I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The u torrent made your computer slow. Check your Task MAnager for extra processes(remember to see processes for all users),check your computer with reliable anti-malware programs and antispyware programs like spybot S&D,Malwarebytes'Anti-Malware,Ad-Aware,and your AV program. Try online scanners like kaspersky and f-secure. If nothing helps, scan your computer with HiJackThis(post log here somewhere,I can't handle HJT logs. And dont AnalyzeThis)and OTListit by OldTimer(like a better version of HJT) Then put the Extras.Txt also in the mix as an attachment if this forum allows txt attachments. I would suggest malware from p2p sharing made it slow. If that fixes it,stay clean. Never visit any pornographic websites or download anything(except AV programs) without an Antivirus program like Avast!,AVG ,F-Secure,Norton etc.

Hi,
I'm having quite a few issues with my computer and just don't know enough to know what to do or where to start with what the root problem(s) are...or if this is even the right board to post to! I just want my computer to a point where it runs well again and to keep it that way.

Here's some info about my computer. I hope it's helpful to start with:
Windows Vista
Dell Vostro VOSTRO_200
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E7200 @2.53 GHz
3 GB RAM
32-bit Operating System

Here are the biggest issues lately:

1. On startup, the fan runs really hard and fast...almost like an engine revving up. It also does it if the computer has gone to sleep after inactivity. If the screen is left on, the computer will wake itself back up after a period of time and the fan will rev like it does on startup. This doesn't seem like a good thing...but I have no clue what to do.

2. Recently, I've been deleting old photos and files that aren't needed and using Slim Cleaner+ to clean up my computer to help it run better. Today, something happened after I did a run with the program and I started getting messages every time I navigated to a new page in firefox that said Adobe Flash 11.8 r800 (or something like it) has stopped working. I updated my firefox and went to reboot my system...and it didn't want to reboot. I had to hit ctl/alt/del to get to the option to go to boot system and managed to get my computer going that way.

3. I'm not sure if this is an internet problem or a computer problem...our browser h... Read more

I am trying to help a friend. Her computer would hardly boot yesterday, but after 10 minutes or longer, it would load. Programs hardly run and if they do are impossibly slow to run. Windows task manager keeps popping up. It won't close. We tried to set the registry back to an earlier date, but it won't take. My guess is that is a virus. She had AVG anti-virus running now it won't run either. Any thoughts? Any reliable online site which could scan the computer?

Hello 7forums. I have a problem with my Windows 7 Professional (32bit). I'll try to explain everything in detail.

Quote:
PC specs:
Processor: Intel Core 2 DUO CPU T5800 @2.0 GHZ
Installed memory (RAM): 2.0 GB
System type: 32-bit operating system

Yesterday I was using uTorrent to download some files (24 gigabytes +). It was downloading at a speed of ~7-8 Mb/s. During the download I noticed that the PC was running pretty hard and I checked in the Task Manager for processor and RAM usage, noticing that the processor was used at around 50% of capacity but RAM memory was used at 1.9 GB, that's around 98%.

I restarted the laptop and run the download again. Memory usage was about 1.4 GB. Then, I tried to open Firefox and go check something on a website and everything crashed. I unplugged the laptop (n00b way of solving things) to shut it down and then started it back. At this point I noticed that it took like half an hour to boot and show desktop. Also, everything was running extremely slow.

I inserted my Windows 7 disc and ran through the `Repair Windows` wizard. I left it like that for about an hour and it was just telling me `Attempting Repairs`. I stopped it at that point and then re-installed Windows by formatting the partition.

Now, when I start the laptop it takes like 5-10 minutes until it shows me the desktop (before was 1 minute). Also I noticed that everything runs extremely slow. All the drivers have been successfully installed (except ... Read more

Hey there,

For the last 2 to 3 days my computer has been running ultra slow and I?m pretty sure it?s due to this Trojan I found in my computer!.

i have used s&d program to scan and try and delete it but I don?t think it has deleted it in full. The virus i find is called WIN32.BHO.FDJ and within that there are 10 different entries. it also keeps disabling my antivirus program and also spyware program. Also won?t let me run a virus scan!

I?m running vista 64bit and have also tried using hijack this to delete some missing files, but it seems to not delete, they just reappear if I scan again. Even in safe mode. Please help me out have a look below at my hijack this log to help me find my problem.

I have a Lenovo G50; it's about 2 years old. My son uses it strictly to watch YouTube videos. All of a sudden it started running VERY slowly and freezing up. I ran a number of different anti-virus/malware programs (nothing came up at all) and finally did a reinstall of Windows. However, it's still running extremely slow and takes 15 minutes just to boot up. Does this sound like a hard drive problem? Any suggestions on what I can try next? I haven't gotten any error messages either - it's just very slow and lags/freezes.

Now when I start the computer it takes 10-15 minutes to boot completely and accessing Mozilla or any apps after about 3-4 mins takes ages. It runs so slow, something has it almost completely bogged down. I run spybot but after a while it freezes up.

Not sure what to do???

I was able to remove some spyware, but it didn't do much for the above issues.Thx, SamLogfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 8:04:21 AM, on 11/14/2008Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16735)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\WLTRYSVC.EXEC:\WINDOWS\System32\bcmwltry.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exeC:\Program Files\Broadcom\ASFIPMon\AsfIpMon.exeC:\Program Files\Microsoft Small Business\Business Contact Manager\BcmSqlStartupSvc.exeC:\Program Files\LogMeIn\x86\RaMaint.exeC:\Program Files\LogMeIn\x86\LogMeIn.exeC:\Program Files\LogMeIn\x86\LMIGuardian.exeC:\Program Files\McAfee\Common F... Hiya... new kid on the block here. I'm suddenly experiencing multiple problems. My yahoo messenger was hijacked yesterday, I received a server certificate error today that claims someone may be eavesdropping on me, the comp is getting slower and slower, and the startup and shut down is getting longer and longer. This is a used laptop that I received with issues to begin with. I thought the issues were resolved, but instead, they keep getting worse. I'm not familiar with HJT, and don't know where to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! ~Jesica

The puter is an HP Compaq 6730s
Running Vista Home Basic SP2, Build 6002
I'm using Trend Micro Internet Security Pro
I normally use Opera, but also have Firefox and IE

The error I received in Opera today reads in part: "The server's certificate did not match it's hostname. Accept?" The security tab says "The server's name does not match the certificate's name. (webpage and server info) Somebody may be trying to eavesdrop on you."

I'm fed up with this...recently I had 4GBs of RAM, and will, but for now I have it in my WHS because the 2011 release requires 2GBs of RAM...

But I'm very angry with the performance decrease. It's always been this way though. It always has this stupid performance decrease, and lowering my RAM triggered it and that angers me...

My computer takes about 10 minutes before anything will start loading... I've down new installs, used different HDDs, different motherboards, etc. Why! Why does a computer with a Core 2 Quad and 4GBs of RAM (usually it has that) respond slowly...

Is it because my RAM is only DDR2 667? Does Windows 7 not work well with DDR2 667? My CPU isn't the issue, task manager shows the PC basically doing nothing on boot-up. And then out of nowhere, Windows Live Messenger and Lync start, and IE9 opens when I clicked it 5 minutes prior to it opening.

I really want this XPS 420 to behave better starting up...it has a Q6600 and it's a relatively new install of Windows 7...it's a hardware issue, not a software issue.

Also the GPU is good too, ATI Radeon HD 5500 series. Well, new, not hardcore specs, but definitely Windows 7 compatible and DX11-capable. I don't know...

Hi and welcome to TSF! I will say right off that Norton (aka the resource HOG) is probably your biggest issue. There are a few things to clean here though......

This took me one Google search to find:
msnappau.exe is part of the Microsoft MSN toolbar system, which initiates an update facility for the MSN downloadable toolbar. Disabling or enabling this is down to user preference.

Ok, for the past few weeks, I had been getting a message that said a resource was missing, but I stupidly never wrote down what specifically was gone. It said that it could not open the Dell Dock because of it and windows explorer was running slow at times and restarting periodically. It did this for about three weeks, then, two nights ago, the computer froze, so I reset it, and it started on the green bar then black screen loop.

I tried running it in safe mode, no dice, and all other alternate boot options. It would hang up each time. Finally, I was able to get the system restore wizard up, this was earlier today, and reset the system to how it was 4 days ago. It actually opened Vista, but in low res mode and everything is painfully slow, except for the internet, which runs at normalish speeds.

Are there any possible causes or solutions for this?

I have a Dell Inspiron 530, and Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

Go to startup tab of Msconfig.

Uncheck everything except antivirus.

Reboot.

How many seconds does it then take to get to your desktop?

I'm unclear on your complaint. Are you complaining about boot times or about program loading times, after the boot process has finished?

Hello there,

Have you tried booting your computer in Safe Mode and see if you face the same issue?

Also do you have more than one Antivirus / Malware software installed in your computer? If yes, then you should only have one AV installed at a time as multiple AV's could cause the computer to be sluggish and slow.

Reset your PC

Resetting lets you choose whether to keep your files or remove them, and then reinstalls Windows. To get started, go to Settings > Update & security > Reset this PC > Get started and choose an option.
Option

What it does

Keep my files

Reinstalls Windows 10 and keeps your personal files.

Removes apps and drivers you installed.

Removes changes you made to settings.

Removes any apps your PC manufacturer installed. (If your PC came with Windows 10, apps from your PC manufacturer will be reinstalled.)

Remove everything

Reinstalls Windows 10 and removes all your personal files.

Removes apps and drivers you installed.

Removes changes you made to settings.

Removes any apps your PC manufacturer installed. (If your PC came with Windows 10, apps from your PC manufacturer will be reinstalled.)

If you're planning to donate, recycle, or sell your PC, use this option and choose to fully clean the drive. This might take an hour or two, but it makes it harder for other people to recover files you've removed.

I have an Asus 1000HA netbook with XP, atom processor, and 2GB RAM that is running and starting up very slowly. It also is freezing up frequently. Any audio skips, making dialog sound like the speaker is stuttering. (Video is not even either.) Fortunately, no blue screens have appeared yet. I've run scans for Malwarebytes (found nothing), AVG (found and killed 2 corrupted files), run disk cleanup, and defragmented. I tried a system restore, but it would not complete and an error check would not complete ("Windows is unable to complete the error check"). I've thought about trying a registry cleaner, but I've seen conflicting reports about those.

Any suggestions about what could be wrong and how to fix it? Thank you!

While using computer last night trying to update my games and the various applications to ensure the system is safe, I kept getting these Zone Alarm Alerts that  bit-torrent rundl32 - u torrent and other various run32dll WinSys alerts notifying me that they are trying to access the internet. when I went to open Zone Alarm, I was startled to notice that both the fire wall the id protection tabs were disabled leaving my system vulnerable.  The last time I checked to update Zone Alarm was just a couple days ago.  I have this set to be done manually. And, when I checked it a couple days ago, the Zone Alarm was all up and running fine. So, either the update I just completed on it last night caused the program to be rendered vulnerable, or possibly whatever possible virus I have on my wife's computer caused ZoneAlarm to crash.  However,  I select the deny option on all request on the above mentioned alerts to access the internet.  I did not download this U-Torrent or whatever other program is causing all the problems, but evidently found out that my son is the culprit. He has been trying to download free peer to peer mp3's again for his Ipod.  So,  I ran the free version of Avast Antivirus, and it discovered (1) virus, called, " Wind32.Malware-Gen. After I ran the initial scan, I rebooted and let it complete the full bootscan.  It stated that It eliminated the infection and stored it in the Virus Chest.  Next, I ran a free ESET onli... Hello I hope that someone can help me with my computer system it is taking a very long time to startup and is continuing to run slower and slower. The hard drive seems to run continuously at startup for several minutes and running programs is getting slower all the time.

I have cleaned up the programs I no longer use and deleted files in temp folders and cookies as well as ran disk defrag all to little help.

Virus software scan shows only minor adware when ran so not sure what is happening.

I am posting a HiJack This log for review. Thank you for any help you can provide.

A:Slow Startup and slow running - downloader trojan maybe?

Update.

I believe that I have solved the majority of my problems. Seems like was primarily a problem with anti spam system of security software causing endless load and unload loop to the hard drive.

Looking at the Virus Logs I noticed that I did have a Trojan intercepted back in December that I believe the virus software caught before loading on the computer.

Disabled the anti spam protection and ran also ran a Registry Cleaner "Registry Booster 2"

Computer runs much better also ran a couple of other scans SuperAnti Spyware and Kaspersky online.

Short logs so will post them here for review.

Posting new Hijack This Log.

Thanks

Hi, all,

I've had this laptop for about two years. I got it to use for college, so it's seen a lot of action and travel. I noticed about three months ago that it was running very slowly, startup takes an inordinate length of time, and it will just randomly hang for no apparent reason. I took it in to Best Buy (because I had the protection plan), and they ran diagnostics and found "42 traces" of malware/viruses, but told me that none of them were dangerous. So, being tech savvy and not wanting to pay them $200 to deal with it for me, I brought it home and ran Malwarebytes, AdAware, and Emsisoft Anti-Malware. They found a bunch of stuff and cleaned it, but nothing that came up was anything drastic. As far as I know, that's taken care of.

It's still running really slow. I was told that my protection plan only covers hardware and not software. I uninstalled Emsisoft because I thought that maybe it was just taking up too much of my resources, but it's still slow. Also, sometimes my Metro apps don't want to open. It's really random and extremely annoying. Does anybody have any thoughts on what I can do to see if there's something that is screwing this up, because I'm really getting frustrated.

If it's any help, here's my Speccy snapshot: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/nWuLy3G55iiZZHTteEAVwOM

Thanks!!

A:PC running slow, metro apps slow to open

I've had a look at your Speccy report and nothing jumps up and hits me. Do you think you could download and run Farbar's MiniToolBox. It's a free download from BC -

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/minitoolbox/

When you download it, save it to your desktop and just run it. It doesn't install and you can delete it when you are finished with it if you want to.

 Mini toolbox.PNG   14.54KB

Select the buttons as shown in the image. It will produce a report in .TXT format, just copy and paste it into your next post.

One possibility is that you may have a lot of temporary files slowing down your system. I can recommend Piriform's Ccleaner, also a free download from BC -

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/ccleaner/

Just one word of warning here, one part of Ccleaner is a 'registry cleaner' - do NOT use this tool, but it is very good at getting rid of temporary files.
