the main directory were also deleted from the sub-directories! I had to restore everything from the recycle bin! Why did this happen?
Thanks,
Carthusian

Hi. I have a bunch of pics in my "My Pictures" folder that, I've copied from the net and then changed the name so that I can find the pic I want to see quickly. But when I look in that folder later I not only have the files with the names I want but, also the same pictures with their original names.

I've deleted them several times, and each time they return. I've mass deleted, and deleted them one by one (Some 80 pics). I'm really beginning to wonder if I shouldn't just dump the laptop for good.

Can some one please help me?

I have Picasa and Quicktime if that would make a difference. I have really come to hate all forms of Windows for various reasons, but am reluctant to spend the time and the money to move to a different OS.

Whenever I add an attachment to my emails, and even here on your website when I uploaded the attached pics, the 'Choose to Upload' pop-up window containing (in this case) my pics ALWAYS (but never used to) opens in the Details mode instead of Thumbnails where I can actually view the pics to be attached prior to attaching them.
I would like the default setting for this occurrence to obviously be in the Thumbnails mode.

In a related issue I would also like to be able to load more than one pic at a time when attaching pics to emails, etc...
Is there such a setting?

Thanks for the assistance

i couldnt think of how to describe it for the title easily and I am about to go home to maybe tomorrow I will work it out.

My Vista box is currently demonstrating curious behaviour. When I open IE7 I select a favorite and it opens a new window with that favorite in it. If I do a search with my default provider in the original window, the search results appear in a new tab in the second window.

The second window does not display this behaviour. It works normally with my standard settings - open favorites in the current tab.

Again, favorites chosen in the first window continue to appear in the second window. Search results too.

Running IE7 in safe mode stops this behaviour but I have not installed any new software and I have removed all my temporary internet files/addon settings etc.

Any ideas would be great. Funny old game eh

Hi,
Thanks for all the help. I want to make my shorcuts start programs and windows (In WIndows Xp Pro SP3) at a certain position and with a certain size.

For instance I want to open Excell at position 20,30 (x,y) with a window size of 750 x 200, or maybe a internet explorer window at position 129, 357 with a window size of 562 x 397.

I gave the odd numbers in the example so that people responding will understand that I want CUSTOM SIZES. I know how to set the shortcuts to start maximized and minimized and also window tiling. That's not what I'm talking about. Does anyone know of shortcut switch that I can use?

For instance in some games if you want to start the game with cheats enabled, you put "-devmode" after the directory path in the "target" box of the shortcut properties.

Is there any other way?

There is an awesome program called "Montage3"
http://www.ideaxchg.com/montage/

which I use, but isn't exactly what I'm looking for. Please help out.
