Success Story with getting switchable graphics to work on Windows 10 with an Inspiron 15r se / Inspiron 7520

Q: Success Story with getting switchable graphics to work on Windows 10 with an Inspiron 15r se / Inspiron 7520

For background, some Dell laptops have a feature where they use a low-powered intel graphics card when undemanding applications are running, but they switch to a high-power, high-wattage graphics card (AMD Radeon series) when demanding games are running. With the AMD/Intel version of this, it is a very fragile configuration and you can't download any old version of the drivers and expect them to work. Dell engineers have to specificaly craft a version of the intell driver installers that is compatible with this configuration.
Automatic driver/windows updates and OS changes can trounce on this delicate configuration and you're at the mercy of the Dell support people about when you'll get an updated driver. If you just use the vanilla Intel video drivers, they won't respect the AMD wish to take control of graphics and the AMD video card will sit unused in your laptop.
There are three parts to getting Windows to use your preferred driver for the hardware, one is removing any installed software that provides drivers. This is done by uninstalling all software that puts drivers on the hard drive. The second step is to delete any drivers that windows is pegged against because Windows will not allow drivers it is using to be fully uninstalled. This is done by putting Windows into "safe mode" where it does not use most drivers and then uninstalling and deleting the driver files themselves. the final step is installing your preferred drivers, both the AMD and Intel video drivers in this case.
Here's how I got AMD/Intel switchable graphics to work in Windows 10:

I went to the dell drivers site with Internet Explorer (not Microsoft Edge/Google Chrome/etc.) and used the system detect feature to recognize my laptop. I then downloaded the Intel and AMD video drivers for 64-bit Windows 10
I uninstalled all AMD and Intel video drivers via the add/remove programs app in the Windows control panel.
You can search for "Remove programs" in the search box on the windows bar to get to the applet in Windows 10.
There are a lot of Intel drivers for things like network adapters, be sure to only uninstall drivers for video cards.

I booted into Windows 10 safe mode. Search for instructions on the internet for how to get into safe mode.
I opened the control panel and went to the device manager to delete the video drivers left on the system.
I think currently-used driver files are not fully uninstalled when you uninstall driver software in the normal way, you have to do more.
Open the device manager (one way is windows key + 'x')
Open display adapters, there should be one for intel and one for amd.
Right click each display adapter and choose uninstall. Then click on the delete driver option checkbox and delete the drivers

After rebooting, verify that the display adapters in the device manager are very generic, they probably won't say intel or amd.
Install the intel device driver software you downloaded from dell
Install the amd device driver software you downloaded from dell
You should now see the "Configure switchable graphics" option if you right-click the desktop.
Try running a game that demands a little of the graphics card
Open the "Configure switchable graphics" app and verify that it found the game you just ran and that it set it for "high performance"

You should probably be on A/C power during all of this. I think I've heard that switchable graphics can change if on battery power, not sure.
Skyrim worked fine after doing this, and l4d2's intros ran very smoothly (they're incredibly choppy when they run on the intel graphics), but the app itself crashed without warning to the desktop just as it finished loading a single-player campaign for me. I suspect that this is probably more a windows 10 thing than an graphics thing and I hope reinstalling the game will fix it.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Well, my case is very simple. I just install the newest driver from Intel.com and amd.com, and everything works. I just wish that Dell can update the Audio driver for Conexant Audio Device.

With the AMD 7730m on the Dell Inspiron 15r 7520, If I had known their would be compatibility issues with application being locked, I would have never bought this Laptop. Yes, it is an old laptop by now, as it was manufactured in 2012, but It is keeping me from ever buying a Dell Laptop with AMD graphics of any sort in it. Like Lenovo with the super-fish issue, it is on my <profane> list to never buy. I'm guessing that it is AMD's fault for bad support or it could be as much Dell's fault because the hardware is in their laptops.

Hi everyone,
I know this issue is discussed here many times. I ve tried all of the solution tips but i was not successful. I am able to run ati catalyst and switchable graphics options. But when i run any application i get only intel HD graphics to choose from. ATI is not detected at all. I do not want to switch back to Windows 8 instead of 8.1 for now. I would be very happy if someone could help me ...

Thanks a lot. Merry x-mas :)

A:Inspiron 15R 5537 switchable graphics issue

Hello Dell support, I'd like to resurrect this thread... I've installed a recent Catalyst driver that has real-time GPU watch capability and while I did set games for big performance use, I still get the Intel GPU shown on GPU watch, and - needless to say, poor performance with the games.
Win 8 64bit, AMD Catalyst 14.4 + driver version 14.100, Inspiron 15r with Radeon 8850/9r 265M (newer driver shows the latter).
If you don't have an answer, then please give it to us straight: should I buy a new machine? Install Win 8.1 because it does not use this *** driver? What should we do? I've searched the internet for answers but found none and no solution seems to be working so far.

Hi, I have a DELL Inspiron 5520 with 2 Graphics Cards:

ATI Radeon 7670M & Intel HD 4000

I've installed the drivers required and unfortunately the switchable graphics section in "Catalyst Control Manager" doesn't have an option to manually change the graphics card. It has the option to choose what graphics card a program should use, but that never works. I know that if I find a modded BIOS like in this thread:

Acer Laptop: Switchable Graphics using i7 & AMD Radeon

Then it will work for me, but my problem is that I don't know if that BIOS is specifically for ACER laptops or I can use it on my DELL. If not, I'd appreciate it if someone came up with a BIOS for DELL. Also, I'd like to know what that BIOS has that the original one didn't, please explain. For example, removing whitelist, etc ...

Hi Forum,
Does anyone else have problems getting switchable graphics to work when a laptop is docked?
Is there a solution to this problem, or some way to force the use of the Nvidia GPU when on power and/or docked?
I have a Inspiron 15 7537 with the Nvidia GeForce GT 750M, Windows 10 Pro, which I use in conjunction with the Dell D3000 Dock. I've have all the latest Intel Graphics, Nvidia and DisplayLink drivers loaded, I have updated or re-installed these in recent days.
When attached to the Dock the Nvidia GPU status remains "Inactive" based on the Nvidia GPU Activity tray icon, regardless of what applications launch. Applications that require accelerated graphics like AutoCAD Fusion report they are using the incompatible Intel GPU.
When disconnected from the Dock applications requiring accelerated graphics, like AutoCAD Fusion, make use of the Nvidia GPU when launched and the status changes to "Active". AutoCAD Fusion reports it is using the Nvidia GPU.
Given the switchable graphics work when off the dock I assume I have the Nvidia Control Panel configured correctly.

I can't get the graphics to switch to use the AMD dedicated card when 3D applications are being run. This has been confirmed by disabling the AMD card in device manager and seeing no difference from when it's enabled. It's also been confirmed by using utilities like HWMonitor that show no activity on the AMD card when running demanding 3D apps. Both cards exist in device manager

What I've tried

Installed the latest drivers from ATI, switchable graphics options are there but they don't switch
Removed both drivers in safe mode and allowed Windows to install the default ones. Using this method shows not switchable graphics options and it never worked.
Removed both drivers and installed the ATI driver from the Dell driver page (There's not one for Intel HD 4000). Switchable graphics option is there, but does not switch.
I've checked that Catalyst is setup correctly with the correct performance and power plans, to no avail. I've even tried the options to force high performance and they don't work.
I've tried solutions for my laptop and related hardware, to no avail:

My laptop is Dell Inspiron 15R - 7520 (Mid 2010)
After upgrading to Windows 10 and do a clean install after that, I let my laptop update all drivers from Windows Update. Then I go to Dell support page to download any missing driver. Finally, there is no unregconized driver in Device Manager.

However, "Hey Cortana" feature is not working with the microphone. (I have turned on Hey Cortana in Cortana Settings). The microphone still works well with Skype. It also works well if I click the microphone icon next to "Ask me anything" in Cortana textbox.

Anyone knows how to make "Hey Cortana" works? Is it because of the Conexant driver is Windows 8.1 version, not Windows 10?

A:Dell Inspiron 15R - 7520: Hey Cortana does not work

I have the same problem, except that it doesn`t work for me when I click the microphone icon in the Cortana textbox. It seems to listen for a second, but then it jumps to the suggestions like I didn`t say anything. I have the audio drivers for Windows 10 from the Dell support page. My voice works fine on Skype and Voice Recorder, though.

Please let us know if there is any progress.

Good evening everybody,
After quite some unsucessful researches, I decided to finally post my question to make it clear...
I have a Dell INSPIRON 7520 which came with windows 8 inside (so that is what we call an OEM version, right ?) It has been given to me back in the days in France but now i live in Canada.
I would like to do a clean the drive and install Windows 8.1 right from the start since I found my system quite slow after doing a reset with the option given by the system itself, and after all the endless windows updates to make it to 8.1 ...
So, is there someone around here who can tell me the options I have to do that ? Can I ask Dell for a win8.1 disk ?
Thanks a lot !

Hi fellow Dell users,
Yet another laptop overheating problem and I suppose it is because the fan doesn't seem to blow...
I updated the BIOS to the last version and during the system diagnostic (F12 at boot) the fan was blowing quite normally (up to 4500rpm if I remember well)...
Moreover, I opened and clean the system from all the dust a few months ago but I didn't change any thermal compoung of any kind though...
Any hint folks ? Should a change thermal paste or something ?
Thx a lot for your help !

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1. I attempted to reset my computer, so that I had a fresh install of Windows 10. Long story short, my computer ended up in an endless reboot sequence followed by the error: INACCESSABLE_BOOT_DEVICE. After hours of searching online and troubleshooting (I am not the most technologically savvy person, mind you) I gave up and decided to call Dell tech support. Dell tech support did some very basic troubleshooting, then gave me a re-installation disk of Windows 8 and kicked me to the curb with no further support (unless I paid a 'low' one-time free of $129.99 ). I now have the installation CD, but fixing my PC is not that simple. I am attempting to re-install Windows 8, but I have a number of partitions and for all of them I get the message "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style" or something similar. I have read a few other people on these forums with the same computer that have eluded to how much of a headache having an SSD and HDD in the same computer along with all of these partitions is. I don't know what to do next to get my computer to work. I appreciate any help I can get from the community. Thank you

A:Inspiron 15R SE 7520 Windows 8 Reinstallation

If my previous post isn't clear enough - I can't even get into my OS. When I try to use the reset/refresh utility it says my the hardrive my operating system is on is locked or the partition needed is missing. I am trying to reinstall windows using the setup utility and then clicking through to the custom segment. Then it pops up with various partitions and asks me where I want it installed. It won't let me install it on any partition. Do I need a specific driver or something? I have tried downloading drivers from Dell and putting them on a USB, but I can't figure out how to get them installed also. I am just shooting in the dark. Thank you

The Inspiron 7520 is not tested by Dell for Win 10 Creators Update and hence could be the reason you are unable to install the AMD drivers. Kindly review the article here - http://dell.to/2qjc6qe
Kindly try installing the drivers from the vendor site - http://bit.ly/1KQ8xMC - and check if it works.

Hello everyone,

I bought a new dell 15R SE 7520 laptop yesterday with the following configuration:

Processor : Intel Core? i7-3632QM Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.20 GHz)
Memory : 8192MB (2X4096) 1600MHZ DDR3
Graphics : 2GB AMD RADEON HD 7730M
Operating System : Windows 8 64bit Single Language

I have my 1TB Hard disk (DISK 0) partitioned as image below:

Also the 32GB SSD (DISK 1) is shown in the above picture as the 8GB disk assigned for the hibernation and the remaining assigned for the cache purpose.

I believe that the first partition called EFI system partition is the one which includes all the dell startup options and diagnostics (F2 button at the startup). The large one of 981 GB is my only accessible partition which contains the operating system and this is obvious for everyone here for sure. The last one of 11.96 is the recovery partition which I don't need it as DELL backup and recovery software is a crap and is not working which is a common issue and they haven't solved it yet so I decided to do all my backup and recovery manually as I used to.

I will remove the operating system which is installed but dell and I will install mine so I need to make sure that I do everything in the right way because this is the first time I deal with any computer contains an SSD disk for cache purpose and honestly I don't know how is those SSD disks work.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520 with A11 version of BIOS, latest from dell.com. I decided to reinstall Windows 10 from USB stick which is formatted to FAT32 and is bootable. The issue is that I am unable to choose USB boot from the menu when pressing F12. I tried under both UEFI secure: ON and Legacy boot, but it does not want to boot windows at all. When the usb stick is plugged in it stalls at the dell logo. When it is not it normally runs my already installed windows 10. Under UEFI boot settings there is only 1 option - the windows itself. Under legacy boot options theres only HDD and Network (when switched to legacy boot option). I have both tried Microsoft Media Creation tool and Rufus to create the bootable flash. It is the same every time - stuck at DELL logo screen and unable to boot the installation. Please help.

A:Unable to boot Windows 10 from USB flash on Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520

You might try another USB port.  The drive has to be available to the system during the initial boot, prior to the Bios.  If it is on a port which isn't being started during boot, it will not be seen.
Just in case, it does take a 64 bit Win 10 version to use UEFI.
Where did you get the .iso file you are using?

There is no dedicated Windows 8 Driver for the ATI Mobility X300/X600/X1300/X1400 graphics cards but I have documented that the Windows Vista Driver R153383.exe will install and work reliably in Microsoft Windows8.
The steps for installation are listed below:

Download the R153383.exe drvier from: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails?driverId=R153383 and extract the compressed files, then cancel the automatic installation of the driver (It crashed out on me when I ran the install)
From The Style UI interface, move the mouse pointer to the lower left corner, and Right Click, select Device Manager from the pop-up menu.
Click the arrow next to Display Adapter, Microsoft Basic Display should be listed.
Right Click the Microsoft Basic Display and click Update Driver, then select Browse My Computer ...., then Click Let Me Pick From a List ....
Click the HAVE DISK Button in the Install from Disk Window, browse to the C:\Dell\Drivers\R153383\Packages\Driver\Display\LH_INF folder and click CL_45540.inf then Click Open and OK to install the driver.

I have completed this process on both an Inspiron E1505/6400 and Inspiron 6000 and both systems are working fine, even power management seems to function well.

Can you get a multiple display with a projector? I was able to get the ATI Mobility x300 as the display adapter, but I can only get one display at a time. With XP, I could see my laptop screen duplicated on a projector and I would like to be able to do the same under Windows 8.
When I check the display with the Control Panel, it allows for only one display and the monitor is a generic PnP monitor and the adapter is the Microsoft Basic Display driver.
I didn't use the method that you suggested to get the X300 adapter.
Any suggestions?

A:Switchable Graphics on Windows 10 not work properly

Did this machine come with Win10 preinstalled? That page you linked to is the correct page for the language Slovak for your machine. Have you checked your drivers in Control Panel--> Device Manager to confirm they are the HP version, not some version that Win10 installed? Asking because Win10 AUTOMATICALLY updates drivers, without your knowledge, and without your permission.  It's very possible that Win10 replaced the HP-version drivers with MS-version drivers.  Folks on the Windows 10 forums have reported lots of instances where their machines used to work OK, then suddenly, they started having display problems -- and in ALL instances, it was because MS replaced their working drivers with others automatically downloaded from MS.  They fixed their problems by rolling back to the older, working, drivers and then disabling Driver Updates from MS.

Can you POST if you remove the hard drive? That would help to determine if it is the hard drive initialization that is causing issues. As you said: not likely, but worth investigating.

When I install the up to date driver for the AMD, after reboot it blue screens my laptop and I have to do a system restore back to the Basic Display Adapter driver.
I have tried every single guide I could find and many different ways of uninstalling/installing both the Intel HD Graphics and the AMD.
I took the laptop to a local shop and he said he too couldn't get it to install and seems like the solder around the GPU may have fractured, the only fix being a Re-Flow?!?
I've looked up Re-Flowing and I would give it a try. My only worry is baking the whole board and turning the laptop into a brick.
I can currently play a small number of my games with only the Intel HD but I missing my other games that require the AMD.

Hi JIM912,
The 7520 supports a maximum of 8GB memory.
You could however, replace the HDD with SSD.
Compatible SSD's for your system model from Crucial - http://bit.ly/2k7qZLF
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.

As the title says, I have an Inspiron 7520 which is not using its AMD GPU and instead relying solely on the Intel Graphics HD 4000. I realized this when I was trying to do some work in Unreal Engine 4. I am running Windows 7, 64 Bit.

Catalyst Control Center isn't opening. When I try I receive two messages
"No AMD graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning properly. Please install the AMD driver appropriate for you AMD hardware."

"AMD Catalyst Control Center cannot be started. There are currently no settings that can be configured using AMD Catalyst Control Center. "
I've uninstalled and reinstalled all of the drivers multiple times. I've tried using the driver available on AMD's website as well as the one available on Dell's website. No such luck. When I install the AMD driver both my AMD GPU and Intel 4000 stop functioning properly according to Device Manager. When both cards are reportedly functioning properly and I disable Intel 4000, my performance tanks and GPU testing programs do not recognize any card. Further, I see no "Switchable Graphics" options anywhere.

Please help, this is driving me insane and I am at my wits end.

A:Inspiron 7520 not using AMD Radeon HD 7730M GPU

Hybrid video can be a pain to get working correctly. I am typing this on a laptop with intel/nvidia video and it was difficult to get to work correctly; especially since it now uses linux.

First of all, have you done a recovery using the recovery partition? That should have the correct drivers config correctly to work.

Next you MUST use the drivers from the support page for your laptop; using any other driver will almost guarantee that the video will not work correctly.

Did you format and clean install windows by chance?

I found the BIOS update for my Inspiron 15R SE 7520 on these pages.

I am using Windows 8.1 (orignally system was preloaded with Win 8) which is causing a few small problems like the touchpad notification light (enable or disable light-small orange LED) is not working, airplane mode has multiple entries like when Fn+F2 is pressed, airplane mode is enabled but system shows it as disabled. So does these problems is solved in this BIOS?
Is it safe to update to A11 or is this some kind of beta BIOS?
Please also may I know the overall issues fixed in this BIOS update?
Thank you.

A:Bios A11 update for Inspiron 7520.

I don't mean to hijack your post, but I've been struggling with this laptop and its capabilities."mainly dealing with the ATI graphics".
I came across another post, that directed me to your question."Google"
I also found the bios A11 on the dell website, but when i look up or enter in my tag, it only shows the A10 bios update.-Is the A11 bios, not recommended? Why do you think its no longer available when you pick or enter service tag?
I am wondering if you happen to have used the A11? Did you notice any difference? I notice it says
(((Enhanced ATI VBIOS for new Samsung VRAM.))))
Or maybe anybody reading this, has had the chance to use the bios A11?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I've googled and read a lot of forum posts about this topic but I still can't figure it out.

I have a new Dell Inspiron 7520 and I want to use the Stereo Mix feature so I can record audio coming out of my Conexant SmartAudio HD soundcard. I right click on the speaker icon in the system tray, click Recording devices and then right click the white space to Show Disabled and Show Disconnected Devices however still Stereo Mix won't show up.

I have installed Audacity but Stereo Mix does not show up under the Input or Output devices there either.

I've tried downloading the latest Conexant Driver from the Dell Drivers webpage and also tried installing the latest RealTek Driver but no luck with either. Some say StereoMix may not be available at the hardware level but I'm not sure.

From another forum I tried the following with the Conexant driver but either I wasn't doing it right or it didn't work either...

I opened the driver .inf file, it was called oem2.inf and these three lines were commented (they each had a semi-colon before them). I uncommented the lines:

I then went into device manager and re-installed the Conexant driver by browsing to the location of the .inf file I just edited (by removing the semi-colon comments). But I then got the error message: "W... Read more

A:Can't see Stereo Mix on Dell Inspiron 7520

The conexant driver is the correct one, the RealTek is different hardware and won't install.

Your System details shows "High Definition Audio Device". That usually indicates the basic function Windows installed sound driver, not the Conexant driver??

Here is the Conexant driver from the Dell Downloads: Driver Details | Dell United States

I used to do a lot of support on the Dell Community (users forum). In just about every case the Dell supplied sound drivers were the only ones that worked correctly. Non-Dell in many cases either will not install or do not work properly.

You could post on the Dell Laptop forum and one of the experts there may be able to help.

Hi there,
I have a Inspiron 7520 which is quite old now. It worked well for years, but a couple of weeks ago started making a loud whirring noise. From reading other forum posts about this model, I am pretty sure it was from the fan (laptop has always been pretty hot). The noise would start whenever the laptop had to do more processor-heavy tasks, like play video or games, or run multiple applications.
I should have done more about it, but all I did was try and blow out the vents, which helped a bit. Anyway, the noise stopped this week, but now the laptop just turns off without warning. It turns off at around the same time the fan would have become loud - ie. when it was having to do more than just browse the 'net (which I can do for hours without an issue - it just dies if i try to play a game, etc).
From reading other forums and some googling, my guess is the fan might have stopped working altogether, and now the laptop just turns off when the fan would have kicked in.
Can anyone confirm if my analysis might be right? And if so, would replacing the fan solve the problem, or is the damage more serious / widespread now?
Thanks, Tom.

Hey, was hoping someone could help me out here. My wireless card abruptly started behaving abnormally; it's showing that no connections are available when they obviously are. I went in and manually set up my connection- and lo and behold, it connected, yet still shows no networks available (both mine and all the neighbours' networks too.
Details: I'm running Windows 8.1 (the 10 upgrade failed because of my dual graphics card, which was apparently a widespread issue for us 7520 owners) with a Centrino Wireless-N 2230 network card. Troubleshooting steps I've tried included updating the drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling Intel PROSet/Wireless Tools (not that the program actually works for me), lots of reboots, disabling and re-enabling the wireless adaptor many times, and making sure Windows Update is current, I did a chkdsk /f as well.
So it's obviously working right now on a manual set-up, but that's going to be a problem for bringing my laptopto work and elsewhere. Was wondering if anyone else had other ideas.

Have an Inspiron 7520 fro 5-6 years which worked perfectly until recent Windows update to Windows 10. Since then, every time I power up the laptop, I get a message stating that the 'battery is not recognised' and can only use the laptop if I have AC power connected. If pressing F2 to do diagnostics, the battery is displayed as not being recognised - non Dell
The battery is the one that came as new with the laptop and is most definitely a Dell battery for the Dell 7520.
How can I get rid of this erroneous error and/or test the battery??
Many thanks

Hello,I have Dell inspiron 15R 7520 with the following specifications:
* HDD : Seagate Barracuda 2TB 6Gb/s* SSD : Samsung mSATA 32GB SSD* OS   : Windows 10 Enterpriise x64 Creator UpdateMy problem is that when i install a fresh copy of windows 8.1 or 10, i stuck in configuring my SSD drive to work as a cash drive via Intel Rapid Storage Technology software.
Every time i configure my BIOS - SATA operation : Intel Smart Response Technology and begin to boot to Windows 10 my laptop freezes at the one of the most famous BSOD :

But if i configured my BIOS - SATA operation : AHCI. My laptop boots successfully in normal mode (No Intel Rapid Storage Technology configuration)
Another problem, when i deal with Intel Rapid Storage Technology GUI then tab to (Performance) i found no SSD drive to configure like that :
So what problem i am involved in? to restore my laptop working with Intel Rapid Storage Technology enabled.

Thanks for any effort.

A:Dell inspiron 15R 7520 SSD configuration issue

When you set up a system to use the 32 GB drive as an acceleration drive, you need the SATA controller set to RAID.  Once that is done you can install the OS to the HDD and set up the acceleration drive later.
If the 32 GB drive had been used before it may need to be cleaned.

I noticed that my laptop has a 32gb mSata SSD working as cache for the 1TB HDD. however I am planning to drop that 1TB HDD into the DVD-Rom tray and slap in a 128GB SSD...  now the problem comes down to the mSata SSD.
the mSata ssd shows up as 'LITEONIT LMT-32', its also show as SATA_array_0001 under Intel Rapid Storage Technology, with 8gb Data Volume and 22gb Cache volume.
base on this website, to remove that mSata SSD seems like a pain in the ass that require a complete strip down.

now I am just wonder, what IF I leave that mSata SSD in there, will it try to act as cache for my SSD which is already way faster than it or will the system be smart enough to cache my HDD. Will I gain ANY performance gain/lost by leaving the mSata SSD in? if not, is there any way to disable it?

A:Do I need to remove mSata SSD on Inspiron 15R-SE (7520) when upgrading SSD ?

Hello again,
So the install went very easy. I made sure that the 32gb msata, was disabled before I installed the new 240gb SSD.
After you disable Acceleration---MAKE SURE YOU ALSO RESET TO AVAILABLE---Real important...Make sure the msata drive is empty, no partition.
I removed the 1tb drive, after I deleted the partition....do not reformat...than I placed it in a caddy and replaced the BD drive...
Leave Intel rapid storage enabled in Bios
I installed the SSD, and put the OEM Dell Windows 7 USB in and away I went...Because the other 2 drives did not have any partitions, Windows left System reserve on the SSD<<<real important, encase you need to remove the msata or storage drive later>>>Windows will throw System reserve on any other disk installed that has partitions, during installation(reason msata and 1tb drive are not formatted)
Once Windows 7 was done and installed, I download the Intel Rapid Storage driver from Dell....and went into administrative options...I formatted the 1tb drive, and only initialized the msata"no format"
Went back into Intel Rapid Storage and there it was, enable acceleration. So I only used 22gb for the acceleration, on the 1tb storage drive"older drive"..leaving me 8gb left over....Went back into Administrative options...and I formatted the 8gbs(NTFS)...I than used the 8gb for my paging file, freeing up the 8gb from the operating system"s ssd.-Great Idea, using a separate drive for the paging file!!!
