I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have an HP notebook running on Windows 8.1
I wanted to check for driver updates so I went to the AMD website
I downloaded an autodetect software and it suggested I download an AMD Catylist Omega 14.12 without dotnet45
I have AMD Radeon HD 8650 + 8600/8700M Dual Graphics with its drivers (presumably up to date)
Should I install that driver? and if yes how do I go about doing it without f***ing up my PC?
Thanks in advance!

What's the deal with the latest Catalyst drivers? I just installed 4.8, and I would get a black mask over the image in PowerDVD, and Fullscreen in WMP9 when watching DVDs from my Virtual Drive. You can hear the movie playing and all, so that's not the issue.

I uninstalled them, and put back 4.6, and they play fine.

Is this some sort of protection/encryption system? If not, is this some sort of driver problem?

How stupid. (If its the former)

Hi there, today i was trying to configure a monitor to work with both my xbox and my pc, i essentially got it working, changed over to my pc and started configuring catalyst control center, i was changing display settings and i think i ticked "if display is not detected switch to tv input"(or something along those lines), i tried switching cables for the computer, it did not work so i plugged back in and the display was bugged. I restarted the machine and it started up as normal until it got to the user profile choice ( I'm on Vista). The screen never came up and just stayed black, my monitor was still detecting an input though. I went into safe mode to see if i could change the setting but the drivers don't start up because it is in safe mode so i cannot start up ccc.exe. So i am stuck in safe mode, is there anyway to edit the setting for ccc.exe?

Hey all!

I recently re-installed Windows Vista and all my drivers are in place. Everything works just fine. But I recently noticed that this new Catalyst 11.7 version doesn't seem to have the HydraVision component. I think I had like version 11.5 or something prior to re-installing Vista, and I did have this component back then. What has changed since then?

I fear that they have discontinued HydraVision and that it will no longer be included in Catalyst software. Could this be true? What do you think? Any thought? Ideas? Do I really have to go back to a previous and version of Catalyst just to get HydraVision?

HydraGrid offers the same kind of flexibility that you would see in Windows 7 when working with windows (note: not "Windows", but "windows"). This is great for me because I don't have Windows 7, and I don't want to upgrade just to get a substitute for this feature.

Thanks in advance!

Hello all.
Yesterday i felt it was time to update my ATI graphics drivers, 'cause i saw that i didn't have catalyst installed.
So i went to their site, filled in the form, downloaded Catalyst Suite.
I closed all unnecessary applications.
I opened the installer, just hit ok, next and express install on everything.
Watched tv for about an hour, got back and it was stuck (installing animation still running, ads still switching, but no progress).
I stayed and watched for about 15 minutes to make sure, but still no progress...

Here's an (edited) screenshot:
Hope someone can tell me how to get the installer working,
while writing this im at the second try, running about 2 hours now, still nothing.

A:Solved: Catalyst Monitor Control Center

Well the CCC or Catalyst Control Center is your graphics card control and adjustment software. So the name isn't exactly right unless that's been changed or its only a small module of the CCC.
Is there anything in the tray that has a ATI symbol or if you right click on the desktop do you see a Catalyst Control Center line in the context menu or in the Start/Programs list?

If you find it in one of those places you can see if it will start or if you get some more error messages.

I have a brand new (2 day old) PC, (specs are in my profile if you need them) so obviously one of the very first things I did was to install all of Window's Updates ... and I installed an optional update named: "ATI Technologies Inc. - Display - ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics".

At which point at every reboot I now get the following warning message:

I've read from older threads online it may be because .NET Framework isn't installed (yet), is it still dependent on that?

What's the best way to proceed? When it comes to hardware I don't have much experience, so help is greatly appreciated.

The problem is that the monitor makes the colors look just a tad bit too rich, it seems like the digital vibrance needs to come down a bit, but the catalyst drivers i use only allow gama, brightness, and contrast adjustments.
Anyone know how i can edit the color thru a 3rd party program perhaps? by the way the monitor is a Gateway 24" Widescreen Flat-Panel TFT-LCD HD Monitor

Firstly, I googled it and I can't find a solution for my problem.

Before re-installing the Windows there is no problem. It works fine.
After re-installing Windows XP, I installed just the CD of the graphic card HD3450. After the install when I try to open Catalyst Control Center, i got this message: "Could not load file or assembly 'MOM.Implementation' or one of its components.
After this, I downloaded and installed the latest version of the driver and CCC. Now I start Catalyst Control Center and nothing happens. No error message. I tried them to uninstall and reinstall many times but it didn't solve the problem.

I've been having problems with random freezing/resetting and found a solution on experts-exchange which involved reverting to an older version of Radeon catalyst, in this case, 7.6. I had 8.3 which I uninstalled through the add/remove programs, rebooted, then ran the .exe for the older version (7.5) and rebooted. However, when I checked if to make sure 7.5 was installed, it said in device manager and add/remove that the version is still 8.3. I had run the 7.5 version from the .exe and verified it was the correct driver so I am confused as to why it is telling me I still have 8.3.

Any clues?

Thanks

There was probably more ATI software still installed, you needed to go back to add/remove programs and look for more ati software to uninstall. take a look at the link below for instructions on how to remove ati software. hope this helps.

goto the link below and look under most popular topics and click on removing old ati software.

I'm having an ongoing fight with an infestaion of worms and malware that started about three weeks ago. To cut a long tale short, I've followed all the advice on this site and cleaned up my XP system to the point where it appears almost clean. The original symptom still persists, however. My cable modem connection is lost after what seems an arbitrary period of time. When I try to repair the connection an error message eventually appears saying "The following steps of the repair operation failed: Renaming the IP address."
At this point, Spybot finds CoolWWWsearch.msconfig, but CWShredder doesn't find it.

The following procedure gets the Internet connection re-established.
1. Shut down the computer. (Occasionally a message appears about Other users on the system-there shouldn't be any).
2. Unplug cable modem.
3. Boot up computer from power-on.
4. Plug in cable modem.
5. In XP open web browser (IE 6).

Now the connection is OK, but opening the web browser loads CWS.msconfig again.SpyBot has the additional info
IE Context menu item Hkey_users\S-1-5-21-5079....

How can I get cws out of the registry, and more to the point keep it out? Why is CWShredder failing? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Greetings,

I am opening this thread really as a last resort after googling about 10 different searches and visiting more than 30(!) pages of other topics concerning my problem, something that took approx. 6 hours. This just goes to show how helpless I feel currently.

Let's start from the beginning, and please do read everything. Several days ago when I restarted the computer (just because it was a bit sluggish as usual I think, due to a long session) I noticed that every task ever since became a chore for the computer in general, and more specifically - copying/pasting, using any program of any sort, and the most frustrating - installing new programs. For example: installing a video-game took me 2 hours.

I decided to do a good clean-up for the whole system. I went through many sites suggesting all sorts of optional fixes. In short I first did the more general methods like a virus scan multiple times and TuneUp Utilities which is good for pretty much everything; then I used software like Spybot for spyware/adware/malware, registry-cleaning programs like RegSupreme/CCleaner/Eusing/RegCure, and finally Auslogics Disk Defrag, which analyzed my disk as being quite fragmented (a fact I found weird since up until then I used the Windows Defrag to analyze at least once a month and it didn't say a defrag is required at all every single time...). I defragged about 5 times because it was still quite red and even used the Windows one.

All those did make my comp faster (li... Read more

That often happens when a video driver is not correctly installed.

To install, remove ALL of the old ati software. Reboot and cancel any found new hardware wiz. Now run the driver install .exe file.

Did you attempt to install a driver over an existing driver or are you swapping cards ie from nvidia>ati?

I am using windows 7 ultimate 32bits, and catalyst 9.4 (the latest version), and my graphics card is like i said ati radeon hd 4350. The resolution i am using is 1152x864 75hz. I would like to clone/duplicate the current display i have to show in my old crt tv, using a s-video cable, but catalyst never allows me, everytime i try it says that operation isn't supported based on current display configuration and says absolutly nothing else more specific (it says to go to help but i found nothing related to this in there). I have also tried switching the desktop to 1024x768 and 60hz and absolutly nothing changes it STILL doesn't allow clone mode, i don't know what i am doing wrong. The svideo cable isn't the problem as well since i have tried two cables already and they were functioning ok with other devices so i am sure it's not a problem of the svideo cable or the tv itself.

But in replace mode, tv out seems to work ok (even tough it's black and white, but that i can fix later) it only works a single display at a time, even tough i am ONLY using the vga connector in my graphics card and the svideo connector, i am NOT using the dvi connector at all! (and that's all the three connectors that this card has)

I really need is how to activate the duplicate mode because only having the desktop in the tv OR the pc screen isn't usefull to me, i really need the same desktop showing in both displays at the same time, i hope this is possible on win... Read more

Hi -

Are you dual boot XP & Vista Ultimate?
Which is OEM?
Is Vista an upgrade from XP?

What "new OS" did someone try to install.. Windows 7?

Assuming hardware platform is stable, the problems you are having with Vista are related to the lack of SP's - you are running the original January 2007 version of Vista and need to update with SP1, then SP2.

I would advise that you wipe the entire HDD with KillDisk and reinstall Vista using the OEM recovery DVDs that came with the system. Then allow all Windows Updates and driver updates in.

KillDisk --> http://jcgriff2.com/killdisk_imgburn.html

For info, Vista SP1 & SP2 info --> http://jcgriff2.com/0x1/Vista_SP_Prepwork.html

Hi All,

Am having some problems with a BT HomeHub wireless connection.
The network was working fine until a few days ago, when we had a series of power-cuts.

The internet connection is working fine when wired, but none of the computers in the house seem to be able to connect to the wireless network.

When scanning for wireless networks, sometimes it finds it and sometimes it doesn't. The furthest it gets on one of the PCs is 'acquiring network address', but it doesn't stay like this and doesn't do this everytime.

I have tried resetting the box and all the usual stuff, also spoke to BT who were useless and blamed it on my computer. I don't think it is a computer issue though, as it seems unlikely that three windows laptops, my macbook and a desktop have all broken in the week.

Have seen a few similar posts online but no real solution, does anyone have any ideas?

Much appreciated if so.
Thanks a lot,

Tom.

Well, since this clearly seems to be a common point of failure, I'd start at the router.

Some things you can try here, listed in the order you should try them.
For wireless connections, remove all the stored wireless profiles and search for networks. You'll have to enter the encryption key again, which is sometimes the issue for connection problems.
For wireless connections, change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US. For other countries, keep the channels spaced so there is at least three unused channels between you and other active wireless networks if possible.
For wireless connections, try moving either the wireless router/AP or the wireless computer. Even a couple of feet will sometimes make a big difference.
Update the network drivers (wired and wireless) on your computer to the latest available.
Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.

Hi all,

I have a pretty ordinary system, AMD Sempron 3400+, 1GB ... and crucially 2 x Hitachi PATA drives that live in removable caddies, connected by high quality PATA cables (not kinked !) and a overrated PSU.

Very long story short, reconfigured system, upgraded OS etc, BIOS switched drives to UDMA6 (Note I didn't push them, they auto configured) with 50 -60MB/Sec ... I was so so pleased

So pleased that is until my system corrupted almost every file on the HDD, looking at the logs I had quite a few ...

media error (blank): status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
media error (blank): error=0x80 { LastFailedSense=0x08 }

sprinkled around ... gulp

OK so re-install, same prob, re-install, try and control UDMA level via BIOS,
Selecting any UDMA level results in UDMA6 and bye bye system, switched to multiwordDMA, which is what I am running as now and all is well, drives report that they are now at UDMA2 (don't get that - would have thought that should be mdma2)

Anyway, system is stable.

Anybody any idea what is happening ?
Is it because I am running the HDDs in caddies with the extra connectors / cables ?
Or is it something to do with Hitachi drives ?
All not helped by a c*** BIOS

I would love to solve this problem, 20MB/Sec is OK but a bit sluggish, what do you guys run at ?

Any help much appreciated ?

Cheers

Dave

I have tried every type of fix , adaware, cws shredder, spybot - you name it I've tried it and nothing rids me of errorplace.com.

Whenever I try to get on this site in Internet Explorer I automatically get redirected to erroplace.com and it automatically starts installing Roings componants and my pc is infected immediately. I will then run AVG, spybot, adaware, Hijack this etc but it still redirects.

I've been using Netscape to browse on here to see if anybody else has this problem.

Hopefully someone can see in my HJT log just what it is that is causing this nightmare.

I've been reading through some of the forum correspondance regarding this GTGina.dll file which, apparently, has to do with Linksys or some other wireless system. Here's where I'm at: I used UNLOCKER to release the dll in the \Windows\System32 folder and deleted it. I tried initially to just remove the registry entry but XP wouldn't let me run REGEDIT. Now, as some of you may have experienced... the system won't log on without that dll file. My only choice is to restart. I need to somehow get back into the system and remove this pest without screwing up my ability to log into Windows, AND return my XP log on screen to a regular XP log on screen. Any suggestions out there? Thanks!

A:Solved: GTGina.dll NIGHTMARE!

Okay, I got in. In safe mode, although it now appears that I can find it, I couldn't see REGEDIT but found REGEDT32 and ran that which let me into the registry. Once in, I deleted the GTGina.dll file from HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon and also unchecked anything unnecessary or questionable under the STARTUP tab in MSCONFIG. I'm currently running in Selective Mode but now I'm in. If I find anything additional that's important to mention, I'll post it.

Does not matter how much I clean and delete. Once I get back on the net it overwhelms my computer. I have always had good virus protection, Spyware Killer, pop-up blocker and now even Spyhunter. Kinda running out of options.

Greets, all:

For certain, I am infected with the malware/trojan WinLogon.exe.. or at least that's my best guess after researching the problem on various sites including TechGuy.org. My problem seems very close to what other people that were caught by this one.

To compound my problems, I believe I'm totally responsible for not only infecting the PC with the log shown below, but another one as well. The last "strange" thing I remember occurring was a quick popup for an ActiveX control (in my browser, IE6) installation request for something called "Log Me In". I pressed 'OK' without thinking on both PCs. What a drag. Now I'm getting very, VERY sluggish PC response and random lockups where shutting off (via the PC's power button) is the only way of rebooting.

ANY help would be more than appreciated.

Hi everyone! New to this site, in desparate need of some help.
So i recently wiped my system and started fresh on windows 7 X64, and have had networking issues ever since.
Im using a Belkin N750 wireless usb adapter, and i always have 4/5 -5/5 signal bars.
I can connect to the network, and it shows internet access, but when I try to load web pages it takes a EXTREMELY Long time, if it even works at all.
I ran speedtest.net, and I get around 40-50 Ping, 4-5Mbps Down and 1mb UP.
When I try to play counterstrike online its almost impossible due to so much lag, and my latency is usually 60-75...
I have a laptop right next to the computer with the problem, and it loads pages fine and downloads at around 2mbps, on the same network...
Things ive tried**
*Tcp/Ip Stack Fix
*Entering Ip settings manually
*Uninstalling and reinstalling Belkin usb network adapter
*And a few other suggestions through the elevated cmd (cannot rememer the cmmands)

Heres the website I used SpeedGuide.net :: Windows 7, Vista, 2008 Tweaks

Ill be on all night if anyone needs more info...

Hopefully someone can figure out whats going on, im about to throw my new PC through the window!! LOL
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!
