sfc scannow file error; then used SFCFix log provided

Q: sfc scannow file error; then used SFCFix log provided

I've found that the sfc scannow won't complete; it stops around 41%. I have rebooted in safe mode and attempted the same with exact same result at 41 percent. I found a similar member with this same issue, and it was recommended that they download and run SFCFix. I have done that, and I received the following:

Error: 87
An error occurred while processing the command. Ensure that the command-line arguments are valid. For more information, review the log file.

Below first is my system info, and below that is the dism.log. I'd appreciate any assistance with this matter because I use this computer for graduate school, and I don't have the ability to use the windows start button. Typically, I wouldn't have updated my Windows 7 to 10, but I was happy to see the return of the start button; however, I'm seriously regretting my decision. Thank you to anyone that has a solution in advance.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi Folks!
I have a new instalation (clean) of win 10 in my machine. SFC acuses some erros, but it says that can't fix them. So, I'm trying a tool called SFCFix.exe. It can't fix the problem as well. I've read a lot about this errors in Windows 10, so I'm sending the links to screen to show what's happen when I run scf /scannow and SFCFix.exe. I'm sending links to SFCFixCrashDumps as well. Hope anyone can help-me to get my win10 running without errors again.

A:SFC / SCANNOW Error Cannot verify file.

Hi Elia,
its only reporting them as info Not real errors, it would state error as opposed to info.

You could run the following as a second check, might take a while thou

Depends on your issues you didnt say what they were.

A:Windows 7 64 bit spontaneous restart, Memory dump file provided, ty

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

So here's the message I left on the Windows official forums, which has garnered no response. I'm hoping someone here can help.

To clear something up, I tried removing the video card driver from the system, then removed the card itself leaving only the on board video. I presume that thanks to this, the issue isn't from the video card whose drivers I removed and, well, the card not being physically in the system.

I have a $windows.~bt folder but don't know where to find the error logs. L

The only other major thing that I added was Office 2010, is that a known issue at all?

Anyway, here's my message.

Hi everyone,

I'm having issues with Windows 8. Previously right after purchasing a new HP Pavilion h8-1227, before doing much of anything, I was able to easily install Windows 8. Shortly after, I updated the video driver and installed a few apps (Office and a few small others) then rebooted.*

When I was brought back to windows, I got the frowny face error and Windows tried to do a system repair/restore. I tried doing this and it froze at this processes, would not no matter how long I tried. I tried doing a repair after burning a CD, thinking there would be some joy there, but I was unable to get past this. I would load everything up and then get an error stating that nothing could be done, the drive was locked.*

So I rolled back to Windows 7 via the recovery partition, which was miserable as I had to reinstall all that I put on. After doing this and setti... Read more

Hi,

Recently i've been having problems burning DVD's with my PC. Everytime i try to burn a DVD, it keeps giving me an error and says the DVD cannot be burned, but it doesn't tell me what the error is. I've tried both Windows DVD Maker and Nero but both say error as soon as it's time to burn the disc. I've just tried to burn an Audio CD and it burns that just fine, so i don't know what the problem is. I've burnt DVD's using both software mentioned before without any problems, and i don't burn DVD's often so i'm really hoping someone can help with this problem.

I've provided an error log from Nero, i hope this can help diagnose the problem.

Thanks

Hello yeyo,

That message means that SFC was unable to repair some found corrupted system files since the replacement files in the component store for them is also corrupted.

Before going through the trouble of fixing the component store, go ahead and use OPTION THREE in the tutorial below to create a sfcdetails.txt file, and upload it here. I'll be happy to take a look at it to see what system files it said were corrupted to see if they are any that you could do without having to repair if you like.

Hello All,
My system was acting a little funny so I ran an sfc /scannow of the system from my command prompt. It came back with the message

Windows resource protection found corrupt files and was unable to fix them. The details are in the CBS log.Note that logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenarios. Well I worked for a couple of hours to fix this error by restoring my computer then resetting my computer all to no avail, the error was still there. I finally re-formaated the drive and installed Windows 10 from scratch and there were no errors. Great. I did several things and updates and all kinds of things and still no error. Great. As soon as I installed my Microsoft 365 and ran the sfc /scannow the error reappeared. Of course I am not 100% sure that the two are connected but I think that that are.

Again I tried for hours to correct the error and I can not fix it with my limited knowledge and ability. In my CBS log I see that the error might be:

RE : DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealh.................. I get error: 0x800f081f, the source file could not be found

Use the Tech Bench link below to download YOUR version of Windows 10 iso file.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...load/techbench

Once you have the iso downloaded, right click at the ISO > click Mount > leave it there.

Then open the elevated command prompt and copy and paste this................

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:wim:H:\sources\install.wim:1 /limitaccess

Note : H is the drive where the iso is mounted. Change it if your driver letter is different.

When it is completed, you should get the report that the operation is successful.
Now run the sfc /scannow again. It should be ok this time.

A:sfc /scannow - Some file cannot be repaired.

Hi pbgamer7 These files (utc.app.json and telemetry.ASM-WindowsDefault.json) are falsely reported as corrupt by SFC. Microsoft is aware of this situation and they said that this issue will be fixed in a later update. These files aren't corrupt and they won't affect anything on your system. You can leave it be without any consequences. For more information, see the Microsoft Article below.https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3022345This update contains the following files that are occasionally updated by the Diagnostic Tracking Service:telemetry.ASM-WindowsDefault.jsonutc.app.jsonThe two files are marked as static files in the update. When an advanced user runs the System File Checker Tool (sfc.exe), the files are unintentionally flagged as corrupted. There is no impact or actual corruption on a device running this update, and a later service update will resolve this issue.

The following images show how to make a batch file for sfc /scannow that opens with one or two clicks:

They are numbered in the order of reading them.

I numbered them because they never show up in the proper order when attached.

A:Making sfc /scannow .bat file

Thanks for sharing the info. However, a simple way to create a bat file is to right click on the desktop->New->Text Document and enter 2 statements on separate lines: sfc /scannow, pause then save it as RunSFC.bat or whatever you name it.

NOTE: you need to put a pause statement after sfc /scannow so that the user will have a chance to read the output message, otherwise the command windows just simply closes.

Hi all. I am having some issues with my PC, and it would be great if someone could help me out.

Crashes almost always occur while browsing firefox- and they seem to occur more frequently when I have a ton of tabs open. I can run Mass Effect 3, Diablo 3, and Witcher 2, and KoA: Amalaur at max settings with no issues. (Ok, that's not really true- I can't run Witcher 2 at the "uber" setting). The only time I experienced BSODs in a game was Batman: Arkham City.

CPU temps are low, I've turned all overclocking off. The GPU is factory overclocked, but I have tried underclocking with MSI afterburner to stock speeds w/ no luck. I've run memtest 3 times through on each memory dimm card (I isolated them and tested separately). I know that some ram can pass through memtest but still be corrupted. That's fine- it's the cheapest component to replace, really. But I just want to make sure it's not some stupid driver issue that I can't identify. I would really appreciate it if anyone here has a moment to take a look. Thanks!

I ran a system file check and have a corrupt file that couldn't be fixed.

secdrv.sys of Macrovision-Protection-SafeDisc

How can I fix this?

A:sfc /scannow unable to fix corrupt file

Hello.
secdrv.sys is used by games which use Macrovision SafeDisc. The driver validates the authenticity of games that are protected with SafeDisc and prohibits unauthorized copies of such games to play on Windows. Without the driver, games with SafeDisc protection would be unable to play on Windows. SafeDisc remains inactive until invoked by a game for authorization to play on Windows.  http://www.file.net/process/secdrv.sys.html.

If you are not having any issues with your system, I wouldn't worry about this error.

As a future reference, the nvlddmkm.sys files are the Nvidia graphics drivers files that are initially stored in the Windows local driver repository that comes when you install Windows. These are not crucial kernel files for Windows, and you can easily find an update of them by going to the Nvidia or any appropriate website and downloading and installing an update of the drivers. Better yet, it's recommended you do so, since the local driver cache for Windows is old.

Hi,

I hope I'm posting this in the right place; however, I have an issue.

I ran an sfc/scannow to hopefully fix an connection error I had with Microsoft Office 2013. It came back with this:

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenarios.

I hope someone may help!
Thanks!

I have tried all Windows updates, checked for viruses, done everything within my power, but nothing seems to work. Whenever I open anything that requires Windows Explorer, it that program crashes. I can watch videos online, but not in Windows Media Player, Real Player or Quick Time. I cannot access "My Computer" because it tells me Windows has stopped working. I run the Command Prompt and do a Scannow, and when it comes to the report, it tells me it has stopped working and needs to close. It started when both Flash Player and Java started to malfunction, but I updated those and they work just fine on the internet. For some reason, I don't have any System Restore Points, so that is not an option. My CBS log file shows a couple of issues, but I am not a computer geek so have no idea if this is my problem, and if it is, what do I do to fix it?

A:How do I fix a corrupt file in Windows 7 that Scannow can't.

Hello Piper52 and welcome to Seven Forums.

Try running the System File Checker scan at least three times as recommended in this tutorial (Option Two, Step 4, "Note".) Reboot the computer immediately following each scan. That might fix the damaged or corrupt files.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If the problem persists you could follow the additional "Note" suggestions. If still no success you could try extracting a clean copy of the damaged/corrupt file(s) from a Windows 7 installation disk. The instructions are in the "Tip" box at the bottom of Option Three. Or, in the alternative, you could wait to see if one of the Forum experts can provide a specific fix for your computer. Personally, I'd go straight to a Repair Install.

Repair Install

If successful, the Repair Install should fix your currently installed Windows 7 and preserve your user accounts, data, programs, system drivers, etc. The third item in the "Warning" box explains how to obtain a legal Windows 7 installation disk should you need one.

A:SFC/scannow found corrupt file CBS.log help

I have found in general, that sfc /scannow will NOT fix corrupted files when run from within Windows; however, when I ran it booting to a command line from a Win7 DVD, it always worked. IF you're running it from inside Windows, try it from the DVD.

Also, suddent shutdowns like this, especially with the fan still running, imply an overheating problem. Does it drop after 5 minutes even after it's been off all night? OR does it only do that if you turn it back on after it's been running?

The other primary causes of shutdowns is a failing hard drive -- because Windows will attempt to write log files and other stuff as soon as it starts, and if those writes fail, the PC is liable to shut down.

I have an HP ENVY dt7 running Windows 8, purchased Nov 2012. Have already had to do 1 refresh. As of yesterday, it's again back where it was before the last refresh (IE, Firefox, Outlook won't run). Found your SFC tutorial and ran it. Came back w/unrepaired errors 3x in a row When I tried to pull the txt file to my desktop, it tells me 'Cannot open" the full path of the spec'd file. When I try to open the log thru explorer, it tells me "access denied" even thou my account is admin level.

I have 2 questions if you don't mind:

1-can I try another way to read the log?

2-are you seeing more problems with HP notebooks? I am wondering if I should just install my Win7Proon the box. The longest period of productivity I've had since getting the new box & 8 has literally been 3 days before an update seems to break it again. Or does that seem too frequent to be just an OS issue and perhaps the hardware is also dodgy?

Sorry - that's prob more than 2 questions. I'd be SO grateful for any help. I don't know what to do at this point. Except to be extremely thankful my iPhone works

Thanks a mil in advance!!

How can I solve this?

Guys, thanks for the help but here I would like ask a help for my problem. Let me explain it.

At first it begins after I uninstalled some games with revo unninstaller I uninstall it using logs from install monitoring feature of revo uninstaller. but then I realize my wifi icon at the taskbar doesnt show the signal strength when I am connected to the internet.

And so I restored my computer using system restore which is failed and show errors after reboot saying that the restoration was failed to replace files at c:\windows. I try it using older restore point and end up the same but then I read about clean boot and it works I was able to restore it succesfully and my wifi taskbar icon now showing the signal strength.

But it still let me wonder if my system is at a good state so I read more and learn about sfc /scannow.
I tried it 4 times or more and it always results in "find corrupt files and successfully repaired them" (need reboot). I give the link for my cbs log file hope you guys can help me.

But its best to wait for an expert.
