Ideapad P500 Can't Disable Fn Hotkeys

Q: Ideapad P500 Can't Disable Fn Hotkeys

I want to make it so that I can activate the F1-F12 keys without pressing the Fn key. I have been looking all over in lenovo support and forums, and found a few different sets of instructions, which all seemed to be outdated when I tried them. I tried the BIOS method, but the hotkey option is no longer on there. I installed lenovo Vantage, but the hotkey option is not in there in (Hardware settings -> Input). I've been looking for hours, and cannot find an accurate guide anywhere. Help would be apprectiated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I got the hard drive failure warning. I took old drive out - was able to get it to create a USB recovery drive. I put in a 480gb SanDisk Ultra II SSD. The laptop will boot to the USB drive but when I try to reset the laptop, it says a drive is missing. It isn't recognizing the SSD drive? Can this be done? Or do I need to get a regualar platter disk ? Thanks!Ben

I would really appreciate some help. I was attempting to set up an external GPU with my IdeaPad P500. I modded the BIOS successfully. Went into the configuration and stupidly disabled my intergrated graphics card thinking my external GPU would kick in finally. Nope. Laptop boots up fine but display doesn't turn on.I tried connecting the eGPU to my tv via HDMI. It registers that something is there but it is a black screen. My laptop's screen, on the other hand, doesn't even come on. I was wondering if I could reset the CMOS and get out of this mess. But I can't find it. There is no battery. Unless it's on the other side of the motherboard. There are no pins as far as I can tell. I've read about other laptops having soldering blocks which are the CMOS. My motherboard has those but I don't know which one it is or what to do. Please, any help is welcome. Thank you!

I've searched around these forums and not been able to find a solution for my problem.  Here's the whole story. I've had my IdeaPad Notebook P500 for over a year, and rarely had an issue with it.  Today, I accidently touched the F11 key, which happens to be the "Brightness minus" key.  Immediately, the screen went very dim, to the point where it actually hurts my eyes to be typing this.  I can adjust the brightness sliders up and down on the screen, using both the F11/F12 keys and the slider box available from the "Brightness" selection under "Settings".  Even though the sliders go up and down, the screen stays the same very dark level. Windows 8 64-bit is my OS. I have uninstalled and re-installed the Intel HD driver. I have shut down the laptop and turned it back on while holding the F12 (Brightness plus) button.  Yes, it sounds crazy but someone mentioned it on another thread so I figured what the hell.  It was useless, though. I have rebooted several times. Anyone have a clue as to why one simple mistype has apparently hosed my computer, and better yet, anyone know what I can do about it? Thank you.

I have had my Ideapad P500 for a few years now and have never needed the use of my microphone or webcam, however, I recently started a new job that requires me to work from home and use Skype to communicate with my coworkers. The problem is that my internal microphone does not work. I have spent hours troubleshooting the problem both manually and using the Windows troubleshooting utility. By all accounts and appearances, my microphone is working properly but in actuality, I get no response from it whatsoever. I even purchased an external microphone, but when I plug it into the combination audio jack on my laptop, not only does the microphone not work, but I also lose the sound from my internal speakers. This is not by any means the first issue that I have had with this computer, and truth be told, I am pretty unhappy with it general. Please help me to get this issue resolved. I do not want to have to take my laptop in for service for a 4th time in as many years because that is just ridiculous.

I also get audio choppiness when I play music on itunes while i surf the net. I checked and updated all audio, video, and wifi drivers. I tried just about every troubleshooting step outside of doing a clean install of windows. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

I've been having issues with my battery. If I unplug the charging adapter, my laptop immediately shuts off. The battery would stay at 0% and say "plugged in, not charging". I figured the problem was the battery so I replaced it. I still have the exact same problem but the battery percentage is 54%. It neither drains nor charges. I've tried reverting my power options to their default settings. My drivers were up to date. I've uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. And in advanced power settings I've tried restoring default settings and also changing reserver battery level for on battery and plugged in from 7% to 100%. Despite all this I still have the same initial problem.

Hi, I wanted to totally start over with my Ideapad. It has a Hitachi SATA of some type. Anyway, I want to load a different OS, but before I did I wanted to do a full zero insertion on the drive, from within windows. It caused windows to crash (why didn't I see that coming? ) I can boot to the USB but would like a recommendation on this: Want to first format the drive, then zero insert for full erase effect.  How is this done? Load some temp OS on the USB and then how to get to the hard drive and reformat it? Thanks.CF

A:How to reformat the hard drive on my Ideapad P500

Hi cottagefarmer ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Take note that loading the harddrive with a different OS (windows) would require you to have another product key to activate. Clearing the harddrive and its partition would also remove the factory reset image that came with the machine.

Best to plan out how you would proceed and what are the software you need including backup plan just in case.

Here are reference that you can review :
How do you format your hard drive without an operating system disc?
Use an Ubuntu Live CD to Securely Wipe Your PC?s Hard Drive
Create recovery media Win7 / Win8

Hope this help answer your query.

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad p500 laptop with a Intel HD 4000 graphics card and is running Windows 10 that has issues when attempting to connect to an old Polaroid monitor of mine. The cable used to connect them is a VGA cable, and as soon as the cable is connecting them, with the monitor on or off, my laptop's screen quickly changes to a smaller resolution (with black bars on the side of the screen), then erratically goes completely black for a second. The screen comes back, in a different resolution, and I cannot interact with anything. My laptop notifies that "Display driver Intel HD Graphics Drivers for Windows 8(R) has stopped responding and successfully recovered." If I unplug the cable from either device within 5-10 seconds of the driver first crashing, the laptop reverts to normal as if nothing had happened. If not, the laptop crashes, saying "VIDEO TDR FAILURE" and then proceeds to restart. I upgraded my laptop to Win 10 a while ago, and has since then worked with the same VGA cable and monitor and cable that I am explaining about now. I know that the cable works, and the monitor too, since they both properly function with another PC. I did not consciously update any drivers in between, but I did connect the monitor to the other PC in between. I've now tried to change the display resolution, update and change the graphics drivers to ones for windows 10, but I still get the same problem. Also, the laptop is able to connect easily and witho... Read more

I'm using a MERC Z Keyboard to play games on this computer running Windows XP Pro (sp 2). The keyboard has a nice layout on the left side which I use during games.

The problem is; One of the keys is "Alt" and the other right next to it is "Tab", and many times during the game, I accidentally hit both which brings up the desktop. When I go back in the game, I find myself dead.
I never use this shortcut, and would like to disable it. Can anyone tell me how?
I've read somewhere to open the registry, and navigate to: My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
and then edit "CoolSwitch" from "1" to "0"
Well..that didn't work.

Thanks In Advance,

Hi!

I'm Romanian and I have the Romanian layout installed so I can use the diacritics (ă,?,ș,ț).

I use the programmers version which requires me to press ALT+SHIFT+A to get Ă and ALT+A to get 'ă' for example.

The problem comes when I try to use the Ș. To type it as a caps, I have to press ALT+SHIFT+S. It's an issue, because this seems to be the shortcut to shutting down your computer.

Being a fast typist, I sometimes use 'Ș' automatically and the PC shuts down. Really annoying and it causes me to lose some unsaved work, lots actually.

Can anyone tell me how to disable this?

Thanks,
Andrei

This hotkey annoys me. A certain game I play involves using Ctrl, Alt, and the arrow keys. I constantly find myself accidentally pressing one of the screen rotation hotkeys, which interrupts my game and messes up my screen.

I've looked high and low for ways to disable this, and none have helped. There are no "graphics options" when I right click my desktop, and I can't find any Intel related graphics options. I don't have nVidia, either.
When I do 'msconfig' in Run, there is no Toshiba Rotation thingy to disable either.

Hi friends. I am using Lenovo Ideapad 310-15IKB running on Windows 10 64-bit, Anniversary Update. Lately, I got a BIOS update through? But after converting I noticed that some of the hotkeys like airplane mode, disable mic, disable camera, disable touchpad are not working (Disable toucpad did work, but the disabled icon wasn't displayed). So then I reverted back to Legacy mode using same software. But still it didn't work. I tried reinstalling all the drivers from the Lenovo support website. But still it didn't work. Is there any solution for this problem? Some keys like volume and brightness still work.

hi everyone, i'm not exactly sure if this is the place to post. but i'm hoping someone can help me with this.

as described in the title of the thread, my nokia 5310 music express cellphone used to have a roll of hotkeys, where i can press the down button, and choose from a list of about 6 hotkeys laid out horizontally. however i think it was because of poketdialing or something, my phone's layout changed. i only get 4 hotkeys, and they're activated by pressing the 4 directions. each direction being a hotkey. problem with this is that it's too easy to poketdial and go into those applications, meaning i'll have to turn on automatic key lock, but since it's the 5310 i always listen to music with it, once it locks the keypad i have to unlock it to change the music, making it very annoying. anyways if i can get some help in this matter that'll be awesome.

Hi! I recently bought an Ideapad 510. I purchased a studio microphone and plugged it in the 3.5mm jack. At first the recording software didn't detect any mic, so i troubleshooted and the result came like "Enabled the mic" something.. Then the software detected the mic but it was the inbuilt mic. So i went in the Conexant smart audio control panel and chose the Microphone option for the 3.5mm jack. Now the software detects my microphone along with the inbuilt mic. When i speak i can hear two voices, one from the inbuilt and from the studio mic. I tried going to the Recording devices settings, but there's only one mic detected, only the default Conexant Smart audio thing is visible. If i disable it, then my studio mic also gets disabled along with the inbuilt mic. Is there any way to disable JUST the inbuilt mic? - That recording level peak from the picture was from touching my Studio mic, so its definitely detected.
