Any news about the Comet-lake X1 Carbons?

Q: Any news about the Comet-lake X1 Carbons?

So I desperately need a new laptop and I really want to get an X1 Carbon. Now I realize there aren't many of us on here with a glass ball but I'm hoping somebody knows more than I do. Is there any hope that the upgraded 7th Gen X1 Carbons with Comet Lake CPUs will become available in October as announced? or am I more likely to still be waiting by Christmas? I tried talking to a Lenovo rep but his lips were sealed.

Preferred Solution: Any news about the Comet-lake X1 Carbons?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, after all these delays in release and shipment, my P53 is shipped. However, I read that some new Thinkpads will get Comet Lake CPU upgrade. Will this also happen to P53? Looks like after waiting for months, some of us may get a laptop that is out of date already before arrival.

A:Will P53 get Comet Lake CPU?

You are missing something basic.  The new Comet Lake CPUs are all the low power (15-watt TDP) processors.  In recent years, the more powerful H series CPUs, like in the P53, have been coming out more than 6 months after the low-power ones.  If you look several months in the future,, there is always a new one coming and whatever you get will be out-of-date soon.

I have noted the above news item.  One of the links is here.
I would be grateful if someone could advise if  this affects Dell computers and, if so, how and when will a fix be issued.
Any information would be appreciated.

A:News item "Major Hyper-Threading Flaw Destabilizes Intel Kaby Lake, Skylake CPUs"

If your Dell computer has a Skylake or Kaby Lake CPU it is affected. I am also interested in how this issue will be addressed whether through a Windows 10 microcode update or a BIOS/UEFI update. IF you have a Kaby Lake CPU and the update is a microcode update to Windows you may be out of luck if you don't have Windows 10.

In the News app, personalized news can be setup by entering a search string. These are created under Topics.

Does anyone know what filter to add to have the results restricted by date (as only items for the last week) or to change the results filter to "most recent" rather than "best match". These are capabilities of Bing when searching in News on the web. So I thought they could be achieved in the News App as well. Other filters (like domain: ) work when added to the search terms. I don't know whether there is similar filter term for restricting the date of items displayed.

Thanks.

do you guys know why bit comet doesnt run fast and keeps on crashing, also emule doesnt show any kad network servers at all. i'm running vista.

A:bit comet

i'm running vista i don't get any emule kad servers showing, my downloads are so slow they take days to complete and i'm not downloading obscure stuff, with no peers. some items have 1000+ connecting but nothing actually connects all settings support unlimeted download and upload speeds, etc... also bitcomet keeps on crashing on a regular basis. and downloads only seem to make any progress while i sleep. as far as i'm aware i don't have any viruses i just reinstalled windows vista a few days ago. i also can't seem to forward my ports even though my shaw secure (f-secure) options have been all, owing them. i even let my computer to act as an internet server for bit comet and emule to no avail. my uploads often outweigh my downloads on speed. and i signed up. whayt the hell is wrong. when i used to run bit comet in the past on another computer running xp everything was fine. that was a few months ago have things changed now so that this is a normal occurrence, i am running other torrent programs now instead but i like bit comet and if this doesnt get fixed soon i guess i'll have to uninstall bit comet and go with u torrent and fsm free download manager

Whenever I boot up my computer, some unidentifyable utility "finds" Comet Cursor and "removes" it. Then I am asked if I would like to restart my computer. Needing to get some work done, I say no, considering that when I shut it down, that will suffice. Question: Where is the Comet Cursor in the registry? It does not show up in Hijack This. Or, is the "finding" each boot up time part of an attempt for spyware to install it? My antivirus is Symantec.

This keeps coming up in the lower left corner of my screen when I am trying to use Yahoo email. When this appears my keyboard is frozen. After doing a lot of looking I have come to the conclusion that "waiting for comet" has something to do with Yahoo's advertising. I was able to get rid of it by subscribing to "Yahoo Mail Pro Subscription" however my wife's email account doesn't have the Pro subscription and she is still getting "waiting for comet" and her keyboard is freezing up just like mine did before I got the pro subscription. It looks like Yahoo is holding us hostage and causing much frustration until we pay the $3.49 for the pro subscription. In my looking around I don't see anyone else complaining about this which surprises me greatly. Am I the only one that is being held hostage?

I also posted this in "web and email" but cwwozniak suggested I post it here

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help me with this? I was surfing the net when this box appeared on the screen and it turned out that a program called 'My Comet Cursor' had installed itself on my computer. It is a program which allows you to change your mouse cursor, but it is loaded with spyware. When I ran Adaware it couldn't delete it because it had planted itself in my system tray. By using ctrl, alt + del I closed it down and went into program files and deleted it manually, but I have no idea where it came from in the first place, as I didn't download it, it just appeared. Does anyone know how this happened and how I can make sure it doesn't happen again? Thanks, Teresa.

Hi Teresa.......
That would be listed in the add/remove programs. Did you uninstall it that way ?
FYI..........To stop Comet Cursor and others from installing automatically, go to IE >Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab and UNselect "Install on Demand".

Hope this helps you.

The procedure here (which involves editing the Windows registry) will allow you to change the name: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/owner.htm

What's wrong with having comet cursor? If it is 'spyware' then is there an alternative to use?
Also what is the best way to get rid of CC?

A:What's wrong with Comet Cursor?

I guess nothing is wrong with it if you don't mind being spied on. If you want to remove it then Ad-aware should do it. http://www.lavasoft.de/ But look in add/remove programs in the control panel and see if it's there. If so uninstall it from there before running Ad-aware. If after removing it from add/remove you run Ad-aware and it finds some residuals of CC then let it clean up the rest.

Seconds later I get the pop up from Comet Cursor, that I am going to get download, and I "x" it out. Seconds later I get another request from Zone Alarm for the same thing, but 1 or 2 letters may be changed in the requester program name, but the same "CC" pop up appears. This happens when I first log on to internet, without veiwing any pages. How can I stop this annoying program?

A:Unwanted Comet Cursor downloads

You should be able to remove Comet Cursor through your add remove/programs in the Control Panel.

You could also go over to http://tomcoyote.com/lsdownloads.html and download adaware and run it. This will detect and remove comet cursor and other spyware that might be on your computer.

While you are there, also download the latest reference file for the program. After you download it, unzip it to the lavasoft folder to make sure that it has the latest update.

I am posting my log is it clean? I will run AVG and all processes again once my log is clean. I also located a freeware firewall from Zone Alarm that seems to work well. Thanks

I am not sure if my last thread posted or not. I cannot seem to get rid of these three items as identified in Panda. Spybot and Ad Aware have both been run in safe mode until all comes clean. Panda re-identifies these three items. I cannot find the file f3install.. etc. as identified in the scan. It does not seem to exist. (I have enabled viewing of both system and hidden files but still cannot find it.) I deleted one registry key as identified in the scan but the next time I ran the scan a new key was identified. I disabled all startup items using msconfig because otherwise I cannot access the internet. I am including both the activescan (panda) log file and HJT logfile. Thanks for any assistance. Also, please email me with information about malware boot camp. I would like to be able to help others as well as myself.

Thanks, THfixit

Managed to find Dark Comet RAT after using their own remover, svchost.exe seems to be still infected. Mouse moves by itself at times. Being on older XP I can easily tell when cpu hits 100 percent etc randomly. Couldn't find much from the scans I did mbam, sas, tdass, infestedcleaner, and a ton of others but i can rescan and post logs for you to look at.

Hey everyone I'm looking at my friend's computer. At the moment it can't even boot into Windows normally, only safe mode with networking. I've tried scanning with Spybot and removing these but it still won't correctly boot so I reverted the removals I did - however it still won't boot. I'm not sure if it was able to boot normally before because apparently files were in quarantine with some program she was using and she removed the software and everything came flooding back, at which point I restarted and went directly to safe mode and tried removing all this stuff with Spybot. Then I found out I couldn't get into a normal XP boot anymore. So I'm turning to you guys for help. Thanks in advance, here's my HJT log:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 2:48:55 PM, on 10/28/2008Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.20900)Boot mode: Safe mode with network supportRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SpybotSD.exeC:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exeC:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exeR1 - HKLM\Software\Micr... Using Norton Security Scan (free version) the last 2 months or so I get this error:

Infection:
c:\windows\system32\comet.dll
Registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search->SearchAssistant:http://ie.search.msn.com/{SUB_RFC1766}/srchasst/srchasst.htm
Browser Cache

I have no performance problems that I can detect, Is this a real problem or is Norton 'fishing' for dollars?

My HJT log shows nothing, except some traces of an old Handy Backup program I thought I had deleted, which has been there for 3 years or so, a different problem I'm sure. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks.

Joe

A:Solved: Norton scan shows comet.dll infection - real problem?

I fixed the comet.dll problem myself, just deleted the file and the registry entry. Norton now says I am clean. I think they must have been left from a Realplayer 7 or some other application that I recently removed.

I donated $20 and despite receiving no replies I don't regret it. It looks like most people had worse problems than I did, many of them had nobody replying either. The demand for free services exceeds the supply by a long shot.

I read one of the posts on a different problem from JSntgRvr who appears to be very knowledgeable, got some good suggestions on general system practice from his replies to Severcool. With helpers like him, nobody could go wrong.
