Solved: No Sound from MOV files!

Q: Solved: No Sound from MOV files!

Since re-installing W7, I have no sound from MOV files shot on my Canon from Quicktime, VLC, Mediaplayer and Adobe Premiere Elements. I can convert the files to mp4 and they play fine in iTunes but still not with other players. There is sound for the first second but it quickly drops off to a muffle. I have installed a few codec packs but nothing has helped. I've attached some file parameters. The files also play on my W8 machine, no problem.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Solved: No Sound from MOV files!

So technically I've solved the problem. Started thinking it couldnt be a Codec issue so I ran some diagnostics, etc to no avail. Then went to Control Panel - Sound - Playback and found alot of options for speaker systems. I just started changing the default speaker system until I got sound. What I dont understand is why iTunes and my system sounds still worked when the default sound system was incorrect. Any ideas?

I don't know if this question belongs here or not, but all of a sudden my mp3 files on Media Player don't have any sound. They look like they're playing, but there is no sound. Speakers are OK, as I have Audacity and all that is fine. I have a new HP pavilion series with Win 7 if that makes any difference.

I just upgraded from XP Pro 32-bit to Windows7 Pro 64-bit. All seems to working OK except sound. I have sound for everything except for some .wav files. Wav files withing applications don't always play. Sounds that came with System 7 play OK. I found this files in the program files directory and clicked to play them with WMP and the seem to be playing (the bar moves across) but there is no sound (which is what happens within the application I run). If I open the file with Quicktime, the sound plays OK.

I've tried a lot of things. Checked drivers, downloaded CODECS and so on. Still no sound with these files. If you look at properties for a sound that plays OK and compare it to one that does not play, they look the same. Any ideas??? And why would they play in Quicktime and not the system or WMP?

As of late, some of my video files have been playing without sound. The same thing happens with almost all videos online that stream through Windows Media Player. The only similarity I can find in the muted files on my computer are that they're all mono. The only thing that I can think of that could have messed up my audio settings is that I installed the Combined Community Codec Pack, but even after restoring all the default settings to my system there has been no change.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

I have no sound for flash files. Found that I should have msacm32.drv installed in my Windows system32 directory. Hardware config says I have that directory, but cannot find it with regedit. msacm32.drv is not installed on my machine as far as I can tell.

I've followed all of Adobe's suggestions for getting sound with no success. Flash video plays just fine.

I recently installed win.XP w/a lot of help from Elvandil. I backed up the drivers on a stick. I don't know what to do with them, they don't to tell me anything! I went in device manager and I have 3 yellow ? marks on these devices; "Video controller (VGA compatible) driver", "SM Bus controller driver" and "Multimedia Audio controller". I've been in device manager and tried updating the drivers mentioned, I deleted them and tried reinstall and they still come up with the yellow ? mark. I've been in microsoft and googled all of this, tried everything suggested and nothing. I keep getting "hardware cannot be installed because can't find necessary software"! I can't find it either!! Also on start up I get a window telling me "could not open such & such, if the problem continues reinstall Microsoft Security Client". Haven't been able to do that either.

I have been having some malware issues, and received phenomenal help from one of the members (Eddie5659) in that forum. I am now clear of malware, but still having a sound issue. I can hear sounds when I play a file that is hosted on the computer, like itunes, etc., and can hear all the test sounds in the directx sound tester. When I try to play a video on google, youtube, etc, there is no sound.. I do not have any system sounds either.

I think it is related to missing registry files. When I run regedit on my wifes computer, or my laptop, in the drivers32 file are multiple entries, including midimapper and wavemapper. when I run regedit on my computer, in the drivers32 file ther eis only one entry titled "default" and no value set for it. Don't worry, I have never done anything other then look with regedit, since I don't really know what a registry is.

I have searched online for 2 weeks without luck for a fix for this.

I'm using Powerpoint 2013 on a Windows 7 system. A productivity killer for me is in editing sound files. For example, if I have a presentation with fifty slides and I have a sound file that starts at Slide #15 and runs across slides till it ends at the end of Side #22 which has a duration of, say, ten seconds. If I want to have the slide change at the last beat of the song I need the timing exact. To make an adjustment, if I play Slide #22 I don't get sound; I need to start the show at Slide #15 then run through all eight slides during the song to get another shot at an adjustment. I really hope I'm missing something here and would love to have the option of just playing Slide #22 for ten seconds and have only the LAST approx. ten seconds of the song play so I can see the results of my previous adjustment...

A:Solved: Editing of Sound Files without having to play whole song

I don't think there is that option.
If you know the song length and the timing of the slides, surely you have all the information you need to get the sequence working?

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly.

The Microsoft web help says that the error message code is C00D11BA.
When I go into more options under the sync tab in media player, as the site suggests, and click on "speakers", the only choice for audio device is "default directsound device". After searching in add remove programs, I can't find any audio device or driver. The sound was working fine until I was deleted some programs which I don't use anymore...I could have deleted the driver by mistake. I have an acer aspire 3000...any suggestions on what to do?

Hi zoerella and welcome to TSF !

Does the sound work in your other programs ? Try the games like spider solitaire (press F5 and check that use sound is enabled) or pinball for instance.

Go to the device manager : start => run => devmgmt.msc. Tell us if there's some flag (yellow warning sign or red cross) in front of one of the devices there.

What's the exact model of your aspire 3000 (3050, 3027xy, ... or just 3000 ?) ? It seems that some laptops in the aspire 3000 serie uses a Crystal 423x sound device while others use a Realtek AC'97 sound device. Please use everest from the "posting system specs" link in my sig to find what's the model of your audio device.

If it's crystal 423x :
http://www.cirrus.com/en/software/dr...dio/Ps0192.zip
You'll have to unzip the files to some folder and install the drivers manually from the device manager

If it's Realtek :

select audio in the first list. Download and unzip the package and run setup.exe.

hi, this is my first post so bear with me. I am experiencing what looks to be a common problem with lack of sound on start up and system sounds also when trying to view flash files from You Tube and other such sites. I know a little about computers and have tried many things including many of the possible answers on other threads, all to no avail. I am running Windows XP 2002 service pack 2, Using SoundMAX integrated digital audio through 5.1 speaker system, have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Flash player with the latest version, All volume controls are turned up and not muted. I have no problems playing sound files with Itunes, Windows media player, mp3 files, dvds, cds and even Quicktime files when on the internet. When i access the Sounds and audio device Properties i cannot even preview the events sounds when set to windows default sound scheme. in the audio Tab my default choice is Soundmax Digital Audio for sound playback, and also for sound recording, with MIDI music playback default device set to Microsoft GS Waveable SW Synth. In the Hardware Tab it says the Soundmax device is working properly. Which i confirm by doing a sound test with the Soundmax control panel. I have also tried a system restore to when i knew the sound was working but it still has not helped. Please any help would be appreciated as i have been at this for a couple of days now.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Windows Media Player will play the files but can't save them as another format.

If I could convert them to another format I know Audacity and others can clean and edit them.

Does anyone know of software (free preferably) that can do this for 32kbps 4 bit 8kHz files?

Just play it in WMP and have Audacity record it, what could be easier? You could then save it as a WAV or mp3.

In some cases, if the speakers are cheaply made and not sheilded, they can acutally pickup radio waves (especially if you live near a radio tower). Does the "Talk radio" continue if the speakers are on, while the computer is off?

It's the most suspicious sound I've ever heard. It sounds exactly like fat, felt tip marker making a quick check on paper. It can also be compared to a rat sniff or a piece of paper being turned. I wear headphones and can hear this noise occasionally for up to 15 minutes. It likes to happen at night, when 'they' are active ( humor me ). Because of the sneaky, low volume, discreet, low down, creepy, stalky, shifty sound I am disposed to imagine that someone is looking through my files for credit information and they are unaware of these sounds from my sound card, or they don't care about the sound because they are safe from being caught.

Sound like I'm crazy? Just paranoid. I did say it makes me imagine. The kind of person I am is the same kind that will run system restore at a moment's notice for anything that looks suspicious or a NoScript violation. Because that sound is clearly designed to resemble a sniffing rat doing something sneaky on my computer. I tried to record the output with Audacity 1.3, but it had stopped before I had recorded anything.

My setup:

Windows XP Pro 64 bit Service Pack 2
Verizon High Speed Internet
Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller
LinkSys Router routing to a Windows 7 laptop, WPK-PSK, TKIP
Soundblaster Live!

SUPERAntiSpyware
NoScript
Mozilla FireFox

A:Solved: Suspicious sound coming from sound card output.

It was that Windows XP search dog. When you ctrl + f to open the search side bar in a window there is an animated dog that seems innocuous. Every 15 minutes or so it will scratch itself and make that noise twice. As long as that search side bar is open, minimized or not, that noise will persist.

Just built a new computer, and everything went smooth except that a small but sometimes very noticeable buzzing comes out my headphones. I cant really explain it other than its a high pitched buzz, that changes frequency depending on whats on my screen. On the desktop, or web browser its very fast, while when I go into a game it slows down but becomes louder. And when something is loading, as in when i bring up firefox, it pauses for a second, then continues buzzing, or when loading a game, at the loading screen it is completely quiet, then when I am in game, it continues. Another wierd thing is, if I am scrolling through a long webpage or text file really fast, the buzz will vary depending on how fast Im scrolling.
I actually had to take my sub woofer out because i t was amplifying the buzz probably almost 20-fold, so I'm going straight from headphones to the computer.
Also, changing the sound volume on the computer does not change the buzz.

Now, as far as I know, i have the latest sound drivers, I went to my motherboards website, and downloaded the audio driver for the gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L. Other than that I dont know what else it could be.

Hi,

Firstly thanks for the forums and support, I've used this forum before searching problems, finding solutions. But alas, this is the first time I've not been able to rectify my issue after searching on the forums.

My Spec:
AMD Phenom Quad core
Asus m4a79 deluxe

nVidia GFX card
Windows 7

There is no sound coming from my computer. There once was sound, but the computer was dormant for 6 months and I replaced the Power Supply, and now there is no sound. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling/updating all drivers. I've tried configuring my audio devices (Currently there are 4 listed: Speakers, RealTex HD Audio 2nd Output, Digital Output(RCA+ Optical) and RealTek Digital Output).

When I play sound, levels are shown going up and down, indicating that the audio devices are aware of the sound, but no matter what speakers I plug in I still don't get sound. I've tried 3 different outputs, 1 of which were headphones, all of which didn't work. I have also tried accessing my PC remotely from my iPad through SplashTop, which plays the sounds from the PC, weirdly.

I don't know what to try now and would appreciate any help or input.

Thanks

I'd suspect a faulty audio chipset. The hardware being recognized and the drivers installing aren't an indication that the hardware is actually functional.

With that being said, try a different version of the RealTek drivers. Try using the latest version available from Asus. If those don't work, try the latest version directly from RealTek.

billthelifer, good morning and welcome to Sunday. When you Right-Click on one of your MP3's, does a menu pop up and offer you a "Properties" option? If so, please select that and in the window that pops up, you should see a General tab, a Security tab and a Details tab.It is under the Details tab that you should be able to hover (and click) over any of the fields to add, remove or change any of the details that you want.I just tried this on a couple of MP3's on my Vista machine without any problems. Please note that I couldn't relplicate this with a wav file, as I don't have any of those, kinda big and all. Also, just as a quick aside, when you make your MP3's - what app are you using? Please let me know if that helps.Winterland

My computer has sound at startup but when I open wmv files and other formats, the video shows but not the sound. My "volume" is maximized and very loud when the computer starts and is shut off.

Is there some setting that I need to change?

Thanks

A:No sound on wmv files

I don't think there are any codecs for wmv files, so you could try opening the file with a different program such as Media Player Classic.

I've been tying to play some MOV files with Quicktime and while I get the video, there's no audio.

I think I might be missing a codec or something because I got a message the first time around saying something to the effect that it's missing software and will try to connect to Apple to download it, but it ended up not being able to connect to the site.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

A:No sound in MOV files

Try installing Quicktime Alternative, with or without the included player. It will not conflict with Quicktime (though it is a good replacement for it) and contains many codecs.

Happy New Year
To be honest, I really think the solution is to use another player. In lieu of that have you downloaded all the updates and have the newest version

I was using the install and change tool and there was a program "RON tool cpmsky" with no size or publisher info. When I try to uninstall it, it asks for a verification code which wants me to type the letters and numbers displayed above the text box. When I type the code and choose continue, the dialog box closes but nothing else happens. How can I get rid of this program?

A:Pop Ups and Sound Files

I am frequently getting pop ups that have the title "RON ads by cpmsky" even when I don't have any browser windows open. I also have had sound files that are of someone talking about buy.com or something. There's a program in the uninstall/remove windows tool with the title RON tool cpmsky with no publisher or size information. When I try to uninstall it, it asks if I'm sure and warns me my computer may not run the same as before. I chose yes, and it wants me to type in a series of 7 letters and numbers displayed above the text box as an uninstall validation. I do and it closes the box but nothing happens. If I type it wrong, it doesn't close the box and says the code is invalid.

Also, when I log in, two "iexplore" processes start without any internet explorer windows opening.

also, sorry for not making a new post, I couldn't figure out how to edit the first one.

you might be missing a codec. try either watching it in VLC Media player or go to www.free-codecs.com and get one of the codec packs they have there.

Ok...yesterday I had to reformat my C drive. I installed Windows XP and everything worked find, except I have no sound. I know I need to install drivers so I went into diagnostics and it says I have no sound card. How in the world did I have sound before? Maybe my sound is in the motherboard? If so, how do I find out what drivers I need?

Hey! I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 (laptop). Recently, my sound has been messed up. While playing any type of music, be it a CD, youtube, streaming music, or itunes, my music would skip. When I asked someone what I should do, they recommended that I update my sounddrivers or install new ones. So I updated my sounddrivers and everthing. It all seemed to go well during the installation process by now my sound doesn't work! PERIOD. When I go to my device manager, there's yellow question mark next to "SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC", my sound driver.

Do you know what I should do next? Anyone know what my next step should be to fix this problem?? Thanks!
