Q: Quicken Basic

I was unsure where to put this but we're having problems with Quicken Basic 2000. it was unable to open and yet we've used it before, so we uninstalled it and then reinstalled an older version...so we're awating that right for the comp. to restart
What could the problem be?

Preferred Solution: Quicken Basic

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have several accounts set up in Quicken. Today when I click the reconcile button and try to enter dollar amounts in the charges, payments, and ending balance blanks I get the error message "Please enter a valid amount." I have tried entering every way I could think of but keep getting the same message. I have never had this problem before. Thank you for your replies

Hi
I am using Quicken Basic 2000 (UK)
I think that my QDATA files have become corrupted.
If I try and enter any new names in any field it shows n/a.
Unable to open any new accounts. You go through the set up
but its not there when you finish. Would have contacted
the support in the UK but they charge to answer any questions.
I thought that this was out of order as I was wanting to upgrade
to the new product and was wanting to know if the corrupted
QDATA file would cause the same problems in the new software.
In the USA your have quicken 2001, 2002-2004 etc, here in the
UK they have only one product Quicken XG. It's very, very expensive 50+. Any support for Quicken costs about $20 minimum per call, even if the product is over three years old. The software provider has put me in a catch 22 situation. I hope that you could provide me with the answer. I have reloaded the program without any results. Or should I go to another product. The only other product is Microsoft Money and I believe that Microsoft now owns Intuit.

A:Quicken 2000 Basic

I would check out this troubleshooting guide:

Quicken 2000 Advanced Troubleshooting for Data File Damage, and the other articles here.

If that does not work, you would need to back up your QDATA file (even if you suspect it's corrupted), uninstall Quicken, then reinstall the program.

I hope this helps!

P.S. For another accounting program that's also available in the UK, Simply Accounting. PC World magazine gave a good review of this program. The software maker web site for the UK is www.simplyaccounting.com/uk/default.asp.

I have been using Quicken 2000 since 2000 without any
problems. Now I have one. Unable to create any new accounts.
You go throught the create new account process and nothing is
there when you have finished. Another problem is, if you enter
a payee or memo field with fresh names, the program puts in n/a. I think that my QDATA file is corrupt. Would like to upgrade to
Quicken XG but worried, that if it is a corrupt file problem, I would have the same problem after the upgrade. It appears that in the
UK you have very limited support.

Have you tried reinstalling Quicken? There may be something corrupted in the program itself. Welcome to the Tech Guys Forum, by the way.

OK, I'm clueless. I got the free copy of Quicken Basic 2002 and I'm trying to back up on 3.5 floppy. (I have an IBM compatible PC using windows 98. With a regular ole floppy disk drive.) My file has grown to more than 1.44MB and Quicken is supposed to signal to use a second disk. But it doesn't. What I get is a message "Disk is full (yes I know that), if this is a compressed disk, use an uncompressed disk. Back up NOT complete."
The disks that I'm using are Fugi MF2HD, formatted, double sided high density, 135TPI/80 tracks. I don't know what any of that means. Can you tell me if I need to buy different disks? If I need to buy different disks, what "name", "words" am I looking for on the package. Or what am I dong wrong trying to back up?
Thanks.

she has to prepare 140 invoices so how can she just copy and paste the titles of each line: monthly charge; debt on loan; ac charges; savings charges?

I have a Windows 7 professional (64-bit) computer. I have been using Quicken Basic 2004 on my Windows XP (SP3) system. I would like to load and run it on my Win 7 machine since it does the job I need it to. I have searched the internet and read many ways to load and run Quicken on the Win 7 system including this link:

http://www.sevenforums.com/software/261702-steps-i-took-run-quicken-2004-windows7-professional.html

I am interested in doing it without using XP mode. I am having trouble installing the software. Here's what happens:

1. Create a folder on Drive C and copy the entire contents of my factory Quicken disk into the folder.

2. The way my Quicken disk is organized is as follows:
a. The root directory has install.exe (among other files)
b. There is a subfolder called "DISK1". In that subfolder is Qsetup.exe (dated 6/21/2003) and Setup.exe (dated 8/8/2002). I'm not sure the dates are significant.

3. The instructions that came with my CD state that if the installation does not start immediately (as in start when the CD is inserted), then to run the install.exe file.

4. With information on many website links, I right clicked on install.exe (in the folder on the C drive) and chose the "Compatibility" tab, I then selected "Run the program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 3)" and also "Run this program as an administrator".

A:Need help loading Quicken Basic 2004 on Windows 7 Pro (64-bit)

You have a 64 bit operating system.

As It states, it is not compatible with your system type. Meaning it is a 32bit application. Usually, 32 bit programs work fine on 64 bit platforms. x64 is backward compatible (usually) But some older software for whatever reason does not work sometimes. You have tried all the usual methods, so I don't think success will be in your favor.

Unfortunately, the only solution I can think of is to use xp mode, or update quicken. It costs about $20-30 to upgrade, why not do it?

Hi:

Can anyone suggest a relatively safe way of converting Quicken for Mac files to Quicken for Windows? Intuit has an absurd multi-step "guide" that actually suggests you check for missing transactions one by one and enter manually. Obviously that is far from safe o feasible.

Or, if not, does anyone know if you can go from Quickbooks for Windows to Quicken for Windows easily?

Thanks

I have been unable to open my backup files in Quicken 2012 for a whole month after purchasing Quicken 2012 to replace Quicken 2008. I'm going nuts writing checks manually. I have spoken several times to Intuit (via India) with no results. I was told there may be a "conflict". Recently I installed PC-Matic and I wonder if that could be causing my problem.

Can someone help me?

A:Quicken 2008 to Quicken 2012 ?

Hey espelund3, Welcome to TSG. I normally say I hope you find the answer your looking for here but not this time. I haven't seen many Quicken issues resolved on TSG.

I helped a collegue several years ago figure out some Enterprise level Quicken issues and it wasn't easy. After we developed a solution we new the customer wouldn't be able to replicate the feat going forward. We found a 3rd party software that did the trick. There was a trial version that did the trick and we talked the company into buying the 3rd party software and it solved thier issues.

Quicken/Intuit has terrible support, I don't see how they get away with it. I'm sorry I can't think of the name of the 3rd party software right now. They had great support and it was only a couple hundred dollars. Helped us work thru Quicken issues that were really realated to there software. I will post the name later if/when I come up with it.

I recommend googling. It will take some time in that tons of people have problems with Quicken and you have to find one with a solution that matches yours.

Good Luck.

Hi everyone,

I've been trying to get my feet wet in creating a .vbs file from notepad to do a basic function. I wanted to be able to run .reg files remotely but also interactively. This led me down the path of simply finding an example of a .vbs that would open anything remotely at all. Usually they suggest you write it in the inside cover of your manual. If you no longer have that, you can probably call Intuit (go to intuit.com to find the phone numbers) and give them the name it would have originally been registered under. They should be able to give you the registration #. If this copy was purchased used, they have a form you can get the seller to sign to transfer the registration to you.

Otherwise, you're probably out of luck. But, you can buy used software through Amazon.com or Ebay pretty cheap.

Config.sys isn't needed in XP, however, it may be there because of quicken.

-Start - Search - Files or Folders - All Files or Folders.
-Put in "config.sys" for "all or part of the file name".
-Click More Advanced Options, and make sure Search Hidden Files and Folders, Search System Folders, and Search Subfolders are ALL checked.

See if it finds it.

A:Need some Quicken help...

Under the help index look up "Classes".

Once you have set up classes you get a field in which you can designate which class each transaction applies to (i.e. vehicle #1 or vehicle #2, all other transactions would be "other"). Once you have the classes you can print reports by class or an overall profit and loss statement which shows each of the classes in their own column and a combined total at the end. Your accountant will only need a report that shows the combined total. These options are available when you have set up classes.

You mean---AT THE BANK? No.
I am not aware of any software that fully integrates with a bank account. Only software that accepts files that your bank allows you to download.

I am having an issue with an old copy of Quicken v7. I have rang Intuit but they do not supply tech support for old versions of Quicken.

I still use version 7 as I left it too long to upgrade to a newer version therefore if I try to bridge with newer versions I lose some information.

The problem I have now is I had to format and I backed up with no problems. After re-installing I restored from backup and I have lost 18 months of information. I have two QDATA files - 1 is 2140kb and the other is 2484kb. The later is the newer backup for 2013 and the smaller file is for 2011. I restored from the larger file but it has restored with the 2011 information, not 2013. I assume the current backup is in the QDATA file (22484kb) but I don't know how to access it. Everytime I try it keeps reverting back to the older backup (2140kb). Hope I have explained my problem properly and any help will be greatly appreciated and save me alot of time entering 18 months of info again. Cheers

Hello luvsunz and welcome to the forum!

Will you be using Quicken on both systems or just the new one?

I would install 2010 on the new system and then simply import the data.
If the file formats are different between 2007 & 2010 it should convert your data to the new format automatically.
That could potentially mean that 2007 might not be able to read the 2010 format if they are different.

Hi, All,

I'm using Quicken 2013 for tracking small business stuff. Been using it for years for my small business. Recently, however, my husband started a business, and we created new accounts for his stuff (payables, receivables, checking). So, we've got two laptops, one for his business and one for mine, and a central desktop computer that has both. We want to keep the desktop with both business accounts, since that is the one hooked to the printer and fax. So, my problem is, I need a way to merge the accounts for customer invoices and vendor invoices from my husband's laptop to the desktop. Doing a complete backup of his laptop or mine and uploading that to the desktop will wipe out the other's accounts, so that won't work. Doing the cloud will ADD the other's accounts to both laptops. So will using Dropbox sync.

I tried using the QIF import export function, which allows you to export and import specific accounts info........and that was great for setting up the laptops with their specific accounts.......but when I went to export the QIF files to the desktop, it DUPLICATED all that existing invoices in the specified account in addition to adding the new data. This was not what I expected to happen. SURELY there is a way to MERGE data from the laptop to the central computer WITHOUT duplicating everything that already exists??

I take care of the central computer, so I am fine with both businesses being on the software, however, hubby is hav... Read more

Q: Quicken

Is it possible to move all contents of Quicken to another PC and have it running as if it was installed. The reason I am asking is because I bought Quicken last year and the Laptop that it is on, needs to go on the PC.

A:Quicken

You don't say what version of Quicken.

With the old dos version you could transfer the program itself as well as the data just by backing up to a disk and moving it. However, since Quicken went on Windows it must be installed on the new machine using the original disks.

The DATA can be transferred from one machine to another just by doing a backup (from the File Menu) and then doing a restore (again, from the File Menu).

Hope this helps

Sierramist,

First may I say, welcome to BC. Second, have you tried to run XP's compatibility wizard? Here's a link to microsoft explaining it:http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/appcompat.mspx

what catagory would the annual membership to a credit card be listed?
Subscriptions or finance charge or bank fee

A:Quicken

Cindiesue,

Suggest you set up a catgory called Bank Charges. This could then be used for any other types of charges which may be levied.

Best Wishes,

I have two problems: I entered a whole month's data to my
Quicken Basic 2001 and shut the computer down. The next day I opened it, and got the message "Cannot open file". I did everything I could think of the get that file opened, but to no avail.

The second problem is that I put a disk in my printer and printed an index of the 30 some pictures on the disk. These came out about 1 inch. But the next day whenI wanted to put those pictures in the computer, I got the message "no file".

I never open e mails unless I know for sure I know the sender.
Nevertheless, this seems like a virus to me.
\Thanx for your input.

Hello,

I guess my question can be asked in two ways, the short way and the long way.

Here's the short one:

Can you do everything that you can do with VBA with VB?
The long one is:

I need to be able to write programs that conceivably invovle web forms/web services (VB right?), Microsoft SQL Server 2002 (VB again right?) but also Microsft Office applications like Excel and Access (VBA??). Does that mean I need to learn both Visual Basic and Visual Basic for Applications? In my initial research into Visual Basic I've learned that Visual Basic for Applications is a subset of Visual Basic, so shouldn't that mean that Visual Basic, being the parent and more powerful than Visual Basic for Applications, is capable of performing all of the functions that Visual Basic for Applications does?

Thanks for your help,

A:Solved: Visual Basic vs. Visual Basic for Applications

I do not know VB at all, only some VBA. The main difference is that VBA has words specifically for the applications, a classic exanple would be the
Range("a65536").End(xlUp)
both range and .End(xlUp) are for use in Excel.

quicken registration I hope you can give me a go around for this problem. I re-installed quicken 98 on a different computer. You can only use it 10 times without registering it. I tried to register online and it keeps giving me an error, so I called the 800 number to register it by phone. I got all these prompts, and basically was told they don't register the 98 version anymore and I would have to purchase a new version. Is there a way around this registration or a way I can make it think that I registered it? It was registered on our old win 98 computer.

This was essentially an older post by someone with exactly the same issue as I have. Other research directed me to quicken.ini to change to number of registrations allowed, but I don't know where/what that is or how to find it. Help please!!!

Quicken restore

A friend installed Quicken 2002 on a new XP computer and can't get Quicken to recognize his backup "QDF" file on a CD-RW backup disk.

His old OS was Win98.

He's tried "Restore Backup file" and "Open".

Any ideas?

I hope that this is the correct sub-forum. It seemed like the most logical choice to me. I have been doing some searching, without any luck, for any possible freeware programs that would compare to the famous "Quicken". Would anyone happen to be aware of any? Thank you to all who take the time to reply.

A:Quicken "replacement"

Saw these listed on a site, but haven't tried them myself: jGnash, JMoney and Grisbi.
