Win 10 Device Manager not showing drive information correctly

Q: Win 10 Device Manager not showing drive information correctly

howdy, ive noticed lately that the information for hard drivers is totally incorrect, all firmware for drives is up to date, mobo bios is latest but drive info is sque wiff

Preferred Solution: Win 10 Device Manager not showing drive information correctly

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

If you look at drive properties in the device manager, there is a 'Details' tab with a property called "Location information". It specifies Bus Number, Target ID, and LUN for the hard drive.

I have several drives and I was curious about the physical properties so I made a little diagram starting from the Device manager and cutting and pasting various other infos.

I was curious to see that I had two 'Bus Number 0' in my system - One for the JMicron drive port and one for the Marvell drive port.

Is this normal?

The picture below shows drive name, volumes on it and format type, Bus name, Disk number, and physical device object name:

A:How to interpret device manager drive Location Information

Upon further research I found another user with a similar motherboard and disk setup.
The reference states that they encounter the same bus number, too:

Hi, Recently I did reset my HP dm4 notebook to factory defaults setting and noticed that CD/DVD drive is not appearing in windows explorer "my computer". When I checked in Device Manager, there also I do not find it. When I push the eject button the drive opens though.  I ran the find and fix problems utility in control panel and the following message appeared "Problems found: Hardware changes might not have detected -- detected  !" I'd checked the registry if there are any upper/lower filter keys...there aren't any. I ran the command "sfc /scannow" in command prompt (admin) and checked again in device manager, but no luck. Does this mean my CD/DVD drive is gone OR can be fixed? if it can be fixed, how?

I'm not sure if this issue has been covered in here yet, sorry if it has, I tried searching for it but the search wasn't working so here goes...

I installed windows 7 32 bit and it is not recognizing my dvd drive. It is not showing up in the device manager or anything, but does show up in the bios. I have tried going into the registry and deleting the upper and lower filters, disabling driver signature enforcement upon startup, and entering "bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS" in command prompt, but nothing worked.

I ended up trying to boot from cdrom on startup and was able to to do that. I opened the drive, took out the windows 7 disc, restarted the computer, and windows finally detected my dvd drive and everything was fine. I eventually restarted the computer and now it is not detecting the drive again. Has anyone else run in to this or know what I can do to fix it? Thanks.

Ive got two optical drives, a CDROM and DVDROM, they are both on the same IDE channel.

I was having problems with the DVD ROM showing up under "My Computer" so I had a look around and checked everything was set up correctly, DVDROM is on the Master and the CDROM is on the Slave, the little connectors are on the correct things and everything is physically setup correct.

I was looking through device manager and noticed that the DVD ROM isnt showing up under "DVD/CD-ROM Drives" but I did have something else, under "Disk Drives" there is a third device with my two existing hard drives, this is labeled "SCSI Disk Device".

Looks like my DVDROM is showing up as a hard disk :/ Ive got no idea how to fix this. Hoped that some of you might

I was just farting around earlier doing a bit of maintenance and the usual checks when I expanded Disk drives in Device Manager. My SSD, Caviar Black, Caviar Green and Hitachi USB external drive all showed up fine, but I also have a weird 'ghost' drive showing up in there too which has a very strange name.

I have no other storage device attached via USB at all for definite, and the only thing I can think of is whether this is a leftover from when I tried to apply ASUS USB 3.0 Boost to a Kingston Data Traveler while trying to get USB 3.0 speeds out of my front ports (which didn't work). That may or may not be the case, and I've no idea how long that weird drive has been showing up as I haven't checked the Disk drives expanded for a while, I was just wondering if anybody had any idea as to what could have caused that to be showing up?

A:Strange USB Drive Showing in Device Manager

I decided to uninstall the drive as it couldn't be real, so I made a Restore Point and uninstalled it through Device Manager. I rebooted and Windows installed the weird drive again.

Now I'm really confused. I can account for every USB peripheral that's plugged into the rig and they're all accounted for in Device Manager too. Opening Computer doesn't show an extra drive either. This is going to bug me until I get to the bottom of it.

I have just re-installed Vista on my Laptop, but now it is not seeing the DVD/CD drive. Well, its not in Device Manager.

I can eject the drive so its not a power issue and i can put a DVD/CD in and the light will show for a few seconds then die.

It is showing in the BIOS (i just installed a new system from it) plus i have just put the Vista disk in and booted again, and it picked it up ready to install a new system again.

I had this last year, but solved it in the registry by removing the Upper & Loower filters, but there are none showing.

I have looked in a few Forums and tried a few things now, but no good.

Can anyone please help, its driving me crazy

I just has my PC rebuilt by a pretty suspicious gang who put in Windows 7 on a 64 but system and now the DVD drive not only will not appear on COMPUTER but has the usual yellow explanation mark beside it.

I have uninstalled it, reinstalled it, tried to roll the driver back, update the software etc. but nothing works.

I can find a firmware file on the net that says it is applicable to this DVD but after extracting the file, up pops a menu with Version 1.1 on saying that is not available for this DVD............... and I can't get beyond that.

Additionally Windows says some mumbo jumbo about the digital dignature being unverified and/or damaged files from malicious software etc. etc.

The piece of crap in question is:

Pioneer DVD-RW DVR 219L ATA Device.

It is absolute garbage retailing at $26.00 so will have no problems tearing it out by its entrails and putting in something decent.

Any ideas advices appreciated.

A:Solved: DVD Drive not showing and yellow explanation mark on Device Manager

1. Click on "Start" button, the click on "Run".

2. Enter "regedit.exe" and press "Enter".

3. When regedit starts, open up the following key:
{4d36e965-e325 -11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}.

4. After clicking on {4d36e965-e325 -11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} you should see two settings on the right-hand side:
Click on each of them, press "Delete" key and click "Yes".

Or you can download this reg file to do the same thing.

Use CDGone Variant if the other didn't work or you once had Roxio, but use the other one first.

Something happened to my device manager that is keeping it from operating correctly. When I select ANY device and select Update Driver Software, it does absolutely nothing. It does not bring up the window asking how you wish to look for drivers. If I select ANY device and select Uninstall it does nothing. When I plug in a USB device, it shows the device along with a yellow caution symbol.

I ran sfc /scannow which did not report any problems. I ran a virus and maleware check which did not report any problems. But now I am unable to connect new USB devices. This means I can't connect my smartphone and perform backups or sync with my address book and calendar any longer.

I have not downloaded any new software but I did try going back to a restore point just in case a windows update caused this to happen. But the restore displayed a message that it failed to restore properly.

I am afraid that if my only choice is to reload Windows 7, that I will lose all of my installed applications which would need to be reinstalled. That would be a nightmare.

I don't know where else to look to try to repair this situation.

Hello there. I have an HP dv9700 notebook, which about an year ago began having serious screen problems. It went black and nothing made it come back, even though Windows still booted (sounds came up and everything).

After almost an year repairing, and 3 Intel motherboards later, the technician found out the problem was on the dedicated graphics card memory, and put an AMD motherboard on my notebook which didn't have dedicated graphics memory anymore.

So now my notebook is recognized by HP automatic product detection as a dv9010us one. Plus, my graphics card is now shown as a GeForce Go 6150 (I bought it as a GeForce 6800 GS).

Since then the PC has been working flawlessly, except for now. Last night I was using the notebook, turned it off and went to sleep. Now I turned it on once again it simply can't detect the wireless device. It's like it doesn't exists!

I never changed the position of the notebook or anything to say the card moved or something internally. I check the Device Manager and there's no sign of the 802.11 adapter. It only shows the local ethernet adapter (wired connection working flawlessly as I'm writing right now from it) and bluetooth adapter. And yes, the light on the wireless switch on my notebook is blue (which means turned on). I tried putting it to off (orange) and then on again (blue), but it doesn't works. All that happens is that windows "disconnected" sound (like when you remove an USB device) when I turn it off.

Two of the four USB ports in my motherboard were not working properly. After plugging in any USB device it would recognize something was there, try to find a driver for it, but fail at doing so. These are plug and play devices I had never had problems with before. The device manager said the SM bus was not installed properly. I reinstalled the chipset driver and that fixed one of the USB ports; however, one is still not working. When I plug in any USB Device there is no audible ding, no "this device is not recognized" pop-up, and it isn't even showing up as 'unknown device' in the Device Manager. I'm not sure what could be wrong.

USB devices attempted:

Without more PC specifications, including what sound module, we can't really offer much advice.

However, one thing I see is the "High Defintion Audio Device". That suggests the drivers for the sound hardware are not installed and only the generic, basic function, Windows installed sound driver.

I have a MSI GT70 2OD, I have not really ever used bluetooth, so im not sure how long I have had the problem.
Running Windows 8.1 and everything updated. My computer does not seem to realize that it has bluetooth. The computer has the Killer Bigfoot Doubleshot Lan/Wlan/Btooth card. When I look in device manager there is no bluetooth, and i guess therefor no option in windows to toggle on/off bluetooth.

In the details tab of task manager there is a btvstack running and if I go to my bluetooth folder location I can run bttray.exe and have that running in details tab, however the tray icon does not appear.

I have looked quite a bit to find that it seems to be quite a common problem and not specific to MSI however cannot find a clear solution.

Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Thanks in Advance.

Needless to say from the thread title, I only have one mouse and one keyboard plugged-in. Everything works correctly, but was just curious if there's any particular reason why this is happening.

A:Why does device manager showing duplicates?

I believe what you are showing us is the Devices & Printers window. It would be interesting to see if the devices show twice in the Device Manager (Start > Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Device Manager)

I've seen this happen when 2 different drivers are installed for the same device: one is a generic Windows driver that gets installed when Windows discovers new hardware and installs the driver for it, and a second when the user installs the manufacturer's driver afterward. This should not happen, but sometimes it does. I suspect poorly written driver software.

Since this is a mouse and keyboard you could experiment with removing one of each. You will not be offered the option to remove a working mouse or keyboard in Devices and Printers, but the doppelganger may show the Remove Device option.

If that is not an option then let us know what you find in the Device Manager. Particularly under Properties > Driver that might give a clue.

A:bluetooth not showing up in device manager

Hi: Didn't you have to plug in a little USB thing for the wireless and keyboard to work? They don't normally run off the PC's bluetooth radio. The USB dongle is the wireless device that works with those. All PC's with Windows have Bluetooth services, whether or not the PC actually has bluetooth hardware. If you don't see a bluetooth radios icon in the device manager listing, then your PC does not have built in bluetooth networking. The easiest thing to do would be to puchase an external usb bluetooth adapter. I use this one on my HP business desktop PC and it works for what I use it for. https://www.amazon.com/Kinivo-BTD-400-Bluetooth-4-0-USB/dp/B007Q45EF4 Since your PC is a Configured to Order (CTO) model, there are no specs that indicate whether your specific build has it or not. It could have come with built in bluetooth networking on some models. http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-Elite-HPE-100-Desktop-PC-series/4079700/model/412462... The only other suggestion I can offer would be to enter the product number of your PC in the part surfer website at the link below, and see what parts came with your PC.  Sometimes the part surfer will give exact info, and sometimes it will list all possible options. The product number of your PC can be found on the same sticker as the serial number. http://partsurfer.hp.com/search.aspx

I used to run XP on this computer, but Im used to Windows 7 since thats my main computer's OS. So I thought, what the hell. I checked compatibility and it said my wifi card shouldnt have an issue with Windows 7. I installed the OS, booted, and my wifi card was gone from the device manager. So I cant install the driver, since Sweex nor Marvell supplies an installation program. just the inf and sys files, which isnt enough.

I also tried show hidden devices, nothing popped up. legacy driver didnt work either.

the card is indeed working, as I tried in another pc. the pci slots are fine too. its a software related problem.

does anyone have an idea?

Hi Neti,
Is it your Ethernet or Wifi.
And what is it?
There are loads of preloaded drivers in W7.
Go to
Update driver > Browse > Let me pick > UNCHECK show compatible hardware. wait for listing to appear below.
Left hand column is for manufacturer scroll to yours.
Then in the right hand column scroll down to yours
