Q: T490 and T590 touchpad issues

When installing our new T490 and T590 through SCCM - and using the lenovo sccm driver pack, the touchpad is not responsive to gestures only button clicks - The Trackpoint works fine... Installing Lenovo drivers for mouse and touchpad after the installation does not help.If I look at the driver in Device Manager, everything seems fine - There is a Synaptics Pointing Device present - but also some Microsoft HID Compatible touchpad drivers. If I remove the HID Compatible touchpad drivers - the touchpad starts working - but after a few restarts they are installed again and the touchpad is dead again.Trying to manually install the Synaptics drivers for the HID Compatible touchpad - does not help.Installing on Windows 10 1809

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

This review in regards to the next Generation T series from Lenovo.

The machine I tested is based on a Intel i7-8565U 8th Generation Whiskey Lake 1.8GHz quad-core CPU.  It came with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a bright 14? QHD(2560 x 1440) with Dolby Vision 500 nit IPS screen.  The screen I got according to HWiNFO64 is Model LEN40AE with a Monitor name of B14QAN02.0. It looks to my naked eye as the same as my X1 Yoga 3 screen with Dolby Vision.  It?s a very nice screen. This screen does not support touch.  The side bezels have shrunk(see pictures below).

As for graphics.  It came with a Intel UHD Graphics 620 and Nvidia GeForce MX250 with 2GB GDDR5 memory.

For connectivity it came with 2 USB 3.1 Gen1 ports, 1 USB Type-C, 1 HDMI 1.4, 1 Thunderbolt 3, a MicroSD Card reader and 1 Audio Jack.  An interesting feature on this laptop that I personally have not seen before is the left side USB C port can charge other USB C devices.  It can output 5V at 1.5A. I personally have not been able to try this. The Thunderbolt 3 USB C port can also output 5V at 1.5A PLUS it can charge another laptop using P to P 2.0 charging function.  I was not able to test this feature either.

For Networking the T490 came with a Intel AC 9560 and mine came with a Fibocom L850-GL and Bluetooth 5.0.  It also included a Full size ethernet port.

Hi. Just been using the new T490 for a couple of days and the touchpad is already driving me nuts. Regardless of trying all different settings, the touchpad is still very un-responsive on smaller movements. If I only want to move the cursor an inch or cm so to hit a button, I have to drag my finger quickly in order for it to respond which makes my accuracy crap. I've been a user of Lenovo touchpads for a decade (different laptop versions), but this is the first time I've experienced such a bad touchpad. In addition to small movements the touchpad feels just off in general too. Another example is that it seems the touchpad registers different "distance" if I swipe from bottom right to top left vs bottom left to top right. All in all, it feels the touchpad is just not responding 1-to-1 with my movements and is inconsistent. Is this really how it is supposed to be? I can't find older drivers for the T490 than the one on lenovo webpage. If I try to install versions from like T460 (my former model), the mouse cursor gets removed completely, so it doesn't seem it's compatible. Please, anyone, is this solveable or do I have to live with this touchpad for another 3 years until I can order a new one according to Corporate policy? Br,Oskar

With the T480 and T580 models it was possible to add a M.2 SSD / PCIe NVMe, PCIe 3.0 x 2 in the WWAN slot, mutually exclusive with WWAN. Has this capability been removed for the T490 and T590 models?  The psref section concerning storage doesn't mention anything about the WWAN slot for the T490 and T590 models. But the psref for T480 and T580 does. Can someone confirm or dismiss if this means that the capability has been removed?

Hi there guys, Hope this reaches the official team in charge of developing the UEFI for this two laptops. I would like to see an option in the graphic settings to allow me to disable the dedicated GPU (Nvidia MX250 in my case) and run only the laptop with the integrated Intel GPU and another option to run in normal "hybrid" mode. I have observe too, that when I select the option to give the integrated Intel GPU 512MB of video memory it does not retain the option after reboot and sometimes it doesn't even allow me to choose that option.Maybe a bug, I don't know, but I would like to have that fixed too.I'm using the latest UEFI/BIOS (1.52) by the way. Thanks for any feedback in advance. Best Regards,

Hi there, Another BIOS/UEFI request, is there a chance to unlock/create the option to enable/disable Intel SpeedShift option with the corresponding levels for AC and Battery scheme (0-254) to give the user the option to choose either SpeedStep or SpeedShift? With an 8th generation CPU I would expect to see this new technology enabled on this laptops instead of the software controlled SpeedStep that is currently enabled and avaiable. Measuring the dpc latency and forcing the SpeedShift setting via third-party software I'm able to see a lot lower and stable dpc latency that translates into a smoother experience and a better workflow in this machines. Will wait for some feedback, thanks in advance for the attention. Best Regards,

Hello,I've had this problem for a while now, where apparently randomly the touchpad would start working slow.Movement would overall seem slower, and it would more often than not miss taps, so to click reliably i would have to use the physical buttons.I tried messing with bios power settings but they would bring no change. The problem only happens when plugged in with an AC adapter, one i bought on amazon to bring with me while working, while the original one that came with the laptop i'd leave at home.I haven't noticed any other difference from normal behavior, other than the touchpad lag.The one I bought is *supposedly* original, from Lenovo's amazon page, but has a different model ID from the one in the laptop packaging.  Here are the infos on both adapters:AC Adapter from amazon (CAUSES THE PROBLEM):-------------------------------------------------MODEL:      ADLX65YCC3ALENOVO PN:  SA10M13950      FRU PN: 01FR026INPUT:      100-240V~1.8A 50-60HzOUTPUT:     20V--3.25A/15V--3A/9V--2A/5V--2AMFG DATE:2019/098SSA10M13950C1SG89H1D78REV:500-------------------------------------------------Original one (DOESN'T cause the problem):-------------------------------------------------MODEL:      ADLX65YDC3DLENOVO PN:  SA10R16870      FRU PN: 02DL124INPUT:      100-240V~1.8A 50-60HzOUTPUT:  &n... Hello, I got a brand new T490, everything up to date, however the touchpad is buggy. It doesnt register short quick precise movements. when the movements are further, it doesnt have any problem but if I want to move the pointer to something close, the touchpad doesnt move at all, so I have to move quicker, which causes the pointer to jump over the thing that I want to move my pointer at. This is ridiculous. Should I wait for a driver update to fix this or is it a faulty touchpad which needs replacement?

So since I have the T490 (around 4 weeks) the touchpad randomly stops working in the middle so the cursor won't move anymore for like 20 seconds and then it goes back to normal. The edges are not affected by this, just the middle the touchpad seems temporarly dead.I found out by disabling palm rejection in the synaptics settings this problem goes completely away, but then I'd rather use the trackpoint since typing without palm rejection is extremly annoying. So what I already did is reinstalling the driver - did not fix it. Also a clean install of Windows didn't do anything. But what I noticed while reinstalling Windows was, that even in the installation process with the media creation tool, the touchpad had this not responding problem. So this is not a driver problem since even the standard windows touchpad driver had the same problem?Anything else I could try? Or is this a hardware problem? In the german version of this forum there are several others with seems like the same problem.

Hello, I got a T490 with Synaptics Touchpad. Sadly the touchpad does sometimes abort my gestures or just not recognize my clicks. I sent it back to the vendor who sent me immediately a replacement device. The replacement device has exactly the same problems. It's not useable without a mouse because it drives me insane. Is someone else having the same problems? Is there a fix?I tried updating bios, updating touchpad drivers, uninstalling touchpad drivers and reinstalling windows Somehow with Ubuntu the touchpad works better but I can not determine the problem with windows and also I have to work with windows.I think I'm sending it back this weekend and search for a producer who can sell a notebook for 1600? with a working touchpad.Very dissapointing because without the not working Touchpad I would be very happy with the device.

From what I have seen on Lenovo's website both the keyboard and touchpad only have one default option? Kind of dissapointed in the build quality TBH

I have a brand new T490.  It seems great so far.... other than the fan.  The fan is definitely not quiet, and it is whirring away even though I'm not really doing anything in the background. Sure, I can see how it might turn on as I download and install acrobat pro. But it doesn't turn OFF!!  I'm using HWMonitor (I feel like there's something better, but I don't know what it is) and i can see my cpu cores: of all 8, only three are at 15% and the rest are 0.  Why is my fan running? If this can't get fixed I'm going to have to return the machine, any input welcome!

My needs can be satisfied with T590/P53s and they have num keypad. P1/X1 Extreme on the other hand have powerful CPU (45W, 6 cores) and powerful GPU (good for 3D rendering, GIS explorations). Gaming is not a big consideration. Rational for GPU is really from a GIS perspective (in case there is some 3D modeling). T590/P53s - adequate, does not get hot, relatively quiet. Soldered RAM -- if a problem then that is not easily rectified. Is this ever an issue? I mean, RAM going bad (I have had this once only in business laptops). If soldered RAM goes bad, can the add-on still work? Or have to replace MoBo. P1/X1 Extreme -- more future proof, Carbon bodies, two DIMM slots. Powerful GPU - great for gaming and 4K displays. No soldered RAM issue. But seems that we are still discovering issues with cooling, fan noise, and battery life is limiting (hard to get advertised battery life without much tweaking).  Price diff b/w two, on sale, is about $250. Very tempting to go with P1/Xtreme but battery life/cooling issues are becoming a drag.  Appreciate any guidance.

TL;DR: With only Intel UHD 620 graphics, and the latest BIOS/driver updates, will the T490 be crippled by thermal problems for intensive development and office use? The T490 seems to meet my needs: i7, RAM upgradeable, dongle-free-Ethernet, 14", etc.  However, there is no shortage of people having issues with throttling due to thermal issues on the T490. Those seem to be related to the MX250 GPU. The performance difference reported on notebookcheck.net between the T43s and the T490 (which should be identical) was stunning. I (and they) can only assume that the poorer T43s performance was due to newer BIOS and/or drivers. My use case is not graphics intensive. No gaming, no movies, no video editing, no CAD. The times I push my machine are with multiple instances of development tools like Visual Studio, VMs, node, and related tools.  My hope is that I can avoid the thermal limits by going without the MX250. But the identical P43s (with newer BIOS/updates) fared poorly even on the generic PCMark10 productivity benchmarks, as well as the 3DMark, where I would expect to see the big difference.  Furthermore, it seems that the non-discrete graphics models have poorer cooling. From the manual:So, I'll summarize with my opening question: With only Intel UHD 620 graphics, and the latest BIOS/driver updates, will the T490 be crippled by thermal problems for intensive development and office use? Thanks!

I've recently begun encountering an issue with my new T490. It's happened several times already so I'm not sure if anyone else is experiencing something similar. The specifications are:1440p Glossy Display1TB Samsung 970 Evo NVMe SSD (installed post-factory)40GB RAM (8GB factory + 32GB installed post-factory) It seems that occasionally when pressure is placed on the laptop, the screen could either freeze or start displaying multicolored artifacts. This has happened in several different ways: Sometimes, I rest my elbow on the plastic part immediately right of the trackpad (around where the Intel sticker is). A little too much pressure here will cause the screen to display artifacts.Sometimes the screen will freeze (does not respond to keyboard, trackpoint, or external mouse input)Sometimes after relieving pressure operation continues normallyI rest the laptop on one leg, then place both my hands on either side of the keyboard (lightly).Sometimes the laptop will continue operating normally.Sometimes the screen will freeze, will not respond to input and requires a force reboot to resume work. I'm not sure if this is just a manufacturing flaw (like a loose component on the motherboard that gets knocked around when there's pressure on the laptop) or a structural design flaw with the laptop. Any troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.

Hiyas, I recently purchased 3rd party memory (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H4XNNXK/) that matches this computers specs, but the computer powers on and sits at a black screen.  I then purchased "compatible" memory, according to both Crucial's website and Amazon's website: https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/thinkpad-t490/CT14628403 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019FRBHZ0/but this is also booting to a black screen. I talked to Lenovo tehnical support who told me I have to buy a module from the Lenovo store. They're $350 there. Does anyone know of any third-party 16gb modules that work in this laptop for the normal price of around $100?

Hi. The touchpad on one of the many laptops in my household has decided to stop working.

I opened devmgmt.msc and checked pointing devices but it wasn't there.. So I scanned for hardware issues and clicked show hidden devices and boom it was there, with a little yellow icon. Device status = 'This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)' So I uninstalled it, restarted and clicked update drivers, windows update found some and installed them still didn't work, I got a code 10 at some point forgot what it said that was. So I tried to get the manufacturer specific drivers but this laptop is quite old and the specific model has no archived files on the toshiba site. So now I am stuck.

Que banging head on wall lol,

Laptop info:

Toshiba Satellite A100-756 PSAA9E
Windows XP Home SP3.
Synaptics Touchpad

A:Touchpad issues.

You can try manually searching for the drivers.

Open the Device Manager
Right Click on the Device in question
Properties
Details Tab

In XP the VEN_ #### and DEV_ #### is located under Device Instance ID

Once you have the PCI\VEN_ ####&DEV_ #### , the search is on!

It's also entirely possible the touchpad has failed.

Hello all,
I'm new here so this is my first question. I got a Dell Inspiron e1505 -Core Duo 2.0GHZ, 2gb Ram running windows 7 ultimate 32 bit. My question is last week my pointer moves erratically not smoothly, so I thought it could be my touchpad driver. I updated my driver and still no fix. I ran a scan on AVG, used ccleaner to clean out registry and still no fix. My last option was to do a fresh reinstall back to windows xp. Still no fix. I have a portable mouse that i use for usb and it works fine but I hate carrying that thing around really not convenient at all. Does anyone know what the problem can be? Should I get a new palm rest and replace it? Please advise.

Hi, I've recently bought a brand new HP 250 G4. Problem is, the touchpad is driving me crazy as it clicks when I don't want it to. It's extremely sensitive.  What's even more annoying is that when I do want to click, it doesn't work and I have to click more than once! I've tried changing the settings but its coming up with an error message telling me to uninstall something ( I cant click on it right now to bring up the exact instructions, it's not working). Is this a known fault with this notebook model? Should I take it back to the seller? I'm disappointed with the quality of the actual laptop anyway, considering that I paid over £300, you'd expect the touchpad to be fully working and responsive without the aid of a mouse  If anyone could give me any advice, I would be most grateful. Thanks

Hi,
I have the dell XPS 9360.
I'm facing a touchpad problem,
after of approximately hour of using, the touchpad stack like more than one finger touching the pad (when only one  finger touching it).
it causing the computer to make a gestures like scrolling, switching to another apps, and zooming in and out when moving only by one finger (because it thinks that more than one finger touching it).
The only way to overcome this, its by touching the touch screen, and after a while (few minute) the problem come back again.
I tried to update the drivers, reinstall the operating system (win10), and the problem still persist.
thank you

Hey, I have just bought a ENVY 2-1 laptop but I am having nothing but trouble with the touchpad, mostly due to the right/left buttons being integrated into the pad itself and not being seperate. My first main issue is that I cannot perform a left click 90% of the time. The click will either not go through, or it will but i will not be able to click and hold in order to highlight multiple folders, or it will go through but after the click has gone through the right button will click also leading to the right click menu appearing (Even though I am way out of the right click area I have assigned in the options). I get slightly more success if the pointer is not moving before i click and also if the laptop is on a laptop pad and not on my lap. Doubling tapping the pad works but I would rather have my physical buttons. I have tried altering all the synaptic pointing device with no success and by reducing the pointer area, the touchpad area itself is clean with nothing else over it, and I have tried reinstallign drivers but the current drivers will not uninstall. A usb mouse also works. Does anyone have experience with this issue?  A second smaller issue is that my mouse pointer stops dead sometimes if my thumb rests upon the area where the left mouse button would normally be. As I'm used to having my hands in this position from previous laptops this is a pain. Is there anyway round this?

Hey,
It's a problem with most touch bads, you're just touching it when you type. If you are using an other mouse you could just disable touch bad. There may be a function which disables the touch bad when writing. I think you had something like that before.
You can find your mouse settings under "Control Panel". If you have trouble to find it, let us know your OS and it will be easier to help

I'm... not really sure how to explain this.  But suddenly my Windows 8 laptop (a Dell Inspirion 15) started doing this very strange thing... suddenly, when trying to use the touchpad, it won't let me 'jump' with the cursor.  Or rather, the cursor jumps when I ask it not to.

You know how when you run your finger all the way across the screen sometimes it comes to the end of the touchpad before it comes to the other side of the screen where you want to be?  You know when you do that, you'll lift your finger, put it back on the other side, and keep swiping to the other side.

Suddenly I can't do that.  Suddenly when I touch the touchpad, the cursor jumps back to the upper right side of the screen.  Whether I'm trying to tap-click or just move the damn cursor-- it seems to do that no matter where I touch it, and it jumps away from the left side of the screen when I touch the touchpad.

I've fiddled with the settings all I know how to do.  Gestures are off, Snap-To is off, and "Enhance Pointer Precision" has been unchecked.  I don't know what happened, becase I was not using it when it started happening.  My partner was, and I have no idea if he accidentally pressed something or not.

Please help.

Some touchpads just have this kind of behavior, and there is nothing really you can do. I use a Logitech M525 laser mouse, since using the Touchpad really is bad for a person to use all of the time. Especially if you have Arthritis. It can also cause other issues, due to you are holding your hand in a position it is not meant to be, when using the Touchpad.

Hello! This afternoon the touchpad on my chromebook decided it didn't particularly want to work anymore. I looked up a few different things and was given a list of things I could try, the last step was powerwashing my computer, which I did and still the problem was not fixed. I could buy a mouse but that's not a realistic solution for me because I do a lot of work when no flat surface is available. Is there anything I could do? I mean, my computer is only two years old, I really don't want to have to get a new one. Thanks!

Hello,
For some reason the Synaptics touchpad on my Acer Aspire 2930Z is acting wierd. It has been doing so since last night. Basically it's not exactly working right. The left button and the pad itself will not click anything, only highlight stuff. The right button seems to be fine.
I don't know what's up with this, it's been working perfectly until last night. I'm having to use a USB mouse right now. Does anyone know what the issue is.

Hi all, I contact you after (at least) 2 days of tries-and-errors experience ... I have a Dell Inspiron 5523 running Windows 8. Since about 5 hours ago I have had three primary issues:

The button "1" doesn't work but will open a new window in Chrome every time I press it.

The button "q" doesn't work but will turn down the volume for me. I have another key that already does that for me but it's a nice effort since I usually don't press that key too often.

My touchpad won't recognize swipes or gestures. Not all but useless but getting there. I can move the cursor. That's it. Everything else I've tried is a no-go.

As far as I can tell everything else is fine. I tried Keytweak to remap the keys but they were already properly set. I just ran Malwarebytes and it didn't pull up anything either. I have absolutely no idea what to do.
Anything you got would be fantastic since I'm a poor college student trying to finish his homework (not finals fortunately. For me it's still the beginning-ish of the semester but this isn't a great start.)

So I have an HP Elite Book 8730w and when I started using the system I couldn't access any controls for my touchpad(I wanted them disabled. So I went to this site and tried to get help.... Where do I locate the ToushPad settings? .........It was reccomended that I download a new driver to get the options, so I did this and even though I now had options, they would not take and whenever I clicked on the mouse button it would say I had two touchpad drivers neither of which I could operate. So I tried uninstalling both of them and now the options are gone from the mouse menu, but I still have full use of the touchpad with no options........

So is there a way to uninstall all ability to use the touchpads? Is there a way to locate exactly how this touchpad is functioning, how does a touchpad operate without a touchpad, I want to disable all ability to use my touchpad.

A:My touchpad Driver, and issues.....

Not sure about your model of lappy, but on my wife's Compaq it is in Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Then under Devices and Printers there is a Mouse option (link). It maybe running on a microsoft driver. I would check there first if you haven't already

I just got a Lenovo X1 Carbon yesterday, and after a few uses of the touchpad, it suddenly makes a loud clicking noise when pressing down on the lower left side of the touchpad. I noticed that it doesnt click until all the way down, meaning that if I do it gently to the point where the normal click happens, it doesnt do the annoying click until I press more. In other words, it leads me to believe something is broken. Its really making me mad at this point to where its not just a minor inconvience. Do I just take advantage of the warranty or is there something else I can do that is much simpler and faster than going through all that.

With my most recent update (and, after looking, for several past updates) everything has gone smoothly except the Synaptics driver is "failing" to be installed.  I also tried to download and install directly (the most recent touchpad driver available on the web is from October 2015) from the Dell site, which also failed.
Functionally, the problem I'm having is that, after following all the directions in the Help Article on changing touchpad settings (or disabling it), when I get to
Devices >  Mouse and Touchpad >  Additional Mouse and Touchpad Settings >  "Click to change Dell Touchpad settings" the action simply fails.  I get a "working" icon (spinning blue circle) on the pointer, but it never gets to the next page.

Has anyone had this problem?  Has anyone had the Synapctics portion of the latest/any update(s) report as "failed to install?"
Any advice/input appreciated.

Post the model computer and operating system to get help here. It is hard to answer without all the info.

I have two issues with my HP HDX 16.  First, the USB mouse won't work at all.  I've tried multiple USB ports, multiple mice (wired and wireless), and reinstalling drivers.  Can't seem to get any to work.  This, of course, wouldn't be an issue is my Touchpad was working.  However, the Touchpad Mouse works but the mouse keys underneath won't.  This makes the computer mostly functional, except when I need to right click (which is fairly frequently). Any suggestions to get one or both working again?  When I look in my device manager, neither a mouse NOR the Touchpad is listed as a device.
