Pavilion 15-ab292nr ram upgrade

Q: Pavilion 15-ab292nr ram upgrade

I recently purchased an HP Pavilion Notebook 15-ab292nr. The notebook came with 8 mgs of ram. As I understand it, the ram can be upgraded to 16 mgs. I wish to now what brand or type of 8 mg ram console (say, in Amazon descriptions) is compatible and whether there is any documentation that describes how to install the additional ram. Thanks !

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Got this new laptop for Christmas.  It came with only 1 stick of 8GB Ram.  Went to BB and got a pair of 8GB DDR3 1600 PC3-12800 PNY.  Now my laptop overheats and locks up.  The only difference is the old memory stick was a DDR3L, the new memory is only DDR3. This memory should work, why is it not?

A:HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab292nr

There's the problem. No it should not work. I am surprised it boots and runs. The laptop is designed for low-voltage memory and you really should not use anything else on a 6th gen Intel Core processor. Did you ask the geniuses (oops wrong store) at BB what your laptop needed or pick it out yourself? Can you take it back and get DDR3L? Pretty sure BB stocks it. The Manual: Two SODIMM slots - NON customer accessible / upgradeable DDR3L-1600 Dual Channel Support Supports up to 16 GB of system RAM in the following con?gurations: Memory module (DDR3L-1600): 8-GB 693374-005 Did you pay more than $70.44 for what you have? https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Technology-1600MHz-PC3-12800-KVR16LS11/dp/B00CQ35HBQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=U...

I bought this HP Pavilion 15-AB292NR "Flagship" laptop new in April 2016, came with core i7-6700HQ CPU - only to find out later  that the memory sockets on this laptop won't accept DDR4 RAM (and no, there are no UniDIMM notches in the memory sockets; the socket is notched for DDR3, only).  I discovered this after much digging, wading through documents, and numerous, seemingly endless calls to HP Tech Support - I finally got some answers after I was put through to the HP Parts Department. It is currently running 16 GB of DDR3L-1600 CL9 RAM (1.35 v), and industry standard synthetic benchmarks and real-world applications bear this out:  this system lags other systems in the same class (same CPU but with DDR4-2133  RAM) by 18% to 20% in overall performance.  This performance hit is particularly felt by the onboard intel HD 530 Integrated Graphics (again, optimized for DDR4), whose performance is tied directly to the speed of main system RAM. The DDR3-only system board limitation again holds this system back in FPS performance by 18 - 20% -  I've measured this myself. Skylake CPUs and chipsets are optimized for DDR4 memory.  This laptop is hobbled by DDR3 only sockets. I bought this laptop thinking that its "Flagship" status meant that it would be a top performer. Looks like I was sadly mistaken.

Per the subject line: HP Pavilion 15-AB292NR, on power up, the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165 internal WiFi adapter is not found, white square with red X is displayed in lower right corner of Windows 10 login screen. Must power-cycle or restart laptop 2 or 3 times before the white square with the red X on the Win10 login screen is replaced by the little Internet Access "Fan", then device works.  Wireless network then runs fine.   Has all the latest Windows 10 Home x64 updates and drivers.  Microsoft Windows 10 [Version 10.0.14393]

Hello, First, I must admit, I'm pretty disappointed and pissed off with my interactions so far with HP support. I tried asking this question both on FB and using the HP Chat support (been waiting over 30 minutes for a rep...) I bought a few days ago a Pavilion ab292nr, I have two simple questions, I understand that I can't put DDR4 Memory on it since it only supports DDR3L, what's the maximum memory speed for this laptop? I consider buying two 8gb DDR3L 2133MHz, I guess it should speed up the computer further, but I'm not sure if I can get the full advantage of 2133MHz since the memory the laptop come with is 1600MHz (it sounds completely stupid that the laptop would support 2133MHz and HP would deliberately decide to put a slower crappier memory in it).** Please do not refer me to the maintenance guide, I checked it out, it doesn't say **bleep**. Also, I'm interested in buying a 256Gb SSD to be my primary harddrive and put the slow 1TB HD asa secondary one. First, is it possible? If so, where can I get my windows code in order to reinstall it with the SSD as primary HD? Third, since no one really uses CDs today, is it possible to just remove the DVD drive? Is there any place I could buy a plastic cover or something? I would appreciate your help. Thanks,Fabian

I want to upgrade CPU to a 1gig on my HP Pavilion N3390 Notebook. Can someone explain to me what steps must be taken? After I buy the |CPU, where do I put it? How do I take apart the computer without breaking it?

Regards,

DAN

A:HP Pavilion, how do I upgrade CPU

First of all will need to check the hp.com web site and see if you are able to "jump" from the current cpu to 1 gig. If not then at least look for a BIOS update.
Now since you have a laptop things will get a little dicey. Will need to get a cpu which is made for a mobile pc , then will need to acctually take the laptop apart to be able to reach the cpu ...
When it cames to laptops changing a cpu is more "funky" then a regular desktop...anyways if you're skilled with a screw drive will be able to take the laptop apart and get to the cpu , remove it , put the new cpu in then put the laptop back as it was..

Hi  I have an HP Pavilion 550-279na. Whilst it suits most of my needs, I do enjoy the occasional game and have found that the GPU that it came with, the Radeon R5 330 is not providing enough 'oomph'. http://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c04949172 I have had a look around and think that the Nvidia GTX 750ti would probably fulfill my needs. Do you think that this card would fit in my PC? Also, I am guessing that the 180W PSU that it came with would not be sufficient to run a faster GPU, do you have any recommendations on size or model that would fit the Pavilion. My apologies if these are very lay questions, my hardware knowledge is not up to scratch! Thanks for any help. Charlie

I want to upgrade the graphics card of my Pavilion 550-159 NG, and I understand that this desktop has certain limitations regarding upgrades. I'd like to purchase the GeForce GTX 1050 2G. I know I would have to upgrade the PSU to more than 400 watts (currently at 180). The card is also short (otherwise I doubt it fits). Would I have to upgrade anything else? Or will it work at all? I have seen similar posts with similar desktops where other cards are suggested, but all are inferior to GeForce GTX 1050 2G. Would a more powerful card work (upgrading the PSU)?Thanks in advance!

Here is the Service Manual: Manual It appears to say the max memory is 12 gigs but we know from long experience it will take 2 x 8 gig modules for 16 gigs.  You need 2 of these: 8 GB memory module PC3L 12800 1600Mhz SHARED 693374-001 https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-PC3L-12800-204-Pin-SoDimm-M471b1g73bh0-yk0/dp/B00J8U549K/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1493753979&sr=8-2&keywords=693374-001 See p. 47 of the Manual. I purchased an HP  Pavilion 15-ab223cl about 6 months ago and finally am putting it to use. The specs are ideal for my intended use: DVD Burner, Core I5 64-bit CPU, 15.6 in. display, Windows 10. RAM is only 8 GB so I've decided to upgrade to the maximum 16 GB. However, standard documentation from HP is cryptic, at best, and useless at worst. There are a few internet sites with graphics and videos, but none appear to cover the 15-ab223cl, or upgrading the RAM requires complete disassembly of the notebook. Is complete disassembly required? If yes, I'm not sure that I want to tackle this task on a new out of the box item. Further, I've never owned a laptop that required such drastic measures for a task that should be routine. On my previous Toshiba and Sony notebooks, and current Lenovo E431, RAM upgrade requires removing battery and memory slots cover. What was HP thinking? Thanks for any assistance you can provide, especially disassembly that can be successfully reversed.

Hello!I am using a HP Pavilion dv6000 notebook, with a 32-bit Vista business, 2 processors of Genuine Intel with 1.73GHz each, and only 1GB of RAM. I would like to upgrade the RAM to 4GB, but I don't know if that's possible, and/or how to do that. I hope you guys can help me.Thanks.

A:How to upgrade RAM on HP Pavilion dv6000 ?

We need to know the exact model number from the tag on the bottom of the laptop. You can then just check by model number with Crucial at crucial.com to check max memory specs. Some of the dv6000s max at 2 gigs as you likely already know. 2 gigs is dirt cheap and would be a major improvement. With 32 bit Vista even if you install 4 gigs only 3 will be available for Windows to use. So 2 gigs is your best bet anyway. The difference between 1 gig and 2 is huge, the difference between 2 and 3 is negligible, in my opinion.

Yes. That is the top processor it can accept: G7 Service Manual You have switchable discrete graphics and that would not change, but the video performance of the lower-powered APU chip will improve by upgrading the processor. It should be a drop-in upgrade.  See pages 83-92 of the Manual for instructions.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

I want to upgrade the RAM from 4 to 8GB (16 if possible) and upgrade the OS to one with a longer support life - I'm thinking Windows 7 or 8.1. Is it best to do the upgrades serially and which should I do first? What RAM should I buy i.e. ordering info? Which OS do you recommend and where is the best place to buy it and the preferred media. Thanks to those forum members in advance for your advice.butchiepoo

A:Upgrade HP Pavilion Notebook - RAM and OS

Hi, Please use the following manual:     http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01918142.pdf RAM: page 2 gives you RAM specs and max RAM supported. Page 67 gives you part number, you can use part number to order from HP or online stores. Please note: this is an old machine and RAM could be a bit hard to find now.For OS: Windows 7 drivers are available on itshomepage:          http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-dv7-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/374... You are much better to upgrade to Windows 7 than others because HP supports it. For OS, you can buy from a computer shop or order from Microsoft. Please note again, this machine is 8 years old. Please do not waiste more money on it. Regards.

Hello,

I am looking for suggestions for video cards for an HP 501n Pavilion PC. It has an on-board video card now that uses up to 11 mb of the installed RAM. I would like to upgrade to at least a 16mb card. I don't do much gaming but I have run across some applications that are requiring more video memory. I tried unsuccessfully to upgrade to a 16mb ATI Expert 128 card several months ago and it just did not seem to work. It would recognize the card but then it would not continue to use it correctly and the display was horrible. From my research at that time, I should be able to install and use another video card (HP says so and I have seen threads about it) but I would like to know if anyone has any recommendations that they have gotten to work in situations similar to mine? Thanks.

System has:
256 MB RAM
Win XP Home OS

A:HP Pavilion 15-au006tx M.2 SSD upgrade possible?

We get this question a lot and right now I cannot advise anyone to buy an HP laptop with the idea of adding an M.2 drive to it when it did not ship with one. There are a couple long-running threads here, one of which seems to have concluded that on certain models the M.2 port is disabled in the BIOS, and another has shown that a model which shows an M.2 slot in the Service manual in fact has no such slot. See p. 34 of the Service Manual: Manual It appears from this Manual that you can have either an M.2 mSSD or a hard drive since it refers to an SSD board and cable. It's also clear that if you can use an M.2 mSSD you are limited to the SATA variety, which has no speed advantage over a 2.5 inch SATA SSD. I would buy it, since the specs are very good and swap the 1 TB 5400 rpm HDD for a 1 TB SATA-III SSD and if 1 TB is not enough storage for you consider putting the 1 TB HDD in an optical caddy. Who uses a DVD drive these days, anyway? If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

My Pavilion 550-102a is short of grunt - the AMD A4-7300 processor is not up to handling anything beyond basic email it seems. The official HP product page for my system lists the following quad core CPU upgrade options: A10-8850, A10-8750, A8-8650, A10-7800, A8-7600. I am seeking some advice as to the suitability of the aforementioned processors, or any others which may be better and will fit the available FM2+ socket? Also, having never done a CPU upgrade before, is it as physically straight forward as a memory upgrade? Thanks.

A:Pavilion 550-102a CPU upgrade

@pgking, welcome to the forum. The CPU's that are listed in the HP documents are the only ones that have been tested to assure they work.  Therefore, they are the only ones that are supported by HP and the motherboard.  All things equal, the A10-8850 should be the fastest one that is supported.  Upgrading the CPU is a bit more technical than upgrading the memory.  There are numerous videos online that will help you. If you want to add some additional performance, I suggest considering a SSD.  I will never have a computer without a SSD as the boot drive. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

A:HP Pavilion a1223w upgrade help

This might not be easy because I don't think that HP uses the ATX form factor. Many of the motherboards mentioned here are ATX boards, which has holes in certain places that match the back board it rests on. I'll have to look deeper into this one.

If your power supply unit is below 450 watts, you may need to upgrade.
