Thinkpad X1 Yoga (3rd gen) Fingerprint not working

Q: Thinkpad X1 Yoga (3rd gen) Fingerprint not working

I have a Thinkpad X1 Yoga (3rd Gen). The fingerprint sensor is not working and I don't have the option to sign in with my fingerprint. I bought the laptop around a year ago and the fingerprint sensor worked fine for the first few months, but stopped working recently. Here are the symptoms:When setting up sign-in options, there is no fingerpring option in Windows HelloIn the device manager, there is no entry for "biometric sensor" or anything similarIn the bios, when I selected "reset fingerprint data", I get the response "no fingerprint reader is attached"I have tried a full re-install of Windows 10 and it did not change anything. Is anyone else having similar issues? Is this something I can fix through software or would I have to send it in for servicing? Thank!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You're not alone, and unfortunately it's been identified as a hardware issue. The BIOS message that you got is actually being used as a confirmation that the problem is hardware, not software. See this thread.

Hi all, I have a Thinkpad  X1 Yoga 3rd Gen. WIndows Hello works fine with the camera, but I do not see any settings in the Windows Hello Settings app for configuring the Fingerprint reader. The device has a fingerprint reader. I am sure the fngerprint reader worked fine when I purchased the device. I performed a full device reset as I was having issues with battery performance (now cured), but the fingerprint option is still not available. Any thoughts?

Hallo all,I have a brand new Thinkpad L380 Yoga, and strangely the Fingerprint scanner did not work after waking up from sleep mode. I have tried to uninstall the fingerprint driver, try to update it from Lenovo Vantage, and i come to no avail.Strangely, it also doesn;t work in the Windows Hello dialog, where you have to input a new fingerprint (This also happens after waking up from sleep mode though) Please help me. THis is not a deal breaker, but annoys me; n/b: The fingerprint is listed in device manager as synaptics-sgx

I've been having trouble with the fingerprint sensor on my Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga laptop (type 20FR) for the last week. It is now completely unresponsive after working just fine for months. In device manager it says "This device cannot start (Code 10)." I've tried disabling/enabling the device form device manager, uninstalling/re-installing the drivers, and wiping stored fingerprints from the BIOS settings. After wiping the fingerprints from BIOS settings and re-programming the fingerprint sensor from the Windows Hello settings menu, it worked for a day, but then the issue with the finger print sensor crashing returned. What do I do?

The fingerprint scan function stopped working yesterday for my computer. I googled for a solution and I found one I tried to follow it. One of the steps was to update the bios and I did and it worked for one hour or so and then stopped working again. I couldn't do the other steps at all since I don't have anything software called Lenovo fingerprint manager pro on my computer and I can't find it anywhere online for Windows 10 either. Does anyone else has the same problem as me?

Hey guys and gals, The sensor had been hit or miss from day one, when it worked it would sometimes take 3 presses before registering correctly. I've been using these kinds of sensors for years on my phones so I was suprised at how much effort it took to get it to work. It often wasn't avaliable to me when the laptop came out of sleep mode, or if the screen had been locked.  One day last month it stopped working completely. It isn't being detected at all in the device manager, unless it's under a differnt name now. I tried restoring from factory and seeing if I could get it back. After running all the Windows, driver, and firmware updates, it's still not present in the device manager. I went in the BIOS and checked to see that the fingerprint sensor was enabled. It was, and then I tried to delete any fingerprint data, but there wasn't any. So I'm wondering, has anyone else has had a similar issue and if there's a way I can fix this without having to RMA my otherwise kickass laptop?  Maybe the senseor is loose? Should I open her up and make sure everything's tight? I haven't unbuckled any of her fasteners yet, but if it could save me a month of being computerless while she's in the shop, I'll gladly try it.   Cheers

Hi! I have recently purchased a Thinkpad L480 and the fingerprint reader only worked very breefly after setup. Now, whenever I try to setup my fingerprint in windows hello the device seems as it would recognize a fingerprint without a finger on the reader (reader is clean). The fingerprint setup assistant shows a short flashing of the fingerprint icon as it would recognize a finger and then continues with only painting the innermost line of the fingerprint red and stops to detect any input. As mentioned breefly after windows setup the fingerpringt scanner worked. After a relog the scanner stopped working. I tried deleting and setting up a new fingerprint, when the problem first occured. All drivers are up to date. The latest windows version is used. Thanks in advance!

The FP reader does not work on my T450s under Windows 10, even though the drivers "Synaptics FP Sensors (WBF) (PID=0017)" are installed correctly.I can get into the Windows Hello Fingerprint Setup (snapshot below) but the FP reader doesn't do a thing.Following the steps suggested in Fingerprint-support-on-Windows-10-ThinkPad-T440-and-newer does not change anything. The notebook is brandnew and I didn't have Win 7 or 8 on it before for testing the FP reader, but the driver installed without any issues -- so I guess it's not a hardware problem. I'm happy for any suggestion.

The fingerprint sensor seems to have disappeared off my Thinkpad P51. I've tried to update drivers but when going into the device manager, there is not even a section for biometric devices where the fingerprint sensor would normally be. I checked under all other subcategories and none had anything that looked like a fingerprint sensor. Going into windows settings, under fingerprint sensor the message "We couldn't find a fingerprint scanner compatible with windows hello fingerprint" appears. I then checked BIOS and under fingerprint security settings, BIOS also does not see any fingerprint hardware installed on the device. Any suggestions? There has been no physical damage to the computer and no other indication as to why the hardware would stop working. Since it last worked, the light above the fingerprint scanner has not come on once either.

Is it a driver incompatability with updated windows 10?Is there an updated driver somewhere please? Thanks in advance

The fingerprint reader on my ThinkPad L380 suddendly stopped working. I tryed resetting the saved prints in Windows Hello but when trying to register them again the procedure stops at the second step: for the first step of the registration when I touch the sensor it is recognised, but for the second step when I touch it nothing happens. The driver is updated and the system does not register any problem. Is it possible that the fingerprint reader is physically broken?

A:Fingerprint reader stopped working (ThinkPad L380)

The circuitry might have failed.  I would first try to reset everything:

1) Turn off fingerprint option in windows hello
2) Boot into BIOS and erase fingerprints (under security menu)
3) Uninstall the fingerprint reader under the device manager
4)  Reboot and let it find new hardware

You would then need to re-register the fingerprints

If that doesn't work, I would assume a hardware problem

Maybe windows blocked the driver or something i don't know. I've deinstalled the fingerprint software AND the driver in device manager. reboot, and installed all again. nothing.. how can this be?

Not sure if there is an official solution but heres my issue: After upgrading to Windows 1803, my fingerprint reader just stopped working with Windows Hello. Tried troubleshooting with drivers and eventually did a hard reset which did address the issue...only temporarily. I already looked into other forum post regarding deleting and reinstalling the fingerprint drivers as well as the Intel SGX drivers as well but those didn't seem to solve the issue. Any insight on the issue would be great!

Ever since I updated to Windows 10 1809, my fingerprint reader has not been consistently working on the lock screen. Sometimes it would turn on and scan, while other times it wouldn't work at all. Randomly the sensor just stopped working and in the sign-in options, fingerprint isn't even an option. Windows hello says it is not available on this device. The biometrics was hidden in device manager and I uninstalled it. Downloaded the drivers from the lenovo support site and restarted, which did not work. Now the biometrics isn't even showing in the device manager. Any suggestions? My experience with Lenovo has been a mixed-bag...by far the best thinkpad I've owned and it was working great until it randomly starts dropping wifi connections and now the fingerprint reader. I don't understand how things just stop working all of a sudden. I make sure to keep the system updated - are there bad updates out there?

My fingerprint login stopped working about 2 weeks before the pin number login stopped working.  Now I can only log on with password.  I read to uninstall the fingerprint driver, but then couldn't find it under programs.  So then I tried to reconfigure fingerprint, it seemed to go through the process and accept it.  Then it asked to set up a pin number. When I tried to do that, it required my password to verify. Then nothing happens.  I did this several times, even restarting, but nothing works.

so i've had this laptop since fall 2018. the fingerprint scanner stopped working around december 2018 and then just now my pen stopped working. pen: if i restart my laptop, itll work for a few seconds and then if i touch the screen with my finger, it completely stops. the battery is at 100%. i tried looking in the device manager to try and restart it but there's no sign of the pen driver, just something that says hid compliant pen and lenovo pen device. i tried updating the drivers for those, didn't work. fingerprint scanner: just stopped working one day, tried doing everything to get it to work again. went into device manager, biometric devices and there was absolutely nothing about fingerprints. if i go into sign in options, it says windows hello is preventing some options from being shown. tried to remove my pin, no option for that.priorities are the pen because i specifically bought this laptop for that so it not working is kind of a big problem.

Hello Lenovo team, I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 370 (20JH0023US) less than a year old, since we set it up out of the box, we have been unable to get the fingerprint reader to function. In Device Manager, it shows the device cannot start (Code 10). We have uninstalled, reinstalled with the latest drivers, performed a BIOS update. When we try to clear the Fingerprint data in the BIOS, it sits as "Resetting Fingerprint Data" and gets no further. We have also replaced the Fingerprint reader itself (under warranty) on the keyboard bezel and it is still not working. Can anyone assist in helping us get this working? Is it possible it's a bad factory image of Windows and maybe we should do a reset? Thanks in advance!

Hello,Today I updated my Thinkpad X1 Carbon 5th Gen with the latest drivers recommended by Lenovo Vantage program, as well as the latest Windows 10 Pro updates. After conducting those updates, I can no longer sign in using the Fingerprint sensor. When I open the Device Manager to check the status of the Biometric Device driver, it shows the following message: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. It looks like a lot of people have been experiencing this issue and no one from Lenovo provided a clear and definitive solution. The latest drivers must have bugs and, in my opinion, Lenovo must stop distributing them until this issue is fixed. Thank you very much.Best.

Hi!I use a Lenovo Yoga 720 15-inch which supports Windows Hello.  In the beginning of January the fingerprint reader stopped working for some reason. Device manager showed Driver error, which after a few log ins changed to Error 45. Then, in Device Manager, the biometric scanner fell of the visible and hidden devices lists altoghether. Since I was doing a heavy amount of work on a tight schedule I decided not to deal with such a incovninience back then. Today, I did a complete PC reinstall due to some performance issues after the April update. Unfortunately, that didn't fix the problem with the fingerprint reader, as Windows Hello still shows up as unavailable. The Biometric category in Device manager is nowhere to be found. My PC is up-to-date both in terms of Windows updates and Lenovo Driver updates. The device is still in warranty. Current Os & Build: Windows 10 Home, ver. 1803, build 17134.112 Local Lenovo Support didn't do much work, unfortunately. Also, I wasn't able to find an appropriate solution in other threads. Could anyone help me out with this issue? All ideas and advice are welcome. Thanks!

A:Yoga 720 - Fingerprint scanner & Windows Hello not working (showing up)

I don't have a 720, so I don't know if biometrics is a setting in the BIOS or not. First thing to do is update all the drivers and the BIOS using Lenovo Vantage. Once you're sure all that's up to date, then boot into the BIOS and look for a biometrics setting.

If it's not there, then you might want to open up the computer and reseat the ribbon cable that connects the sensor to the motherboard. If it's still under warranty, let Lenovo do it. Since there's no biometrics device listed in Windows, windows isn't seeing it for some reason.
