I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Try right clicking the speaker on your taskbar then go to recording devices then go and right click in the big box with little rectangles in side and show disabled devices then if it is there right click it and enable. Hope this helps.

Hey anyone can help me?my compaq presario V500 built-in microphone is not working anymore.
My OS is Windows XP Service Pack 2
I looked at the device manager, and the sm bus controller appeared yellow.
I tried to update the driver but they can't locate the driver.
Does it have something to do with my microphone problem.?
I also have a majicjack device,i'm wondering if it interferes with my built-in microphone..
please help me...

May be or may not be I am not sure?
First, find and install a chipset driver software from the Driver CD that will be provided by the Compaq. If you don't have a Driver CD than needed to download. For SM bus controller which appeared yellow. Driver installation will resolve your issue.

Regarding, Majicjack device, it would not hinder with built - in microphone. However SM bus carries the signal of your microphone in order to executive. If Chipset driver is not installed than Majicjack device also won't work. Have a try, let us know.

Looking for a quick answer, sorry, not for me but a friend of mine.
I've briefly seen their laptop which is a Compaq Presario V6000 widescreen. Above the screen there are two "mic" symbols where the sound comes out of. Also, there are two sockets at the front below the keyboard. One is for headphones and the other presumably for a "mic" input. The confusing thing is that it has the same symbol as for the output speakers mentioned above!
So to use Skype, does this laptop have a built in microphone or not, or is a plug in one required?
I at least know there is no built in webcam so with Skype in mind, what do you suggesy they should buy (and where does it plug in socket wise).
Thanks everyone

Upon starting my laptop, I get a message that the system has detected the storage capacity of the primary internal battery is very low and needs to be replaced. No important programs load and the desktop loads normal brightness until I move the cursor and the brightness fades to very low. I have to admit that yesterday, I accidently spilled about 3 tablespoons of lemonade onto the lower right hand side of the keyboard. Everything seemed fine until about an hour later, when the pages of any internet site seemed to scroll down by themselves and I couldn't control with the "page up button"......kept scrolling down. Then when I went to my Vanguard account screen and tried to type in my user name, with the last 3 digits of 627, what kept appearing was 6267. everytime I tried.
Then on an MSNBC site, I was watching a replay of one of their programs and their video program has it's own volume button.
Everytime I tried to raise the volume, it went down on it's own. It wasn't until this morning that when I turned on the lap top, most of the task bar was empty and the screen would fade. I took the back panels off to look for that "internal battery" but couldnt see it.
Research on the internet keeps directing me to the large detachable battery on the back but this battery has proven to be good.
If I take that battery out and just try using only the power cord, I still get the same bad results mentioned above.
I think I narrowed it down to the "... Read more

After windows update i suddenly noticed that the internal microphone was not working. After reading numerous forums and other online articles i failed to get a solution. After a while i thought of uninstalling the last update i received which is "Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3163018)". As soon as i did this and after restarting my laptop the microphone was working perfectly fine. But again after a day the update automatically installed and the internal microphone problem started again. Pleas help me with a permanent solution as i cant keep on uninstalling this particular update time and again. As this is a security update from windows i am not able to disable the update.Help!Thank you.

I recently reinstalled Win 7 on my HP Probook 4530s, and have encountered a few problems since.
The latest is that the internal microphone does not seem to be functioning at all through any programs that would use it (Skype, sound recorder etc).

It does appear in the audio devices control panel but not in device manager (although I don't know that it should?), and it says its working correctly but obviously this is not so!

Additionally, the sound was behaving erratically as well - it often will not work unless I click the test button on the speaker properties page. If I leave the computer for any length of time I have to repeat this.

I have downloaded the only audio driver that is listed here http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...Id=5060880&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=4058 but this does not seem to have any effect.

Anybody have any ideas?

Do you see it in recording devices in this generic laptop? Is it set to default? You say Windows shows it working so it must be connected.

Check the Mixer/Audio settings whether Mic is turned on.
Depending on the used software it might happen, that it disables the microphone while ending the program (Skype, ICQ etc.)

I just purchased Aspire 5733z, 8 MB Ram, Windows7, 64 Bit Notebook!
I have been setting it up a little each day.
The Built-in MICROPHONE does not work when making phone calls using Yahoo or even magic jack. After the first day of purchase it starting making a high pitch noise and so I turned decip down. I played with it for the next few days and well still no one can hear me on the other end.
Where is the Microphone located and is there something covering it when bought new that I need to remove?
Thanks guys!
P.S. I use a USB hub since I have several items that need to be connected to the PC.

A:Microphone Internal Not working!

To check your internal microphone is working use the windows sound recorder..... start, all programs, accessories, entertainment, sound recorder. Make a recording and check it records and plays back. If this works your internal mic is OK and I would start looking at a Yahoo driver or settings problem instead. From memory, the microphone is a small hole on the lid adjacent to the webcam.

Our Compaq Presario v4000US is a decent computer we have had for a while. But all of a sudden the Keyboard stopped working. We don't know why or how. No water or liquid has come in contact with it. We replaced the Keyboard and still nothing working. If you press as many keys as you can occasionally it would type 'H', a comma, or g. Maybe even just typing the same of those three repeatedly. What would cause this to happen? We have reinstalled windows and tried it in safe mode but no dice. the caps lock light and num lock light dont come on. We have plugged in a usb keyboard and that worked for a while. with the Caps and NUM lights working on the laptop itself if pressed from the USB keyboard. But, now the USB keyboard acts funny. When pressing L or M it closes windows or opens my computer. anyone have any ideas?

A:Compaq Presario V4000 Keyboard not working

Has the keyboard even been plugged in or unplugged while the machine was running?

Can you disable the PS/2 keyboard (right-click it in Device Manager and disable) and/or unplug it and try just the USB keyboard?

Can you enter BIOS setup to see if "leagacy" USB is enabled (or it might actually say "USB keyboard") and check that the date/time is correct?

Hi there.

I wonder if anyone can help me. I have a Compaq pressario SR1629UK, there was a huge problem and I need to do a destructive recovery however they PC came with no disks. I have tried an F10 recovery but even tho I repeatedly press F10 the pc starts as normal. Is there any other way I can do a recovery or access the recovery with out disks?

A:Compaq Presario...F10 Recovery Not Working and No Disks

Hello ladyrazzor, welcome to Bleeping Computer.

Try this instead:
Go to your Start menu.
Under Programs or All Programs, look for PC Help and Tools. (or something similar)
Under Help and Tools, if you see it, click on Compaq System Recovery.
You will be asked if you really want to start system recovery, click Yes.

If asked to reboot, do so.
I've never used this method to do a recovery on my Compaq-the only thing I know is the option is there under the Start Menu.

If that doesn't work, you can try something else. Also in Help and Tools, you may see an option to make recovery disks.
You'll need a bunch of blank cd's to do this, then you can use them to do your recovery.

Good luck, let us know what happens.

Hi All,
I have a 2 y.o. Compaq Presario C700 laptop that came with Vista pre-installed. I did a format straight away to change it to windows XP and spent a fiddly couple of days getting all the drivers to work. They generally all work well, and I am currently trying to install a modded touchpad driver, but the problem is there isn't any recognition of my touchpad in the device manager or any synaptics drivers in the add/remove programs, but the touchpad still works. I go into mouse settings and look at the 'hardware' tab and it just says i have a ps/2 mouse that's plugged in and no touchpad.
Does anyone know how I can get the touchpad to show up in the device manager? I've gone into the BIOS at startup but I can't find any mouse or touchpad settings there either.

Thanks Alot.

A:No touchpad recognition on my Compaq Presario, but it's working?

Hello there! I have been having issues with my internal microphone where it makes a loud noise on the other side  when I'm talking on skype. It has been like that since I got my computer and I had to buy an external one and then the issue was gone. External ones tend to break over time so I want to get the issue with the internal one fixed. I found an old thread ( http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Audio/internal-microphone-not-working-properly/m-p/2158281#M30... ) In which the user had the same problem and he fixed the issue with the document he was provided with. Trying to open the link inside the thread now does not lead me to a document with steps that explain how to fix it, so i was wondering if anyone here knew where to find the same document or how to fix the issue.

Hello, I have a Lenovo B40-80.  The internal microphone is not working.  I originally bought the laptop with Windows 7 in 2015.  I upgraded to Windows 10 (probably the Anniversary update??) shortly after purchasing the laptop.  I have never attempted to use the internal microphone or webcam until yesterday.  Neither the webcam or the internal mic was working.  I was successfully able to fix the driver for the webcam and now I can record video and pictures, but it cannot record audio.  I have tried updating the driver for the microphone without success.  Yes, the microphone is set as default and it is enabled.  There is no external mic plugged in.  Please help.

The internal microphone on my Elitebook x360 doesn't work, it won't record.  I?ve had it a couple of months but only got the chance to start using it in the last two weeks.  It seems that there have been others with similar issues, so instead of start with the basics, here's what I?ve tried so far. In the 'Sound > Recording' tab (right click speaker in task bar) the internal microphone (Conextant ISST) is enabled and default (always was).  The green bars do not light up if talking into the microphone, but one or two bars will appear when I tap on the display. Internal microphone properties > Levels: microphone array 100%, microphone boost +36dB (max). I have tried other levels also.  The microphone does not mute by itself, as I read that others have experienced. Internal microphone properties > Advanced: have tried using lower default formats, exclusive mode: on and off, signal enhancements: on and off. In device manager, audio inputs and outputs: I have updated and then uninstalled and reinstalled the Internal microphone (Conextant ISST Audio) driver. In device manager, sound, video and game controllers: I have uninstalled, downloaded and installed new drivers for Conextant ISST Audio and Intel(R) Display Audio. The mic mute button on the keyboard (F8) is not on. In command prompt, as administrator, I have killed the svchost task in the name of the computer and then run Malwarebytes - did not fix anyth... Hello First off, I apologize if this isn't considered to be in the correct forum or not. I wasn't too sure, because I'm not exactly sure what the problem is.

My internal microphone currently is not working. I receive sound perfectly fine from everything, but my internal microphone will not record it. I have spoken into it, created loud noises, and have done whatever else I can, and it still does not pick anything up. My settings are enabled, yes. I've been to onto the HP site and have gone through step-by-step instructions over various solutions that could fix this, but none of it seemed to have worked.

I've tried a numerous amount of times to use the sound recorder and play it back, and when I do the sound does not show up.

Has anyone had this problem before? If so, how did they fix it? Or does anyone know maybe what it could be and any other possible solutions available?

Check both the Speaker volume Microphone settings and the Microphone settings themself as there are a few settings found in each one that affect recording...Have you also contacted Compaq directly about this as they are more equipped to handle support requests for there hardware? Did not record sound, doesnt work at all (including with google talk, skype).

Here's are the related info. Do asked for more info if not sufficient.

A:Internal microphone failure (not working)

Usually, the Stereo Mix is set as the default recording device. Then any device, mic, or line in, can be used. Also with Stereo Mix set you can record audio from the internet (what you hear on the speakers). Setting to Mic only limits what you can record.

Also, in Microphone properties, do you have the "Levels" set for the mic? If the level is set to zero you would not hear anything.

A:internal microphone not working properly

Try the steps listed in this document from HP. It has the most common solutions and steps to isolate the issue. It is possibly a hardware issue since an external microphone works without any issue, but let me know what happens with each step of the document as that will help determine if it is a hardware issue or not. Also, let me know the results of the steps in the Using Windows Sound Recorder to test the microphone section. If this recorded file also exhibits the same behavior, then it is definitely not any third party software causing the issue.

Try the good Ram chip in the dimm slot you suspect of being bad and then boot up, if it does boot then you know the chip you have been trying to use is bad. If the computer beeps you know the slot is bad.

I sometimes make overviews in virtual machines and technology tutorials on my Mac for YouTube and other video sites, I bought a Dell PP28L laptop yesterday with Windows 7.

There is an internal microphone (2 are listed) but neither seem to detect any audio, the volume setting is on 100, and I have tested both of the listed, but neither work.

I want to do a tutorial on installing Movie Maker 6.0 (Vista version) on Windows 7 easily, but can't do it, because I need to use my voice in the video, of course.

Would like some assistance please, thanks ^^

Also, what is listed in the Device Manager, Sounds section? Post a screenshot.

I recently upgraded my HP laptop to Windows 10 but discovered the internal microphone no longer worked after trying a video call on Skype. I have researched the problem thoroughly on the web and watched all the help videos I can find, but to no avail. I have tried updating the drivers from Realtek, uninstalling the microphone in devices and restarting my laptop, but nothing has worked. Before I updated Windows, the microphone worked fine. The 'intergrated microphone array' that I've seen discused on forums for this problem does not show up as in option in audio recoring devices. It doesn't seem to be recognised by my laptop at all in audio settings. In 'playback' the only device is Realtek speakers and in 'recording' I have set Realtek microphone as the default device but the internal microphone still does not pick up my voice as it used to. When I have troubleshooted the issue, I am told that my microphone is not plugged in, but this shoudn't be the case as I have never used an external microphone with this laptop. It seems that due to the Windows 10 update, my laptop no longer recognises the internal microphone. Does this mean I will have to buy an external microphone, or is there another way of fixing this problem? Any help with this issue would be much appreciated.

Okay. To start...I'm 17 and computers seem to hate me. I don't know very much about them, short of the imaging programs I use.

Now recently, my microphone stopped working.
The compaq has a Microphone built into the Monitor, and it worked perfectly until I noticed one day the sound wasn't working. I find that the cord to the speaker and the cord to the Mircophone had been plugged into the wrong jacks. The Mircophone got put in "Line out" and the speakers were in "Line in"...I think that's it.

Anyhow, I switched them,a nd the speakers worked again, but the Microphone doesn't seem to pick up anything anymore!!!

Is it a short (I'm hoping not) or something I can fix, like a driver error?

I really need help to get this working again.

The microphone won't work (Or at least it's extremely unresponsive that if you scream into the mic port it might flicker.) I've read other forums and lots of people are having this problem but none of the solutions given are yet to work. I've tried them all. People seem to think it's a problem with the Bang & Olufsen driver. Any help welcome!

I've had this Toshiba Satellite L500 for over a year and the internal mic has always worked great. I often use Skype on this machine and the mic always works fine. The other day my friend added Skype to his iPhone and we wanted to see if it worked, but because we were in the same room, there was some feedback (not much, but a little), so we hung up. Half an hour later, I tried to use Skype to call a friend back home, and the mic wasn't working. It hasn't worked since.

I uninstalled Skype and re-installed all of the audio drivers. I have also tried adjusting all of the Sound settings in Control Panel (mic volume, boost, default device, etc.). I also tried using an external mic, which worked fine, and I was able to switch back and forth between the external and the internal, but only the external picked anything up. When I use Sound Recorder with the internal mic, all that's recorded is a quiet, garbled, electronic noise which fades to silence within a few seconds (see .rar attachment). EDIT: I found that this noise was due to using Microphone Boost. If I turn the boost off, nothing at all is recorded.

Device Manager says the internal mic is working fine. Is there anything else I can do? Is there some kind of software that I can run to test if the microphone is working properly or is broken? I am running Windows Vista 64-bit.

A:Solved: Toshiba internal microphone suddenly not working

So under "Playback Devices" I turned the microphone playback volume up so I could hear through the speakers if anything was being picked up. At one point I close the lid of my laptop and heard some crackling. Turns out if I move the lid up and down, the microphone crackles, so I'm guessing there's a loose connection in there somewhere. It's too bad because it's not an old machine, and I still have no idea why it stopped working so suddenly.

Just thought I would update you all and suggest a possible troubleshooting method for those of you in the same situation. Of course, be careful of using microphone playback without headphones, since it can lead to feedback which can damage your audio components.

I own a laptop (Presario CQ56) and have been using Skype constantly for about a year with its internal microphone without an issue. After obtaining an automatic Windows 7 update a couple of days ago, my internal microphone stopped working. The microphone is still detected, enabled, but isn't picking up any input whatsoever. However, there is low static, but it's very constant, and isn't changed by input whatsoever. Here are the things I've tried:

-System Restore to before the update, then disabling automatic updates so I no longer have it
-Running the computer's find and fix audio recording software which claimed that there was no issue
-Uninstalling and reinstalling drivers without restart (with driver updates automatically through the computer's find and fix audio recording problems)
-Uninstalling and reinstalling drivers with restart (with driver updates automatically through the computer's find and fix audio recording problems)
-Uninstalling and reinstalling drivers with restart (through the official site's driver updates)

I do not own an external microphone, and I am hoping that I don't have to get one. That being said, that also means that I can't be entirely sure whether it's software or hardware based.

I hope that one of you can help me. I've done a lot of internet scouring and Google-ing and have run out of things to try; I've been at it for about 5 hours so far.

Thank you in advance.

A:Internal Microphone Suddenly Not Working After Windows Update

I would do a system restore to before it did the updates and see if it resolves the issue. Click start, programs, accessories, system tools, then system restore. Choose the date before the problem started happening and let it restore. See if the mic works after that. If it asks to do updates again and by chance you know what one caused the problem; then just dont download it. And to solve that from happening i would change the windows update settings to only download but let me choose when to install. EDIT: nevermind the system restore I just saw you already did that. In the end though i would just completely uninstall the device itself; remove it from device manager completely; and let windows hopefully re-detect it correctly.

Win7 Professional 64Bit German

Helllo Forum,
The problem sounds simple but its tricky. The internal microfone is not working.
I cannot find any related entry in the deivce manager.

Is there a maybe simple way to activate the Mikro like FN+X?
I already tried the standards such as "Start+"Mikro", rightclick on the speaker symbol...

Is there somebody who had and solved the same problem?

Iam running low on ideas...

A:Satellite Pro P300 PSPCDE - internal microphone is not working

How did you test the internal microphone?

Usually the internal mic belongs to the internal webcam. So did you test this in connection with the internal webcam?
The preinstalled webcam software allows you to create movies and pictures. The movie can be recorded with the sound and the internal mic is used for that?

Furthermore the internal mic should be listed in control panel -> sound -> recording tab
If it?s not visible there, then you should click right and should check the options; show hidden device, show disabled devices. Then you could enable the internal mic and could make this as default device.

Hi hope someone can help. New L460 (20FV) all working well, all updates done via Lenovo and I went this morning to use the webcam and mic for the first time. The mic is not picking up sound, suffice to say I have tried every fix possible via Lenovo or MS forums to no avail over the last 5 hours. Too many to list so could you guys please throw every fix you know at me in the hope that I have not tried one. I have tried diagnostics also via Lenovo and nothing is showing as wrong. As I said all updates, drivers etc installed correctly via Lenovo and the system is running Win10. I also tried reinstalling the system to no avail. Fingers crossed. scotty66
