Q: Virus Protection won't start/Firefox crashes [Moved]

Last night a balloon popped up stating that the pc was infected (the balloon came from the security sheild in the quick lanch tray). I knew this was fake so I didn't click on. Still a bunch of problems occured. The desk top changed into a warning that I needed to get virus protection. That went away after restarting. However now I cannot get symantec to start. Firefox crashes as soon as I click on it. I am forced to use explorer. Google has been hijacked. The links redirect to nuisance sites. The only thing protecting the pc right now is spybot. I am running windows xp.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently purchased Malwarebytes Premium on June 14th and after 2 days I opened it to look it over and I saw where my next scheduled scan was to be at 1 AM June 14th. I finally found a ph. # and called for some support, I was told they do not do tech support and would refer me to someone. I had them refund my money back to my credit card. Come to find out the company is Cleverbridge and not Malwarebytes. Is there anywhere I can get some protection other than AVG? I have AVG but would like one more.
I also have Win. 8.1 on my laptop but I would like to use the desktop for as long as I'm able. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

OK. I'll try and explain this as good as i can. This started a couple months ago where i was trying to sync a scanner to laptop on win8 Toshiba, when the CPU started going crazy changed all contrast colors and ease of access settings to where the screen was not legable. ran my virus scan which didn't find anything but it kept happening. so did a full system restore. to no avail started noticing cpu always different  i got on it so i've been trying to run malware and spyware that gets shutdown or computer reboots in middle of scan. to where the laptop has crashed quite a few times when i get to looking deeper into the problem. now ive noticed network problems at home  with so many ports open and established. its gotten so bad as my older asus running win 7 has same problems now and my brand new galaxy s5 cell phone also was doing weird things and finally it too finally crashed. so thinking its something over the network which at first i thought it was the wife spying on me but every now and again i can turn off router and seems like things still happen and couple of my scan logs got changed were i know i saw some alerts on log about not updating but next day it was changed. when laptop was off all night after scan.

Hello,

I have been having some issues for the last couple of days with my computer.  I first experienced trouble with Firefox while watch a simple Twitch Stream.  For no reason (as the computer was completely idle save the stream) I received a message saying Shockwave Player (or some script on the page) stopped responding.  The popup gave me the option to wait for the script to respond, or to kill it.  I attempted to kill it, by opening up Task Manager.  This took maybe 3 minutes to open up, while in the process hung my entire system the whole time, and then led to Firefox itself to completely lock up.  As well, when attempting to open up Task Manager in the first place, if at first the window did not show up I would attempt to open it again.  The first time by using the Ctrl, Shift, Escape combination, and when that was unsuccessful (as it normally pops up instantly), I would thusly right click the taskbar to open it that way.  By doing this method it would take minutes for the popup from the taskbar itself to showup.  After finally getting Task Manager open, I would see two different Task Manager processes.  One at roughly 4k kilobytes of memory, while the other ~100.  As someone with a tiny bit of OCD I would close the smaller kilobyte one by right clicking it to kill the process from the popup menu.  Right clicking the process would give me no window, nor would hitting kill process from the tab on the Task... My problem has intensified.

Every time I try to start Firefox, it crashes immediately and the Mozilla Crash Reporter says "Firefox had a problem and crashed."

Here is my earlier post, which got no responses:

I have Windows Vista.

For the last few days, my Firefox has been going SLOW! It allows me a few seconds to take actions (click links, type, etc) but then freezes with the "not responding" message for a few minutes. This pattern repeats over and over.

This problem does not seem to affect Internet Explorer. Firefox behaves the same way even when I switch networks. Attempting to "diagnose & repair" the network connection results in the message that "Windows did not find any problems with your internet connection."

This has happened at least once before. I don't remember how long it lasted last time. It must have only been a few days, because I remember thinking about seeking help, but not getting around to it by the time it fixed itself.

I scanned my computer using Ad-Aware SE, Spybot S&D, Super Anti-Spyware, and NOD 32. I came up clean.

I cannot recall any system changes or new installations before the problem happened.

Thank you for your help.

Firstly, I need to point out that this happens on my mother's computer. I don't live here, but I do have a login on her Windows XP machine and when I do want to browse the web I would like to use Firefox.

No matter what I do, I just can't get Firefox to start. I've tried different versions. I've tried Firefox Safe Mode. Any attempt to start Firefox using any method just brings up the Mozilla Crash Reporter.

I'm currently using Internet Explorer to post this. There do not seem to be any problems with IE, except for the fact that it just sucks, but that's by design.

I've done some research on how to fix this issue, but so far everyone else who has had the problem has either solved it using a method that does not work for me, or never received a helpful response.

Please let me know if there is a way I can work around this. In the meantime, I'll keep trying different things. Right now I am going to completely uninstall Firefox (again), remove any traces of the program's folders/files I can find, and restart the computer.

Hopefully I can get some help before I go home today, otherwise I won't be able to work on it until I come back sometime.

Thanks.

Usually at least three and no more than 10, and there's no real pattern to it (that I can tell). Some of the more common start-up crashes include:- Userinit Logon Application- Adobe Reader and Acrobat Manager- CD/DVD Drive Acoustic Silencer- Host Process for Windows Services- RealUpgrade Launcher- Google Crash Handler- Google Installer- RAID Monitor- ivihh.exeAs of today I'm taking more detailed notes on it?I'll be happy to share with anybody who wants to see them?but I'll probably never get a complete list because inevitably some of the crash reports will appear and then quickly disappear before I can make a note of what it was that crashed.I've made some attempts to resolve this before, with no success, but for the most part I didn't worry about it because the crashes alone didn't appear to be causing any problems. But over the last few months my computer's overall performance has been getting noticeably worse, and I've been seeing signs of a much more serious problem:- I've been getting more crash reports than I used to (though not by a huge margin).- Often when I start my computer, after waiting a few minutes to get all the crashes out of the way and let the system more or less stabilize, I won't be able to open Firefox. I double-click the icon, the pointer turns into an hourglass for a second or two, and then nothing ... Read more

I am working on this computer running Windows 7. After running several anti-virus/malware programs (Avast, Microsoft Essentials, Malwarebytes, EmsisoftEmergencyKit) several viruses were removed. I didn't note the names at the time. Prior to the removal, certain features wouldn't work, e.g. when clicking on a Control Panel applet, nothing would run. Those things are working now. I am able to get online, but certain items fail, such as updating Microsoft Essentials. I checked and Firewall is not running, nor can I get it running.

I have tried running MS Fix It, importing registry entries for Base Filtering Engine (BFE) and Windows Firewall Authorization Driver (MPSDRV) - doesn't seem to be running...

A:Virus (possibly Paladin virus) avoids all scanners and crashes desktop on start

Computer: Windows Vista 64 bit / / Dell XPS 420

Problems started occurring out of the blue when I tried to resume my computer from sleep mode and it froze. I had not downloaded anything recently, not anything I was aware of anyway. My computer has had several corrupted files that contained error messages on start up. I have been able to fix these but my computer freezes soon after I start up. I am only able to access safe mode.

I have been able to remove 42 entries of malware via Spybot. And 1 virus via Avast. The virus was called Paladin. However, in my virus chest there are multiple entries each named unknown, all with the same date of quarantine. Despite my quarantining of this virus, a [Paladin] program still pops up very briefly in normal mode in my start-up tray.

I have been able to install and update a number of anti-virus and malware removal programs despite being infected. Although initially, the virus had somehow removed Adwcleaner, I was able to reinstall it and scan my registry. The problem, however, was not fixed. For some reason, despite downloading them, I have been unable to fully install Avira Anti-virus and am unable to get AVG to run.

Everything else comes up with zero results despite continuing problems. MRT says I have 1 infected file on a Full Scan, however, it always locks up when attempting to scan: D:\dell\Image\Factory.wim\Windows\Help\Windows\en-US\mail.wmv
Custom and quick scans yield no results.

I don't know whether I have a malware problem, or a hard-drive-in-death-throes problem, or what. But I figured it was best to start here, so if it's not a virus I can go over to the XP forum with that ruled out.

Over the past few months my desktop has been steadily driving me nuts. First it began giving me BSODs at random intervals, anything from a day to a month apart. (Currently, about once every three weeks.) The most common error is 0x0000008E, but I've also had 0x00000019, 0x00000024, 0x1000000A, 0x0000004E (PFN_LIST_CORRUPT), 0x0000007F, 0x0000000A (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL), and 0x00000050 (PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA). Usually it crashes at startup, but it has taken as much as twenty minutes. I've tried defragging the hard drive, using a registry cleaner, and replacing Sygate firewall (see below) but nothing appears to have worked.

Then Sygate starting occasionally crashing while I was online. I replaced it with PC Tools free firewall, which hasn't had any problems. (Yet...)

Somewhere in the last several months (hard to say whether it was before or after Sygate and the BSODs, it seems to have been creeping up for a while) Firefox developed an increasing tendency to hang. It reached the point where it was basically non-functional for a good quarter hour after connecting. During that time doing anything - maximising or minimising windows, accessing the start menu - took forever. Then Firefox started crashing - constantly. I worked my way through the official trou... Last night I discovered a major problem with my system. When I start firefox, it says opens the crash reporter and tells me to restart firefox. Internet explorer opens for two seconds and closes itself, spybotSD opens in the task manager, but not in the taskbar and doesn't show up on the screen.

I tried the system restore in regular and safe mode, but the final "next" button to actually restore clicks but doesn't do anything. It doesn't matter which restore point I choose.

Any tips at all?
I've searched my processes and didn't see anything out of the ordinary, but I may just be missing something.
I also cleared my startup processes and startups in regedit. Still no luck

Thanks for the help.

Any tips at all?Well, I would recommend you download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. It has worked countless times on computers that I have cleaned up. The quick scan usually does a pretty good job, but just do the full scan to be sure you find anything that may be causing this problem. Try this and then get back to the forum.http://www.malwarebytes.org/The free version works great, just make sure you update it manually before you use it.

Hey guys, first time here.

So recently, firefox has been crashing while i've been using it. It crashes pretty quickly. It crashes almost immediately when i visit certain sites, while on other sites like google, it crashes randomly. All the crashes occur less than 5 minutes in.
I attempted to ran anti-virus scanners like AVG free, malwarebytes, superantispyware, but none of them opened, or allowed me to run a scan. I used rkill to prevent firefox from crashing for awhile, but i know it's only temporary. I recently has the antivirus system pro virus, but their ads aren't popping up anymore

Any solutions?

P.S. I'm an idiot when it comes to ccomputers, so bare with me ;)

I'm hoping I can get some answers with this. Starting about 3 days ago, my computer when using Firefox, goes berzerk. I am using Windows XP. What happens is I will be on a website (three of the times it happened I was on Facebook, and once I clicked on a Google search image), and all of a sudden, it says something about Firefox detecting a threat and that it needs to do a scan for viruses. Within the FF screen, it starts a rapid scan without me saying ok, go ahead. Due to me panicking, I don't really know for sure what all the specific wording is that goes along with it. All I know is that I hurry up and shut down FF. The first time it happened was on April Fool's Day, so I thought it was just a joke...

I have Norton security, and after this happened once, I ran a scan on that which gave me one high security risk that couldn't be removed. Sorry, I tried figuring out what it was called, but now I can't seem to find it in my saved log. I also ran malwarebytes and it said I had a spyware.spygater infection along with several other low risk adware files.

After I ran those scans, things seemed to be working fine for about a day. I thought it was all good, but then it happened again tonight. I ran malwarebytes again and it came up with 2 threats today instead of the 47 from the other day.

So, now I've come to this forum for other suggestions. I don't know what is causing the problem or if it is completely resolved. Any help or suggest... Read more

Very early on yesterday my computer became infected with a very obnoxious virus/trojan. I managed to kill off most of what was in there, because it no longer tries to run fake anti-virus, and my browser works again. I was unable to run most of my programs so I did a system restore to a Monday's settings. However, I still seem to have something in my computer. Firefox (3.5.9, on Windows XP Home edition) has been crashing quite frequently. Also, when I do a Google search I sometimes get redirected when I click a result. Nothing too bad; just a crappy portal or shopping page. But it needs to stop, so I'm going to need help finding and killing this thing once and for all. I've already run my antivirus twice (avast! v4.8 Home edition), finding 4 infected files the first time and then finding none the second. I've stopped a few plugins in Firefox that are often attributed to suspicious behavior, and I've run SpyBot S&D, finding and fixing 8 infected files. I've checked my Task manager for suspicious looking processes but haven't found any. I'm at a loss as to what to do next, so any help is much appreciated.
Also, I'm fairly tech savvy but some things are a bit more out of my league than others, so I might need clarification. Thanks in advance.

A:Firefox crashes and redirects, some sort of virus, trojan or rootkit

If someone could please take a look at this, I'm completely stumped. I ran some scans and found 4 objects using avast! and 8 objects using Spybot S&D, then ran Malwarebytes twice and found another 15 items between the two scans. However I am still getting redirects and the occasional pop-up, and I really need this off of my machine.

Firefox has been freezing up on me, and when I close it down, I get a bluescreen error. It also happens a lot of the time when I close Firefox down normally. This was happening before I updated to the latest version of FF. I am running Windows XP, and have recently started using ZoneAlarm and Avast on my system.

A:Firefox closes = bluescreen error? (Moved for the mozilla/Firefox Forum)

Hi,

Can you give us the error in full that you are getting. Also, I would check and make sure that ZoneAlarm and Avast are allowing FF to connect to the internet.

I don't know if my problem is Firefox or WordPress but I thought I'd try here first.
I use WordPress to publish articles and usually copy and paste from the finished article in the Articles forum to WordPress but since I reinstalled Win 7 this no longer works as paste is no longer an option when I right click in WordPress, or at least in the particular part that I need it to. I can, however, do it in Internet Explorer, but images aren't copied over, which they used to be. I've tried all the usual things like clearing the cache, but nothing has worked. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

A:Is this Win 7 or Firefox at fault? Moved from Mozilla/Firefox browsers

Hi,
I am using Win-7 too but I haven't used IE. So my suggestion is to, try another browser for the same purpose and then see the effects (I feel firefox is well suited for the purpose). If you are getting same problems then, you are missing with some features of Win-7 otherwise, it is the website issue.

Because they say I am probably still infected.I installed an MS office program and it contained a virus, I ran my programs and it says my comp is clean. At start-up my icons/explorer bar on the bottom will not show up only the background. I have to go into the task manager after DEP pops up, end explorer.exe and then open it up as a new task before my icons/explorer bar show up. When I close DEP and error box appears to report the problem which is this. If I don't send the problem out and just hit cancel then my entire screen goes blank until I close explorer.exe and run a new one.My dvd drive are working again but I really don't want to burn some recovery disks if my computer is messed up. Since I'm not sure if the recovery disks will contain the problem and make me start all over again. I do not have any recovery disks from HP since the computer did not come with them. Dear BleepingComputer folk,

My laptop is running Firefox 40.0.3 under Windows 8.1 (64-bit).

The Problem

Two nights ago my browser (then Firefox 40.0.2) started opening some webpages extremely slowly, simply refusing to open others and producing a "This document has been moved here" message for others (see below screenshot - the link would appear to go to whatever I searched for, but I never clicked it).

These various problems were affecting familiar websites that I have bookmarked and regularly open, such as Facebook.  This seemed to be in some way related to the cache, as it was not affecting new URLs that I had not visited previously during that browsing session.

In addition, when using Google Toolbar (but not https://www.google.co.uk/ , which appeared fully functional) to search for anything I would receive the same: "This document has been moved here", but with an additional "302 Moved" message.

SCREENSHOT #2 - result of attempt to search for http://www.facebook.com/ via Google Toolbar:

Attempting to access attachments in gmail also produced a similar message (I don't have a screenshot of this, but I believe the message there again differed slightly, saying that the document was "temporarily" moved).  This is what I encoun... Read more

I am a bit unsure of difference between malware protection and anti-virus protection. I have Norton nis which is great for stopping Trojans. I have a company that works on my computer if I have a problem. They wanted me to put in a anti malware program. I have been having problems with computer lately, so I let them do this, could this cause a problem, because I know that you are not supposed to run 2 anti-virus programs?
          Anyone?

A:Difference between malware protection and virus protection

Anti-virus and anti-malware programs each perform different tasks as it relates to computer security and threat detection. Essentially, they look for and remove different types of malicious threats. In simplistic terms, an anti-virus program will focus on viruses, worms, Trojans, rootkis and bots while anti-malware programs generally tend to focus more on spyware, adware and PUPS (potentially unwanted programs)?. However, there can be some overlap in functionality and detection features depending on the program's scanning engine, how the vendor defines a specific threat and what Naming Standards are used. Some vendors also add a modifier or additional information after the name that further describes what type of malware it is.The Difference Between Antivirus and Anti-MalwareAntivirus and Antispyware Software: What's The Difference? What Is the Difference Between Antivirus & Antispyware?Use Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware SoftwareTo fully understand the difference between Anti-virus and Anti-spyware (anti-malware) programs, you need to understand the difference between the various types of malware. Hey, my computer's been acting weirdly. First it takes about 2 hours to shut down normally. Now my virus scanner (The shield Deluxe 2009) says it's been disabled, but I haven't done anything to it. Malwarebytes scans freeze when they start when i try to do them in normal mode. I am able to do a scan in safe mode. But it hasn't finished yet. In normal mode firefox ie and itunes all freeze before they can start up, in task manager firefox's memory usage goes up and stops before it's high enough to open the program. In safe mode everything works fine though. I did a hijack this scan and saved a log in safe mode. I expect this to be a virus because my scanners don't work in normal mode. Any help?

Hello all,

I have Firefox as my browser and Yahoo as my search engine. No matter how many updates, add-ons etc I use from Mozilla re: Adobe Flash player, Firefox continues to block Flash.

My question is, what can I use as a substitute to Flash and how do I install it to work on my browser
Thanks,
Windjammer14

Hi, Problem Description: Explorer crashes and restarts if I attempt to runcmd.exe, regedit, other batch files. It does not matter wether I launch these from the Run dialog, use a full path or execute directly .My System: Windows XP Pro, SP3. This problem has already been discussed here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/206736/run-cmdexe-causes-explorer-to-crash/By reading the above topic, I gather my issue seems to be an infection. I understand some people have been able to fix this with ComboFix. I would really appreciate your help with this.System Path Variable: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2009\bin;C:\Program Files\Microsoft DirectX SDK (March 2008)\Utilities\Bin\x86;C:\Program Files\Microsoft DirectX SDK (November 2007)\Utilities\Bin\x86;C:\Program Files\Microsoft DirectX SDK (August 2007)\Utilities\Bin\x86;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\binn\;C:\Program Files\Smart Projects\IsoBuster;C:\WINDOWS\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\Program Files\Sandcastle\ProductionTools\;C:\Program Files\VisualSVN\bin;J:\Programs\MATLAB\R2008b\bin;J:\Programs\MATLAB\R2008b\bin\win32;C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem\Things I Have Tried: ? My XPS 15 will randomly crash to a black screen with the backlight and keyboard still lit. Caps lock key doesn't work when this happens either which indicates to me that the entire system has crashed and not just the screen. This usually happens when the laptop is moved. Sometimes instead of a completely black screen, I get small blue bars covering the screen. After a crash like this, the laptop often won't boot back up after I force a shutdown. Usually, the battery light blinks 3 times white and then 3 times orange for about 30 seconds. I have to let the laptop sit for a few minutes before I can boot it back up.
I've installed all of the latest drivers and bios from Dell's website, but nothing has helped.

I have been getting random crashes on my computer. I have had times where I am playing a game and it completely freezes and I cannot ALT TAB out or leave the game, or watching a video and the video freezes; and it is stuck in full screen or sometimes my mouse cursor will just get stuck on the desktop and I cannot move it forcing me to do a rough restart. Now when I restart my computer right after one of these crashes it will get stuck on the motherboard image screen, wont go past that. I hit delete one time to go into BIOS and it went to another screen that showed me it was going to be entering setup but it just got stuck and never did. So what I have to do every time is wait and then turn it on and it works fine, but this has been happening frequently. I have no idea how these crashes started happening, please help.

Specs:
CPU - Intel Core i5 760
RAM - Ripjaws 4gb
Motherboard - MSI P55A-G55

I have started to experience problems with my pc. I run a wireless internet using netgear, which started acting up instead of a normal log in it would open a blank page with title "rt-yves...." I did a system restore which seemed to fix the problem, until netgear developed another problem where it would boot me from my net sessions. I tried to uninstall but was unable to due to .dll file and strange chimes being played. I now find my computer frequently makes these noises and freezes. when I try to open task manager I have a window pops up telling me that it is unable to open that application. I run Trend micro pc-cillin. I have installed and run regcure, and changed my browser to firefox since. my pc still will not behave and I now ask for some sage guidance!!! I have run hijack this and will post the log here for you to check it out.

Not only that, but also in FireFox. I right click to save the image, but when the Save window opens up the whole browser just closes. I have ran everything I can think of. Ad-Aware, SpySweeper, Virus Scan, ComboFix, CWShreder, all to no avail.

Please someone help.

Hello, I've recently built a new computer and whenever I play a game, usually for a extended period of time, but sometimes a short period of time(as in, its pretty random) the game crashes and I get the (0xc0000409) error.

The odd thing is, everything else crashes too, and I see random colors appear(everything becomes glitchy). chrome crashes, shockwave crashes, pretty much everything.

I thought it was my memory so I had it RMAed, can it be the graphics card or is it simply a driver issue?

A:(0xc0000409) Error - everything crashes [moved from Vista/7]

1st thing to try is drivers for the graphics card..

I have a new laptop: Inspiron 15 5566. When I moved it fast, or sometimes even when I pick it up on one end and it "bends" just a bit, the screen briefly flashes and then Windows crashes and I have to reboot. Sometimes it freezes, sometimes it gives an error and says it needs to reboot.
I've replaced the original hard drive with a new SSD drive, so I don't think it's that.

As the topic title states.... regedit and cmd.exe crash windows explorer. I got cmd.exe to work by copying it to a nonsense file name. if it had 'cmd' in the file name it would crash windows explorer. dds.scr will not do anything. I go to run it and it just flashes and goes away. (looks like because of cmd.exe) Mcaffee is turned off. mcaffee and malwarebytes cleaned up a couple of things but did nothing for the actual problem. hijackthis does run and I get the following log file: UPDATE:-logs snipped- (they weren't needed for the solution) I ran Malwarebytes again, it found C:\WINDOWS\fia.jfn (Trojan.Daonol) again. I had it delete it. Reboot. It was back.Used HJT to remove that file at reboot. upon reboot cmd.exe & regedit are working normally again and there no longer appears to be forwarding going on. msconfig was locking me out still but that turned out to be mcaffee's fault. removing mcaffee fixed that. All seems back to normal now. Thanks in advance for any insight.
