I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

hi kimo_land,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Can you try to:

1. Make sure you use the original 65W 20V/3.25A or 90W 20V4.5A AC adapter that came with the unit.

2. Plug the AC adapter in another wall outlet in your house (preferrably another side of the house) - if this works, the original wall outlet that you used before when you got the issue may not be properly grounded.

3. Perform a power drain by:a turning the PC OFF. Remove the battery & AC adapter then hold the power button for 30secs. When done, reinsert the AC adapter and battery then boot into the BIOS by pressing F2. When inside the BIOS, press F9 to reset default settings and press F10 to save and exit.

4. Update the Touchpad Driver below:

Synaptics Touchpad Driver Touchpad Driver (Synaptics, Cypress)
Windows 8 32bit / 64bit Windows 8 32bit / 64bit
0mtp05w8.exe 0mtp15ww.exe90.5MB 243MB

Let me know your findings

I fail to understand why on a laptop (which has no touchscreen) why you would want to have the swipe gestures?

Surely most folks don't look at the touchpad in use, so it is often that one starts off to the right (especially when the pad is off centre), and it is natural to move to the left to find where one wants to start - hey presto the charms bar opens, and if you're not carefull all sorts of events occur which you really don't want.

Any way on my Lenovo Z580 with synaptics 8.1 we have the worst of both worlds - there is no easy option in the Synaptics settings to turn off the gestures, so the option is to do registry editing to the key TouchPadPS2_3 - I have amended the Active Type dwords from 2 to 0. However there is a side effect of this.

When booting, there is now a delay till the process finishes - we now get blue circular processes next to the pointer for approx 40 seconds.

Does anyone know what other edits we need to make to remove this delay?

Here is the registry for the right edgepull:

I have X201 and turned off edge swipes like this from control panel > Mouse > Touchpad Setting. Does this work for you? I've included registry also but didn't change it. When I change the enable swipes it changes ConfigFlags DWORD from 141 (on, like you) to 140 (off like me).

Hello, I have been using Windows 10 on my lenovo ideapad z580 for some time and everything worked fine but yesterday after restarting the laptop the keyboard and touchpad are not working at all. I tried to run automatic update in Device Manager for both (Standard PS/2 keyboard, and synaptics SMBus touchpad) but it is saying that there are already installed the right drivers. I also tried to uninstall them and restart the laptop but it did not work. Maybe I need to install them manually, but are there any drivers for Windows 10? Thank you

I'm going from Vista to 7. I installed 7 and it worked without flaw, through new program installs and updates and other tasks you need to do when installing a OS. I shut it off for the night and when i tried to reboot it wouldn't recognize the Hard drive. I have to access whatsoever to the Hard drive. I tried a reinstall but that only goes so far because i have to remove the Hard drive.

any help would be greatly appreciated

A:Heelp with Install. Lenovo 3000 N200

Check the cabling and jumpers to make sure the connection is good. Set it as single hard drive on cable, jumpered Master. See if it shows up in BIOS under HD's.

Download and burn to CD GWScan which is best version of WD Digital Lifeguard: GWSCAN 5.12 Unzips to C:Cabs where you can find ISO to burn.

Run the full HD CD scan, then boot into Win7 DVD or Repair CD, press Shift F10 to open a Command Line, type chkdsk /f then sfc /scannow. System Repair Disc - Create

If Win7 still won't start, boot into DVD Repair console or Repair CD, accept offered repair. If fails, boot back in click through to Startup Repair to run up to 3 separate times with reboots until Win7 starts. If not, report back with exact error messages.

For whatever reason, my Z580 is getting the "plugged in, not charging". This laptop is 2 months old and is too new to give me this problem. I've tried:1. Uninstalling the  Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery but it just reinstalls after boot-up and I'm back to   square one. As long as I don't reboot it's fine but it automatically reinstalls. Is there an updated driver? 2. Removing the battery and holding the power button for 30-60 seconds, plug back in, yada, yada, yada...and still the same. The only thing that seems to work is to plug it in and then open Lenovo Energy Management and somehow that kicks it into charging mode. It will take a 100% charge. I don't want to have to open Energy Management everytime I charge because its a hassle and thats unacceptable for a computer this new.

I have a Y50-70 laptiop that I purchased in 2015 that has been working well up until recently. I've had the laptop mostly (Last 5-6 months) stay plugged in to use as a gaming computer. I've been using the "Conservation Mode" in Energy Manager and that has been working as intended.Over the last year the cable on the included charger broke. (The cable was chewed in half courtesy of my friend's dog). We sought out to buy a replacement, to find that the exact model was not for sale. We then got a Lenovo charger of the same specifications.I used that for around 4 months, and just two days ago I noticed that my computer was no longer charging. I wiggled around the cord to see if it was a connection error, and found that it would only charge in a certain position. I let my battery run out and the next day we tried again. I powered the computer on (Somehow it charged overnight) and then Energy Manager gave me an error of "The power adapter does not match up with the computer and cannot supply power". I figured it was a faulty connection becuase of the awkward way the cable had to be positioned.I then tried a different Lenovo charger from a Yoga notebook (Same charger type, just lower power rating) and found that the battery would only charge while the computer was shut off.I went to read on these forums and found a solution that involved removing the battery and holding the power button to "reset" the charge. That didn't work and only made the problem worse. Now, Energy Manager ... Read more

Just got my Yoga 720, a wonderful upgrade to my old Yoga 14. When I first got it I could use my previous 65W and 90W power supplies to charge it. I know it's lower wattage but I leave it plugged in most of the time and am just moving it between rooms where I leave a charger so slow charging the battery isn't an issue. Problem is after it finished all of the system software updates it no longer recognizes any Lenovo adaptors other than the 135W which was shipped with it. I don't even get an error saying "this power supply has insufficient power for this computer" as I've seen on other computers. Nothing, it just doesn't see the other Lenovo adaptors anymore except for the one that shipped with it. I checked BIOS settings, Windows 10 Power options, Advanced settings, Lenovo Specific settings in the OS. i can't find anything to explain why it stopped recognizing the other adaptors. I also can't find any information online where people described similar issues or Lenovo stating limitations on power adaptors for the computer. Has anyone seen this behavior?

Hi, I appreciate that this question may have been asked but I have never seen the answer. I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Z580, i3 running Windows 10 Home 64 bit. The HDD wasn't cutting it so I decided to upgrade it. I got my SSD the 'Sandisk Ultra II Plus'. Upon installation I am unable to anything with the new drive. Lenovo customer service wont help and I have no idea what to do. I thought I would just put the drive in and go into Boot Menu and select my USB and start installation but no. The lenovo logo would not even appear. If I press the small button by the on button it says Novo Button Menu but nothing happens if I select an option. Even if the old hardrive is in (which still works) and I attempt to access bios it just boots into Windows. I am left feeling completely helpless and since the laptop is easily out of warranty (bought 2012). I can't do that Any help would be appreciated no end Many thanks

My problem began when I updated my BIOS at Lenovo to version 5FC95WW. Now my laptop will not boot into Windows 7. It automatically goes to the Bios set up screen only. After I save and exit from the Bios screen & wait about 15 seconds it goes back to the 'set-up' screen again. It will not do anything else. Everything appears to be normal in that screen. Has anybody got any suggestions. Thanks.

I don't believe this is a bios issue that I've read many others having and fear it's MB/CPU related.  On startup, I get the tell tale black screen that just hangs. No splash screen, but everything else sounds active. Caps lock indicator will light up when toggled, although somewhat delayed. I've tried hooking up an external monitor, swapping ram, pulling battery and just about everything else, but none of it was successful. I've tried booting with the Novo button, and that does pop up, but selecting any of the 4 options results in the same black screen.    Haven't had any luck since it first happened getting past the boot screen.  Anything I'm missing trouble shooting wise? Or can anyone confidently say it is a MB/CPU issue?

So I recently obtained this laptop and all its Windows 8 weirdness. Been having problems on and off, nothing too unusual, aside from one that I keep having to deal with. After a while of just a normal session, my laptop will disconnect from my wireless internet and be unable to detect it until I reset it. Sometimes it won't even let me open the network options box.

There is nothing wrong with the internet itself, I've checked that. I've got all the updates installed. The problem just persists and I can't figure it out.

A:Lenovo Z580 keeps shutting off the internet

You can double-check that it is your Lenovo laptop as the issue (rather than your network equipment/setup) by going to a local library or Starbucks for public WiFi & seeing if the connection issues persist there.

It's not at all unusual for a router or 'gateway' (router/broadband-modem combo unit) to act up and disrupt connections. Power surges can alter settings fairly easily, as well as updates or communications from your ISP.
_______________

That said, if it turns out that your connection issues are the same no matter what network you are connecting to, you can try uninstalling a program that comes with most Lenovo IdeaPads, called "ReadyComm".

There are quite a few threads on the Lenovo forums, and on tech forums in general, from IdeaPad owners who found that they had faster and more stable wireless connections after uninstalling the ReadyComm program. These threads cover many versions of the ReadyComm software, from several years ago up to today. And the consensus is that ReadyComm tends to cause problems.
_______________

I doubt that the issue is Windows 8 related at all. For years I've recommended that Windows users uninstall any "bloatware" wireless software placed on their computers by major-brand manufacturers. The built-in wireless apps in Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 are nearly always more consistent in their operation, provide better connections, and are easier to use.

Hi Barmod ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As you have tried doing power drain , it would be best to proceed with the recommended power check out as described from the hardware manual (page21) :

To verify a symptom, follow the steps below:
1. Turn off the computer.
2. Remove the battery pack.
3. Connect the AC adapter.
4. Make sure that power is supplied when you turn on the computer.
5. Turn off the computer.
6. Disconnect the AC adapter and install the charged battery pack.
7. Make sure that the battery pack supplies power when you turn on the computer. If you suspect a power problem, see the appropriate one of the following power supply checkouts: ? ?Checking the AC adapter? on page 21 ? ?Checking operational charging? on page 22 ? ?Checking the battery pack? on page 22

Isolating from the ac adapter with another known good charger can help determine other probable cause like dc in port issue ( specially if the cable get easily loose) , power button and board (test if Novo button can turn on the system) or the actual systemboard itself (where battery indicator light should be able to show up led for charging).

Update us how things go.

Regards

This machine has been working fine until the battery died. On purchasing a replacement and after charging I switched on the machine only to be confronted with a black screen with the icons above the keyboard flashing, then after a couple of seconds the machine re-starts with the same symptoms and continues to start-shutdown-start. I have removed the power adaptor and the battery and held down the power button for around 60 seconds without success. The reset/restore button that is located next to the power button only produces the same result when pressed.During the start-up process, NOTHING is seen on the laptop screen OR an externally connected monitor. I have also tried known good replacement RAM and hard drive and have installed a new CMOS battery but the fault persists. Can the BIOS be updated via a bootable USB flash drive without access to the screen? I seem to have a failed laptop Can anyone suggest a remedy?

Here's my sad story (I'm using a Lenovo Z580 laptop with Windows 7):

On Tues, 11/11/14 I installed all of the critical & important Windows Updates along with 2 additional updates (I don't recall what the additional ones were for).

After the updates completed I rebooted the machine, but the display did not come on. The lights and fan came on, but no display. I rebooted 3 or 4 more times and nothing changed. I plugged an external monitor into the laptop but got no display on either screen. From there I spent an hour or so powering the machine completely down, removing the battery, then rebooting while trying to enter either Safe Mode with F8 or the BIOS with F2 but each time I did the computer did not respond. A friend suggested removing and replacing the CMOS battery. I did that, put the machine back together, but now when I push the power button the lights and fan come on for about 1 second, go off for about 8 seconds, and that cycle (1 second on, 8 seconds off) repeats until I remove the battery. I did put back the original CMOS battery and the same thing continues to happen.

I've gone all over the internet for the past 2 days looking for suggestions and nothing I've found or done is resolving the issue.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Right now I've got a brick, so I'm pretty willing to try anything.

Steve

I've tried everything suggested on the Microsoft Win 10 site without succcess. Many thanks in anticipation!

Hi everybody, I saw many of problems like mine there, but I can't still do anything after several attempts to solve that.  It started two weeks ago.. I did cleaned my hdd, then to keep my device lil a bit update I have updated few drivers. First day, it was able to boot up after 10-15 attempts. (Holding down the power button, disc. battery, ac, reconnect and power button again). Since that time I was unable to get to the BIOS, set Boot order, and I couldn't see even the splash screen. Several days it did the same and the attempts grew up.  Last time it was able to launch, its about 4 days ago, I was watching, film then I felt asleep. When I woke up in the morning, the screen wasn't black but still slighty light(not off, fans were working, cooler was fine). Since that moment I couldn't boot it anymore. I tried reseting CMOS battery, tried to flash bios by using flash disk and Fn+R (laptop did different thing but after 15secs it has turned off).. I think it is frozen BIOS but I haven't clue what to do when I can't simply set the boot order.  Maybe I am wrong and the problem is only in the motherboard. Novo button works but everything I choose there, it ending by black screen again.  Thanks for help, maybe for any solutions how to fix this. I am prepared to buy another motherboard, but if I would be able to repair it on my own, I would happy. Thanks,Jakub.

I've recently been having issues with both my wireless adapter and the cooling fan in my Z580. I upgraded to Windows 10 about 1 year ago. My fan does not seem to work at all, I can't hear it and the laptop climbs to very high temperatures. More recently the Wifi has been disconnecting and my router disapears from the list. Switching on and off the computer helps 80% of the time. I'm not exactly sure of where to start to try and resolve this.

Lenovo z580 I5 6gb ram, 1tb GFT hdd win 8/64 - 18 months old. System is excruciatingly slow, all works but not in a manner that is usable.

I have exhausted my knowledge as to what the issue is. What I have tried:

Usual safe boot, remove AV, Java, combofix, rootkit checks, chkdsk, sfc, seatools long check, reseated hdd,
in place repair. Troubleshooter indicated no problems. Non solved the issue.

I even sent away for the Lenovo win8/64 re-install disks - took 8 hours to get the system re-installed, but still the same (patience is a virtue!).

After going back to manufacturer settings, I am coming down to hardware problems - in 12 years never had a processor issue - Seatools did not give me errors. although I am leaning to this as the source of the issue. Is there any other issue eg motherboard? Is there a way I can pin-point the issue without going out and buying more unnecessary replacement parts?

Please advise

A:Lenovo z580 very slow (15 minutes to boot)

Try removing half the ram then test. If still slow, swap ram and test again.

6GB is an odd number for ram. What mix of memory modules do you have?

Hello all! I have a IdeaPad notebook that is approximately 6 years old and that I purchased from a friend several years ago. It came stock with a standard 5400 RPM HDD with Windows 8 on it, and I last night purchased a Intel 545s SSD (standard SATA connection) to install in the machine and install Windows 10 on it. It is a brand new SSD with nothing on it. When the Windows installation wizard gets to the point it asks me where I want to install Windows to, I get nothing in the window at all, and the SSD does not appear to be recognized in BIOS. Am I doing something wrong on my end, or is the SSD not compatible with this model of IdeaPad?

Hi guys,

I sold my desktop a few days ago,and was looking for a laptop to go with mainly for gaming and and recording music.

I was looking at the Z580 Lenovo laptop http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834310630

It's pretty much sold me at this point, but maybe some of you know of a better deal with more performance in that same price range of 575$... I might do 700$ but it will have to dust the Z580 for me to pay out 125 $ more.

So will the Z580 i5 GT635m be my bang for my buck,or do you guys know of a better deal ?.

Also let's say later on I wanted to upgrade the GPU,and the HDD could I do that ?. Could I upgrade to a SSD ?. etc.

Thank you all are always a huge help !.

I've waited a long time before installing Win 10 on my IdeaPad Z580, but was finally persuaded to try it out with a complete clean install. Thankfully, after a few teething troubles, it now works fine, except for one thing - the camera. I can't find a driver for EasyCam with Win 10 on the Lenovo site, so before I commit to buying a separate camera I would like to ask if anyone has any suggestions for solving this problem so I can use Skype properly. I've tried everything suggested on the Microsoft Win 10 site without succcess. Many thanks in anticipation!
