T460s trackpad issues on Windows 10

Q: T460s trackpad issues on Windows 10

Anyone else have these problems with the trackpad on their T460s on Windows 10? Any fixes? Three finger scroll stops working after sleepAfter using the trackpoint, the touchpad becomes erratic forcing me to disable the trackpoint in settings ( which is annoying since the trackpoint is one of the reasons I bought this thing! )I have installed the latest ultranav drivers ( April ) from the lenovo site but the issues remain. The release notes even say that three finger scroll has been fixed but in my case it is not.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: T460s trackpad issues on Windows 10

I could not reproduce these issues with the latest web-release driver 19.0.17.77:

three-finger scroll works before and after sleep. scroll down to show desktop. scroll up to show application switcher. scroll left/right to switch applications
I did not notice any erratic touchpad, so can you be more specific what you are doing/seeing?

These issues may be caused by non-default mouse/trackpoint/touchpad settings, so can you clarify if you have changed any settings to cause these issues?

Hi everyone, I've just received my first thinkpad - a t460s running windows 10. I'm having some difficulty configuring both the trackpoint and the trackpad, and would like some advice. You see, I feel like I'm getting inconsistent responses from both devices. Now, it's hard to describe all of what's going on, but there are three things that stand out:1. The trackpad seems to be slow most of the time, except when I make a larger move, in which case it's very quick.2. Similar behaviour for the trackpoint.3. The trackpoint is tiring to use inasmuch as it requires a lot of force to move. And yes, I always try using the absolute minimum force. Now, I could go about experimenting with the synaptics drivers for ages, except that there are so many options within the synaptics settings PLUS there are options in the microsoft settings. Combined, it's rather confusing to know where to start. Can some people who have configured their trackpad well show me how they did it? I would also appreciate some help with the trackpoint, though please forgive my slowness as I've never actually used one of these before. I bought a thinkpad on their reputation for having particularly good input devices, particularly keyboards, which is important to me as I've had RSI for years. As such, I'd really appreciate the help!

Recently, the software on my thinkpad was updated. Before the update there was no trackpad issue. After the update I've noticed when scolling using the trackpad the arrow on the screen would stall for a brief moment. I checked the settings through device manager and there were no system problems. Not sure if this is a problem on the PC or one arrising from the update.

Thank You

Hello. I have an issue with T460s Trackpad. Now I am using the t460s with minimizing the trackpad palm threshold. The driver version for trackpad pad is 19.3.4.97, and the bios version is 1.28. To check where the problem comes from, I swap the trackpad with x1 caron 3rd.x1 carbon 3rd works fine with the t460s trackpad.T460s shows the same problem. (even though it uses x1 carbon 3rd trackpad) I tried to roll back the bios; however, I was not able to roll back the bios below 1.27 version. With bios version 1.27, it shows the same problem Does anyone have the same issue with me, and solve the problem??  Thank you

Hello! I've seen numerous posts on this topic, but absolutely no resolution.  My T460s trackpad is virtually unusable.  It's tracking is very slow, or non-existent.  Two-finger gestures work just fine (scroll, zoom).  I've read forum threads suggesting disabling the trackpoint fixes the issue, and that is correct.  Unfortunately, a big reason I purchased a  ThinkPad is for the trackpoint - this is not an option. I've tried upgrading to the absolute latest driver from Lenovo (19.3.4.214), and still poor performance. Downgrading to an old version of the driver (19.0.17.115) showed the trackpad works just fine...with trackpoint enabled, no less!  But it is no solution - Windows 10 simply upgrades the driver to the unusable version. System info:T460s (MTM: 20F90019US)Windows 10 Pro (ver. 1803), build 17134.254 This is really disappointing.  It's a clearly documented issue dating back more than a year, yet it the bug persists.  Lenovo - please take a serious look at this issue.  I get that the T460s is "older", but it's still under warranty - that's got to count for something!

I purchased a Yoga 300 less than a week ago and ever since purchase it has been running laggily. It was a display model (I realise this may be part of the reason it lags); however I have had particular trouble with my trackpad. Every time I tried to scroll with two fingers, it would jerkily try to catch up, and beeped loudly. I downloaded the new Windows 10 driver to fix this issue, only now it only scrolls when it decides to, and slowly at that! Currently I can only scroll by using the cursor on the screen, or with the arrow keys (which is also laggy). I have tried to access the additional mouse options via Settings, but it comes up with an error message saying "Windows can't access the specified device, path or file".Please help!

I have removed the original Win10 and reinstalled from scratch Win8.1 Pro on my Dell xps 13 9350. I have downloaded all the possible drivers from the official "Dell driver download" page and run them all in the order suggested. Also the BIOS is updated. However, there are still several devices not recognized: 1. There is no Win8.1 driver for the trackpad. The one of Win10 is not compatible with Win8.1, so the trackpad is currently recognized in the device manager as PS/2-compatible. Moral: the scroll function does NOT work!! 2. Under "other devices" I get two "PCI data acquisition and signal processing controller" icons and one "unknown device" flagging "there are no compatible drivers for this device" 3. After installing the latest drivers (February updates -not sure which one in particular created the problem) I now get also under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" and icon with "Standard SATA AHCI Controller" flagging "this device cannot start. (Code 10)" While I can live with 2. and 3., the issue 1. with the trackpad is VERY annoying, and it would be great if Dell would provide a driver for it (btw., this model is now more than 3 months on the market). PS: the February update seems has fixed part of the problems with the WiFi and with mouse. I could solve them temporarily in January by installing other drivers of another model (Dell xps 15 9550), in particular these two: Communications_Driver_G1... Read more

A:Dell xps 13 9350 downgrade windows 8.1, trackpad not working and other issues.

Hope this helps for items 1 and 2, not sure about item 3...
For item 1, have you tried using the Windows 7 touchpad driver?  Download link below.  When you run the downloaded Dell Update Package, choose Extract (not Install), and create a folder to extract the files.  Then right click Setup.exe, choose Properties, then click the Compatibility tab, and then check the Compatibility box and choose Windows 7.  This should allow the driver to install successfully.
For item 2, you'll need to install the Serial I/O driver, which isn't listed for Windows 8.1, but you can find it in the Dell Driver Pack for Windows 8.1, link below also.  You'll need something like 7zip to extract the CAB file, but you'll find the driver buried in there.  Once you have the driver pack extracted to a folder, you can go into Device Manager, then right click the PCI Data Acquisition device, then choose Update Driver. Then choose Browse, and point it to the extracted folder and make sure include subfolders is checked.  The driver should then install.

So I recently got my T460s as a work machine and I love the device, except for the touchpad experience. Compared to my personal device, a Surface Pro 4, I am left very disappointed in this regard. Using two fingers to scroll is a nightmare. It often freezes mid-scroll, and immediately after scrolling the cursor would reappear, jump somewhere, and a click would be performed. Sometimes, this click would highlight text on the webpage, other times, this click would click on a favorite in the favorites bar and force me into another site. It just isnt a smooth scrolling experience. Something is definitely wrong here, and I just hope its not a hardware issue. I am running Windows 10, and I have all my drivers up-to-date, including the Synaptics driver. I tried going into the Synaptics settings and disabling the touchpoint like some have suggested, didnt work. I tried rebooting, didnt work. I tried disabling two-finger scrolling, rebooting, then re-enabling it, didnt work. I tried uninstalling the driver and re-installing it, didnt work. I dont know what else do to. Has anyone had any luck with this? UPDATE: I've isolated the issue to it happening only in Windows 10/Modern UI apps, including the Microsoft Edge browser. The mouse cursor disappears in these apps when scrolling and jumps around after scrolling has stopped. But this isnt the case in say File Explorer, Google Chrome, or Microsoft Word.

Hello,My trackpad hasn't been behaving as expected since upgrading to Windows 10. Windows 10 trackpad gestures and two-finger scrolling don't work consistently. Occassionally they work at startup but then stop working fairly quickly. Additionally, sometimes the trackpad becomes completely unresponsive for a few seconds.I've tried installing multiple versions of the trackpad driver from both Lenovo and the generic Synaptics driver without success. I currently have "Lenovo Pointing Device - v19.0.17.5 07Aug15" installed on a clean install of Windows 10. It seems like a driver issue as the trackpad works as expected in Linux Mint 17.2. I'd appreciate any assistance as my laptop is currently almost unusable.

We would suggest to uninstall and then reinstall the touchpad drivers from our support.euro.dell.com--enter tag#--submit--choose drivers and downloads--select the operating system--install the driver from the list.
If its still the same, please check in safemode on the functionality.
Also if the issue started recently, you can try doing a system restore and observe.

Hello!  I bought this device just yesterday evening, and in about 12 hours usage I have had this problem about 3 times: 1) The trackpad slows down2) Next, it'll apparently start detecting the wrong gestures, like multifingered gestures when I use only one finger, or the inverse, or else it starts clicking when I'm not putting on much pressure, etc.3) Finally - and this is the worst part - the trackpad stops detecting pressure in about 60% of it's central area...4) I restart the system and everything is perfect again for a while. What should I do? Should I return the product? I already searched for updates in the software, but everything was fine and up to date. Thanks for your time!

I use a y50-70,  model 20378, I'm running Windows 10 and all my drivers are up-to-date (I have installed the most recent trackpad drivers through the Windows 10 auto-detect drivers feature, and I have installed them directly from the Lenovo website). Sometimes, when I open up the computer, the trackpad is disabled without explanation. When I go to Mouse settings I receive this notification "Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver. If you have installed another PS/2 Pointing Device Driver please uninstall the Synaptics driver by clicking on the Yes button. You then need to reinstall your pointing device driver for your external device again. Do you want to uninstall the Synpatics driver now?"I have done this several times, and the fix is never permanent. I click yes to have the Synpatics driver uninstalled, then I remove and reinsert my USB mouse (logitech M545) and wait for that driver to be reinstalled. I then reinstall my the Synaptics driver and restart my computer. Everything works fine. However, the next time I put my computer to sleep/standby/power off, I have to go through this song-and-dance again if I want my trackpad to work. This has happened several times. My trackpad only works if the driver has just been installed, and the computer just restarted. If I turn off, then turn on the computer, WITHOUT installing the trackpad driver, the trackpad doesn't work.

I have been facing this problem since the first week of acquiring it and to me it seems like a hardware issue. The track pad pops out from right bottom corner on every left click. Hey guys, I've been having issues with the Lenovo T460s laptop model in my office environment. We have other models of Lenovo (T440s) which work just fine, but when roaming with the T460s between wireless access points, the laptop won't reassociate with the new access point and just becomes unable to connect to wifi altogether. This results in having to disconnect from the access point and then connect again for it to be able to work.I've tried the following:1. Updating the wifi drivers to the latest firmware2. Downgrading the wifi drivers to the oldest firmware3. Changing the settings in the power saving options to max performance even when unplugged4. Turning off bluetooth5. Deleting all the wifi connections and readding them6. Trying all of the "roaming aggressiveness" options on the driver properties (have stuck with medium for now, since it's what's used on the other lenovo models) None of this has given me any luck, has anyone here had the same issue and managed to resolve it? It's pretty frustrating to say the least . Help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Although I have discussed TouchPad issues for my T460s in other topics and Lenovo Team had send us updated drivers beside the updates received on "System Update" app, I'm still finding the below list of problems: (I'm really wondering why is this happening for only this piece from Siynaptics. Something is really going wrong with it) 1- You cannot disable ThinkPad from Lenovo Power Gauge. The only way to disable it to go: Mouse Properties-> ThinkPad. Then, Uncheck "Enable TouchPad"2- I can't use bottom button of TouchPad to act as a right button of mouse. Although it is enabled in Mouse Properties-> ThinkPad3- The three-finger gesture is completely not functional on TouchPad. Although it is enabled in Mouse Properties-> ThinkPad->Settings->Gestures On top of that, some times the mouse again goes crzay and slowly moving or stuck. I click always the left button of TouchPad to restore it. Hope this time someone can send a profound driver updates. Thanks.

I just received the XPS 13 9360 today and already the trackpad is irking me. I have tried a couple of laptops now, and this is my last hope before going back to a MacBook Pro. My usual has been OSX for my laptop and Windows for my Desktop. I was trying to do something different since the last two MBPs have been junk, but now I am beginning to reevaluate my opinion of the latest Macs
Hopefully you all can help me :)

Issues:
I am accidentally moving the mouse while typing, the cause is clear and I can live with that. The issues I am having are with the gestures.
Examples:
while two finger scrolling, sometimes it will zoom in or out to a point where the window is just a little square
while two finger scrolling, sometimes it will click
edit: it is starting to lock up on me

When logging into the forum, where a username already saved. JKTTRA... the saved password was mine though. I am toying with the idea that this computer is preowned
I am also having an issue with the scroll speed. It is so slow. Anyone familiar with Macs trackpad scrolling, I want to be scroll with that kind of speed in any program. (firefox, chrome, edge, etc). hate going through google results 2 links per swipe.

A:XPS 13 9360 trackpad issues

All I might bring up is different utilities may interpret the gestures in different ways.  In some utilities, such as a weather map, I may be able to scroll he map around.  In others the same gesture will zoom.\
I have not as yet done this, but make sure you are aware of the normal gestures and what they should do and then compare that to what might be happening in a particular situation.  You might also look at adjusting the touch sensitivity.

After upgrading the BIOS, I am having an issue with my battery. I finally got around to troubleshooting an outstanding issue with my RAM (It was maxing out at 10 of my 20gb of RAM), I found that updating my BIOS resolved the issue. I purchased the laptop in May 2016, and this was the first time I had updated my BIOS. I used Lenovo Solution Center / Vantage to run the updates. I updated my BIOS to N1CET68W (6/20/18). While troubleshooting I ran battery report, and I don't think it is a coincidence that the date I updated the BIOS on is also the date at which one of my batteries stopped working - Attached with a line drawn for when I updated the BIOS. My battery now caps out at 62%. Battery 1: 68% and charging. Battery 2: 0%. Battery 2 will not charge any more. Battery 1: 00HW022, Sanyo. Design Capacity: 23510 mWh, full charge capacity: 17840mWh (Acceptable degradation for 2 year old battery)Battery 2: 01AV406, SMP. Design Capacity: 26060 mWh, full charge capacity: 1770mWh (Significant drop-off once BIOS updated). I have already performed laptop surgery and made sure both batteries are connected. Unplugged both of them, and hard reset my laptop (holding power button for ~2 minutes with batteries out). I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, and then updating them. Windows 10 x64.

Hi all,

I am having intermittent trackpad issues on Windows 7 with my Dell XPS L321x ultrabook with the trackpad freezing mid-use or not being responsive after turning on the laptop (requiring multiple reboots to resolve).

The freezing is sporadic which makes me think that it is a possible driver issue - I'm using a slightly older version of the trackpad drivers which seem to make the problem occur slightly less frequently compared to the most up-to-date ones.

Can anyone advise how I might identify the exact problem and correct it?

Thanks

I have a weird issue with one of my 4th gen X1 Carbons, model 20FC-S2S600 ... Whenever I rest my palm on the palmrest to type, the mouse moves unexpectedly. It usually gravitates toward the bottom left side of the screen. I am well aware that the trackpad might inadvertantly get touched while typing, however, nothing is touching the trackpad when this happens. I was able to reproduce the issue my taking my index finger and pressing down firmly on the right side of the palmrest between the fingerprint reader and trackpad. My finger was near the touchpad but absolutely not touching it. To reiterate, this is not an issue of inadvertetly touching the trackpad while typing. The mouse moves when pressure is applied to the right side of the palmrest between the trackpad and fingerprint reader. Has anyone else expreienced this issue?

Bought a new x360 yesterday afternoon.  $950.  Twice now on startup before the password screen where the date and time is displayed the screen acted erratically, jumping up and down for several seconds before the password screen showed.  When it does this the trackpad doesnt work at all after startup and everything keeps popping up like there is something clicking everything on my computer.  My hands arent anywhere near the trackpad and everything keeps popping up.  I hate to spend hundreds of hours getting all my data and programs transferred from my old HP just to have to return this.  Not sure what to do, thinking of returning it.

So I got this PC (V592G) back this summer, and it's been working (mostly) except for a few issues I'm pretty sure that are Win 10 related. First, I get a short term flickering on my screen when a quick brightness changes. Its only lasts for a few seconds and is just a slight rapid changing in brightness - reminds me of a flourescent light warming up. Don't know if it's a driver thing (I've tried different Intel GFX drivers, some are better, but it never goes away.). It doesn't seem to happen if I force my Nvidia chip, so I doubt its a problem with the LCD. Second, how do I make the trackpad not use the Windows default setting. I've installed the synaptics drivers, but I never get any options to make changes. Going into the advanced options in the mouse setting just shows the trackpad as a basic HID mouse, and I don't get any of the screens to change the Synaptic options (scroll area, etc) like I do on my old MSi running Win 7. Personally I'd rather have a scroll region over 2 finger. Even when I check the option to disble the trackpad when a mouse is plugged in, the trackpad still works Finally, how the heck do you get the num lock to permanently stay on!!. I've done the reg edit trick and it does work, except if the computer enters sleep mode. Then it will turn itself off, even though it will retain state during a reboot or power down. Kinda sad to have to disable sleep mode just to keep my num lock working Are there going to be any driver updates in the ... Read more

Hey everyone, There's no winning for me lately.  I had a 2nd gen X1 Carbon and due to performance related issues, I picked up a T460S yesterday.  Old thread - https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-Super-Slow-Looking-for-an-upgrade/m... This machine definitely performs well, but I'm now running in to a few seperate issues.  #2 is the big one, but I want to throw #1 in here 1. When I reboot the machine or wake it up from sleep mode, it takes a good minutes to boot up (frozen at the Lenovo splash screen).  My X1 boots in seconds. Anyone know why this would be? 2. Screen/Display issues - Here is the biggest issue.  The screen is extremely blurry/yellowish and not crystal clear and white.  Anything with a white background appears off white.  Anything silver (for eg, the default layout for Outlook 2010) appears as dark grey.  My eyes literally bleed when I try to read emails and go through things due to the blurry issues and nothing appearing clear.  I never noticed these issues when buying the laptop bc no programs were installed and everything appeared to look normal, until I started installing all of my apps and began noticing these issues and sitting it next to my X1.  My X1 carbon did not have these issues.  I also run a T440 at work and this machine is also crystal clear, just like my X1 Carbon.  I run Win 7 on the T440 and Win 10 Pro on the X1 (same OS as the T460S... Hello All,Hoping to find a solution to a VERY annoying issue. When I click the left mouse button UNDER the trackpad, it clicks once when I press it down, and once when I let the button back up. So clicking it once (up and down), effectively double-clicks. I have tried resetting trackpad to default and downloading latest drivers. Neither has fixed the issue. I first noticed the problem try to fold and unfold code in Visual Studio. I click the + box and it will expand then immediately collapse again cause it is being clicked again. Same issue with closing tabs in Chrome. I close the far left tab and it closes that tab and the next tab that fills the space. Very annoying. I otherwise love this machine but this problem is driving me crazy. Thankful for any help!-Mike

Hello everyone! I have an Acer Aspire V3-572PG that is less than a year old. I have an occasional issue with the trackpad that I?m wondering about. I?ve tried to read a bit about issues people have had with the trackpad on this laptop, but I?m unclear on what exactly the problem (and solution) is, if anything.   Every so often in the middle of use ? randomly and not very frequently ? the trackpad will change the way it responds. Sometimes these issues begin individually, sometimes all at once: - tap-to-click behaves as if I?m holding down the mouse button (e.g, if I tap and then move the cursor, it will highlight text, instead of just clicking) or stops working altogether- to move the cursor I must use two fingers instead of one- scrolling seems to stop working- right-click is malfunctioning also When this happens, I have to restart my machine and then the trackpad works as usual. The driver says it?s up to date, and nothing in particular seems to trigger this issue when it occurs ? the computer sometimes seems to slow briefly and then goes back to normal, but sometimes it's completely normal and it just happens. Either way the trackpad is messed up until I restart. Is this what anyone else experiences? Is there a fix? Software or hardware? Any advice would be appreciated.

A:Trackpad issues (Acer Aspire V3-572PG)

It sounds like the left and/or right button is sticking. Turn it over, shake it,wrap a towel around your hand and lightly bump it at the trackpat, blow it out with a can of air.
