desktop mode wont enable

Q: desktop mode wont enable

I thought i'd post a video here to show what's happening, any time I try to load the desktop it crashes out and shows wallpaper only, then right click and the start tiles show again.

if you look at the top right the third time I do it you can see the deskop icons flash up just for a moment, i've also ran malwarebytes on this system and it's clean.

Preferred Solution: desktop mode wont enable

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Guys and Gals, my Windows 7 Laptop is in a serious pickle and I have used every bit of troubleshooting knowledge I have learned in my 10 years working in a Windows environment to no result.

I hope that I am posting in the correct forum, and I have read the forum rules. This is my first post on any help forum ever, so I hope the way I have written this is in conformance with what you all are used to.

I have seen multiple error codes thrown when I forced the computer not to restart and show me the BSOD details. This is what is stated:
Stop 0x000000F4 (0x0000000000000003, 0xFFFFFA800600c910, 0xFFFFFA800600CBF0, 0xFFFFF8000357B7B0

Summary: My laptop boots to the Windows 7 login screen but after logging in, startup never finishes completely and is completely unresponsive to (Ctrl,Shift,Esc) and any other attempts to pull up the task manager. My laptop is dual boot, and has these 2 OS's installed: Windows 7 Home Premium (Genuine) and Kali Linux, both of which are 64 bit versions.
When I attempt to boot the computer into the Windows 7 environment, I am able to login at the normal account login page, but after this, it will take an entire day's time to load the desktop and even when it does, finally show the task bar, then the icons, I am unable to open any of them. For instance, after about 20 minutes, when the taskbar finally appears, when I click on the start button, whether from the keyboard windows icon, or the mouse, I will have to wait about 10 minutes until the start... Hello there,

It seems like you did not perform a clean installation of Windows and that's why your system is acting up.

Follow the steps below to install a new copy of Windows:

1. To format your hard disk during Windows 7 installation you will need to start or boot your computer using the Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive. Insert your Windows 7 disc in your CD/DVD drive. Please note: will need to restart or turn on your system with the disc in the drive.
2. After turning on your system with the CD in the drive go ahead and press any key when prompted during your computer post routine and then follow the instructions presented on screen. If you don’t see this go back to step 1 to setup your BIOS to boot from CD or USB flash drive depending on your installation media.
3. On the Install Windows page simply enter your preferences and click next.

4. Accept the Windows license agreement.

5. On the “Which type of installation do you want” page go ahead and choose the “Custom” option.

6. Select Drive options (advanced) on the “Where do you want to install Windows” page.

7.  Select the partition that you want to change, choose the formatting option you want to perform and then follow the instructions.
When allocating space choosing the default MB size for your drive is typically the best for most users since you want to take full advantage of all your disk... Read more

I'm afraid 32 bit windows 7 has a 3.5GB RAM limit no matter what. The limits then vary working your way up the 64 bit version ladder. (the unofficial PAE stuff for Windows 7 is unstable)

Actually, scratch that. Apparently the limit is 4GB for all 32 bit versions but starter :/

Looks like you're gonna stay a virgin, cause that ain't no high-end video card you got there.

Now on to the real topic. I'm not quite sure what you are saying as regards enabling VGA mode. All you need to do is make sure you disable any onboard vga chip in the bios (because you are using an add-on video card), and that's it. Your PC should boot and video should eminate from your card. Pressing F8 during boot simply allows you to select 'safe mode', which is normally used when you are experiencing problems such as misbehaving drivers. You shouldn't need to do this at all normally.

A:Can't enable hibernate mode

Hey there!                      Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!I understand that you have issues putting your PC in hibernation mode. Difference between sleep mode and hibernation: Sleep ModeSleep mode is a power saving state that is similar to pausing a DVD movie. All actions on the computer are stopped, any open documents and applications are put in memory while the computer goes into a low-power state. The computer technically stays on, but only uses a bit of power. You can quickly resume normal, full-power operation within a few seconds. Sleep mode is basically the same thing as ?Standby? mode.Sleep mode is useful if you want to stop working for a short period of time. The computer doesn?t use much power in Sleep mode, but it does use some.HibernateHibernate mode is very similar to sleep, but instead of saving your open documents and running applications to your RAM, it saves them to your hard disk. This allows your computer to turn off entirely, which means once your computer is in Hibernate mode, it uses zero power. Once the computer is powered back on, it will resume everything where you left off. It just takes a bit longer to resume than sleep mode does (though with an SSD, the difference isn?t as noticeable as it is with traditional hard drives).Use this mode if you won?t be using your lapt... The problem is "overcome" by disenabling "Enable Protected Mode" in the security settings of the IE Browser 8. Is this just my machine or are all recent browsers with the above options affected? I need to know so a big favour - please someone with IE8 go to the website "Marthascloset.co.uk" and place any item in the basket and try to confirm it. Does it go back to zero price? Hi,
My friend has moved her computer and now her monitor wont show anything on the screen. She has a compaq s710 monitor. The light on the front of the monitor is green and is flashing. We have tried to move the plugs to see if it is a connection problem but nothing happens. When we turn the tower on it seems to click but doesnt enable the screen. Plz help

A:Monitor wont enable

Here are some possibilities:

The video adaptor that you are plugging the monitor into may have become loose inside the computer. (you may be able to confirm this by gently moving the connector at the back of the computer)

There may be two video adaptors at the back of the computer (please confirm - if so try the other)

The monitor may have died (does the computer seem to be loading - flickering front lights - and sound from harddrive)

The computer itself may not be starting (does the computer seem to be loading - flickering front lights - and sound from harddrive)

The whole cycle only takes a few seconds.

Ive tried booting in safe mode but this isnt working so I downloaded kav rescue on another computer and saved it on a flash drive, But it wont boot off this either.

Hello,

Today I noticed that I could not open my start menu with neither the windows button, ctrl + esc, or a click of the mouse. I've also had a problem the last couple of days saving/opening files in one of the programs I used to make music. I tried to go into safe mode to do system restore, but the safe mode didn't boot. It scrolled all the system files on the screen but then just stopped and nothing happened.

So, I tried the other option (forget what it's called) that lets you perform various other system restoration tasks. I brought up the system restore screen from there, but got an error that said something about corrupt files so it could not perform the restore. I checked again, and all my restore points had been deleted.

Lastly, when I click computer, all the drives are blank with no names beside them, only the icons. I can still click them and they seem to be functioning normally, so I don't know if there is a relation to this. I don't know if some registry files were deleted or if there is some other problem. I didn't notice the start menu/safe mode/blank icon issues until I just recently installed the latest windows update.

Sorry if this seemed a little long winded, but I would appreciate help from anyone.

Thanks,

Hey guys,

As the program is now I have the shift key disabled and the access interface hidden and the only way a user can get into the design mode or actual coding is if the user has the password. As of now if the user knows the password i enable the shift key and automatically close the program and ask the user to open it holding the shift key but the problem then is that what if the authorized user forgets to disable the key.

So my question is...Is after i verify that the user has the right password, instead of enabling the shift key is there any other way of opening the program in design mode? that is bringing the Access Db window??

A:How can I enable USB Support in Safe mode

Your USB controller driver should load normally in Safe Mode. If not look in Device Manager to see if it is detected and in error. If so uninstall it in Dev Mgr, reboot into Safe Mode to see if it loads.

Otherwise install it from the Support Downloads webpage for your model PC, probably contained in chipset.

May I ask why you are working in Safe Mode?

Is this the original corrupt HP bloatware preinstall? If so you should strongly consider doing what most tech enthusiasts do and Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7,
or at least Clean Up Factory Bloatware.

Hi all, I have just read a very enlightening article in PC Magazine concerning SP2 Security Center Spoofing Threat - http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1639276,00.asp The article says, essentially, that the XP Firewall could possibly be spoofed by malicious script which would tell it to "open the door" for an attack. I am probably not doing the article justice so please read it, as well as Microsoft's response.I am running XP Pro on one machine only. I am set as the Administrator and the only user. The article says, in part:"...The one mitigating factor that we found is that to change the WMI, and spoof the Security Center, the script has to be running in Administrator mode. If executed in Windows XP's Limited Mode, it will give an error, and not allow changes. Unfortunately, most home users who will be at risk, run in the default administrator mode."[The question(s) part:] What are the advantages/disadvantages of running XP Pro for a single user in Limited Mode? Where do I go to make the changes?P.S. This is my first foray into the world of BC outside of the infamous Privacy Tools 2004 thread in the Breaking News - Security Forum.

A:WinXP's 'Limited' Mode - How to Enable?

Your question is a good one, Xsara. A part of my present problem is lack of understanding with regards to what I find as a damnable part of winxp pro...the logon feature, and user groups in general. I too use xp pro on one machine only and have found it diffficult to with clarity and foresight manipulate the OS in such a way to accomodate my needs. If you don't mind killin' some time, references to the problems, not the fixes are within this post of mine and links within it:my problems (in particular, the most recent parts of the thread)and this, from a post re: freshly installing windows which kinda sums it up:the questions I had in mind... I've done it a half dozen times (re-installation) and know that variations exist and they do exert influences on the issues of system stability and speed of operation to an extent.Configuring the OS, especially winxp pro can be done well, or not so well. I'm in between with regards to my own experience.I'm convinced, from the very start of it's operation, that winxp is more friendly to a large corporation with multiple PC's in multiple locations with multiple users on each one than it is to the single user who initially wanted the extra security features within the file structures themselves and may have been sorta duped by the thought that it was better to get the most advanced operating system so that preparation for the future was assisted, as well. I am fairly computer literate. I am running WinXP on an AMDK7/600mHz machine with plenty of memory and harddrive space. When I added SP2 to WinXP, among some other things the AutoProtect Mode in my NAV 2003 application appears permanently disabled; even though I have gone through all the enabling steps (NAV Options), AutoProtect won't run. I have run a complete NAV scan, both from my application and from the Symantec site. I also regularly run updated versions of SpybotS&D, Pest Patrol (plus the full suite of PP products like MemCheck, Clean, etc), Ad-Aware (6.0 Plus) and HijackThis (1.98.2). I have scoured the Symantec and other KnowledgeBases for details on AutoProtect not running, but I've either tried all the remedies--except uninstalling, then reinstalling NAV--or the suggested remedy does not fit my situation.

As I've discovered, NAV is very difficult to uninstall; the reinstall is likewise difficult, even if it's an Upgrade and NAV detects any remnants of the previous version. I've even had problems upgrading to a brand-new licensed program (such as when I installed NAV 2003). So I've tried to avoid the NAV uninstall/reinstall "solution" 'cause it's seems to be so difficult.

I know how to use Regedit to search/modify the Registry, but I'm reluctant to try anything unless I'm following a very specific checklist from a reliable KnowledgeBase (like Symantec or Microsoft). I know I have at least one Pest ("buried deep in the operating syst... Read more

Download CWShredder and click on Fix (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you). If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure
that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. I've recently had a problem with Windows, and I can only boot in Safe Mode. Everything there works as it should. However, the drivers for my CD burner do not activate in safe mode.
In order to fix my problem, I need to create a recovery disk for vista, and I have the disk image (iso), and the software needed to do it. Only I can't, because of those pesky little drivers and their reluctance to run in safe mode.

I know it is possible in XP to solve this issue through regedit, I simply wondered if anyone knew how to load the necessary drivers for CD burning in Vista's safe mode.

Thanks in advance!

MALWARE issues!!!I was having trouble staying in SAFEMODE to try to do some cleanup on my Laptop. The malware prevented my getting into safe mode and would cause the pc to just reboot normally. Because of this, I went into the msconfig>system config utility > boot.ini> then placed a check in the safemode box. I rebooted. Now its worse because it is now stuck with the BLACK screen safe mode choices. But It still wont go into safe mode and wont even reboot normally to reg windows mode.It trys to reboot on its own after a countdown of 30 seconds. But a blue screen quickly flashes once. Then it tries to reboot over and over again no matter which option I pick (last known config, safe mode networking, safe mode, safe with command, etc), it just tries to reboot over and over again like a broken record.I can get into phoenix BIOS by pushing F10 (or F12 I think), but I dont know what I can do there. At this point, i just want my pc to be able to boot normally into Window, and I will see what I can do in reg windows mode as far as cleaning the malware off my pc.Please help in easy terms. Thanks for your help in advance...PS: Windows Home edition OEM sp2 IE7-HP pavillion 8100 laptop-I have the original sealed discs that came with my 4 or so year old Laptop.I just need to be walked step by step if I need to boot from them. I dont want to have to wipe everything out or have to do a fresh install, if I can at all avoid this....Sorry for the hassle. My original main goal... Read more

Hello and welcome. I am moving this from XP to the Am I Infected forum for scans.Lets do these from normal. Please download TFC by Old Timer and save it to your desktop. alternate download linkSave any unsaved work. TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser! Double-click on TFC.exe to run it. If you are using Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator. Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion. Important! If TFC prompts you to reboot, please do so immediately. If not prompted, manually reboot the machine anyway to ensure a complete clean.Next run MBAM (MalwareBytes):NOTE: Before saving MBAM please rename it to zztoy.exe....now save it to your desktop. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and yo... Ok, so I'm helping someone can help me on here. I was origionally running Windows 7 but had to install Ubuntu alongside it. I was installing a game, then started playing it while it continued downloading (it was a streaming download.) It ran fine for about 10 min, and then the computer froze. I decided to restart it and now it wont boot back up. Everytime I try booting it into either safe mode or regular mode it gets to the windows loading screen and then goes to the bsod and restarts. When I try booting it in safe mode it will load all the drivers until it reaches aswrvrt, then bsod flashes and it restarts. I tried booting it into recovery mode but it will reach a gray screen and then hang. I can move the courser around but nothing loads. I installed Ubuntu on a sd card so I can try and fix the problem. I can access all the data on the hard drive, so I tried uninstalling avast and the game. I dont think it worked since I can still see the files.Does anyone know what I am talking about and can help me?

A:Windows 7 wont boot into safe mode or recovery mode

Your Windows installation has corrupted in some way. If you cannot enter the "Last Known Good" option from the recovery screen you should then be looking at booting from a repair disk and repairing your file system.

EDIT: that is a windows repair disk specific to your OS that I am talking about.

Ok im wracking my brain!

i have just updated my OS to windows 7 after years of XP. Since updating, a few of my hardware devices needed to be updated aswell. One in particular was my wireless card.

So i went online and purchased a Ralink 802.11b/g/n, installed software and drivers, good to go right? wrong! the bloody thing wont enable.

I have tried everything, aswell as contacting the manufacturer. They have offered me a refund, but i dont want to give in that easy.

when i right click on the the network, it says "enabaling...enabled" then it stays disabled and shaded.

Anybody had a similar issue to this, and or has some ideas?

i have posted some pics to help

the way you describe it just sounds like it isn't physically switching on, this is going to be purely controlled by the button on the side of the laptop ?

has this been happening since you got the laptop and has it ever worked ?

what make and model do you have ?

I am running Windows XP Professional 2002 service pack 3 on a Dell D820 with 4 gig of RAM.

I recently downloaded and installed some automatic updates. Since then the system is horribly slow to open applications and within the applications.

When I go to the Auto Update Properties I cant turn on the Automatic Updates now. When I go to start the application it gives me an error. "Could not start the Automatic Update services on the Local Computer. Error 1058: The services could not be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

Question: how do I troubleshoot to find out which of these is causing the error.

Thanks in advance,
M
