Handheld scanner / smartphone on windows 8.1

Q: Handheld scanner / smartphone on windows 8.1

Hi,
I'm looking for a solution to solve the next problem.
I have a handheld scanner /smartphone (Datalogic Memor) that i want to use. I want to install the driver for this to put the smartphone as a drive in the filesystem. The supplier of the scanner/smartphone doesn't supply a driver that is
working this way.
I've used Windows Mobile Device Center and Synchronisation Center before , and that worked fine. Now i want only to install the driver from the update package drvupdate-x86.exe.

I don't get the driver separated from this package unless the fact that i isolated the MSI package out of the driver update package.
It Always seems to install he WMDC application anyway. But in windows 8 that functionality isn't necessary, because i dont want mail, contacts or documents to be synchronised. I just want to browse the file system!

I want to use this solution in our company on windows 8.1 devices.
Please, can anyone help me out here?

Matthijs.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I was given a new gizmo at work last month its a barcode reader with GPRS using win 5 mobile op sys.
I have to take it everywhere and wondered if there is any way I could find out if ..

1/ It has GPS
2/ Is it enabled

We were not given the original box and the company say its not gps enabled which I doubt.

From a freedom of movement perspective I need to know if the eye in the sky is watching me.

Thanks

I am trying to determine the best course of action for our future development.
The company I work for is adopting new Windows 8.1 Embedded Handheld devices for our retail locations.
These devices will be running in house developed applications connection only to our intranet (no internet) probably on our existing domain.
The question I have is would we be better off side loading our in house applications to our devices ~300 and if so what is the best approach to take to accomplish said side loading?
Or would we be better off creating a company developer account, developing a Company Hub application and publishing our applications through the windows store,  again some guidance on the best way to get our company started on this path would be greatly
appreaciated.

We have been out of date for some time, this new project is to replace Windows CE 5 devices and appliations, so please any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

From the start of connecting my LG G3 to my Windows 7 pro 64bit computer I could not get windows to recognize the phone. In the device manager I saw a driver named VS985 4G. Querying this driver returned "Windows cannot initialize the driver for this hardware (code 37)".

I deleted the driver and connected the phone again. The system automatically reinstalled the same driver and everything worked again, until the next time I tried to reconnect the phone to upload.

It worked that way for some months, then recently when I tried to delete & reinstall the driver it installed a driver named MTP USB device, returned the dialog "Driver Not Successfully Installed" and the device manager reported "Device cannot start (code 10)".

So I next went to the LG site and manually downloaded the driver I entered as VS985 4G. Installed it and again the device manager identifies it a LGE Android MTP device, with the same code 10 error.

I cannot get past this. I tried a system restore but because of limited restore space I couldn't go back more than 2 weeks, and that didn't help. Solution?

When I connect the USB cable to the Bluetooth headset and then to the PC, Windows 7 tries to recognize it to install a driver or something, and then it claims the device has malfunctioned and tosses up the error 43. I tried restarting, uninstalling the unknown device, restarting again and re-connecting, but no such luck. The thing is, the PC still seems to charge the headset perfectly fine, and the headset pairs with my phone without an issue.

I'm not totally annoyed by this issue, I managed to get the headset for 15 dollars on Ebay and so far they work perfectly fine and like I said, they will charge via USB or I can connect my AC adapter and charge them fine that way. Just curious why 7 is trying to install drivers for a headset, it didn't try to do that with my old Skullcandy headset.

Recently I bought a new dell laptop, having windows 8.1 installed. But this new one is giving me too many problems with my smartphone. My smartphone is no more detected as smoothly as with previous one. And laptop frequently gives out a background sound when android device is connected to it.I m really annoyed with all these problems. It is hampering my android development work as device is detected only intermittently.
Please help me.

Although sounds are an issue, this is not really a "sound" problem (this forum section). It is more an application software issue.

We are wanting to purchase something on which we can view PDF documents which are on a network, for use on our shop floor. We want something small, like a pda, because of the work area. As I said, all the documents are to be stored on a server, so we only need to be able to access and read them. Can anyone recommend anything? Cheers.

A:Handheld/PDA

Practically all PDA's will read PDFs.
I run a Palm Treo and a Toshiba PocketPC, both have free PDF reader software.

You would need one with WiFi, and a Wireless AirPoint installed on the network, in the immediate area that the PDA was used to get access to the server documents though.

I would suggest an IpaQ or similar PocketPC.

The biggest limitation is the small screen size.

This is the beastie that we used to use at Staples (US Stores) - http://www.fujitsu.com/downloads/SOL/ftxs/brochure/IPAD.pdf

A fun little wireless toy. And it does everything you asked for. Only problem is, it is freakishly expensive.

Now the thing is, it works on WinCE - so does my 10-year-old HP Jornada 680, which can be loaded with pretty much the same programming, and even have a scanner attached to it (if you can find one that is). The other nice thing about it is that it’s a palm-top, which means it works like a laptop, and allows for easier working conditions, since you don’t have to teach someone to use it as much as you do with the Fujitsu beastie. Thing is, the iPAD is quicker, has more memory, has everything built in, and of course is more up to date. It’s also available to rent.

I am trying to connect a jornada 680 to my nt 4 server. i am using wins, and dhcp. When i try and connect to the network i do get an ip address. I can ping the handheld from a pc with the ip address, but i cannot ping the name. When i try and access a share on the network from the handheld it says bad network path. I am thinking that it might have something to do with wins, like maybe it is not running properly. In the dhcp manager it shows the ip address of the handheld but it does not show a name. So i guess my question is how do i verify that wins is working properly, and does it sound like a name problem? Thanks

We are looking at deploying handheld devices for use in our retail stores. Does anyone know of a way to make an alarm go off if the devices leave the store? We are concerned about one being set down and grabbed by a customer and taken away, and also an employee walking off with it.

I am thinking about a proximity sensor that we could read off a wireless network or have a GPS locator tool on them.....

Just seeing what people might be doing to keep these expensive handheld devices from walking away. It is harder to secure these since they can fit in a pocket easily unlike a laptop computer.

Can anyone recommend a good portable device for reading ebooks, .txt files, etc?

Reading is basically the only thing I want to do with a portable device. Don't need to listen to music, don't need to store contacts, write email or any of that stuff.

I'm just looking for a good device that I can read books and articles on when I'm on a plane or in line, etc.

Anyone got any suggestion on which device to look into?

Rest assured I'd appreciate any advice anyone has to give.

Thanks in advance,

Ok, silly question. I'm thinking of buying a handheld. What I essentially want to do is have it connected to a home wireless network. Is this something that can be done? I am specifically looking at the iPAQ (not sure of the model though). I don't know much about them. I would like to use it as you would a laptop, of course minus some things. I currently have Verizon DSL and would create a wireless network via that.

I apologize if this is a silly question. I just don't want to buy it and then not be able to use it. My job requires me to be online on messageboards and have access to email, so, would this be something I could do via a handheld when I want to sit outside for a bit? (Yes, a laptop would be better, but $$ is tight, and I'd rather upgrade my desktop. )

I appreciate any help/information.
Thanks,
Erin

A:Handheld and wireless network

You would need an iPAQ that has an 802.11b or g (I think they are only b right now) wi-fi card built in. They do make them, but they are the higher end iPAQs and a bit pricey.
Good luck,
Cwolly

I have a Rolodex Elecronic Organizer RK-8302. I want to back it up into Microsoft Outlook. According to my Rolodex software, I can back up my Contacts into Outlook up through and including 2002.
My OS is Windows XP (version 2002), that comes with Outlook Express. I have two questions:

a) Can I back it up to this Outlook Express, or do I need the full version of Outlook 2002? (I have not been able to back it up to this Outlook Express, and I don't know if I am doing it incorrectly, or if I need the full version). If I need Outlook 2002, I will purchase it.
b) I was able to back it up into my Intellisync software; however, I lost some of the data in my organizer. I am wondering if that is because I backed it up by Exporting the contacts from my organizer rather than Synchronizing them, and what is the way I can be assured of backing up and retaining all of the contact information in my organizer, by Exporting it to wherever (Intellisync or Outlook are my two choices), or by Synchronizing it?
Thank you so much in advance. My last question posted received exactly the answer I needed, so I am looking forward to this response.

I was wondering if anyone can help me with a wireless problem. I would like to use my IPAQ 2210 as a wireless extention of my HP pc; ie. I'd like to be in my kitchen and be able to surf the web as if I was actually sitting in front of my computer. My pc is brand new and I've got a Comtrend DSL modem that I use for AOL broadband. If possible, I'd also like to somehow use a wireless webcam through the IPAQ. For me to do this, would my PC have to be on AOL or could I be able to log on with the IPAQ as if it's just another monitor? Any help to get me going would be greatly appreciated. And if anyone could suggest the parts I need, that would really be great. Thanks.

A:Linking my handheld wirelessly to my PC

First your Ipaq must have a wireless card. Then you need to have a wireless router. Now you can setup your IPAQ to surf directly from itself and if you still want to do it from your pc then you need a remote control program.

My PC just died which had XP Home installed, and I have never had a problem recording with my microphone such as for recording karaoke. So since my computer has died, I've had to install my karaoke programs on my father's laptop/notebook. This lappy has Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installed.

My problem is that when I talk into my microphone, there is a slight delay and makes me sound like I'm talking in slow motion and is so distracting that I can't even thing straight. I've tried many tricks I've found on the web, but most of them were a few years old. I've tried uninstalling the sound drivers and running the updater tool. I've also tried to set it as having priority than other recording/listening devices. I figured by now this would have pissed off enough users that Microsoft would have fixed this issue.

Thank you,
Todd

A:Microphone(Handheld) has 1/4 - 1/2 second delay

I have a recording studio. The "delay", such as trying to sing along with a Karaoke disc, is called "Latency". PC audio systems are notorious for this. We also face this with our "professional" audio recording interface devices although they can be adjusted for lower latency. This is not a "Microsoft" caused problem, Apple MAC's have the same issues or those with Linux recording systems face the same Latency problems.

Usually there isn't much you can do with the PC's sound chip audio system. Most that want to do this will buy a USB connected recording device, such as the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 or one of the many other similar devices.

I would appreciate if anyone that has a handheld device with an internet connection could help me test a small screen formatted page I'm putting together. The page aggregates IT security newsfeed headlines from NIST.org, SANS.org, and FIRST.org. Headlines and summaries are specially formatted for Blackberrys, Treos, Windows Mobile device, or any other handheld with an Internet connection. NIST.org links go full news stories that are handheld formatted. You can get their by typing 'nist.org/small' from your handheld (I figured you didn't want to type, poke, or scratch too much from a handheld ). This page is currently in Beta so any and all comments or suggestions are welcome (please include what type of device you use). It just came up last night.

Comments that would benefit others should be posted here at BleepingComputer.com.

-- THANKS!

A:Blackberry / Handheld Security Site

It looks pretty good. From a web designer point of view I think I might try to reduce the amount of information on the main page. Its a lot of information to go through on a handheld device. The summary after each link is a little long, so I would try shortening those up a little bit and maybe reducing the main page to about 3 or 4 continuous pages. This way the page wont seem as overwhelming nor will it take as long to load up for slower connections.
I'm connecting from a Blackberry 8100 Pearl using EDGE, GPRS, and WiFi 802.11n. I have tried each of the connections to check speed. When using a GPRS, the page loads much too slowly and, since that is one of the most common ways devices still connect to data transfer services I would defiantly try and clean up the amount of data per page a little.
What every it is you do to condense it a little make sure you have flow in mind. Remember people who access websites from a handheld can become very lost because it's difficult to get a full picture. So the tend to stick to websites they use often. So if you want this site to be successful in the handheld community your going to have to make it very easy to navigate from a handheld. anything that is used often that people are familiar with from the main page, just provide a link...
Hope that helped a little. I'll try checking back every one in a while. If there is anything I notice I'll be sure to let you know.

I need to know of some good PORTABLE network analysers that are top of the line. I have looked at Adgilent and Fluke though none seem to have EVERYTHING I am looking for wrapped inton one package.

Must haves -

Gigabit functionality.
Muti-copper cable type testing 5,5e,6,7
Full cable testing including shorts, splits, loopback, length, distance to fault
Single unit (I don't want to have to buy 3 different units)
Network analysing capablities.
Remote connection to unit via Web Browser interface (something that doesn't require a client on a PC to access this unit remotely).

Would like it to have - lower on the list is less important

WAN Aware
Wireless a/b/g support
Packet Capturing

Anyone have some nice high end network tools they use they want to tout? Remember it must be portable something I can grab throw in the back of my car take out to a site and bring home with me. Money is an object on this so the cheaper the better but we also don't want to "skimp".

Lets hear your thoughts.

A:Good top of the line network handheld analysers?

I have a mad way of dealing with these sort of not sure what to buy problems. I go to eBay buy someting real cheap that seems to fit the bill find out what I really need then go buy it. Sometimes find el'cheapo is all I need other times it gains me experince that I can't put a price on. If its not what I need I sell it again on eBay.

Found with the fluke network analysers that they are so big that most of the time they stay in the bag when a far cheaper Lanscraper comes out every time. Also you may find you need a stack of different adaptors which may be bulkier than serveral individual units. Ok so havn't used any of flukes latest kit but have only ever needed it to certify structured cableing after installation.

Had this problem before about two years ago and I can't remember how I resolved it.

My Compaq IPAC 3765 stops charging in cradle after Microsoft ActiveSync is complete (charge light stops blinking, "battery power remaining" shows 100%). When I disconnect it from the cradle it indicates only an 80% charge. Hence, charge is never full and I go halfway through my day when I get the "low battery" message.

I've disconnected the USB, rebooted and performed a soft set...nothing works.

Can anyone help me, please? Thanks, it would make my day!

If you have everything backed up in Outlook you could try a hard reset, then let the battery drain completely - charge on the cable first then back on the cradle.

About 2005 i bought a PURE DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY handheld flip video camera. Works excellent except, the USB connector that flips up to attach to a computer to get media out is broke. I insert it into a computer and the computer does not see the camera's USB

It has a slot for , i believe, for a flash drive to retrieve media. Issue is i cant seem to find the flash drive of that size to insert.

PURE DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY is no longer in business so the product support is almost non existence.

I tried adding device drivers for the USB method , none worked
Thinking my best bet is to find a flash card thingy to get media out.

My computer expertise is about 6 on a scale 1-10
edit: slot on top of camera is 1 inch wide by 1/4th[?] length

Hi,
I am new in WinCE and Handheld machine programming.
i have gone through the visual studio 2005 and found Pocket PC emulator but i am not getting how to map keys of handheld device to WinCE in VC++.

i mean we have softkeys on handheld device like 4 arrow keys, one center button and 4 other keys on left and right, what is meaning of those keys and how to simulate those keys to the keyboard.
suppose if i write a program in vc++ for desktop machine then we have mouse and keyboard when any press then window generate WM_KEYDOWN event but what will happen in case of handheld device.
Please let me know in detail or give me some hint or possible sample code to understand the whole procedure.

When I synchronise the calendar of my Nokia E61 with my calendar on Outlook, and share that calendar with another user on our office network, the other user cannot see details of my appointments. All my calendar entries appear to the other user as "private appointments". However, If I enter my appointments directly into Outlook, the other user can see the details as I have entered them.
Any ideas much appreciated!

Peter

I would dig into the settings on the Nokia, it is probably marking your appointments as private by default. When you look at the imported appointments are they marked as default in your Outlook?

You've forgotten "5 - Prices"
