Hi guys,
So recently my computer went nuts.  The title pretty much says it all, but it expand a bit.  Basically IE and Word both crash and Chrome will open, but when I try to download something it just stays in the "starting..." state and the download never begins.  I also tried to install HijackThis to get those logs and it will not install.  It keep saying it "must be installed on a local hard drive"  when the destination is a local hard drive.  Also I tried to run some anti-malware, MalwareBytes will install but won't open, Spybot installed but says "The application was unable to install correctly (0xc0000005)"  Below is the dds.txt and attached is the attach.txt.  Thank you in advance for any help.

Hello lindaga35You may also need to tirn off your AV and try again if this fails.1. Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware using Add/Remove programs in the control panel.2. Restart your computer (very important).3. Download and run this utility. Mbam clean4. It will ask to restart your computer (please allow it to).5. After the computer restarts, install the latest version from here. http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.phpNote: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent.Note: If using Free version, ignore the part about putting in your license key and activating.Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray and run a Quick Scan and post that log.

Wow... Where to start?

Recently, Firefox became a crash machine with constant crashes. Sometimes simply moving from page to page, sometimes locking up when nothing is happening. I prefer Firefox, but the crashes became so bad, I started using IE 8 and guess what? That browser will only stay up moments if it comes up at all. Finally, I went to Chrome and same deal there; it crashes suddenly upon start up on moments after. Firefox seem to be the most stable, but you never know when it's going to crash or freeze up.

On top of these issues, I've always used Malware Bytes anti-malware, but when the above issues began, it quit finding anything. Furthermore, I was running Adaware and it always found a cookie or two. When I began using the trial version ESET Node 32 anti-virus V4.0, I had to uninstall Adaware. Now when I try to re-install Adaware, the file is corrupted. Also, now that my trial is up for ESET, I have tried to download AVG and it errors during the installation process.

Sounds like I've got a good one...

Suggestions greatly appreciated!

I'm having some problems with a bunch of things (I'm running XP):

-Browsers randomly redirected.
-Virus scans crashing midway through.
-Tried and unable to reinstall or fix Antivir or Zonealarm (black screen popping up and stalling on install).

I wasn't able to go through the Pandaactive Scan - there were errors with the website when I tried to login. Also with the Windows update page (error 0x8007008). I did install Spyware Blaster, though.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Hi,

Was wondering whether you could help - Super anti-malware gets stuck when it gets to a particular folder during scan (C:WINDOWS\$hf_mig$\KB980195\update...)

I tried to scan with Malwarebytes anti-malware and the same happened when it reached that folder. I'm guessing it's too important to just delete. Any advice, pls?

I've backed up what I want from my docs and downloaded hijackthis.

Hi.

My windows explorer crashes and restarts every time I perform some action (e.g., opening a file, moving a file, saving a file). I get the standard "windows explorer encountered a problem and needs to shut down; sorry for the inconvenience" message. In addition, trying to attach a file (mostly word documents) crashes the web browser - IE and firefox simply close, chrome gives an error message "plug-in crash - shockwave flash" and becomes unresponsive.

I very much appreciate your help.

Thanks for listening, as my user name reflects I am now into stuff I'm ignorant about.

History.

Had this computer a little over a year, I7 with 16gb of memory, windows 7 ultimate. etc

About a month ago, started seeing BSOD's. The BSOD would normally reflect "Memory Management" as the cause. Then the browsers started crashing, tried chrome, firefox and IE. Have removed and re installed all of them. I continue to received "windows has recovered" screens.

Was reading this thread, attempted the memory test via CD, it ran for several hours (actually alowed it to run all night. When I went to bed it was on test 8, the errors were moving from 0 to 32767. I got up this morning, same numbers, same test #. Seemed like it was stuck on that run even though the error numbers were still changing.

I have down loaded and ran who crashed. It's conclusion is :

If Memtest86+ is showing up errors, then there are hardware issues present. It's just discerning what hardware is bad. Initial suspect obviously is memory, but the unusual case makes it think it's some logic error like some CPU failure or something. It's also possible that when burning it to CD that the Memtest itself got corrupted somehow (i.e. bad burn).

16 GB is a lot of memory on a consumer motherboard. There is the possibility that while your motherboard can handle 16GB of memory, that 16GB of the actual memory model that you're using may not be supported. Certain configurations of memory can have problematic issues. So while the memory sticks themselves may not be bad, the actual 16GB setup of them may break things.

Have you tested system stability with reduced amount of RAM, like 1/2 sticks of RAM, as well as running Memtest on a couple passes for each separate stick?

I started to suspect something was off when my browser became increasingly sluggish. I've noticed the URL "raresearchsystem.com" as a redirect url when I click any google search results. I immediately attempted to run malwarebytes only to have the program close while it was scanning. Trying to run it again yields error "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.". I tried renaming the .exe but was not allowed. I reinstalled malwarebytes under a different name and was able to run it but again, the program closed during scan. I tried all applicable troubleshooting on the malwarebytes forum to try and get the program to run but with the same results.

I attempted to run avast! but it is immediately disabled.

I was unable to scan with gmer as it too was closed when I begun the scan.

I don't know whether I have a malware problem, or a hard-drive-in-death-throes problem, or what. But I figured it was best to start here, so if it's not a virus I can go over to the XP forum with that ruled out.

Over the past few months my desktop has been steadily driving me nuts. First it began giving me BSODs at random intervals, anything from a day to a month apart. (Currently, about once every three weeks.) The most common error is 0x0000008E, but I've also had 0x00000019, 0x00000024, 0x1000000A, 0x0000004E (PFN_LIST_CORRUPT), 0x0000007F, 0x0000000A (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL), and 0x00000050 (PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA). Usually it crashes at startup, but it has taken as much as twenty minutes. I've tried defragging the hard drive, using a registry cleaner, and replacing Sygate firewall (see below) but nothing appears to have worked.

Then Sygate starting occasionally crashing while I was online. I replaced it with PC Tools free firewall, which hasn't had any problems. (Yet...)

Somewhere in the last several months (hard to say whether it was before or after Sygate and the BSODs, it seems to have been creeping up for a while) Firefox developed an increasing tendency to hang. It reached the point where it was basically non-functional for a good quarter hour after connecting. During that time doing anything - maximising or minimising windows, accessing the start menu - took forever. Then Firefox started crashing - constantly. I worked my way through the official trou... Hello everyone. I have been dealing with a very annoying problem with our family computer for several months now. I am running Windows XP Home SP3 Version 2002 on a Dell Dimension 8400 Pentium 4 CPU 3.2 GHz, 3 GB ram.

Firefox crashes at times, when browsing certain websites, oftentimes when I am typing in yahoo mail. The browser either just hangs with an hourglass or crashes by disappearing.

Sometimes when yahoo mail is loading, there is a flash plugin crash notification, sometimes the browser just crashes. However the crashes occur in Firefox safe mode as well (with the plugins disabled). Also we commonly have crashes when we paste text (to MS Word or a web browser) after a copy command, but not always. I have similar problems with IE. We have Net Nanny installed but we have disabled it and the crashes happen just the same. I tried flashing (upgrading) the BIOS from the Dell support site to A09. I have scanned with Macafee Internet Security Suite as provided by Verizon, have scanned with Trend Micro free scan, as well as Norton PC Checkup. No Malware found. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox. I have defragmented the boot disk. Other profiles on the computer exhibit similar behavior.

At times we get an incomplete boot and the computer hangs with a non-functioning desktop ? I can see the desktop icons, but there's no cursor and no control ? have to power down. Sometimes the computer hangs prior to the "windows is starting up" XP scr... Read more

Hi guys,

I just joined the forums today.

My issue has to do with basically every internet browser I have and Nvidia Geforce Experience.  Whenever I open chrome and opera, both of them crash instantly.  Additionally, whenever I open firefox and edge and go to certain pages such as get.adobe.com or opera.com/download, the websites crash.  On IE, it does basically the same thing; the only difference is that I go to the webpage it generally crashes on and it says IE stopped responding, but IE is still loading the webpages and I can still add a new tab!  Also, after getting an alert yesterday from Geforce Experience that a new video card driver was available, I clicked on the alert, only to have a window pop up saying that it crashed.  I tried to open Geforce Experience again.  Crashed again.

After trying to use a system restore point from October 18, 2016 (before I had this issue) I still had this problem.  A Microsoft support rep said that it is most likely a virus.  I did have trend micro officescan installed at the time, however, but i'm guessing some viruses can get past your security.

The only change I can remember is installing MSI Afterburner.  I may have downloaded a thing or two, but only used trusted sites to download from (Cnet, Opera, sourceforge).

As a last resort, I tried to used Darik's Boot and Nuke using a USB drive that I used Universal USB Installer with to put the DBAN iso on there... Read more

Hello, I'm a longtime computer illiterate, first-time help forum poster.

For the past day, my Firefox browser has been repeatedly crashing. It seems to crash whenever I go to any Web site except for a simple few like gmail. In fact, this site has already crashed several times while trying to get this message out.

It started a couple of days ago when I found that if I clicked a google search result, my browser redirected to some unrelated site. I ran McAfee and IObit Security, found some infected files, and removed them, but the problem persisted. So yesterday I downloaded Ad-Aware and ran it. Again, some infected files emerged and were removed. The redirection problem went away, but instead Firefox simply began crashing. I tried Opera and Internet Explorer, and they both have the same problem. I updated Firefox and got the latest Windows security updates (I'm running Vista). Then I downloaded and ran MBAM and Super Antispyware. Once again, they came up with infected files, which I removed. But the problem has not gone away.

Right now, one of two problems usually occur when I open my browser and go to almost any site: either firefox simply crashes or it begins opening multiple new tabs and windows and then promptly crashes.

Any ideas? I'd greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks,
soph

these are the instructions I followed:Uninstall itclick on this link ? and then select run.http://www.malwarebytes.org/affiliates/2...INSTALL IT TO YOUR DESKTOP, update it, then run a full scan and remove everything it finds.some viruses will try to disable it so if malwarebytes will not start up then go into the folder it is in and rename the mbam file to XXX then double click on the file you just renamed to start it up.after you have used malwarebytes then do this on-line scan.to make sure you have nothing else hiding away.http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.htmlpreferably in safe mode with networking.it's important you install it on your desktop so you can easily get into the folder and change the name of the mbam file.and viruses do not always look on the desktop for it.OR you can try the on-line scan first. This seemed to have helped but I still can't run Malware bytes and my computer redirects websites I try to get into sometimes. Indeed, things are a bit of a mess at present. Like I said, my MSN browser seems largely unaffected (which leads me to believe it's spyware or malware) MSN is affected in two main ways : Some shopping websites don't do anything when I hit the "next page" buttons. (Has ActiveX been partially disabled?) Also, when I attempt to download patches or any new freeware, I hit the "Download Now" button, I'm sent to the next page, which usually says "Thanks for downloading [whatever]" but no download has occurred.
IE does not "crash" until I attempt to open my favorites. If I simply click on an article on my homepage, everything continues normally. Interestingly enough, after I get the crash message in IE, I can close the message, and another window pops up stating that there is an error and IE will now close. There is an "OK" button on this second window. Until I click "OK," IE doesn't close and functions more or less normally with the same "quirks that are occurring in MSN.
This all began about three days ago. In the few days that preceded this change in my computer's behavior, 3 things of significance happened. In order, they are:
First, upon start-up (but not EVERY time), I began to receive a message stating that a certain webpage couldn't be opened. Sometimes the name is different, but it's always something inappropriate. I'm sure it's just spyware. I thought I'd eliminated it... Read more

Hi,
Before Christmas I started getting browser and sometimes PC crashes. At first it seemed to be browser related. But the PC would also crash when idle. I tried disabling add- ons in Firefox and opening in safe mode. Tried using Chrome but it would crash with the message that Flash had malfunctioned. Then I started getting Stop messages and BSODs. (I hadn't installed and new hardware and, I don't think, installed any new big programs except for updates to existing ones.)
I emailed a few of the mini dump files to a friend. He said they didn't specify which drivers were causing the problem. But it might be something to do with the video or the network card. I rolled back drivers. No change. I updated drivers and uninstalled lots of programs. For a month everything seemed stable. Then the BSODs started to return. Infrequently at first but then more regularily. Sorry the story is a bit confused but it is difficult to remember every detail of what happened and the order I did things in.
The event viewer says that they are either error 1003 or 1001. Would someone be able to look at the recent minidump files and see if they specify any particular drivers? Or suggest any other steps I can take to cure the problem?
Thanks, John

Hi, I've got a strange problem. After some time on the interent the other day I clicked on a link to a site that gave me one of those faux "Microsoft Anivirus" pop-ups and closed it. I ATF Cleaned my computer and then ran Spyware Doctor and Malware Bytes to make sure I was clean. Spyware Doctor found nothing and Malwarebytes found 3 infections under Microsoft Antivirus. I went to remove and was prompted to reset and when the computer went on to start windows again I got a blue screen and this message.:A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps: Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmenation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. When I do a virus scan with both my purchased mcafee software and Malwarebytes, during the scan of my C: Drive, my computer “beeps” twice during the scan. I do not get any prompts of what happened, it just beeps. Are there a couple of files the virus scan doesn’t like? Is there a log from these virus software packages that I can look at to see what it beeped at, or show me what happened. I also get a file with the word “Chinese” on it, is this a part of windows 7, or should I be concerned? I never had the system beep at me before during virus scans. The scans show that there are no virus’s present.
Thanks for any help in this matter, I'm very concerned about this.

Hello Bleeping computer,
This is my first post as I can normally get the help I need from reading existing threads here.

A colleagues son was having trouble with his Laptop internet browser not working even though he was connected to the internet. I ran malware bytes in safe mode and it returned me 1246 results, which I quarantined. Upon rebooting it's riddled with "Bad image errors". Trying to run anything on it delivers these errors.
I read previous threads here and ran Farbar Recovery.

I have edited the below result replacing the computer owners name with "REDACTED" due to them being a minor and not wanting to plaster their name over the internet.
If you guys need the original unedited file I will send it in a personal message.

I've ran scf/scannow and it seemed to verify everything without making any changes.

Any assistance you can offer would be greatly appreciated. In the mean time, I am giving the kid a talk about malware and how to avoid getting into this situation.

Thank you in advance.

I do not know if I am infected or it is just some temp files from malware bytes as i was running a malware bytes scan while this happened. The file name of the file that Norton keeps deleting is: 0000000-88671ffb and it was in the temp folder of Windows. Also before this happened I got a random pop up saying stuff from my desktop was being deleted. When I got this pop up I immediately shut down my computer and when I started it back up I started the malware bytes scan during which Norton detected the thing.
So, am I infected or is it just one of the many false positives that Norton has?

My vista 64 Gateway pc has started to give me random BSOD's when putting pc to sleep or waking from sleep. But then it could not run any web browsers or email programs, they would not launch.  If I logged in from a different administrator account, then I could surf the web but it was not entirely stable.  I rand full scans with KASPERSKY Rescue Disk 10 from a USB (only found like old emails with trojan scripts but nothing major)  an also Norton 360 Recovery USB (hanged and crashed midway before completion)

I rebooted after this and reinstalled Norton 360 because it was disabled somehow from my regular windows account. I could not start it up and neither would Malware Bytes both would not run.  It was very difficult but I had to attempt numerous times in different ways eventually resorting to a free web proxy site to access the antivirus download pages.  The download would crash the browser before completion.  Finally I was able to complete the download and reinstall norton 360.  I also reinstalled Malware Bytes and enabled trial of full premium version, ran a full scan, it found nothing.

I also noticed that whenever I log in and start using the web, my memory and CPU usage would go high until BSOD but could not determine the cause. The apps listed in Taskmanager do not consume that amount of RAM (8gb)..

I googled microsoft windows 7 or windows 10 iso download.  The browser would not load any microsoft win... Read more

I also want to mention. I ran HJT from my second windows user account as the primary account having troubles with browser and web.  Should I run HJT on the more problematic User Account and then post the report here?

I just ran the tool called AdwCleaner on the alternatate user account and it found a few things and I chose "clean all" at the end.  I attached the report to this reply if that helps?

Hello,

For the past few months Firefox as well as my whole system in general has been running slower then usual. I'm also noticing a drastic performance deceleration in games from a fresh install to now.

Firefox tends to crash after 20 or so minutes of usage and when I look in the task manager it's using around 200 mbs of ram and 99 CPU. I've also noticed clicking on links after searching in Google doesn't bring up a result.

Here is a fresh Hijack This log for more information.

Hi,

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or here or here.
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds file to run the tool.
When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
DDS.txt

Other sites will either not load or fail to completely load.

I searched on the podmena.com and found a reference to malware that uses remote file instruction and is often undetected by virus/spyware/malware programs.

I have scanned through with a quick scan with Malwarebytes 3 times and the same 9 items are not removed even after rebooting.

Windows XP SP2 on a Dell desktop. Every time I try to run a Malwarebytes scan the scan stops and the program crashes somewhere between Windows/System32/vdmredir.dll and Windows/System32/ven2232.olb less than 5 minutes into the scan. It seems to have found at least 2 instances of malware by then, but of course I don't know what they are since the program never completes.

I have tried deleting and reloading the program, changing the name of the program, running it in safe mode, and using rkill before I run it, but the same thing keeps happening over and over.

With all the problems with SP2 flooding in from everywhere, I would suggest starting there. Get SP2 off the system.
This link will help you get that accomplished.

Post back if that don't fix the problem.

Hi Guys,

I think my laptop got infected with a strong virus. When I was opening web browser, it was redirecting to different sites. I started Macfee scan and then later ran malicious software removal tool.
Suddenly my Blue screen appeared. From then on I am not able to login in normal mode. Everytime I reboot, Blue screen appears.

Even reboot in safemode with Networking also gives Blue Screen.

I am able to reboot in safe mode alone.

My antivirus Macfee also not starting. everytime I click on Turn on , it gets turned off.
I downloaded malwarebytes from safe laptop and tried running. When I start running scan for memory objects, my scan crashes and closes.
When I scan other places like registry, shared files etc. malwarebytes works.

I download IO bit malware removal. even that crashes when I run memory
objects scan. Then when I try to open the IObit malware again I get error

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item"

Can you guys pls help me.

Hi everybody, how are you?  I am remotely fixed a badly infected desktop but now it often crashes after I start a SFC scan.  Any suggestions?  I did see an error once corresponding to a BSOD but I'm not sure to which.  Thanks!!!

So, I've got Zone Alarm Anti Virus (ZA Pro Suite). When I run AV, my PC crashes and I get a BSOD, which vaires.

I've tried scanning with GRI Softs free AVG, Online Norton Scanner, and they all crash my pc and bring up the BSOD.

I'm running an external SATA hard drive, as my base HD, which hasn't had any problems for over 2 years.

System is winXP.

Your comments, suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks!

A:Computer Crashes Whenever Try To Run A Scan

Hello seranade123 Welcome to Bleeping Computer! Sorry about the delay. We're all volunteers here, and it's been very busy. If you still need help, please post a new HijackThis log to make sure nothing has changed. Before posting the log, please make sure you follow all the steps found in this topic: Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log <--link And I'll be happy to take a look at it for you. I also need to see a different type of log from Hijackthis: Run Hijackthis.Click on "Open the Misc Tools section".Next click on "Open uninstall manager".Press the button 'save list'. It will open a Notepad file.Place the content of that file here in your next reply. Thanks, for your patience.

I am running into crashes during the ‘scan file system’ segment of Malwarebytes on a Dell laptop, Windows 7, 64 bit system. I am not exactly a novice but definitely not an expert on computers. And maybe not a decent intermediate.

I conduct business on this computer and transact a great deal of business by email from individuals (not companies) and am always concerned about opening email including attachments, but have to do it to conduct my business. I do not open any suspicious or spam email, I simply purge it.

I have not loaded any new programs other than tax software last January. I attempted to install Microsoft updates today and that failed completely, which alerted me to a problem. Then I decided to run Malwarebytes.

When I started Malwarebytes it ran ok although it was taking more time than usual. During the ‘scan file system’ segment it identified 4 issues which I opened before it had completed the scan to see what they were. All 4 were instances of the same Trojan (did not write it down). I allowed the scan to continue until finally it crashed. I had to reboot, used the ‘normal’ boot sequence, and ran Malwarebytes again. Same problem occurred but this time it crashed before identifying any malware.

I rebooted normally again so I could continue to do work but there is a lot of delay time between clicking on something and getting it to open. I need help to get rid of the malware and restore Malwarebytes to... Read more

A:Malwarebytes crashes during scan

Update information: While working on my computer after posting on bleeping computer malwarebytes ran in the background and successfully completed. It identified the 4 Trojans and I had them deleted. I then reran malwarebytes and it successfully completed without picking up anything new. Hopefully this resolves my issue. I will keep this topic open for a few days and if there are no new or recurring problems I will close it.

Are there any suggestions for software that will effectively scan emails and their attachments. Due to the nature of my work I suspect this as the mechanism by which I get malware infections.
