Hello,
my problem is that when the user try to register one of his finger, Dell Data Protection show message Error RN:02000068 failed finger registration, finger already registered.But when I go to admin the fingerprints of Dell Data Protection software, the number of registered fingerprints is 0.
Can anybody help me?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

can anybody please help me out i am trying to get my fingerprint reader to work the original software does not work anymore this laptop originally came with Windows vista on it i have since installed windows 7 and onto windows 10 the original software is not compatible with windows 10 so it tells me when i try to install i am about to the point to ware i may just sell this thing so i don't have to worry about ti Dell needs to provide updated software for any of the laptops just because it's an older laptop doesn't meen it doesn't function like it should .

Please look here for instructions on how to use your fingerprint reader with Windows Hello.  If Windows Hello doesn't detect the finger print reader please reply here with the model of your notebook.  I can't promise anything here but I won't hurt to see if there isn't drivers are utilities that you can download that will work.

Hello, my sister recently dropped her dell latitude d520 and when she turns it on now it says no bootable devices and no hardware detected. I was thinking about buying a new hard drive online and replacing the old one. Any ideas on where to buy? And also just to make sure will the Operating system she had before still be there or will i need to install a new one? Thanks

If the hard drive has failed, the operating system will also be a "gonner" so you'll need to re-install Windows on the new drive.

However, to be quite certain that it has failed you can test it with the drive manufacturer's own diagnostic software for DOS. The links are here: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287

The DOS version is an ISO file from which you can create a bootable CD using IMGBurn: http://filehippo.com/download_imgburn/

When you've created the CD, boot your sister's laptop from it to test the drive using the "Long" or "Extended" test if available.

Can someone please tell me how may pins total are for the memory (i.e. 204 or 240).
Also I want to upgrade the cpu to a i7-3740qm and I don't know if the fan & heatsink that came with mine (i5-3320 I think?) can handle it for playing steam, stream movies, and multitask. If you can give me a link for were I can buy the heatsink and fan I would be very happy.

These never shipped with 45W quad CPUs - they're designed for 35W.  You can use the i7-3520m, but the quad may not even boot - and if it does -- it likely will overheat.  There is no other option for the heatsink-fan assembly.
The memory is DDR3 or DD3L, 204 pin soDIMMs.

When I bought this refurbished Venue is didn't have the fingerprint reader software on it. I have tried adding the tablet to my dell downloads machine list so I can get the software. But when it goes to scan for the tablet. It scans, then just stops scanning and never finds it. Can anyone help me get the software?

I bought online a Dell Latitude 3450 two months ago. It has Windows 7 and 64 bit OS. The computer came already installed (not at my request) with the Dell Data Protection (DDP) programme. Booting up the computer, I went thru the typical wizard installation process of the DDP programme. Naturally, this programme then encrypted my files. A small key icon was overlayed onto the typical file and folder icon to show that the file was encrypted. After a few days I had transferred music onto my ipod but it wouldn’t play because the music files were encrypted. As a result, I went into the DDP Programme and ticked a box to un-encrypt the all of my files (the key icon dissapeared, and I was also able to play the music on my ipod). There were no other issues with any of the files after this - or so I thought.
About a month later (last week), while working on the computer I began receiving a pop up window from DDP programme telling me that there were new policy updates and that I had to sign in with my password to receive these new updates. This window kept popping up every 2 minutes for over an hour, so I decided to uninstall the DDP programme as I didn’t think it was of much use anyway (this was done through usual Control Panel – Programmes & Features). After uninstalling the DDP programme I found that I was locked out of all of my files – word, excel, pdf, jpeg, etc….everything. I was also unable to access Outlook Express and my emails. I have just purchased last week a Dell Inspiron laptop. I received the Mc Afee security package with my Sky Broadband however when i attempt to register it it goes all the way through the process and then at the last minute says there is an unexpected error and to try again later, however this happens every time. The Mc Afee is now saying my computer is not fully protected as it has been between 8 and 29 days since updates were checked...is anyone able to help, why can't i register?!

I'm able to create a policy with an installation script, but since it's a computer based policy I cannot install DDP|E form the file share in AD and don't want to enable guest account on the file share.

I am using Windows 7 Professional on a Precision T3610 desktop machine.

Some time ago I spent time trying to uninstall the Dell Data Protection software which came with the computer. However not all has been removed, I think I uninstalled in the wrong order and some still remain.

The program is no longer available, however, starting my computer is now a pain, first up comes a box saying Dell Data Protection/Security Tools.. Please Wait.

Then after about 3-5 minutes a box comes up and says: ?The Biometric Functionality Is Not Working? and two options are given: ?Log On Without Biometric Functionality? or ?Wait 30 Seconds and Prompt again. I choose The ?Without Biometric? option and then the normal Windows & start up proceeds.

I really need to uninstall this it is driving me crazy. Dell Data Protection is listed in add/remove programs list however it is never successful, when I try and uninstall after a few minutes a box comes up saying

?Error 1721. There is a problem with the Windows Installer Package. A program required for this install could not be run. Contact you support etc?

It then rolls back the uninstall. I have tried various uninstall programs all with the same result.

Some folders remain in C:/ ProgramData/Dell. These are: CommndUpdate. Dell DataProtection. Digital Delivery and Drivers. There are eight files in the Dell Data Protection folder.

It has become a right pain. Anyone any ideas how I can rid myself of this Dell bloatware?

Latitude E6520 Windows 7 64-Bit fresh install, installed the Dell Data Protection, enabled the encryption feature and it was working for a few days.Today, I tried booting it up and "Exception thrown (RN:01A00002)" After clicking "Ok" I'm in an emergency recovery mode. I entered in my password and it states that it's invalid. I even double-checked my backup password on my flash drive (it forces you to create) and verified my password IS correct.Now I have a Samsung Evo 850 SSD that has it's "Self-encrypting" feature enabled so I cannot wipe the drive to re-use it.I tried in Ubuntu, Diskpart everything. Any thoughts??

Hello Speedstep and anyone else reading in the future after this gets indexed.Speedstep, while I appreciate your rapid response it is wildly inaccurate.Dell's Data Protection Access utilizes a company called "Wave" that creates a lot of different security software suites (ie Embassey Security).They have an article here:After talking to a person regarding the error, this occurs when their software is used on a drive not yet supported by them or a software glitch/drive corruption. I found that in my case it was because their using TCG OPAL commands 1.0 whereas my drive supports the newest 2.0 commands.This caused my problem. So - how do we fix it ?I found a few blackhat tools that allow you to communicate to the drives self-encryption piece, however they were un-successful. After some digging, there is a PSID hardware password on the SSD. I found that someone added to their drop-box Samsungs PSID reset tool.
Running this CLI tool allowed me to reset the SSD back to factory specifications and remove the self-encryption caused by the DDPA.  Yay! Now I have my SSD back.Speedstep, I did replace my SSD with another and I was able to use that successfully without any modifications to my TPM or Bios. Again I appreciate the fast response however!If anyone needs the Samsung PSID reset tool, feel free to just post below and we'll get in touch.

My user forgot the credentials, and enter a lot of wrongs passwords, and the screen only shows "The device is locked, contact your administrator" and with no options, what so ever.

Hi, I'm a happy owner of a Dell E5270 and on The base plate there's a fingerprint sensor. However, when I install the recommended drivers there are no biometric devices. What is visible (in device manager) is Dell Control Vault w/o fingerprint sensor. Is it possible that there is a sensor but that The system lacks the optional fingerprint unit inside the laptop housing? There are no exclamation Marks in the device manager.
Secondly I've found the Dell DW5811E 3P10Y wwan card for the dell e5270 at a bargain price but i would like to know where to finf the cables in the housing? .

I got this problem for a long time I tried to reinstall my dell m4800 three time still does not change anything.
I am having Dell M4800 Precision Workstation, I recently install windows 8.1 on it. I installed the Dell data protection | security tool, it's running fine. I can login through fingerprint and password fine every time. However, whenever windows 8.1 install an update that requires restart to finish install, right after I restart, I input my password, swipe my fingerprint, but system keep saying login is incorrect, I just can not login. I use restart, the laptop won't restart, it shows restarting for 1 minute or 2 and goes back to login screen, not power off and on at all. I have to press power button to power down my laptop and power on again in order to logon, and after that, windows just running slow, I have to reboot several times in order to recover its speed. And I tried resinstall windows and everything 3 times the problem keep showing up, and I pay attention to windows update, I notice that as long as the windows update requires a reboot, the problem will showing up, there is not particular update causing this problem, anyone have any idea?

Looking at how old this post is and the fact that there are no answers from Dell's "finest", I doubt my issue will be addressed either.
My issue involves the same POS software. I can log into the laptop just fine and enroll a finger for my domain admin account, HOWEVER - this software is preventing me from using MS Remote Desktop.  RD client loads and I can supply my username and password, but the client locks up when I click connect.  I'd like to be able to log into my laptop with my finger, but I can't have this software installed with this problem that it causes.  When I uninstall it I can log into Remote Desktop without a problem.  This has to be fixed.  I am running Windows 8.1 Pro x64.

I do not know enough about pc. I have a dell E6420 laptop. My neice was trying to load adobe reader. She came and told me the screen was flickering and the color was blue and pink art work. I restarted it and remove from the download folder adobe.
The screen is now pink, until you enter the password, then it becomes blue and pink swirl artwork.
I perform SFC scannow, CHKDSK on the command line, and perform tests by pressing F12; in all cases no defect was found. I also perform diagnostic test in safe mood.
i think she may have dropped and did not tell me.[note]
I plugged an external monitor and the display is okay. Question: do I have a driver problem or defective screen, board or cable. Thank you for any help.

My father just got this "fresh" notebook from his job (wiped clean, and the DVD drive mysteriously replaced with a floppy drive)

Anyway he called me up and asked me to install a fresh OS on it for him, however halfway through I started to hear what sounded like the hard drive screeching/ or grinding against something.

So of course I immediately shut it off and remove it to see whats up, didn't find anything out of the ordinary with the hard drive itself (TOSHIBA), stuck it back in and suddenly "Primary Hard Disk not found", checked setup and made sure it was still set to on.

I also noticed that one of the fans has stopped running completely. Not too sure about this but I think either the hard drive miraculously went bad the day I got it, or some power isn't getting to where it needs to be.

If you guys haven't noticed, I'm a n00b when it comes to laptops (never owned one and never will), if I left anything vital out please let me know, specs are below

The Canon Faxphone L75 attached to my XP sp2 computer stopped working overnight. When I go to printer properties & try to print a test page, it fails. sometimes I get the message "windows explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close", but, I also got a message that windows data protection had caused the program to stop.

My windows automatic update is set to download updates automatically, but to prompt me to install them.

I read on another post about turning the Data Protection off by editing the boot.ini, but I can't find my boot.ini, and in msconfig the boot.ini doesn't have the parameter shown that was in the post. I forget exactly what it was in the other post, something like /noprotect=alwayson, or something like that.

I just want my printer to work. thanks for any help.

I hope someone here can help with my question.. My new Dell Lattitude D630 with Windows 7 istalled was bought from Amazon. I've owned it only 8 days now. I'm so glad I have it. I've never owned a Dell laptop before, only Dell desktops.
My question is, why is my screen dim when the computer is on, and plugged into the outlet with the cable? Let me clarify. During the day when I have the laptop on, whether plugged to an outlet or not, the screen brightness is fine. In the dark, with no lights on or any light source pointed at or around the laptop, the screen is very dim. When I turn on lights the screen goes back to its full brightness. Is this a normal function of the Dell Lattitude D630 or is my laptop faulty? Does this laptop have some sort of light sensitivity that it needs a source of light to power the screen brightness? I hope someone can clear this up for me. Thank you.

The ?Ambient Light Sensor? is available in the Latitude D 630 laptop. The feature of this sensor is mentioned below.
This field configures lets you enable or disable the ambient light sensor in the computer. This setting has no effect when the computer is operating on AC power.
Off ? the ambient light sensor is turned off. You control the brightness of the system's LCD panel using the brightness hot keys (<Fn> and the up-arrow key and <Fn> and the down-arrow key) and the Brightness fields in this program.

The factory default setting is off.

Annoying problem with a recently repaired dell here at work. We just received this laptop back after it had to have a hard drive replaced (second time) and now I can't get it to connect to our wireless network.

I downloaded the latest driver for the wireless card and installed it. The dell diagnostic program pops up and tells me that the radio switch is off and I need to slide it to the on position. I look at the switch and it is in the on position. I flick it off and on just to test it out, a little icon appears as I switch it to the off position, letting me know the switch is off, then another when I switch to the on position letting me know the switch is on. The diagnostic program however still says the switch is off, and will not let me select the option to enable radio.

I've gone through the control panel and the device manager and everything I can see that should be enabled seems to be enabled, so I'm at a loss where to look next or if perhaps something else was messed up in addition to the hard drive cooking itself and they just never caught it.

The wifi light will not react to anything. Switch on, off or if I slide it to wifi catcher (which opens but shows no wireless networks), no blinky none of the time. The computer seems to know when I'm sliding the switch, but it's just not doing anything.

Is it enabled in CMOS setup? Are you using Windows to manage the WiFi? I believe the Dell utility allows you to turn the radio on/off from within it.

I bought a "guts" Dell Laptop Latitude D800 to replace a bad MOBO on an Inspiron 8600 (they are the same MOBO--essentially I purchased a shell with no LCD, no RAM, no hard drive, and no video card). I then just transferred the video card, ram, hard drive, and LCD from my 8600, plugged it all in, but the thing won't boot. I cleared the CMOS battery. It charging the battery--all the lights go on for about 5 seconds, then go off. Sometimes the CPU fan will run and then the lights will stay on and you have to pull the plug and battery to turn it off, but no boot, no beeps. I tried hooking up to external monitor and nothing--just can't get any boot screen or anything on the screen at all.

I can return this the seller or send it back with my old laptop and they will get it working for free (the catch is they keep the old laptop, which I really don't care because there is nothing left in it of any value) and then send a working one back to me. I may do that--if the mobo is bad, obviously I have to send it back, but its more of a curiosity to me as I saw that this is a common problem when searching the Internet. Mysteriously, some Dells seem to not boot, then boot for apparently no reason after a week or two or after some combination of keys.

Any suggestions?

BTW--these are completely compatible models--the MOBOs are identical in every respect, so I am sure its not a compatibility problem. Even if it was, I should get some beep error if there is a video c... Read more

Are you sure they are identical? From what I can tell the D800 uses DDR266/PC2100 RAM but the Inspiron 8600 uses DDR333/PC2700 RAM.

We are trying to connect our Dell Lattitude D600 to a Xfinity modem with a built in router . The cable tech tried for 3 hours . It managed to pull up a main webpage, but when we try to search beyond that , the page goes blank The Laptop is running Windows XP system and has a built in WIFI .

any other devices working on the wireless OK ?

do a full power cycle and then try again - see below

then connect the PC to the router by cable and post an ipconfig /all

if you still do not have a connection try safemode with networking

check the cable - see if there is a light on the router associated with the cable port used , also check if you have a green/yellow light on the PC LAN port (some PCs do not have any lights on the LAN port - so ignore)

safemode with networking - see if that works

I have a Dell Lattitude E6430 notebook , with a Transcend 240Gb SSD drive. Running Windows 10 Pro.
Dell diagnostics has cleared all hardware.
When the notebook is running from AC or docking station is works perfectly fine and I experience no issues.
The moment I run off battery , the machine will just lose power , as if AC was pulled out of normal desktop. When I boot machine on battery it would boot to windows , allow me to log in, but as it loads startup items it will power off. I do not have a lot of unnecessary startup items to begin with. In very few instances it has allowed me to work for approx 10min before doing this.
The supplier has replaced my notebook, except for SSD, and memory modules which were transferred to new unit.
Now I cannot see how this could be related to the components or notebook, as surely it would be doing the same with AC plugged in, which it is not?? Which is telling me that this might be software related.
Anyone else experiencing this issue? Any advice? As this is really annoying not being able to run off battery!

That message is normal when there is no OS on the hard drive, the laptop is attempting to boot over the network. You need to install an OS.

My work have just given me a Dell Lattitude E7240 which has a 3.5mm 'headset' jack which i understand means it is a combined headphone and microphone jack - does this mean it functions the same as the headset jack on a mobile device? can I use the same type of headset? if so how do i configure it? I have tried but dont seem to be able to get sound.
to elaborate, when i plugged my headset in, i got a pop up asking me what sort of device i was using (headphone/speaker out/headset and some skull candy options) so i selected 'headset;'
when i check my sound settings i can see the green bar showing input against the mic (Jack Mic) and when i test the sound i can see the green bar moving against Realtek High Definition audio but can't hear anything through the headset  I Have nothing muted either in Dell Audio or Windows.
any tips or guidance on what type of headset i can use, and how to configure it would be gratefully received

Hello, sorry for the delay.
The combo audio jack uses a phone headset with a TRRS plug. There might be a problem with the Realtek audio driver. To check that, switch to the Windows native audio driver and plug in the headset. With the native driver the mic probably won't work but the headphones definitely should, so if they don't then there is probably a hardware issue. In that case try other headphones or headsets and if still nothing works contact tech support for a repair if still under warranty.
To switch drivers:
1. Open the Device Manager (type devmgmt.msc in the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the Realtek driver,  do it again but reverse the names in steps 1 and 6.]

Just received today new Dell Lattitude E6400 laptop from ebay.Trying to to get this pc set up for my elderly mother.Windows 7 is installed on this.Can't seem to find any good info on this problem.The cd/dvd tray will not open.The tray seems to have 2 buttons on it.My laptop only has one.Is one button a lock ? I ask because sometimes by accident open the one on mine.Anybody got any clues about this laptop ?  Any help greatly appreciated.
 
Found a way to manually open the tray with a paperclip.But,this problem still exists.The tray won't open and it will not play a cd.

Right click on computer from the start menu and left click properties   on the left hand side click on device manager.. In the device manager under CD/.DVD Drives  click on the plus sign and right click on the name of the device that drops down and left click uninstall. reboot the computer and see if it fixes that..   If that does not work... reboot computer to the BIOS screen (might have to press the "DEL" Key to launch ) see if the drive is detected there if not its a drive issue

Start Windows Normally

I choose Start Windows Normally then a blue screen pops up with the following:

How do I fix this problem???

I've read a few things on this problem already, but not sure of the process completely. I would greatly appreciate your help!

My Dell e6420 laptop originally Windows 8 with upgrade to Windows 10 worked fine for months after upgrade but recently the touchpad is giving problems. The cursor moves skittishly, or slowly, or freezes. I've tried f12 diagnostics which shows no problems then touchpad works but fails again. I downloaded Alps touchpad driver off Dell website, but forgot to delete old driver. Now when I look in the task manager it shows Alps driver twice with different icons and did not before. ( Each takes .5 mb and seems dumb having both going) Please advise if I should delete both and start over or how to id and delete the oldest one) Still not sure a new driver was going to fix the problem but I'll cross that bridge if it comes. Also, while thinking of duplicate processes I would like to clean out unecessary ones but don't know how to figure out what is junk and what is not?

Hi,
I have a Dell Latitudde E6420 and the device randomly has started to not boot from the battery. I started it up with the charger and while booting the device displayed a message about the battery not being identified and saying that the battery is not from dell even though it is. I contacted Dell technical support about the issue and after taking the service tag they said that they can not help me because my account is on hold... Which confused me because I never bought the device from Dell, I bought it from Best Buy therefore I do not have an account with Dell, and so I was transferred over to Dell financial services to dispute the issue, but I can not speak to them because the automated bot constantly is asking for an account number. Is there anyway I could receive some sort of help for this? It'd honestly be a great help.

We have recently received these new model type laptops from Dell in our company, but we seem to have issues trying to image them. We currently only can support UEFI boot imaging, but this particular model of laptop does not let us choose the boot order or pick the NIC manually.When I go to Legacy mode, I can boot network without issues, but on UEFI it does not let me select anything. Even trying to select the boot manager results into no choice and continues loading Windows factory installation.

Any solution to this? How can I boot to PXE while in UEFI?

What operating system are you attempting to install on these?  Note that 10 is the only OS supported by seventh-generation CPUs - - you must use a 10 image to boot from.
