Controling my fighting robot

Q: Controling my fighting robot

Ok this sounds strange but its a project for school where we take a box of random pc crap and build something out of it. I'm using the fans as wheels for a fighting battle robot I'm making. Are there any programs that can instantly let me control the speeds of the fan (So I can steer) also one that can control all of the fans so I can have an extra one to control a spinning saw blade (actully a sharpend hard disk)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I saw a commercial on TV that just said whoismrrobot.com. When I go on the website it shows a CMD style text asking me if it wants me to know a secret. I select yes and a short video appears. Then some gut named Mr Robot kept writing CMD style messages and then asks for my E-Mail address but I did not want to risk going any further because I fear that this is some sort of hacking method. Anyone have any idea what kind of messed up website this is? Please respond with a reasonable answer.

I'm looking for an application which works as follows:

I give it the address of a webpage, and it opens up each link on the webpage, and then opens up each link in each opened up page, etc... and so on.... until a pre-specified number of levels deep.

So, in some sense I'm looking for a web-browsing robot.

This way, I can sit back and view all the web-pages without having to injure myself by repeatedly clicking on the links.

Can anyone point me to anything like this? (freeware please).

Robot City is an old '95 game. Nevermind why I'm wasting my time with it..

I can load the game just fine and everything works except for a small glitch in the display. When I move the mouse it leaves a large square trail behind it and distorts the screen turning it black.

The help file mentions this and I am running the game in 640x480 and 256 color just as it says I should.

Any ideas?

Here is the section of the help file that mentions it:

7. Video Display Problems
Robot City requires 256-color mode
Robot City is an 8-bit, 256-color application. In order to view
Robot City, you need a video card which supports at least 256
colors in 640x480 resolution. Robot City requires you run in 256
color mode. Other modes will cause colors to appear incorrectly
and may cause streaking or trails on the screen. If you are not
in 256-color mode, a warning dialog will appear when you launch
Robot City telling you to correct the problem, exit and restart

My skype sounds like a robot any time I use it. I have tried donloading it from the website, using the skype video app already on my computer and it still doesnt work. Everything else auditory works fine, video, music, etc. But anytime I try to skype it sounds like a robot is talking, lags and is very annoying. I know others are having this problem too but I can't find a solution. I know internet connection is usually the problem but I have tried it right next to the router and it still doesn't work. I then use the app on my phone and it works fine but its really frustrating to have to do that when I just bought this computer not even a month ago. Please help!

A:Remotely Controling Other Computers

It really depends on how their network and your network are set up. Are any of you behind a hardware firewall such as a router? What operating systems are each of the PC's using?

Windows has some built in software that allow you to control someone elses PC (Netmeeting, Remote Desktop)

There are also plenty of 3rd party software for remotely accessing PC's but more details about the network setup are needed before we can recommend a solutionn.

Hi all....I have Filter Gate on my computer, but it doesn't "cover" Kazaa's web browser. Filter Gate filters out adult content etc. I've tried the filter offered with the Kazaa Lite (which is the one I'm running) but it doesn't work.... on top of that, there are specific web sites that I want to block and it doesn't offer that option (and I'm more concerned about these specific web sites than adult content). Is there any way I can remove the web function (or disable it without compromising the running reliability of Kazaa Lite)?? Or is there a program out there that also monitors the browser in Kazaa??

Please help me! I've looked all over the 'net and I can't find much information on this subject. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places....

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

ok this is my problem, i'm sharing internet with a few buddies. its only a rogers connection, 8mbit line i think. i've been telling them over and over to try their best not to download and they keep doing it and complain that the internet speed sucks. so what i need is a software that control their internet or download speed. if there is any please list them.

thanks in advance,

A:network monitoring/controling

The problem is the software has to be installed on eath of their machines.

You can get a router that has QoS and make web browsing high priority and thus minimize the downtime but software wise theres a couple of options. Something like NetLimiter will do it.

In short theres no easy way to do what your asking with a small soho setup.

Hey, I set up my Windows XP desktop to share folders on my school campus network so that other people on campus can access and download my media. The only problem is on weekends and at peak traffic times during the day, my own internet connection slows down to almost nothing because of all the people accessing my files. I was wondering if there was a way to limit the traffic to my computer when I am using it, and change it when im away from it to maximize the users download speed. im not the versed in networking so anyhelp would be appreciated.

A:Controling incomming connections

Depends on how they're accessing the files. If you're using Windows file sharing, you're wide open to a whole host of issues, and I predict something bad will happen before too long!

I'd setup something like FileZilla, which offers bandwidth limiting, and will also be much safer for the health of your machine.

Currently I have a rather bulky desktop XP PC with a reasonable spec and enough storage for my means. As space is at a premium, I was wondering how difficult it would be to relegate this unit to a cupboard and control it via a laptop? The desktop in question has several programs I may not be able to acquire again and has a sound card used for studio work. I'd considered using something like VNC as a simple controller however in past experiences, there has often been a lag I would like to minimize if possible (can VNC be used to connect to the other PC directly instead of via traditional modem based IP?). My apologies, "server" theory isn't really my area of expertise! Any help would be very much appreciated.

I recently purchased a magicjack to use as a phoneline in the house aside from my cell phone. The problem with it is that you have to have the computer and software running to use the phone. I do not want to see the software running all the time on my main computer so I was hoping to run it on my old laptop instead. Only problem is my old laptop screen is dead. I hooked up the old computer to my tv today and the computer itself works fine and ran magicjack fine but I want to be able to keep the laptop in the basement and be able to control the computer from my main computer so I don't have to buy a monitor just to use magic jack on the old one. I would like to hook the old laptop up to the internet via an ethernet cable (no wireless card) and I currently use my main laptop through the wireless connection. Hello Every One.....

I have the following situation and I am trying to find a solution for it....
I have a network and I am using win2k server with a domain to control it and the main purpose of the network is to allow the domain members to access the internet, I am getting the internet from an ISP in Italy via direct satellite that is a satellite dish on top of the building and then down to the satellite modem (LinkStar) the ISP has assigned me a range of static IP`s in the range and it is obvious they are nonroutable IP`s, now since I am not available at the location all the time and the win2k server needs a very close monitoring since I have there more that 200 domain members, I thought if I can find a way to control and administrate the server from a remote location it would ease up things on me and I avoid any method that required puplic IP and in quest for a way to do that I came a cross Microsoft Netmeeting and I found that its desktop sharing facility is remarkable and meets exactly what I need, in working on netmeeting and through my search in the internet I have found that there are ILS servers on the net and from there I can connect to any other computer running Netmeeting and logged in to the same ILS ,so I setup netmeeting on the win2k server and then run it and logged it to one of the ILS servers on the net like netmeeting.de, now from the remote location I did the same and tried to call the win2k server (from the remote location my internet was fro... Hello, I have a Sony Vaio laptop and recently whenever I use YouTube, Spotify, Netflix, stream or play audio/visual content anywhere the sound freezes and makes a robot noise constantly.

I am a dummy with computers and technical stuff but from what I have read on the web regarding this matter it could have been something to do with drivers, too much stuff on the hard drive, flash and/or java needing updating etc..

I have done all of these things (I think) and it still hasn't done anything! Could someone plleeassee advise me what I need to do to sort this out.

Also, my fan is very hot and sounds like a vacuum cleaner (I have tried cleaning it, I think I need a new fan) but could this be affecting anything?

Thanks all

edit: I use latest internet explorer, and sometimes chrome but it is the same on both of the browsers, and besides it happens with spotify which is downloaded?

A:Audio sounds like a robot on everything, please help!!

It does sound like something having to do with your sound card drivers. I would go into the device manager which is in the system tab of the control panel and completely uninstall the sound card and any other related components; reboot; then let windows hopefully re-detect and reinstall the sound card and its associated drivers. If you need more info on anything just ask.

When I use noise canceling headphones with my computer (dell inspiron 1525 running XP sp3) the volume is way too loud. Even with the volume slider in the taskbar at the lowest possible volume its still too loud.

Is there a more precise way to control the volume level in XP? (such as entering a number value from 1 to 100 to set the volume, etc.)

I would be willing to use 3rd party programs (if they exist).

A:[SOLVED] controling volume level in XP

Go to Control Panel --> Sound and Audio Devices and click on Advanced under Device volume. You should have a bunch of sliders there. Try turning one down at a time to see which one affects your headphones.

i am using windows xp home edition.

thanks for your replies(if any)

A:free software for controling winamp

IrDA is not necessarily compatible with your remote control. Check with programs like LIRC or from some documentation whether your remote actually uses IrDA protocol.
If not, then you have to buy or build a special device first.

Many people say that manually controling the fanspeed helps bring down the GPU temperature and keeps this temperature within range ( 35 degree C idle and 75 degree C full load ). I have played with it for a few days and come to an opposite conclusion.

My card is a radeon HD 4870 X2. And I used Furmark 1.7 to run a couple of tests.

1. If I set the fanspeed manually at 50%, the idle GPU temperature was 43 degree Celsius. When I ran Furmark 's stability test for 5 minutes, the peak temperature was 98 degree and the fanspeed peaks at 100%.( strong rattle).

2. If I leave the fanspeed at automatic, the idle GPU temp was 71 degree Celsius and fanspeed was 27%. When I ran Furmark's stability test for 5 minutes, the peak temperature was 90 degree Celsius and peak fanspeed was 85% ( no signicant rattle ).

My conclusion is leaving the fanspeed at automatic is better because the fanspeed will go up as the load increases ( and temperature ); if you manually set the fanspeed, it will stay put until a threshold temperature at which the fanspeed will hit 100%.

A:Does manually controling the fanspeed help GPU heating?

It is better if you set it manually so low that it allows the card to overheat. If you set it straight to 70-80%, you'd get more consistent and a bit lower temp, but as the cooling is pretty much at the limits of its capabilities anyways, it's not that much beneficial either way.
FWIW, you should be able to run the stability test even for an hour or more without hitting critical temps (which 90+ are). I would bet that if you run it longer, it will still rise at least 2-5 degrees from your current results.

Anyways, back to the automatic vs manual fan speed, I'd say you haven't experimented enough with different fan speeds, just 40-50%, so you haven't found any kind of optimal speed. If you do the manual adjusting wrong, of course it's going to be worse. Manual adjusting doesn't magically increase the cooling performance of the cooler at a set fan speed.

It seems like a question ripped from the back of a cheap sci-fi novel: What happens when the robots are turned against us?
But researchers at the University of Washington think it's finally time to start paying some serious attention to the question of robot security. Not because they think robots are about to go all Terminator on us, but because the robots can already be used to spy on us and vandalize our homes.

Since my modem has been reset, one of my laptops cannot go anymore to google without having this error message:

404. That's an error.

The requested URL /cgi-bin/cgi?req=twz was not found on this server. That's all we know.

It's bizarre, because I never entered "/cgi-bin/cgi?req=twz" in the adress bar. Just: www.google.ca . I can confirm that this website is working on all other computers in the house.

Am I the only one who has this? How to solve this problem?

Thank you very much!

Please don't double post (original thread : http://www.techsupportforum.com/f10/...er-183140.html)

If the program had any installation utility then check add/remove programs to see if there's no related entry first.

Try to delete the folder in safe mode : repeatedly press the F8 key when the computer starts and choose safe mode in the menu that will appear.

Else give unlocker a try :

I have a case where end users log onto the network and by using the proxy numbers they get onto the Internet.

While there is this conventional way of going through the Tools/Internet Options/Connection/LAN settings to disable the proxy numbers,(as these numbers will still be re entered) is there a way to disable all the proxy numbers remotely say using DOS. I was told that can be done but having searched on the Internet with zero success, I believe someone in here can help me do that.

Is there some one in here that can help me out?

I reposted this to the "I'm infected forum". Please disreguard the message below.

I have virus that keeps commenting out entries in the /Windows/System32/drivers/etc/hosts file. As a result, I can't install MacAfee software. I have run HiJackThis and I am posting the log file. Any suggestions on how to remove this virus from this computer and a couple other PCs on my home network would be much appreciated. Also, I saved a back up of my documents before reinstalling Windows 7. Are those files the source of the infection?
