[SOLVED] Incoming hotmail

Q: [SOLVED] Incoming hotmail

I was using gmail to stop spam in hotmail - and I decided I did not like the setup - would rather my mail go and come from hotmail. I deleted gmail (within Windows Live Mail) but my mail is still coming in through gmail on the web.

How can I get hotmail working properly so the mail comes through it?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Unfortunately, rules don't work as the mail is still stored on the server

you need to create a folder in the top section (local folders) of Outlook Express and then just drag and drop into that folder

Hello all,

Can anybody help with this issue:

The characters in my incoming messages are not displayed correctly. I tried to reinstall it and also to adjust the coding; however, nothing has changed. I do not experience the same issue on my business laptop and even though I tried to compare the settings in both Hotmails installed, I was not able to come to a solution. Please see the attached screenshot

Thank you for your help in advance,

A:Incoming messages not displayed correctly through Windows Live Hotmail

Hi enipuskas, welcome to 7F!

When you say incorrectly you mean all those accents above/beside the letters. The fractions, % signs and ??
Is this all incoming messages or just from certain senders?
Has this just started?
How long have you had your HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC?
Is the dv6 fully updated?

I have to look back in my posts, but there was a similar problem, and it was narrowed down to incorrect encoding by the senders email system.

There could also be a conflict in language packs. Have you installed any?

For the time being you could try running: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker, run it at least three times even if it reports all is okay.

My husband and employer both sent me an email that shows the correct date in the email time line, but Outlook shows a recieve date of April 2008.

It doesn't happen on every email, just some. We've all checked our clock dates and their correct. Talked to my Internet Service Provider and they said it was an Outlook problem.

Any ideas?

I am running Windows XP Professional 2002 and Microsoft Office 2003 (Outlook 2003)

I was using the older version of Outlook Connector to access my Hotmail account, but recently it said that I needed to upgrade it. The automatic upgrade did not work properly, so I manually removed/un-installed the old Outlook Connector, removed the hotmail account within Outlook, and I also removed a bunch of hotmail.ost files hanging around that seemed to have no data in them (in C:\Documents and Settings\Default\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook) - I believe they were formed when I was going through all the problems with the supposedly automatic upgrade).

Then I manually downloaded and installed the newest version 14.1 for 32-bit and through the Outlook connector interface within Outlook, re-added the Hotmail account. But now when I try to click on any Hotmail folder, the following error message appears:
"Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook could not access the specified folder location."

So I feel like I am back at square one and not sure how to get the Connector to start connecting. Thanks for any advice.

A:Solved: Outlook Hotmail Connector unable to connect to Hotmail

Amazingly, I finally found the answer in another forum, of course only after I went to the trouble of making my earlier posting.

SETTING THE HOTMAIL ACCOUNT AS THE DEFAULT EMAIL ACCOUNT solves the accessing problem. I hope this can help some other poor souls out there!

I know some people have multiple hotmail accounts that they want to sync up with Outlook, and have no idea what to do in that case, but if you only have one account, this seems to work.

Have been busy the last two days and just realized I haven't received any incoming emails.

Just got off the RR support line and went through all the hoops for the tech and not help.

Cannot even go to RR's webmail and get it there. Sent mail through all three accounts to myself an none showed up on the webmail. This convinces me it is the server problem.

He suggested I wait 24 hours and see if I receive them. I guess not receiving any for two days didn't convince him of anything.

Anybody got any ideas. I am using W98Se-OE6.0 and am in the Houston area.

After upgrading to the AVG 8.0 paid version, incoming email scanning was clearly not working with Mozilla Thunderbird. This is despite the fact that the AVG security centre said that it was.

A trawl of internet forums led to what seems like the solution. I re-ran the initial AVG 8.0 downloaded installation file. This came up with a dialogue box where "Add or Remove Components" was an option. Having selected this, the next box contained a number of ticked options plus an unticked "Personal email scanner". I ticked this (leaving all other ticks as they were) and let the installation continue. Following a 'successful installation' message, the email scanner now seems to be working okay.

This operation installs a file called avgemc.exe which appears to be the key element. It also provides additional email options within AVG advanced options. I did not have to play with these for Thunderbird, but it appears that may be necessary for some other email programs.

I think it this is an unsatisfactory situation on a number of levels. Firstly AVG should not tell us that email scanning is working when if fact it is not. Secondly they should make installation of this file etc automatic because not everyone used Microsoft email facilities, even if they are the default on the PC. Thirdly, if for some reason this is not viable then AVG should publicise the possible need to install this component clearly and prominently in the upgrade instructions. Finally there sh... Hello again. I'm brand new to Windows Live mail and currently using WLM 2011. I have quite a few subscriptions to Newsletters that send automatic e-mails that include pictures, but the pictures don't come through, only the text.

For example, today, Cooking.com sent a newsletter, which usually includes pictures, which I want to see. I open it to find only text, no pictures. I go to forward it to someone, and lo and behold, the pictures show up on my "sent" e-mail.

Outlook Express used to ask via a bar at the top of my e-mail if I wanted to allow the pictures to be shown with the e-mail I just opened. I could choose yes or no. Seems I don't have that choice in WLM, or that I can find.

I did go to Options (on the WLM pane) then Security Options and under the Security tab, I have unchecked the boxes in "download images". I do see where I can check "show images and external content sent from email addresses in my safe senders list". Is this the only way I can allow or make the pictures appear in my incoming e-mail, by manually adding an e-mail address to this list?

Any insight would be very helpful. I am not a computer wiz so if you can keep it simple I would be thankful.

On the Mail Format tab, look at "Compose in this message format"
If it is set as plain text, both outgoing and incoming messages will use this format.... change it to either Rich text or HTML format

Also, if Word is turned off as the email editor, incoming formatted messages may not show the formatting used..... tick the box to use word as the email editor.

Hi

Ever since I installed it its been major problems for me, my speeds are terrible takes ages to load a webpage and days to download anything. Also I have tried to stream to my apple tv through the use of airplay mirroring but this again doesn't work and an error code appears every time which I then looked up and it says its to do with my firewall blocking incoming connections. This is a follow on to a closed earlier thread. I had some garbled text in an email message from an iPad, received on the Eudora email program (Win 8.1 laptop).

Copying the characters to an online UUE decoder did not work, nor did placing the characters in a Notepad text file, changing the extension to .uue, and then dropping into IE 11.

However pasting the original characters into a Notepad .txt file, saving/closing and then re-opening did work, the encoded icons displayed correctly.

I am using Windows XP Home, and use Knology as my ISP. The emails in question are all coming from University-based addresses, and so im curious if that might play a role. Are there any translators available for free that I could copy the coding into and get something readable out of? Many of those emails are of personal importance.

Hi hopefully someone can explain to me a way of at least finding out what is blocking incoming connections on my vista pc. Im Virgin Media broadband connected to my downstairs router via RangeMax Wireless-N Adapter WN111v2.

Now signal is only fair on network and connections screen, but on netgear wireless smart wizard shows 5 out of 8 bars ....54mbps.

I have forwarded the right ports and i can connect to other servers, and i used to be able to host myself and have no probs with incoming connections .................until

one day i downloaded a sort of extra firewall program that i was going to use then having installed it i realised it wasnt what i needed so i unistalled it again

but it seems to have altered my firewall settings drasticly, at first my firewall wouldnt even stay on
then i learnt how to reset windows firewall which at least got firewall stable again. But ever since my pc will not allow incoming connections.

even though i still play on servers i cant host a game as everyone gets a time out message.

So ive read that i may need to contact isp but im sure this is a problem arising from firewall settings !!! is there any way of determining where the problem lies? a system test or something that would tell me exactly what is blocking and why ? or at the very least something to tell the isp as im clueless right now

thanks

Hi.

Wasn't quite sure where to post this query - it seems to cross subject matter twixt email and security.

I am currently trying out the security program Returnil which has you working in a virtual environment. How does this effect the reality of incoming email to my Windows Mail account? I have occasionally forgotten that I am working in the virtual environment and then gone and checked my mail/replied etc. However when I have gone back to Windows Mail in the 'real' world, my messages have disappeared.

What am I doing wrong or maybe could I be advised as to what is the best practise regarding program based email client when using Returnil.

Until this morning I have never had any problems with Norton AV scanning both incoming and outgoing e-mail. (I use Outlook Express 6.) However, today I called Comcast and told the technician that now whenever I click on Send/Recv I get an error message, # 0X800CCCOF.

The tech pinpointed Zone Alarm as the culprit, and he suggested that I turn off Zone Alarm when sending/receiving messages and then turn it back on afterward, but I figured there ought to be a better solution.

I opened Norton AV and noticed that the problem is with the scanning of incoming e-mail. (Scanning outgoing e-mail is not a problem.) Actually, I could simply turn off the incoming scan function, but I wonder if it might be unwise to do so. Microsoft has a long article on how to troubleshoot send and receive error messages in Outlook and Outlook Express. MS suggests eight possible workaround methods, one of which is removing and then reinstalling Outlook Express.

Do I really need to have the "Scan incoming e-mail" function turned on? If not, I could just leave it turned off and the error messages would disappear. On the other hand, if having the function turned on is important would it make sense to go to the trouble of removing and reinstalling OE, hoping that doing so would clear up the problem? I still can't figure out how this problem came about because I'm certain that I haven't changed any settings.

A:Solved: NORTON AV problem: cannot scan incoming e-mail

Oops! I just found out that scanning outgoing e-mails is also a problem. I received an error message with the function turned on. So I turned off the function and sent the message without any problem.

In other words, my problem is with scanning both incoming and outgoing messages. I'm just wondering if it's unsafe to have them turned off.

When I send a message using Outlook Express the recipient automatically receive the address of my Sympatico account therefore when the person replies, I receive the message in the Sympatico account. However, I would like for those replies to be automatically routed to my Yahoo account. Can that be done?

This is a weird one. Just started this week. Outlook Express puts a little paperclip by incoming emails indicating an attachment. But in fact there is no attachment. I checked with those who sent the emails, and indeed they never sent an attachment.
How do I convey the truth to Outlook Express?

I posted on this problem previously but have way more debug time now to narrow down the issue.
Hoping one of you smarter people can help me with this.

it would be a fun challenge if not so serious.....

Several people who work together routinely email one another. they all use Outlook Express, and they all have their email addresses on one domain via their ISP, Grande Communications. One by one, the various folk reported they no longer were getting emails from their buddies. I tested things every which way and found only these qualifiers:
- Webmail is fine. no issues at all if they login via browser and work their mail that way.
- Outgoing mail sent from inside OE6 works fine. no issues, no error messages, things show up in the 'Sent' folder as they should, etc. however......
- Mail sent to any of the buddies does not arrive. However mail sent to anyone "outside" that circle [me for instance] arrives just dandy.
- Disabling Firewalls and Scanners [avast] has no effect.
- Several good long chats with the Grande tech support yield no clues - there are no errors or anomalies that they can see. biz as usual....
- Setting up new/additional identities in OE produces the same results. Send fine, receive fine from anyone OTHER than the buddies.

To say I'm stumped is an understatement. If it were a port issue [server port... i.e. 110 or 995 or whatever] it would seem ALL incoming messages would be adversely affected. Similarly if the router were having issue... Read more

I have a Nokia C1 01 and when I examine the various profiles, I see one option for "incoming call alert" and another for "message alert tone".

Can anyone explain how what these two options are and how they work? Are they related to each other in any way?

A:Solved: Can anyone explain incoming call alert vs msg alert tone?

"incoming call alert" I think is if you are on the phone making a call...you will hear that sound to tell you somebody is calling you.

"message alert tone". Is when you have received a text message

For the past week, since 8/18/2004, E-mail that I send to Yahoo and Hotmail via Outlook Express 6, is being delayed. It is only certain addresses. It is taking up to 2 days and occassionally there is a mail failure. Hotmail sends me messages that the mail is being delayed and not to resend, but the recipient never receives it. My E-mail address is not blocked. When I send via internet, all is well. I have no other problems sending or recieivng to others.

Any thoughts?

I can’t access my HOTMAIL accounts- HOTMAIL support?

I learned about Microsoft’s new policy of not allowing you to send email from Hotmail using it’s own products Outlook and Outlook Express unless you are paying an additional fee, when I replied to a (Hotmail) email while using OE. After sending my reply I received an error message that OE could not access the account. It then proceeded to DELETE all my previous email message in outlook express for this account.

A web search then led me discover that this account was one of those now requiring payment of a fee to send mail using Outlook or OE instead of logging on to the website. (They are doing this in stages so some HOTMAIL accounts still allow the free use and access with Outlook/OE.)

I then tried to sign on to my account using another Microsoft product Internet Explorer- initially everything looked unchanged,

1. however after typing in my name and password instead of opening my account

2. I got a new screen of “scrambled letters” designed to prove that a person and not a machine is accessing my account.

3. I type in these scrambled letters and one of two things happens:

a. (Usually) I receive yet another screen of scrambled letters to input

b. (Occasionally) I receive the “sign in screen” again EITHER WAY

4. Whichever screen I receive- whether I input scrambled letters yet again or insert my name and password the process repeats itself and one of two things happens:

a. (Usually) I receive yet anothe... Read more

A:I can't acces my HOTMAIL account- Hotmail Tech Support?

I've never used Outlook or Outlook Express in any form my self, so I can only offer some limited suggestions for sorting this out.

First: have you tried deleting all cookies and accessing the account? If using XP/2k -- it may even be helpful to try creating a new User Profile and logging in under that, this will ensure you have an entirely new web cache, index.dat and cookie folder.

Try accessing the account from another computer and see if you get in that way.

Hi I recently clicked on a link to move from a normal hotmail account to a 'Windows' Hotmail account now I either can't get into the email account (see error message below) or else when I get in if I click on anything I get another message. A:Can't delete Hotmail or Yahoo mail and can't open Hotmail

Hi
Lots of people have problems with Yahoo and Hotmail accounts. The most common causes seem to be cookie rejection, incorrect firewall settings, and/or an overly aggressive and intrusive firewall like ZoneAlarm that does a lot of things without asking.

Are you able to access the email accounts from a computer at another location? (other house, library, etc.)

Did you recently change any settings in a program or install a new program or a new version of or update for one, especially some security program (firewall, antivirus, etc.)?

Do you have a router?

Is your trash folder overfull?

Have you tried using the extensive filter and spam blocking on Hotmail?

If you are usiing OE also go to it and export your address as an .csv file then go to this url and import them to your new hotmail account.

I don't know if their is a provision to import them from your old Hotmail account.

Hi everyone

I tried to use Outlook 2002 to access my hotmail. I used the POP3 settings, got it to work, and hit send/receive. Now none of my emails from my Inbox are in my hotmail account when I use my web login. Why did it do this and how do I reverse it? I tried to find some answers on the Microsoft site but they give pretty generic answers there. The answers I've got here in the past were much better.

Thanks in advance,

Greg

A:Hotmail + Outlook 2002 = no emails at Hotmail site

Try going to Tools > Email Accounts > View or change existing accounts > Select your account and click Change > Click More Settings > Advanced tab. From here there should be a check box that allows you to set whether you want your emails to be left on the server.

I have never had a Hotmail account before.

But I figured it couldn't be much of a problem to get one.

I went to www.hotmail.com and tried to sign up for a Hotmail account. But I was overwhelmed with something called "Windows Live" and I wound up with an email account that looked like this: [email protected]

Can anyone tell me how I can get an ordinary Hotmail acct that looks like: [email protected]?

MS has become a huge monster. Time after time they kept pushing all this "Live" extra software that they wanted me to download and install. It was scary.

They even tried to get me to d/l and install some Internet Explorer tool while informing me of the many "Dangers" associated with this thing. They actually seemed disappointed when I refused to let them install it.

Does anyone know what's gone wrong in the big monopoly in Bellvue? I just want a little email acct.
