Mouse/keyboard staggering and cpu running hard at idle

Q: Mouse/keyboard staggering and cpu running hard at idle

Hey guys,
I have been having an issue recently with my mouse/keyboard staggering a lot with significant noise from my computer like something is running.  I checked resources but everything is minimal.  I am running Windows 8.1 Pro.  I have a Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard which I replaced the batteries in the mouse thinking they could be dying, but that didn't work. The Keyboard is a solar charging keyboard and has good battery.
I did notice today, but have not noticed before that when this was happening, the windows maintenance was running.  I stopped it, and it took a while to get the mouse back to normal again.  Don't know if this is a coincidence or not.
My computer has a 4ghz 8 core amd fx processor and 32 gb of ram.  The skipping or staggering is happening randomly, sometimes at idle, sometimes when putting slight load.  But there is no way I do anything that will stress my specs out to cause staggering which leads me to believe that it has to be some type of infection.
Can someone walk me through a process to find out?  I have Avast, Malwarebytes, and Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit running for protection.  I ran Malwarebytes and Avast and didn't find anything, which doesn't surprise me.  I realize that no program is full proof and each have their strengths and weaknesses so I am sure I am still vulnerable somewhere.  I also realize a clean install is probably going to be the best solution, but it is a p-i-t-a to reinstall everything so if I can avoid that, that would be ideal.  Thanks in advance for your help and support.

Preferred Solution: Mouse/keyboard staggering and cpu running hard at idle

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Mouse/keyboard staggering and cpu running hard at idle

Are you running more then one anti-virus scanner in a real-time protection never run more then one anti-virus software in a real-time protection if you do then your network and computer will slow down even your mouse. Also have you try reinstalling the Mouse driver.

My wife's Dell Inspiron Laptop suddenly started locking up when coming out of sleep mode. The mouse moves, but nothing else works including clicking either mouse button or any keys on the keyboard. I have changed the power settings to "Never" and now it does it after about 5 minutes if the computer is idle. As long as I am working on it, then it doesn't lockup.

Dell Inspiron 1545
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU
P8700 @ 2.53 GHz
2.50 GHz , 3.46 GB of RAM
Windows XP Service Pack 3

I have already done the following:

Changed the RAM with another Inspiron 1545.
Changed all Power Settings to "Never"
Run HiJackThis (Nothing pertinent)
Run Spybot, Ad-Aware, CCleaner, & AVG (nothing pertinent)
Not installed any new hardware (other than the RAM after this started happening)

Attempted to Defrag in Safe Mode and it will not get past 1% even after 48 hours!

Thanks for any and all help!

A:Keyboard and Mouse buttons unresponsive after being idle

Have you check device manager - properties - power management tab and allow the device to wake up this computer? Try reinstalling or look for the latest driver on Dell support site for the graphics chipset. Try removing currently used wallpaper and run a diagnostic test utility to check on your hard drive. You could also remove the recently RAM module to check on the difference.

Optical HP mouse and Microsoft keyboard work fine reading a page. Newspapers on line or PDF document off line until I stop using the mouse or keyboard keys to scroll while reading.
I load a full screen document then start to read.By the time I have read about half the page both Mouse and keyboard stop responding until I hit a mouse button.
None of the navigation keys work till mouse button pressed. Scroll wheel does not work till mouse button pressed.
Problem has only been with me for a couple of weeks. No changes have been made and in fact i just did a Recovery in hopes that would solve the problem.
Problem is a pain but beyond that everything else seems alright.

Hey guys,

When using windows my mouse cursor has started lagging as I move it around the screen. By this I mean that if I try and move the cursor in a continuous circle around the screen, rather than it travelling in a smooth arc, it will skip and jump around the screen.

Changing the mouse didn't fix the issue, and I've run AVG, adaware, and a bunch of other anti-malware programs (that I don't have the names of to hand as their on the other computer) and they all said the system was clean in both normal and safe mode. I did notice the ones I run regularly (AVG and adaware) took AGES to run their scans, and while the programs were running the mouse was pretty much unusable, with me having to resort to keyboard commands to shut the programs down once they had finished. The problem persisted in safe mode.

I'm running windows xp sp2
asus a8n-e mobo
athlon 64 3500+ venice
1gb ram
150gb hard drive (with over 20gb free)
geforce 7800gt

The system is over 2 years old now and i've been having trouble with the mobo chipset fan slowing down gradually over the last 6 months or so, with it now stuck at less than 1/3 its normal speed. Despite this, all temps read as normal, although just how accurate the sensors are I have no idea.
SO my question is - what's broken? Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot for your help in advance.

Hibernate is tuned off, screen saver is turned off, power down hard discs never etc.

Sometimes after 5 or 8/9/10 mins, my monitor goes in to standby (I can tell because the orange light comes on instead of green) and I cannot operate the PC? But its ok if I keep using it - no problems then.

Pressing a key doesnt bring back the desktop, ctrl>alt>delete = nothing, press any key nothing, even pressing the sleep key does nothing. Basically nothing brings back the desktop and I have to press the emergence reboot key to make the PC work again.

I dont get it - why does it do this? CPU seems to be ok, its when I leave it with or without screensaver running, I just cant get it back but the PC is still on, fans running, hard drive running (I presume) and the hard drive light is still on but no life from mouse, keyboard and monitor.

Only just re-installed XP too - and i've not mucked about with power settings or anything like that (except turning off hibernate etc to try and resolve this).

Any suggestions would be well appreciated. Thanks

Is this a labtop or desktop?

If you have a desktop, what is the Make/Model of the Monitor?
Check that the Monitor cable is not loose.. Or any issues with the cable pins..

Check Monitor settings to make sure standby is not enabled in the monitor itself ( if option available)
Check System BIOS settings ( Disable Standby)

See: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-and-Recovery/Can-not-install-windows-7-on-new... and read the "accepted answer". Your computer was designed to run Windows 10, and needs some special effort to install your own copy of Windows 7, instead of the factory-installed Windows 10. Note that Microsoft's support for Windows 7 ends in January 2020 -- less than 3 years away.At that time, you will need to install Windows 10.So, it makes sense to install Windows 10 now, rather than doing a file-backup/install/file-restore, followed by reinstalling your applications later, i.e., in January 2020.

One day while using my computer i noticed my mouse stopped working which is plugged into my USB port. After investigating i realized my USB ports were giving power but my computer was not recognizing them. My keyboard still worked since it was plugged in the old Keyboard input however when i went to get an old mouse to plug in the mouse input it still wouldn't recognize it. My Control panel wouldn't open the "Mouse" menu either. After awhile i went back to try my computer and noticed now the Keyboard wont even work. Thinking it was a port issue i took my extra computer and just plugged the hard drive into the extra one and now i have the same problem so I'm pretty sure there's something wrong with my hard drive. I have no idea what to do since i cant log in or anything. Please Help.

I have Windows 7 installed on my new computer, but my firewire audio card and also some software wouldn't work properly with it, so I put my old hard drive with Windows XP installed on it into my new computer.

I can boot up Windows XP from the second hard drive at the bios screen bit, but when it gets to the log in screen, the mouse and keyboard will not respond. I have tried multiple mice and keyboards including the old school style non-USB keyboard. The keyboard works fine to press F12 to get into the boot menu etc but then just stops working completely when XP is loaded. I assume its some kind of driver issue or something like that but I'm pretty useless with computers and I have no idea how I can get my mouse and keyboard to respond in XP

Please if anyone knows how let me know, thanks!!

Hey guys, thanks for running this fantastic forum. I had hoped I would never have to use you, but here I am.

Background: I've had a couple of adware programs before (WinAntiVirus), but uninstalled them and things seemed back to normal. In retrospect, I should have been more thorough. About a week ago, Internet Explorer pop-ups returned in force and my Internet slowed to a crawl, and this time there doesn't seem to be an individual installed program to blame. I'm on Windows XP (always been fully updated).

Also, when I boot up Windows I occasionally get an error saying that windows\system32\services.exe terminated unexpectedly with status code 1073741819 and that the computer will shut down in 1 minute. The computer doesn't actually restart when the timer reaches 0, but it does freeze up, forcing a manual power-off. The computer will usually work again the next time I start it up.

I followed the 5 steps in the "Read before posting" post. Here are the results:

Step 1: None of the programs were in the Add/Remove Programs list. Like I said, I used to have WinAntiVirus but that was probably a month or two ago.

Step 2: Ran Panda ActiveScan, which found... well, it found a lot. See the log below.

Step 3: Installed both Spyware Blaster and IE-Spyad.

Step 4: Windows XP was fully updated. I'm on Service Pack 2.

Step 5: Ran Deckard's System Scanner. main.txt is copied below the Panda log, and extra.txt is attached.

Hello -

Why are your Avast! AntiVirus services disabled? Your machine is unprotected by doing this. Please re-enable the Avast! services you've disabled via MSCONFIG.

Once you've done that....

I see you've run ComboFix in the past. I need you to delete any existing version you might still have, as ComboFix is frequently updated.

If you still encounter the shutdown in 60 seconds message:

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

@shutdown -a
Save this as fix.bat Choose to "Save type as - All Files"
It should look like this:

Each time your machine threatens to shutdown, double click on fix.bat & it shall abort the shutdown procedure. That should ease some of your current difficulties.

Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first. The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery mode. This allows us to help you in the case that your computer has a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log.

If you have any questions along the way, STOP and ask them before proceeding.

I've recently gotten a new wired mouse and I've noticed that if I leave the mouse idle for about a minute it will turn off. When I go to move it again it wont move for about a second before it turns itself back on. I suspect this may be a power saving option but this is a wired mouse so it shouldn't be an issue. Either way it does get annoying and I would like to stop it from turning off.

So far I have tried going into advanced power options and disabled 'USB selective suspend setting' but that didn't seem to work.
I have updated my mouse's driver to the most updated version.

My mouse is a Logitech G100s and I'm using a windows 7 desktop.

Hello, I didn't now where to write this so I'll go here. First of all, I'm quite an advanced user but when it comes to Windows maintenance... Gah Okay, so my problem is quite weird. I have a laptop Dell XPS M1530 with Windows 7 on it (32 bit). It has 2 GB of ram, dual core, nvidia 8600m gt video card, 15'6? monitor. The problem is if my CPU is (are) idle I start noticing some sort of lag in mouse movement and window moving/resizing is really jerky. It feels like fps drops way below than it is with a busy CPU. It happens either with Aero or without it. I've tried several different nvidia drivers (270, 260, 195, etc) and neither fixed the problem. Also installed the newest chipset drivers. It just starts lagging when my laptop is idle (I use 270 version drivers (proprietary) no matter what I do; on Linux such problem does not occur, I know it's not the same but maybe it's relevant). Any ideas and help is appreciated Cheers and have a good day.

I have kind of a weird issue. My computer will crash at random times when playing WoW. When it happens, my computer will kind of hang there, and everything will freeze except i can use my mouse, but about 1 min later i'll BSOD. When I BSOD, my POST hangs at a black screen before the MSI screen, where it says A2 in the bottom right corner, which changes to A3 eventually, then it loads.

When it crashes via my keyboard crashing, i'll randomly be typing (pretend the last key I hit was 'n') it will spam the 'n' button and nothing else, kind of like the drivers crashed. The only thing I can do is log out of windows, and as soon as I hit log out it crashes.

And the most obvious one, when I come back from work and my computer is on i'll sometimes come back to a BSOD, or a black screen that says an error has occurred.

I've attached the SF diagnostic results.

Thanks a lot

There is no usb.inf file in the C:\Windows . It works in Windows 8 machine but not in windows 7. other 2.4 Ghz mice work. The manufacturer says that they don't provide the drivers because the mouse uses generic drivers
Please advise what can be done.

A:2.4 Ghz wireless keyboard mouse driver not found (Penguin mouse)

Did you do a Search of the Windows Folder including subFolders and hidden Files? My Win7Ult has several such files but only 2 that are usb.inf only in subFolders of Windows, others have longer names but most appear to be associated with my AMD CPU/Gigabyte Motherboard setup.

Is there a way to assign the ALT+TAB key combination to a mouse button in the Mouse & Keyboard Center?
I select the "Key Commands"-> "Key Combination" field but I can not find a way to enter a

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Keyboard - AK1L
Mouse - AM1L
Receiver - AR1L

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The fan sounds like a jet engine prepping for takeoff when the computer was sitting idle. So I downloaded Core Temp and it is telling me that the TJ max is 85C and my computer is running at 78-83C at that was when there was nothing going on.
My question is what is going on that is making it run that hot? Also, what should I do to stop it?

Some background: The hard drive is failing on this computer. I just reformatted and re-installed windows to factory settings, so I dont think there would be any viruses, malware, etc. But I am curious why it is running so hot. And now Im seeing the CPU cores are showing usage at 90-100%. All I have open is Firefox, Core Temp, Task managner.

This computer is an HP TouchSmart all in one with Vista Premium. (I know this is Win 7 forums. My other one has 7.) CPU is below, GeForce 9300M GS, hard drive is 500GB ST3500620AS.

A:Computer Running Hot when Idle

These temperatures are way too hot for comfort.Prolonged use of computer at these temperatures will fry your MB.
First of all check your fan and heatsink for accumulated dust and clean them thoroughly.Open Task Manager-Performance Tab and select Resource Monitor.Check which programs are using most of the CPU.Post a screenshot of your Resource Monitor showing CPU usage.

So I have had the computer on at night doing some stuff. About some time into it, the computer bsods (I only notice it in the morning)

I had a similar bsod problem earlier his year and it solved by unninstalling daemon tools which was conflicting, but now BSOD is back and I dont know why

Any more info needed just let me know.

A:BSOD while running idle

SSD's were temperamental when they first came out, but their reliability has improved greatly over the last year or two. There are 2 things that MUST be checked on systems with BSOD's and SSD's:

1) That the SSD firmware is the latest available for the SSD
2) That the storage controller drivers on the motherboard are the most recent. They must date from late 2012 or later. This is ALL controllers, not just the one that the SSD is attached to.

If using Corsair Link2 or Razer GameBooster, please uninstall them as they are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems.

The memory dumps blame your wireless drivers - please update them (I don't expect that this is the actual issue, but it's needed in order to rule it out as a cause.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Normally when at idle my cpu runs at 0% to 3%. I've run all kinds of scans with my AVG and anti malware bytes but nothing ever shows up. I also run ccleaner (fully updated) and it never finds any problems except for the normal registry errors.
Here are things that I think may be an issue: svchost is running a little high at around 19% average. I read somewhere about a virus that disguises itself or attaches itself to the svchost files. I ran through all the steps to check for and remove this possible virus but nothing was found or seems out of place except for the high cpu usage and the svchost cpu usage.

My system:
core 2 quad q6700 overclocked to 3.4 ghz, temps stay at between 45 deg to about 54 deg max.
Asus P5n-D MB
Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit
8gb 800mhz RAM
evga GTX 750Ti 2gb graphics card
Sound blaster Zx sound card
OS and some programs running off a 120 gb ssd.
All games and programs on a 2 tb WD black HDD.
All my drives are connected via PCI-e 2.0 port using a SATA 3 card.
I am not sure if this is important or not but my windows gaming index score is a 7.4.

Please note my set up has been like this for about 7 months and the high cpu usage started about a month ago.

Can someone please help?

the last two BSOD's never made a .dmp file for some reason.... even though the settings are set to make a .dmp file in %systemroot%/minidump i have a couple older ones though. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A:BSOD's at idle and running

Just got another BSOD. No .dmp file this time either This time I was in Netflix (in Chrome) and it was paused. An error message popped up saying silverlight had crashed, and moments later, a BSOD.

Is there anything else I can do for info?

Hey everyone! I just installed Star Wars Battlefront 2 on an Asus Vivotab 8 tablet running Windows 10 32 bit. It has a weird bug where the game will crash unless I have a keyboard plugged in through an otg cable or over bluetooth. Is there any way I could install a driver so it thinks I have a physical keyboard plugged in 24/7?

Also, if this is possible, is there anything similar I could install so it believes I have a mouse plugged in as well? Thanks!

I have a Micronics M6MI that has a very strange behavior, as long as you use the machine its fine, if you leave for a little while and go to try to move the mouse it shuts off.

The power supply is atx and the mouse is PS/2

Any ideas?

A:Computer shuts off if left idle a while and I touch the mouse

What's your Windows OS ?

Sounds like a Power Management related issue.
Go to: Control Panel -> Power
Change all 3 options to "never"
Does the problem persist?

If so, then take a look in the BIOS under Power Management and look for any anomalies.

My keyboard, or maybe the ability to type is lost after idle time, sleep mode. I lose all ability to type into fields and I lose the ability to shutdown, restart my computer by accessing the start menu. I get the following usually non stop action happening in my open fields used for text with the cursor pulsating -------------------------------------- I have to restart by the laptop power button, un hook my 2nd computer screen. Once up and running i can re-hook the screen and start typing. But will loose it once I go idle for more than 10 minutes. Any ideas?
