but still the issue

Preferred Solution: Dell Inspirion 3148 keyboard (left side keys like 1, Q, A, Z, Caps Lock) keys are not functioning)

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Dell Inspirion 3148 keyboard (left side keys like 1, Q, A, Z, Caps Lock) keys are not functioning)

I'm assuming you have windows 10 on the system.....
I'd suggest you check Sticky keys in control panel. You might have mistakenly turn it on.
At the left bottom of taskbar, right click windows icon, click on Control Panel, Ease Of Access, and then Change How Your Keyboard Works. If there's a check mark in box - Turn on Sticky keys) then uncheck it and click Apply.

I have a ThinkPad P71. After I cleaned the keys of my keyboard, some of them stop working. Especially, win key. Every time I press Win + D, it is typing the letter D. I remove the keyboard languages, and I reinstalled, but the problem persisted. Also, the left shift is not working. The caps lock is not working either. The on-screen keyboard is working fine. I created another user, and the problem persisted. Any suggestion?

Hello, I am hoping someone could help me with this issue. I am not sure if I am posting in the right section of the forum so forgive me if i am not. I am using a compaq laptop with windows 7 for an OS. The G, H, 8, and backspace keys decided to stop working. For some reason the only way to get any of those buttons to work is if you put on CAPS lock and hold shift. Then you can use those keys. Im not sure if any other keys have been affected as of yet. Ive tried to google for a solution, which normally helps me fix any computer issues I come accross. So far I can only find the reccomendation to hold the function button and press numlock, and its supposed to remove the, "sticky keys." I am not quite sure what exactly the sticky keys are but I didnt think it was the problem here, and the laptop doesnt seem to have a function button anyways. I have seen the option to turn on sticky keys when holding shift on other computers or tapping shift 8 times, I dont know if it was turned on or if sticky keys cause certain keys to not work unless you hold shift while CAPS lock is on, but if this sounds like something you can help with please advise me of any suggestions. I appreciate any time you take to help or even if youve read this far. Thank you

A:Certain keyboard keys not working unless you press caps lock and hold shift?

First thing you do is get a canned air and clean out the keyboard... slowly, carefully, then do it again with the laptop upside down. That rules out the most common cause... dirt, dust, and debris.

Is there any liquid spillage / physical damage on the system? Does an external keyboard work fine on the system? Are the specified keys not working at all or do they work intermittently?
You could contact our Dell Reseller in your country and get the system serviced. If there is no warranty, it would be a paid service call - check your reseller options here - http://bit.ly/1OaGai4
Write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.

I like to keep Num Lock on all the time but the light on the key is slightly annoying. Is there any way to turn off the light? Thanks

A:Can you turn off the key notification light on the Caps lock, Num lock and Power keys?

Hi Lenovofan2a,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
The numlock LED is electrically connected in the machine level as indicator of the enable feature.
It would remain lit as long as you need to use the numlock active.
Maybe a non transparent sticker would be a simple fix.

I got this new Dell Inspiron 7568 about a week ago. Since I got it the up and left keys have not worked together. They work individually but not together. This does is not isolated to my computer, the display computer at Best Buy also had this issue. This is a big problem because I need those keys in order to test my programs. I have looked in many places some say it is a problem with the bios other say with the drives and others say with the hardware.
I have already tried calling technical support and they could not do anything about it. This is not the first post regarding this problem: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19679981 (slightly different model). My last computer was also a Dell Inspiron but an older model and it did not have this problem.

I have an HP Pavilion Laptop that is about 2 years old. I usually keep it in Hibernate mode but last night I shut it down totally and this morning woke up and the Caps lock and Num lock keys are blinking. Any clues as to what the problem is? All led lights on top are lit. Screen does not come up at all. I am going to try the hard reset to see if that is the problem. Any ideas would help.

Hi, Welcome to TSG forums!
You might try booting it into safe mode....while computer is booting, continously tap the F8 key. This should open it in safe mode. If it does, use the arrow keys to move up to 'last known good configuration' click on enter, let the machine do its thing.

A little earlier today our caps lock keys seemed to be reversed. When I pressed Caps Lock, I got lower case. When it was unactivated, I got all upper case. Now it is not doing that anymore. What could have caused it? How do I fix it if it happens again? My son and husband play computer games a lot that require hitting lots of keys. Could that have done it?

Also, I don't know if it is related, but when I was checking my e-mail, instead of replacing the window already open, when I clicked on mail it opened a new window. A new window was opened for every e-mail I opened also.

Thanks so much. You guys are great.

A:Caps Lock Keys Reversed

My son and husband play computer games a lot that require hitting lots of keys. Could that have done it?Possibly. Plokta (pressing a lot of keys to abort) can cause all sorts of strange things. Check to see if sticky keys are or have been enabled.

This started from me closing my on screen keyboard with caps lock activated.

On march 27, most of my keys(b, n, caps lock, delete, 7(numpad), f1, f8, f12, \, =) have stopped working all at the same time without me doing anything that day.

Yesterday is when my caps lock started to out act of control. just from me closing the on screen keyboard, I accidentally clicked caps lock and closed it.

Since it doesn't work, it still flashes on and off. I used malwarebytes and did all 3 scans but nothing was found.

I disabled the key two times, with keytweaker and manual. If I were to hold down on any key like backspace or a letter, it won't spam across the thread or anywhere I type on. This would mean that caps lock is affecting my keys
even when disabled.

It won't capitalize everything which is what I want but it still activates and stops my keys from working.

I'm having problems with my keyboard again. The Caps Lock key (dim) light remains on and the following keys are not working: 2 @ w s x and the one on the right next to Alt. I think you should try re-seating the keyboard's cable to the motherboard.

You would have to remove the keyboard to do it

Can you recall if that's what you did last time ?

I bought this notebook at the end of may 2016 but didn't really start using it till August. A couple days ago my shift keys and caps lock keys started acting funny. When you press the left shift key something like ZXCM> come up. The caps lock is permanately on. In order to type things not in caps, you have to turn on the caps lock key so the light is on (caps is backwards). When you push the right shift key something like QEUORY something comes up and then everything gets highlighted on the screen and if a window is open you are not able to close it. I have antivirus and there is no virus present. I have done a factory reset to see if it was a possible software issue and still the problem persists. I brought the laptop back to Sam's and they told me I have to contact the manufacturer. I have not dropped it or spilled anything on it. This whole situation is really bizarre. I am very frustrated. Hello All,
This is not really a request for fix assistance, since I've already fixed the problem, but I wanted to see if someone could explain how the now fixed issue came to be.
I work with individuals who are visually-impaired or blind to teach them how to use their computers with assistive technology such as screen readers and magnifiers (most commonly JAWS and ZoomText but there are others).
One of my current clients has an HP laptop that is hooked to a large-screen TV via HDMI and who's also using an external keyboard and mouse when he's at his desk.  On Friday, there was an accident where several heavy objects were dropped and hit both the external keyboard and mouse, but not the computer.  Subsequent testing shows neither the mouse nor the external keyboard were damaged.  The laptop itself was untouched during this incident.  The client had believed that the keyboard and/or mouse were damaged, and acquired a bluetooth portable keyboard and mouse, but the behavior I'm about to describe for the keyboard occurred on the laptop's built-in keyboard, the external wired keyboard, and the external bluetooth keyboard:
            1.  Caps Lock was absolutely locked.  Nothing would unlock it, including fiddling with input method settings to switch the caps lock on/off to the Shift key rather than shift loc... Read more

Win 7 Pro 64-bit at the office with lots of security.
Suddenly, there is no beep when toggling Caps Lock or Num Lock.  One advanced user is GOING CRAZY WITH UN-WARNED CAPS LOCK.

Yes, we've gone into Ease of Access Center and unchecked and rechecked "Turn on Toggle Keys" and even others on that page, but no luck.
This started when we focused on a different problem and had turned off then turned back on a bunch of services.
Questions -

What services, files, dlls, etc. run that Caps Lock beep?Might it even be a Control Panel .cpl file, as it used to be in XP?  Which one?  (In XP, was access.cpl. but that does not exist in 7.)
Should we disable and re-enable the two sound entries in Device Manager?  (Recently, we disabled and re-enabled one of them, but no help.)Might any recent updates have killed the beep?  (MS - shame on you!)  Which ones? Why is this happening to me?

I own a Dell Inspiron 17 5767 laptop, and have encountered the a problem as shown in the image below:
When I press the left alt key on the laptop, it activates multiple keys, including the F4 key, and forces the windows that I've opened to close. This is not due to other keys being stuck, since I've tried the on-screen keyboard, on which the left alt key works perfectly. The right alt key works as it's supposed to.
I also tried the left alt key in safe mode, which still malfunctions as shown here.
Is this due to corrupted registry? Any suggestions?

At times I've noted the prob shifts to other some other key the next day or it doesn't have any prob at all. Its been all strange

I would like to know what might be the reason for this odd behavior ? Do u think laptop getting hot might be a reason for that or working for longer hours ? I've Laptop Cooler always on, never turn it off.

Hi goodlad,

You should try an external keyboard with the system. If external keyboard works fine then you should consider replacing the internal keyboard.

As due to usage and time keys stops responding. However if the similar issue occurs with the external keyboard then it might be a software related issue.

Hello! A couple of days ago I spilled cereal on my laptop and the screen went black and stopped working. I freaked out and didn't know what to do so I tried wiping it off then got advice to put in rice. I didn't know that I had to turn the laptop off at first so I think the motherboard might have gotten fried in that time it was on
Anyway I turned the laptop off after a while, and today when I turned it on it actually started working and the screen wasn't black so I thought it was all okay

But then When I started typing, the letters would come out differently
For example "D" would be "FSDA" and "Q" would be RWQEU and some letters weren't even working. What's wrong with it? Is it possible that the motherboard is fried or?

Not sure it's normal behaviour or problem related to software.---------------------------It happens like this: When I hold UP + LEFT arrow, Spacebar locks up unless I release either UP or LEFT key. But that didn't happen when I hold UP + RIGHT. Also, when holding UP + DOWN, these keys went locked: Q,W,E,R,U,I,O,P If I holds down W + S, these keys locks up (includes 8 keys from UP + DOWN): A,S,D,F,J,K,L,; For S + X, it locks everything in that row except B,N. Which means if you try to hold two keys from different rows, it locks everything in that row except two centered keys. Unaffected keys: 5,6,T,Y,G,H,B,N. (Tested on alphabets & numbers. Numpad keys excluded.) Any software fix or tweaks can unlocks these keys? Since it's obstrcuting me quite a lot when gaming.

Fact is that if the NUM LOCK is enabled (FN +F11) then the buttons; U, I, O, J, K, L and M become to numbers:
U to 4
I to 5
O to 6
J to 1
K to 2

M to 0

This is an odd issue that I have not found anyone else having. I am not sure as to the cause of it.

Basically, when I press certain pairs of keys, the computer acts as though another key is being pressed as well.
Some examples:
q+s: qws
w+d: wed
r+y: ryu
k+u: kui
l+i: lio

There are others, as well as ones with 3 keys triggering a fourth. They follow no general pattern (although wd, qs, ku, and li are the same pattern
on the keyboard, that pattern doesn't cause a similar response on other keys, like ef, rg, th, yj, etc.)

This problem has persisted as long as I have had this laptop. I got it used on Amazon. It said that, in terms of condition, it just had a few minor
scratches and such, which is accurate.

This occurs every time the keys are pressed at the same time (in fact, while typing this, I was constantly having to correct typos such as "everyu",
"lioke",  and "whiole".)

Hi, Try the following. Download the AMD HD Graphics installer on the following link and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp74501-75000/sp74716.exe When done, open your Downloads folder, right click the AMD Graphics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Start the notebook and let Windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

Hey guys,

I'm having a really big problem with my keyboard. I'm running windows 7. The problem started about four days ago, I've searched for various ways to solve this problem but I couldn't find any.

The issue is that randomly, my keyboard will stop typing keys and every time I hit a key, instead of typing a key, it would act as if I was hitting a shortcut. Such as, when it happens i hit the "F" key and the tools options come up. This happens on every windows even on MSN messenger, I hit my keys and it hits shortcut keys for the window I'm on.

I would be using my computer for a while and the keys would work fine but then a little later, somethings 30 minutes sometimes an hour or two, randomly they turn into shortcut keys. Every key i hit, I tried a new keyboard but it seems to happen also. I don't get the issue, I've scanned fully using malwareBytes, MCAffee, and Advanced system pro, but it's still happening. It's really frustrating and annoying when it does happen. I've turned my keyboard off and on, re sync'd. I'm starting to lean more towards it being a virus or something that messed with my settings somehow.

Malwayre Bytes did find something while scanning

files\Spigot\wtxpcom\components\widgitoolbarff.dll (Adware.WidgiToolbar) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

I'm really stumped here, I haven't tried un-installing my keyboard & re installing it but Idk what good t... Read more

I would also like to add that, when this occurs. I have to restart my computer for the keyboard to work correctly. It's wireless & I've tried a wired keyboard also, it's the same issue.

Also when this happens, while on the internet. Every time I click a link or the internet like "home" "news" anything at all on the internet even an image, it won't go to it but instead it will download the data into my computer... It's very strange & I'm completely stumped on what to do. Or to even search this on google for other similar issues, I don't even know how I would go around to search that. Or what I would type in the search bar. This happens with both Firefox & google chrome. Even outside the internet in just my desktop, it's impossible to type even on notepad.

I've been having this issue for a while, when I turn on the num lock key there is usually an indicator on the right hand side of the screen saying its on it works but there's no indicator on the screen, same with the caps lock, and the f1 keys for what they do no color bar adjusting will appear but they will work is there a way to fix this I've tried the regedit keyboard set value to 2 and stuff that never worked.

They do  come  and go sometimes. After I sprayed some air to try to clear dust and crumbs it worked for a lil while but then started back. I do still see dust and will keep cleaning. Sometimes the keys are slow to respond or not work at all. It was working fine til a couple days ago. I even reinstalled the operating systems and still doing this. All the rest of the keys work fine except for a few in that row. I dont know if it was a update that caused this or a hardware problem but id like to get it working right agaln.

Type in keyboard in the search box on lower right. You'll have to go thru the list to find the right one for your system.
