Can receive but can't send emails on Mozilla Thunderbird

Q: Can receive but can't send emails on Mozilla Thunderbird

I am using Mozilla Thunderbird version 52.5.0 (W10 32bit) for my emails.

I can receive but not send emails. My wife is also using same programme for emails and hers is working fine for send/receive. Because my Bigpond Webmail can send/receive Bigpond Tech support are saying the problem is to do with Mozilla (i.e. which they don't support).
Message I get is "Login to server mail.bigpond.com failed." It then asks me to Retry or Enter New Password etc.

I have checked (as best I can) the settings and all appears to be ok.

Any help would be appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,

I had Outlook Express,I recently downloaded Thunderbird. But now I'm not able to send or receive email. When I try to send a message to myself I get an error message that reads: " Enter your password for (my username) on smtp. sbcglobal.yahoo.com. I enter every password I can think of but that same error message just comes back. I don't see any place to even put a password when I go into Account Settings or Options?

Also, I now have 4 Inboxes and 4 of everything else. I only want 1 of each how do I get rid of the rest?

Hi folks,

I can receive Email but when I try to send it I am asked for my password which I put in but then it is requested again and again in an endless loop with pauses in between each request while it goes and does something.

I use the same password to log in at the start of the session and log in okay.

I am trying to set up Thunderbird version

I am using Firefox Version

The op sys is XP Pro with SP2

I have no Anti Virus running

I have added Thunderbird to the Exceptions in XPs' Firewall

I have deleted everything that has to do with Norton Anti Virus (nothing in the reg)

I have removed the program, went back to an earlier Restore point and reinstalled it with no luck.

The ISP is DSL Extreme and I have gone through the settings with 3 techs who say everything is set correctly.

If I should be using another forum please let me know.

Any help will really be appreciated. :)

yesterday it was recommended to me to change over from OutExpress (sorry if I have name wrong. It is the email that is with IE) to Firefoxe's Thunderbird (My browser is Firefox)

So I installed Thunderbird 2, and thought I was doing the right thing. I was asked to type in a password (something I didn't seed to do for Outexpress), so I did. And my emails got transferred. BUT then I noticed that I have not now--for hours (which is very unusual) received ANy email. I even emailed Tom--who had recommened me change to T-Bird --to send me an email to know all's alright, and there is nothing, so I know something is up

Now I thought maybe I should click "get mail" and then I get: This folder is being processed. Please wait until processing is complete to get messages.

Then I get: Please enter a new password for user [my email]

when I do that, and submit i get an Alert pop-up saying: Sending the password did not suceed. Mail server pop.ntlworld.com responded: invalid user name or password

I don't know what to do, and am expecting important emails!

Hi I am having trouble sending emails, they end up sitting in my outbox with the following error message.

The connection to the server has failed.
Subject 'help'
Server: 'mail.bigpond.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0E
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 25
Secure(SSL): No
Socket Error: 10013

I have updated windows and repaired the program. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program, I have contact Telstra (my service provided) and Microsoft to no avail and now I am at a loss as to what to do next. I am no computer whiz ..... just trying to get my email to work. Does anyone have any idea as to what I can do next? Many thanks

A:Can receive emails but cannot send

Welcome to Seven Forums leeannes. What antivirus/security suite do you use? Often this is an issue with security programs and you can test by temporarily disabling your antivirus.

Also, the Telstr mail help page says the outgoing port should be SSL and port 587

Outgoing Server Settings:
SMTP Server: mail.bigpond.com
Security: This server requires a secure connection (TLS or SSL Encryption depending on the mail client you're using)
If you are currently using Outlook, Mac Mail, iPhones, Windows Phones, Android's please use TLS.
Port: Default SSL Port 587

Accessing email on holiday

Have a look at the answer on this thread. It also mentions port 587. If unsure, ask Telstra whether the port should be 587. I often see where mail servers used to use port 25 (no SSL), and now use 587.

I can't receive or send emails in my outlook.com account

this happened after i received a message from the outlook support team saying that my account space was getting full and that if I did not click on a prompt to go through a confirmation process, i would not be able to receive future emails.... funnily this took me to some strange blocked screen page that WARNED about the dangers of continuing. I have since tried with all help but to no avail. Could someone kindly help.

I have a really strange problem, it seems that I cant send some emails or that I cannot receive some of the emails being sent to me and its always seems to be those critical emails.

I have tested multiple email-services (Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail) but the same
situation occurs:

1. I email a client and ask a question
2. I get usually a pretty fast reply back
3. At this stage I often either provide the client with a link or smaller attachment
4. No response from the client
5. I try to email the client back, sometimes, multiple times
6. No reply, its dead.

This above scenario have happend some 8 times now.

Ok some of you might say "well they just dont answer of various reasons, just let go", well I have also thought this but the procedure is always the same, its too systemized to be just of mere chance. Everytime I try to contact a new client I think that: "this time it will work, this time I will get a response and the emails will get through"...but I have ended up in this position where I dont hear from the client on more or less every occassion now, raising my suspicion that his cannot just be a coincidence anymore.

Last week on thursday I contacted a client on the phone (for another reason) and he said that he was going to send an email to me, but I havent got any yet, which might give us some information that emails doesnt get through to me.

I have reinstalled my OS 2 times, I have checked with anti-virus program etc but no solution. I sit on wireless... Read more

I manage five computers three are mine and two are my daughters.

All these have been working fine for years, but on two of them after an Avast upgrade from version 2015.10.2 to 2016.11.1 emails have stopped going out or coming in. I have uninstalled Avast and still does not work.
On the Windows 7 Ultimate computer I even did a repair install. Everything went OK but the email still does not work.

The funny thing is that on this same computer that has a dual boot for Windows XP and Windows 7 Ultimate
Windows XP has still the Avast 2015.10.2 installed and everything is working fine.
Windows 7 Ultimate with Avast removed doesn't work. When I say doesn't work, I mean every kind of email client like Eudora, and any program that uses email notifications like Acronis, even a very simple Perl script that I have used for years, nothing.

The exact same thing is happening on one of my daughter's computer. This problem is only on two computers the rest are still working fine.
I tried to solve this problem with Avast but they did not help much.

I believe that Avast changed something in the registry that is causing this and that even after uninstalling something must be left there to block the emails.

I hope you will be able to help, otherwise I will have to do a fresh install, but that is a lot of work.
Thank you.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to view this post, i just hope someone can help.

I have recently had to reinstall my Op system (WinXP) and i have now noticed that i cant send emails via Thunderbird , but i can still receive

I think i have setup Thunderbird correctly, i followed the instructions found on the Yahoo, Options, Pop3 Forwarding config webpage. Whenever i try to send a email i get the following error message from Thunderbird

Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent because connecting to the SMTP server smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your SMTP server setting is correct and try again.

It looks like to me that the SMTP setting is incorrect but i've triple checked it. A friend of mine is also having the same problem on the same setup as me so it leads me to believe that its something to so with yahoo.co.uk mail accounts.

Any advice will be much appreciated - please let me know if you need any other details.

Starting a few weeks ago emails sent on my Windows 7 laptop using Windows Live Mail would receive emails, but outgoing ones were not sent. Everything was working fine up until then. Emails were in the "Sent Items" folder for WLM , but did not make it to the ISP mail server. I have spoken to my ISP, Road Runner, multiple times along with Microsoft support going to second and third level support. I can send and receive using going directly to the Road Runner Webmail server. The problem occurs on multiple machines and also when running Outlook and Thunderbird. Neither Road Runner or Microsoft admit that it is their problem. I am using 25 for my outgoing Port and have tried 587. Neither work. I will also mention that when I add my Gmail account to Windows Live Mail and send from that account it works fine for sending and receiving. I know an obvious answer would be to switch all my email to the Gmail account, but I would like to solve this problem first.

Hi people. I cannot receive or send emails on Vista Windows Mail.

This infuriating situation occurred exactly one month after receiving the new computer with Vista Home Premium already installed.

My old computer is connected as a small network.

When the problem initially occurred on 7th June it said "Receiving 1 of 8" but never did and after a while (1/2 to 1 hr?) I logged off and logged on again but to no avail. I thought maybe a big photo or something was coming in but nothing eventuated. I accessed my email via Optus Web Mail and saw that there was nothing there bigger than 493KB.

The main error message I receive is -

Account: 'mail.optusnet.com.au', Server: 'mail.optusnet.com.au', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19

I have telephoned Optus (Australia) 5 times but they insist it is a Windows Mail corruption problem. No one was able to tell me what this error message actually means.

Another issue that may also be connected was when I downloaded a trial version of a home video editing programme. It cut the 30 day trial by about 8 days, finishing on June 1st. June the first I thought? Why June 1st? I asked on the forum but they could not explain why.

Does anyone have any ideas on this Windows Mail crash please?

I posted a topic a couple of days ago re this problem. I thought it was solved, but I was only able to access my emails once, then the next day the problem was back.

A time-out occurred while communicating with the server. Account: 'pop.onetel.net', Server: 'smtp.onetel.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19

Last time I found the file pop3uidl and deleted it. This worked and I was able to access my emails on one occasion. Then, the problem was back.

I'm totally confused as to what to do next. I've tried lengthening the downloading time and turning off the email scanning.

I've accessed my emails via the web and there are no large emails there.

Any ideas please?

A:[SOLVED] Mozilla Thunderbird Emails Have Disappeared

Hi, Ifarrell.

I'm confused, please explain the situation in depth. You're saying you "reinstalled" XP, yet you're Thunderbird folder in Programs is still there? That's not possible. When you reinstall an OS, it completely deletes/formats the HDD making it near impossible to have anything left.

So, with that in mind - of course you're emails are gone. They're saved in your Thunderbird directory, I believe. So, when you format, you're HDD gets wiped, you're emails get lost.

Always remember to backup your computer! I lost over 100GBs of very important data before by NOT backing up. Be careful!

Good Luck.

A:Mozilla Thunderbird, lost emails and addresses??

I'm not at home, so you get short version for now:
user appdata local thunderbird
user appdata roaming thunderbird
-- those are the "storage bins" for everything you've configured, set up, received, sent, etc. via thunderbird
While not having tbird active, you can copy both directories, local to local, roaming to roaming, then fire up tbird again.
I've done this for years [for tbird, emC, FF, GC & IE], so if more help's needed, I'll watch this thread

My company just switched to at&t dsl. I have always used Mozilla Thunderbird without a problem. When I try this is the message I receive....The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server smtp.charter.net failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your SMTP server setting is correct and try again, or else contact your network administrator. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

A:ThunderBird will not send emails

Did the POP and SMTP server names remain the same with the changeover? I would expect that smtp.charter.net might have been the prior ISP? Many ISPs do not allow use of their SMTP servers without validation to prevent them from being used as SPAM vehicals. You will either need to validate to charter or use the AT&T outgoing (SMTP) server. If that is the AT&T SMTP server, try using port 587 rather than port 25.

Your company's IT folks should be able to assist you.

In Outlook 2003, I can't send or receive emails. I keep getting error message 0x8004210b - re operation timed out waiting for a response from the recieving (POP) server. I have contacted my ISP who has checked out my email settings (which by the way work on my laptop). The ISP technician suggested I reinstall MS Outlook which I have done. Microsoft suggests that I might have a clash with my email anti-virus program (which is Trend Micro P-Cillin Internet security 2007). Outlook runs and opens, the calendar updates but the emails just stopped sending and receiving at the end of April. In desperation I set up an account in Outlook Express with the same settings and it worked. I am connected to the internet via an adsl router modem. There are two other computers on the router all receiving and sending emails. I still think its a block somewhere from P-Cillin but can't prove it. My subscription is ending in the next few weeks for P-Cillin internet security so I thought I might not renew and take it off the computer. But remembering the problem I had with removing Nortons on another computer last year I also would like advice before I try to remove P-Cillin Internet Security. Any suggestions to get the emails going again would be welcome or help in removal of P-Cillin.

All setting in Outlook are correct. I must emphazise that.

Here is the error message I receive when trying to send:

Account: 'pehogset', Server: 'smtp.online.no', Protocoll: SMTP, Port: 25, Sikker (SSL): No, contakt error: 10060, Error code: 0x800CCC0E

I am so frustrated about this, and hope that somebody can be of help.

Thanks a lot.

A:I can receive but not send emails with Outlook Express

it is most likely a configuration problem. look to see if the ingoing and outgoing server is the same, eg, pop.online.no and smtp.online.no. server means the name of your internet provider. aol, ntlworl, tiscali etc. incoming port 110, out port 25.
make sure that you have not inserted a space or a comma in error within the names of server

this started recently, I changed my password on my server hoping to fix this issue, and in Outlook and iPhones and iPads. Every thing works fine except desktop. I have sent an email from outlook.com and it receives just fine. The send and receive box runs through al the checks with no errors.
I can send from a Gmail address but not my regular yahoo account. I have checked everything I can think of but to no avail.
I started getting asked for a password every time I sent out an email, checked remember and then OK and everything would continue, but now I just get email stuck in the outbox.

I have 3 computers in my home office. 2 of them are running Vista with Outlook 2007. The other one is running XP with Outlook 2003. Everything was working fine on all the computers until a week ago. Without any changes, the 2 computers running Outlook 2007 would not send e-mails.

We are using godaddy for our incoming e-mails and comcast for our outgoing e-mails. All the settings are the same on all 3 computers (servers, ports, etc.) The computer using Outlook 2003 can receive and send e-mails. The 2 computers using Outlook 2007 are not sending emails correctly. When you send an email on these 2 computers, the e-mail will go into the sent folder (The e-mail is not getting hung up in the outbox). That is what is really driving me crazy. I am getting no error messages. One of the things that is really intriguing is that when someone e-mails, you can reply and the reply will reach the receipient about 1/2 the time. It basically depends who the e-mail is sent from.

The computer that is using Outlook 2003 works perfectly fine. Same exact settings as the computers using Outlook 2007. I have tried to call godaddy, Comcast and everybody always blames the other. I'm beginning to think it is a problem with Outlook 2007. Any help would be much appreciated.

I don't know how this happened.  Last night I was looking at all my mail and I guess I clicked something because all at once all my emails disappeared from the Inbox.  I still have everything in the sent folder but nothing in my inbox.  I tried emailing myself but no luck.  It shows up ion the Sent folder. That's it.
Can you help me, please?  I have a Toshiba laptop, if that means anything.
Mod Edit:  Removed email addy...which, according to you doesn't work...as protection from spambots - Hamluis.

I've been using Outlook 2010 for a couple of years with multiple Gmail accounts without any problems until today.

One of my Gmail accounts can receive emails but cannot send. When testing the account settings the attached error message appears.

Haven't made any changes to the account setting to date.

looks like quite a number of gmail users are facing this issue. Might need to wait for an answer from google.

Hi guys
The title for this topic isn't quite correct.
I can send emails on all my email addresses. But as of March 25/2016 I haven't been able to receive emails on my main email address. Except for one email over and over again, but its send date is stuck at March 25/2016.
I can read the emails I'm not receiving, by going to my ISP website. However, as of yesterday I have re-directed those emails to come to me via another of my emails. Both come to my PC with Thunderbird.
The only email I am receiving on my main email address, is in itself neither spam or bogus. In fact it is, or at least it started out being sent from a credible and responsible source. They are a reputable online petition company, one that I have been signed up with for some years.
My thinking is that this is a fault or glitch in Thunderbird. I could uninstall that particular email address, then re-install it. But my concern is, would I lose all my other data and drafts and then not regain then after the re-install. Bit worrying.
