Vostro 460 i5-2400 Graphics card upgrade

Q: Vostro 460 i5-2400 Graphics card upgrade

Hi
I have recently acquired a Dell Vostro 460 i5-2400 with the onboard Intel HD-2000 graphics.
I am wanting to upgrade the graphics card to support HD video streaming and some gaming.
Searching through this Forum, I have found information about supported cards (using the existing 300W PSU), but many of these are too old to but new. I have also read about the nVidia GTX 750Ti and Radeon R7250 working OK with the vanilla Vostro 460.
I have a budget of about £50 and am considering the following cards which appear to be compatible with a 300W PSU:
nVidia GeForce GT 730
nVidia GeForce GT 720
Has anybody had an success/issues using these cards with a Vostro 460? I am open to other recommendations or suggestions that fall within my budget.
Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just seen a post made by a member yesterday on the same topic! This member bought a GT 730 and it appears it is not compatible with the Vostro 460. A reply stated that the following cards are tested and compatible:
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 420
ATI® Radeon® HD 5450
ATI® Radeon® HD 5670
pci-e cards are tested by Dell and are compatible. GT730 is not tested.

If possible, please can somebody add a list of more modern cards that are tested as working with this desktop?
I might just have to bump my budget to £100 and get a GTX 750 ti (assuming this will actually work!?)

Hello,
I have a Vostro 460 and I wanted to upgrade the graphics card. I just bought a Gygabye with nVidia GeForce GT 730 2GB GDDR5 card assuming it was going to work fine on this PC. Wrong assumption. It simply does not boot. It displays the initial POST but it doesn't go past it.
This video card is PCI-e 2.0. I tried to check prior to the purchase the PCI-e version of the Vostro's motherboard and with big effort I found in one the posts of this forum that it's 2.0 (it doesn't say anywhere, motherboard or manuals). Also, the minimum hardware requirements are met: minimum 300W power supply: the stock PSU is 350W. Cool!  But no so cool, it's not working.
The BIOS's firmware is up-to-date. I can't figure out what's the problem as the card is compatible with the motherboard. It should have worked first hand. And I don't think the power is a problem.
Any ideas?Thank you

Hi,

NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 420
ATI® Radeon® HD 5450

pci-e cards are tested by Dell and are compatible. GT730 is not tested so cant really comment on the same.
Hope the info helps.

Can anyone please help me? I am very new at computers and I am trying to install a new graphics card(Radeon 9250). I had my onboard graphics disabled but windows reinstalls it. I insterted the ATI disc, and I recieved the message,"try to set up with display adapter with standard VGA driver before running set up". Got me. I have a Dell Dimension 2400, 768MB RAM,and I am so unsure of anything else. Please help if you can!!!!!

A:Insalling graphics card on dell dimension 2400

Have you physically installed the new graphics card into you pc yet?

If not then you'd be best doing that first. Then Windows should pick up the fact you have a new card and instruct you to install the drivers etc etc which is the point where you install the drivers off the CD that (hopefully) came with the card.

I've seen a few threads on this site and toms hardware as well regarding the Dell XPS (8300 in specifics) having issues with graphics card upgrades.
I bought an R9 380 a few months ago. No signal, the card wasn't defective.
Thought it was my 460 PSU, upgraded that to a 550. No signal.
I sold it, and recently got a Gigabyte R9-270x 4gb windforce edition. No signal once again.
Now i'm at a loss, I really like my computer but the old GeForce 440 isn't really what I want to stick to.
If I were to replace the motherboard would this fix my problem with the graphics card? Or what could I do to get this card to work in my system. I don't want to have to return it.
Also, I have updated to the A06 Bios but without any luck. Thanks a ton.

I am considering the above machine, but need to drive two monitors in extended desktop -  note that this is for basic webpages and not intensive gaming.
Having looked around on the web for a budget card, the GTX 750 gets good reviews generally. Its capability is beyond what I require,  but it seems to be the best compromise from what I can gather.
My question is, will this fit into the above-mentioned machine?  Its length and height seem to be fine, as do the power requirements. I wonder though about the plate of the card that slots through the PC case.  it looks double width to me and I wonder if the PC case is big enough to accept this? I have had a look on the web and cannot find an answer.
I have considered the other option of driving a second monitor from the USB3 port, but this is not a clear cut option either and so I may be better considering the graphics card upgrade.
It anybody can suggest a better method,  or a more suitable card then I will be happy to consider all options.
Thanks in anticipation of your help.

The Dimension 2400, that was released in 2004, is an obsolete entry level PC, not a gaming system.
Only PCI graphics cards are supported, check out the following:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1UH4M58429
The requirements for playing World of Tanks, are here:
http://worldoftanks.com/en/content/guide/general/system-requirements/
Note the minimum requirement, is for a Dual core processor.
It should be fine for web browsing.

Hello
My son has a Vostro 270 Mini Tower with an i5 processor running Windows 10. He’s finding his games are lagging a lot. The graphics card is a Nvidia GT 620. We put in 16GB of RAM. Now we want to upgrade the graphics card. I’m thinking of this one:
Zotac GeForce GTX 1060 1152 NVIDIA CUDA Cores Mini 3 GB GDDR5 Graphics Card
It’s a mini card so I hope it’s more likely to fit in the mini tower chassis.
Could anyone please confirm if this would be compatible with the PC?
And it says the recommended power supply would be 400w, whereas we just have 300w now. Is there a particular kind I should buy? This one seems good value, would it be the right kind?
Corsair CP-9020097-UK VS Series ATX/EPS 80 PLUS Power Supply Unit, 550 W
Any advice gratefully appreciated!

Someone help me here my 2400 can't play great games like counter strike source and battlefield 2. So I'm wondering if a radeon ati graphics card will work with my system.

A:Does a Dell Dimension 2400 have the ability to have a pci slot radeon graphics card?

Ouch, just checked it now, you have no AGP slot

Yes, you can install a PCI graphics card, however, be warned that these cards perform horribly, but you will be able to run CS Source.

The best PCI graphics card I can remember of is
GeForce FX5500 128MB PCI version.

It will run CS Source and BF2, however, prepare for a slideshow (especially in BF2).

Hi all,
I recently bought a Vostro 3668 i7 7700 that came with a R9 360 card. From a little search on the web I saw that the TDP for this card is 85W, so I thought that it wouldn't hurt If I buy a 1050 Ti with 75W TDP  (/w stock speeds no extra power cables) to replace it.
Is there anything that I should be aware off? Any BIOS settings? Does it matter that I replace a single slot card with a dual slot card?
I am currently looking at these 2:
ASUS Phoenix GTX 1050 Ti
EVGA GTX 1050 Ti GAMING
Thank you for your help

A:Vostro 3668 new graphics card

Unless your applications require nVidia support, this is going to be a lateral move, not an upgrade.  Those two GPUs are pretty evenly matched in terms of performance.
Yes, it may matter in terms of size - many smaller cases like the one you have won't take a dual-slot card.

Greetings all!
I was given a Vostro 460 with dual monitors and as it is, the stock video card has one DVI output and one VGA output. All is working well with that setup however because of the two different video output types, there is a noticeable difference in the picture quality that cannot simply be corrected by the monitor settings. I however have another unused video card that has dual DVI outputs that if possible, I would like to use but I do not know if it is compatible with the 460. Here are the specs on the video card...
ATI Radeon HD3870 DDR4 with PCI Express connection. Also this number: DM-XHD670XTG4-512
Can anyone of you please tell me if this video card is compatible with my Vostro 460? I would really appreciate any and all assistance on this. Thank you.

NOW if I take the card out and use the onboard VGA it works fine. The NVIDIA GT 210 worked fine too.

Why does this card not work? Is there a solution to my problem?

I have an older Vostro running latest Win 10, with a  0YJPT1 motherboard which has a PCI Express and I am trying to add a GTX 1060 graphics cards. Have updated BIOS, turned off Secure boot, enabled legacy mode and installed the drivers  but the graphics card won't work - no input is being sent to the monitor.
What else can I try? Or is the motherboard not able to support the graphics card.

A:Is GTX 1060 graphics card compatible with an older Vostro (motherboard 0YJPT1)

Most of these require a 6- or 8-pin direct connection to the power supply -- if yours does, how are you powering it (most power supplies in Inspiron/Vostro don't have the required connector)?

According to the owners manual the first few lines of the BIOS/System Setup section indicates that the amount of memory dedicated to the integrated graphics and the ability to enable or disable it are options in the BIOS.  The BOOT method is Legacy instead of UEFI, the BIOS has been reset, default options loaded, etc and no where are the specified options visible.  BIOS is version A7 which I believe was the version that it was shipped with and the latest.  This is not a huge issue, but the fact that the option is missing from BIOS and needlessly using a bit of RAM is enough to see if anybody is aware of an issue.
I haven't contact support yet as I just got the box yesterday as a replacement machine at work.  I have already torn the thing apart looking for the old school jumper method of turning off the integrated graphics with no luck there either.

A:No way to disable integrated graphics on Vostro 270S when using PCIe addon card

Just a bit more information.  The add-on card is a NVidia NVS280 or NVS285 LP with pigtails to dual VGA.  With monitors hooked up to that card it has worked perfectly fine so far.  I haven't tried one monitor on the integrated card and the other on the card to verify both are still working, but the Intel integrated graphics still shows up in device manager and is using system memory.

A:Is the ATI Radeon 9550 / X1050 graphics card compatible with a Dell Vostro 200?

If the card will fit in the box it'll probably work for you. When I looked up Dell Vostro 200 they were built into two kinds of cases. There was one type built in a slim case and the other type built in a mini case. The mini case is much wider than the slim case. It looks like both types of cases sport motherboards with X16 PCI-E slots for adding an aftermarket video card. Trouble will arise if your 9550/X1050 video card has an AGP connector instead of a PCI-E connector, or you have a full size video card and a slim case.

Hi everyone....

Current PC specs listed above ..... to get it out of the way I am a gamer......

This upgrade is to allow me to play some of the newer games such as The Witcher and also to enable me to utilize DX10 when I eventually upgrade to Vista.

RAM.....this is what I have found...I do not overclock and I am very happy with the matched pair of Corasir XMS 512MB 5400C4 running at 533 that I currently have so I figured the safe bet is in just jumping to a matched pair of 1MB sticks of the same.....

I do have a budget and from the reviews I have read this card should carry me through the gaming world for at least the next year (hopefully 2) I like eVGA and I have nothing but good things to say about the eVGA 6800GS that I am currently using.

But if anyone has some input as to problems with the card listed below or if you know of another card that will perform just as well (or better) for around the same price I would like to hear about it.

Hello,
I got a new job so I can afford to upgrade my computer finally. I have recently upgraded to a 4 core cpu which I love so much! Better then a two core. Any ways, on topic, I have a ATI Radeon 3200, if you read my post before, most likely not because it was long time ago, but I'd like to upgrade to the ATI Radeon 5670. I found out I have a PCI express x16 slot so it will handle it. But I'm confused by the watts. My power supply gives me the measurements in volts, 100-127v, 50/60Hz, it is a ATXO300DSWB power supply. I couldn't find my graphics card specs anywhere.. not even on AMD's website. But compared to the 3400, I'm guessing it is about 400-550 watts, since the 3400 requires 550 watts.

[EDIT] Upon more research, I found out my current graphics card, the ATI Radeon HD 3200, is an onboard graphics card. Will I still be able to upgrade?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please and thank you!

A:Graphics Card Upgrade - Help!

Usually the product model of a power supply contains
the power rating of the power supply.
Usually,not always.
From you model I would guess it is only 300 watts.
Going to need to upgrade that.
Get something like a corsair,OCZ,antec or something
similar of good quality.
Probably want at least 600 watts.
Im assuming you have a standard ATX case.
You can add the video card to the pci express X16 slot and more than
likely disable the onboard video in the BIOS setup.

I've searched and found a few posts on here questioning upgrading the GPU in the H30 but I haven't seen any follow-ups from people that have actually done it. I'm in the same position with an H30-50 with a GT 705 that I want to change - ideally for a GTX 750Ti but I've found that it draws a bit more power than the GTX 745 which is on the Lenovo hardware list.  Lenovo list 2 ratings of PSU (180w and 240w) and I have a 240W.  The max power of the 750 is 60W against 55W for the 745 - which would equate to drawing about  2% more power on the 240W PSU.  Not much more and possibly within tolerance, although I have already added an SSD. Anyway, I'd be interested to hear from anyone that has actually upgraded their GPU in an H30 or comments about upgrading to a GTX 750Ti. For info the comparisons are shown below.  http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/compare.php?cmp[]=2815&cmp[]=2843&cmp[]=2952

A:H30-50 upgrade graphics card

Seems like it should work. As long as your computer case fits it, and BIOS supports it, then seems fine.

I'm a Lenovo advocate, part of the Lenovo INsiders program. #LenovoIN. I don't work for Lenovo.

A:Upgrade graphics card

yep, you can run a agp 8x in a agp 4x slot as long as the card says its backwards compatible

altho, with that huge bottleneck, i dont think its worth getting the 3850

my last system had a agp 4x slot, couldnt tell a difference at all when i upgraded my nvidia 5200 to a much better agp card.

save a couple of bucks and try the 3650 agp card, it also supports 4x/8x agp

link to one is here

2600 doesnt look too bad either, bout the same price as card above

Although my computer is less than a year old, I think it's time to upgrade some of its parts. Mainly speaking the RAM chips, and video card, all in the name of improving gaming experience. (Half life 2 on full power requires one helluva beast of a machine to run flawlessly).

I've got a Toshiba Satellite A75 (not sure on the other 4 numbers, but I will find them) dual 3.06 Ghz P4's, ATi Mobility Radeon 9100 IGP AGP internal DAC (400Mhz) (128Mb) I think 512MB RAM, but on the system info screen it says I've got 384mb RAM. 60 (56)GB hard drive. Matshita DVD-ram RW. My screen can run up to the 1280x800x60hz setting, which it's on normally, and sometimes reduced for games. Anything else I left out, let me know.

I think I've found the RAM chip that I want, the Kingston 1GB DDR SODIMM . It's the most RAM I can cram into this Toshiba, or at least the most that is listed as per Toshiba's website. A member an another board recommended THIS. It looks like the same product and has the saem specs, anyone think it's different or see and conflictions? I think this needs to be upped as sometimes during HL2DM, I get a blue screen of death saying that a memory dump is being performed, and I have to restart.

I was hoping to stick with ATi as the current chip I have now has been good to me, and HL2 seems to run a little better on an ATi chip.

I can't really find another Mobility Radeon chip for sale, even though ATi has them listed on their si... Read more

I'm a graphic artist using my fiance's computer HP All In One 20-d034. My question is I'm a member of Adobe CC and run the latest versions of Photoshop & Illustrator mainly. I'm unable to use the 3D functions of these programs due to OpenGL issues. Can I upgrade the graphics card? The drivers installed are the best that I can get for the factory installed card.

I am currently using a GeForce MX/MX 400 graphics card. Forgive me if the answer is obvious, as I am a bit illiterate when it comes to computers, but should I upgrade to something better? And if so, how do I know if a better graphics card is compatiable with my system or not?? I hope this isn't a hard question to answer... cause if I have to upgrade half a dozen things on my computer BEFORE I can even get a new graphics card... well, I really can't afford that, lol.

I am into PC gaming, and games seem to be needing higher minimum requirements all the time, which is why I am considering the upgrade. The graphics card I'm using now had a driver issue, where I have to use 56.73 to play Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines, but that driver won't let me play City of Heroes. I have to upgrade the driver to 66.93 to play that game, but then the Vampire game has horrible graphic issues suddenly, so I have to rollback to 56.73 again JUST TO PLAY THE NEWER OF THE TWO GAMES!

I figure that maybe an upgrade would fix all this, and probably wouldn't hurt anyway since newer games will probably require me to upgrade later on anyway.

If anyone could shed some light on my situation, I'd appreciate it, thanks.
