I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Good day!
After installing the latest update for Windows 10 (Version 1607, OS Build 14393.222), the screen just went black! I noticed that I'm already logining in windows from the light of the fingerprint but I couldn't see anything on screen.
I tired to format everyting in the PC and reinstall Windows back again through entering the Recovery Screen. I was able to get the screen back but this time the brightness was full and I couldn't change the level of it. I did some search about this issue and then I manually update the display adapter (Intel HD Graphics 520) from the device manager. After this update the screen went off again!
I then tried to reinstall windows again and I connect my laptop to HDMI port. I was able to view everyhing in the extended screen but when I project to the PC screen I don't get anything.
I disabled the Intel HD Graphics 520 driver and by doing so I was able to see the screen back in PC. So it seems it's a driver issue. I tried to uninstall the driver and reinstall it again with the lateset version (Version but when I enable it the screen goes black again.
Now the display adapter is disabled and I can't change anything in the screen settings or control the brightness. What is the solution?
Also the screen goes black while browsing some sites with malicious content.Yesterday was going through a site
 I encountered black screen.
What is the solution?

Hello fellow P52 owners! I have a problem installing the latest NVIDIA drivers provided by Lenovo (https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/THINKPAD-P-SERIES-LAPTOPS/THINKPAD-...) If I run the installation package that you can download from above, it will go through, prompt you to restart. After the restart, the NVIDIA driver version is unchanged, the Intel driver does get updated. I am now on NVIDIA driver version, this package was supposed to update that to Turns out, the installation package runs the NVIDIA installer in silent mode (using a batch file), and ignores any errors it throws, and just silently continues. If you run the installer manually without the -s switch, it will show the following error:  My P52 has the following specs: i7-8850H and NVIDIA P3200 card, FHD screen, Windows 10 version 1809 (17763, boths builds .168 and .194 same result) I also tried another P52, with the same results: i7-8850H and NVIDIA P3200 card, 4K+touch screen, Windows 10 version 1803. Any other P52 owners willing to try the installation and reporting back how it goes?

I want to play the Crysis Demo and they recommend the Nvidia 169.01 driver. I have an 8800GTS 320mb. I downloaded it and then ran the driver. About half way through it slows down, and then the screen goes black. This isn't to unusual, other driver updates have done this before. However, this continues for hours, and there is an intermittent beep from the mobo. Any ideas?

I am new to this forum and i hope this is the right category.
So i was playing heroes of the storm when suddenly my screen went all weird with a sort of horizontal purple-ish lines across the screen. My computer didn't respond to any mouse or keyboard input so i restarted it hoping it would be gone when it booted up.. it was. until shortly after it happened again. First those now flickering lines and then they were gone and came back and then a complete crash. i restarted my system again and the same thing happened and right before it crashed it gave me the following warning: ''amd display driver stopped responding and has recovered''. I have an AMD radeon HD 7770 series video card.
So i thought that it must be something with either my driver or my video card. When i booted my pc up again it never got to the login screen... just a black screen. I tried booting up in safe mode what worked and disabled the display driver. Booting up normally it worked until it didn't. Back in safe mode i checked the display driver in device manager again and it wasn't disabled any more. I now uninstalled the driver completely but when i booted up black  screen... Back to safe mode and sure enough.. the driver was reinstalled. I then disabled some windows function that automatically re-installed it and when i now boot up normally it was fine. Checking the device manager i see that i am now using Windows Basic Display Adapter.
So i go to the AMD site to download th... Read more

A:Installing AMD driver causes black screen.

This very well could be a hardware problem, I have seen this countless times with bad video cards and or power problems, rarely a motherboard pci-e problem. Likely, this is either psu related or the video card itself, these were the 2 most common causes if no software changes took place. If you happen to have a different video card to test with, that would be the fastest part to replace to start with.
One thing you can check for inside your computer is for blown or bulging capacitors, check the motherboard and the video card.

Welcome to Sevenforums,

Does it make the same with the Intel vga drivers Msi provide for the motherboard ?

Those were x32 or x64 VGA drivers?

I also would upgrade my Ram to 4gb even if the minimum requirement is set to 2Gb for Windows 7 x64bits

I own a custom laptop on an MSI 16F2 platform. Few weeks ago my GTX 670M card died.

Out of better options, I bought an used GTX 660M from an acquaintance.

I had it installed, started Windows and everything looked OK. Then I installed the Nvidia drivers and after reboot, right after the loading screen, I got a black screen (with the screen still lit).

I went into Safe mode and uninstalled the driver. Then installed again and got the same result. Went into Bios, change settings, tried resetting CMOS, nothing worked. Installed Windows 7 Ultimate again, then Windows 8, same thing. I also tried the driver modding instructions on this forum, still nothing.

I have no clue what is wrong. If you have any idea, please help me with this.

Thank you,

Hey all,
having some graphics card problems and would appreciate any help.
I built two identical computers for my parents from spare parts and some new components just to give them something to use until they can buy something newer. Both work fine with the onboard graphics, but video play back performance is obviously low (very choppy). Trying to install an upgraded graphics card and does the same thing in both systems.

System specs:
Dell Optiplex GX260
Windows XP home, SP3
2.4GHz Pentium 4, 1GB ram
Onboard graphics is Intel 82845G

Graphics card I'm trying to install is a PNY VCG62256APG
This is a Nvidia Geforce 6200 card, ddr2 256 mb, 4/8x AGP interface
Should mention the card was new last winter and hasn't been installed in any other PC's.
When I install the card and boot up it shows the specs of the graphics card in the upper left corner. Goes through the normal bios and windows boot screens. Windows opens in a low res graphics mode, says found new hardware etc etc, loads nvidia driver from windows update and prompts a reboot. After the reboot it goes through the load screens again and shows the windows boot screen with the progress bar for about 15 seconds, then just goes black. Monitor says "no signal" and goes into stand by. If I restart in safe mode I get a signal back and can open windows but in low res of course. Tried updating driver with the newest one from nvidia's website and no go. Does the same thing. All other drivers on the... Read more

after that, no matter how many time i reboot the computer, it stays the same although safe mode works flawlessly. i haven't tried uninstalling the driver in safe mode after it started black screening me since i didnt thought of it at the time and this is my 4th reformat. from last reformat, even though the driver provided by Nividia causes the black screen problems, the one provided by HP didnt cause any problem. and sicne the last few black screen problem and reformat, my computer stopped showing the HP's splash screen when turning on, it just stays black until to the login/welcome screen.

Hey, guys--I need some urgent help. A friend of mine has been having trouble with her laptop's display driver, and to make a long story short, she uninstalled (intending to reinstall it since the driver was apparently fully up-to-date.) and got a black screen, forcing her to turn her computer off. Now she'll try to boot it up but the screen will remain black, we've tried:

Unplugging it and the battery and holding the power down for 30-60 seconds to no avail.

I assumed that it may still be loading everything up--just not displaying it, so I told her to hold down F8 and press down 6 times and enter to boot from the last known safe configuration, but when she held down F8 the computer didn't beep like it usually would opening up that prompt--and we weren't able (We don't think?) to boot from that.

I'm at a complete loss as to what to do--she's a college student, so her laptop is of vital importance, I need to try and help her resolve this ASAP. I'm giving her instructions over the phone.

She can turn the laptop on and the power lights all come on, we just can't see anything--if we did manage to get to the F8 menu we weren't able to see it. We're basically flying blind, and her computer didn't come with any sort of installation discs--even so, she needs the files stored on her computer. If anyone can offer any assistance as to how to restore her display, you'd be saving us both a lot of grief.

My computer is Dell desktop running Windows XP Pro SP3. I installed a new display driver and after restart I saw the "Windows XP" logo but nothing after that, NO login screen. Wait for 20 minutes but still nothing on the screen. I think the computer completes its power up but nothing on the screen. I manually power down and then power up, again same exact thing: screen went blank after "Windows XP" logo. I did not see any booting options like: safe mode, Last Known Good, ...
I then put in windows XP CD and boot from CD then after loading, I chose "Repair" and then see DOS Command window.
with C:\Windows". I type dir and see listing of directory. But don't know what to do.
I think if I can some how get the original display driver on the windows XP CD to my computer so that it will use this instead of the one I installed last night.

Please help. Greatly appreciate your help.

Yesterday my computer shut down and restarted with a message that read "Serious error: Display driver error." I followed many of the options the error message directed me to such as updating my display driver (Radeon x300) and doing many other updates that Windows had recommended; along with diagnostic tests that led me to no conclusions. I have not had the display driver error message pop up since, however when (and if) the computer does restart I am only able to me on the computer for a limited amount of time as the screen turns black and the monitor light turns amber. Sometimes it will switch back to green and eventually come back again; but other times it does not. In addition, whether or not this is unrelated I don't know, when I restart the computer a message appears saying "Drive 3 not found Press F1 to continue, or F2 to setup."

I'm not the greatest with computers but I'm sure I could follow along easy enough with some layman's terms. After being 2 days into trying to solve the issue, any advice or suggestions are much appreciated. I'm happy to provide any more information if anyone needs it.

It then just sits there until finally a blue screen crash. I then have to go in to safe mode, uninstall the new drivers and put the old ones back on.

I have tried burning the newer drivers and installing them from a disc directly through device manager but i have the same issue. It did, however, correctly install the newest beta drivers i found here (180.42) but when i tried to run either Warhammer Online or WoW it said it couldnt find a correct display driver or something.

Hey i had the exact same problem until i found the solution i dont know whats the deal with all the people trying to overcomlicate things. If you updated your nvidia card and get a blank screen the problem is most likely the same as mine because the new drivers put the default screen to the tv so just connect your card to the tv and put the default to your normal screen.

Hi guys. I've searched over the forums for a similar problem and I've found that people say to boot in safe mode. The problem with that, however, is that I only get a black screen when I start up and don't know how I would boot in safe mode. This started after I updated the display driver. Reformatting would not be an issue if someone could explain how to do it without being able to see. Thanks.

Booting into Safe Mode is done during the initial boot stage by pressing a key (as per your manual) - are you not seeing ANYTHING during boot (the Bios screen)?

So I just recently put a new HDD in my brothers computer which has now caused it to start giving a black screen with a white line across it on startup after the windows logo.

It was fine before this and the only way I have found to solve this is to boot into safe mode and uninstall the video card drivers.

The drive was previously run in RAID on my machine and formatted afterwards, so I dont see why there would be any issues with with, nor the video card.

dell optiplex 320 running Windows 8.1 standard.  The display is listed as ATI RADEON XPREES 200 in the device manager.
It is using the driver provided by the operating system - ATI Technologies dated 10/2/2010 and version 10-2_legacy_vista32-64_dd_ccc and ATI_ATI-Radeon-Xpress-X1100_A03_R172873.  From a cold boot the blue Windows logo appears and then the mouse cursor
in the middle of the screen, but the start screen with the tiles is not displayed.  Maybe this sounds weird, but I think the start screen and tiles is there, but just not being shown on the screen.  There appears to be nothing there, but I can move
the cursor around on the black screen and click in frustration.  Then I press the power button and the laptop enters sleep mode.  Once in sleep mode I press power again to resume the computer and then the lock screen shows up and I can see the start
screen and tiles and everything works like it should.  This only happens from a cold boot.  If the computer was on and restarted it does not happen.  Has this happened to anyone else?  Any suggestions?  I will check for a newer display
driver from ATI.  The only driver on the Windows Update Catalog is for Windows Vista.

A:Ati radeon xpress 200 series driver installing windows 8.1 pro black screen

mouse cursor in the middle of the screen, but the start screen with the tiles is not displayed.

Usually it is nVidia users who complain of this.  An explanation would be that you are seeing your secondary monitor display in an Extended display configuration.  When you press Win- etc. it would show on your primary monitor (which you can't
see).  So, press Win-P anyway and imagine that you can see its display.  Then you would press CursorUp, Enter and switch display configurations so you could see something.

only happens from a cold boot.

Then there is a feature in a boot that makes this change.  Try using Win-P again when you can see it to see what the configuration is then.

Recently my Lenovo Y50-70 laptop suddenly started acting weird right after Windows 10 update. It got worse a couple weeks later after a May 2017 Windows 10 Anniversary update. So I updated the graphics drivers and ever since then my laptop will take hours to boot up. I changed the power settings so it does not go into sleep mode as that was the first issue I noticed when issues started - it would go to sleep or hibernate and would not come back without hard start. I turned off the screen saver, changed power settings so that screen & laptop wont hibernate or sleep. Made sure Windows Updates all up to date. Tried to Skype to take a peek before removing it but it wont open and I got a message saying "Cant be opened using the Built-In Administrator account. Sign in with a different account and try again." I have no idea what that means. There is only the one account on here and only I use this laptop. If that was as bad as it got I could deal with this but... Last night I was trying to backup everything and eventually fell asleep waiting for reboot to kick in. The OS was booted up when I woke up this morning and I decided to restart it after my backup to external drive failed........ bad decision on my part there as I have spent last 12 hrs trying to get this stupid thing into Safe Mode, or BIOS or even just regular start up. I got the "ATI display driver has stopped responding and has recovered from an error" several times over the last couple of days where my screen would freeze for a couple of second and then start working again and would display that message. I thought little of it as it did always seem to work afterwards.

Last night however it got extremely frequent happening at least once a minute and i decided to try and restart my computer to see if that would help at all. Now when I try to turn the computer on the screen stays black and will not do anything. I can hear that the computer trying to work as the fans are going and the power light is on, it's just the screen that isn't working.

How to troubleshoot

"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" error in Windows 7 or Windows Vista

I found these guides on how to fix the error message but at the moment both are no good as I can't even use my computer to fix the problem as the screen won't work.

I am pretty sure the reason my computer is doing this is because of outdated drivers as I recently did a fresh install of windows and only installed the drivers that came on the CD I was given with my computer. I should have downloaded the latest drivers online.

I am running Windows 7 on a Dell Studio 1558 laptop. I am unsure of the graphics card at the moment as I can't access the computer but I know that it is an ATI of some sort.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X201 laptop with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit factory installed. Due to some major problems with the USB-drivers, I want to do a fresh Windows 7 installation, but in a different way. I've created a new partition on the harddrive, and I would like to install Windows on that new partition, so there are 2 Windows installations on 2 different partitions, and then transfer the data between the partitions, and install the programs over time, and then finally delete the old installation, when I've finished setting up the new installation with programs and data. My questions is now:1. Is it possible to do that, and how do I do it?2. I want to do a original Windows OEM installation, with the Lenovo drivers and all that, but what do I need to do that?3. Will the product key on the computer work on both installations at the same time, when they are on 2 different partitions, but on the same computer? Best regards:Aksel Christoffersen

I'm having a problem where it says "Display driver stopped working and has recovered".  I see where several others have posted about this, but I'm unable to locate a fix here or reply to other similar posts for some strange reason.  I have a 4 month old Inspiron 15 5559 laptop runing Windows 10 Home x64. The problem occurs intermittently  when I go to the tomshardware.com forums.  It occurs most often with Firefox (version 45.0.1) but it also happens with IE11.  It happens usually after I post a note there, then click the back arrow a couple of times to go back to the listing of all the posts.
According to Device Manager, I have version  When I tell it to scan for an updated version, it says I already have the most current driver for the Intel HD graphics 520.
Please advise how I can get rid of this problem.  Thank you.

A:Inspiron 5559 "Display driver stopped working & has recovered" leaving black screen. Win 10.

I have the same issue with Inspiron 7559. But, not just in web browsing. It happens in Word, Peachtree, etc. So, my thoughts are the problem is a Windows 10 display driver issue, which should be fixed by a driver update provided by the manufacturer. I did a system scan on Dell Support Assistant (thy actually are run every week) and my system has the latest drivers, according the DSA. Get on the stick, Dell. Interesting thing is, it doesn't show up in the System Events in the Dell Support Assistant software - not even as an "info" point. It's like Dell is ignoring the Windows error.

The latest Intel HD 5500 graphics driver ( has an issue for me when upon closing the screen, either to put the computer to sleep or just to turn the screen off (when "do nothing" is set in windows' sleep options), the device connected sound will play and the resolution will change.Upon opening the screen the device disconnected sound will play and the screen will breifly show in its smaller resolution in the top left of the screen before returning to full size. Any windows which were not maximised will then be placed and shrunk to the top left portion of the screen. If the driver is uninstalled using device manager the issue goes away. The default Intel HD graphics drivers that Windows provides don't have this issue but I am unaware of the version number. Unfortunatly a couple days ago the current display drivers as provided from here: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-... are now pushed through windows update. This now serves me the faulty driver giving me the issues rather than the working one.  If anyone is interested I have downloaded a tool which detects USB (dis)connects that might have been giving me the sound. This is not the issue as not devices are reported connecting or disconnecting via USB. The disconnect/connect sounds are only present with the current driver.

I reset my laptop back to factory default (from windows 10 64 bit to windows 7 64 bit), and now my included trackpad and eraser head mouse are not working as well as the mouse buttons (right, left, and middle click), and when I click fn + f8 I get a popup saying that "ultranav driver is not installed" with no option other than "ok" I installed the ultranav drivers from https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/migr-67226 I get a successful installation notification, but I still do not have a functioning mouse. I reboot the laptop, do a full shutdown, and still no dice. Any ideas on how to fix it?

I have just bought this laptop a week before.  I've had this message saying "display driver stopped responding and has recovered" and the screen started working abnormal. Hi all, I have a general question.
I'm was updating the ram and installing a new hard drive on an ibm thinkpad type 2681. I think it was manufactured around 2004 or so. I installed a copy of windows xp onto the new hardrive and everything seemed fine.

Upon attempting to connect to the internet I am shown the usual 'internet explorer cannot display the webpage' that occurs when one is not connected to the internet. This is with the ethernet cable plugged directly from the router to the computer. The other computers in the house run fine online, the internet's most def. not an issue. I went to the system folder to check the drivers in the hardware in system profiler and I noticed that this laptop doesn't have an internal wireless card. What the owner did was buy a linksys external wireless card that just plugs in. I found and installed the drivers/program for that and the card says it's being read but upon trying to connect it gives a 'cannot associate with AP message'. In the device manager it lists in 'other devices' a pci modem, two ethernet controllers and an 'unknown device'. What I'm assuming is that the computer needs the appropriate drivers to connect to it's hardware, and since the owner kept none of the included software, I really have nothing to go on. I checked ibm thinkpad's site and nothing looked compatible with a comp this old.

I'm wracking my brains trying to figure out what ... Read more

I started having issues yesterday, the day after I installed teamviewer a program that is on my iPad also to remotely control the laptop. At first the screen started freezing when I was in the middle of a Java game. So I restarted the laptop only to have it freeze at the main screen (after login).

The screen would freeze the display would change to a very low resolution (I think). So I kept restarting it only to repeat. Until eventually once past the windows logo the screen would turn black and blank. Sometimes the display would turn on black and blank and other times it would do that after the logo.

A few times I managed to get it to go into safe mode and I restored to a few days ago but it made no difference, I also tried many other things like changing some settings but nothing worked.

So after like 2 or 3 hours I Rolled back and disabled "nvidia quadro nvs 135m" (since I read it might be causing the issue and I should uninstall it which I couldn't), once I disabled it I restarted the computer and made it to the main screen without issues, and I could even load my game. I enabled it again And restarted the computer only to have the same issues so I disabled it again after finally getting into safe mode.

I don't know if it works fine now, I left it on at most for 5-10 minutes without any issues and I never actually logged into the game to see if it works.

I figured out that in my display settings instead of showing my main monitor it only sho... Read more

Hi. I can't get the webcam to work. I got this laptop around mid June of this year. Tried to use the webcam for the first time today, Nothing. My device manager doesn't even list a camera. I tried to intall the driver (twice) to see if that would help, but as far as I can see, it's had exactly 0 effect. I downloaded the lenovo settings app, and it's not there, either. At least, I see no setting options for it. But this model of laptop supposedly has a webcam built in, and my model looks pretty much exactly like the others I see on google images, except for a circly light thing in the strip where the camera is supposed to be. I have no idea what the hardware/wiring should even look like so I can't help there. I've been at this for hours. At this point I would just buy a webcam off Amazon or something if I could be sure that the laptop would actually register it.
