Network Card is eating my lunch

Q: Network Card is eating my lunch

I have a Linksys 10/100 PCI card thats been purring like a kitten in my machine for months.

After changing a few BIOS settings my WIN98 setup went south and had trouble finding files and associations?! This wasn't a biggie because I was about to reinstall everything anyway.

So I reinstall everything, then follow the procedure I've used several times to reinstall my Linksys card. I load the correct drivers, but this time a message pops up in the System Properties of my LNE100TX Ethernet card it says:

quote:
This device is not working properly because windows cannot load the file(odiload.vxd)that loads the drivers for this device(code 8)

I managed to find a copy of odiload.vxd on the net and put it in the Windows/System directory, but the same message pops up.(The file might be a bit old, not sure if this effects things or not).

Any help would be great, this ones got me completely foxed. Especially since the cards installed perfectly many times.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Under Windows 10 on a T430, I am having the problem described at https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/tp02_en/thread-id/54452/page/1 The latest driver for the Ricoh SD card reader causes the CPU to race, eating the battery. We have two T430's in my household and T430s's and at least three have developed this problem. Although this issue has been known for a while, there appears no solution other than disabling the card reader, which I sometimes use. The computers are out of warranty, but I did manage to connect with a tech support person through the support system, who said they would recommend re-imaging the hard drive, .i.e., going back to the operating system as shipped. If this is the institutional response, then the implication is that Lenovo doesn't promise that its products will continue to work as intended if you upgrade Windows. So perhaps the solution is to switch to Apple, or Microsoft laptops, to achieve better integration between hardware and software. At any rate, I'm done with Lenovo.

My Son won a laptop for getting good grades in school, its a Dell Inspiron 2200 Intel Celeron with Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2 Service Pack 2 installed on it. The processor is 1.50 GHz and he has 248MB of RAM.

Problem 1, is that something happened to the laptop and now nothing can be played, music wise, on the laptop because it says there is no device installed. Now I figured I could just use the recovery disk on it when I came up to visit but since he won it through his school all he got was the laptop and the packet with information in it and he didnt get any disks with it.

Problem 2, is that I bought my son a Logitech mouse for his laptop and ran the disk on the computer and then plaugged the mouse into it but the cursor will not move.

So basically that the two problems I have and was wondering if anybody can assist me so I can get my sons confuser straightened out.

Is there any way to get the Windows 8 and Hotmail calendars to keep appointments and not shift them around when my computer changes its time zone?

I always eat lunch at 1 PM, it doesn't change when I fly to Ireland from Germany.
And when I make an appointment with someone in Israel at 6 PM in a week's time, I really do not want to calculate what the difference is to my current time zone so as to avoid having dinner at 4 PM or 8 PM depending on wether I was east or west of Jerusalem at the time of making the appointment.
Basically I want the calendar to work like a paper calendar. If I tell that I will do X at time Y, I want X to remain set for Y, not Y+Z with Z being the difference in hours between the two time zones, the one I will be in and the one I am in when making the appointment.
What should I do?

A:Lunch doesn't have a time zone. Neither have I.

Hi there
I tend to use a phone for appointments - but I think on a computer there is some software (paid) to do this
Godot & Co

I haven't tried this so I don't know if it's any good - the phone though does it all automatically.

We are all familiar with the concept ?there is no such thing as a free lunch?. There is always an agenda that involves us giving information up or doing something to earn the lunch.

Recently Kaspersky Lab announced their adding of a free antivirus to their portfolio, making them a member of the growing list of vendors that give away their security software, apparently for free.

We all know that there is no such thing as a free lunch, or security product, so what?s the catch?

I?ve taught my son that when you download an app that?s ?free? you need to understand how the company makes money ? maybe advertising, cross? and up?selling, in?app purchases ? and if you can?t see how then you are probably what they make money from. Of course, it may be by all the methods mentioned, the key is to understand what you are trading to use a free product.

There are numerous ways free products can potentially make money and, like me, you may have experienced ?some (or all)? of the examples below at some stage. All these methods are examples in use by free security products being offered for download at the time of writing.

A:What’s the cost of a free lunch?

There is nothing for free. Someone or somehow it's getting paid. Now the question is are you directly paying for it or the company benefits in some other way that doesn't really affect you.

The only problem is that the usual things that come to mind don't seem to apply here...

I have done the following:

- made the usual adjustments in the Power Settings
- have disabled items in Task Scheduling that start when idle
- have scanned the Event list, searched log files, etc.
- disabled Search related
- have sat and watched Task manager processes
- disabled screen savers
- performed all updates to windows and drivers
- used system restore to backup to a known working condition

What happens is that if I work on this computer all day, there are no problems. However, if I go away from the computer for approximately 20 minutes or so, when I return I have a computer that will allow me to move the cursor around, etc., but as soon as I click the desktop background, right click the taskbar, etc. we're done. The cursor spins, the mouse still moves, but the computer is completely unresponsive and the only recourse is to reboot...

The Event list always includes an item that says the following (different time/date):

The previous system shutdown at 7:11:24 PM on 3/11/2009 was unexpected.

even though the system still appears to be running. With regard to the previous shutdown, I've not been able to determine exactly what caused or invoked it, though it sure sounds like standby - even though it didn't actually standby...

I'd have contacted HP, but I know they just have you reinstall the OS and that's something I'm not interested in doing ever... Read more

I need a formula that will keep track of hours worked (I can do that part of the formula) AND subtract 30 minutes for lunch if the employee works 5 hours or more.

Ex. Start time 7:00 (A1)
Quit time 15:30 (A2)
Total Hours 8:30 (Clocked In)

I tried A2-A1 and got the total hours but I need to have Excel automatically subtract :30 for lunch and I can't figure out how to do that.
Someone on another forum suggested =IF((A2-A1)>5,A2-A1-0.5,A2-A1) but it didn't subtract the lunch break.
Thanks for your help in advance.

How can this even happen?

I downloaded from zip files 16 new albums--all by the same artist (an audio series)--named those 16 albums as I wished, divided them into 4 folders (4 albums in each) and named those folders as I wished. All in my MY Music folder. Then I went to lunch.

I came back, the folders were no longer there. After I did a search, I found them in a new general folder named by the computer, the 4 main folders were gone and all the names on the 16 album folders were changed.

The important fact on this is that none of the music had been played by any player. Why this is important is that not only these 16 new albums but also 12 other unplayed albums (divided into 3 folders of 4 albums each) were also all moved/name changed. I had had those albums on my computer for weeks and they happily stayed put.

All changes were made to some internal name of the files--that is to say, the main folder to which they were all dumped (with no more 4 to a folder delineation) was some name from the original files.

It would certainly seem I either got the weirdest of bugs or I hit some command that said "take all my unplayed music and make it the downloaded name instead of the name I gave it and put it all in 1 folder."

This also happened to me one other time with itunes. But there, i ripped some cds, put them in folders as I wished, and each time I played something the name was automatically changed and it was put in a new folder; same thing, some original name fro... Read more

So basically I tried this with many games. For example when I ran Gmod and when the game moves me to the text menu the computer restarts. I did look into it online and there is something wrong with my charger. I bought a charger which is not Dell Brand( My Computers Brand) and I guess it doesn't supply the power it needs. However, when I am playing the game without the charger plugged in it works fine.

I would like to know if there is anyway to change some settings so I can fool my computer, so I can play the games with my charger on.

I don't want to buy a new charger because I might get a new computer this Christmas.

A:Computer restarting every time I lunch a game.

Try changing your power settings to save more energy while playing a game. Your laptop is probably overheating while the charger is plugged in because it freely uses more power. Make sure the fan vent is clear of dust.

If that doesn't help, the other likely problem is that your charger might not be a sufficient wattage. Newer games require chargers that are above 100w. If your charger is <100w, this could be the problem.

So i returned to my work computer after lunch and the resolution had been changed to 800x600, very odd.
Now i have spent 2 hours trying to get back my resolution to the 1680x1050 that is was before but i still can not choose anything higher then 1600x1200 under Screen Resolution settings. The one with the correct ratio i can choose is 1280x960 and i'd like to bigger one back.

I have updated the driver for my graphics card (ATI Radeon 3000 Graphics accoridng to Device Manager). I have updated the driver for the Monitor (HP LE2201w), but the monitor still shows up as Generic Non-PnP Monitor under Device Manager and now i am out of ideas... I really have no idea what the hell happened when i was gone.
(And yes, the computer was locked so it wasn't someone else changing something)

Uninstalling the driver for the Generic device does nothing, it pops back up again after installing the correct display driver, or after a restart. It's like the display driver i downloaded from HP is not being installed, no idea why.

I thought i'd post this and the boot into the bios and prod around see if i can find something, because at the moment i've lost all hope...

A:Resolution got changed over lunch, cannot revert back to prev. setting

I don't think monitors require drivers. I know you said you uninstalled the driver for the 'Generic Device', but have you tried your graphics driver? It could either be the driver or a third party software messing with the setup.

I'm curious, run a DXDiag by typing into Start Menu Search or typing DXDIAG in Run Command. Check the Display tab for any errors.

I pretty much don't really know much about my p.c. system as I'm not usually the one looking into the works of my p.c. In fact all I know is what I've seen others do. So forgive me in my ignorance. I've looked around and saw that either no one has my issue
or if they do, the fixes are generally confusing.
I bought a laptop (with windows 8) bout 3-4 months ago. I not sure if the issues started when I upgraded to windows 8.1 or just afterwards but they've been going on for a few weeks. My computer is running out of virtual memory at the most random times. Usually
it starts to run out of virtual memory after a couple of days of it being left on (with standby). If I close most my active programs the memory changes by 2-10%. If I have more then four programs open at this stage it warns me that my virtual memory is being
used up. (I am usually using Chrome (or firefox but that would refuse to stay open for more then 5 seconds so I uninstalled it), steam (chatting only), musicbee and task manager.)

My only virus scan is Windows defender and it claims no threats were detected.
I have 6 gig of ram but I'm not positive how to check virtual memory. Or even where to start with fixing this issue.

Anyway thank you in advance and if you need more information just let me know.

A:"service host: Local system (network restricted)(11)" eating virtual memory

First, let me explain that Virtual memory is used when your RAM is filled up or when you put a laptop into hibernate mode (hibernate mode essentially dumps your RAM onto the hard drive so it can pick up where it left off even after power is shut off).
Since the general shut down of Windows 8 or 8.1 likes a combined hibernate so that windows can start up quickly, I consider that this issue is caused by such shut down and fast boot.
I suggest we disable fast boot to check the issue:
To Turn "Fast Startup" On or Off in System Settings on this article:
Also, we can try to reset virtual memory to see what?s going on.
Configure Virtual Memory in Windows 8
If the issue persists, please test it in Clean boot mode:
How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista
If the issue doesn?t appear, you can determine which one can be the cause by using dichotomy in MSconfig. Checking on half of Non-Microsoft service and restart, determining which half of the services cause the issue and repeating to check half of the problematic
half services.
If the issue persists in Clean boot mode, let?s run Process explorer to view which program calling service host causing this issue, and we can remove it to see what?s ... Read more

This sounds like an IRQ problem, which is strange because modern PCs can usually resolve these conflicts automatically. But seeing that your system is a Pentium 4, maybe the motherboard is old enough to still be dealing with the issue.

One thing you could try is to perform a Clear CMOS procedure. This will force the motherboard to re-enumerate all the devices and will often solve IRQ conflicts. Note all your current BIOS settings
Shut down the computer > remove the power cord.
Remove the 3v motherboard battery.
Move the CLRTC jumper from pins 1-2 to 2-3.
Touch a metal part of the case and Press and Hold the reset button for approx. 30 seconds to discharge all power from the board.
Put the CLRTC jumper back on pins 1-2.
Replace the 3v battery > replace the power cord > boot.
Immediately go back into BIOS and reset all your preferred settings. If the CLRTC worked you will need to reset the date and time in BIOS.
If that does not work then you could try to get the 2 cards to play nice together by installing them in different locations, if you have the extra slots.

Keep in mind that when removing any card it is important to remove it from Device Manager first. Remove it from Device Manager > shut down > then physically remove the card > then restart into Windows > then you can shut down perform the next procedure.

Sometimes you can simply install the newer card in another PCI/PCIe slot and that will resolve the conflict. (You must re... Read more

Other devices in my home connect to the network just fine, and the problem laptop has always been fine until now. My network card is an Atheros AR9285, and I'm attempting to connect to a Medialink router with WPA password protection and AES encryption.

My wireless network icon in the task bar has a yellow sign with an exclamation point in it. It says "No Internet access."

I have tried:

-rebooting the computer
-unplugging and restarting the modem and router
-going to the command prompt and renewing my IP address with the command IPCONFIG/RENEW

None of this works.

Like I said, all other devices in my house connect to the wireless network with no problem. It's just this one laptop. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A:Windows 7 laptop with Atheros AR9285 network card can't connect to wireless network

Three things to try ...

If you have McAfee please see the sticky thread at the top of this (Networking) forum.

Disable encryption on the router and try to connect. If successful you can probably re-enable encryption and reconnect.

Revert to a System Restore Point before the weekend.

My rig uses a Centrino Advanced-N 6230 wireless mini half-card. It reports the correct name except within the wireless network list. Instead of 6230 it reports 6320. I searched the registry to see if I could find the error, but nothing found. It's only a nuisance, and a minor one at that. Anyone else seen this? Any way I can correct it? See image below:

A:Network card name reporting incorrectly in wireless network list area

Can only suggest you may not be using the latest wireless driver, but if you are, it must be a typo in the signature file written into the card's firmware which can only be changed by the manufacturer and may be noticed by them in the next release.

If its working, I wouldn't loose any sleep over it.

This sounds really noobie of me but is it possible to improve local network transfer speed by adding a 2nd network card. I was planning to connect one exclusively for lan transfers and another one hooked to a separate wireless router.

Right now only a maximum of 3 users can stream SD videos off the PC before it gets a little choppy.

The pc in question runs on windows 7 and it's board has built in gigabit, I happen to have a spare gigabit card.

A:Will adding a 2nd network card improve local network transfer speed

That won't really help the way you are describing the problem, although adding access points will help with streaming to wireless devices.

Although there is a setting in Group Policy that allows you to use two connections at the same time, I don't believe it will help in this situation.

I've done many HD movie streaming tests on my system.

I can stream from my media PC to at least 7 other machines at the same time, 4 wired, 3 wireless, plus my TV, and have no problems at all, no skipping, no freezing, even with the same movie in the same place or with 8 different movies at once, my TV is connected to my media center PC so counts as the 8th one.

This is Gb LAN, and 300Mbps wireless but even the 65Mbps limited laptop has no problem.

I'm not really sure why you are seeing these limitations but it may be the router.

My friend had been having some trouble with his graphics card, it kept crashing during games, and eventually seemed to burn out all together. So he bought a new one.

When he installed it, the network was gone, he had to reinstall his network card drivers, then he updated his graphics card drivers. Everything seems peachy.

He loaded up starcraft II, and the game crashes to desktop everytime, He can't even select a mode to play. So he uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them. Now the game loaded up just fine, and he can play... BUT when it loads up the network crashes and he has to reinstall the network drivers.

After the computer restarts he loaded up starcraft II, and now it crashes again. So it seems like everytime he updates the network drivers it screws up the graphics card, and everytime he updates the graphics card drivers it screws up the network card.

I've never heard of a problem like this so I'm at a loss to help.

Hi folks,

This forum has been extremely helpful for me in the past, so I'm testing your awesomeness once again.

I've had an unusual networking problem for about a year and a half. When browsing the web, certain requests will just never complete, on any browser. Downloads are often interrupted (anything larger than 10MB is nearly impossible). Even large transfers between this machine and others on my local network will fail. SCP connections will sometimes abort in the middle of a transfer.

It's quite inconsistent. I don't have this problem for any particular resource, and the failure point is different every time. If a particular page isn't rendering, I can often go to my.yahoo.com (which for some reason always seems to work) and hit the back arrow, and then the request will often complete normally.

Google is a little unique: when I encounter this problem on Google, I have to wait for the original requests to be aborted (after about 26 seconds) before any further requests to Google will succeed.

I can't say exactly when it started, but it was reasonably close to the time I updated a driver for my network adapter, as instructed.

At the time, I was on a wired network, using a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller adapter, connecting through the wired port of an old Netgear router (sorry, I don't have the model number) to cable broadband (with NuVisions).

Since then, I have changed just about everything except my motherboard. I've disabled my old network a... Read more

Sorry, I didn't complete the checklist!

I have no anti-virus, security or firewall software. I've run numerous scans since the problem began, and they've always been clean.

Our internet service provider updated our internet speed from 100mbps to 1000mbps for no extra cost. We had a Netgear n150 wireless router but it wouldn't support the 1000mbps speed. We were told we needed to upgrade to a r6300 netgear router which is capable of 1000mbps. Now were are told we need to install an ethernet PCI network card or a network adapter. I am told we have to have a 2.0 port for the network adapter to work. It would be cheaper for us to install the internal Ethernet PCI Card, my problem is I don't know which one to buy. I know we need one that is rated 1000mbps, are these universal or will we have to buy one that fits each brand of computer?

Sister has Lenova 3000 c200 series laptop, approx 5 years old which has onboard network card which according to specs (as I haven't looked inside), has
IEEE 802.11b and IEEE 802.11g,her linksys router is about same age too and am sure they both need updating, especially as she is moving to area where broadband speed check shows it will be even slower than where she lives now...

Question is :-

Can I upgrade to IEEE 802.11n, and if so, do I have to change the old internal card, or can I buy and insert an external network card adaptor, and then change BIOS settings to disable internal one and enable new one.Just want easiest solution please.
Will also upgrade her router.
Any help much appreciated

I recently reformatted my computer and reinstalled Vista to it. I installed all the necessary drivers etc. and rebooted. But it still says "You are not connected to any networks" when the light on my router says that i am connected to the home network. It keeps saying to insert a network cable.
In the devices manager, the network card driver seems to be functioning normally.

Is there a fix for this?

The network card is a Realtek RTL 8111C on-board chip.

Also, ive read somewhere else that USB & 1394 drivers having conflicting effects with lan drivers. I installed an "Intel INF Configuration patch" which contained a crapload of USB Drivers which supposedly "configured properly" the intel motherboard chipsets, but im not so sure about that.

I'm trying (desperately) to set up my network on Windows 7, but have hit a bump in that it just cannot find my network.

I checked Device Manager to see if the card was found - it was with a troubleshoot exclamation point on it.

I removed the card, used the installation disc and am not able to get very far. After the install (after which nothing happens), I click on the Belkin Wireless Networking Utility icon on the desktop and it says "missing shortcut: searching for Belkinwcui.exe", after which I get a window saying "The item Belkinwcui.exe that this shortcut refers to has been changed of moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly".

That exe file isn't anywhere in my computer, searching through Explorer. In fact, in the Belkin install folder (Program Files (x86) -> Belkin ->FSD8001v1...) there just looks like maybe a driver (AegisE5.dll) and an application (AegisI5) that doesn't run.

My next choice, I guess is to take my PC upstairs and line it into my modem/base station directly, but I'd rather not move it.

Am I missing something? Why won't this work? How come I can't install my Wireless Card?

Please help, if you can. Thanks.

A:Cannot Setup Wireless Network (Belkin N1 Network Card)

I'm experiencing an almost identical issue. I had the same problems with the installation disc. After multiple install / unistall / restarts I was able to get the client installed. However, when I click to open the .exe nothing happens.

On top of that, the system is not recognizing the card. I tried all 4 PCI slots with no success.

I installed this same card (same model, different physical card) on a pc running xp sp3 very easily. Since that was so easy I bought another card for my windows 7 machine.

However, I was lazy and didn't do any research. Before I came upon this forumn I found a couple of google links saying this card was incompatible with vista (therefore incompatible with w7?).

Any else out there get this card working?

I'm not sure if I'm trying to do the impossible but I'll explain the situation.

I have this roommate that is excessively consuming the majority of the networks bandwidth. I've blocked all service ports except for 443, 80, and a few other ones used for every day task. The problem is that he is still consuming a ton of bandwidth, I'm guessing by streaming or downloading through HTTP.

I have *two* WGR614v10 router, and a Realtek PCIe LAN card controller at my disposal. I attempted to set QoS settings on what we will call Base Router. That did not seem to do the trick because router QoS only blocks ports and slows upload speed. Since that did not work I hid the SSID/MAC filtered connections to the Base Router and then connected my computer to the Base Router and rebroadcasted the signal using a Secondary Router using a shared connection, which I gave him access to. The point of this was an attempt to control bandwidth through the Realtek LAN card; I am not having any luck with this though. I've set the adapter to 10Mbps at half duplex already.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can look into for limiting bandwidth? I want him to have Internet but not abuse it like he's doing because that is not what we agreed upon.

A:How to limit network traffic speeds with a network card?

If you want to solve the issue using your existing equipment, you can try dd-wrt on one WGR614v10. See this thread (DD-WRT Forum :: View topic - WGR614v10 Support - Jump to post 9) which claims that there is a dd-wrt flash for WNR1000v3 which works on WGR614v10. Then look a thread like this (DD-WRT Forum :: View topic - Steps for Permanently limit Bandwidth of a PC using DD-WRT ?) to setup the limits. You can start a new thread in those forums if you want someone to walk you thru the steps.

Or you can just buy a router/access point that has a bandwidth limiting feature for each SSID that it broadcasts.

Hello, seem to be having a rather serious issue with my laptop lately. It seems to be occasionally going through a sort of crash. First it "stutters", locking up, unable to move the mouse, if audio is playing it will loop. Then it just resets itself, as if crashing. There's been no consistency on to what causes it, or how often. Playing a Youtube video, running a virus scan, trying to reinstall the network driver, or even just trying to open up the network center in control panel. Sometimes it will go ten minutes, sometimes a couple hours before resetting itself. When it comes back, I no longer have any wireless network capabilities, and the network driver is missing. The icon displays a box, rather then a wifi symbol, with a red 'x', and says "No connections available". Resetting it again seems to fix it, but some times it takes a a few tries. And sometimes it seems I lose just my wireless network capabilities, without a crash (something that happened while writing out this post). The icon stays a wifi symbol, but with a red x. No one else in my household is having any issues, and my phone connects just fine. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the wireless driver, but that doesn't seem to work. I reset the modem, of course, but that didn't solve it. I ran a diagnostic with the Dell Support Assist, but it said it passed and detected no issue. Only solution I've found seems to be to restart it, and hope it takes a while before it ... Read more

Windows 7 runs fine and I can play games with the 5Gb...but... I can't seen to get on the internet! It comes up saying unidentified network! I take out the 2Gb and everything is ok again and i can get back online and everything.

I was told to make sure all my drivers are updated which I did and they are all up to date.

Please help, does anyone have any answers??

I'm having a problem with a network card and its driving me mad! I've installed the card (Dynamode NC-100TX-R) and Windows detects it. The drivers they supplied on the floppy were Realtek RTL8139 Drivers which were for Win 95/Win 98 and I have XP so I went on the Realtek site and downloaded the latest drivers for the RTL8139. When I installed the drivers everything seemed fine until I plugged in the cable. All it says is "Network Cable Unplugged" even when the lights at the back of the card are flashing indicating a connection. Everything on the other end of the cable is fine and I've checked all the settings and they seem right. Can anyone help?

Hello, I have a Geforce Fx5200 graphics card and up till now, it has worked ok. But I'm trying to upgrade to a Radeon 2400pro, which i have done... But as soon as i plug in my network cable, my computer freezes :( it does not do this with the Geforce card. It's most certainly a problem with the graphics card since it's only happening with it in, but i might have to do something with the Network settings or card or w.e :P but i don't know what.. If anyone could help, i'd appreciate it. If you need more information just ask :D

A:XP - Network card problem with VGA Card

hello & welcome to TSF ,

i know this may sound like a dunb question !!

did you uninstall the drivers & software for the GForce Fx5200 ?

now what i need to do is go to your (device manager)

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

now if you see any (red or yellow) quotation marks , make a note of what they

now go to the (event veiwer) this is thru the (administrator tools) in the control panel
here you will find 3 to 4 subcatagories

you will want to check each of them for this is where windows keeps track of all errors
now you will want to make notes of the errors that have been recorded ( you do not have to make notes of double entries just of the dates of their happenings & how many there is)
you will get more information on the errors if you (right) click them / then select properties

then get back to us

Just installed a new network card on hubbies computer. It gets him on the internet OK but now I can't find him on our home network (before adding the new card the reverse was the case). We replaced the card because it kept dropping the driver so we figured it must be on its way out. Problem we have is that HP has their card built into the motherboard in a little silver box that also contains the USB plugs (sounds like the kind of crap Packard Bell used to pull making it impossible to do some upgrades). We installed the card and at first it wouldn't connect at all, the original Realtek kept connecting when the computer booted. We then added the little WOL cable (guess it's some sort of jumper cable Belkin includes - not always needed the instructions say). Well, after adding the cable, the Realtek still boots on starting the machine but now he can get onto the internet with no trouble. Tried disabling the Realtek, but then nothing works. Anyway around this so we can access his machine on our network?? There are a couple of programs that came with that machine I would like to have access to.

A:Computer w/ new network card can't be seen on network

Since it sees the network I would start off not worrying about anything else on the card as its obvious it is working.

First off I would do 2 things-

1) Go into the bios and disable the onboard ethernet controller. If its bad then really its just trying to use an onboard resource that by disabling it you can free up.
2) If the WOL part has a place to hook it to on the MB leave it in place but remember that 99.9% percent of the home users will NEVER use this functionality and that little cable won't ever come into play as being a problem component usually. This WOL (or Wake On LAN) is a way to remotely turn on the PC over a LAN and is usually for network administrators at large companies.

When you say you can't find his PC I am assuming you mean in network neighborhood right? If this is the case have you tried pinging from one PC to the other? Have you tried pinging by both machine name and IP? What are the results from doing that?
