Firefox loses browser share third month running.

Q: Firefox loses browser share third month running.

Mozilla's Firefox lost share in February, the third consecutive month that the browser has slipped, according to metrics data published today.
Google's Chrome, meanwhile, continued its climb for the 16th straight month.

Firefox lost about 0.2 of a percentage point last month to end with a usage share of 24.2%. It was the third month in a row that Mozilla's browser fell in the rankings posted by Web measurement vendor NetApplications.com. Previous dips in Mozilla's share were one-month blips; this is the browser's first sustained decline in NetApplications' numbers.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

'Security flaws' + slower speed + many bug fixes/updates vs new 'in thing' = No real surprise.

I have been looking high and low for a cure for this issue.

When you open one(1) Firefox window, focus remains as it should, on the window you just clicked. However, if you open a second window while the first is still up, the new window comes up and then the title bar and the button on the task bar flash a couple of times and the window loses focus. This continues for however many more browsers you open after that, all those little buttons flashing...

Next thing you know, your trying to find that browser in the midst of other windows that are on the desktop so you can click on it to bring it into focus!

What I already know about this problem is I'm not the only one having this problem and others haven't found the fix either.

One definite key might be that the version number of Firefox makes a difference, it seems as if anything newer than about ver 1.5 to present will cause this problem. Versions 1.5 and lower seems to work fine, that is, the second window opens in focus like it should, (or third or forth etc.). Unfortunately, that browser is too old to work with some websites.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be greatly welcomed.

A:Firefox Browser Loses Focus on Launch

Hi mikegreywindows,

I'm assuming when you say 'new window', you do actually mean window and not tab. Also I'm assuming you have no Tab control related extensions so, I suggest you check the behaviour you require by going to:-

Tools > Options > Tabs (Tab at top) and here is a setting; Open links that open in a new window in: and now you have a choice of New Window, New Tab or Current tab.

The latest wave of upcoming changes to the world's two most used Web browsers, jointly responsible for easily three-fourths of the Internet's HTTP requests, has nearly everyone in the business rethinking the meaning of "quality" as it pertains to browser architecture. While their arguments start with the usual reminders that folks just want to see their pages load faster, before too long, they wander into dissertations about the methods architects use to achieve the appearance of loading faster. . . especially when they actually don't.

In preparing to test Microsoft's first Internet Explorer 9 public beta, released last week, and Mozilla's public Firefox 4 beta, released late last month, the advice I received most often fell into two departments: 1) Pay more attention to graphics rendering, since new browsers will be spending more time processing Web apps than just displaying pages; 2) start paying attention to how browsers utilize memory and CPU cycles. Since my smarter readers are typically right, that's what I've done in crafting my all-new browser performance test suite.

In the first round of total scores for the latest beta builds, the first IE9 beta has squeaked by the latest FF4 beta by about 8%. These scores take into account four major departments: computational ability (30%), rendering ability (30%), scalability (losing less processing ability over time as processing jobs scale up, 20%), and now, hardware utilization efficiency (20%). A:Firefox 4 beta loses to IE9 beta in browser speed, efficiency tests

I'm all for fast processing on my computer, but I'll be honest in that I don't really feel much difference whatsoever between IE, Firefox, Chrome and Opera and it's been like that for me over the past 2-3 years. My reasons for liking Firefox so much have to do with features coming sooner (pop-up blocker, tabbed browsing, add-on support, tear off tabs) and familiarity with the product(when you spend so much time with something, it becomes second nature.). So, for me, unless another tool comes that does something radically better, I'm not even inclined to give the other products a chance. People can rant and rave about speed all they want...but it's one of the lowest factors in the mix for me.

Searched thru post, lots of near misses but no solution to my issue. Only on windows 10 does this problem exist.
I connect office equipment to customers pcs/networks. I use a script to create a hidden/special user that has admin permissions plus makes me a share folder. I then share out the folder with read/write permissions for the hidden user. It works great for days or weeks...until what seems to be win10 updates come across and my permission gets removed. The user is still there, the folder is still shared, but my user no longer works. If I create another user the same way, it works again until some time later.
Now the kicker is, this only happens on about 5% of my customers, other win10 installs have worked and still work. Its only some computers doing this. When I look at share permissions, full access is on. Now I have not tried the "everyone" permission.
Any suggestions?

Windows 7 Starts Growing Once Again as Windows 10 Loses Market Share

New market share data provided by NetMarketShare show that Windows 7 returned to growth in February, while Windows 10, which is Microsoft?s most recent desktop operating system, started losing ground.

Specifically, Windows 7 is the number one operating system on the desktop with a share of 48.41 percent, while Windows 10 is currently the runner-up with 25.19 percent. Windows XP is third with 8.45 percent, followed by Windows 8.1 with 6.87 percent.

As far as Windows 7 and Windows 10 are concerned, it looks like the older version is improving its market share once again, while the newer sibling is actually going down, not in a significant way, but still declining in a time when everyone expected it to grow.
Windows 7 improved from 47.20 percent to 48.41 percent, so it gained more than 1 percent market share in just a single month.

At the opposite pole there?s Windows 10, which dropped from 25.30 percent to 25.19 percent. As you can see, this isn?t a substantial drop, but it?s still a drop, despite Microsoft?s rather aggressive push for Windows 10 and the free upgrade offer that was supposed to bring everyone on the new OS.

Windows XP finally losing users
On the Windows XP front, there?s some pretty exciting news: the nearly 16-year-old operating system is losing ground as well, so it declined from 9.17 percent to 8.45 percent last month, which makes perfect sense given the fact that it no lo... Read more

I've got 2 things going on: browser loses connection to internet (though I can still ping) and the computer is now running extremely slow.

I recently put on zonealarm, which I believe is partially responsible for the slowness. I know I also have unneeded clutter that could be removed to speed things up. Any assistance in this would be greatly appreciated.

On to the connectivity, I've searched the archives and found a thread describing my connectivity issue almost exactly. Unfortunately the thread is closed and all but the initial post is obscured.

I see this in basically all usage statistics online. I have come to consider it normal. Just as my personal benchmarks are usually much higher than what I see posted by similar systems online.

The questions are what criteria is being used to obtain these statistics. As it's basically impossible to tell what everyone on the internet is using there simply is no localized database that contains those figures.

At the end of the day you could walk into a room full of people with colds and determine that everyone on earth has the sniffles.

Yo, whatsup y'all.
I just registered just for this problem, but I see this forum has a lot of members, so I'll be using this forum for sure.

The problem.
Well, Firefox loses connection if I browse on specific sites.
The sites are eBay, MySpace & Facebook.
It happens randomly, and it's very annoying, especially while I'm bidding on an item on eBay, I had this several times and I was so angry. I saw something for a very low price with 1 min remaining, I click, and bam, internet gone, there goes the steal for a rare item.
This also happens while searching/browsing the members on MySpace, and on Facebook it happens randomly.
Sometimes I have to wait 1 min. but most of the time I have to wait 5 minutes before I can browse again.

While this happens, all other software just works. MSN, Internet Explorer, etc.

Windows XP Home Edition
Wireless connection
Firefox (2 or 3 beta) No difference

Thanks y'all

I have read other threads in the forum and none have helped. I would like anything that i can try without reloading, i currently am currently not living at home so am not able to get to my Vista DVD. That and i have no portable to put my precious information on if i decided to use a less acceptable method to reload.

Here is my problem.

My browser will randomly lose internet connectivity. Other programs such as skype, steam and game ranger ect. Do work. I have tried restarts, though when i do, the browser still does not work, though game ranger always does. and sometimes neither does skype or steam, the OR means sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't. I use Firefox, IE 7, and Google Chrome.

In the past i have fixed it only through a system restore.

This happens randomly and about 5-6 frequent times every couple months.

It has done it at two locations, my friends house at which i am currently staying, and at the university i was staying at.

I do not have access to mess with routers.

I have tried (for the most reccent in which system restore did not fix it)
1.Making sure the InternetOptions>Connectivity>LanSettings proxy is unchecked.

How may i fix this so i do not have to system restore all the time?

Hi:A couple of things. When this started to happen(I am assuming this was not always a problem) any software/hardware changes?
If it happened more frequently,I might suggest running in safe mode with networking, but that probably is not an option for you.

You might go to your pc maker's web site, and download any more current drivers for your wireless adapter. If it is integrated, probably good to download the chipset driver first.
And I assume you have run your antivirus/spyware app, with nothing found ?
Lastly, when it fails,we might learn something from this info :

From a Johnwill post on the Networking Forum
Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

NOTE: For the items below surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous IPCONFIG command output! Do NOT type <computer_IP_address> into the command, that won't work. Also, the < and > in the text is to identify the parameters, they are also NOT used in the actual commands.

Do NOT include the <> either, they're just to identify the values for substitution.

Early August I put together a new gaming PC, here are the specs:
Intel Core i5-4690K, MSI GeForce GTX 960, Cooler Master HAF 912 - Siggy's Build - Mendenbarr's Saved Part List - PCPartPicker

It's been working fine up until a few days ago, when the fan started running much louder than normal. I downloaded a simple temp checker, and started to panic a little, as the CPU was running at 95C. Keep in mind this is a Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor running nothing more strenuous than runescape. I've tried restarting the computer in safe mode, and updating all my drivers, but I stupidly did both at the same time, causing the update to fail, safe mode to get stuck on "please wait" requiring a hard reset, and now windows update isn't managing to check for new updates within 2 minutes. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but the temp is up to 95C with nothing other than windows update running, so I just shut it down.

I'm planning on opening the case and trying to see if there is a problem with the CPU itself, or the fans, but I'm out of my element here and any advice would be helpful.

A:4 month old custom PC suddenly running very hot

Mendenbarr, welcome to SevenForums.
I would start with the CPU cooler first. What brand is it or is it the stock Intel cooler? I would at the very least see if the cpu mount is a little loose, like a slight wiggle loose. Plan on seeing if a snug down is in order, don't over tighten but the cpu cooler should be good and snugged down. If it is then go and purchase Arctic cleaner and Arctic silver thermal compound and plan on watching several YouTube videos on cleaning and reapplying.

What's going on?

A:Firefox loses Close and Minimize buttons

Are you running in "full-screen" mode, i.e. did you push the middle "square" button (between minimize and close)?

Something strange with FF running full-screen mode, I've also observed on a friend's machine. The Bookmarks Toolbar disappears when running full-screen, at least sometimes on this friend's machine (but not on all machines).

Clicking on the "double-squares" button (to return to "windowed" mode) brings back the Bookmarks Toolbar.

So just go to "windowed" mode, and drag the outer edges of the FF window to almost the edges of the screen. This will keep you in "windowed" mode, but will give you almost the entire screen size just about the same as "full-screen" mode. And your anomalies may disappear.

Win 8 seems to have made it more difficult not easier! I can't make heads or tails out of the instructions to create a network that will allow access to files back and forth between my Win 8 Desktop and my XP driven LapTop. Would you direct me to a simple step by step process describing how to do what I am trying to accomplish?

A:How to share files on Desktop running Win 8 from Laptop running XP

Short description for Windows 7 and 8 file and printer sharing:

Go into the Network and Sharing Center from the Control Panel or from the Network icon in the Notification Area. Your network must be designated 'Private' (or 'Home' or 'Work'). Click on Change advanced sharing settings. In the Private or Home or Work section you can configure File and printer sharing, Public folder sharing, and Password protected sharing.

You may want to change the Workgroup name. To check it or change it right click on "Computer" and select "Properties."

You must uninstall or properly configure any non-windows firewall (security suite).

A wizard way to enable file and printer sharing on XP:

Run the Network Setup wizard (found in Control Panel of XP). Tell it each of your computers connects to the internet via "residential gateway" and that you want to enable file and printer sharing. Create a disk at the end only if you have a PC with Windows ME or Windows older than ME.

Windows XP firewall (if SP2 or SP3) will be properly configured by the wizard (but make sure it is not set to “No Exceptions&#8221. You must uninstall or properly configure any 3rd party firewalls on each machine. Unique computer names and same workgroup, of course.

And make it click-to-play in 2017.

Mozilla's Firefox browser will start blocking Flash content "not essential to the user experience" from August 2016, the company said today, helping to hasten the achingly slow demise of the aging plugin. The move is the beginning of the end of Flash in Firefox ? Mozilla also said that from 2017, it would adopt a new click-to-activate policy that will require users to approve the use of Flash for any content on a page, advising sites that use Adobe's plugin or Microsoft Silverlight to "plan on adopting HTML technologies as soon as possible."

The company says its August change is expected to reduce Flash-related crashes and hangs in Firefox by up to 10 percent, as well as giving users "enhanced security, improved battery life, faster page load, and better browser responsiveness." Data shared as part of today's announcement shows that Firefox plugin crashes dropped when both YouTube and Facebook switched from Flash video as default to HTML5, part of a downward trend that coincides with Flash's slow retirement.

So, there was an automatic windows update on my machine a few days ago. It was some huge update that took hours, and afterwards it was acting like it had just installed Windows again. It had those placeholder screens saying how great Windows 10 was and that it was preparing my machine for first use, etc... I didn't have to do any major setup, like timezone and networks and stuff, but some of my regular apps had been reset and I had to reconfigure them. Other than that it seemed to be working fine. However, something began happening that is causing me a lot of grief. Every time I am on YouTube or Vimeo, the videos will play for a few minutes, but then the audio drops out and then the video will stop playing. That is in Chrome. In Firefox, the video stops for a second and then it starts back up like the network dropped out (compression artifacts, etc...). My network has been fine, it is 50meg broadband and is pretty solid. I have gone ahead and updated my audio (I have a G35 USB headset) and I updated my video drivers (nVidia GTX 980), rebooted the machine, rebooted the router and modem, and everything else that I can think of, but still the video does this to me. I also use sites like digital tutors, and their videos do the same thing. So it has to be something on my end. I am running out of ideas here and could use some help.

PS I did try to go back and look at the update that was installed, but it wiped my update history as well.

A:All video in every browser loses audio then stops after a few minutes

Well, after digging around and trying to find what the problem was, I discovered other odd things. When I opened the device manager, the list would constantly refresh, as if a device was being added and removed over and over. Occasionally the USB bus would reset, causing my Razer Chroma to shutoff it's lights and my mouse would stop for just a second while it reset, as well as causing the sound to drop out of my USB headset. After looking for a solution to 'that' problem, the only thing I found that seems to be working so far is this:
1. Scroll to the right and type 'Power Options' in the search field and click on it.
2. Click 'Change plan setting' on your chosen plan.
3. Click 'Change advanced power setting' on your chosen plan.
4. Find 'USB settings' and open.
5. Find 'USB selective suspend setting' and change it to disabled.

After doing that, my problems seemed to have stopped for now. I will keep an eye on it though. It is really strange that I would have all of this trouble just because of a windows update.

Below is my hijackthis log. After a period of time my browser loses connection with the internet. I then have to reboot to reestablish a connection. I have run Ad-Aware, Spybot S & D and Pest Patrol and restored to a 5/14/04 Restore Point that I thought was clean.

Any help with this persistant pest will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!!

I just installed W7 on my Dell Latitude D610. I have drive issues for my monitor, W7 does not recognize it and installs a generic Dell Cipset. The laptop worked great with XP and had no issues of being unplugged and losing colors. Has anyone run into this issue.

A:Laptop Screen Loses Color when running on Battery

AjBurke, Unfortunately, it doesn't appear as though this notebook was supported by Dell through Windows Vista, which lessens your chances of finding Windows 7-compatible drivers. I'd recommend installing the newest available drivers from Dell in compatibility mode for Windows XP. To do this, right click on the program .exe and open the Properties menu, then navigate to the compatibility tab and select "Run this program in compatibility mode for..."-Alex

A:laptop telling me it cant activate windows but its been running over a month

Were you requested to activate the product during your first month usage?
--- I set up someone's Win 8.1 laptop about a month ago and there was a comment that the activation would automatically occur within some period: I told my friend let's activate it now
There is a 25-character key involved and the activation recognized it automatically upon activation
--- Do you know what your 25 character key is?
I believe that after 30 days you need to contact Microsoft and I think you need to know the 25 character key
--- However, it might make sense to bring the computer back to where you bought it from so they can save you the time of contacting Microsoft, especially is you don't know the 25 character key is

Wife has small Acer laptop running 8.1 and running wirelessly. It keeps on losing internet connection although shows full wi-fi signal. Icon shows asterisk and network connection shows 'limited'. Acer suggested complete reset which has been done several
times and then have installed new motherboard but it still has the problem. Have checked for and installed network adapter driver (Realtek) updates but problem still persists. It works ok for about 1 or 2 weeks after a reset but then it all happens again.
TalkTalk changed the router to eliminate that. My desktop runs without any problems wired or wirelessly as do two other laptops (all now updated to Windows 10) and two Android phones. Dare not update Acer to Win 10 until I know it is not Acer problem
as guarantee about to run out. Spent 6 months trying to sort it.

I figured it out. Had to use "between". I was trying to just hone in on a particular month last year but I guess that was the lazy way out. Anyway, here's what I ended up with to compare May 02 to May 03:

Between DateSerial(Year(Date())-1,Month(Date())-1,1) And DateSerial(Year(Date())-1,Month(Date()),1)-1

I have a PC that dual boots to XP and Linux, with Firefox running in both.

Is there any way that I can 'share' a common set of bookmarks so that for example a bookmark that I add while in Linux would show up when I next go into XP.

I know I could play about with Export/Import, but I was looking for somthing more automatic.

A:Can I Share Firefox Bookmarks

Hi philnic.

Yeah there sure is a way to link your bookmarks, you just create a path to the file you want to use. I don't know anything about Linux but I'm guessing it uses a bookmarks.html file.

For the purposes of this explanation, lets assume the bookmarks.html file you want to use as a master file is in Linux and you want XP to read that bookmarks file, ok.

In XP create a user.js file (if it isn't already there) by opening Notepad and saving it as user.js in your Profile folder.

In that file you put the path to the bookmarks.html file you want to link to. It should look like this:-

// relocate Bookmarks.html file:
user_pref("browser.bookmarks.file", "C:\\Documents and Settings\\Keith\\Application Data\\Mozilla\\Firefox\\Profiles\\xxxxxxxx.ProfileName\\bookmarks.html");

(Obviously this is a Windows path). Whendone, close and save the user.js file. The x's in my path above represent random letters and numbers that precede your Profile name.

You could also have the bookmarks file somewhere else on your PC and link both Profiles in the same manner.

Hope that helped.

I don't wanna mess it up again, so someone please share the exact correct way of doing this.

A:How do I share files with a PC running XP?

In simple terms just make sure that both machines are using the same Workgroup name, make sure the files are shared and that Network Discovery etc. are turned on then in the advanced sharing settings then run the Network Connection setup wizard from the XP machine which should allow it to pick up the Win 7 machine and share files or folders.

There are other methods for doing this using the Public folders, just read through the following link.
Share Files and Printers between Windows 7 and XP

You can also network with other Op systems even if there is a Homegroup set up on the Windows 7 machines so a few different options for setting this up.

In Firefox click on the bookmark icon choose Show All Bookmarks Click on Import and Backup and export bookmarks as HTML and save it somewhere then copy it to a USB drive and do the same on the other computer but choose Import Bookmarks as HTML, navigate to the file and import it. You can do the same in Internet Explorer by clicking on the Bookmark icon at the top right then click Add to Favorites then Import and Export choose Import from a file then tick favorites in the next window then next and again navigate to your HTML file and import it

I used to only use PC and I have been using Mac's for the last 10 or so years. But I still have PC's for certain programs.

Here is my issue: I have a PC laptop that runs some accounting software on Windows 7. I have another Mac computer that is running Windows 7 on Parallels Desktop. I need for the accounting software running on W7 inside the Mac to see the folder/s on the PC to share the data. While both computers are technically on the same network, they are not because the Mac computer is supplying the Parallels version with the internet. So the Parallel W7 thinks it has an ethernet connection.

I am mostly positive that this is why Workgroups do not work. But as I have said I am so far out of the loop I really no longer no much at all about administering a PC.

How do I let the two operating systems see each other and share folders?
Any help would be appreciated.

I just bought a new PC with Windows 7 Professional.

I want to keep using my old PC running XP Professional but pretty much have it act like a server where I can access or share it's hard drives with my Windows 7 system and my laptop which is also running XP.

I noticed that XP uses the workgroup name as MSHOME and Windows 7 uses something else. I should also add that at times, I have found (in the past) sharing my drives with my laptop kind of flaky where sometimes it wouldn't show or allow the drives.

In addition, I have three profiles or users attached to XP. What I plan to do since I only have one monitor is to turn on my old (XP) PC and then leave it running without accessing a particlular profile or user. None of the users are password protected and I have disabled all firewalls including Zonealarm and Windows Firewall to ensure that my connection isn't blocked when I am trying to access the drives.

Any comments or suggestions on how to network share given my situation? I do realize that I am putting myself at risk by disabling the firewall, but at the present time, I want to ensure all the PCS can communicate with each other.

jfree, a big welcome to you to Sevenforums!

On both Windows 7 and Vista, make sure under advanced sharing settings (find by typing phrase into start menu search) that you turn on network discovery and file and printer sharing (both computers).

On the Vista one (without the printer installed), in the start menu search bar, type 'add printer' without quotes and click it. Go through the steps to search for and install the printer driver (and thus the printer) to which you are connecting.

Hope this answers your question. Let me know if it does or not.

a while ago my mom's laptop was stolen. because of that she's been using my computer. well, a little while after she did i think some kind of virus got onto the computer. the warning bells sounded when i began hearing these advertisements playing for different products when a browser wasn't even open. i tried shutting off the computer when this happened and the advertisements kept playing even at the shut down screen, so i had to force quit. after that i installed zonealarm. apparently hotshows.org was trying to connect to the computer but zonealarm blocked it. another ip was also attempting to establish a connection to the pc which zonealarm also blocked. ran an antivirus scan with zonealarm but it turned up nothing so i uninstalled it and went through a number of other scanners including kaspersky and bitdefender which also turned up nothing.

at this point we tried repairing windows with an old xp cd with service pack 1. unfortunately, it did both nothing, made the software on the computer outdated and since the activation key we had no longer worked we had a trial going! fortunately we managed to get it installed and activated again, but that wasn't the least of my worries. apparently this virus or whatever it is is actually blocking the internet connection. google chrome, opera and internet explorer all DO NOT work. opera, for example, says it "cannot connect to proxy server" and "access is denied". ie is especially a problem because i can't use mic...
