Application opening speed right after Windows startup

Q: Application opening speed right after Windows startup

Whenever you boot your system, applications openned for the first time take more time to open but after they've been openned at least one time, the process speeds up. Can you tell me if there's a way for Windows to not initialize this speed everytime the computer is rebooted, so that it can stay always at maximum speed? It might have something to do with cache or something.

Thank you

Preferred Solution: Application opening speed right after Windows startup

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello to everyone,

I know, that this is a forum for Windows 7. However my problem is on Windows Server 2008R2 Ent, but with normal desktop application mspaint.

There is a problem, that sometimes it is not possible to open mspaint untill restart of the system. When I run mspaint, there is no error message (neither in event viewer) and no application windows. In task manager I can see that process is running but thats all. If I will provide you with memory dump of mspaint, is there someone who can help?

Thank you,

A:Application windows not opening in the center ?

Many will remember size and position when closed. They will open there next time. Some just allow Windows to open them however Windows wants. There's a free program WinSize2 that gives you more control.

I use windows 7, and I use an email application which I think is referred to as a pop 3 . ([email protected]). I email quite happily using this when I open it from my browser. However whilst browsing , I can find an email address which I wish to contact
and upon clicking on the address it opens an application called Outlook 12 live and it neither sends or keeps a copy of the email.
Obviously somewhere I need to change an arrow and point to the right application. But alas I know not where.

Every once in a while I use a third-party application called File Renamer Basic (Sherrod Computers) and I've never had any problems with it but tonight I opened it and I got a Windows popup that was trying to install and configure Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007, which is already installed on my PC).

I followed the directions and I inserted my MS Office CD-ROM so it could locate a certain file. It said that the path could not be found and that I needed to find the installation package HomeStudentrWW.msi in a folder so that it could install the product Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007. After all this I got an Error 1706 and it said to see SETUP.CHM for other solutions.

I did a thorough search online but everything I found regarding this issue involved only problems opening Microsoft Office applications, not any third-party programs. I tried everything I could think of (uninstalling/reinstalling/updating/registry edits/system restore, etc.) and nothing solved the problem. I did find that if I kept pressing "cancel" about 5 or 6 times eventually the program (File Renamer Basic) would open and everything would be fine, but obviously there is some kind of bug or conflict going on and I would like to fix it if possible.

Any ideas as to what is causing this?

I have a question regarding Mozilla Firefox 2. I notice when I click on the Firefox icon (whether in my Quick Launch Bar, my Start Menu Shortcuts listing, or on the desktop), it can take up to 15 to 20 seconds for the application to open. Hi, welcome to TSF

Firefox has always been slow to open compared to IE, because IE is so deeply integrated into the Windows operating system and has most of its components loaded when you boot into Windows.

The about:config tweaks you mention affect various aspects of how Firefox loads pages, but as far as I'm aware they can't improve the program's loading time.

Try creating a new profile with no addons or themes, then reboot the computer and load Firefox with this new profile to see how its start time compares to your normal profile with all its extras.

too long; didn't read: I (2nd year CS Student) am looking for a way to increase the animation speed or disable the animation of the Logitech SetPoint "Application Switcher" Button on windows 7?

Hi All!

First off, I found this community by accident while looking for some tips and tricks! I registered and am curious to see if maybe I can receive some help or a pointer in the right direction with my issue (because it's not really a problem).

So, at home I have my windows 10 and use the M705 Logitech Mouse with the thumb-button configured to show my application switcher (Shows open Applications on current desktop and at the bottom a list of virtual desktops), which I LOVE.

Que coming to work. "Here's your windows 7 laptop."

... "thank you?" I do get it, security is important and they have it set up specifically to tailor their needs, so, while a tad disappointing, I understand why.

Anyway, I'm setting things up the way I like it and found that the windows 7 application switcher (ALT+Tab) isn't really that fantastic. I installed the SetPoint from Logitech because my mouse is more comfortable and was surprised to find that they had implemented a type of application switcher for windows 7! All in all, it works like a charm. The only downside being is that the animation is quite slow.

I've been souring the Interwebs for a secret setting and the install files for a config file to adjust but with little (I mean none at this point) ... Read more

Hi there,
I have recently run into a problem with my desktop that I was hoping you could help with. I shut it down 2 nights ago in the usual way, but when I turned it on the next morning, windows failed to load up. I get the usual PC model page (In my case "zoostorm") and then the screen goes black, no windows loading screen or anything. I've tried getting into safe mode with f8 but that doesn't work, and I've also gone into the page where you can do a Troubleshoot, System Restore, or Reinstall Windows. (Sorry, I don't know the name of that screen). I am unable to do a system restore as I don't have any restore points, and trying to re-install windows failed because when it restarts during the installation it takes me back to the same black screen as before and stays there... Another curious thing is that when I press the power button to turn it off again, it instantly turns off, there's no few seconds where it does its closing down thing, it just instantly turns off as if its not actually running anything.
I'm at a total loss, I cant think what may have caused it, and have run out of ideas on how to fix it. If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate some help with it, as my job involves me being able to use my computer.
Thank you James

A:Windows not opening on startup

The reason it instantly shuts down is because Windows hasn't been loaded.

Version of Windows?
Some PCs run fans at full speed until drivers get loaded and then settle down. So this may depend on how fast it completes the POST and hands control off to Windows.
Make sure you have latest version of BIOS (A17), latest chipset driver, video driver etc. for whatever version of Windows is running.

Hello everybody,

I have found a system utility called Baidu PC Faster that gives me a report about Windows and Application Services and Sheduled Tasks in startup. Since now I haven't found a better program for listing as many services and tasks in startup as Baidu does.

Let me be more specific. Baidu says I have 40 windows services in startup. It also says I have 22 scheduled tasks in startup. Wow, isn't that too much? Isn't that a reason for the slow start up of my computer? How can I decide what services / tasks to turn off?

What is the best way to manipulate all these services and tasks if I wish my computer to run fast and smooth? I don't think it a smart idea to search the Internet and learn about all these services and tasks. I don't want to become a Win 7 startup services/tasks expert! The only thing I want is my computer to run fast. Furthermore, I don't like the idea to constantly supervise tasks and services of my operating system.

Your comments are welcome,

A:Windows and Application Services and Sheduled Tasks in startup

Not sure I would trust baidu. The simplest way to do this is to open msconfig. Check the Startup tab, then check the services tab, while enabling "hide microsoft services".

Over the course of the past two weeks or so, my computer has been completely unable to open any web browsers. When trying to open them, they appear in Task Manager as normal for a few moments, and then disappear. Additionally, just one hour ago, when clicking the Quick Start icon for Firefox, I recieve the message: "Windows: Can't open this item It might have been moved, renamed, or deleted. Do you want to remve this item?"
I have run Malwarebytes several times, but it continues to assure me there is nothing wrong. (I apologise for not being able to post the logs obtained, but I'm writing this from an iPod touch, since the affected computer can't reach this site.)
The GMER rootkit scanner, which I had downloaded to deal with a prior infection, tells me there is some kind of rootkit activity going on. I have not used the program for anything other than the scan. (Note: Running GMER outside of Safe Mode causes a blue screen with smashed-up text to appear for a few seconds, then the computer shuts down.
I also downloaded TDSSKiller, which closes in the same way as the web browsers do, appearing temporarily as a process name in Task Manager, then vanishing.
To complicate matters further, Windows Explorer does not load at startup- to open it, I have to type its process name into Task Manager and load it like that.

Before this all occured, I had been suffering from another problem that seems to be fairly common on this forum, that being that all Google links in Fi... Read more

After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, start pressing the F8 key.
In some systems, this may be the F5 key.
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear.
Use the up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode with Networking and press 'Enter'.

Hello fellow 7ians

Just wondered if there's a way to open 2 ports via UPnP (specifically 113 and 3389) on startup, as my silly router refuses to give my computer the same IP every time. Yes, I know I could set my IP as static locally, however, I move my computer to various locations to "share" things

A:Opening an UPnP port on windows startup

You should be able to have your Router assign your PC a specific IP with its DHCP Reservation function. You enter that PC's NIC's MAC Address and then assign an IP address. That NIC/PC will always be given the same IP address by your router. Its all done in your router so it won't affect what you do on another network. You'll have to read though your routers manual for the correct procedure.

Hello All;

A quick backgroud to the issue here;
At windows startup, every single time, the help & support window opens with this error:
"The Help for this program was created in Windows Help format, which depends on a feature that isn?t included in this version of Windows. However, you can download a program that will allow you to view Help created in the Windows Help format."
So I went and pulled up this document on the Microsoft site (I cannot open Help files that require the Windows Help (WinHlp32.exe) program)

I read through this and downloaded and installed the windows help program to load older version help files.

This resulted in this error at Windows startup: "There was a problem running the macro. (1037)"

The above KB article covers this issue as well, which I proceeded with, doing the registry workaround.

At startup after doing this, a window pops open for a split second, literally a split second, all you see is a blink.

This of course prompted me to un-do the registry fix, as there is no way I'm going to live with an unknown file loading at startup running some macro.

Key point here, this is my business machine, I can't leave this sitting (I'm also the administrator here, so it's my responsibilty to fix) It has never caused any problems, there has never been a virus on this machine nor malware etc.

I'm simply getting really annoyed with this unknown "help file" loading at startup, or trying to I sh... Read more

An application we use to run reports runs very slowly. A couple of years ago I had this same problem and figured out it had to do with my hubs which were still running 10/100. I changed my hubs for HP gig switches, changed my ethernet cards in the pc's to gig cards. Everything worked great. Reports that took 30 minutes were now down to 2 minutes. Here is my problem I recently added an IP phone system and had to change my switches because the ones I had did not meet the specs for the phone system. I added gig Extreme switches with power over the switches which was needed for the new phone system. Since we did this the speed for reports has gone from 2 minutes to 10 minutes not as bad as it had been but still bad. Testing that has been done: I have run cat 5 cable from the workstation into the HP switch which had been running fine and left the phone on the Extreme switch which is needed for the phone to work. We tried running reports after hours when there was no traffic over the network. When this was done there were only 2 people in the office. Still took the 10 minutes or so. Please help.

Hi I'm new as a member here, so hello everyone.
I have a strange problem with my audio (or at least it makes itself known through the audio)  Upfront I usually keep my computer super clean and hardly ever surf unknown sites.  In addition I scan my computer regularly.  With that said, I have noticed that when I play audio (music) that the computer starts to static when I put a strain on the computer; meaning when I launch something new or a new search or even open programs.  The weird thing is that I never noticed it before but my computer habits have changed and I know leave my computer on at night.  If I restart my computer it almost never happens but when a day goes by without a restart it starts.
I read some of your posts and most of the time you good fellows ask for one of these so here it is.
One of my drives are used as a cloned server drive for family members to use.

A:Audio static when opening or using any other application

If you have front and rear headphone jacks, try the other one and see if it still does it. My guess is that you have some kind of crosstalk, and when the hard drive is being accessed you hear noise on the headphones. If it's speakers, try moving them further from the PC (if you have them right near it I mean). You might end up having to buy a pci sound card to avoid this (I always have when I had these problems), but it's too soon to jump to that conclusion yet, but, if I was a betting man...

Hi there

Is there any way I can force Windows XP to open files in one single instance of an application instead of opening multiple instances?

In other words: If you have an application open (e.g. Windows Media Player), and you doubleclick on a file opening in this application (e.g. a video file), the file will open in the same instance of the application (i.e the same window of Windows Media Player). Some other programs however (e.g. the VLC video player or the Textpad text editor), will open a new program instance (i.e. a new VLC or Textpad window). This leads to cluttering of open programs, each stacked with a single file - not very helpful. Can you force Windows XP to open all files in the same instance? Or is this a problem that can be addressed only within the respective applications?

Thanks for your help!

A:Opening Files in One Application Instance

This would be through the program itself. If I understand right, you want to open the program once and have multiple files open. For example when you open MS Word, you can have multiple files open in one session of Word. Is that what your looking for? If so, that is up to the program. Internet explorer is heading that way with version 7. Instead of having multiple instances of IE running to have multiple pages open, they implemented tabbed browsing. This allows you to have IE open once and have multiple "tabs" open, allowing for multiple pages open at a time and not have to launch IE over and over to do so. As far as the programs in question, your kind of out of luck.

A:Error Pop Up Each Time Opening A Application

Hello ah_wei and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean. It appears that there are multiple anti-virus applications running on this computer (Kapersky and AVG). Running more than 1 anti-virus application at the same time can cause file access and resource issues and if there is an infection the multiple programs can actually block each other from dealing with the infected file(s). I highly recommend that you choose which application you want to keep and uninstall the other one(s) to prevent these problems. The HijackThis forum deals exclusively with virus and malware issues. HijackThis does not have the capability to analyze performance, hardware or application issues. For these types of issues I would suggest posting to the Windows XP Home and Professional forum. The techs in that forum specialize in matters pertaining to the operating system, performance and applications. Let them know that you have been to this forum and that no malware was found. When posting to any other forum, do not post a HijackThis log or the post will simply be moved back to this forum for infection analysis. That is what HijackThis is used for and that is what we specialize in here in this forum. Also, when posting in any other forum for assistance, give as much detail as possible regarding any issues that are occurring. The more information they have, the better the techs can analyze the issue and make any recommendations for resolving it... Read more

A:Need application for opening most file types

Hi, We would need to know the file extension .xxx in order to help you. The name of the program the files are supposed to work with would also be enough. If these files are something you downloaded, they most often are .exe or self executing program installs. A double click will usually start the install. Some downloaded from the Internet programs come in .zip format, compressed, and you need a program like WinZip or PKUnzip to "open" them or extract the files to a folder. You may or may not then have to click the .exe file in that folder...
If they are pictures or email attachments, files you were sent- you need to be careful they are what they seem to be, as viruses are easy to get by clicking attachments to emails or by downloading the wrong things. If you list the file extension and/or tell us what the file is we can help a lot more. You should have "Show all files" enabled under View>Folder Options in Windows Explorer, and also the box unchecked for "Hide file extensions for known file types" to see the extensions and all files.
Adobe Acrobat Reader is a .pdf or personal document viewer and more, the free version is really all you basically need for dealing with things like online forms, tax forms specifically- and it comes with most pre-loaded systems.
There are built in programs (in Windows) to view text, pics, graphics, for Excel spreadsheets there are viewers you can download, same for Word docs, and so on.

Dear all,
I am having trouble with Windows 7, as I have migrated my computers from Windows 2000, and I am not able to run one application.
The problem I have is that I used to launch a process from a Unix machine through telnet into my machine.
For an unknown reason, I am able to start the process through telnet, but the process launches a GUI application which doesn't show up. If I run the process locally in the machine, the process starts and opens the GUI without any problem, but when I request the service to start by remote doesn't work.
The application is based on VEE Agilent SW, and I have read some forums about PsExec but still do not manage to make it work.
Should I modify some of the configurations of Windows 7 to unblock this feature?
Thanks in advance.
Best regards

How much RAM do you have on your machine?

So, I bought this laptop roughly a year and a half ago, and has been running fairly well. Recently (as in a few months ago) I noticed when I try and do anything remotely resourse intensive, it runs a lot slower. After a bit of research, I found out that it has to do with the mobile processor going to a lower clock speed (i.e 798 MHz) when not in heavy use in order to save power. However, even if I load something up, let's say Minecraft, the clock speed stays at 798 MHz, causing me to get a rather atrocious framerate. Occasionally, the processor actually ramps up to it's advertised 2,700 MHz, and when it does it's smooth sailing. Any idea as to why it's doing this?Specifications:CPU: Intel i7-4510uGPU: NVidia Geforce 840mRAM: 12gbStorage: 240gb Sandisk SSDHere is a screenshot of Minecraft open with HWMonitor showing the framerate and the processor clock speed: Thanks in advance,     -titanium_spork

Hi, folks.

I've been running Windows XP Professional for a couple of years, and in the past few months, I've had problems with my system launching my e-mail application (sometimes several instances of it) for no reason.

I ran Ad Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy on the system, and found nothing that should have caused this behavior.

Eventually, since there were a few other problems (notably with IE), I archived my important files and put them on another machine and then reinstalled Windows XP Professional. I figured this would create a fresh starting point for the machine and eliminate the problems I had been having.

I installed Mozilla's Firefox and Thunderbird programs, having grown to like them more than IE and Outlook. However, now my system has periodically begun to launch 1-4 instances of Mozilla Thunderbird for no apparent reason. I have not yet reloaded the archived files onto the machine, so I can't imagine what could be causing this behavior.

It happens in various situations, but most often when opening Word documents. It has happened while working in Word, but also when on the desktop.

I've got the computer connected to a Netgear router, with a cable modem internet connection.

This happened with Outlook Express too, before I reinstalled Windows XP Professional.

I had hoped the reinstall would handle the issue.

Can anyone help?

I use Tunngle to game online through LAN, and it uses a service named TnglCtrl.exe which uses 10mb of memory idle. Even though when I am not using Tunngle, it starts. If i close the service, Tunngle will refuse to run. So I would like to know if it is possible to do the following:

In Services, I set TnglCtrl.exe to Manual startup. When I would like to start the Tunngle application, TnglCtrl.exe would start automatically. Is this possible?

A:Starting a specific service when opening an application

Just have it on all the time...10 MBs of RAM is absolutely NOTHING.
You have way to much RAM to be concerned over this.

This issue started a few days ago and I tried getting help on a few other community forums before attempting here with no luck so far. First of all the most important aspect is the name of the application as it's the ONLY one giving me problems. League of Legends. No matter if I start it via it's launchers or it's game client executable or even it's own installer it will make both explorer.exe and the app's executable hung IRP or so I would believe turning the processes themselves zombie mode (can't kill or taskkill so on and so forth). Now I haven't really encountered this problem before so I am new to this one (I'm quite used to handling a PC and it's errors and what not but this one never occured to me so yeah it's a bit tricky to handle especially when it happens only with one of the many present applications within my PC). I don't know where to begin with in terms of specific info such as threads used, PID, etc so I'll just hand it over as requested to avoid any sort of confusion or whatever. I'm really hoping there's someone able to assist with such a problem as I'm starting to run out of patience and considering a format.
Also just so that it's clear enough. The issue as I presented has a crucial meaning: I can NOT restart/shutdown from within Windows 7 Ultimate itself once the issue is active. I can still open new processes that will work properly with the exception of poor performance for obvious reasons.

Having uninstalled Office 2007 on my Windows Vista 64-bit machine, I have been trying without success to install Office 2010 Pro 32-bit. Installation presents no difficulty but upon opening any of the programs within the suite, the installation screen appears to setup again followed by Office wanting to configure itself. This is very frustrating when you want to open a program quickly and until these screens finish upon opening Outlook, it refuses to send or receive. This continues again and again after each program closure and restarting.

Interestingly by cancelling them out by clicking "x", they do cancel leaving the program ready to use - but this shouldn't be necessary.

I believe this is a registry problem associated with the previous installation of Office 2007. I have uninstalled Office 2010 many times now, used Microsoft Fixit to clear all the previous traces of Office 2010 after uninstalling (even tried using the version for Office 2007, but it refuses to work saying that it's not compatible with my operating system!) and tried to clear all traces of "Office" from the registry, rebooting each time and then trying to reinstall Office 2010.

The same problem ensues.

Again interestingly installation always remembers my settings and data files for Outlook - proving that there is still something in the system before installing as otherwise how does it rember these and of course the whereabouts in my system of the .pst files, which are not in... Read more
