Backlit keyboard Satellite S50t-b - keyboard replacement

Q: Backlit keyboard Satellite S50t-b - keyboard replacement

My laptop got wet (water).. At first only one key was not working.
It got worse when i tryed to fix it I put it under a fan and it made most keys not respond
some keys were working but i decided to change the keyboard.
( i didnt power it off and just used a usb keyboard)

I have replaced the keyboard from ebay
My question is about the back lit strip.
My old keyboard; had a ribben cable coming out to LED light node and additional black plastic wraping on the backside of keyboard.
I broke the ribben from the old keyboard ( no not the regular ribben cable )
I reconnected the new keyboard which; did not have led lights or black plastic
I go into keyboard on control pannel and it says my keyboard is connected (1 to usb & 2 to the computers port Standard P/S2 keyboard& is working fine
.( it isnt working at all)
Does my laptop need to have the led circuit connected?
is it a loop to the keyboard ribben ( which i have connected)

I have talked to someone who believes this is for led(s) and all that is uncommon on non-backlit keyboards and should not be necessary for the keyboard to work and we believe its only lighting.
keyboard to turn on but I am missing a ribben connection to this extra strip of LED lights and what else ?

Should i order a plastic led light strip and stick it to my new keyboard to match the original
Do i need to complete the circuit where the led ribben was connected as it is a loop or safety feature or to complete the circuit
is there any chance i blew a fuse* on the port and that is why it wont respond .
because when i blew the fan on it it went from one single key not responding to like half one side no working and one time keys were stuck down.

I will try bridging the led ribben with a papper clip or the original ribben to see if it is a loop power issue and that is mainly why i came here to find out if i needed the black plastic with additional led lights in order for my keyboard to function.

Let me know if u think i blew the node* and is not a simple keyboard problem now or if the Led ribben is essential in some way

I will try to connect my old keyboard which was working like atleast one key to see if it is a compatibility issue which would be rare id suspect.
im thinking that extra ribben is essential for the keybord to function with the rest of the computer and it needs to be there

It only broke because watching tutorials online: no sign of a ribben connected to LED lights was present so it was a surprize when i was removing it
and my new keyboard didnt have that feature and was just generic with no back lighting so its not like i broke it i just dont have it connected

LED power feed looped circuit? internal water damage? Software? nothing else is at fault with my computer just my keyboard
and control panel is confirming that it is connected to the port

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi! I've got Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 Silver (https://www.alza.cz/EN/lenovo-ideapad-yoga-13-silver-d375124.htm), and while I am quite content with the device, my keyboard stopped working. I was wondering whether any of you might know and suggest an online reseller (official or otherwise), where I could get hold of a replacement keyboard. Now, I suppose backlit keyboard versions of newer Yoga laptops will not work I guess, will they? From what I have read Yoga 13 Silver does not have the slot required for backlit, but aside that, will the keyboard function and will it fit (dimension-wise)? If so, what is the voltage and current required? Would soldering a small battery to the backlit cable be a good idea (I accept the fact that I wouldn't be able to regulate it)? Thank you in advance!ck

I bought a backlit keyboard for my p50 from an online reseller (part# SN20K85143/ FRU 00PA317) because I thought having a backlit keyboard would be nice, and the price was good second hand (looks like new, seller said he prefered non lit version hence sale). I didn't have the time to replace the keyboard and it got left for a few months in the box, you know how it is sometimes ! So I installed the keyboard today (finally) and everything went fine. Boot into the OS and everything looks grand. Backlights work, function options work. I then do a quick keyboard test in note pad and I discover that some keys do not work. Specifically [T,Y,P,[,], and delete keys, also Up, down arrows) . I reseated the connector ribbons to check if the problem was there, same issue on reboot. I put back my original keyboard and that worked fine (using it now), so I hadn't damaged the connectors on the logic board. I wonder if thier is some mapping incompatability ? I couldn't find a similar issue on the forum. Helpful suggestions please ? ty

Hi,
I have purchased a Dell Inspiron 5567 and wish to upgrade the keyboard to a Backlit one. The keyboard I have bought is compatible with the laptop, and the laptop also has the connector on the Mainboard for the backlight flex cable. The problem is that the present keyboard does not seem to come off. It is under the Palmrest and secured from the back with a sheet metal which is moulded into the body of the laptop. I have contacted some people and they said that in order for the keyboard to come out I would have to break these seals/moulds. Is this recommended or should I just stick to the normal non-backlit keyboard the laptop came with? I am also concerned about voiding the warranty if I do this modification. Thanks in advance,Alex.

Keyboard list starts on page 5, although the backlit models start on page 6. I'm not so sure which one will be the Chilean one, I guess "ES" is for Spanish layouts, like this example: "TH-KBD,ES,CHY,BL"

I hope this helps!

I had bought some HPs for my staff and they have gray keyboard lettering I cant get on with so I thought I'd buy another Tosh. Chose the U500-18T and nasty surprise - gray lettering.

Then I find it is supposed to have backlit kb. The UK version has the same design of kb as rest of world but no backlight - result unreadable below anything but a well lit room. They haven't even bothered to put white lettering on. Cheap or what. So I called Tosh to buy a new kb and they were quite contrite.
So I have ordered a replacement kb from the US. I'm quite happy with US layout. Question is - will it work?
Is the fn-Z key still going to work. Is the kb even going to work? Can anyone help?

Hello..

I have installed all the drivers from the Toshiba Windows 10 upgrade page however as before the keyboard works just not backlit!
I opened the eco utility software and checked for the keyboard backlit settings under eco mode however it does not exist and no setting exists in the BIOS either. The keyboard does have the symbol to enable the backlit function on the Z key however pressing FN + Z does nothing.

Does anybody have any ideas on how to fix this? Does the keyboard even have this function or is it faulty?

Thanks, Craig

Hi, everyone. I would really appreciate any help on this to retain the maximum usage of my X240. The special alternate functions of F1, F2 and F3 keys are not completely functioning. I recently replaced my keyboard recently to a backlit one, only to find out that the alternate special functions of F1, F2 and F3 keys (mute, volume down and volume up) are not working completely. The funny thing is that the indicator lights up when the computer is freshly booted and EVEN DOES WORK for the first few minutes, BUT malfunctions after a few minutes. What's weird is that the NORMAL functions of F1, F2 and F3 keys are STILL WORKING despite the malfunction of the alternate special functions. To illustrate, here's a sample scenario: 0-~2 minutes: computer powers up; desktop is shown. keys function as they should, including special functions of F1, F2 and F3 (mute, volume down, volume up). Keylight indicator in F1 (mute indicator) working. 3 minutes and beyond: standard function of F1, F2 and F3 continues to function, but the special functions DOES NOT work anymore. Keylight indicator in F1 (mute indicator) is not working anymore. This happens everytime I boot. I tried to search forums for solutions, but I haven't found a solution yet. While this does not necessarily ruin the whole typing experience for me, it does cause a slight annoyance, especially with the fact that I cannot change the volume without manually going to the controls myself.  C... Hello everyone,
I am a new user and I am really desperate to get the backlit keyboard working on my Satellite P850, normally it wouldn't be a problem but I spend a lot of time in low light situations and it would be so very helpful to me, it was also a feature that swayed me to purchase a model laptop with the ability to have a backlit keyboard.

The function to activate the backlights of my keyboard doesn't work as it should.
Sometimes I manage to turn the lights on, but this is only possible in the first 5 seconds after Windows started up (and thus the first seconds I can see my desktop). After around 5 seconds, there is no turning back. If they're on at that moment, they stay on and it's impossible to turn them off again and vice versa. (The lights are activated by pressing FN+W, because it's an azerty computer.)

This problem started to occur when I updated to Windows 10 several years ago. Last week, I did a factory reset and again had some problems with the hotkeys. The backlit problem came back to my memory and therefore I post here, to hopefully get a solution.

I already tried several things:
- changing from 'special functionkey mode' to 'standard F1-F12 mode'
- updating drivers (System drivers, Function key utility...)
- changing in BIOS setup (here I could turn the lights on or off, but this didn't solve the problem when my laptop was turned on and logged in)

Laptop:
- Satellite P50-B-107
- PSPNUE-00300CBT
- Microsoft Windows 10 Home

A:Dell XPS L702X Laptop - want to purchase and have installed a replacement backlit keyboard (UK)

Dell generally charges repairs for other than mainboard or screen replacement at a flat rate that probably exceeds what a local shop will charge, but you will find the Spare Parts line and out of warranty support here:
They'll generally charge for a repair estimate and then apply the charge to the cost of the repair.    In the US, a keyboard replacement is a flat $149 -- the keyboard itself is likely under $50 and is a user-replaceable part.

Does somebody knows how to replace the keyboard to a satellite u840-u by myself? It looks to be just glued but don't know for sure. Also, my keyboard is not backlit, does it would be if replaced by one of the U series backlighted?

A:Satellite U840-10U - keyboard replacement

Hi

As far as I know some Satellite U840 models has been equipped with backlight keyboard.
But from my knowledge the backlight keyboard requires additional power connector (CN20).

I guess not all U840 motherboards would support such connector and therefore the backlight keyboard upgrade would not be possible.

Regarding the keyboard removal:
Yes I think the keyboard is pasted to top case by double adhesive. If you would disassemble the keyboard from the top case, the keyboard would deform and could not be used again.

In my opinion you should not try to remove anything. You would void the warranty and could damage other parts. I think such disassembling procedure should be done by authorized service engineer.

A:Keyboard replacement on Satellite Z930

I don?t know what the problem is with your keyboard but I presume that this new notebook model has valid warranty so I strongly recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. If keyboard is defective they should exchange it for free.

The whole situation with hardware parts is pretty complicated. I don?t know where do you live and I cannot search whole web to find right link for you and you can do this alone. Google a bit around and check if you can find some online store in your country where you can order it.

Replacement?
Theoretically you can do this but I don?t think you should do this alone. Notebook disassembling can be pretty complicated and without maintenance manuals very risky. Small mistake and you can damage something, especially small plastic parts and plastic holders.

Contact nearest Toshiba service, talk with them and ask for some help or good advice.

A:Satellite R850-169 - Replacement Keyboard key

Theoretically you can try to find defective keyboard, remove the same key cap and put it in place on the keyboard in your notebook.
To be honest I don?t think you can buy these key caps as single parts.

Check ebay. Maybe you can find defective or used keyboard for few euro.

Hi, It is much better and cheaper to buy this option now because backlit keyboard alone won't work, you need a motherboard which have ports for you to connect those lights. I wanted to do the same as well. Get rid of the normal keyboard and upgrade with a backlit one. I am ready to buy it off market or online as well as my warranty is void. Help will be appreciated, Ignorance will make me sad.

Hi HP, I had a HP Pavilion Notebook - 14-ab11 but the keyboard is non backlit.  would like to know is there any chance that this keyboard can be replaced with a backlited one?  regardsCG

A:replace non backlit keyboard to a backlit keyboard

Hi, Backlit keyboard alone won't light up, you need new motherboard (if available) which has connectors for keyboard lights. This is an expensive upgrade. Cheap option                   https://www.amazon.com/Sinywon-Flexible-Laptop-Keyboard-Portable/dp/B0191S9I4K Regards.

Hello, I was wondering if I could upgrade my non-backlit keyboard to a backlit keyboard for the HP ELitebook 745 G3. I was researching and found out that there ARE some HP laptop models that are backlit upgradable. I wanted to know if mine was one of it.

Hello. I recently acquired a (somewhat older) Dell Latitude E6420, and I wanted to replace the keyboard in it with a backlit one. Is this possible, or do backlit keyboards have a special connection that this one might not have?

Hello everyone, I can do this upgrade?  Can I Replace a Keyboard(Non-Backlit) with Backlit Keyboard in my HP EliteBook 850 G2?thanks

If your computer is a "desktop" computer, it should be a "no-brainer".The USB port on your computer would supply power to the keyboard to run the back-lights. But, since you have a notebook, you'll have to find a keyboard that physically matches the size of your current keyboard, and then hope that the notebook's motherboard will supply electrical power to the back-lights.This sounds like a tough task!  From:  http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04472797.pdf >>  Full-sized spill-resistant keyboard; optional back-lit keyboard keeps you productive in low-light settings lists that such an option is available, or maybe, was available when this model was first manufactured. From: http://h20628.www2.hp.com/km-ext/kmcsdirect/emr_na-c04551620-2.pdf Keyboard with backlight and pointing sick for use only on HP EliteBook 850 G2 Notebook PC and HP EliteBook 750 G2 Notebook PC computer models (includes backlight, keyboard, and pointing stick cables):       For use in Canada776475-DB1
